To you who voted for McCain: if he wins the Presidential elections do not whine about the failing economy or the war in Iraq. You had your chance to do something about it and you failed.
Go Mitt "08!

Romney will have 2 things left when the day is done - integrity and 100X the money of McAmnesty or Huckleberry. McCain will dump Huckster when he ceases to be useful to him. Congrats evangelicals, you just handed the nomination to a true blue democrat. I'm a lifelong republican and I will be out of the party when he hits 1,091. I'll vote Paul on the Libertarian ticket or I'll vote Obama, before I vote for a liar.

It is sad that so many of these comments are focused on schoolyard behavior like "My party is better than your party" type mentality and that it comes largely from the far right wing who will only accept someone who parrots every single view they have. Ever heard of compromise? Boy you must be big fun to be around.

It was the divisive behavior of the Bush administration that has put this country at each other's throats. It is precisely this kind of nonsense that has ripped this country apart and will continue to do so if we have someone who cannot cross the aisle and work with both parties in the White House. Do I really need to point out that it was the current Republican administration that took us from a well respected country and no deficit to our current dire financial straits with really poor international relations? Stop acting so superior. You are not. Time to learn to play well with others.

This is why ordinary people can't get in the game. If you don't have millions in the bank or deep pockets to fund you, forget it. The best candidate for the country shouldn't necessarily be the richest.

Maybe all candidates should be required to run on the same funds and let the chips fall where they may.

But investing $35 million dollars to gain a job that pays $400,000/year (or $3.2 million over 8 years) doesn't sound like wise return on investment to me. Sounds like ego instead. Are we sure he'd be prudent in investing our own money?

Remember, Ronald Reagan was just about Mitt's age when he started campaigning for president. it took him two or three times to do it, and look at the outcome. I think Romney's done in this election but should stay on just to pick away at McCain's lead. After a dem wins the White House and we fall into the inevitable recession, we'll look back at our choices today and think about what could have been done differently. I'd like to see Mitt work his magic in Michigan. I'd like to see him fix our economic woes. But given the inevitible backlash against the Bush Administration (nixonian?), the dems have all the fervor and momentum to win office just in time to make a bad situation worse (Carter). If Mitt can learn how to relax the uptight portions of his persona, he'd be able to win over more votes. Indeed, the political landscape both mirrors the past and stinks of the present. We have been avoiding a true recession since the 1970s. What expands must contract. Let a dem be Herbert Hoover.

Rep in MD you hit the nail in the head. McCain is the choice of the Democrats and stands no chance in November. The liberal media has been pushing for him from day one. The Demos and the Media will have a field day with McCain
on several fronts. His Age, his support of Bush on Iraq, but not the tax cuts and whatever else they can throw at him to swing the election to Obama or Clinton.
Romney has a better chance of winning in November, right now, unless the convention is deadlocked, it looks like it will be McVain. with Huckabee as his running mate.

I hope Mitt Romney is out. I know that religion had a big part to play but I believe for good reason. These people belive that the leaders of the mormon church are prophets and if anyone watched the PBS special done earlier last year you saw their "prophet" saying that they had three problems. I forget the third but feminists and educated people were two. Also that they can't question the prophets running the church. How scary is that especially since they are suppose to do everything the prophets say without question? If he is a good mormon then our country would be ruked by his church. I'm glad he suffered a huge blow although I had hoped that if he went far enough the truth about this religion would be brought to light.

Mitt seriously should withdraw at this point. He's trying to run as the "super conservative", but Huckabee is siphoning off his potential base. The Huckabee and McCain combination has to be one of the more recent examples of shrewd political alliances. It's a higher chance of a McCain Huckabee ticket than an Obama-Clinton one.

Double-standard:

--Evangelicals vote for Huckabee at or under 50% and are considered "unfair" and "bigoted" against a Mormon despite obviously spreading their vote out
--Mormons vote for Romney at or near 90% and are considered "objective" and not bigoted against an Evangelical.

A couple of thoughts...

1) A vote for Huckabee is a vote for Huckabee. What makes you think those voters who voted for Huckabee would have picked Romney as their 2nd choice? Romney's problem from the start was that he trashed his rivals in attack ads, then acted hurt when Huckabee/McCain hit back. Huckabee and McCain, whether they are wrong or right, cannot stand Romney... and as a result, I think a lot of their supporters can't stomach him either. As evidenced by the results in West Virginia, Huckabee supporters may very well have all gone to McCain in states like Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee... or at least a decent percentage of them. To continue to say that voting for Huckabee is taking votes away from Romney, it is just wrong! If you looked at the results yesterday across the country, Romney was in THIRD in almost every state! Huckabee would have the more legitimate argument that Romney is stealing votes from him!

