Clinton’s Ohio ad is aimed at blue-collar voters.
Clinton’s Ohio ad is aimed at blue-collar voters.

(CNN) – Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign is reaching out to blue-collar voters with a new ad that says she can empathize with the travails of the night shift.

“You pour coffee, fix hair, you work the night shift at the local hospital,” says the announcer in the 30-second spot, ‘Night Shift,’ over footage of workers on the job.

“You're often overworked, underpaid, and sometimes overlooked. But not by everyone. One candidate has put forth an American family agenda to make things easier for everyone who works so hard. ….”

The ad ends with a photo of Clinton working at her desk at night. “She understands. She's worked the night shift, too.”

Clinton’s campaign has noted a strong showing in Ohio’s March 4 primary is critical to her bid for the Democratic presidential nomination.

So has Clinton worked the night shift? Spokesman Howard Wolfson said Tuesday that "the reference is to her working late at night at her desk."

I HAVE worked the night shift on my feet for minimum wage. Hillary you make light of what we do because you've sat at your cushy leather chair in your office (probably with your shoes off and a nice beverage nearby). As Bill said GIVE ME A BREAK!

Wayne Ballard, Denton, TX   February 19th, 2008 6:21 pm ET

TYPICAL CLINTON LIE.....SHE HAS NO IDEA WHAT WHAT WORKING NIGHT SHIFT IS ABOUT......JUST LIKE ANOTHER ADD TOUTING GETTING HEALTH CARE FOR 6 MILLION CHILDREN....WHAT A BUNCH OF CROCK.........THE SCHIP PROGRAM GOT THAT, IT WAS NONE OF HER DOING....IF YOU WANT TO KNOW IF THE CLINTONS ARE LYING, JUST WATCH THEIR LIPS, IF THEY MOVE THEY ARE LYING!!!!!!

Randy   February 19th, 2008 6:19 pm ET

Poor Hiliary. She thought that she would easily win this race. Now she is making a farce out her ads and is running scared. I worked night shift for about 15 years and definitely not an issue that I would present. I was in the Air Force during Vietnam but also not a big deal. However, I was not a prisoner of war. I will say that her campaign statement of being Commander and Chief does not set well.

Franky   February 19th, 2008 6:18 pm ET

All I want to say is this is quote is pretty funny........"So has Clinton worked the night shift"? LOL!!!!!!

Hey, I'm not being critical to Hillary. I'm sure she has worked a night shift before in her daily life. You know, she probably has experienced it before. Don't worry Hillary, you're still my girl.........

Rich   February 19th, 2008 6:14 pm ET

She's the hardest working of them all! Obamsa is lazy and a plagiarizer to boot! What a joke! Two years in the Senate and he wants to be president? Pay your dues, dude!

Janel, St. Paul, MN   February 19th, 2008 6:00 pm ET

This ad is a pitiful attempt to wow the "working people" of America. If the responses to date are any indication, it is not working.

Try to be a little original, Clinton campaigners!

jeff   February 19th, 2008 5:59 pm ET

If I have to read one more Clinton supporter's uninformed comment usually ending in some trite phrase i.e. You go girl! I'm going to puke. I think it would be great for a woman to be president, but I don't think we should elect this nepotist panderer. Please everyone, and I tell you this out of love, go and read the policies of the candidates. Go and read their histories. I won't tell you what to think, and I won't need to if you would look past the superficial political coverage.

JoeySky   February 19th, 2008 5:57 pm ET

She is the 'true" uniter. Looks at the number of new donors that come out in groove to donate after the Super Tuesday. When we knew that she needed help, we came forward.

I signed up with her website since she launched the campaign. They never asked me once for money, not via email or phone call. They sent me email about her policy and her campaign, but they never asked for money. Never.

But when that email came out after Super Tuesday, I realized that she need help and I stepped up my donation. I was not alone, a lot of people acted the same way. We back her 100% and want her to succeed. We want her to be our president.

The pundit is dead wrong. Hillary is not a polarized figure, she is a 'true' uniter. And I'm one of the proud supporters of Hillary's campaign.

SC NJJJ   February 19th, 2008 5:41 pm ET

I agree with Sen. Clinton. Hillary worked hard during the 1990's for this country. YOU GO GIRL!

Carmen   February 19th, 2008 5:37 pm ET

You gotta love Hillary sometimes. Even with all the negatives, it's just funny when you step back and look at it all. For instance, when she was campaigning in California, I saw coverage of her eating a taco at some Hispanic restaurant. A taco?! I guess she was trying to show Hispanics that she's just like them too.

Hey, after this election is over, maybe Mrs. Clinton should go work for Saturday Night Live. Comedy!

Marcia   February 19th, 2008 5:36 pm ET

The more they bash Hillary, the more that I like her. She has my vote...and the NAFTA blabbing idiots need to read NAFTA. It was started by Bush senior...not by Hillary.

astair   February 19th, 2008 5:33 pm ET

The ad is brilliant, keep that Eleanor Roosevelt for the new millenium coming Hills! Hillary in 08, you can do it girl!

chicagoan   February 19th, 2008 5:28 pm ET

I'm an Obama supporter, but it's good to see Hillary on her own message, the one she'd owned for a long time, instead of letting Wolfson and Penn blurt out divisive stuff. I don't want to dislike her.

carrie   February 19th, 2008 5:24 pm ET

She is a divider rather than a uniter. The ad speaks for itself. Who ever worked the night shift with a business suit, expensive jewelry and pearls? I worked in a factory until eventually it closed and went out of business. I wore jeans and steel toe shoes. Has anyone ever seen Hillary wearing jeans? I think not. I worked in a factory but I am not stupid.

NAFTA speaks for itself. Hillary you are scandelous!

Tara   February 19th, 2008 5:23 pm ET

*chuckle-chuckle* Working late at your desk and "working the night shift" are two very different things. The fact that her campaign doesn't get that is disconcerting at least.

I am sure he is a hard-working woman. But, if you compare that lone desk image with the images of Obama pounding pavement as a community organizer, it looks bad for her. Her campaign staff needs to open their eyes if they want to relate to us hard-working midwesterners.

Carmen   February 19th, 2008 5:23 pm ET

Hey people, lay off of Hillary. She's getting better. At least she's not going negative and alienating much of the Democratic party. Yeah she's lying and pandering to the blue collar workers because that's who she needs next. But hey, you have to start somewhere. This ad actually gave me a laugh and that's the best thing she's done in her campaign this primary season. Let's see if this more jovial attitude will last during the upcoming debates.

Chicka   February 19th, 2008 5:23 pm ET

I worked the night shift in a textile factory to pay my way through college.

Every night.

Not just *some* nights, with a staff to fetch coffee and a sustaining bagel. I betcha she didn't have to step into the shower and watch a ring of lint develop around the tub. Or coughed up same stuff.

But hey, it's what I had to do to get ahead. I'm sure she feels the same way about this election.

