(CNN) – In what is a marked departure from his presidential campaign strategy to date, Mitt Romney has yet to purchase television airtime in any of the Super Tuesday states, a Romney aide confirms to CNN.

The move is surprising given the former Massachusetts governor has far outspent his rivals on ad spending in all the early-contests so far.

But the aide tells CNN that the Romney campaign has not categorically ruled out buying some TV ad time in the remaining 5 days leading up to Super Tuesday.

anybody that considers everyone an enemy scares the Hell out of me. I wonder how many wars McCain will start?

jim   January 31st, 2008 3:33 pm ET

Hell, anybody to the left of Bush / Cheney and Co. is a bleeding liberal, even the so called " moderate" Republicans. I don`t think anyone really had a clue 8 years ago as to just how truly "radical" our elected leaders would become.

Marcus, Great Lakes, IL   January 31st, 2008 2:42 pm ET

Hey Mitt,

I know how you can address a majority of people at the same time. Air one during the Super Bowl. You have enough money.

maureen   January 31st, 2008 1:55 pm ET

Please, please, please...give equal time to ALL the canidates! Allow the American people to choose their canidate, stop manipulating the vote!
Surely, Anderson could have stepped in to stop the control by the two child-like canidates, who intentionally controlled the time.
I'm seriously considering not watching any more CNN coverage.

I love reading all about the love fest that democrats have with McCain.

I wonder why they like McCain so much – could it be that they like his ideals?

Doug   January 31st, 2008 1:27 pm ET

If McCain wins over Romney, it will lead to the biggest landslide victory for the Democrats in history. The people who are liberal say they like McCain. THEY WILL VOTE FOR THE DEMOCRATS in the general.

Tom Wittmann   January 31st, 2008 1:00 pm ET

Yes ! Romney is qualified, for secretary of Treasury or Commerce !!

Also he looks better than McCain and clearly is a better debatter. McCain
would be better advised let him rant and take the high road, he do not need to
descend to such level

By the way: Romney is doeing a good service to the GOP by painting McCain as
liberal leaning and with friends at the Dems !! This will attract far more independents and democratic voters in the election, as the relatively few votes
lost by sitting out of some irrational ultra rightist, as simple arithmetics show
(BILL SCHNEIDER, pls. provide the missing figures!)

* Conservatives are about 30% of the registered GOP voters
* of these, about 30% voted for McCain in the Florida primaries
* of the remaining, only a minority is "ultra" and possibly willing to sit out the
elections if McCain is the candidate
* in turn, the registered voters are only a fraction of the total regular GOP voters.

Therefore, McCain should do mirrorwise what Tony Blair in the UK did to the
Ultraleft, whose influence was destroying the Labor Party:

" If you do not like what I represent, go elsewhere or do whatever you want to do!"

And let establish a fact: Ronals Reagan was Conservative, but by far not a Ultra !
Rush Limbaugh & Co. are a far cry away from this rational, compasionate and good man !

ANTI CLINTONS   January 31st, 2008 12:37 pm ET

Oh by the way, Romney has bought national air time, so don't count him out like the media tells you he is out, McCain got his butt kicked all over the podium in the debates, go Romney!

matt   January 31st, 2008 12:20 pm ET

Mitt is the only real answer for this country. He has a proven track record and will not the this congress to over run the people. He is honest and owes no favors to the lobbyist who are currently running the things in Washington. The American public needs to wake up and vote for Mitt before this country has to file for Chapter 11 and we are all speaking Mandrine. Go Mitt !!!!

lowland   January 31st, 2008 12:07 pm ET

Linda,

the majority of the presidents job description is foreign policy. He is not supposed to be running everything...that is why we have congress. better to have a president who understand more of the job then one that understand the small pieces of what he may have a role in if congress lets him. McCain is by far better then Romney, though both kinda suck!

notevenfordogcatcher   January 31st, 2008 12:02 pm ET

Yeah Tom, McCain is "dangerouos" and it is a "loosing" cause for Romney.

You must be a Clinton supporter.

I would rather have someone spend some of their own EARNED money than to have someone spend millions GIVEN to them by lobbyists.

Unlike Hillarity who is owned by lobbyists, but they are people too.

Virgnia   January 31st, 2008 11:53 am ET

Romney is sickening to me because he is literally trying to BUY the US Presidency. Every vote he gets winds up costing about $500 in propaganda and GOP BS.

No surprise   January 31st, 2008 11:53 am ET

He is a good business man, the higher the risk of a return on the investment, the less likely he will be to invest.

Tony   January 31st, 2008 11:35 am ET

McCain was asked twice last night for a "yes" or "no" answer but he refused to answer; the question; if your Immigration bill came up again, would you sign it? Avoiding a "yes" or "no" answer, can only mean "yes" to me. I do not trust him. He will do what he pleases if elected and not the will of the people. I think he will pull a "Bloomberg"; get elected as a Republican and then change to Independent and that is what he really is anyway.

Tom Wittmann   January 31st, 2008 11:08 am ET

I seem to see that between the bloggers there is a coordinated effort to paint McCain as "crazy" and dangerouos. I do not think that this is organized by Romney,
So from where this is coming ?

As for the lack of advertising by Romney in the Super-Tuesday states: I have already written in other comments that this very wealthy candidate is funding
his campaign in a large proportion with his own money. But of course, as Shawn
stated correctly, it is not the same to buy TV ads in a single state (much less in
low population ones) than nationwide.

Therefore it could be that he is running out of money and/or he is not willing to
invest all his money in a loosing cause.

Is is possible Romeny is down to his last five billion dollars and doesn't want to buy any more delegates?

We cannot afford Jon McCain!

Then do the smart thing – VOTE DEMOCRATIC!!!!!

David, Gilbert Arizona   January 31st, 2008 10:33 am ET

I haven't seen any ads from any of the republican candidates in my state. The only ads I have seen are from Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama.

Linda   January 31st, 2008 10:19 am ET

John McCain, is not qualified to be President of the United States, The person who has this job should have the credentials to be able to manage the economy , job growth, and immgration as well as Froiegn affairs. You cannot hire Managers that you do not have the credentials to understand what they are proposing on the economy. This man is nothing but a war monger and needs to take a reterimentfrom public office. This country cannot afford more conflicts and war we are going bankrupt with Presidents and congressmen who do not understand business or money. We cannot afford Jon McCain!

Shawn   January 31st, 2008 10:02 am ET

Nice twist on reality. He is buying national time, not local time.

Wayne, Greenville TX   January 31st, 2008 10:01 am ET

Does this mean that the Mittster's days as a candidate are numbered???

I-hope-I-hope-I-hope........
