NEW YORK (AP) — Advisers to Democrat Hillary Rodham Clinton Friday complained vehemently about an Obama campaign mailer that criticizes Clinton's health plan, with one adviser likening the mailer to "Nazis marching through Skokie, Illinois."

Clinton communications director Howard Wolfson disavowed the analogy leveled by Len Nichols, a health policy expert at the New America Foundation who has consulted with Clinton and other candidates on their proposals.

But the remark still reflected the emotional dispute over how best to achieve universal health care, a key concern of many Democratic primary voters.

The Obama mailer, which the Clinton campaign traced to mailboxes in North Dakota and Alaska, shows a young couple sitting at a table, appearing to puzzle over a stack of bills.

"Hillary's plan forces everyone to buy insurance, even if you can't afford it," the headline reads.

On a conference call with reporters, Clinton advisers complained the image and the message closely resembled the $100 million "Harry and Louise" TV ad campaign waged by the insurance industry in 1994 to kill the former first lady's effort to reshape the health care system. In those ads, a middle class couple sat at a table worrying about the Clinton plan's complexities and wondering if they might lose the right to choose their own doctors.

Clinton campaign policy director Neera Tanden said the mailer falsely suggests that the New York senator's plan wouldn't bring down costs. She noted that Clinton would offer tax subsidies to help pay for insurance and would seek other cost controls before enforcing a mandate to buy coverage.

Obama, Tanden said, "betrays the cause of universal health care. For a potential Democratic nominee to be attacking universal care is quite stunning."

Nichols of the New America Foundation went farther.

"I am personally outraged at the picture used in this mailing," Nichols, a supporter of the so-called universal mandate said. "It is as outrageous as having Nazis march through Skokie,
Illinois."

In late 1970s, the American Nazi party won a court battle over the right to march through the predominantly Jewish Chicago suburb of Skokie, home to many Holocaust survivors. Despite their victory, the white supremacists decided to hold their demonstration in a Chicago park instead.

While both Clinton and Obama have outlined detailed plans to make health care more affordable and accessible, Clinton would require everyone to carry insurance while Obama would make enrollment voluntary. The two have clashed repeatedly over the matter, with Obama saying people cannot be required to buy insurance if they can't afford it, and Clinton saying universal enrollment is the only way to bring down insurance costs.

Obama spokesman Bill Burton responded by pointing to comments by Massachusetts Sen. Ted Kennedy, a longtime champion of universal health care who endorsed Obama earlier this week.

"It's the passion of my life, universal comprehensive health care, and I wouldn't support Barack Obama unless I was absolutely convinced that he was for universal comprehensive health care as well," Kennedy said in a television interview. "I've tried for 38 years to get the universal comprehensive health care. I've supported 12 different proposals to try to get there. Elect Barack Obama and we will get there."

Look crying over fairy tales……………..

Bishop from Sweden Europe   February 4th, 2008 5:51 am ET

I don't understand American way of health care plan.
this is how it works here in Sweden. you play for the first day of your sick day.
the next two weeks its companys who is resposible to pay you 80% of your salarie. with a doctors permision ofcause. should you be sick more than a two weeks then its the govement responsiblity to pay your health care. including your sick leave.
Children up to 20 years get free medical care.
adult can only pay maxinum of 300 dollas per year. any cost about that is covered by the states.
Visit to a doctor is $50 paid by the person concern.
Obama plans is second to none close to brining a healthy Americans.
Hillary plan seem good if you didn't have the above plan.

30%er   February 3rd, 2008 6:06 am ET

and just how many new government employees will this madate take to study, form and then enforce on americans? How much more tax dollars will this take to fund ? Is there even a ball park figure ? With all the dis-satisfaction on the war and its costly funding, at least we knew it would be costly. We need to see more real figures on universal health care, we need to see that areas of concern we have by looking at other countries systems have been adjusted and and improved. If were going to simply 'mandate', why don't we just mandate americans to have our current form of insurance and prices for insurance will drop because of quantity of insured. then not only will sick uninsured americans be sick, they can be arrested and fined or jailed. This sounds rediculas does'nt it ? Well so does mandated universal health care in its current form

John B   February 2nd, 2008 8:08 pm ET

Seems to me Bill is going to church to confess his scandals:
Impeachment and trial in the Senate.
Disbarment.
Administrative controversy.
Pardons and campaign finance.
Sexual misconduct allegations.
Clinton and the death penalty.
2008 Election Surrogate Controversy.