2) The whole business about accusing McCain/Huckabee of a backroom WV deal is pathetic, especially coming from a campaign who 24 hours before stated that one of the two rules in politics is "no whining." I am by no means an expert... but if I was a McCain supporter in that room yesterday, and saw that my candidate had no shot to win... it would be a no brainer as to who I would go stand with. It is common sense!!!

3) "Conservatives" who say they refuse to vote for McCain or would vote for Hillary... Seriously... get a grip. You're actually willing to let Hillary pick the next 2-3 Supreme Court Justices? Doubt that. When you realize that McCain has a 100% pro-life voting record, you'll get over your "Next Reagan Wannabe who used to be pro-choice all the way till he was in his fifties" candidate real quick.

The Republican party is such a disaster right now because they courted the freaky Evangelicals. The Evangelical wing of the GOP felt it was their duty to tell people how to live their lives, what to do in the privacy of their own homes and exclude anyone who didn't fit their religious or social profile. Americans simply don't like to be told what to do by Big Brother. The Republican party will continue to hemorage until it gets back to its Libertarian roots. Small government, civil liberties, property rights and a balanced budget are the only thing that will attract new voters to the Republican party. Nixon, Ford and Barry Goldwater are rolling in their graves because they certainly know that GOP is reaping what it sowed.

Dear Anti- Mormon tricksters. If it wasn't for you Mitt Romney might be our next President of the United States of America!
If you only knew that Mitt has a Testimony that Joseph Smith was a Prophet and that God told Joseph face to face in the "First Vision" that all of Christendom was an abomination in his sight, that they are ALL corrupt and in the employ of the Devil to blind the minds of mankind to the ONLY true way to Heaven (Mormonism,as taught in the Sacred Temple for 150+ years prior to 1990), you would vote for Elder Mitt Romney for President and come out of Christendom, become Mormons and live happily ever after!!!
This is a Fact, not Fiction.

Romney is not my candidate, and is not about 60% of other republican's candidate either. For the republicans to have a chance in nov., we need someone who is moderate. There are too many brittle, right wing republicans who would rather take their ball home, cry to mommy, and lose instead of working with someone who mostly agrees with them, but doesn't kowtow to every single right winger out there.

I don't see McCain as president. I don't trust him. And Huckabee thinks too much of himself. Don't see how Mitt can pull it out but if there is even the slightess chance then by all means hang in there! Go Mitt!

I think whoever wins (Dem or Rep) in November should appoint Romney to a high-level economic advisory position. I don't trust the guy, but he can handle money pretty well.

What ever happened to men of true character? Men which build strong communties by building on common beliefs instead of the "you're wrong, I'm right"! attitude. What happened to the example of our forefathers who established such a strong nation for "US" to be free but united in one cause. Their example is evident by the great nation that was established. It is called the "UNITED" States for a reason. Slowly and slowly this great country is going down hill by corrupt politicians who seek to get power & wealth, which will canker the nation. Politicians who only please the ears of the american people, but are not steady in their doings. Through a great deal of skepticism we must go through in order to choose the right candidate. How often do we actually see todays politicians in action?, how often do we see their true character?. We can't judge a politician according to their charm and smile while on camera or in public. What are they like behind the walls of their own homes? What are their true intentions? we certainly can't be a judge of what we don't really know. Majority of us only hear about them through television, news papers, or some elses opinion based on warped judgement. Who is the media in favor of? Are we really hearing the truth? How can the American people choose the right candidate? Who can we trust? what makes a nation is what happens behind the walls of our own homes. We must unite in one cause, rather than constanly attack, which is such a repulsive attitude which breaks the spirit of unity.

LETS TRY THIS AGAIN. I'VE BEEN IN MODERATION FOREVER!!!!

