Edwards and Obama before the Des Moines Register debate in December.
Edwards and Obama before the Des Moines Register debate in December.

CNN's Candy Crowley reports that former Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards met with Barack Obama today at Edwards' home in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Hillary Clinton also met with Edwards at his home recently.

Both Obama and Clinton are seeking the endorsement of the former North Carolina senator.

Just over one week ago, Edwards met with several of his longtime advisers for a Saturday night session during which they discussed many issues, including which candidate he should endorse.

Obama spokesman Bill Burton confirmed the meeting with Edwards on Sunday. "Sen. Obama visited this morning with John and Elizabeth Edwards at their home in Chapel Hill to discuss the state of the campaign and the pressing issues facing American families," said Burton.

EDWARDS IS NOT A FOOL. HE WILL ENDORSE EITHER NO ONE OR HILLARY CLINTON.

kevin from alaska   February 17th, 2008 4:24 pm ET

Stay out of it, John.

Obamacan too   February 17th, 2008 4:27 pm ET

Why is this news?!?! So what…..stop wasting our time CNN. Talk to me when Edwards has endorsed somebody. Thanks.

Patty   February 17th, 2008 4:28 pm ET

One can only hope that Edwards can resist the razzle-dazzle and do what is best for this country. Endorsing Obama is the easy thing to do, endorsing Hillary is the right thing to do.

Texas For Hillary   February 17th, 2008 4:36 pm ET

Senator Edwards, PLEASE DO NOT ENDORSE OBAMA. He doesn't share the same views as you. Hillary Clinton and you are the Dream Team!!!! Endorse Hillary and you will not regret it.

Miss K   February 17th, 2008 4:37 pm ET

How nice that Obama FINALLY found the time to meet with John Edwards!

I think we all know Edwards could make or break this primary election.

Hawaii Dems   February 17th, 2008 4:44 pm ET

Anyone else think an Obama/Edwards ticket would be a winner?

TX Voter   February 17th, 2008 4:47 pm ET

Too bad ABCnews reported this story last week - Edwards wants to endorse Clinton

Pat   February 17th, 2008 4:47 pm ET

Here we go again with CNN bias, another Obama article, four straight articles about Obama. How obvious can you be, nothing like equality with your network, it's getting old and rather disgusting.

egc52556   February 17th, 2008 4:51 pm ET

Drum roll…. the envelope please… and the endorsement goes to…….

dms   February 17th, 2008 4:54 pm ET

I am so hoping John Edwards endorses HILLARY because her campaign message more closely resembles his. She has helped the poor so much over the years, already getting health care for poor children, for our National Guard, etc.

She would make a wonderful PRESIDENT, ready to begin on day one.

Trev   February 17th, 2008 4:56 pm ET

Since most Edwards voters were blue collar workers, I think he will endorse Hillary (if anyone). Makes more sense because Hillary has a better plan to help the poor.

cindy   February 17th, 2008 4:57 pm ET

Senator Edward should endorse Senator Hillary cause she can deliver and I just don't trust Senator Obama, I think he's just about making history instead of care about what he said. And one more thing I don't like the fact when he refer to this Country America it's USA.
Cindy

Matthew   February 17th, 2008 4:57 pm ET

Obama - Edwards sounds like a good ticket this coming Nov. to me. I can't see him hitching his wagon to HRC…

Arizona Latino Voter   February 17th, 2008 4:58 pm ET

Great the meeting happened! Question: is leaving 15 million Americans behind on health care right on day one? If Edwards' endorses Obama he'd be dealing a blow to the work of his lifetime as so many would be left out of health care.

Crystal in CA   February 17th, 2008 4:58 pm ET

I like Edwards, but he looking like more of an opportunist these days than someone who is serious about endorsing the best candidate.

I get this feeling with Mitt Romney as well, because I think most people know his ego is way too big to just fall in line behind McCain and not get nothing out of it.

Joe   February 17th, 2008 4:59 pm ET

I like Obama, and I will vote for him if he wins the nomination, BUT

I am still sticking with Hillary Clinton.

Lynda West Chester, PA   February 17th, 2008 5:00 pm ET

That's the ticket!

samsam   February 17th, 2008 5:01 pm ET

edward should not endrose obama.

elly   February 17th, 2008 5:02 pm ET

Sen.Obama does not speak of the same issues John Edwards has claimed are in his heart. Hillary Clinton is speaking out on behalf of the voiceless and if John Edwards wants to appear sincere about his issues he will endorse Hillary Clinton. Otherwise, I'm afraid he will appear to be more concerned with popular rhetoric than action. He needs to put his money where his mouth is.

Susan   February 17th, 2008 5:02 pm ET

Funny, I don't recall the CNN bothered to make it a headline when Sen. Clinton met with Edwards. Bias again?

Cindy in Boston   February 17th, 2008 5:03 pm ET

I will be very happy if Edward will finally endorse Senator Obama because two of them have the same agenda…

Lisa   February 17th, 2008 5:07 pm ET

Barack talks about change, change what? Does anyone even know his plans on health care, foreign policy, or domestic issues? He a great speaker but that's about it, he talks a lot about nothing.

JonhQ   February 17th, 2008 5:24 pm ET

Is John Edwards still relevant? Can he endorse Hillary after calling her part of the status quo on National TV? I think he should not endorse anyone. Let people decide on their own. Same thing goes for the super delegates. Stop endorsing. Let voters decide and go with whoever gets more pledge delegates

Sarah from Illinois   February 17th, 2008 5:25 pm ET

Why haven't you reported on John Glenn's endorsement of Hillary Clinton? If he had endorsed Obama, we would not hear the last of it from you. Why so bias, CNN?

CO   February 17th, 2008 5:31 pm ET

Edwards is too smart for Omama rhoetic!

aj   February 17th, 2008 5:35 pm ET

Joe Ossai, Bedford, NH   February 17th, 2008 6:16 pm ET

Sorry Edward we love you, but you are no longer relevant to the success of the Obama campaign.