So we cannot elect Hillary Clinton to clean up after Bill Clinton.

Ben   February 2nd, 2008 1:31 pm ET

If Hillary can not tell us why she voted for war in Iraq, how can we trust her with our goverment. Shouldn't we have obvious reasons not to give her authority to strike if America is attacked. Can we trust her if she takes us to another war? Wake up America and see how these politcians can determine the rest of your lives. Can we say Hillary might take us to war either with Iran or any other country without telling us what the reasons are.
Anybody?

Misha   February 2nd, 2008 1:26 pm ET

Jason- what is the definition of who can't afford to buy the insurance. It's very easy to say that you'll provide subsidies to those who can't afford it. But I don't think that you or anyone in the government has the right to determine what another taxpayer can or cannot afford.

Louis, New York   February 2nd, 2008 1:12 pm ET

FINALLY - someone is telling the truth.
Forced, mandated … you buy it Hillary's way, weather you can afford it or not or you go to jail or get fined.

Read the few documents that were released she is still holding back about her failed health care plan from when Bill was in office. There is talk of the American people not accepting her plan unless in times of war. That it was too controlling, this was her own STAFF!

Her plans are no less controlling than any socialist state, you do what the state says or go to jail … this is America. KEEP IT FREE.

No more Clintons

Well the bottom line is MANDATE MEANS FORCED !"

The bottom line is that Americans don't have health care. And its a shameful line. Civilized countries also mandate that children HAVE to go to school. Some parents pay for that other are subsidized. Don;t pretend you don't understand.. Yes, Hillary is right. You have to be bold about solving this problem.

And Obama should shut up and go easy with his demagogic ads. His speeches and rallies, and his fanatic supporters.. well.. make your connection …

Canadian Cate   February 2nd, 2008 12:49 pm ET

Obama the change candidate? Left of Clinton, Kennedy endorsement, no leadership in the Senate and continue to argue that he’s the only Dem that didn’t vote for the war, even though he didn’t have a vote to cast.

What make anyone with sense think that he can unite the country when he can’t unite the party.

Get real and vote for the most qualified — Hillary Clinton.

Stop believe all this Obama hype…it’s the media that’s just wants to make itself important in this closed election. Don’t let them ruin the real problem that America’s faces by fronting Obama.

Anne-Los Angeles   February 2nd, 2008 12:41 pm ET

Whooa! The Clinton's can dish it out, but they can't take it. Go Obama

Real Change   February 2nd, 2008 12:19 pm ET

Let’s analyze the candidate’s campaign for change;
Hillary’s idea of change is having a woman as president, but reliving the past as she continues to remember the nineties. Continue to keep the same old way of doing business in Washington. Claiming to finally have the answer to health care which is only an untested idea on paper not knowing weather it will work or not and requiring you to buy into her plan. Taking away the ability of people to make their own choice and leaving it up to someone to decide for us. Is this not just an idea of hope? Just as she stated in the debate the other night when asked if she would have the troops out of Iraq in her first year, he r response was I hope so. Yet she stated in an earlier debate that hope isn’t a strategy.

Obama’s idea of change is to change the way we do business in Washington to move the country into a new direction. To provide health care for everyone who wants it and to allow those who already have coverage to make it more affordable for them while still allowing us to make our own choices. To unite not only America but the rest of the world so we can have a better world to live in.

I for one have already lived yesterday and know I can’t go back to change what has already happened.
Now it’s time I live for tomorrow which is the future, for which Obama is looking towards and beyond unlike Hillary’s idea of doing twentieth century politics in the twenty first century. America needs to finally move forward and support the person willing to lead us into the future not the past.
Hillary for once was………..
Barack for what will be………

OMABA SUCKS   February 2nd, 2008 12:06 pm ET

OBAMA IS INEXPERIENCED AND IF NOMINATED, THE REPUBLICANS WILL WIN AS PRESIDENT.

