The 1.4-million Teamsters union will endorse Sen. Barack Obama, sources tell CNN.

(CNN) - Two Democratic sources tell CNN's Candy Crowley the International Brotherhood of Teamsters will endorse Barack Obama.

The Teamsters represents roughly 1.4 million members, making it one of the largest and influential labor unions.

Obama was endorsed Friday by the Service Employees International Union, the largest union with a membership of 1.5 million.

The Obama campaign also announced that the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers had decided to back the Illinois senator's White House bid.

UPDATE: Obama will meet with Teamsters leader James Hoffa later Wednesday.

Oh this is SO shocking. The Teamsters are usually SO conservative!

bo   February 20th, 2008 5:33 pm ET

yeah, it's easy to endorse someone when they already look like they're going to win. now obama will owe them. politics as usual.

i voted dem in the past, but obama is ridiculous and clueless. mccain's going to get my vote.

Gloria, New York   February 20th, 2008 5:32 pm ET

I think Barack is just the man to bring this country into the new millennium and change the course of the nation. I was once a loyal Hillary supporter until I heard Barack speak of change and hope.

Althought I starting reading his book "Audacity of Hope" before he decided to run for president and I was completly taken aback.

Barack has my complet support.

"Yes! we can"

NORCALMOM   February 20th, 2008 5:19 pm ET

Wow, I would never follow vote because my Union endorsed someone/something. The Union does not take a vote from the members this is what the Union Heads Want! TEAMSTERS you are smart do what you think is right not what your UNION wants you to. I support Unions, but not them dictating who they think we should vote for kind of like the Media, huh?

Debby   February 20th, 2008 4:14 pm ET

All I can say is remember JFK and all his union endorsements and where it got him.

justin   February 20th, 2008 3:52 pm ET

How can Union folk even consider Hillary.
while on the board of Walmart they fought our right to organize tooth and nail. Go OBAMA

Arthur K   February 20th, 2008 3:48 pm ET

1. McCain is a Maverick who draws support from moderates and independents and needs to work to win over his base.
2. Obama is the outsider who draws support from moderates and independents but also enjoys the support of his base.
3. Hillary is an establishment candidate who draws support from the base and would need to work very hard to win over moderates and independents.
4. This country is not looking for the next president to continue the divisiveness we have seen over the past 8 years.
5. No matter which candidate is chosen from the left McCain can and will claim they lack experience.

Unless you disagree with one of the statements above you can not possibly believe that Hillary has a chance of beating McCain in November.

Whoever this "AND???" person is, you must be really young. Apparently you arent old enough to vote yet. Dont hate on Obama. He's the real deal. Maybe you should watch the debates and make up your own mind. My dad doesnt think for me. You shouldnt let yours thing for you.

That does it for me. I am jumping all over this one. If the teamsters like him then for sure i am going with McCain.

L.W.   February 20th, 2008 3:17 pm ET

Congrats to Obama and his loyal supporters, at least he acknowledges his losses and win's. Unlike Hillary, why is it that she never acknowledges the supporters that did come out to vote for her? Sounds like sour grapes to me. Oh and by the way Hillary
We are still waiting for you to release your tax returns. Unless.....you have something to hide. hmmmm....

Tammy   February 20th, 2008 2:55 pm ET

Jean, just like you will never vote for Obama, there are many of us who will never vote for H.C. But at the end of the day, we have to get the Republicans out of office! We have lost sight of why the war was supposedly started in the first place. Now we are seen internationally as bullies, forcing our way of life on other countries who really don't want it! Some of these groups will continue fighting and bombing each other until the last one is gone. They have fought for thousands of years and will continue to do so! Finally, we have someone that is bold enough to say enough is enough, at least for our troops!

Fernandez   February 20th, 2008 2:41 pm ET

Obama will you accept an endorsment from the Teamster Union?
Another special interest group that is spending money on your behalf.

DrFill   February 20th, 2008 2:38 pm ET

If Edwards is going to have his endorsement mean anything, he needs to get it done by next week.
Third major union endorsement in 2 weeks for Obama.
May have influence over Texas Latinos too.

