Schneider: Clinton stresses connection to Latinos

AUSTIN, Texas (CNN) - Hillary Clinton used her opening statement to immediately stress her roots in South Texas - the stronghold of the state’s Latino community. She spent time there after college in a voter registration effort - and she wants Latino voters watching tonight to remember this. She clearly has a target audience tonight.

I would like to just let you know that i am appalled how you at CNN are putting down Hillary Clinton. I am a avid watcher of CNN, and have been watchin it for some time. I never hear anything good said about Senator Clinton. All i hear is negative words from all. I am a Clinton supporter, and i feel that with all the publicity that you give about her doesn't help matters any. I would never put her down like you have been doing for the 2 weeks. I just hope that she wins the nomination and wonder what kind of remarks you will say when she does.

I agree with Rodriquez that she is using the Latinos for political points. And I agree with Buzz that she only has feminists, old people, and people who cannot get beyond the color issue.

We are a Latino family – my son just voted in the primary for the first time – and we all support Barack Obama because, even though we admire Sen. Clinton, I doubt she will be able to craft the working majority that will be necessary to undo the damage that Bush had done to this country. Whether fairly or unfairly, Mrs. Clinton is perceived negatively by 47% of the country – a tough starting point already. If we elect Barack Obama as our next President, the way people around the world see the US will change immediately. We will look at ourselves differently. For the better.

I'll vote for Obama. I am not going to vote for anyone who betrays supporters almost as soon as their votes are cast. Am a union worker for Obama !

Betsy in Mpls–I agree. It sounds terrible to say, but it has the appearance of being a race discrimination issue.

I am behind Senator Clinton all the way at 110%. I sure hope she puts
    Obama to shame.

    Betsy,
Is that why the black voters overwhelmingly vote for Barack? Racism is real in politics, so is sexism but it is on both fronts. I don't hear Barack complaining.

so , if you dont vote for barack you are a racist – sounds kind of like bush and his "if your not with us you are against us in the war on terror" – maybe i am not voting for barack becuase i dont think he is ready and i think she is – simple as that – black, white, man, woman, i dont care – and furthermore i dont want a rockstar for president, i want a president for president.

if she is so far latino's then why did she let go of her campaign manager who is latino? And question- what has she done because I don't see it. To me the latino and hispanic population are making their own grounds and pushing ahead by themselves.

When Hillary talks of three or more decades of experience, can she prove it in writing that majority period of the experience includes services to the whole nation without bias?

I am Hispanic... and I hate the pandering going on for a supposedly "latino" vote. First of all, what has she done? What did Bill fo for African-Americans?

The Clintons always want people to give examples, well give me 1. She signed up people to vote because they needed the Hispanic support to win. That is not helping Hispanics, that is using them... same as she does now.

She sent the jobs that Hispanics and others rely on to outside of the US to China and India. She either wants us to stay poor and under the governmentc ontrol (health insurance, jobs, housing plans that make us servants of the government or be fined).

Its time to stop pandering and give us "solutions" Senator Clinton.

Those claiming Obama has no substance need to do some research. Mr. Obama has far, far, far more papers on his policy and policy ideas than Mrs. Clinton does. Be an intelligent voter - do your own research, not what the debate moderators choose to cover and allow!

Isn't it amazing that she can't win the white vote, the black vote, losing women, losing men, losing over 50 crowd, but now can only depend on Latin Americans. When is everyone going to wake up and see that American wants significant change, A new direction away from the status quo. You would think that Bush, Clinton, Bush, CLINTON would be too much from 2 families. Geesh!

i think that senator clinton should target more races than the lationos. that is one of the things that is wrong now. latinos are allowed to get tax breaks, avoid paying taxes, illegal ids, etc. what about the rest of the people that are here legally, and cannot get health care for their children because the latinos get first chances at it. i.e peachcare in atlanta ga. if you go to get medical attn. for your child you are told that you cannot get an appt. before a month or more, yet every time that you go there its more latinos there getting medical att. for their children than americans. LETS GET REAL1

Thank you, Jane, for seeing this as a race issue. And I applaud Maria Bonita for seeing that Barack will create a majority, which the country so deseparately needs.

Barack can talk as long as he wants, but if Hillry takes a little time they immediately try to cut her off, she needs to be more forceful and continue with her speaking. Why don't they ask him about drivers licenses for immigrants.