Mario, Streamwood IL   February 2nd, 2008 11:59 am ET

There are times when it is necessary for the government to mandate something, otherwise many people will continue to be irresponsible.

For example, my car was once hit by a driver with no insurance. I ended up paying the whole bill. Now Illinois has a mandate on insurance. As a result, my premium dropped a little bit. This mandate makes sense.

Let's remember that perfection is largely unattainable and expensive. Every program would have some flaws. Even the USA, the greatest country in the world, has imperfections…but it's still the best place to be in for now, for it's up to us, the citizens, to screw it up.

If we wait for a perfect National Health Care Plan, we will never get there. Any wonder why, as powerful and industrialized nation as we are, we have been fighting for such plan since after the WWII and still couldn't muster to get one in place?

I urge you my fellow citizens to accept such a mandate. When the election is over, let's petitioned our new government to implement some kind of national health plan.

Let's have a plan that would protect our citizens against any chronic, terminal, devastating illnesses (not your common cold and cuts). It's bad enough to suffer physically and mentally. We do not need to lose our dignities and become indigents, especially in the greatest country on earth.

Are They Crazy??????????   February 2nd, 2008 11:57 am ET

Looks like Hillary made another bad judgment call in her adviser. An adviser to the very thing she swears has been her whole focus her entire political career.

Hmmmm I'll have to think about that for just a second or two. Bad judgment in adviser or contrived Nazi comment. I'm betting contrived since the statement just happened to be made in an area with a high Jewish population.

Now isn't that perfect timing? Kind of like Bill's response to that heckler in Colorado. Why Bill even knew exactly how many muslim victims there were on 9/11…just had that on the tip of his tongue. Forgot the $131.3 million contribution from a Russian uranium miner but knew that information. Go figure.

There really isn't anything they won't do is? I guess she'll just claim no knowledge or apologize again. Something she seems to do a lot of.

sean Metamora,IL   February 2nd, 2008 11:55 am ET

as soon as health insurance is manditory you can count on the price skyrocketing.

ed   February 2nd, 2008 11:54 am ET

no jason, clinton was sending out mailings in Iowa claiming that Barack was pro life, then in Nevada automated calls claiming that Barack supported a republican agenda and storing nuclear waste at Yucca Mountain. Then in S.C. automated calls claiming lies about John Edwards. Those were all lies told by the Hillary Clinton Campaign. So despite this mailing by Barack which told the truth, Hillary's camp was really the first ones to send out mailings and the only campaign to be truely deceitful. Also, factcheck.org is not an objective website, and Hillary is not sincere in anything she says.

tim   February 2nd, 2008 11:51 am ET

Sorry about the typos.

tim   February 2nd, 2008 11:47 am ET

The Clinton political apparatus is as slimy a crew as has ever been put together on either side of the aisle. The seem to subscribe completely to, "the end justifies the means." John Edwards comes off as an honest, straight forward type of man…I truly hope that the person who I feel can best represent our nation, Se. Barack Obama, considers Mr. Edwards very seriously as a VP. Together, these two statesmen would make a powerful, caring team and return respect to our country.

gary   February 2nd, 2008 11:25 am ET

Hllary plays dirty tricks.
Her campaing official attacks other camp- if it gets traction fine if not she dissociate herself from the comment or fires the official. If the other side fires back then she plays victim. It is time to put an end to all this and unite behind Obama

Talk about sensationalism. Two white people sitting at a kitchen tables evoke memories of Nazis marching down the street? What does that mean?

ELB   February 2nd, 2008 10:52 am ET

This is true Hillary. I am a conservative, and I think Obama is sounding more like a conservative each day. I just might vote for him if it is Obama vs. McCain in November.

Jason   February 2nd, 2008 10:10 am ET

It's sad as I read all of these comments how most people don't seem to have fully read, or at least comprehend, this story. Hillary Clinton's campaign had nothing to do with the comment. Nichols of The New America Foundation, which is "a non-profit public policy institute and think tank located in Washington, D.C. that promotes innovative political solutions transcending conventional party lines…" was the person to make the comment. Clinton's camp distanced themselves from the comments however offended they may be.