Leslea Obamacan From Cypress   February 19th, 2008 5:23 pm ET

By the way, My Father was forced to retire early...you why? NAFTA caused his company to close there doors after my fathers 25 years of service... Thanks BILLARY!!! No way you can EVER have my vote.

mgoody   February 19th, 2008 5:20 pm ET

Oh my, Obama's fan club can't stand the heat. This add is great. It hits who its supposed to, hard working people, moms with young kids, people who have eldery parents, You hit a home run with this one Hillary!!!!

Hillary 08

Leslea Obamacan From Cypress   February 19th, 2008 5:20 pm ET

This is so like Hillary to act as if she is in touch with real people. Her own daughter is even too good to interact with real people (no media interviews). She wants us to believe that she is the only one with the "solution" to our problems. I say really, what have you done other than send us into war with her stamp of approval, okay bankruptcy law changes that favor big business, vote for NCLB (no child left behind) even though she knew it would fail. Come on !!!! She cant manage her personal life, nor her professional life, nor her campaign...HOW IS SHE GOING TO RUN THIS COUNTRY...By the way I voted for Bill twice...as a Republican, however HILLARY FORGETS SHE IS NOT BILL!!!

LOL, I just love how Hillary does business...politics as usual.

David   February 19th, 2008 5:18 pm ET

We must admit, that is a quite petty. Do anything to win, Hillary. Were will it end?

Eric   February 19th, 2008 5:18 pm ET

Hillary has been a fighter for the low income families all her life. Do you people actually think that Obama will be the so called change that everyone wants? Face it! Every politician becomes a little corrupted when elected in office. At least we know what to expect with Hillary.

Go Hillary!!

Obama vs. McCain = McCain is the winner

Clinton vs. McCain = Clinton is the winner

What does it gain you to ride the hype of Obama when the right person is Hillary?

NORCAL-Thank you so much for your true and positive comments about Senator Clinton.

She has outlined the issues that affect every single American, not just 1 population.

It takes sweat, tears and dedication to get through law school.

The lady was not born rich.

You Hillary haters are getting old with your bad comments about a very fine woman that has worked very hard for many causes that affect folks.
CNN-I hope you print this..............................

Lilarose in Oregon   February 19th, 2008 5:17 pm ET

I have never seen a photo of Obama working.

He has been in the Senate for four years and he has been on the campaign trail alot of that time.

What gives?

Hope and change?

L. Parker   February 19th, 2008 5:17 pm ET

I bet John Edwards would not approve this ad. What are you guys thinking?

Sleepless in San Antonio   February 19th, 2008 5:17 pm ET

Of course she is working at night on the so called "Night Shift". I am sure all of our current political contenders work the "Night Shift" after all who can sleep with the guilty conscious they have over the way the have forgot about middle America. Lets send the jobs to Mexico and Canada with NAFTA, lets drop tariffs on imported products. Lets raise taxes and give tax refund checks to people making them think we care about them or their economy. So Hillary how about you keep working those long night shifts and take a pay cut along with all of your other colleagues while still working the same amount of hours then you might get a little sympathy and understanding of what it is like trying to make ends meet.

Those of you who say Obama or any of these privileged candidates understands what it is like. Please wake up! They don't care about us they just are seeking a pay raise at our expense. Most of their promises along with $3.50 will get you a gallon of gas when all is said and done. Someday maybe we will get an honest person who has common sense to understand and listen to good advisor's and not special interests to become an elected official and really start to bring about change.

NY Dem   February 19th, 2008 5:15 pm ET

How Offensive!!!!!

Are you kidding me?!?!

Is THIS what her campaign has come to? Talk about WORDS, Hillary, come on!

I'm sure she is working the night shift, trying to figure out more CATTY and USELESS attacks for her opponent.

I do NOT want 8 more years of this!!!!

I think the message is a simple one...

SHE HAS AND WILL WORK DAY AND NIGHT FOR THE POOR FOLKS, WHOM HAVE NO CHOICE BUT TO WORK THE NIGHT SHIFT!

What obama done lately?
Great ad!

and remember folks, there is no 'O' in 'Change'.

"a student"   February 19th, 2008 5:13 pm ET

When many of these night-shifters were goofing off , having a good time or getting pregnant instead of studying at school, she was working hard to be something,, get somewhere. So no need to shed any tears for those working nightshifts...you shoulld have worked harder when you were young and may be you could have been doing what she is doing instead of feeling sorry for yourselves.

Amy in Iowa   February 19th, 2008 5:12 pm ET

This is what she calls the night shift? As a female, I unloaded 100 pound bags by hand from trucks until dawn. That is the night shift, physical labor, underpaid, leaving your children at home. And still not having enough money to put food on the table.

Hillary's ad in insulting. For someone who supported NAFTA, Wal-Mart and selling our jobs to China. For someone who is a millionaire, Hillary has put the nail in the coffin for me.

I would NEVER vote for Hillary Clinton. She just doesn't get it. She does not understand the people. Obama does because he is one of us. Hillary is not.

Love the ad!!! She looked really dignified! I really admire her for fighting to the end! Hope that the voters will realize that voting HILLARY will secure our future, even if she works night shift, she wakes up every morning to fight for the American cause!!! I wish the background music will be " Working 9-5" by Dolly Parton!

John K   February 19th, 2008 5:10 pm ET

Look! most white collar professionals do some work at night including lawyers, teachers and teachers. In her 35 years, she has worked night and day for projects that benefitted the American public as well as for corporate interests that ultimately benefitted herself. There are not many Jusus Christ's out there.
Having said that, I wonder whether presenting a white collar worker's working at night as night shift is productive as a strategy to attract blue-collar workers is well thought out. I suspect it is more likely to invite cynicism about the claims of the candidate.

LucieLee   February 19th, 2008 5:09 pm ET

Hillary~~~You kidding....right?

oh no she didn't   February 19th, 2008 5:06 pm ET

I guess her AD sucked.

Darryl from Arlington TX   February 19th, 2008 5:06 pm ET

Hillary's world no one understands her but Bill Clinton. She cares less for Union Workers just ask Wal Mart workers. She likely came up with the 36 hour work week at Wal Mart so they don't have to pay there works Medical Benifits. She is one smart lady.... She wants to give you false hope than pull it away from you.... Whata Hillary......

Chris   February 19th, 2008 5:05 pm ET

Alot of sour grapes here. I have worked the night shift both in a factory and at my desk. Both were taxing. How can anyone say that their work is any worse than someone else's job. Give me a break! Lots of narrow mindedness. And as far as the amount of money the Clintons have...doesn't anyone remember that the Clintons never had millions until after Bill's presidency. He, like so many others, gets major bucks for his speeches, books, etc. Name me one politician who actually came from second shift factory work with a zero balance in their checkbook and a mortgage in default. This is another one of those bash the Clintons rants while we all have to cut the Obamas slack for their actions. Let's vote on issues people!

Rabin   February 19th, 2008 5:04 pm ET

How late??? For a school student 9:00pm is late during the weekdays. Was her condition that bad she had to work late nights???
She hasn't learned the lesson that when you attack others you forget that you are attacking youself.

cheryl   February 19th, 2008 5:04 pm ET

I do work at a hospital and I know that our employees do not work 16 hour days and weekends on behalf of other people. And all most of my colleagues do is complain about everything.