Take your 26 delegates with you, bye

Diego   February 17th, 2008 6:17 pm ET

Edwards is going to endorse Clinton

America   February 17th, 2008 6:21 pm ET

Edwards should back Hillary, it's a no brainer why she's better, America has never lost hope, America has never stoped believing, Obama talks a good game and is a good entertainer, but he lacks the substance that even Edwards has. The media likes to put their spin on things and yet they have'nt even called into question Obamas record as a state legislature. Edwards has been around long enough to know Obama as president means extensive on the job training. We can't afford this in these trying days and times.

Chris   February 17th, 2008 6:21 pm ET

John Edwards and all of the so called super delegates should keep quiet until they see a definite front runner. I have lost a great deal of respect for the super delegates who are coming out far too early in this race. The DNC needs to get a grip and stop blowing their opportunities. Stay neutral…there will be a right time and place to endorse.

Washington will chew Obama up and spit him out and we will still be a country run by people whose names and faces we don't even reconize.

Alicia, Florida   February 17th, 2008 6:59 pm ET

John Edwards' should endorse Hillary Clinton. They agree on Universal Healthcare, creating policies to end poverty, and ending the war.

Hillary Clinton also has the experience to move these nobel thoughts into actual working programs.

ees   February 17th, 2008 7:02 pm ET

Sen Edwards represents the working poor of this country who are in dire need of a universal HC plan. They will be better served with his and Sen Clinton's plan aligned together. Sen Clinton will also deliver new jobs for those people that Sen Edwards care so much about.

Rosario   February 17th, 2008 7:09 pm ET

They look teammates to me. That would be excellent since they both are committed to good things for this country.

I THINK HILLARY AND EDWARDS WOULD MAKE A GREAT TEAM!!! GO HILLARY GO!!!!!!

TN   February 17th, 2008 7:25 pm ET

I hope Edwards endorses the best candidate. I believe he and Senator Clinton have fought for poverty most of their adult lives while Senator Obama led a privileged upbringing with his 100% Caucasian maternal grandparents in Honolulu. I would feel better about him if he spoke about his Kenyan father and his Muslim faith.

SLO Bear   February 17th, 2008 7:28 pm ET

I am glad to see that Edwards has finally met with Obama. I hope that Edwards decides to support Obama, whose policies mirror those of former Senator Edwards. If Edwards and his wife, Elizabeth, were to actively campaign for Obama, I have no doubt that the super-delegates would not be needed to select the Democratic candidate for President. Obama Edwards would be a real Dream ticket!! Obama/Edwards 2008!

B. Smart   February 17th, 2008 7:33 pm ET

Edwards should be his running mate.

Ken Austin, TX   February 17th, 2008 7:35 pm ET

Seems like Edwards gets more attention since he's dropped out of the race. At this point, do you think his endorsement will matter? His endorsement should have came within 2 days after he dropped out of the race. He is well aware of all the key issues of both Clinton and Barack, and it shouldn't take secret "home meetings" to determine who he is going to endorse.

LAB   February 17th, 2008 7:44 pm ET

I FILL THE PRESS DOES NOT LIKE THE CLINTON'S. THE PRESS WANTS TO GET PEOPLE TO VOTE OBAMA EVEN WHEN THEY KNOW CLINTON WOULD BE THE BEST IN THE WHITEHOUSE. SAY SOMETHING GOOD 1 TIME FOR THE CLINTON'S.

Doris   February 17th, 2008 7:53 pm ET

I hope Edwards makes the wise endorsement and picks Clinton. Texas is for Hillary. I have been to her campaign office here in San Antonio 3 times since it opened. I did a block walk for the first time in my life. It was a great experience. A reporter from the local paper asked me if I would vote for Obama if Hillary lost and I said no. He then asked me if I would then vote for McCain. I said no - I guess I just wont vote at all. I cannot in good conscience vote for a person I know cannot do the job. I am pretty sure there are some republicans out there that share my feelings - since Bush and Obama promised the same thing - change.

Malcolm Barry   February 17th, 2008 7:54 pm ET

Mr. Edwards is entitled to support any one of the candidates and he may or may not for various reasons. Some will be disappointed and he will do what he thinks is best for himself , his State, His Party and then the Country. Let the Games begin.

Jim From South Carolina   February 17th, 2008 7:55 pm ET

What a dream ticket the two of these guys would make. Continue your voice of hope, no one ever lost sleep dreaming of prosperity!

Mary- Lawrence KS   February 17th, 2008 7:59 pm ET

I think Edwards will do more for this election by staying neutral. Both candidates are reminded that his issues need to be addressed as well.

Rosa   February 17th, 2008 7:59 pm ET

Don't endorse either candidate! Stay neutral! Neither candidate is worth 2 cents because they are both just talk and no action. They'll say anything you want to hear just to get elected (just like a republican will do).

Many blessings to John and Elizabeth forever.

Tabitha   February 17th, 2008 8:10 pm ET

This is probably a stupid question, but if Edwards endorses a candidate, do they receive his delegates? I believe this is what happened when Romney endorsed McCain.

i think this shows Edwards actually cared about the people. he wants his efforts to continue.

Hillary Supporter   February 17th, 2008 8:13 pm ET

Hillary Clinton's positions are much closer to John Edwards. If John Edwards wants to remain true to his callings he must endorse Hillary.
I believe Edwards is too smart to jump on Obama's bandwagon.

Michelle in Des Moines   February 17th, 2008 8:15 pm ET

I am glad they are meeting. However I think Edwards should ask Obama if he is planning on keeping his word about public funding for the general election. I would love to be able to vote for Obama/Edwards, however I could not vote for a man that did not keep his word.

