NEW YORK (CNN) - Voters at a Harlem elementary school named after trailblazing black Congressman Adam Clayton Powell, Jr. say they face an agonizing decision whether to vote for another African-American trailblazer.

“It’s a tough choice,” declared Charles Townsend, a 50-year-old professor at City College. “It’s an embarrassment to have to choose between the two.”

“I love Hillary Clinton,” said 75-year-old Georgia Brown after she pulled the level for Obama. “She’s already been President,” cracked Brown. “Time for change.”

Consider: Harlem is normally Clinton Country. Voters here twice elected Hillary Clinton to the Senate by overwhelming margins. Former President Bill Clinton remains hugely popular; his Harlem office is only a mile away from the Adam Clayton Powell, Jr. School. And, Harlem’s Democratic political establishment led by Rep. Charles Rangel (who defeated Adam Clayton Powell, Jr. in 1970) is backing Hillary Clinton.

But Barack Obama has huge appeal here.

“Hillary has better ideas. I love Bill Clinton,” said Margret Segura. Even so, the retired Harlem resident said she voted for Obama.

Obama’s call for change resonates with some voters here, young and old. Charles McKnight, 82, says he voted for Obama because “I’m tired of the system. I’m looking for something new.”

The decision was so difficult for some Harlem residents that they made up their minds in the voting booth.

“I struggled,” conceded Michael Jones, a hospital employee, before he voted for Hillary Clinton.

The latest Quinnipiac University poll of New York State voters, conducted January 30-February 3 had Clinton leading Obama 53 percent to 39 percent, a narrowing of her advantage.

Sen. Clinton is widely expected to win her state. But under Democratic primary rules, which split delegates according to percentage of votes, Barack Obama is likely to pick up a share of the state’s 281 delegates, in Clinton strongholds like Harlem.

Hillary or Obama one of them need to win the white house,,to all democrats dont change for what we always stand for, im a black male from Haiti for my black folks dont see Obama as black and dont see Hillary as white ,,see them as the one that gonna change America and get rid of those republicains in the white house, if you (DEMOCRATS) thinks Obama is the one vote for for him but dont vote for him because is black and you are a black african ,,you need a black african in the white house ,,think if the white voters decide to vote for Hillary,,will Obama stand a chance i really doubt it and there is no way for him to become President,,this campaign shouldn't be about race at all,,,,,this 2008 not 1948 or 1958 this is the new america a new century if you folks (BLACK, WHITE LATINO ASIAN) can't see it like that, those candidates dont deserve your votes,,,,,because you are still leaving in the PAST,,forget about the PAST now is the FUTURE

it is ashame that we in NY state or NYC doesn't support our Senator all the way, unlike IL they do support their Senator 100%. How come we can't do that? I support Hillary and it's so disappointing to see harlem folks not to support her. After all they done to there neighborhood.

If I were black, I'd vote for Obama. If I were a woman, I'd vote for Hillary. If I were a veteran, I'd vote for McCain. If I were an evangelical, I'd vote for Huckabee. If I were a Morman, I'd vote for Romney.

Being none of the above, I'll just go for the one who seems clearest on the issues and best qualified for the job. This year, it's Hillary.

Tou, Minnesota   February 5th, 2008 6:21 pm ET

Wow. Some of you really like to be ruled. Ever since I was just a kid in 1988, my livelihood has been ran by a Bush or Clinton....20 frickin years. Enough with the old. Bring in the new. I still don't see what Clinton did that was so great for African Americans or what he did for the economy. The Clintons didn't invent the Internet to boost the economy. Quit giving them credit they don't deserve. Have we forgot that Clinton cheated on Hillary and almost got impeached? And now we won't them back in the White House. Only reason why they're still together is for their own careers, nothing else. Vote Obama to restore the Constitutional rights that were given to us.

Jimmy   February 5th, 2008 6:07 pm ET

young voters (first time voters) not mindful or knowledgeable on the serious issues facing our country, in my humble opinion, are voting just to let one and all that they are now old enough to vote. The candidates have stated more than a few times that this election is not about race or religion.

IF you look at the polls, they tell us that race and religion does play a role and IT IS SHOWING without a doubt. LOOK at the early results. There is more division
among the voters than ever. All the previous LOSERS in the previous Presidential campaigns have gotten together to endorse one of the Democratic candidate.
I suppose that to them it would be some sort of a vicarious victory if their candidate wins. NOT one of these previous candidates or a well know wannabee
whose tainted past will be remembered long after he's gone.