When are you ALL going to give her a break.

I have also been a community activist and that just means a lot of meetings with policiticians and other stakeholders. Activists are just politicians in training. Where is Obama's PLAN, people? He just talks but where are the details? I think we are in really big trouble since once again, most people think emotionally rather than strategically.

Bukky, Baltimore   February 19th, 2008 5:03 pm ET

I think this shows the disconnect between Hillary and the "blue collars" she is looking to get. Working long hours as a corporate attorney at 300-600 per our aint (delibrate choice to use that word) the same as working the night shift at a gas station or plant.

If she doesn't know that, there is a problem.

There is also the matter of choice. Hillary chooses to OVERachieve by working late. Blue collar worker working the night shift becuase they choose to EAT.

TXnurse4obama   February 19th, 2008 5:03 pm ET

Good job Hillary thanks for the help! You have just insulted blue collar workers in this nation. From all persons that have struggled to make a few extra dollars on the night shift to make ends meet. It is time for same old people same old politics to get out of Washington. Republicans as well as Democrats are ready for change. This country is ready to move forward not backwards.

Mir   February 19th, 2008 5:03 pm ET

You might get a higher salary in law, but all of those firms require their lawyers to pull all nighters to get out briefs, contracts, research. It's not a "choice" when your job is at stake and you're working for a 24/7 culture. This ad does ring true.

Michael   February 19th, 2008 5:02 pm ET

Howard Wolfson at his best– Hillary working the night shift? Only words, right Howard? How else could she loan her campaign $5M if she wasn't working the night shift!

Rosado   February 19th, 2008 5:02 pm ET

The woman works hard. MOre than must men! Hillary 08!

M Hill   February 19th, 2008 5:00 pm ET

Oh brother, I don't know too many plain old night shift folks who can afford to come to work dressed in the suit she has on in the ad. Hillary wouldn't know a timeclock from a gas gauge, neither of which she has to care about.
On the other hand, I doubt Boma has had an original thought since his good old ghetto days at Harvard. No wonder he uses other people's quotes so freely.
Give me a break!

Uh, yeah. I fully believe that the wife of an ex-president really had a hard life and understands what it is to work the night shift. GIVE ME A BREAK!!!

JC, Seattle   February 19th, 2008 4:55 pm ET

I'm sure that Hilary WILL work hard for us ...but do we really want someone arranging secretive deals at night and then claiming that she knows what it's like working graveyard or swing shift? Sorry, I just don't believe that giving donors or opposing candidates a working over necessarily equates to understanding those of us who have to work. Working hard to come up with an original campaign slogan just doesn't seem the same as freezing your behind off in the middle of winter while slaving the night away at a non-union job just so you can pay the rent.

Go Hilary Go! Pander pander pander!

What a joke.

Monk   February 19th, 2008 4:54 pm ET

I have had several jobs working the night shift. Currently, as a well paid professional, I often work late and will occasionally pull allnighters.

The fact that Hillary will compare long hours as a lawyer, First Lady, or Senator to working a night shift just shows how out of touch she is!

Obama/Edward '08!

Kshama   February 19th, 2008 4:54 pm ET

In regards to Hillary Clinton's night shift ad:

Get a life everyone. The point HIllary is trying to make is that the reason she is considered a policy wonk, is that she works hard to understand the issues. The next Democratic debate should be interesting! It seems most of the comments above are from Obama supporters. Just becasue Hillary doesn't talk about her background growing up doesn't mean she doesn't know how to work hard. Better yet, have any of you wondered how Obama with only about 2 years in the US Senate qualifies himself to be President of the United States? I think he'll be staying up many nights himself since he doesn't much include any specifics in his speeeches. He'll learn about foreign policy, and domestic issue by making speeches to Congress.

BJ   February 19th, 2008 4:54 pm ET

Really people! After reading all the stupid comments I couldn't resist the need to comment further. None of you know what you are talking about. When Hillary meets the public she presents herself in a professional manner. Do you expect her to go home and change iinto grubbies and pack a small suitcase when she remains at work?! Everyone single one of you know what that ad is all about. You merely wanted the opportunity to be picky, picky, picky. Just as Obama, she got her education to get where she is now. This could go on forever, grow up people. Get back to the real issues and take a long hard look at Obama's campaign as well.

Bayou Joe   February 19th, 2008 4:53 pm ET

Working on the night shift. That is a good line from a country song.
Or, how about "Shift Work" by George Strait. I too worked the night shift for many years and look where it got me. I lost my GM job to a Mexican worker because it was cheaper to build the xmission in Mexico than in Detroit. I think it was Clinton that signed the NAFTA
deal. As Ross Perot would say. "That giant sucking sound you hear is your job going to Mexico." or something like that.

Hillary and Obama tell me how you are going to bring our jobs back.
Also how are you going to send the Illegals back.

Chris, Columbia SC   February 19th, 2008 4:53 pm ET

Does anyone leaving comments here know how many hours Hillary put in after say 8PM while working for the children’s defense fund? Probably NOT! There are probably many other examples where she DID work the night shift for the good of those other than herself, like veterans and National Guard troops. The comment area of CNN’s Political Ticker has become nothing more than a “Bash Hillary Forum.” It is ok for people to state their opinions, but don’t bash someone unless you have your evidence to back-up what you are saying.

NEVERMORE   February 19th, 2008 4:52 pm ET

Work makes you sweat, makes your back ache, puts calluses on your hands. Work is when an object is moved by force over a distance.

It doesn't matter if it's nights or days. Sitting on your backside posing for a potographer doesn't qualify.

Don't worry Hillary, you are not the onlt candidate posing.

C Hall in Seattle   February 19th, 2008 4:51 pm ET

I will give her credit for having a positive ad at least. But I agree that working late into the night isn't the same as a night shift. In my job I've had to work a week or so at a time overnight and I wouldn't dare claim that I understand what it's like to do that for a living.

I think this is sort of like saying that she worked for Wal-Mart, too... or once bought shoes at Payless for a Halloween party.

I'm not going to bash her for having money, but be up front and honest about it and recognize that there are other ways to connect with American citizens.

Of course, I live in a smallish caucus state which went for Obama so what I think doesn't matter anyway. :)

JohnS   February 19th, 2008 4:47 pm ET

I work the late-night shift daily, as an educator. However, I do not wear a 3-piece, just plain jeans or sweater with "holes" in it!

But wait, and take a hard look, as Hillary would say– is she really working like you and me?

Amy, Kazoo   February 19th, 2008 4:46 pm ET

blue collared workers are not the only ones who do shift work or work hard. My husband is a doctor who has to do shift work, works after normal hours, works tirelessly. blue collared workers should not be offended by this.

DfromNY   February 19th, 2008 4:43 pm ET

Kathie   February 19th, 2008 4:43 pm ET

I agree with you Joseph. She has had such a privileged life.