Jean   February 20th, 2008 2:20 pm ET

As a proud union I will never vote for Obama no matter who endorses him.

Mark   February 20th, 2008 2:20 pm ET

I think it is sad that you turned your back on Hillary. I think we need a president that will do more than make nice speeches. An example is last night on Hardball, Matthews asked the Obama supporter what Obama has done in the legislature and the supporter had no answer. This is true for so many Obama supporters. They have been drawn in on the speeches and do not see the reality. Obama has been making many cheap shots at Hillary and when she does it, she is considered playing negative. There is a double standard in the media when it comes to Hillary. Whether it is gender based or Clinton based, anything she does is over analyzed and blown out of proportion. She is the best candidate to run our country and is losing because she can't deliver a speech as Obama can. Will America wake up before it is too late!?

U.S. Army Vet.   February 20th, 2008 2:19 pm ET

The U.S. American people are choosing Sen. Obama. Hillary Clinton should be careful not to damage the overall goals of her own party at the risk of turning increasingly negative toward her opponent. No one is listening to her message because they can only hear Sen. Obama's positive message of change and participation.

I guess he really is walking in J.F.k.'s Footsteps now he too has organized crime behind him. But remember the Mafia is a Fickle Mistress.

Sam   February 20th, 2008 2:17 pm ET

It's better for Clinton and Democartic party to stop her Campaign and endorse Obama. If I were in her place I will appreciate my opponent and get out of the race. Her speaches and attacking OBAMA working against her.

Omoruyi   February 20th, 2008 2:17 pm ET

I think McCain made a fool of his old age by saying Obama has no experience. Obama is doing more better than McCain,at least Obama has ideas and plans for everyone, but McCain has none except for those he is going to take over from his God father(Bush) which led us into the mess we are now.

Here in Britain   February 20th, 2008 2:16 pm ET

For someone who is supposedly not the establishment candidate he is getting an awful lot of the establishment behind him.

It's worrying that he now has the mafia's vote.

Concerned Voter   February 20th, 2008 2:15 pm ET

I am with Michael. Lets get some real candidates, like Hillary and McCain. Then we have a choice. Obama cannot win in November and I have no faith in a vision. I need to see qualifications and a record.

For H. Clinton   February 20th, 2008 2:14 pm ET

If H.Clinton does not get this Democratic endorsement. I am voteing for Jonn Mc Cain and you will find a lot of Democratics doing the same !

Obama, is not the man for this job!

The best choice for this country will be John MCcain.Democrats have tried to tear and have almost succeded in shredding their strongest candidate and their cult hero Obama is just not qualified for the job .Union support may further help this process along.
Democrats are just ddicted to general election losses.

Tom   February 20th, 2008 2:03 pm ET

Much as I like and respect the Obama movement, I think certain unfortunate realities will rule. Democracy comes from the latin words "demos" meaning "white man" and "cracy" meaning "in blue suits". Only McCain fits this definition.

E   February 20th, 2008 2:02 pm ET

I wonder if Pelosi will step in, and stop the bleeding?

Maybe Madame Speaker is enjoying the Clinton demise!

Jessica   February 20th, 2008 2:00 pm ET

To ADV: I love it. Seeing all these Republicans thinking they are being divisive, crossing party lines to vote Obama in the primaries, only to say that they'll vote McCain in November. Don't they realize that Obama actually has a better chance of beating McCain, especially considering all the independent votes he siphons off both McCain and Clinton? Keep crossing, Republicans - we love your support!

I'm 27 years old and there's been a Bush or Clinton in the White House as either Pres or Vice Pres MY ENTIRE LIFE!!! Let's change up the dance card, America!

Obama 08!

I think Hillary supporters could be poor losers???????????