Let's pray for the best. GOD Bless America.

Gigi   February 5th, 2008 6:05 pm ET

Obama will probably carry my state of Alabama, but I did not vote for him or Mrs. Clinton. I actually threw my vote away by voting for the man I thought was the best one for the job. He suspended his candidacy, but I know he got at least one vote from a very dedicated supporter.

Hillary is the clear intelligent choice for president. Voting for someone just because you "like him better than her" is how Jr. High School kids choose who to vote for. We should vote for the person most likely to be able to do the job–as evidenced by her experience.

Illinois Voters   February 5th, 2008 5:43 pm ET

Two Illinois voters here who wholeheartedly support Hillary Clinton! As residents of Illinois we know the true poor record of Senator Obama. We suggest that voters check the record of a candidate before voting. Hillary Clinton has the experience, and a real plan to improve our economy, health care, environment and foreign relations.
GO HILLARY CLINTON!

Come on CNN, you have been catering to Obama and censoring Pro-Clinton comments.

Yeah – I know "Your comment is awaiting moderation."

Seems like the media (radio, newspapers, television and Internet outlets like CNN) have been pushing for Obama! Could it be that the "corporate owners" want to make sure that we have another Republican President?

julie   February 5th, 2008 5:40 pm ET

Women are shamelessly voting for HRC because she is a woman. Hillary is trying to appeal to them by crying every day before an election and by going on the Hallmark channel. No one should vote for anyone based on race OR gender but if you haters think that women are voting for Hillary because of her policies then y'all are nuts. Women are voting for Hillary because they want to vote for a woman and because they liked Bill. Nothing more to it than that, and this is a disgrace. I've heard more than one person lately joke that we never should have given women the right to vote. I am a woman and value my right to vote but if most women are simply going to blindly vote for a woman then maybe that joke has a point.

Ladies, don't be fooled by crocodile tears! If YOU cried in a job interview, you wouldn't get the job, so why should she???

If you want driver's licenses for illegals, Obama is your guy. If you want Kennedy's and Kerry's ideas and deals implemented, Obama is your guy. If you have no clue of what you want, just hopeful like him, Obama is your guy. However, if you want to think about the future, with plenty of jobs, with surpluses rather than deficits, with America's reputation restored, then you want to vote for Hillary Clinton. All the people with negative remarks about Bill Clinton need to remember that he was elected president to fix the economy. Remember "It is the economy stupid"? Did he not deliver that? Was America not prosperous and respected then? Did we not have economic surpluses and deficit under control? Did you realize ALL those things REALLY happened during the Clinton presidency? Or were you busy about gossiping about the affair (which was supposed to be his family’s business–not yours) that you missed to see that the accomplished what he said he would?

Janel, St. Paul, MN   February 5th, 2008 5:38 pm ET

Barack Obama is the candidate who answered questions in early primaries, while Hillary Clinton cut off such opportunities. . .and instructed her daughter to do the same. Unfortunately, she couldn't silence her husband. . .to her dismay.

The recent Obama rallies that have drawn literally thousands of individuals are forums at which to answer individual questions.

I still chuckle when I remember the last CNN debate when the three candidates were asked about their weaknesses. Only Obama answered truthfully, while Clinton and Edwards gave stock answers, "My weakness is that I care TOO much!"

Give me a break!!!

Obama 08!!

Bubba   February 5th, 2008 5:37 pm ET

Didn't it ever occur to you readers that a large portion of the pro-Obama supporters on here are actually republicans?

I listen to a "progressive radio" and hear callers from GOP havens calling in telling the listeners that they are suddenly leaving the republican party because Obama is so compelling! Get real, the GOP (Greedy Old Party) members could care less what Obama says, they just want the weakest opposition in November!

Vote Hillary Clinton.

HOW will he bring people together and unite the country?

What is this Hillary "baggage" that you talk about and how does it pertain to her qualifications as a potentially effective president?

Don't you think respect comes from concrete, detailed plans and actions and not inspiring words and speeches?

Give me a break. I need REAL reasons to vote for a candidate.

Akua   February 5th, 2008 5:28 pm ET

The comments about Obama not letting questions be asked is not true. He had an open forum on MTV some months back that was all questions from the audience. I have not been to a rally (and if you haven't either you really shouldn't speculate) but I did watch the forum on MTV.

And I believe that Republicans and some Democrats despise Hillary and Bill enough that they will rally against her, and we'll 8 more years of Republicans in the White House.