I worked the night shift, double shifts, rotating shifts. Got cancer and got fired. I'd liked to she how she would deal with that. She has no idea what it is like for the average American. She lost my vote a long time ago.

Jorge   February 19th, 2008 4:42 pm ET

Guess which candidate has been known to work around the clock for several days without any shut-eye...?

That would be Hillary Clinton.

She is known for meticulous marathon research binges.

Hillary can and will deliver for Americans in a way that will jump start our economy and standing in the world.

Vote for America ... Vote Hillary!

You Obama fans need to take a breather. Not everything that Mrs. Clinton says and does is bad ! Get a grip, for once just listen to what she has to say with an open mind. You may not agree but do you all always have to insult? Thecracks about President Clinton are old and irrelavent. It's not news anymore. Come up with some new scandals that haven't been investigated ad naseum or don't say anything at all.

Maria, VT   February 19th, 2008 4:33 pm ET

This is so sad. Do they really think that everyone in this country is an idiot and these ads will influence us in a positive way?

BJ   February 19th, 2008 4:31 pm ET

There is no doubt in my mind that Hillary has worked the night shift. Being in the legal field myself, there have been times when I have worked until midnight. Some professionals are working constantly and that means 24/7 in one form or another. She knows how to deal with pressure and handle priorities. With all the difficult hours she puts into her work, she has a calm manner about her and speaks in a manner that everyone can understand. She has great qualities that will make her a great President.

Chip, Ohio   February 19th, 2008 4:31 pm ET

I guess that's why she's missing votes in the Senate lately, the rest of Congress works days.

Mimi   February 19th, 2008 4:31 pm ET

I imagine that if Hillary was working the night shift, she was billing at somewhere around between $150 and 500/hour, and she had a maid. I don't think that's what the rest of American is talking about when they are pulling the night shift.

Becky in Indiana   February 19th, 2008 4:31 pm ET

Until She has worked a REAL night shift I won't believe it. When was the last time she had to clean a toilet or serve coffee. I'm not idiot!

Megan   February 19th, 2008 4:30 pm ET

She definitely represents woman over the age of 45 who are willing to stay in marriages with men who cheat. There is a definite generational gap here. Most of my friends (20s and early 30s) find women who struck out on their own more inspirational than those who have to ride the coattails of a man to get ahead

Billie   February 19th, 2008 4:29 pm ET

Am I missing something, was Hillary president when NAFTA was signed? Even Obama said some remark about Hillary and NAFTA. He doesn't want to run against Bill Clinton so he needs to stop referring to his presidency like it was hers.

Glenn   February 19th, 2008 4:29 pm ET

WORKING THE NIGHT SHIFT????? What a farce. This is a slap in the face of every hardworking american out there. My father loaded planes "on the night shift" he was not sitting in some cozy warm office sucking down starbucks. Yet, he and my mother managed to raise 5 children, put us all through private schools, keep food on the table, etc. They worked exhaustively to raise me and my brother and sisters. Hillary has NO frame of reference for the type of hard work that the average American family knows. If my father read this he would be incensed.

sheikhhasan   February 19th, 2008 4:28 pm ET

do senators have any working shifts? They do not have to show up from 9-5 daily for the day shift, forget the night shift.

Nancy from Maryland   February 19th, 2008 4:28 pm ET

Hillary will say, or do anything that will help her get to where she wants to be. There is no truth in her. Everything she does is calulated and contrived as what she thinks voters want. I'm still amazed the race is so close.....are there that many people who still believe her?

Janet   February 19th, 2008 4:27 pm ET

I have to say that after all is said and done, the deciding factor for me and so many that support Hillary, is that when she had to face the worst situation that any woman (wife) would have to face, infidelity, Hillary put our country and her duties as First Lady first. Having been in that situation, I know the strong character it took to move forward and keep her marriage intact for our country and eventually for each other. This is a woman who has proven that she will always put her duties to the american people first!!

Glenn   February 19th, 2008 4:27 pm ET

She does try to become everything to everybody! But she just doesn't know what night shift work is, to someone who does it to put food on the table! Its not now & then its every night. Its almost never at a desk. She just appears so phony its hard to trust her.

Republican for Obama   February 19th, 2008 4:26 pm ET

As a social worker who really supports those who work the night shift, I think that this add is belittling and offensive. Sure, I’ve stayed at work late, so has my husband…but that is not at all the same! First, compare the salary that most night shift folks are making. Then look at the real issues of the night shift, my focus clientele are the children, and let me tell you about kids who’s parent work the night shift, many of them get up and get ready for school by themselves, come home to an empty house, care for their younger siblings and they are lucky if there is food in the cabinet to fix a meal.

Hillary makes a good salary, has child care, a descent working environment …I could go on and on. I think this add shows a real lack of understanding and may have the opposite effect then intended. Rather then indicating that she’s in the trenches with them, it shows her disconnectedness from reality thinking that she can compare the two.

Alex   February 19th, 2008 4:25 pm ET

People who have cars to build, tables to serve, offices to clean, cattle to feed, these are the ones who work hard! And these were some of the ones that lost their jobs whern NAFTA came along

Tuesday   February 19th, 2008 4:24 pm ET

LOL, now this is priceless....

NORCAL   February 19th, 2008 4:24 pm ET

She has worked day and night people. She has fought long and hard for so many issues civil rights, migrant workers rights, medical benefits, childrens issues, etc. Read about her then you will be able to make your comments. I was not completely sold until I read an UNAUTHORIZED BOOK ABOUT HILLARY, now she is an INSPIRATION to me and hopefully to so many who had no idea what she has really done in her lifetime, even pre-Bill C. Wakeup America!

Hillary 08'

CNN please dont erase this comment like my others!

Mike   February 19th, 2008 4:23 pm ET

To really understand what working people have to endure, has Hillary ever been laid off from a job that is all she has to feed the kids and pay the rent? Many people WANT to work in America. It's just that the JOBS that have gone overseas thanks to the Clintons and NAFTA.

Sarah L, Fayetteville, AR   February 19th, 2008 4:23 pm ET

This ad is somewhat preposterous. Since leaving lawschool, Senator Clinton has had nothing but high-paying jobs. Obama is the one who left Harvard to work for the underpriveleged.

Michael   February 19th, 2008 4:22 pm ET

This is a great ad. Very positive and supportive to the working people of this country.

Great job!

TiBWA   February 19th, 2008 4:21 pm ET

When ppl are working the night shift. They do not dress up like Hillary did in this picture.

What job is that? Some fancy party in Manathan or in Washimgton?

good ad. Politics at its finest. The Clinton's are good!

I fully support Hillary Clinton for President even before day one !! She's the only one who's got experinace and talent, and the only one who can beat McCain. She does understand situation about healthcare, I am the one effected with it. MY VOTE TO HILLARY !!!!

Marcella Ortiz   February 19th, 2008 4:19 pm ET

Work is work ! I am sure Hillary has worked plenty to get where she is. Thirty-Five years of professional work experience to lead our countrty speaks volumes! Let the WOMAN lead. HILLARY is the BEST choice. Hillary for PRESIDENT !!!

