Edwards meeting with Clinton, Obama on endorsement

Sens. Clinton and Obama, and former Sen. Edwards before the CNN Democratic debate in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

(CNN) — CNN has learned that former Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards met with Hillary Clinton Thursday in North Carolina, and is meeting with Barack Obama Monday, to discuss a possible primary endorsement.

The Thursday meeting, which took place at Edwards’ home in Chapel Hill, was followed by a Saturday night session during which the former North Carolina senator and several longtime advisers discussed many issues, including which candidate he should endorse.

The Obama campaign is enjoying a weekend of positive news, after winning four contests in Louisiana, Washington, Nebraska, and Maine. An endorsement by Edwards would provide additional momentum going into the next round of primaries.

At a Chapel Hill party yesterday for Edwards supporters, he gave no indication who he might endorse, or whether that endorsement is imminent. Some advisers are encouraging him not to endorse.

The former candidate is weighing a number of considerations before making his choice – including electability, and who will best promote his ideas.

There are policy considerations at play: there is a sense within the Edwards camp that Clinton's policies could be better for working class Americans. But Obama's anti-lobbyist proposals are more aligned with Edwards’ politics.

In response to a CNN report that Elizabeth Edwards may favor Obama over Clinton, sources close to the Edwards family flatly deny that she favors one candidate over the other.

I was and remain a fan of Edwards, and to me, his endorsement must depend on the war more than anything else. Military spending and tax cuts for the rich are endangering the economy and the prospects for helping the poor more than anything else. And the war is immoral. Edwards and Obama are more closely aligned on their lack of support for the war. I hope Edwards does not endorse anyone for a few months, at least, but I think endorsing Clinton should not be an option as she has been so ambiguous about this unjust and expensive charade of a war.

Clinton is the ONLY ONE supporting your UNIVERSAL health care. (Health care is not universal unless everyone has it).

    Help get it through...JOIN HILLARY!

Talk is cheap and everyone will be disappointed in the end if Obama is the nominee. If everyone around you wanted to jump off a cliff, would you follow??

Edwards will and should definitely endorse Obama.

You always want to move in the direction of the peoples needs. If the people want Obama, I am sure Edwards understands why.

MY HOPE IS THAT SEN EDWARDS WILL ENDORSE SEN OBAMA. THE VERY THOUGHT OF 30 YEARS OF BUSH-CLINTON-CLINTON-BUSH-BUSH-CLINTON-CLINTON IS ENOUGH TO KILL ALL HOPE OF CHANGE. YEARS OF SCANDALS, POLITICAL CIVIL WAR, AND LEADERSHIP BY THE LATEST POLL HAS GOT TO END. OUR MORAL IS AS LOW AS IT HAS EVER BEEN IN MY LIFETIME. WE NEED A NEW, ALL NEW DIRECTION.

UNIVERSAL HEALTH CARE IS COMING NO MATTER WHO THE NEXT PRESIDENT IS. WE NEED SOMEONE WHO HAS THE TRUST OF ALL/OR AT LEAST MOST AMERICANS.

PLEASE! WE NEED TO STOP THE ENDLESS FIGHTING AND PUT OUR ENERGY INTO REBUILDING OUR COUNTRY BEFORE IT IS TO LATE.

Edwards should endorse Hillary. Hillary should nominate him for Attorney General. What a winning combination...ah and if obama wants to join them then he can be vice president for 8 years, perhaps then he can learn "HOW TO" become a president and not just talk about it.

Who cares about anti-lobbyist money and electability. This is about the issues and policies of the candidates people. John Edwards would betray all the people and issues he fought so hard for if he chose not to endorse Hillary Clinton and jumped on the Obama Bandwagon.

Obama is getting all this praise and endorsments most of it unwarranted because it's the in thing to do and Obama is cool or he is likable. Who cares about all that crap. This is not American Idol. This is the office of the presidency. John Edwards, everything you worked so hard for...the issues the poor and disenfranchised would suffer dearly if you endorsed Obama and not Clinton. Obama is the candidate for the media, celebs and elists. Not for the regular people. Those celebs won't suffer if Obama messes up. We will. I don't care about who takes or does not take lobbysist money. And I believe Obama does especially from ex lobbyists and the spouses of lobbyists. It's the same crap. This election should have only been about the issues and policies of the candidates. It should have never gone this far into a popularity contest. This election is just wrong and is extremely disturbing to me and to many other people.

No matter what anyone says Obama has no chance of winning the election against McCain. I don't believe he has a snowballs chance in you know where fo winning. Hillary is a stronger opponent and the republicans know it. That is why they are willing to fight so hard for the White House. The Republicans know Obama will be easy to take down. Too many negatives for him that the dems just can't see now. Republicans will smear him so easily and he will fall from grace. The bigger they are the harder they fall.

John Edwards has to vote for Hillary because of Universal Health Care. Also he knocked Obama for not voting on congressional issues for at least 100 different issues.

If there is a God above watching. Pray Edwards votes for Hillary.