HillarySupporter   February 5th, 2008 5:24 pm ET

Obama has baggage if he has done anything.......because everyone does. To say he has no baggage says he hasn't done anything – that I can believe.

But, why doesn't Senator Obama answer questions from the audience like Senator Clinton does? No answers or no Oprah – take your pick.

VNC   February 5th, 2008 5:23 pm ET

Um... let me just say... Barack Obama has a strong record/background which makes him fit to be this country's president... he's not all words and motivational speeches. Do your research people... you will be surprised once you really learn the facts.

OBAMA '08

Lilly   February 5th, 2008 5:20 pm ET

ummm...okay.....She is convinced that Hillary has better ideas, yet she votes for Obama? Is it because of his race and ethnicity? That would be very unfortunate and even more so, if this became some sort of national trend.

Nathan,   February 5th, 2008 5:15 pm ET

The statement that "Hillary has better ideas and I love her" but I voted for Obama shows exactly what this election is about. If you think she's the better candidate, and you also like her, oh excuse me "love her. Why vote for her opponent? What about him gets your vote?

I was also against the war from the beginning. I want your vote.

DEM VOTER   February 5th, 2008 5:14 pm ET

It is interesting to me that the Obama supporters seem to take pleasure in bashing Hillary and those that support her, and yet they are calling for "change," which I can presume also includes fairness, peace and respect, etc. Interestingly, they themselves do not seem to embrace these qualities. They are waiting for someone to do it for them.

I don't want to ignore the campaign or its issues, but is it too much to ask that people use correct English grammar when they post comments on a nationally viewed site? Obviously no one is perfect but honestly folks, get it together. As an Obama supporter I'd like to know exactly how Clinton will improve our education system so people can learn to read and write at an adult level. I've heard a lot about health care and Iraq but not much from her on specific plans to improve our schools.

Wake up people ! Barack Obama gives this country a chance to show the world that we stand for the priciples of the Constitution, and the Bill of Rights. These are the ideals we are trying to spread around the world. .....we should show that they really mean something to us. ....and are not just a sham!

Obama support in Iowa   February 5th, 2008 4:43 pm ET

to Charlotte who says Obama holds rally's not town hall meetings.

Obama has had hundreds of town hall meetings. I attended 2 of them here in Iowa just over a month ago. I have had the opportunity to ask him a question (as did several others in attendance) and he answered it to my satisfaction. He doesn't spout a lot of political rhetoric and nonsense, he talks plain english that anyone (who is listening) can understand. I read his book "The Audacity of Hope" last December and I am firmly convinced he is head and shoulders above any other candidate (in either party) running in this election. I have purchased 4 copies of that book for family and friends and all have become Obama supporters. Open your eyes and pay attention and you'll see what all the buzz is about.

Jenny, Rio Vista, CA   February 5th, 2008 4:40 pm ET

This article does nothing but incite racist remarks. CNN, you ought to be ashamed of yourself. There is no substance in this article. I am sure there are a lot of women who voted for Hilary because she is a woman.

My boyfriend is a physics professor, who just happens to be black. Although he had already decided to vote for Obama he was quite willing to vote for Hillary if she became the nominee. After the South Carolina fiasco with Hillary and Bill, he will no longer vote for her. (I mentioned that he is a professor so that you cannot dismiss him because of lack of intellect).

I am a Miss Democrat here in California. I was originally torn between John Edwards and Barack Obama, and therefore because John dropped out voted for Barack. I have always defended Bill Clinton against the nasty remarks made by republican friends. However, I recently told them that I now understand there distaste for the Clintons. I was disgusted at their behavior.

aleta   February 5th, 2008 4:40 pm ET

It's sad that Blacks are being made to feel guilty about supporting Barack Obama. This crap about "identity politics" is just another way to divide people. Was it identity politics before when white men supported another white man? The answer is NO.....NO...you didn't even hear that crap until a qualified African American started scaring all the racists with his popularity and chance of winning.

When there were only whites running, there was no mention of "Identity Politics"

Obama has taken questions, he has participated in the debates with Hillary for one, and, at least in my town, he spoke with individuals at an event I attended.