Margi   February 19th, 2008 4:18 pm ET

What is the American family agenda you are putting forth? I am tired of working the night shift and the day shift just to buy food and keep a roof over our heads. Oh, by the way I can't loan $100 to myself.

buckeye   February 19th, 2008 4:17 pm ET

The Clinton campaign wants you to think that Senator Obama is dumb, lazy and nothing but a charming pretty face.

Then why has Senator Obama been endorsed by over 100 newspapers, including the seven largest papers in Texas alone?

People with advanced degrees are more likely to support Obama (they do know something about being at their desks late at night, by the way).

Ted   February 19th, 2008 4:15 pm ET

You have to wonder at times how the Clinton campaign makes its decisions, and what it would mean if, Heaven forbid, she ever got real power. Everything from her campaign is either viciously negative, amateurish, dumb, or all of the above.

landon   February 19th, 2008 4:12 pm ET

What political ad is believable? I'll wait!

ben   February 19th, 2008 4:11 pm ET

I don't see why people hate Hillary so much. I don't!
I am for Obama, but I will continue to say I can't hate anyone on either side. They are all good Americans.

David B   February 19th, 2008 4:11 pm ET

Hillary has worked many night shifts waiting for Bill to come home and trying to get a handle on what the definition of IS really is!!!!!!!
The time for cooperation has finally found a candidate.

pj   February 19th, 2008 4:10 pm ET

wow, i hope no one buys into this! a lady who lent her campaign 5 million and is worth a reported 35million (we would know more if she release her tax returns) can not possibly claim to empathise with voters who works double shifts just to put food on the table.

if they buy this line, then good for them – they deserve what they get.

Sara   February 19th, 2008 4:10 pm ET

How offensive to blue collar workers for her to compare herself with us!

Anonymous   February 19th, 2008 4:09 pm ET

Who works the night shift in a buisness suit and pearls?? I thought she was trying to relate to us not mock us!!

Hmm....   February 19th, 2008 4:08 pm ET

Hey Hillary!

Working at your little desk in your multi-million dollar home in the evenings after someone else fixes your dinner and cleans up after you is not QUITE the same thing as slogging out at ten o'clock at night to put in an 8, 10, 12-hour shift.

She really needs to get over herself.

bogie813   February 19th, 2008 4:07 pm ET

Yes, she does work hard. I want that a heck of a lot more than I want speeches, especially when they are not even the words of the one doing all the talking.

maria   February 19th, 2008 4:07 pm ET

Is nice she 'works' at her desk all dressed up... coat, jewelry, low light... when i work at night i get comfy for the long night ahead lolol....

Give us a break!!! are we that dumb?!?!?

maria

Kevin   February 19th, 2008 4:06 pm ET

Is she also underpaid?

Ed   February 19th, 2008 4:05 pm ET

I know Hillary has been working day and night for this country for 35 years. I have so much respect for her and her husband and I hope she becomes President in November 2008...God bless her!

Media Watch   February 19th, 2008 4:03 pm ET

At least their ads are getting funny...

Boomer For Change   February 19th, 2008 4:02 pm ET

Well, I worked the "night shift" to help put myself through college and to also support my 4 children. We called it the "graveyard shift." Now I work at my desk late at night too. Hmmmm...I am 55 yrs old, and I can't remember anything Hillary did for me...So what is she promising to do for those people working the night shift niow???? I guess this is just an "empathy" ad. I guess she stays up late at night in her office "thinking" about those night shift workers. How nice. Something tells me she is staying up late at night trying to figure out how she can enhance her career... or maybe she is trading cattle futures online or something. Sorry, I don't buy it....and thinking people won't buy it either.

Vince Los Angeles, CA   February 19th, 2008 4:02 pm ET

oh yeah...she works the night shift.......in a jacket, pearls and a comfortable desk.......GIVE ME A BREAK!!!

Charlotte   February 19th, 2008 4:02 pm ET

Wow... how patronizing can you get.

Evan   February 19th, 2008 4:01 pm ET

"oh boy! Hillary is one of us! She's so blue-collar and average. We all know that every factory worker has millions of spare dollars just laying around to donate to ourselves. She really represents us good! Girl power!!"

Ratgurl   February 19th, 2008 4:01 pm ET

Working the night shift will soon be the norm in order for the American people to get health care coverage under Hillary's plan. We'll all be working second (& third) jobs!

David, Dallas Tx   February 19th, 2008 4:00 pm ET

And like so many Americans, she was an employee of Wal-Mart! Of course, sitting on the Board of Directors isn't exactly the same thing as standing at the cash register until dawn.

If Hillary is so pro-blue-collar, why is she serving the interests of the Insurance Companies instead of protecting the the poor? Forcing the poorest Americans to buy insurance they can't afford isn't in THEIR interests!

Get real, Hillary. Even more than the Republicans, you're the Big Money candidate, not the Blue Collar candidate.

Liz PA   February 19th, 2008 3:59 pm ET

In Congress there are showhorses and workhorses. Hillary takes her job seriously and I have no doubt she has worked late into the night since she is a proven workhorse.

Megan   February 19th, 2008 3:59 pm ET

Hmmm. I don't think that's quite the same thing. Nice try, though. Anyone who knows anything about HRC knows better.

Jason - Visalia, CA   February 19th, 2008 3:57 pm ET

Now that is comedy. Next it's going to be, "I was poor once too, I remember what it was like to be hurting for money"

Felipe   February 19th, 2008 3:57 pm ET

I don't think the Clintons have experienced hardships.
Take Chelsea: Right out of college she landed on a 6 figure job, that is $100,000 a year (or more) while many people, including people with PhD's don't reach that level of compensation during their lifetime

Suzanne   February 19th, 2008 3:57 pm ET

That is too funny for words. Clinton has never had an economically hard day in her life. She chose to make a ton of money off of law work and big corporations.

She has stooped to a new level.

toebaby   February 19th, 2008 3:57 pm ET

Working late at her desk? You've gotta be kidding! I laughed at this! I mean, is that even comparable to working in a factory or restaurant or hospital???? Who are her advisers? There's two kinds of late shifts. I have pulled some long nights myself, but I wouldn't compare the two. Ya know?

La Raza   February 19th, 2008 3:57 pm ET

Aw come on Hillary .... the night shift?

Lois   February 19th, 2008 3:56 pm ET

There is a huge difference in working late at my desk and working the night shift. Give me a break! She doesn't have a clue as to working the night shift. Those of us that work the night shift have no sympathy for her.......Get a real job and work the night shift.

Kay   February 19th, 2008 3:55 pm ET

RIDICULOUS! Does Hillary understand what it means to work the night shift? She will do and say anything to get the nomination.

David Fisher   February 19th, 2008 3:54 pm ET

Exactly when did she work the night shift? I wish our politicians would stick to factual claims.

I am tired of all of them and have decided I am giving Barack my vote.