Sparkle, MO   February 17th, 2008 8:15 pm ET

I would vote for a ticket of Barack Obama with John Edwards. I only wonder why Edwards has been so hesitant to endorse Barack Obama or Hillary. This is rather sheepish and may have swayed the primary one way or another by now. That is my only concern about him at this point. I hope he is not an idle opportunist

Hannah   February 17th, 2008 8:18 pm ET

CNN,I have a question for you…why don't you ever accept my comments?
My criticism of your biased coverage is nothing compared to some of the criticism from other people.

Are you afraid that a lot of people aren't falling for your so called "trusted name in news" label?!

You are a disgraceful news network. And don't worry, you're not alone.MSNBC is no better either.Pretty soon both of you are going to act like FOX News

Hannah   February 17th, 2008 8:28 pm ET

I hope John Edwards tells Barack Obama to stop with the pretty sounding speeches and actually tell the voters how Obama plans to unite Republicans and Democrats and how he plans to solve the countries problems instead of using buzz words every chance he gets.I'd love to hear it

HILLARY 08

John in Columbus, OH   February 17th, 2008 8:42 pm ET

The only way Edwards can endorse Clinton without being seen as a complete hypocrit and sell-out is to endorse her after if she becomes the nominee. He distinguished himself as the people's candidate fighting against the corporate Democrats, meaning the Clinton machine and the Washington insiders.

Though, everyone knows that a Obama-Edwards ticket would be the total package for November.

Rob, NC   February 17th, 2008 8:52 pm ET

Edwards is probably better of staying neutral. He apparently doesn't think Obama is ready to be President, but also has had issues with the way Clinton has run her campaign. I'm not sure how much his endoresment would matter anyway. I think once he left the race, people made up their minds as to who they prefered more. However, his 26 delegates may certainly come in handy, so I don't blame the 2 candidates for going after his support.

fedup with obama /fl   February 17th, 2008 8:52 pm ET

I hope former sen. edwards will endorse hillary because she will be able to win in nov. 08. I also would like to see sen. Edwards as the vice pres. canidate. The would ubeatable.

independent for obama   February 17th, 2008 8:57 pm ET

I don't care who edwards endorses at this point. the importance of his endorsement has lost momentum about a week after super tuesday. He missed his shot for his endorsement to be really important. Now if he endorses anyone everyone will sniff it out that it was for political reasons and not sincere ones. Edwards to me is being a sore loser by not giving his endorsement to either. What a buch of wishy washy gobble de gup.

Lisa in Cincy   February 17th, 2008 9:05 pm ET

Did Edwards win a state? Did I miss something?

lorimax   February 17th, 2008 9:10 pm ET

Felipe   February 17th, 2008 9:11 pm ET

Edwards should endorse hillary because last time i checked, both hillary and edwards have the same universal healthcare plan, and many other plans are very similar.

James   February 17th, 2008 9:11 pm ET

This is a dream team! Two young, well-informed, articulate and tough law men steering this country and the free world into the future. They could be a nightmare to lobbyists who seek to "pay and play" legislation.

denise   February 17th, 2008 9:16 pm ET

if edwards were to endorse clinton, he would lose all credibility.

Gregor   February 18th, 2008 5:59 am ET

John should endorse the one who is closer to him and who has more experience. Barack Obama has 11 years experience as an elected politician (Illiois + US Senate). Hillary Clinton has only 7 years experience as an elected politician (US Senate). A simple calculation and the correct result is: Barack Obama.

Raymond Sparks   February 18th, 2008 6:17 am ET

I would like to see Edwards in the White House. Waiting till later
in the Primary "season" would probably be better. Endorsing what
may turn out to be the eventual loser would not help him get there.

jeffsd   February 18th, 2008 6:30 am ET

obama is long on words and short on substance. if he even has a chance in the general, he will likely be the next carter. the super delegates were put into place to make sure that we don't wind up with another McGovern or Carter. they didn't do their jobs when they chose Mondale or Kerry, lets hope they do their job now. They should definitely override the popular vote if it leans toward obama. he will either lose the general or be a terrible president.

Erik   February 18th, 2008 6:40 am ET

Obama/Edwards would be a mistake. Senator Obama needs as his running mate a Southern governor with executive experience currently in office.

julia b. ulloa   February 18th, 2008 6:44 am ET

I have great respect for John Edwards and he does care for the poor and unfortunately, I do not see in Obama. Hope he does endorse Clinton. Media has been so bias towards Obama and it is so sad.

Andrew   February 18th, 2008 6:46 am ET

I think the most important issues Edwards had or has, is the freedom to go after the corporate greed and the lobbyist, He cannot do that with Clinton because she owes those lobbyists. She has taken to much money from them to win, The healthcare issue is also important, I believe that Obama is going to get every one healthcare that wants it, He just doesn't believe you can force a person to get it. How do you mandate it? Are you going punish an adult if they do not want it, Are going to garnish their wages? Do you really think Clinton can get the support to get that through congress? Obama has dreams but he has more reason than many are aware. He can get his healthcare through where Hilary could not, Edwards will endorse Obama and take a position that he can best follow his own dream to help America, If that position is attorney general or vice president, I do not think it matters to him as long as he can go to bat and get it done,

Frank   February 18th, 2008 6:50 am ET

Obama/Edwards is a no-brainer. Hillary is old-guard and we don't want a family dynasty.

Sharon Mckie-Richardson   February 18th, 2008 6:50 am ET

Mark, Gainesville, VA   February 18th, 2008 6:58 am ET

Since the super delegates are such a hot topic and Mr. Edwards is debating who and when to endorse, let me add my advice. Wait until after March 4th to see where things stands. The super delegates should wait to switch candidates until they are sure who the nominee is going to be. I think the same rings true for Mr. Edwards' delegates. I feel an Obama backlash coming since he is being made the front runner. Why do you think he is telling voters at his rallies that he is still the underdog? He realizes there is still a decent change that Clinton will be the nominee. If she wins big on March 4th, and her new strategy works things can shift quickly to her favor. What Obama is trying to do is talk everyone into coming to him so she cannot come back. But what do you think Obama's stance will be on super delegates if Clinton ends up with more over all raw votes, and pretty even (within 100) or even ahead in the primary delegates? Super delegates can always change their pledges at the end. No need to changing pledges now.