Everyone has an opinion on who has better ideas, judgment, experience etc., I think we ought to respect when someone disagrees -and not denigrate an old woman who votes against her belief. The truth is every candidate will get reasoned and non-reasoned support. I have a co-worker who is voting for Hillary just because she is a woman, and another who is too apathetic to be informed -so she's going Bill II. Let's not be self-righteous about our neighborhoods, or co-supporters. I say that even as I too wish that people at least had some serious reasons behind who gets their vote. Not just 'he's black, she's female, or Bill Clinton sure looked cool when he played the sax in '94' Obama '08.

Enough with the "expereience card", Hillary...it's sounding very antiquated at this point!!!

It is unfortunate that the Main Stream Media does not give Hillary the same coverage as Obama, which is why many do not know her plans on other issues. If you're interested in her plans, you can go to her website and watch the National Town Hall she held last night where she discussed everything from the economy to green jobs, energy independence, veterans issues, even infrastructure. As far as allies are concerned, more super delegates have endorsed her than Obama.
Recent endorsements include Senator Bill Nelson of Florida, Senator Patty Murray of Washington, if you like star power, Jack Nicholson endorsed her yesterday.

I believe Senator Clinton is the one who can turn her words into reality. She's been doing this for 35 years, with success! As Jack said, "She's the best man for the job"

For those individuals that praise Hillary's ideas and experience I have a question.

She has had over 6 years in the United States Senate to promote a health plan, to promote her ideas on education, to promote, to promote, to promote but did she? No!!!!. What held her back? Why now???

Yes I too have heard that she was involved in many decisions that were made for our country while living in the White House, but that is experience? She claims to endores unions but what was her role when she was on the board of Wal Mart? Look that one up.

This Independent voter from NH will not be casting a ballot for her come November. I have yet to miss an election in my 57 years of being eligible to vote but there is always a first.

WHAT ABOUT REZKO?!?

WHAT ABOUT HIS "PRESENT" VOTES?

WHAT ABOUT HIS "OOPS I PUSHED THE WRONG BUTTON" VOTES?

And I'm sure there are others. Then again, he hasn't DONE anything, so there isn't much to talk about. Unless you like talking about HOT AIR BALLOONS.

HILLARY CLINTON FOR PRESIDENT!

Mike from MA   February 5th, 2008 4:02 pm ET

You can tell me all you want about Obama, but he just does not have the experience that Hillary Clinton has.

Be leary of the man who does not allow questions to be asked.

Obama had the perfect opportunity to take questions on his tour and yes, I am calling it a tour, because it reminded me of some rock star setup instead of real campaigning.

This article is very one sided...

Come on CNN...

krysia   February 5th, 2008 4:00 pm ET

I find it funny that people will pick up the fact that a black person votes black. How about the blacks who decide not to vote for Obama because of wanting to please people like you! i.e "not voting black". Give me a break! Hillary cannot unite across the party lines and you can only veto so much! How much has she gotten accomplished in the many years in the senate by enlisting the help of republicans and cynics? Obama will unite us as 1!

Chris, Orlando, FL   February 5th, 2008 3:59 pm ET

I would never, NEVER vote for a candidate just because he/she was white like me. The voters who were interviewed for this piece who voted for Obama despite admitting that Hillary has better ideas should have their vote nullified. The day we elect someone on the basis of their skin color is the day this country has officially gone to hell.

vegage   February 5th, 2008 3:57 pm ET

Who belives Obama turned down good paid job offers and instead he went to work with the poors, PLEASE, that was the only job he got when graduated law school. He has no ideas, only speaks with no real plans, that why Hillary is the best candidate by far...

Harriet   February 5th, 2008 3:55 pm ET

I wonder if we could stop bashing people for exercising their right to vote for the candidate of their choice. Democracy means just that – that we can vote our conscience and our hearts. There are two strong candidates running, but one has more of a negative history than the other.

i do agree, though – based on baggage – 2 terms of any Clinton is more than enough.

RAUL   February 5th, 2008 3:54 pm ET

WE DO SO KNOW WHY WE VOTE FOR OBAMA.

WE VOTE FOR HIM BECAUSE HE DOES NOT SPEND HIS TIME LYING TO US.

WE VOTE FOR HIM BECAUSE HE WILL MAKE OUR COUNTRY PROUD AGAIN AND RESPECTED AROUND THE WORLD.

HE WILL BRING OTHERS INTO THE TENT NOT CHASE THEM AWAY.

HE HAS NO BAGGAGE.

HE WILL NOT RUN A CO PRESIDENCY.

WE VOTE FOR HIM BECAUSE UNLIKE HILLARY HE HAS THE TEAMWORK DOES IT ATTITUDE TO GET HEALTH CARE THROUGH CONGRESS AND GET IT DONE.