People are also ignoring that Obama's camp sent out such a decieptful mailer in the first place. That Clinton explained subsidies will be offered to help those who otherwise couldn't afford the changes and that Edwards, another proponent of universal healthcare coverage, dismisses the mailer.

While I'm at it i'd like to point out Factcheck.orgs accounting of the debate this week! Want to talk about saying anything to get elected check out what they had to say about Obama!

Troy, Seattle WA   February 2nd, 2008 9:15 am ET

Mimi   February 1st, 2008 11:12 pm ET

The Swift Boat Clintons strike again. All that being said, who can explain to me, a true independent, how a candidate who is basing a campaign on the unity and importance of bipartisanship defend themselves by swinging so far in one direction of our spectrum?

II am appalled at the lack of objectivity in the majority of the comments. Nazi's marching in a Jewish community is as offensive as images of slavery. I can't understand the lack of empathy — or the absence of outrage that any good Democrat would stand by and allow anyone to make sure parallels. It is absolutely unacceptable! Obama should be ashamed. This was a low blow by the Barrack Hussein Obama campaign. I can't believe that so many of you fail to see this hypocrisy. This isn't about Clinton — it is about the continued negativity and hypocrisy of Obama and the white glove treatment he gets from the press.

Julie VanDusky   February 1st, 2008 10:31 pm ET

midwest   February 1st, 2008 10:31 pm ET

Talk about demonizing your opponent. Hillary is basically calling Barack a Nazi because his mailer is a litte overzealous in pointing out that a serious concern with the Hillary healthcare plan??

Nathan   February 1st, 2008 6:36 pm ET

How does Obama critizing her health care plan for taking away choice from individuals and being called a Nazi make him "just another politician"? I don't see how any reasonable person could think the comments made from the Clinton camp are acceptable and I would hope that Hillary would disavow them.

NYC Democrat   February 1st, 2008 6:36 pm ET

I just looked at the mailer on politico.com and saw absolutely nothing wrong with it. Its a husbad and wife sitting at a dinner table looking at papers. they arent happy, sad, confused - they're just talking. If the Clintons think that mailer justifies a reference to the Nazis, they are completely out of touch. The mailer is fine. The Clinton campaigns comment is unacceptable.

Lee, Boston, MA   February 1st, 2008 6:33 pm ET

Both campaigns continually disappoint me.

We can all make informed decisions when you explain your differences to us: you don't need to exaggerate, misrepresent, and lie to make your opponent seem worse. Sigh.

Lee

Aj   February 1st, 2008 6:32 pm ET

ppl they both have Universal Health care plans. Clinton's will be MANDATED and Obama's will not. y would u want to be forced to pay for something that some people don't even use??? think about that.

Kat   February 1st, 2008 5:58 pm ET

I love this story on so many levels. The first one is that a Clinton surrogate compares a picture of a couple at a table to Nazi's on the march. I saw the flyer. That is an insane analogy.

Secondly, every story I have seen on this "issue" carries a statement about how Hillary couldn't beat the insurance companies in 1994 to reform healthcare. Keep those reminders coming.

pj (non-partisan independent)   February 1st, 2008 5:57 pm ET

i understand her campaign not liking this add, but comparing it to a nazi march through a jewish neighborhood is ludicrous and insulting to our collective intelligance. shame on Nichols for trying to invoke such memories.

They so desperate that it is starting to show!

GOBAMA!!!!! He is the voice of the American people and we are staying let go of the past and move on to the future!!!!

The mailer, simply states the truth.

The response, is typical Clinton.

Nazis marching acrossed Illinois?

People are going to vote for this?