DAVE;

I will not rip apart anything you said about the state of our economy, but, our economy wouldn't be so bad if our current President hadn't launched a preemptive war against Iraq. Iraq at the time was not an imminent threat to us. Yes, I agree that Saddam needed to be dealt with but it could have been put on the back burner so we could have complete success in Afghanistan and maybe we could have captured or killed Osama Bin Laden since it has been 6+ years since 9/11. The war is only one contributor to our economic problems, there are many. Take our trade policies. Manufacturing job losses (many under Clinton) but manufacturing jobs have left in droves under Bush and both the Repub and Dem Congress. You see math doesn't lie, when you replace good/high paying jobs with low paying service sector jobs there is less Federal, SSA and Medicare taxes being paid into our government. People are earning less money. Now, to discuss the "ENTITLEMENT GENERATION". Hmmm, I don't know how old you are but I've been paying into SSA for 34 years. I do believe that I should get the benefits I have been promised since I have paid money into SSA for that long of a period of time. I also believe that your generation should reap the same benefits; in future dollars of course. You see if we still had manufacturing jobs paying a decent/living wage then we wouldn't have the ratio of 3-4 (or more) people paying in to support 1 persons benefits. I certainly wouldn't rely on privatizing SSA since both our generations are going to have problems retiring on 401(k)'s relying on the stock market. My question to our politicians is: If 401(k)'s are really that good, how come they don't have it, they have pensions paid for by you guessed it; the taxpayer! I don't think your beef should be with us Boomers. I think you should take a 2nd look at Corporate America. You see, to me, I think our CEO's are the entitlement crowd. Too many of them believe they are entitled to own $7000.00 plus shower curtains. They also receive Golden Parachutes whether they do a good job for the company or not. Even if they run the company into the ground.

First, Mitt creeps everyone out, second it IS about him being a Mormon, they might as well worship flying monkeys. Come on people these Mormons are just as bizzare as Scientologists, in fact their space theories are very similar. Anyone who could be a Mormon cannot be trusted to live in the real world and the Romneys are mucky mucks in the "church'. I would have no problem voting for a Muslum, Christian, or Atheist, but I will not vote for a Mormon. Kinda nice to hear someone actually say it isn't it.

To Johnny Lawless-

It does not surprise me nor scare me that Romney got 90% of Utah's vote. He saved the 2002 Winter Olympics from financial ruin which would have left the State holding the bag for over a billion dollars of total costs. He is a hero to them. And it is not all just because he is Mormon, which I'm sure you are trying to imply. The fact is that Ronald Regan got 90% of Utah in the general election when he was reelected, and Regan was not Mormon. Wyoming gave Romney 67%, and only 10% of the people there are Mormon. Most canidates did not go to either state.

What does scare me is the fact that so many people refuse to even consider Romney just because he is Mormon. Plenty of people consider Obama even though he is black, and Hillary even though she is a woman- a generation ago, neither would have stood a chance so we are progressing as a tolerant society. At least the Democrates can say they are progressing, but too many Republicans are as bigoted as ever. And that is why they will loose in November, no matter what the ticket looks like.

Funny....

John McCain wins big....
and the DOW drops 370 points.

Huckabee wins southern states...
and they get hit by killer twisters.

Well, glad your mind and heart are doing good over this mess...Mitt was the only chance we had of getting this economy straightened out. So, looks like we'll be in for a very rough four years as none of the meatheads left have any expertise in this area. In the long run, it's only the American people that will loose out. Mitt, as you pointed out, will have no problem, he's pretty set financially. The rest of us, however, not so much. So, great job America! Way to show him!

I am so frustrated with people talking about Romney switching positions and changing his mind about things. Honestly, educate yourselves. I can tell you that I truly believe that on a personal level Romney has always been pro-life. The flip-flopping that everyone keeps bringing up is a result of the ability Mitt has to work with democrats and find a middle ground. He is intelligent enough to study all of the information and make an educated decision. His decisions are not solely based on what others tell him he should do. To me, it is a sign of a great man to admit that maybe what was a good idea then may not be a good idea now.
As far as the vote in Utah goes and the statements regarding Mormons only voting for Mitt etc... Mormons only make up 65%of Utah so exactly where did the other votes come from? Here's some reality for those that can stand it, those in Utah know that Mitt is a moral honest guy who literally saved the olympics. How much money did the man who so many of you are saying is obsessed with money get paid for it? $1.00, yes one dollar. Is it that America is so corrupt that we are more willing to vote for a man who has suggested we put all AIDS patients in isolation(huckabee), or who is known for violent outbursts and left his wife for a younger woman, than we are to a successful father of five who has been happily married for a long time. And no I do not live in Utah, and I am ashamed to say that I am a republican because I am truly disappointed in my party.

I've been very naive to think America would actually want someone who is successful and smart in the white house.