WE VOTE FOR HIM BECAUSE HE DOES NOT HAVE OUR YOUNG WARRIORS BLOOD ON HIS HANDS LIKE HILLARY.

WE VOTE FOR HIM BECAUSE YES; NO REASON TO APOLOGIZE HE INSPIRES.

BARACK AND ROLL IN 2008!

Isaac   February 5th, 2008 3:54 pm ET

Those who criticize ethnic or gender minorities who vote for their own are typically those who have never known oppression. ie, WASP's living in homogeneous places.

If everyone want's a change IN WASHINGTON then get rid of all the old politician's in office STARTING WITH TED KENNEDY! OBAMA IS A HYPOCRITE!

Hillary Clinton just blatantly lied on national television this morning. She said there were "six" contests so far and she won four of them. She was apparently referring to Michigan and Florida, which she promised the Democratic party she would not compete in.

Claiming victories in Florida and Michigan is like claiming a trophy in a basketball game when the other team couldn't show up because of a snowstorm.

She's shameless and she appears to be heading to a real defeat this time.

Electress   February 5th, 2008 3:51 pm ET

Keep watching the right hand corner of your TV, where the Dow is getting pounded. Think about the recession we are in.

Hillary is the best candidate to deal with these problems, she has experience,
and leadership to tackle the problems.

Vote Hillary, Vote for Solutions.

Me   February 5th, 2008 3:51 pm ET

Hillary herself included the 8 years as part of her experience.

Bubba   February 5th, 2008 3:49 pm ET

A vote for Obama is a WIN for the GOP!

You Obama supporters will savor the day if he gets the nomination but, you'll be overcome with grief when he loses the November election to "ANY REPUBLICAN" by a landslide!

Vote Hillary Clinton and bring the White House back to the Democratic Party.

Taylor   February 5th, 2008 3:49 pm ET

Charlotte, your comment is one of the most intelligent I've read on the Politcal Ticker in a while. Bravo to you for pointing out what is really happening in this race.

Linda   February 5th, 2008 3:48 pm ET

LATINAS FOR SENATOR CLINTON!!!
EXPERIENCE, EXPERIENCE, EXPERIENCE, EXPERIENCE.

GO HILLARY - YOU WILL BE OUR NEXT PRESIDENT, PERIOD.

Charlotte   February 5th, 2008 3:47 pm ET

Paul, I totally agree, Hillary has better ideas, but I'm voting for Obama? That is one comment that says it all!!!!

Kris   February 5th, 2008 3:46 pm ET

Yes I have to agree that Hillary answers questions and Obama does not. Hillary can bring this country back to where it should be. I also agree that too many people are voting for Obama because of his celebrity and famous endorsements,. This is not a reason to vote for someone! Vote Hillary! Show the world that woman are just as capable of running the country as the man who has been running our country for the past two terms.

Midwestern   February 5th, 2008 3:46 pm ET

"“Hillary has better ideas. I love Bill Clinton,” said Margret Segura. Even so, the retired Harlem resident said she voted for Obama."

WOW that is smart........you like the ideas of someone but vote against them. I wonder if its a race thing......."im black so im gonna vote black" ......

Dan, NJ   February 5th, 2008 3:45 pm ET

Hillary supporters, the nation is about 11% black. Women make up over 50% of Dem voters. Hillary has been playing to women since day one, crying twice on the eve of a huge primary vote. If you don't like identity politics, look to your candidate as the emobyment of same.

Rumor has it Al Gore will endorse Obama is he does well today. No indication what consitutes "doing well."

Carrie   February 5th, 2008 3:44 pm ET

Obama 08! YES WE CAN!!!

Mike From sunny Florida   February 5th, 2008 3:44 pm ET

Let's face it folks.

The decision to vote for Hillary or Obama, regardless of race or gender, was and is still a very difficult one to make. Both, in their own ways, are qualified to be in office.

Here is how I made my decision. Basically, the world hates us. No No, really they do and hate is putting it mildly and kindly.

Yes, we have tons of domestic problems like the economy; but unless you have been living under a rock for the last part of the century, our economy is tied to the world market which in turn is tied to world events and political strife.

So we need someone who can come in with a fresh take on foreign policy but also who is not afraid to use our military when it is absolutely needed to insure the stability of the world (which is different then creating instability when settling old scores)

That's why I voted for Hillary. And on the flip side, that's why Obama needs to be VP. While the Hill is out there fixing the world, Obama can be at home laying the ground work on domesitc issues.