Kim, Sacramento, CA   February 19th, 2008 3:54 pm ET

HRC may have worked some "late nights" but never a traditional night shift and definintely not for the wage that a vast majoirty of traditional night shift workers earn. Give me a break here.

wrong photo..   February 19th, 2008 3:54 pm ET

Working late should have shown Billary shreding the tax docs she's hiding!!!

Roz, IL   February 19th, 2008 3:53 pm ET

Whatever, she's so fake, phony and two- faced. I work 12 hour nights also, and not behind a desk.

Elena   February 19th, 2008 3:53 pm ET

The truth is, she's not lying. As a blue collar upstate New Yorker I can honestly say she is one of the few who's had our backs!

keith   February 19th, 2008 3:52 pm ET

As someone who used to work a lot of midnight-8am night shifts and aware of what that does to your body, mind, and relationship to the rest of the world, I find it a bit condescending for her to say she's worked the night shift too. I'm sure she works hard, but don't use that phrase so coyly.

SID   February 19th, 2008 3:52 pm ET

Shs clearly does not understand what it means to work the night shift.

HOW LONG DOES SHE (and her camp.) THINK THE AMERICAN PUBLIC WILL BE FOOLED BY THIS SLAP IN THE FACE ADVERTISING?

WE ARE NOT FOOLED........

YOU NEVER WORKED A JOB THAT HAD YOU AWAY FROM HOME,YOUR KIDS AND LOVED ONES.

YOU NEVER WATCHED THE SUN COME UP IN THE MORNING WHILE AT WORK . TRYING TO PUT FOOD ON THE TABLE.

Or when you are the second highest "paid" member of congress receiving money from medical insurance and drug companies.

NEXT!

W.A.   February 19th, 2008 3:48 pm ET

Ha!

Just so America knows, since I doubt most supporters do their homework, the Clinton's are worth over 50 MILLION dollars. Bill and Hillary made most of that money while Bill was in office. AND they refuse to release tax returns–something that Obama HAS done.

She has worked the nightshift... I love it.

Obama '08!!

alex   February 19th, 2008 3:48 pm ET

wow this candidate stops at nothing to get what she wants..."She worked the night shift, too."????? Come on, the only night shift she has ever worked was when she did taping of this ridiculous ad.

John   February 19th, 2008 3:47 pm ET

I think I need to put my boots on for this one. I dont think someone that can loan her compaign $5 million can truly empathize with someone that works the night shift to make ends meet. I dont know, but that is just me. When was she ever that strapped for cash? The woman will do and say anything to get elected. Watch out America!

Phyllis   February 19th, 2008 3:47 pm ET

Working at a desk at night no where approximates a true night shift. I have done both working my way through college and working professionally. It is a slap in the face to equate the two. Even the rationale behind them is different. Workers work the night shift because they have to do so to survive. Working overtime at night is a choice where decide how long, where and under what conditions. Please give me a break Hillary. When was the last time you got your hands dirty in machinery or human spoilage? When was the last time you really worked a night shift?

Oregon4Obama   February 19th, 2008 3:45 pm ET

Holy god Hillary....everyone has worked the night shift......Just becuase your night shift is in an office doesnt mean you can instantly relate to warehouse night shift workers, or anyone......you are really begging to be liked are'nt ya......its cute

Steve Gilbert   February 19th, 2008 3:45 pm ET

You've got to be kidding me. "I've got millions of dollars in the bank, but hey, I know what it's like." Working late at night behind a desk and working a night shift at a steel mill on a meager salary to make ends meet are not the same.

Do people really buy this garbage?

Allen   February 19th, 2008 3:45 pm ET

She's also worked to vote for the Iraq war, and now she's working really hard to pretend she didn't.

She is politics as usual. If she is the Dem nominee there will be no difference between her and her best friend John McCain in the general election.

A vote for Hillary is a vote for four more years of Bush/McCain Republicans.

Dennis   February 19th, 2008 3:44 pm ET

I can see the message she is trying to convey, but given the criteria: that she has worked late at night at her desk, I think many of us have worked the night shift that aren't blue collar. I suspect all the current candidates have. That seems to be the nature of politics and government work in Washington. Somehow singling herself out as the one candidate that has worked long hours in her job doesn't seem appropriate.

Gerry Smith   February 19th, 2008 3:44 pm ET

Working late at night hardly compares to working a true "night shift". This is really insulting to those of us who have actually worked a regular night shift to earn a paycheck. How out of touch from real working people these "white collar" lawyer / politicians like Hillary are !

Mark C. Eades   February 19th, 2008 3:43 pm ET

Right: Hillary is overworked, underpaid, and overlooked, just like any of us working the night shift for subsistence wages. If she really is just like the rest of us, then why can't we see her tax returns?

Lightning   February 19th, 2008 3:43 pm ET

This is an insult to blue collar workers everywhere.

Comparing Hillary sitting in her lush office as a corporate lawyer for Wal-Mart to the back-breaking work so many men and women do every night is outrageous.

ILoveAmerica   February 19th, 2008 3:43 pm ET

Working late at night is not the same as working the night shift. If she ever HAD worked the night shift, she would understand this very well.

(It appears that Howard Wolfson has never worked the night shift, either.)

CE, Wisconsin, USA   February 19th, 2008 3:42 pm ET

Oh, Please!

Jimbo   February 19th, 2008 3:42 pm ET

Don't be fooled. Look at the facts, look at their history.

Hillary Clinton brouoght the #1 outsourcer of US jobs to India into NY. They employ 10 people in NY, and they outsource $4 billion annually in US jobs.

Bill Clinton expanded H-1 and L-1, bringing thousands upon thousands of foreigners here for the sole purpose of taking good paying jobs away from Americans.

Bill Clinton also signed in NAFTA, which has been disastrous for American Workers.

The Clintons never got it, and still don't.

Farrell, Houston, Tx   February 19th, 2008 3:42 pm ET

Right now millions of people without a job are looking for that overworked, underpaid and overlooked "Night Shift" job. Hillary says "she understands" but does she really, really understand.

HRC   February 19th, 2008 3:39 pm ET

"overworked, underpaid, and sometimes overlooked..." just like the Wal-mart employees I refused to stand up for when I was on the infamous union-busting board.

But vote for me now and things will be different. My past actions don't matter and my opponent's words don't matter, all that matters is my gender and what I tell you to do now.

By the way, working at your desk when you are making $100,000+ with annual bonuses in the tens of thousands of dollars IS working the night shift.

Alan   February 19th, 2008 3:39 pm ET

An insult it sure is when those with Wellesley and Harvard education pretend to know what blue collar life is like. I am sure those hard working 12 hour shift people will sympathize.
This whole thing is the biggest fairy tale I've ever seen in my entire life.

An Obamacan   February 19th, 2008 3:38 pm ET

Propaganda at it's best and ugliest.

nurse4obama   February 19th, 2008 3:37 pm ET

Give me a break. Working late at your desk is nothing like working the night shift. It is insulting to anyone who has ever worked the night shift. Hillary says she understands single parents. I was a single parent working the night shift at a hospital hoping and praying that my children were safe with the person I entrusted my children while I worked. I would have had a much greater peace of mind staying up late in my home office while my children slept. Lets get real Hillary.