Susan   February 18th, 2008 7:00 am ET

I do not care who endorse who but if John Edwards does decide who to endorse, I would hope that he endorses the candidate who is getting the vote of the people he claims he would like to help and it would definitely not be Obama.

Deborah   February 18th, 2008 7:06 am ET

I see a number of "universal health care" advocates for Hillary on the board, which is the perception the Clinton campaign is pushing. John Edwards was the only candidate with a true universal health care plan. Hillary's plan merely penalizes those who can't/won't buy health insurance with something like wage garnishing. Why punish those who are already down and out, or they would buy coverage? And I have a sincere question for Hillary: would these penalties extend to Christian Scientists, Old Order Amish, and other American groups who eschew health care as a religious belief? And if those groups, too, were not penalized, how could she call her plan "universal"? Edwards' plan, on the other hand, made coverage AVAILABLE TO ALL, with no onorous penalties. I hope Edwards can see his way clear to endorse Senator Obama, who respects his positions but seems not to be openly pandering as Hillary Clinton is. John and Elizabeth should be given consideration for the second spot on Obama's ticket, too. The last loss was Kerry's…not Edwards'.

tx   February 18th, 2008 7:11 am ET

it seams to me almost everybody wants edwards as a vice president. if we want to change washington then he should go with barak if we want the same old politics then hrc is the woman.who else to help obama than edward i think this is it. edward get on the bus yes we can!!!!

Chuck   February 18th, 2008 7:11 am ET

The Clinton Campaign should stop sending their staff to these boards posting fake opinions on Edwards…. The majority of people support Obama. Hillary is going to cause the Dems to lose the White House and we will suffer four more years of McCain..

Hillary do the right thing and GET OUT OF THE RACE. If she really loved this country she would do it. Edwards and the rest of the Dems need to unify behind Obama NOW.

Corey, Maryland   February 18th, 2008 7:14 am ET

There is no chance in Hell that Edwards would endorse Clinton. She stands for Corporate America, that upper 1% of the U.S. and takes millions of dollars from Pacs and Lobbyists. Things he has spent his whole life fighting against. Plus she is a terrible candidate that will be dropping out of the race soon because she will lose everything come March 4th. Obama represents the same objectives but to a different audience, and therefor it is only fitting that Edwards would endorse him. I would like to see Edwards as Attorney General and bring some credibility back to the Position.

Obama Richardson 08!!

They both have a lot of the same goals and ideas about how to help people.
Clinton/Edwards 2008

aleah29   February 18th, 2008 7:17 am ET

To all you HRC supports quoting the party lines about Obama; Read A Book. Start with Bill Clinton and work your way to Barack Obama. and then maybe you will understand why Mike Huckabee is still in the race, and why Sen. Edwards is being very cautions about endorsing anyone. Did you people live through the Clinton years? or just the first term? Do you remember the government shut down, and party fighting that led to ….yes…I'm going to say it…9-11…sorry rudy! Grow up! This is American Politics at it's best! Fight it out at the convention. Like in the good old days…you know before…Jimmy Carter rules…or maybe lose another election because you fight like girls, and the republicans fight like gangs.

Luc Mombito   February 18th, 2008 7:23 am ET

What? - the blinders must be down - You are all looking for Hil on the Hill? - you like forced health care purchase? they set the price (and think about it - its stayed in line for so many years now - oh wait - isn't that the problem?) and I have always thought - you know what - we as Americans need another stained dress coming out of the oval office - that would fix everything - just like "White Water" and all that experience she has coming from the Wal Mart board of Execs. and working it in the white house. No wait - that was Monica.

Put Edwards on the Obama ticket? no. I'd rather see a certain general on Obama's ticket as running mate.

CM   February 18th, 2008 7:30 am ET

This is the time for Edwards to support Obama . It would strengthen Obama's momentum into Texas and Ohio. The two men would be an invencible ticket next November. What a powerful message to the world when the US has an Afro American president! The US's reputation is completely destroyed after 8 years of disastrous Bush government. A new face, a new page, a new beginning, a new hope, that's what the world wants to see happen in the US.

Charlotte   February 18th, 2008 7:34 am ET

I just hope Edwards is too smart to fall for the Obama-mania. Obama talks of old politics yet has Ted Kennedy as a main man. Speaks often of JFK and MLK, talk about old politics. The only thing new about Obama is he's a black man running for President, which would not be possible without old politics that gave blacks and women the right to vote.

Carter   February 18th, 2008 7:34 am ET

I love it. Clinton and her supporters are getting desperate. I can see they are synchronizing with her negative message all over the web.
Obama 08!!!!!!!!
I lost all the respect I had for the clintons.

Kathi   February 18th, 2008 7:35 am ET

An endorsement by John Edwards for Barak Obama would be a great boost for Obama, just as he goes into Wisconsin, then Ohio & Texas.

The biggest endorsement that would help Obama, though, would be Bill Richardson–who would give him a big boost with the Latino vote in Texas.

Joe Voter   February 18th, 2008 7:38 am ET

Obama/Edwards '08! Two young men full of energy!

Praetorian, Fort Myers, FL   February 18th, 2008 7:39 am ET

Which ever way he swings, and whichever candidate becomes the Democrat's savior–we're in serious trouble as a nation if either Clinton or Obama are elected! Their agenda's will herald the largest movement to a socialist state in our nation's history.

Che Guevera was not right? Neither is Castro.

Independence, free-enterprise, and capitalism–remain, as our founding father's desired–the back bone of a free and independent United States.

