AUSTIN, Texas (CNN) — Clinton just made an effective argument against John McCain: Though the Arizona senator is a champion against wasteful spending, Clinton pointed to his support for the Bush tax cuts and the war in Iraq — both colossal expenditures unpopular with most Democrats.Obama isn't the only one eager to go head to head with McCain.

We will never see such a brilliant woman candidate for president again in long time. She is Strong, smart, knowledgable and articulate her ideas in such an effective way. I think it is tough to be a woman among all this men.
Every time she debated those men , she outperformed them. She showed a deep understanding of all the issues.
America remember in the years to come what a loss we had in not electing this unique woman.

John in Columbus, OH   February 21st, 2008 11:52 pm ET

Hillary talks about the details of which she has none. She only talks about having substance and her supporters repeat it without thinking. All her supporters can say is she has a plan. Duh! The same ridiculous garnish-your-wages healthcare plan she's been waving around for the last 15 years. Some plan. Give me a break, Clinton Kool Aid Drinkers. She doesn't have anything new.

Drew   February 21st, 2008 11:37 pm ET

Why would I want a President in the name of Obama that has no experience! We want " proven leadership." That is truly Hillary Clinton. She has a record of proven leadership, Obama is just flashy words in Media.

Janice   February 21st, 2008 11:37 pm ET

Clinton vs McCain will only happen in primary debates!

Lori M. White   February 21st, 2008 11:07 pm ET

I thought Hillary did great. I'm sick to death of the media's love affair with Obama. The moderator kept cutting Hillary off and letting. O.B. stutter. He needs to get original..just once. You think he has a blueprint…go to her site and see where he got it.

Reality check   February 21st, 2008 11:03 pm ET

Hillary can stand toe to toe with Mccain or anyone else. She has done it all her life and is doing it now against the Giant, the media. She takes insults, answers the hardest question, is blamed for everything Bill has ever done or said, has had sexist remarks hurled at her, yet she retains her dignity. When the guy yelled, Iron my shirt, she took it gracefully . Had someone yelled at Obama to shine their shoes, it would have been racist but not sexist to yell an equally extreme comment to Hillary. Why are we not mad as hell about the sexist way she is being treated? Tell me this woman cannot stand against anyone, she's been doing it her whole career, it would be just another day at the office for this tough woman. She is the best candidate, we'll never get another chance for a better President.

Eric   February 21st, 2008 10:31 pm ET

There was a standing ovation, because the debate had ended. You morons!

brian   February 21st, 2008 10:11 pm ET

Hillary CAN NOT beat McCain..

Both clinton's and Obama's positions are relatively the same.
Except for the fact that people hate clinton and will not work with her, nor will she work with them. Clinton can not admit to ever making a mistake or being wrong. Even when asked about the vote to go to war, she still will not admit it was a mistake.

Obama is the only chance for the Democrats to win this election.

And if the Super Delegates go against the popular vote – it will permanently fracture the Democratic party. People are finally getting involved and excited about making a difference and if the "super Delegates" slam the door on this, it will devastate the entire party.

Debi   February 21st, 2008 10:06 pm ET

Hillary did a wonderful job. She won hands down in this debate. I just hope the rest of the good people left in the primaries will vote for her as the First Woman President of the USA!

Mensah Koduah, Bronx, New York   February 21st, 2008 9:53 pm ET

This shows that Hillary can on anybody the republicans have to offer. She showed her knowledge and understanding of the issues. Obama fillibustered all night and Campbell Brown allowed him to go on and on. She tried to cut of Hillary time and again.

Path   February 21st, 2008 9:53 pm ET

Go Hillary……NO OBAMA for President or VP

Brian   February 21st, 2008 9:53 pm ET

A boring debate? Maybe thats why there's no reason for one. Just look at Obamas website and you'll see why he's the best at the job. His plans are all lined out in "Blueprint for Change" on the Issues Section.

faye   February 21st, 2008 9:53 pm ET

I THINK SHE DID GREAT. HILLARY08

Daniel Miller   February 21st, 2008 9:53 pm ET

Both of these POLITICANS stink. They are afraid to be honest and tell the American people that abandoning the war is not an option. Do you think that running from what we started will result in a sudden break out of peace in the middle east? The people of the Middle East have been fighting for all of recorded time. If we abandon what we started it will haunt us for a very long time. And more terrorisum will be the result because our enamys real or precieved will use this as a tool against us.