Call it Strong Points Tag Teaming.

Then in 8 years when our country is back on-track, then Please Please by all means, vote Obama in to be President.

Smile   February 5th, 2008 3:43 pm ET

For A Texan....no matter how many times you post the truth about the man some will never like him BUT I"m 100% in support of him. I really don't feel like going back to the days of all that drama the Clintons had around them.

Can I EVER get posted?!   February 5th, 2008 3:43 pm ET

Charlotte- great point about Obama never having town hall meetings and ask/answer rallies!! I completely agree. I wish that this point was brought up sooner, because it is an excellent point! Obama does not seem to do well in debates and one-on-one. He would have difficulties debating against the GOP candidate...

Marissa   February 5th, 2008 3:43 pm ET

People say they are motivated by Obama's speeches. Yes I have heard him get fired up a few times, but overall I do not even think he is that good of a speaker. Hillary is the one who can bring changes to America. Listen to her replay of her Town Hall Interactive Meeting last night. She has real plans. Obama talks about change but I haven't really heard him outline any real plans. Obama would make a good VP for starters.

Hillary '08

WHAT HAPPENED TO THE SPEAL OF "UNITY"???

Get real people; do you really think he will be in charge if he gets this job?

NO. Kennedy and Kerry will finally have their chance. I saw them the other day picking out curtains for the Oval Office.

Come on wake up....

Harlem Resident   February 5th, 2008 3:42 pm ET

If Hillary can't win Harlem where she typically has a strong backing its because many residents of the neighborhood don't look at the facts and only look at the color of the skin. I unfortunately know all-too-well about the voting problem in Harlem, I live there. and know first-hand that many voters in that neighborhood are only voting based on race.

Ignorance always seems to trump all else.

Either way, I just wish people would stop looking at the color of ones skin or what is under someones clothes and vote based on experience, fact, and who you feel will lead the nation in the right direction.

warrior dowager   February 5th, 2008 3:41 pm ET

In decidint how to vote, the people of Harlem should recall these words
from MLK:

It is not the color of his skin but the content of her character.

Josh Smith   February 5th, 2008 3:41 pm ET

I'm an Independent, but I have been watching everyone closely. Here are some observations:

Sen. Hillary Clinton says she is for more transparency in government, more accountability, and states that she is campaigning on her record. Just a thought, but why then is every shred of what she did as First Lady locked up in the archives in the Clinton Presidential Library? And why is no one talking about this? Everything she said or did while she was living in the White House for eight years cannot be accessed, and she is using words like "transparency", "accountability", and the phrase "look at my record". Please, Senator Clinton, I would love to look at your record, BUT YOU WON"T LET ME. Also, I'm terribly frightened that Sen. Clinton is going to abandon the costly gains we've made in Iraq. Let's please not have to go back to that place a third time.

On the flipside, I don't precisely know if Americans are ready to witness the inaguration of Barak Mohammed Hussein Obama. I'm good with it, but I fear that as Election Day nears, the question "what's in a name" could be asked. Concordantly, change just for the sake of change is NOT a good thing. Unemployment at 5% and growth at 3% is not weak. The housing sector needs help, yes, but the economy is fine, and one could argue that the government should not be in the business of propping it up at taxpayer expense. There are other things for which my tax dollars should be used, as opposed to spending them to battle the natural economic cycle of expansion and correction. Want to give me my money back? Yeah, that makes sense. Why not just not take it from me in the first place?

I agree with the lady who said "Hillary has already been President" for 8 years.
Term limits should apply to the couple, not just the individual."

How American is this stupid comment? This is a country in which each individual matters.

The Harlem vote shows again that the race card is widely open for Obama. Shame on voters.

Think before you vote!
Hillary'08!

Samantha   February 5th, 2008 3:40 pm ET

@ Mark Cross Junction VA

Well how many people do you think are voting against Obama just because of the color of his skin???? PLENTY!!!

Some of the viciousness you see written on these pages about him can only be explained that way.

Seeing as he's done nothing to deserve such vile, nasty, vicious attacks from 'so-called democrats', it's obvious why they respond the way they do.

If you don't like him fine. But to hate him???

There is obviously a lot more going on inside their sad sick heads.