Just when I started making a decent living–so I can afford the investments to off-set the piddling amount of social security in my old age!! Great…now I'm going to be taxed into oblivion to support people who don't even pay taxes.

Hawkeye   February 18th, 2008 7:40 am ET

It is a pure insult to John Edwards to think that he would endorse Mrs. Bill Clinton. He is as embarrased for her as the rest of the country. Why would you endorse or for that matter vote for some one you have no respect for. If she can't manage her family, Bill, how can she manage the country. She has failed in many leadership roles up to now, I don't think that the Presidency should be her next failure.

Tom   February 18th, 2008 7:45 am ET

If John endorses someone, it will be who offers the bigger prize.

The bad thing with Clinton, she has received the most lobbyist money of anyone and has even made a statement saying lobbyists represent 'America." The video on youtube is out there.

Obama won't get chewed up in the election, America is hungry for a fresh, young face. Despite his inexperience, no one is truly prepared to become president considering how each main candidate has served in the legislature and not the white house (while Hillary has lived and worked there, she never ran the top job like her husband did). Its gonna be an adjustment, there always is with new cabinet members and the administration taking hold, whoever it is that wins in 2008.
You will make a nice VP or attorney general, John Edwards!

Monty   February 18th, 2008 7:45 am ET

CNN = bias reporting. So much for journalism. Oh I forgot….National media = bias reporting.

Whitburn   February 18th, 2008 7:47 am ET

Edwards and Obama are much closer in poffessed idiology and policy. If he endorsed Clinton it would have to be a strategic decision, and that would weaken the value and impact of the endorsement.

Amy, Kazoo   February 18th, 2008 7:49 am ET

Joe Ossai-

"Sorry Edward we love you, but you are no longer relevant to the success of the Obama campaign.

Take your 26 delegates with you, bye"

that right there explains my disdain for the Obama campaign. We'll use you to get where we're going and then once we're there, we forget about you, we're too arrogant not to.

steven   February 18th, 2008 7:49 am ET

I voted for John Edwards in the Oklahoma primary–I didn't vote for Obama who mentions nothing of his Muslim dad or Muslim stepdad and how much or how little influence they had on him. Now in Wisconsin, Obama's speeches are sounding exactly like another politician who won as Mayor.
I pray John Edwards weighs his decision long and hard…

carlyn   February 18th, 2008 7:50 am ET

When I was in medical school a surgeon told me the way to find the best general surgeon was to find out who all the doctors picked to remove their mothers' gall-bladders.

No matter how skillful and intelligent a newly board certified surgeon might appear they were never picked. Going from a residency program to private practice involves too many new skills. Doctors were not going to trust their mothers' lives to someone without a track record.

You would think the people of this country would demand the same of our President. I know I do, that's why you are the one this country needs.

GoObama.com   February 18th, 2008 7:50 am ET

hey hillary folks why you guys are pleading to get John Edwards endorsement. Obama can win without Edwards's endorsement as well. He is ready to fight and win even if Edwards endorses Clinton. It's good chance for Edwards to support the candidate of hope and anti-loobbiest Obama. It's his choice and Obama will respect Edwards whomever John endorses. Obama is for uniting the nation so that he asked Edwards for support, It's not a big deal for "Yes We Can" nation. Obama is unstoppable, so nobody can stop him, and neither Hillary+Edwards (if happened).

claudia bentley   February 18th, 2008 7:50 am ET

Edwards should definitely endorse Obama, what a team! This is what America needs, Hillary would just bring more of the same and we want a change, we want Obama. Yes we will!!

claudia bentley   February 18th, 2008 7:51 am ET

Dana Broxton   February 18th, 2008 7:51 am ET

all clinton does is attack obama, you never see it the other way around. Obama might respond to her attack but never initiates it. It seems funny that her attacks towards Obama are increasingly getting stronger the more she looses states to him. Clinton take notes from Obama and focus more on getting the message out than attacks, you have already changed his saying of 'yes we can' into "yes we will". Americans know by now that you would eat your own young if that would help you win the nomination!!!!!
Obama 08

Thommy   February 18th, 2008 7:52 am ET

Edwards endorsement of Obama would the best thing that happens to Americans as a hole, due to the fact that Obama is not being used to seek a thired term of presidency and naither has he lied on his LEGECIES, I mean MONICA.

Jim673   February 18th, 2008 7:53 am ET

I don't think Edwards will endorse either candidate until one of the gives in an offers him something.

Beto   February 18th, 2008 7:53 am ET

America is sick (economy in recession, war, bad image oversees etc…) and therefore in need of a good and experienced doctor. If it was you in need of care and faced with the possibility of choosing between a physician with many years of experience treating all kinds of diseases including yours (Hilary Klinton) and one with little more than one term internship, what whould you do?… Would you choose the less experienced one?… WAKE UP AMERICA, Obama's time will come… Let him learn from his mistakes first…

Of course Edwards should endorse Sen. Obama. How can anyone contemplate going back to the Clintons? It would not be Hillary we would be getting, but Hillary & Bill. Back to the past? American has to go forwards, look ahead. Senator Obama for President!

con in PA   February 18th, 2008 7:56 am ET

I thought once you drop out, you don't keep your delegates, in the Dem party? If this is true, it would just be an endorsement. I think Edwards would've had more of an impact had he not waited so long. The voters that supported him, have had to vote in many states without his endorsement or input.
I think Edwards voters have had to make up their own minds already. My daughter liked Edwards, and has moved to Obama. He waited too long, I believe, to have a big impact now.

Wayne   February 18th, 2008 7:57 am ET

I believe both candidates would encourage an endorsement from Edwards. The question at this point is of what value this would be. Edwards waited too long and missed his chance to haggle for the VP spot. However, he would be an excellent choice for Attorney General for either administration.

chris   February 18th, 2008 7:58 am ET

Looks like Hillary has a strategy of invading comment sections on CNN. I think Edwards should endorse Obama, that is, if he was really serious about overturning he status-quo in Washington. But do any of us really believe he was serious? No. He's just making a play for his own place at the table. . .simple as that. Don't ascribe to him any higher motives.