C.H., Texas   February 20th, 2008 1:58 pm ET

Vince from LA, get real. I am not upset, just disappointed with my democratic party. It's disheartening to see how people can be so blind that "Experience" doesn't matter. I mean common sense tells you that when you go and apply for a top position at any company the first thing they look at is your experience. But I guess in this day and age applying for the most powerful position in this country does not require any. No wonder we're the laughing stock of this world. I know for one thing, if Obama is our nominee I will vote for John McCain in a heartbeat. And I am not alone. Our country is in disarray and we need a true leader to guide us through, not some American Idol protoge!

Heather Peterson   February 20th, 2008 1:53 pm ET

I don't know about Hillary, but I'm having fun : )

Brenda   February 20th, 2008 1:53 pm ET

O.K. people – this is it. Our chance at a real presidential race where ALL the primaries and caucauses count! Like the old 80's song says "give me something to believe in" .... Obama has, and I say that being a registered Republican! Honestly, what president has ever been able to fulfill all the campaign promises? Even those with all the praised experience haven't been able to do it, not that they did a bad job, they just weren't able to. So I ask, what is the harm in giving a chance to someone who has brought out record breaking numbers of voters? It's something to believe in....... :)

M J   February 20th, 2008 1:52 pm ET

clinton is shelfish, and wants to explore her own political ambition but not for the benefit of this country. the country need a new direction otherwise the republicans will get some grounds...

Congratulations to Wisconsin voters for doing the
right thing. Those voters came out in the freezing
5 degree weather and snow up above their doorways.
I commend those voters for coming out to vote. I hope
those same voters come out in November and they
encourage their friends and family to vote, also. Also
thanks Hawaii. The pictures of Suzanne Malvau of
CNN were beautiful and sweet. She is a beautiful lady
and I loved her clothes. She could sell those Hawaiin shirts to me
off her back. Hawaiin's were shocked that they had to
stand in line for 2 hours but they did and voted. Con-
gratulations Hawaii and Thanks for your American vote.
Just seeing Suzanne and the backgrounds of Hawaii
makes me want to go back again and again. I love Hawaii!!!

James, Minneapolis, MN   February 20th, 2008 1:52 pm ET

Hillary is probably now looking join McCain for a VP spot. Obama might as well be running against the both of them. HRC does not care about the DNC it is all about power.

Claudette, TX   February 20th, 2008 1:52 pm ET

When Obama says something or debates something that matters and can show a record of ANYTHING.....then and ONLY then might I consider to vote for a "feel good" and "we need a change" speech giver. He may be a good inspirational speaker...but I'm sure Satan was too, and I'm not willing to sell my soul or my vote for 30 pieces of silver.

Face it once the Clinton machine gets done trying to save this thing by smearing every kind of mud toward Obama.....McCain can just watch it all with a grin and take notes for the national run. The Dem party is going to implode before this is all over because Mr. and Mrs. Clinton will not give up without a very nasty fight.

Jim Jones   February 20th, 2008 1:48 pm ET

Teamster's, smeamster's!! Union backing means nothing, it's what their members vote for when they close the curtain. BUT, That's ok, Neither one has a chance, Republicans will remain in the White House. Thank GOD for that!!!!

E.L.T. in DC   February 20th, 2008 1:45 pm ET

Marie.. why would Obama be anti-union when he fought for workers' right to organize? It would be contradictory for a civil rights attorney/community activist to be against labor union organization. More to the point, NO UNION WOULD TOUCH HIM WITH A 10-FT POLE IF THAT WERE THE CASE! Think before you SLANDER!

alexa   February 20th, 2008 1:44 pm ET

I cannot believe how stupid this whole country is to put somone like Obama in office for president. NO EXPIERENCE!!!!!!!! NO SUBSTANCE!!

I find it interesting how a lot of people seem to knock all these union endorsements because they're not for hillary or supposedly because it's a union so it's automatically all the bigwigs who made this happen and not the people in the union itself.

If the unions can draw at least one vote for the Obama campaign that perhaps it didn't before, it's making a difference. As Barack Obama has stated many times already, every delgate counts so therefore really every vote counts.

This is one of the many reasons why Obama has won 10 states in a row, and double the amount that Hillary has.