Glenn   February 21st, 2008 9:53 pm ET

OBAMA WON THIS DEBATE HANDS DOWN….TIME TO PACK IT UP HILLARY

OBAMA – 08 SI SE PUEDE

Mark   February 21st, 2008 9:52 pm ET

I expect that tomorrow, people will be taking that ending statement of Hillary Clinton and comparing it directly against her other "spontaneous" teary moment, which was very, very similar both in words and intonation.

That could really hurt Hilllary in the longrun, as it calls her sincerity into question.

James M.   February 21st, 2008 9:52 pm ET

Hillary is always angry. I feel sorry for her.

No wonder she's losing.

Sadly, I think she has permanently damaged her legacy with the sleazy negative campaign including racism.

DAVE B.   February 21st, 2008 9:52 pm ET

Democrats win.

Wynn   February 21st, 2008 9:52 pm ET

Senator Clinton makes an effective argument on all her issues. It's too bad the people aren't listening to her truth but are more interested in Obama the Orator. Wait until the Republican's unleash their smear campaign on Obama after he's placed as the Democratic nominee for the general national election, we'll have another Republican president.

Angelina   February 21st, 2008 9:52 pm ET

WEll, they were both civil. they dont have so many differences……… but Obama still is our leader. And for once she was nice, but I wonder if she mean it……………

Suzy   February 21st, 2008 9:52 pm ET

The best man for the job this time around is a woman! Hillary won this one

RAFi68   February 21st, 2008 9:52 pm ET

if people pick obama is a mistake because clinton is a real leader . it is sad that some people dont see how specify she is on evrything and obama is not ….

CHOSEN   February 21st, 2008 9:52 pm ET

HISPANICS, HILLARY IS FAKE.

dont believe her. she just wants to be president to be the 1st woman.

STOP looking at race!!!!!!!!!!!

Kelly   February 21st, 2008 9:52 pm ET

Yup, she's the IRON LADY alright. Something no one wants in a leader.

tim in new england   February 21st, 2008 9:52 pm ET

"Change you can xerox…." Hmmm… I know Hillary didn't come up with that line… shouldn't she have referenced the consultant that she paid (hundreds of thousands of dollars at least) who wrote that line for her?

David M. Lucas, Ph.D.   February 21st, 2008 9:52 pm ET

Yes, but her ending…she sounded like one of the fainting faithful of Obama's rallies. "After this, we're going to be ok." She sounded like she had Obama stars in her eyes too! Wild.

DAVE B.   February 21st, 2008 9:52 pm ET

Their both good candiates, I think democrats as a whole should be very pleased with the postion were in.

Neal   February 21st, 2008 9:52 pm ET

For not being a charismatic speaker, her close was one of her finest moments. Since he's a better orator, I was thinking his close, which was typical Obama, would end him on a high but she really nailed this.

Brian   February 21st, 2008 9:51 pm ET

The seem the same, but Clinton plans that. She know politics and she wants the power. But he's honest, and he's real. He will be able to lead our nation into the coming time. She's the expert on back room deals and you can not profit the people by putting dollars in your pocket first.

Obama is clearly the right direction for this country. Clinton is an expert Washington DC Shapeshifter.

Glenn   February 21st, 2008 9:51 pm ET

Did she actually say that she can blast McCain over his voting for the Bush Tax Cuts and his vote for the War???? That was huge blunder. He voted against the Bush tax cuts (although he says he is for them now) and She voted for the war also….She is such an idiot.. Ready to lead day one..YEA RIGHT…

OBAMA 08 – YES WE CAN

Jackson   February 21st, 2008 9:51 pm ET

OH MY GOD… IS SHE GOING TO CRY…

THERE IS NO CRYING IN PRESIDENTIAL POLITICS

Thomas   February 21st, 2008 9:51 pm ET

I strongly believe Hillary won tonight!

GO HILLARY!!!

Hey   February 21st, 2008 9:51 pm ET

She did not get a standing ovation!!! The people were standing and clapping for a good debate. Open your eyes.

sm   February 21st, 2008 9:51 pm ET

I truly see not leadership or answers with these two. Open borders, higher taxes. crappy healthcare. We need a leader. Someone tough. And it is neither of those two.