Why is it news when Edwards meets with Obama? He met with Clinton a week ago and it was hardly mentioned.

Again, CNN your reporting is slanted.

Alecki   February 18th, 2008 7:59 am ET

How quickly Mr Edwards forgets how the media showed him such little coverage.

I hope and pray to God that he doesn't support Obama.

Objective contributor, Knoxville   February 18th, 2008 8:02 am ET

Why should Sen. Edwards be a clog in the will of the Democratic Party? Endorsing Sen. Clinton will almost create a stalemate in the nomination process because Sen. Obama will still be leading, I feel endorsing Sen. Obama should be his best choice because, that will bring out a clear frontrunner in the nomination process, hence the party as a whole will have only the GOP to contend with, also considering the fact most his supporters were the union members who have now thown their support behind Sen. Obama, it will mean that he still cares and appreciate the support of the union members and other people that were supporting him and now supporting Barack. Am sure he does know the best thing for him, his supporters, his party and of course the nation - He should just break this logjam of a contest and lest the party be focused.

DEMOCRATS!!!!! WELCOME TO THE WHITE HOUSE

VIRGINIA VOTER   February 18th, 2008 8:02 am ET

CNN has more Clinton political ticker stories on this site than they do Obama. CNN says Clinton's name first and have her picture first —ALLTHE TIME! Yet Clinton supporters still whine about them being bias towards the Clintons—Unbelievable!

Alecki   February 18th, 2008 8:02 am ET

I hope that John Edwards won't support Obama. The public knows he's acting like a messiah. If Clinton's got the promotions from CNN that Obama has gotton she would already have been nominated.

Edward's endorsement is too little too late…What's he holding out for?…VP?…Any job?…This guy, like Romney, would sell himself to the highest bidder…He needs to just go away.

Felix Mendez   February 18th, 2008 8:05 am ET

Just ask Edwards' wife if she would like to see him endorsing the Clintons. I write "the Clintons," because it is not only HRC, the whole package goes, including BILL. By the way, HRC is now dismissing OBama's leadership and readiness qualities. Maybe a good exercise would be to check her past statements about Barak Obama when he was running for Senator. Remember when he delivered the speech at the Democratic Convention? How did she characterize him? Is she now "flip-flopping" about the man whom she considered to be a great promise for this country? This is politics American way, friends. Have fun!

Hillaryfans   February 18th, 2008 8:10 am ET

Hillary Clinton also met with Edwards at his home recently.

It just wasn't "headline news" then.

CNN is clearly biased.

Jewel - NC   February 18th, 2008 8:21 am ET

Obama - Edwards sounds good to me.

I think Edwards should do what the people want and that is a change.
I feel he will do the right thing and endorse Obama.

TLC   February 18th, 2008 8:23 am ET

FORGET, EDWARDS. OBAMA AND CLINTON IS THE ONLY TICKET THAT MAKES SENSE. LET'S GET IT TOGETHER!!

Joe   February 18th, 2008 8:23 am ET

Why is this the ticker headline still? The CNN "journalists" responsible for content on the ticker/blog always leave headlines (on the main page) suggesting good things for or about Obama and bad things for or about Hillary for inordinate amounts of time.

Joe   February 18th, 2008 8:24 am ET

John Edwards should endorse Hillary Clinton

pd   February 18th, 2008 8:24 am ET

By the way, on another topic. The declared independence of Kosovo this weekend is thanks to Bill Clinton. Also, the peace in Ireland that was so elusive throughout the 20th century, was thanks to Bill Clinton. Unlike Obama, I happen to look back on the 1990s as a very progressive and hopeful time. What I find pessimistic is Obama's trashing on all those accomplishments. Yes, Hillary will be President, but her policies are very close (not completely, but close) with his. In fact, hers are a bit more progressive than Bill Clinton's. This is the sure thing Bill Clinton was talking about in Iowa when he referenced "rolling the dice."

I'm sure this will not get posted as CNN seems to censoring many pro-Hillary comments.

MJ   February 18th, 2008 8:26 am ET

Geez, this is like the tabloids…where is the paparazzi?

Sam   February 18th, 2008 8:28 am ET

Edwards needs to endorse the only candidate who will make a positive contribution to this country. Obama/Edwards!!!!

Rob, NC   February 18th, 2008 8:33 am ET

It's kind of a lose-lose for Edwards if he makes an endorsement. Endorsing Hillary would go against all of the criticism he's given her during the campaign while endorsing Obama would go against his vision of real universal healthcare (which by the way I don't see being very feasible under Hillary's plan).

Edwards would probably make for a very good VP canddiate for either side, though I can't imagine he'd want to have to play second fiddle for a second election in a row.

He would be better off staying neutral and lobbying for a Cabinent position in either administration.

LifeLongDemocrat   February 18th, 2008 8:34 am ET

I hope he endorses HIllary as they seem to be simpatico when it comes to issues. She deserves it!

I am still concerned about an Obama candidacy as the supporters, at least on the blogs, seem unwilling to takw the Hillary supporters into the fold. They need us to win and can't seem to see that. They are angry, feel entitled, and don't get it!

Kerry took in the Dean supporters and they became the backbone of his campaign. That's how it works Obama supporters.

Boston Brahmin   February 18th, 2008 8:34 am ET

CNN like MSNBC has become a tool for Obama. They keep censoring pro-hillary and anti-Obama . Sad to say Fox is really looking more fair and balanced

rudy W   February 18th, 2008 8:38 am ET

I wonder which loser this loser will endorse. Romney endorsed McCain. Ask yourself why is it so hard for Edwards to endorse anybody?

kwaku sarpong (knust)   February 18th, 2008 8:40 am ET

i think Edwards himself has come to realise the change obama speaks about. edwards do the right thing by endorsing obama

charlene   February 18th, 2008 8:41 am ET

Clinton for President!!
Edwards for VP!
Obama is arrogant and full of hot air. His supporters call him the
chosen one and the messiah - now, that's really scarry. Think about
history, folks.