LisaMpls   February 1st, 2008 5:51 pm ET

As a Hillary supporter, I think the Nazi comparison goes a bit too far. I'm glad Howard disavowed it on behalf of Hillary. I will say, though, that these negative mailers are ridiculous!! Enough is enough already, Obama campaign!!!!! And you say that Hillary will say anything to get elected…I'm pretty sure you have been the negative nellies recently. Well, I think Sen. Obama needs to back down from the negativity and realize he is not willing to stick his neck out for all of us when we need it most.

cheryl Arizona   February 1st, 2008 5:50 pm ET

I guess Obama does play dirty. The same thing he accused Clinton of. But his supporters will never sya a word about it. The only protest Clinton

TexasDude   February 1st, 2008 5:50 pm ET

Wow! Now Obama is a Nazi? It is true that the Clintons will say anything to win an election. I hope the media does follow up on this becuase it will show how uncouth, dishonest and foul the Clinton machine is. You Clinton people really need to wake up. I was once an ardent supporter of Clinton, and I did. Are the ends of having Clinton as the nominee really worth such attrocious means? I think not, particularly since she will almost certainly lose in the general election.

Wake up, Clinton people, wake up! The future of our country depends on you doing so.

Obama/Edwards '08

C, Norfolk, VA   February 1st, 2008 5:48 pm ET

What is it with the Clinton camp and their repeated charges of conspiracy and facism on the parts of their opponents? It is getting a bit tiresome and predictable.

lewis clark   February 1st, 2008 5:47 pm ET

Obama's immaturity has been broadly rellected in his own statements, attitude and his supporters' behavior. How could he, as a democratic candidate, praise Reagan whose deficit mess was cleaned up by Bill after a couple of years.
His cold snub to Hillary's stretching hands shows he is a very immature young man who is not equipped to handle the complexity of world politics.

Now this is simply outrageous. He has compromised his original stance of universal health plan after a drug company lobbyist ran his campaign in NH. His lame excuse that not everyone wants medical insurance is an insult to the intelligence of American voters. CNN should take a poll to find out how many Americans do not want health insurance.

Obama is a masterly crafty politician who is intoxicated with his own rhetoric which has blinded so many on crucial issues of this campaign.

To compare Hillary's health plan which is sensible, fair and affordable to the Nazi match speaks loudly of Obama and his supporters' immaturity, lack of balance and most of all lack of honesty .

Kathy   February 1st, 2008 5:46 pm ET

Xavier, Washington, DC   February 1st, 2008 5:36 pm ET

What's wrong with the picture? It's a young white couple. Oh, the horror!

This mailer is so tame compared to the flat out lies that Hillary sent out that suggested that Obama supported Yuca mountain or that he didn't support a woman's right to choose.

Jan   February 1st, 2008 5:36 pm ET

Obama's plan is not universal health insurance. Both Clinton and Edwards had to explain that to him at the SC debate. They also explained that low income people would have thier premiums subsidized. Why would Edwards voters vote for Obama when he is sending out Carl Rove type fear mailers condemning universal health care. Paul Klugman wrote an excellent article outlining why only Clinton could deliver universal health insurance. Democrats have been running on this issue Harry Truman. It is time to deliver or shut up.

margaret Payne   February 1st, 2008 5:35 pm ET

I watch CNN everyday and all I hear all day is Barack Obama, so I feel if he wins a lot will be due to all his free advertisement. CNN seems to be really down on Hillary Clintion. You seem to pick out the good things on Obama and the negative on Hillary. I really hope Hillary wins because of her experiance and I trust that she will be able to get this country back on track.

Indydemrep   February 1st, 2008 5:34 pm ET

I think someone is very nervous, and I don't think it's the Obama camp. The only way DEMS will win the election is if Obama is the nominee. America, wake up and smell the future.

Evaluate the voting exit polls. DEMS WILL LOSE ELECTION IF OBAMA IS NOT THE NOMINEE. Hillary is a good candidate but she doesn't have Independent and Repubilcans voting for her.

EVALUATE!!!!! Vote for the person who can win come November. Please America Evaluate.

God Bless us all!!!!

Why is it that the Clinton campaign only think and comment on things using highly offensive and racially charged language? Every issue that they address seems to be delibrately packaged in explosive racial characterization. I have strong concerns about the tone of their campaign and the fact that the campaign has to keep on running behind their surrogates and supporters to correct their language each time any of them opens his/her mouth. Why can't they object to criticism in a civil manner? Is this how she plans to react to Iran or Zimbabwe or North Korea when they criticize America?