Dennis   February 5th, 2008 3:39 pm ET

I knew I'd find someone that would spout off some nonsense that Obama only has a slogan and no ideas on the page "unlike Hillary." The only thing most people know about Hillary is that she has a health plan. Most couldn't tell you what that health plan is. Most couldn't tell you where she stands on other issues. Oh, and Hillary has allies? Really? Where are they? I haven't seen any of them come out and give her an endorsement lately. Hillary is no more qualified to be President, despite her "35 years of experience," than Obama.

Shon   February 5th, 2008 3:38 pm ET

Hillary will be the first man president we've all been waiting for.

GOBAMA 08   February 5th, 2008 3:37 pm ET

Jay   February 5th, 2008 3:37 pm ET

There's plenty of information on Obama's accomplishments and plans for our country – just because "all you hear is change" does not mean that this is all there is. And I personally know two women that have confided in me that they are voting for Hillary because of the historical significance of voting for a woman, so let's not get into that either.

Lynn in St. Louis is right, supporters of Obama and Clinton need to stop slinging so much mud at each other because they will need each other in November. We need to keep our eyes on the big picture, folks.

Eye Opener - Las Vegas   February 5th, 2008 3:36 pm ET

While it is great that the choice democratic voters have is between two very viable candidates, it is quite alarming that people are voting with their heart and not their heads. Call it what you will but this is scary.
At this very critical time in our country's history where we are faced with major crises from the war in Iraq to the economy, from healthcare to the mortgage meltdown and a looming recession, the american voter really needs to think hard and make that difficult choice.
While I have heard Senator Obama and his platform, I have not heard anything specific to address the issues at hand. Yes, he can bring people together but sometimes, a true leader can only bring about real change with unquestionable experience, the ability to make tough decisions, withstand criticism and still keep focused on the issues for our greater good.
Senator Clinton is that person. Her detractors call her so many things but they lose sight or are refusing to recognize the fact that she has done more than Senator Obama in areas of healthcare, education, defense and economics.
Personalities aside, she is the most capable candidate to lead us out of this mess we are in right now.

GA   February 5th, 2008 3:35 pm ET

No education here...prue stupid.
This says it all
“Hillary has better ideas. I love Bill Clinton,” said Margret Segura. Even so, the retired Harlem resident said she voted for Obama.

BobW Rochester, NY   February 5th, 2008 3:35 pm ET

When it comes to Hillary, I keep thinking about that old Wendy's commercial, "Where's the beef?" She and her supporters tout her experience but what experience are they talking about? She talks the talk but has never walked the walk unless you count working as a corporate lawyer, being first lady of Arkansas and then the president's wife. Obama has had 14 years in the Ill. senate and 3 years in the US senate to Hillary's 7 years in the US senate. Hillary is an accomplished policy wonk who has done some great things for kids but failed her constituents in NY. As part of her valuable experience, she has not pushed through any legislation to save NY jobs, lower our cost of health care and education or to stop our young men and women from going to the war she voted for.

I think I'll support the rookie.

VOTE Obama!

abie   February 5th, 2008 3:34 pm ET

Rob   February 5th, 2008 3:33 pm ET

@ A Texan,
What are you trying to say with your post? Give us examples of how Obama will OBEY the Constitution and other candidates will not. How exactly did he predict the troubles in Iraq, he opposed it yes. We have all been made aware of that many times, but predict the current situation, I think not. Yes he is a U.S. Senator but a very junior one one. What specific experaince does he have in foreign affairs, or military issues? Lets make this blog a place for dicussions not a listing of someones resume bullet points.

Paul GA   February 5th, 2008 3:33 pm ET

A Texan I respect You. Obama certainly may not have as much expireince as Clinton but, isnt the duty of a leader to motivate his or her people? The democrats must know that if they select Clinton as the Nominee they will LOSE the white house. No true Obama supporter will vote for her in November. So this is to the democratic party, "If you want to stop the despicable republicans, (who Senator Obama, has befriended) from getting into the Oval Office again, Obama is your nominee. Obama wil inspire and lift America back to the its former Glory. If you want to have the White house, Vote Obama.

dsw   February 5th, 2008 3:28 pm ET

A vote for Hillary is a vote for McCain, she won't win the general election, she has too much baggage. Obama is the only chance for a democratic president. I also have to note how she never mentioned the word 'change'- niether did Romney or any of the other candidates (besides Edwards) until they saw what an impact Obama was having and how he had tapped into something powerful.

william   February 5th, 2008 3:26 pm ET

Obviously, the Obama voters don't really know why they are voting for him. This article shows me by the empty reason for voting for him.

