Clinton pokes fun at her flawed fashion

WASHINGTON (CNN) - In the latest edition of Us Weekly hitting newsstands Friday, Hillary Clinton accompanies the celebrity magazine on a “greatest hits” tour of her past fashion faux-pas.

In a playfully-mocking four-page spread titled “My Worst Outfit Ever,” Clinton addresses some of her more debatable wardrobe choices during her life.

Clinton dodged blame for the striped pants she wore in the 1960’s, claiming "It's not my fault… It was the '60s." She also promoted her environmental policy while considering the massive, brightly-colored overcoat she wore at a Feed the Children event in New York City in 2000. "I'm a big believer in recycling – even carpets!” she said.

The spread might irk Vogue editor Anna Wintour, who last month railed the New York senator for backing out of a fashion shoot at the last minute.

Wintour accused Clinton of ditching the shoot out of fear of public perception. "We were told by Ms. Clinton's camp that they were concerned if Clinton appeared in Vogue that she would appear too feminine,” Wintour is quoted as saying. She added that “the notion that a contemporary woman must look mannish in order to be taken seriously as a seeker of power is frankly dismaying… This is America, not Saudi Arabia.”

Get a sense of humor people! I don't think anyone making a comment even saw the series. It was a historical look at the odd outfits she wore. She is in dresses, shorts and a hysterical pair of stripped pants.

Just Obama supporters sniping again. If it was Obama over the years they would be lapping it up.

In regards to Sam's comment, maybe for the same reason you don't see Scottish men still wearing their historical attire. Skirts are not comfortable, require a higher heeled shoe, and restrict the freedom of movement. All of these are very good reasons. The same reasons I don't wear skirts, most especially in the work environment.

I personally think Hillary, of late, has been maintaining a professional and attractive appearance.

I salute her for her tongue-in-cheek attitude about her past style. Oh yeah, I wear headbands when I'm working too. It's amazing how well they keep your hair out of your eyes.

I, for one, am glad to see Hillary letting loose a little. With how much the corporate media and the right portrayed her as a stuck-up , it's good to see she's finally letting herself relax in the public eye. That's what America needs to see more of, politicians showing they're just like everyone else (just with more money, lol).

    HILLARY '08!

Although it's funny, how sad to see that Hillary, an accomplished, intelligent woman running for president, has to participate in these kinds of softening things to show that she's not too powerful, thus acceptable. Haven't women come farther than this?

Why is this even a topic? I don't recall reading any article on a male candidate's fashion concern or lack thereof.

Wile i was writing this i have cnn on the tv.In the last half hour or so i herd cnn reporters say about five different things about Hillary Clinton and Bill Clinton to try and hurt her chances for the democratic nomination.I think Wolf and other cnn journalist should apologize to Hillary and Bill Clinton for the constant attacks.I also think this should be considered as slander.

Clinton voted for the McCain-Feingold campaign finance legislation in 2002, and nevertheless has 20 lobbyist-bundlers aiding her campaign, according to the Public Citizen report.

Very respectful Hillary... Is this how you will see everyone if you become the president. Why would you even mention another country's name?... obviously to belittle them.

The biggest problem being that no matter how you dress her up, she could never appear in my eyes as authentic or honest. She's tried to fool us with so many versions of herself, donned so many different masks and had so many lame explanations for what she meant to say, she comes across as neither mannish or feminine but just all out fake!

Fashion can't cure what the creator didn't give ya, Hilly. That would be integrity, character, truthfulness, equanimity and dignity. Need I go on? I dare anyone to find a sentence in print where any of these words can be found accompanying the Clinton name.

Sam, when Hillary's hips were smaller, she wore skirts. Since her body changed I have to agree, that in a skirt suit all eyes will be on her hips. And if you think the press is cruel on her laugh, imagine if they had a go at her hips...

I think her worst fashion faux-pas was voting to authorize the use of force in Iraq.

Just like striped pants in the '60s, everybody was doing it, and just like striped pants, it was stupid then and it's stupid now.

I agree with the above who notes that no matter what article it is, or what it says, the Obama supporters spew vile hatred towards Clinton. That's is "change" indeed, but not for the better.

Perhaps there are FINALLY less articles about Obama, because how many times can you talk about "change" without defining it anymore?