James, Washington-DC   February 18th, 2008 9:00 am ET

Although an Edwards endorsement would, in name, help either Clinton or Obama, we all know how the majority of the country feels about him. His endorsement will be as useful to HRC or BHO as much as "my endorsement" for one of them. No one cares. Both his "states" (North and South Carolina) are more or less in one or the other's corners, so they won't change their mind just because Edwards endorses one. It's time for the people to buck up and take this election seriously. Do their homework and decide for themselves.

Cathi   February 18th, 2008 9:08 am ET

I believe Edwards will wait until the will of the people is known and cast his delegates to the winner. It would be political suicide to do anything other than that.

Arlene   February 18th, 2008 9:15 am ET

How come CNN didn't give as much press the Clintons meeting with John Edwards? It seems that Obama is being given a free ride and publicity. Showing a hug by Edwards and Obama is a good photo op for Obama even though it may not mean anything. Give Clinton a fair shake.

Joe   February 18th, 2008 9:15 am ET

"Obama Healthcare Plan leaves 15 million People"

1. From where did you get that number?
2. Government responsibility is to offer affordable healthcare to everyone. Its not there responsibility to force you to buy it. So who's fault is that?
3. Those "15 million?" didn't want to buy insurance. So you can't blame government for those people who don't want to buy the insurance.

When the insurance is made affordable to everyone then i think most people will buy it.

Christine Atlanta, Ga.   February 18th, 2008 9:16 am ET

OBAMA thinks he's GOD and his supporters treat him that way. This is a cult. Reminds me of Jim Jones.

Indy for Obama   February 18th, 2008 9:16 am ET

Edwards learned better than to be the VP to someone only leading the Republican by a few points. If he wants to win, he needs to endorse Obama.

If you want the independents with you, you can't make Hillary your nominee. We do not think she can unite this country at all. McCain has a better shot at doing that than Hillary does.

JOE   February 18th, 2008 9:17 am ET

Edwards will endorse Obama. He knows Hillary is all talk, actually say anything to appeal to anyone left who will even think of voting for her. Her campaign is broken and so will be her promises. Nothing she proposes illustrates how she would convince the public and the congress to approve her outlandish fairy tale proposals. She is, of, and by the special interest groups as her record and affiliations reveal.

mase   February 18th, 2008 9:18 am ET

Do you people actually believe that Hillary Clinton can beat john McCain in the race for the presidency. If Hillary gets the nomination the democratic party is doomed and the country will be doomed to spend another 4 years in a pointless. Obama is the answer for our country and has the best chance at beating McCain in the fall. Edwards endorse Obama it is the smart thing to do for our country.

Those that are calling CNN bias everytime Obama's name is mentioned are really the ones that are bias. Hillary gets as much press as Barack does. It's her own fault that the press she get is negative. She is running such a negative campaign because she is losing and desperate.

Obama/Edwards is the dream ticket!!!!!!

Moses   February 18th, 2008 9:23 am ET

Please, let's get real! If Edwards endorses Hillary, it will be for politics only! Anyone who has followed the campaigns thus far, know that Edwards and Clinton are miles apart in philosophy, lobbyist, endorsements, concern for the poor. The natural choice is for Obama, but Edwards is holding out to ensure his message is heard by all, since he knew that he was not going to win!

rw   February 18th, 2008 9:24 am ET

This is very unfair that Edwards is not making statements; he should either endorse or come out quickly and say, he is not endorsing anyone. By meeting with Obama and Clinton behind the doors, the public is forced to think that he is looking for a deal, which may not be the case; but he MUST make a statement to clear the smoke that he is creating!!! When he accepted VP from Kerry, the son of South could not deliver South Carolina; whatever, he must MAKE a statement either endorse Obama or Clinton or NO Endorsement !!!! It is not fair from his side to play this game and keep claiming that he hope either of these candidates will do good for poor!!! Common Edwards, stop playing behind the door games!!!

AnnT   February 18th, 2008 9:24 am ET

I don't know that Edwards (or anyone's) endorsement will make a big difference really. I can see the hate posters here have for Obama. He sure wasn't anticipated to the competition he turned out to be for Ms. Clinton. I like both Obama and Clinton and think we have a great choice this time around.

However, I am hoping that Edwards goes with my first choice, Obama. It's time to turn the page, as they say. It should be a new beginning, and a new hope. Obama fills the bil and I am hoping Edwards endorses him.

melvin   February 18th, 2008 9:24 am ET

Don't be afraid america, Obama is not gonna change the colors of the White House he's just gonna fix it. Edwards would be smart to side with Obama if he wants to be relevent to this election, in other words he can't help Mrs. Clinton its over.

rernie   February 18th, 2008 9:25 am ET

Hillary will be a very good President. People you need to vote for her.

Everett   February 18th, 2008 9:26 am ET

What so funny is that none of this matters. For those of us who know sports its going to be like an MVP race. Those who back Clinton or Obama so strongly are NOT going to just jump over and support the winner of the Democractic party. Winner by default in this presidental election will be John McCain because republicans back whoever they are told to back and they do it with unity…regardless of how they feel about his potential…You have to admire that a little bit.

- Independent Voter who is not going to waste his time this year voting but will watch the drama as it unfolds daily-

Edwards supporter   February 18th, 2008 9:30 am ET

I hope that he will endorse Clinton. You've got to choose the lesser of two evils in this case. Clinton is the lesser. I hate it, I wish Edwards would be our president, but if he has to choose, choose one who can get in the White House. Somewhere the republicans are say GO BARACK so that John McCain can slip into the White House. Thats the last thing we need is another Bush in the White House.