The whole nazi thing is a bit much, but I agree with everything else. Hillary said that the whole point is to make it mandatory and affordable, and that's all aside from the fact that Hillary's plan IS universal health care while Obama's CAN BE universal in the future.

Either way, I'm still supporting Hillary. Let Obama actually complete a term in the federal government and then I'll consider him.

Ron   February 1st, 2008 5:12 pm ET

Why do people always used inflammatory language such as Nazis. It's the old case where the inventor knows what's going on and expects everyone else to know all the details and facts as well without having a clear detailed explanation. I have always had a dislike for tax credits, tax subsidies and the like to pay for things. The simplest solution is to just make the cost of health insurance deductible from your income tax for all of those who file taxes. For those who do not, they file for a form to get re-reimbursed for the cost of health insure or the insurance company sends the bill to somewhere like Medicaid. We can deduct mortgage interest, why not health insurance. Also Hillary states that she wants to provide the same health care as Congress gets. How many people know what that is and what it entails.
Finally don't use words like Nazi. You sound like Carl Rove and his group.

Graham   February 1st, 2008 5:09 pm ET

A group of Hilary supporters said it.

Lance in Monrovia   February 1st, 2008 5:07 pm ET

When will this negative, back biting, cheating crapola from the Hillary Clinton campaign stop. They constantly, constantly play the victim.

Barack has been civil, just, reasonable, and wise. You can't ask for more than that in a president. I'm a lifelong Democrat, and I absolutely will not vote to put another Clinton in the White House. We've had enough of this politics as usual. they can't find anything to attack Barack on so they manipulate polls and news stories to give Hillary an edge that she only has since she's the wife of a former president.

I'd love to see the first woman in the white house, I don't care who it is as long as the best person gets it, but Hillary hasn't earned this, Barack has. He's done all this on his own, she's ridden Bill's coattails.

Obama is the future, the Clintons like the Bushes are the past.

Obama 08

Get off your butts and make it happen people. Its time to change this world, its time to steer this ship in a new direction with Barack Obama at the helm.

Call your friends, knock on doors, get out the vote. Feb. 5th is it.

make the future happen or lose it.

Bill   February 1st, 2008 5:04 pm ET

Do the Clinton's know no bounds!!! Calling Obama a Nazi because he disagrees with her stance on a political issue. Do we really need someone that can not address people on the issues and instead resorts to attacking opponents on personal levels with personal swipes.

I know you are going to hear the HRC supporters say that Hillary did not say this. That it was some group that supports her. Please Hillary has been using surrogates to attack Obama for the past few weeks.

Hillary and her politics must go.

OBAMA '08

YES WE CAN

The mailer is wrong and misleading." - Peter Harbage, former Edwards health care adviser

Trever   February 1st, 2008 5:04 pm ET

Um, are you listining John Edwards??? Obama is NOT for Universal Health Care…

Endorse Hillary before Obama ruins our chances at having Universal Health Care…

Brennan - Seattle, WA   February 1st, 2008 5:03 pm ET

They can deny it if they want to, but this is a typical old world political attack.

Relate a mailer that challenges a health care plan to a nazi(does not deserve to be capitalized) march? If this is who you have advising you, then that is not the type of government that I want and you are not a candidate that I can support.

I understand that Clinton did not say this herself, but she is surrounded by sharks and when you surround yourself with sharks there will always be blood.

Suz   February 1st, 2008 5:03 pm ET

Elect Hillary and we will get there. Elect Barack Obama and we will NEVER get there.

Disgusted   February 1st, 2008 5:02 pm ET

Once again Obama throws and rock and hides his hands. Or should I say hides behind Uncle Teddy. Of course, no outrage since Obama can do no wrong and Hillary can do no right.