"Hillary has better ideas" than Obama; but then you vote for Hillary?

This makes no sense.

Also, how quickly some of the people of Harlem forget what the administration of Bill Clinton did for them.

jackie   February 5th, 2008 3:26 pm ET

I have had enough of the Clinton's. There's no way Hillary would rule on her own. Time for a fresh start for the Dem's. Going for intelligence when I vote for Obama.

Zee   February 5th, 2008 3:25 pm ET

Unfortunately basing a vote on Color is holding more weight in Harlem, then using common sense. Hillary far outweighs Obama. Really where did this guy come from, Illinois, Africa, Indonesia, Hawaii???? and what does he really believe in and stand for. I heard his speeches and seen him easily flustered when things aren't going his way, very reminiscent of what we have in office at this time. At lease we all know Hillary can take a licking and keep on ticking. I am a Black Democrat voting for Hillary today and the color of my skin will have nothing to do with it!

Charlotte   February 5th, 2008 3:24 pm ET

How many Obama supporters have been able to ask him a question? He holds RALLYS, not town hall meetings. He has a pulpit to inspire from. He excites from prepared speeches. Has he held a single question and answer event? I'm not talking about debates, I'm talking a group of average people being able to ask him anything? Almost ever event held by Hillary is a question and answer event. When he allows average people to question him, I might be able to support him. Take away the hype and what is left? Anyone who believes he is the answer to their prayers, I would say that depends on what your praying for? If it is gender/race you are blinded by bigotry. We had Rallys in high school to get the students hyped up for the game. That is all I've seen, if someone knows of one event that was not a Rally, please tell me when that happened. Hillary puts herself on the line time and time again, and is asked tough questions. Hillary will be a President who can talk and listen to anybody, anytime, about any topic.

Casey   February 5th, 2008 3:21 pm ET

CNN and the Media Machine against Clinton. They cast 1.6 million to the Bush campaign, and show Blacks voting against Clinton. Dispicable!

Michael   February 5th, 2008 3:20 pm ET

Ms. Brown; Hillary was never the president and it is disturbing that that is the only reason you voted for Obama.

Another comment stated in the article states; "Obama had hugh appeal in the area" and that Hillary "had better ideas", but she votes for Obama.

What are you doing people?

Stop the idiotic voting based on his rock star image. This is not American Idol!

This vote should be taken seriously and not decided on by such ignorant reasons.

We had it good when Bill Clinton was the President, but it is not fair to stop Senator Clinton, because her husband was president.

Sharon   February 5th, 2008 3:18 pm ET

All I hear is the word change thrown around, but I've heard nothing about what that change consists of.....at least Hillary has plans that she has proposed not just a slogan...I will vote for Hillary.

seriously, if obama is nominated, he should pick a woman... my suggestions are Gov Sibelius, or Naplitano (just to mess with McCain in Arizona)

or he could be a latina for a really diverse ticket, but i can't think of anyone popular... jennifer lopez for vp anyone? lol

The risk is high to choose a candidate with less experience but appealing against a candidate who has huge experience and command. I like a asian, african, hispanic, euro-american to be president but not now! America is quite exhausted at this point not to have a experienced and well-allied president like HILLARY CLINTON to mend it from the problems it has been placed into.

Karen   February 5th, 2008 3:15 pm ET

Oh Har, Har, Har CNN. Two enthusiastically vote for Obama, one grudgingly for Clinton.

Lynn in St. Louis   February 5th, 2008 3:14 pm ET

Hillary is the most qualified democrat running for President. Obama is a motivator, but what is behind his speeches? The devil is in the details and Hillary is great with details.

However, let us not forget that for the democrats to defeat the Republicans, ALL democrats should get behind the democratic nominee for President. This not voting for democrats because you don't like the nominee is pure BS and a good way to be forced to live through some more republicans. We're now on the verge of a recession, do we need to be headed for a depression before a democrat bails us out?

Lynne   February 5th, 2008 3:12 pm ET

This goes to show that even though many black democrats may believe that Hillary is more qualified and would do a better job, they feel as though this is a historic opportunity to vote for a viable black candidate. For the first time they feel as if they have the freedom to do so because even if he loses, they'll still have Hillary. The problem with this thinking is that it prolongs the primary battle through March when the delegate-rich states of Texas and Ohio vote, where as republicans will already be coalescing around their nominee.

dsw   February 5th, 2008 3:12 pm ET