Trading Wine for Beer   February 19th, 2008 3:37 pm ET

I used to be for John Edwards, but now I think that Barack Obama is the best candidate to lead our nation. From either party.

JP SW   February 19th, 2008 3:37 pm ET

Thank God someone at least hears that there are people who do jobs and work when everyone else is asleep. I did for 15 years. Doctors, nurses, support people in hospitals, firemen, police officers, sanitary workers, cooks, street sweeper and many more do.

I would say every US Senator has worked many a night serving this country.

bill pike   February 19th, 2008 3:36 pm ET

clintons are wealthy, making more money than 90% of the people, AND WORKING THE NIGHT SHIFT???? OK????

Adam, Los Angeles   February 19th, 2008 3:34 pm ET

ya right...because she's certainly underpaid and overlooked!

Who does she think she's kidding? There's a big difference between working 2 jobs at $6.25/hr and making the untold amounts of money (literally untold; she won't release her income statement–probably millions of dollars) Senator Clinton does.

Give me a break!

Jason   February 19th, 2008 3:34 pm ET

I would think that every candidate has worked the night shift if this is in regards to having to work late into the night pouring over strategies and polls.
But she's probably never had to actually punch a timeclock and "work the night shift" at any company, which I think is what this ad is referring too. Probably none of the candidates have had to do that.

Chris from Ohio   February 19th, 2008 3:34 pm ET

I'd like to know what "night shift" job allows you to cough up $5 million big ones without blinking an eye. I'd stay up late to work that job.

daniela   February 19th, 2008 3:33 pm ET

I do believe she really cares.
she is a strong woman who does not run in front of adversity.

Grif   February 19th, 2008 3:33 pm ET

360 for Hillary. 24/7 is what she stands for...

Go Girl, every minute counts... Just like every little Mite in the USA, also counts.

sam   February 19th, 2008 3:33 pm ET

What an insulting ad for ordinary workers who work the night shift! When was the last time Hillary Clinton worked the kind of night shift jobs 99% of hard working Americans are involved in? Please, this is a new low in trying to understand the plight of working families who have to make ends meet every other week. Clinton has just lost thousands, if not millions of votes for this ad comparing her plush jobs over the years to ordinary workers who have no choice but to do the night shifts!!!

Joseph   February 19th, 2008 3:32 pm ET

Hillary Clinton has NEVER worked the night shift!

I'm totally offended by this ad. How can she claim with her priveleged upbringing that she can identify with people that work hard for a living?

I've worked the nightshift. I've worked two jobs to make ends meet.

This woman has no idea what that is like.

I will never support anything this woman ever does based on this ad.

Steve, Chelsea, MI   February 19th, 2008 3:32 pm ET

So has Clinton worked the night shift? Spokesman Howard Wolfson said Tuesday that "the reference is to her working late at night at her desk."

Well, I have worked the night shift, as in 11PM to 7AM, and I support Barack Obama.

kathleen, illinois   February 19th, 2008 3:32 pm ET

It is OK to work the night shift. Big Deal. Are we supposed to
fall in wonderment of Hillary for working the night shift? Is she
thinking up more attacks for Obama? and Michell? It was a dirty
trick to attack Obama the night before the Election. I am tired of the dirty old political attacks on Obama. Anyone that does not see this,
is a fool. I want honest government this time. Everything the Obama
camp says, gets taken out of context or blown out of proportion.
Bill says, the people forget the legacy of his presidency by not
voting for Hillary. Does the Clinton's think they are "ENTITLED"
for another White House "GIG". Are the Clinton's super surprised
at the popularity of Obama? They thought and "knew" they were
going to win. PS. OBAMA and Deval Patrick are friends that share
ideas. Obama stated to the Boston Globe back in April. Hillary saved
it til now.

Marylynette Ferguson   February 19th, 2008 3:31 pm ET

As a nursing executive responsible for staffing hospitals I am offended by Hillary's ad. There's no way she knows what its like to work nights. There's a big diffference in being at home (working) and being responsible for the lives of many patients. Hillary, dear, you don't know what stress is until you have a patient crash at the same time that your 8 other patients also need help.

Maybe if Hillary had better leadership skills like Barack – she wouldn't have to work so hard.

Shey   February 19th, 2008 3:31 pm ET

I see a slight difference in working 'the night shift' while you're comfortable knowing that there's millions in the bank....OR working the 'night shift' because it's what it's going to take to pay that outrageous utility bill and that you're close to bankrupt if you don't.

She isn't 'one of us'. None of them are. And we can't expect them to be. They've worked hard for what they have, so this isn't an 'hate the rich' statement. But........they aren't us. She wants to appear to be 'one of us' so she can get our votes and hold the most powerful position in the country. Using us is more like it.
Politicians have never solved anything. We have to look to ourselves for our solutions.

Harsh Reality   February 19th, 2008 3:30 pm ET

If Hillary is a blue-collar worker, then I'm the Pope.

Tom Wittmann   February 19th, 2008 3:30 pm ET

Very touching !!

But possibly the flip-flop of her campaign and the mistakes she makes are due to lack of sleep !!

TOM

pam,s.c.   February 19th, 2008 3:29 pm ET

she works nights just trying to figure out how to steal this nomination from the voters. i am a nurse do not compare yourself to my noble profession . nurses are not racist. you are no florence nightingale.

Irishspacemonk   February 19th, 2008 3:28 pm ET

This is so fake. Clinton doesn't no the slightest what it feels like to work the night shift. It's not about the hours, it's about the hopelessness of working in a situation where you can't escape. Clinton is too well off to understand what this feels like.

L in Virginia   February 19th, 2008 3:28 pm ET

Come on, Hillary – why stop there? How bout an ad with you driving a tractor trailer and texting Musharraf while saving the world at the same time . Or maybe an ad with you booking your flight to China online to negotiate on trade while working the Micky-dees drive thru. Give me a break!

Get Real   February 19th, 2008 3:27 pm ET

First of all who cares! These ads are so tired and inauthentic! We are not that unitelligent/uneducated to know when someone is trying to schmooze us..well unless you are voting for Hillary which does make up a good percentage of her base!

Ellis Wyatt   February 19th, 2008 3:26 pm ET

Wow, how offensive.

Sorry Hillary, but I work the real night shift. 10:00 PM until 6:00 AM... 40 hours a week... then I work a day job too... as well as working on a Bachelor's degree.

Sitting at your desk is not working the night shift.

I'm voting for Barack Obama.

brendan   February 19th, 2008 3:25 pm ET

What an exciting and informative news story.

Dave   February 19th, 2008 3:25 pm ET

Let ask Hillary and outsource – She gets Tata consultant in Buffallo, promise to increase jobs, but in the end – Tata only hired 10 peoples since open the office, and defer all the works to India.

Maybe she is working real hard to find another outsource company to take your jobs away

Why hasn't the AFL-CIO recomends her ? is there something else she is hiding ?