What is wrong with everyone in our country. I have a hard time with people jumping on Obama's band wagon, what has this man done for our country??? The answer is NOTHING he has no proven track record at leading and most importantly succedding in his legislative work. This reminds me of Jimmy Carter, a nice guy but made a very bad President, lets not let this happen again. WAKE UP PEOPLE AND STOP VOTING FOR OBAMA JUST BECAUSE HE CAN SPEAK WELL, WE NEED SOMEONE WHO CAN ACCOMPLISH AND LEAD. OBAMA SOUNDS LIKE A PREACHER NOT A LEADER!!!!! WAKE UP EVERYONE, PLEASE BEFORE ITS TOO LATE!!!!

Ken a Teamster   February 20th, 2008 1:42 pm ET

You Obama supporters make me sick. The Clintons served this country very well. The 8 years they were in office were prosperous, the economy was great, other countries actually LIKED us, and we had a surplus not a deficit in government. Why NOT have more of that? I will not vote for Obama.

Hylaab   February 20th, 2008 1:40 pm ET

For Hillary, it is all about power or the Clintons for that matter. I don't believe she will concede and put the Dems and our country ahead. She fight a dirty fight and be the most hated, value-less and pretender presidential candidate in US history.

Debra   February 20th, 2008 1:40 pm ET

I agree w/Jimmy – Where is Edwards? Now is the time for his endorsement of Obama so that we can end this madness.

BARACK OBAMA FOR PRESIDENT '08

Austin, TX 4 Hillary!   February 20th, 2008 1:40 pm ET

A bunch of men afraid of women in power! That's all it is. Hillary can win this without those fancy endorsements. The thing about Hillary, she has to work hard at the job that she is applying for her. It's not being "given" to her by the media or is she being moved on down the river by a current. She actually has to paddle and fight the currents. That to me represents the hard working America way. Many of us do not get anything handed to us. We work hard for it and many times we come across hostility and obstacles along the way to our goal, but we keep on no matter who tries to discourage us or tell us to just give up and quit! She's a fighter and a doer and she will prevail!

missy, nashville, tn   February 20th, 2008 1:40 pm ET

John Mc cain will defeat Obama in the fall. Once the clintons are out of the way, the media will begin to show america who Obama and his wife are. racist and bigots. Michelle gave us a glimps yesterday into her way of thinking. First time she is proud of America.

ronald bergman   February 20th, 2008 1:39 pm ET

Jack it is time for the USA to see that we want a fresh leader not one from the past. Send Hillary back to Ark and Bill back to the retirement section. Tell Chelse to get a job! Hasn't anybody remembered the white house sandles that went on when Bill was President? Today Hillary said it was time to get real, does that meant that anything that has happened up to now is not real and the people are not real?

Lewis   February 20th, 2008 1:39 pm ET

YES! WE CAN!

Robert in GA   February 20th, 2008 1:39 pm ET

I agree with one of the posters below. Edwards needs to come out in support of one of the candidates before the March 4th primary. After March 4th, Obama is going to have unstoppable momentum if he wins, or Hillary is going to kick start her campaign again if she wins.

Honestly I'm tired of Bush's and Clinton's. If Obama wins the primary I'm voting Democratic this year. If Hillary wins, I probably won't vote at all.

Vince Los Angeles, CA   February 20th, 2008 1:38 pm ET

I don't understand why you HIllary people are so upset. I know a plea to save the Democratic party is not in your best interest. IT IS IN YOUR OWN BEST INTEREST TO STEP ASIDE NOW!! YOU ARE ENDANGERING BEING RE-ELECTED IN YOUR NEXT SENATE BID IF YOU KEEP ON THIS TRACK.

Michael   February 20th, 2008 1:37 pm ET

She is getting stronger, she didn't cry on Monday eve of election.
Hillary partup and go home....with respect.
Thank you from someone that cares.
God Bless you all for sharing your comment, it make it great to read.
After all the negative comments we all agree that let the best win.