We can't afford to select a Rookie.

We don't know what we have with this man. He's has no experience with government issues we are facing.

He's not for the poor. We know that. The polls on CNN says that.

Let the Democrats win with a person that knows what she's talking about.

    Obama has empty promises.

The only change he's forseeing is a Black President.

And why is Edwards' endorsement so critical? His anti-corporate, angry populism is not in need of representation by either Billary or Obama. He is a bottom-feeder trial lawyer who just needs to retire.

I sure hope that John Edwards does not endorse Obama..
I have spent all day reading today, I have yet a clear picture of
anything that this man has done...so he wrote a book, he first
voted in the Senate in March of 2005, is that possible? That is
the extent of his political career? And...he's running for President?

What is wrong with the people in this country that they
are persuaded by a bunch of dreams and ideals... none of
which have ever been acted upon by this man?

I am starting to get a picture here of someone with almost
no experience who is being pushed onward by some sort
of "cult" type hype from the Internet..

    I am shocked and concerned...

I guess if you can "talk the talk" you can just about persuade anyone
    of anything.....

Edwards is too late, he should of come out before Super Tuesday. He's been gone a long time in the world of politics. He wasted his endorsement by not doing it sooner.

The CNN political team keeps saying this presidential contest is not about race, but it is quite apparent from most of the team's commentary that they keep playing the race card in all of their comments. I also do not feel that coverage of the two democratic candidates is equal. It is quite evident that this is an Obama newsteam.

as a former Edwards supporter who voted for Obama on February 5th, I would love to see him endorse Obama. Hillary Clinton offers us only a slightly better vision of the future than do the Raepublicans. Barack Obama is the future. The contrast between young, vibrant Obama and old warmonger McCain will make this a much easier victory for the Dems. Can't fathom Hillary adding states that Kerry didn't win in 2004; I can however see Obama doing this.

Edwards best bet is to back Clinton if he ever wants to be President in the future .
It's quite evident that the afroamerican communty forgot who surported them in the past , Obama is an exciting candidate but when the vote is 70-80% this clearly is a prejudicial vote.

Actually I have heard reliable rumor of Gore enorsing Hillary. Main complaint is the junior senator Obama has no experiance in several main issues.

Facts and opinions gathered on the net.

Hey Obama please release the following documents please:
    - Your Columbia University Transcripts. (has refused so far)
    - A list of your friends, roommates and bosses during your time in New York. By the way this is required for a security clearance. (has refused so far)
    - Documents regarding your time in the Illinois Senate. (Obama refused and now says the documents were lost)
    - The documents concerning your house purchase and the purchase of the lot next door and the subsequent purchase of part of that lot by you.
    - A document showing how you handled the "gift" from Rezcko on your house purchase. (If not on your tax return during the year you purchased your house then you have violated federal law?
    - A list of the people who have bundled your contributions, including any money from overseas sources.
    - A transcript of the conversations that you had as a sitting U.S. Senator with Railla Odinga while he was running for the presidency of foreign government( Kenya).
    - An explanation of your wherabouts during the period Nov 3 through Nov 8, 1999, while a State Senator from Illinois.
It seems lots of folks make judgment without researhing information first. Senator Clinton made lots of money on her book...and is still recieving royalties. She was paid over 8 million and certainly has other resources. The deal with the uranium mine...if you had done your research..would have shown President Clinton said ..no..to any involvment. That is the part the press doesnt tell. Check out Media Matters. I dont think most of Hillary's supporters realized she was short of money...and once they knew...the donations came in. Senator Obama asks for donations all the time. Senator Clinton and her husband never recieved any money from Rezko. Senator Obama's main contributor from the beginning of his career has been Rezko. Rezko also has close ties with Auchi...who has been found guilty by of deals relating to nuclear plants in Iraq. That makes Obama three times removed from that situation. Auchi is the reason Rezko is in jail now...due to flight risk. Check sites out about Rezko. Rezko also contributed funds to George W Bush. You can say...well...Clintons' had Hue. Some differences....Hue got his money from big investors. Obama got his money from misuse of taxpayers funds. Rezko said he couldnt pay for the heat in the buildings in Chicago. People going without heat in a Chicago winter? Chicago gets cold. During that time...Rezko gives a thousand dollars to Obama for his political career. I find it hard to believe that Obama didnt know about these conditions in his district...when the City Of Chicago was taking Rezko to court for this. Obama wrote a letter of recommendation for Rezko to get funding for his housing. Those letters are available to see at a website ...taylor marsh. They have government heading on them. You cant tell me that Obama didnt know that Rezko was under federal investigation when he go a deal with him to buy his house. Check it out. Senator Obama hasnt been that honest about all of this.

Come on sheeple this is BIG media and the republican walking you into a trap. Edwards supporters it was BIG media that made him have to drop out. It is BIG media that gives Obama legs with there love fest. We are being divided. He is a good speaker, but when the lights fade and the arena empties the good speker will be all alone. Do the research people. Don’t be tricked again.