Tivis Powers   February 19th, 2008 3:25 pm ET

Can she really relate to someone working a night shift? Ad is clearly leaving out the fact that the Clintons are worth about $35 mil. and thats a lowball estimate. Hillary won't release her tax returns so we really don't know...do we????

Obamacan   February 19th, 2008 3:25 pm ET

I notice that Clinton is trying to make herself look like a low income citizen when she say Bush cut tax for the well connected, top tier income people. Isn't this her?? Haven't Bill ans she prospered from NAFTA, which Bill signed into law and Hillary championed. They have in companies overseas that benefit from NAFTA.

lc   February 19th, 2008 3:25 pm ET

WORKING THE NIGHT SHIFT IN ORDER TO PUT FOOD ON THE

TABLE AND TO PAY THE RENT BECAUSE ONE CANNOT AFFORD

TO BUY A HOUSE IS NOT THE SAME AS STUDyING AT ONE'S DESK

UNTIL YOU DESIRE TO GO TO BED. HILLARY HAD A CHOICE, A

LOT OF AMERICAN SHIFT WORKERS DO NOT.

Do not insult our intelligence or act as though you have lived our plight.

Why does she feel as though she has to be something other than herself in order to get votes????

I support Obama, but I am losing respect for the way she is running her campaign. I used to think that although her "35" yrs experience line was a farce, that her and Obama were pretty equal when it came down to everything else except personality and character.

Now I really wonder how she can run this country if she cannot run an effective campaign. Can she not lose with pride and dignity? I think she should be able to lose and still demonstrate that she would make a god president. However, I do not even think she has demonstrated that she would make a good president one day or any day.

For example:
Why was Hillary talking about drnking a BEER in Madison, WI with what looks like a 4yr old little girl directly behind her and hundreds of under age voters in the audience????

HOW IRRESPONSIBLE!!!

I guess her attempt to be "cool" and yet the candidate with solutions has backfired!!!!

****************************************************************************

And what is Hillary afraid that Chelsea will disclose if she is interviewed??????????? I am just curious.

DJ   February 19th, 2008 3:24 pm ET

I just don't understand..at least make the scenarion look realistic. If she was really working she would have taken that jacket off and really dug in..Quit creating false images of what you do. And We are so tired of hearing about your 35 years of whatever....

Leo   February 19th, 2008 3:24 pm ET

Wow, when I worked the night shift I did not get to wear pearls and have on a suit. I wore a uniform with no jewelry, where did she work the night shift?

Pia,NJ   February 19th, 2008 3:24 pm ET

What a laugh! Working the nightshift indeed! Hillary has had someone work for her, her whole life.

Lucas, Nashville TN   February 19th, 2008 3:23 pm ET

::SNICKER::

That's all. Got nothing more. This is such transparent crap that all I can do is laugh.

Obama has worked the REAL night shift – as a community organizer, not an entitled politician.

Lynne   February 19th, 2008 3:22 pm ET

I am sure Senator Clinton has 'worked the night shift'. I am not attempting to be flippant; however, if I were attempting to appeal to the blue collar workers, I believe I would lose the pearls and the expensive suit. I am a professional, and when I work the 'night shift', I wear jeans or sweats...

david   February 19th, 2008 3:22 pm ET

How can anyone NOT vote for this woman?

Nattie Karma   February 19th, 2008 3:21 pm ET

It is an insult for Senetor Clinton to joke about night shifts when she never worked one. She is not over worked and under paid, we are!! She should stop using us for her political mirage.

Peter Canada 4 Obama!   February 19th, 2008 3:21 pm ET

Hillary will work harder for the lobbyiest when if she become the president of the United State of America.
All those money she has taken from Lobbyiest and special interest group how will she pay for them ? You have to pay them in some ways Hillary.

Working hard to ship our job oversea is not working hard for America.

Declare you tax info Hillary if you have nothing to hide why can't you disclose your taxes.

Obama and the rest of the candidate have declare their .

DJW   February 19th, 2008 3:20 pm ET

Mrs. Clinton I am sure your night shift is not the same as a Blue Collar night shift. This will blow up in your face!!!

Patty Don't   February 19th, 2008 3:20 pm ET

pander, pander, pander

James   February 19th, 2008 3:20 pm ET

Keep up the good work Hillary, you have my full support!!!

In Shock   February 19th, 2008 3:18 pm ET

I honestly do not think working the night shift as an attorney or even as a summer clerk while in law school can begin to compare with some poor woman working the night shift up on her feet all night just to make ends meet.

/teresa, leav, ks   February 19th, 2008 3:18 pm ET

Hillary is a hard worker. I am proud of the way she represents women. Go HIllary

Larry Dickman - IA   February 19th, 2008 3:18 pm ET

Give me a break. What's next? She works on the weekend to? She represents the State of New York, of course she is going to work nights.

No More Old Guard   February 19th, 2008 3:17 pm ET

What a joke. Working the night shift = working late? Give me a break.

JR   February 19th, 2008 3:16 pm ET

Hillary should be getting credit for being exactly who she is – a hard-working mother who has courageously balanced a demanding professional career, life in the public eye and her family. None of Obama's sexist remarks (about Hillary "feeling down" and her "claws" coming out) will negate what Hillary has achieved or the fact that she is a strong, capable woman and candidate.

Ricky Marlin, New Orleans, LA   February 19th, 2008 3:15 pm ET

They might want to re-word that.

John   February 19th, 2008 3:15 pm ET

Oh come on!

Kentucky   February 19th, 2008 3:14 pm ET

I use to work the night shift at an Auto plant. You Hillary still have a job. When you and your husband put the stamp of approval on the NAFTA deal, I lost mine.

Jules   February 19th, 2008 3:13 pm ET

I am 100% an Obama supporter but this is a really great ad and the kind both campaigns ought to be putting out there. If only she did more of these instead of the other negative kinds, then Obama would not be forced to fire back and we could watch all the ads without flinching.

Frank in Missouri   February 19th, 2008 3:10 pm ET

That's a joke ... Then I am Bob the Builder because I have a hammer at home. Say whatever it takes, pretend whatever you need ...

Zappy D   February 19th, 2008 3:10 pm ET

Oh come on! Political advertising at it's worst. The ad is not believable.

brenda-k   February 19th, 2008 3:10 pm ET

I'll skip the one-liners about her husband working the night shift too...I'll just say that I don't know any waitresses or hairdresses who could loan anyone five million dollars.

godlesspriest   February 19th, 2008 3:08 pm ET

So when, for example, a corporate lawyer pulls an all-nighter to get the documents for a merger finalized, that's working the night shift? Wow, i'll get instant street cred when I graduate.

Texas4Obama   February 19th, 2008 3:08 pm ET

Hillary working at her desk after the sun has gone down is NOTHING like real people that go out to work and HAVE TO work at night. Give me a break!

Obama '08 – the candidate for ALL Americans

Jeff Spangler, Arlington, VA   February 19th, 2008 3:07 pm ET

Bill worked the night shift too, but under a different desk.