MITT did us a HUGE favor by seeking to serve this country as President. We need a WINNER in the white house. Not a lying, angry old man who cheated on his disabled wife and married a young wealthy heiress. What kinds of morals are those!?? And certainly not a squirrel-frying, bigoted, fake, either. Of course, neither of them can beat the Dems anyway.

I'm sick that American can't see we're losing our best hope. The best man by far. MITT!

When did conservatives become outright flaming idiots? I always thought they were smart, pragmatic folks. So when a couple knuckleheaded conservatives on this board (Beth from Arkansas and Robert from Alabama to name a couple) say they'll sit home in Nov. and NOT vote if McCain is the GOP nominee, the GOP will deserve what it gets when Billary nominates three (yes, count them conservatives, THREE) Supreme Court Justices. The first one being Bill Clinton.

So if you are a true, smart, pragmatic conservative, you will vote for anyone on the GOP ticket just so Billary or Obama Bin Laden don't get in office a F up this great country of ours. You think the term "distribution of wealth" is just a catch-phrase? Wait until these two jokers get a chance at turning America into a European subsidiary. Just sit at home in Nov. and feel all good about you and your stupid F-ing "conservative principles" while the Court goes Hyper-left and the country goes Socialist. Nice job you idiots!!

Get out and vote GOP!!!!! Or suffer the consequences!!!!!

It’s unfortunate that so many Americans vote based on identity rather than the issues. Reading the comments here, I see that most of you have identified with the candidates based on their religion, race, sex, and personality. Huckabee is a great person, but is not a leader. McCain will be the candidate that gets the US involved in a nuclear war; I can say that with confidence, just look at his dedication to military and temper, a recipe for disaster. The democrats are encouraging a lazy America, where I could get fired from my job, get paid under-the-table, and be better off than when I was working and paying taxes legitimately. Romney has the skills and experience to advance our economy, make the US more favorable in the world view, and provide much needed reform to education and healthcare. It’s time we stop being so short sided, and take a look into these candidates and realize that electing the right president, first by nominating the right candidates, is the most important decision we could ever make. The US will be a completely different place in 4 years based on the Candidate we elect, so take a real good look at what you’re vote is going towards.

The only reason the conservative talking heads and right wing puppet masters want Romney instead of McCain is because they know they can manipulate Romney. He'll be George W Bush 2.0 Wow that's scary to write or even think about. Romney is yet another rich, legacy case who feels entitled to the Presidency, doesn't relate to the common person and one who the Republican party would love to run as a "Washington outsider". Which really is good for a laugh because Romney's father was a US governor and ran for President. What sort of outsider does that make Mitt, who was a US governor himself? It all sounds too familiar and well a majority of us would agree the 1st time around the GOP used this storyline/candidate it resulted in a nightmare. Romney will say and do whatever he thinks people want to hear and judging from the election results poor Mitt has proved himself pretty out of touch. His message is insincere and his motives selfish. Romney has had a chance to make his case. NO ONE IS BUYING IT! Finishing 3rd in the Republican primary process is like finishing 5th overall b/c both Democratic candidates have received more votes this year than any of the Republicans. Goodbye Mr. Romney, hello President Obama!

The reason Mitt had 90% of the vote in Utah is not simply because he's Mormon. 1) Utah is a very conservative state and Mitt is the conservative candidate. 2) He did wonders for the olympics in Utah. 3) Because there are so many Mormons in Utah, they were not biased against him because of his religion. If more of America was comfortable with Mormons, then more conservatives would have looked past Mitt's religion and seen that he was the strongest candidate.

Romney took 90% of Utah for obvious reasons: A) It's Mormon Land, B) He saved the Olympics and C) it has a population of 10. Romney got knocked out by the same kind of punches he threw. There was no one any more shrewd on the GOP side than Romney. He called McCain's misquotes 'dirty tricks' but he was just as tenacious and established the negative style early. He teed off Huckabee with his attacks and is now whinning about an alliance.

Romney was the closest candidate to Bush in the GOP and I'm glad he's been wounded by the same political sword he wielded. He's contrived, calculative, and disingenuous.

Good night and good luck!!!1

I did the math. Whatever happens, as of today, Mitt has the support of over 3,400,000 people. McCain can't shut us all up nor can he "convert" us. He has a personal vendetta with Romney and as a Romney supporter, that means he has a personal vendetta against me. I hope Romney can get another debate with McCain and Huckabee. I would love to see McCain blow his stack. It's just a matter of time. If you all saw a glimmer of angst during any of the Republican debates, just want to see what happens against one of the Democrats. McCain's campaign will implode. I can't wait.