Important people take time to study this man and they have chosen him to be our next president.

spiritguide   February 20th, 2008 1:36 pm ET

Wow! Impressive ! To those many Obama critics who accuse him of simply being an empty suit... could so many other Congressional supporters and Governors who are supporting Obama be that wrong? He has literature on all of his many positions out there for anyone to read. I believe this empty suit stuff is mainly from those who can't deal with a Black man becoming our next President. They can't see beyond the color of his skin ( his "suit ").
As far as all the particulars of the criticism of Obama that has surfaced recently, if that is the best that his detractors can do, he's in pretty good shape. No man ( or woman ), politician or otherwise, is a saint. We ALL have our shortcomings. That is part of being human!

Mc Cain is just 4 more years of Bush rhetoric and he is too old to lead our country. We need young blood! Out with the old republicans and in with something new!

Obama may win the nomination based on empty promises and flowery speeches, but he will not get the votes of the Clinton supporters. We know he is all talk–and not even his own talk. We will not drink the Obama Kool-Aid and become mindless sheep.

Lee   February 20th, 2008 1:30 pm ET

Let's get it on – Obama/Edwards 08 – all readers stay sharp...we may all get pretty exhausted over the next 10 months. Every little bit of campaign rhetoric/fodder will be examined and highlighted to the hills.

Tim, Seattle   February 20th, 2008 1:30 pm ET

I think this will be the 1st of many many endorsements coming out for Obama now that he has proven he is the frontrunner and can weather the Clinton political machine. The tide has turned.
I expect a lot of superdelagates are thinking the same thing.

The SS Hillary is listing and taking on water, folks. Mayday! Mayday!

The lobbyiest and special interest group say they have endorsed Hillary Clinton .

Also the oversea laboral will also endorse Hillary because Her husband gave them good paying job.

Braineel   February 20th, 2008 1:26 pm ET

A big endorsement and more ground troops, thank you teamsters.

John Edwards, please come out soon, we need you on the trail for Obama.

Shaker Flair, Cleveland, OH   February 20th, 2008 1:18 pm ET

You know those Teamsters- they're all a bunch of spoiled, latte-sipping elitists.

NoBama   February 20th, 2008 1:17 pm ET

Well, he is a "brotha"

Vera   February 20th, 2008 1:16 pm ET

Go Teamsters! How could any union endorse HRC when she and her experienced husband were primary players in the signing of NAFTA? Why might I include Hillary as a team member of the NAFTA bill, well she is qualified on day one right? Was she not there? She is taking credit for her husbands accompolishments so she should share in his failures as well don't you think?

And ?????   February 20th, 2008 1:16 pm ET

So what!! My dad will never vote for Obama – teamster or not!

John J.   February 20th, 2008 1:16 pm ET

As a Union Member for the last sixty years i implore all union and Non Union workers to vote for Hillary Clinton and as a veteran of WW2 I implore all Vetrans to vote for Hillary Clinton

LSS   February 20th, 2008 1:15 pm ET

WHERE IS EDWARDS!
Now is the time for Edwards to come out in favor of Barack. He must do it before texas and Ohio to have any real value.
As a fellow North Carolinian, I call on John Edwards to join with all of us who know that Obama is the only real chance we have at winning the White House in November.

Dave   February 20th, 2008 1:14 pm ET

Pretty big endorsement. Hillary: give up. Please. I'm sure you'd be a fine president, but it's just not going to happen this time around. We need to unite this party because the Republicans are not going to be easy to beat. Continuing to jab Obama is only going to hurt the party and country

RPF   February 20th, 2008 1:13 pm ET

Unions... read "The Communist Manifesto". This stinks of basic Marxism/Communism.

Becky In Indiana   February 20th, 2008 1:13 pm ET

Way to go Teamsters!
OBAMA FOR PRESIDENT

Matt in Georgia   February 20th, 2008 1:13 pm ET

Excellent endorsement.

Matthew   February 20th, 2008 1:11 pm ET

Too many holes to stop the sinking ship now Hillary.
