Major union nod for Obama

(CNN) - One of the country’s biggest unions - the United Food and Commercial Workers Union - voted Thursday to endorse Barack Obama.

Obama’s Democratic opponent, Hillary Clinton, had also hoped for the union’s nod.

The union, which has more than a million members, is very active in Ohio and Texas - both contests the Clinton campaign is counting on to help her regain momentum in the Democratic presidential race.

It is also very strong in Pennsylvania, another major contest looming on the horizon, and is a major force in voter turnout in all three states.

The union represents workers in the meatpacking industry, in supermarkets and food processing.

Awesome endorsement!!! Hillary is going all out to try and take away from Barack Obama. She appears desperate. Obama will be great for this country. I am from PA–don't count us out!!! Go Obama!!!

This is great for Barack Obama. The endorsement adds to his momentum and increases his strength in some important key states. Meanwhile, the Clintons become desperate.. Hillary is using her daughter to campaign for her while she attacks Barack Obama. The people are tired of these kinds of politics Hillary!

  4. Keeping it real

Political pundits will do their level best to minimize Obama. Thank goodness people are starting to pay attention to the so-called "promise based rhetoric" by Barack Obama. He has articulated his place on the issues and put together very detailed policy ideas based on current and projected circumstances. This huge union has taken notice to what most folks who have voted in the democratic party's primaries have come to know. Barack Obama is the way to go this election cycle. With their influence and trust throughout the state of Ohio, in Texas and even Pennsylvania, many more people who were leaning towards Hillary will at the very least take a second look. Here recently that has been all that was needed to turn in lopsided victories for Barack Obama. It really doesn't how you look at it, the longer you take to check the guy out the more you loike him. Clinton and her closest backers have looked at him nine ways to Sunday and it hasn't mattered one bit. More support him than do Hillary. The voters have proved that time and time again.

Not a big deal. Individual members will vote their hearts - just like they did in Nevada.

Lol another nail to Hillary's coffin. It's over Hillary, get out. No one likes you. Do the world a favor and just disappear and never show your face again.

Obama got endorsements in Nevada and still lost the caucus—these unions endorsements are meaningless…Hill should keep her focus—she pull it off again

I have seen politics in the USA for the past 40 years and in Mexico for the past 20. I had never seen someone go after his or her opponent like Hillary is going after Barack, and believe me this is what I call desperate mouthing politician. Let`s talk about issues, ideas, answers to today`s problems but don`t give us this issue that you are ready to become president and the others are not. Look at Ronald Reagan, everyone said that a movie actor could never be a president of our country and what happened. ONE OF THE BEST ECONOMICS IN OUR HISTORY. Bill of course just got a carbon copy of that.
I have seen dirty and bad poltics everywhere but Hillary is showing what we say in Mexico (SON PATADAS DE AHOGADA) she is kicking and drowing herself. (or something like that) In other words, this is frustration that nothing is working out for her. If she wouldn`t be so arrogant and just go straight to her game plan maybe JUST maybe she could do better. Yes we need a change in our country and BAD. and is never too late to start from scratch. We need young people, we need young blood not the same old politicians of all time. As far as defending our country, I believe every president whoever is in the white house will defend our country and make no mistake on that.

Obama is showing something that people is urged to have a CHANGE and I think we are ready no matter what the color of skin or religion or gender is the person. But not the way Hillary is playing. If this is the way she is going to play in the white house MY GOD let`s everybody start praying. Us in Texas will vote for you Barack.

You got a Texan living in Mexico but will vote on march 4th.

saludos from south of the border.

This is nothing more than union leadership playing politics. UFCW members, much like their NV Culinary Workers brethern, will vote for the candidate who actually has a track record of supporting working men and women...Hillary.

Union endorsement or no endrosement, OBAMA is going down!

What did all these endorsements get OBAMA in Nevada? LOSS!

Look, the regular union member knows that HILLARY'S PLANS and her ABILITY far exceeds OBAMA's, and OBAMA's record with Unions is SCANT!!!

That is why MAJORITY of UNION MEMBERS CONTINUE TO VOTE FOR HILLARY!

Obama is HOT AIR, and nothing else!

    Vote for SUBSTANCE

    Vote for HILLARY '08!!!

PS: Union members and Hillary supporters, please don't forget to go contribute at her website! I have a personal commitent to contribute AT LEAST $25/week until she wins the nomination and beyond!
Let's STAND WITH HILLARY. She is our best hope of SOLVING our nation's problems. OBAMA is ALL TALK and NO SUBSTANCE! Open your eyes people, HE HAS NO RECORD TO BACK HIS RHETORIC!

Don't worry about it Hillary - you're way ahead in Texas & Ohio. Go Hillary! And, if you don't get the nomination, Go McCain!!

Lets remeber that the endorsement in Nevada happed 3 days before the caucus. These endorsements come 2 weeks before the primary, big diiference.

    Women for Obama!

    February 14, 2008 07:38 pm at 7:38 pm |
  25. Oh Please...

Just because the union top officials support him, doesn't mean that the members do. My company supports McCain, does that mean I support him? Hell no!!!!!

Whoever is writing these articles need to stop and think before hitting publish. After all, wasn't it Nevada's largest union who supported Obama, and ahmmm...didn't he lose?

Lastly, wasn't it Kerry and Kennedy who supported him too, and he lost in their state?

That said, endorsement is just that endorsement, not a trump card.