JOHN EDWARDS 08

alto   February 18th, 2008 9:31 am ET

Even though I clearly support one candidate over the other, I'm hoping that Edwards chooses not to endorse at this time. This campaign is devolving into something that might make it difficult for supporters of the ultimate loser of the nomination to then come together behind the democratic nominee - I happen to be one of those people. Edwards and others who have resisted endorsing a candidate can play an important role - right now in asking their campaigns to reign in nasty bloggers engaged in sliming the opponent and holding the media accountable for observing their fairness policies.

Later, Edwards and others can serve an important role in helping both campaigns figure out how to elect a democratic candidate in November - which is what this primary season is all about.

Douglas Schmidt   February 18th, 2008 9:31 am ET

What really needed to happen was that Obama should have waited to run and there is more than a good chance that the White House would have been in Democratic hands for 16 years. But no, of course common sense makes no sense ,does it. Clinton paid her dues, and no argument exists otherwise. I, being a Democrat all of my voting years, and I am 57, will not go to the polls to support Obama.

Jeff   February 18th, 2008 9:32 am ET

I really wish everyone who's complaining that "Obama has no plans" or "Obama's all talk and no substance" would just buck up and decide to do a little research instead of complaining that TV media doesn't take entire segments, shows, hours to explain each candidate's view in detail.

This is the internet, people. All the information you could possibly want is at your fingertips and all it takes is [insert candidate name here].com. Sure the website might have a bit of spin or bias for the candidate who owns it, but is that any different from hearing it straight from the candidate's mouth?

You have enough time to come here, complain, and stump vigorously for your candidate, while either knowing nothing about the other's views or very convincingly feigning ignorance. Why not spend it a bit more wisely? (Yes, I am aware of the irony, but sue me, I'm an optimist)

V.W.   February 18th, 2008 9:32 am ET

Most of the endorsements Edwards received, they have now endorsed
Obama. It would make perfect since for him to endorse Obama.

Obama has received most of the votes from Edwards and Obama is
winning this contest; so it makes since to endorse the winner not the loser HRC.

Tony   February 18th, 2008 9:33 am ET

Obama can unify this country better than Hilary can. He presents a better chance to win in November. Too many Republicans nationally would refuse to vote for Hilary, regardless of what her policies are.

hey allons,tn   February 18th, 2008 9:33 am ET

Blaine   February 18th, 2008 9:33 am ET

The thing is, during the entire campaign Edwards ripped on Clinton the whole time, and not so much Obama. He will most likely endorse Obama or he'll look like a hypocrite in front of the whole nation

Ellen S.   February 18th, 2008 9:33 am ET

I had hoped that Edwards would stay in the race until the NY primary. I almost voted for him anyway; until I entered the polling booth, I had not decided. I could happily vote for any of the Democratic candidates (I can't remember when I ever thought that.) But I want to see Edwards on the ticket so I would rather he not endorse anyone. (I voted for Hillary in the NY primary and I have no regrets.)

Terry from El Paso, TX   February 18th, 2008 9:34 am ET

Let's think about a Dream Team of leaders for the US. For the first time since I began voting in 1968, the Democrats have fielded a group of excellent candidates: Biden, Clinton, Dodd, Edwards, Gore (in absentia), Obama, and Richardson. A year or so ago, I read Doris Kearn's Goodwin's book about Lincoln "Team of Rivals" (recommended by me without any reservation or qualification).

Lincoln - a pretty good leader - drafted his opponents for the presidency into his administration as cabinet officers. An unusual strategy, certainly, but the nation was facing a unique crisis.

Today, our nation is in a unique crisis. Our chances of surviving the next fifty years as a nation while still keeping our freedoms and democracy intact are iffy, in my amateur opinion.

What if we could put in place the ideal administration? Let us imagine an Obama presidency and Clinton as Vice-president. Let us further imagine NM governor Bill Richardson as Secretary of State, Al Gore as Secretary of Energy, John Edwards at Health and Human Services, McCain at Defense (why not?), and Biden as the president's special emissary to Iraq (in charge of that whole mess). Perhaps we could persuade Robert Reich, former Secy of Labor, to come back to Labor or Treasury.

Obama's strength is the big picture, the vision thing. Hillary's strength is that she knows Washington, the people, and the governments's machinery. It would take a big man, like Lincoln, to manage this cast of prima donnas, but we hope he can grow into such a man.

If we don't start solving some problems pretty soon, some very bad things are going to happen to our environment, our economy, our jobs, our health, our children, and our future. It's going to take something more than politics as usual to solve those problems.

Also, after Obama's 8 years, we will have a few members of the dream team still young enough and certainly competent enough to step into teh White House in 2016, to continue the good work.

Why not?

Obama/Edwards 2008

Why are people even suggesting an Obama/Edwards ticket? He's played shotgun before and it led no where. He'd be nuts to do that all over again, least with an inexperienced candidate who preaches and preens. Obama is aligned to Kerry, who's another loser in more ways than one (in 2004, and his loud, boisterous endorsement was just hot air). Edwards should not play into Obama's sweet talk (or Hillary's). He should stay neutral so that his political career has some semblance of legitimacy.

Clinton's last health care plan — however much you liked it — ended up in the trash can because the Clinton's don't know how to compromise in the right way (they know how to capitulate, but not necessarily compromise). What good are her ideas in that situation?

Also, Obama isn't trying to change the rule when it comes to superdelegates….he's just trying to PERSUADE them how they should vote. That's not the same as changing the rules…like HRC is trying to do with Florida and Michigan.

if edwards represent the south and obama won his home state then he should not go against him, the voters in his home state>>>>> and endorse obama just like the people of his home state overwhelmingly did.

It is too bad that Edwards has already been a VP candidate for Kerry. No one would want to do it twice. But he would make an excellent running mate for Obama otherwise.

If I hear "yes we can" another time I will puke.