Misha, St Louis, Missouri   February 1st, 2008 4:59 pm ET

I don't understand the Nazi analogy. But as far as the mailer is concerned, isn't that what mandating health insurance means? You will be forced to purchase it.

observer   February 1st, 2008 4:58 pm ET

I am not suprised. Hillary has been attacked for 35 years, she has held strong and kept on track. She has had to answer questions no one should or would ask other candidates. The mailers are no big shock. I noticed our great uniter was cordial to Hillary last night, almost overly. What a show. He speaks well but I see no substance there. In such a big way, he has divided this whole party, allin the name of "unity." W ehave been warned of such a person, I think we found him, Obama. Vote Hillary

CAL   February 1st, 2008 4:58 pm ET

wow this is just getting rediculous. yet again, say anything, do nothing.

BeFair   February 1st, 2008 4:56 pm ET

Obama is clearly taking advantage of his 'Uniter' brand.. Going on attacks and attacks on clinton. He knows clintons can't attack back..

tomdavie   February 1st, 2008 4:55 pm ET

More dirty tricks by the Obama campaign.

Maris, CA   February 1st, 2008 4:55 pm ET

Just goes to show, there is nothing too low that Obama and his camp won't do to get the votes. His dirty tactics are starting to pay off in Connecticut where flyers were sent out to voters saying that Hillary's Universal Health Care Plan would fine people who couldn't afford to pay for the insurance. An out and out lie, but Hillary's poll numbers in that state have started to drop since the mailing. Where is the clean campaign Obama promised?

I wonder if CNN will post this comment? Most of mine don't make it.

Scott   February 1st, 2008 4:54 pm ET

Talk about sensationalism. Two white people sitting at a kitchen tables evoke memories of Nazis marching down the street? What does that mean?

Concerned   February 1st, 2008 4:54 pm ET

That's crazy

Ron, TX   February 1st, 2008 4:54 pm ET

“Nazi” and “apartheid” are strong words that should be used sparingly and precisely out of their original context—and probably not at all. (A good rule in most discussions is that the first person to call the other a Nazi automatically loses the argument.) - The Economist, 8-16-2007

I'm surprised the Clinton people view this mailer as "negative" when all it does it critique the Clinton's health care plan. It's surely nowhere near as negative as the mailers Clinton sent in NH accusing Obama of being pro-life, or the mailers she sent out in Nevada claiming he was pro-nuclear-storage-at-Yucca-Mountain. At least Obama's mailer is factual.

Steven, California   February 1st, 2008 4:53 pm ET

Oh Clinton camp…

Please dont stir up muddy waters AGAIN…

Vincent   February 1st, 2008 4:53 pm ET

I thought Obama was "upove" all this…whos playing dirty now?

Azar   February 1st, 2008 4:52 pm ET

The Clintons and top advisors will do anything to tarnish Barack Obama. Skokie, IL has a large Jewish population in the Chicago Metro area. I got news for the advisor, many Jewish Democrats do not like Hillary Clinton. They are for Obama.

juke jointer   February 1st, 2008 4:52 pm ET

The Nazi comment says a lot about the Clinton camp's inability to handle criticism. Are they still smarting, after all these years, from the "Harry and Louise" ads so much that a picture of a couple at a kitchen table is the equivalent of Nazis marching through Skokie, Ill.? That means they're comparing themselves to Holocaust victims. That's sad, really sad — and scary.

What an idiot   February 1st, 2008 4:51 pm ET

So, let's see - a picture of a couple sitting at a table with a look of concern on their faces coupled with the TRUE statement that the Clinton plan would mandate coverage is the same as representatives of the perpetrators of one of the most vile acts in human history marching through a neighborhood in front of those who lost family or years of their lives by their hands. Hmm.

NickNas   February 1st, 2008 4:50 pm ET

To ALL of you I told yesterday that the day AFTER Hillary Faked her sweetness at the debate that one of her people would do this the next day……. I TOLD YOU SO!!!!!!!

Look it up in my comments dureing the debate… that is IF that and THIS comment isn't deleted by the Mods

Jim ( Independent )   February 1st, 2008 4:48 pm ET

Well the bottom line is MANDATE MEANS FORCED !

Poor people will be FORCED to buy something they can not afford.