Miriam   February 21st, 2008 9:51 pm ET

Next debate he should be addressed first, he loves to Xerox other peoples words including hers. Hillary won this one, she did well. Go Hillary, you've got my vote. Hillary/Obama 2008!

Willa   February 21st, 2008 9:51 pm ET

Their positions are very similar on most issues. However, I don't think they could run together. The means by which they interact and achieve goals is radically different and comes from a different philosophy of human and international relations.

Iris   February 21st, 2008 9:51 pm ET

So true Latina, NJ. Clinton using her husband's infidelity come on Hillary…as a woman i am offended that she would take such a low road

Angela   February 21st, 2008 9:51 pm ET

Obama does well to look forward to debating McCain, especially now that McCain has to take a pause and defend an alleged affair

Mary   February 21st, 2008 9:51 pm ET

Hillary is so awesome!!! I do agree with the post that Obama just needs a few more years in the political ring. Hillary is ready NOW!!!!

Her last statement could not have been better!

Hillary '08

jinga   February 21st, 2008 9:51 pm ET

CNN favors Clinton; pitching the last question to Obama first and letting Hillary sum up. Typical.

Amy in Iowa   February 21st, 2008 9:51 pm ET

Clinton will not be able to go head to head with McCain because she voted liked Bush. Hillary does not stand for change.

MN Woman   February 21st, 2008 9:51 pm ET

She absolutely deserved that standing ovation! Obama was still writing notes and that finger was coming up to get his point in! She was fabulous in her closing, he couldn't have topped it. It came directly from her heart.

Go Hillary, this is why we love you.

JohnS   February 21st, 2008 9:51 pm ET

Where is the great debater– Hillary? I was looking for "knock-out" from Hillary. Hillary could not last any blow, not the least substantial, on Obama.

I am remain quite disappointed in Hillary, if she could not get a knock-out tonight!!!

Raphael   February 21st, 2008 9:51 pm ET

Staci,

I agree with you…You are truly correct..This is totally against marketing…That is all he is..His speeches are for a gym or football field, not a white house…Clinton you are on track to win Texas, Ohio, Etc..

Dave, Santa Barbara CA   February 21st, 2008 9:51 pm ET

As a previous Republican, then Independent, I am more impressed with Obama each week.

Bill F Ky   February 21st, 2008 9:50 pm ET

Unity is needed to get us headed in a different direction. A change of leadership and party may be the breath of fresh air we need to meet the needs of our diverse country.

Imani   February 21st, 2008 9:50 pm ET

Hilary didn't answer any questions that she didn't want to answer.

She is a clear politician, not ready to truely change this country.

Ask yourself why you want to vote for Hilary Clinton. We've already had a tough, iron man, ready to keep fighting, where has he gotten us?

Rozanne   February 21st, 2008 9:50 pm ET

I thought it was a low blow and it reflected very negatively on Senator Clinton. Let it go!

Lynda   February 21st, 2008 9:50 pm ET

Obama won this debate. He provided solid answers and handled Clinton's cheap middle-school shots with grace and poise. The Obama momentum will roll on!

Clinton – old and busted
Obama – the new hotness

Out with the old and in with the new!!

Cynthia from Ohio   February 21st, 2008 9:50 pm ET

While I have voted for every election since I was old enough to do so, this is the first time I am so engaged and really believe my vote is important. And my vote is for Hillary Clinton. She has the experience, confidence, and ability to turn our country around and get us back on track. Hillary For President!

DAVE B.   February 21st, 2008 9:50 pm ET

Nice closing argument Hill. Shes great a great debater. Obama strength is leadership and judgement. I'd vote for either one in the General Election. In my opinion Obama is the better canidate, because his focus and strength, is the power of the people.

Dennis Flannery   February 21st, 2008 9:50 pm ET

But Bill, she didn't answer the question. Her answer had nothing to do with her earmarks.

Mark   February 21st, 2008 9:50 pm ET

The very idea that earmarks were mentioned though was a losing issue for Hillary Clinton, especially since she obviously had so many earmarks, and could not say that she disclosed her earmark spending.

She'd do poorly against a McCain that would actually push her on such issues, and show that she also supported many of the same big budgets that he did.

david   February 21st, 2008 9:50 pm ET

THE REPUBLICAN PARTY ESPECIALLY MC CAIN WOULD RATHER HAVE FACE OFF AGAINST HILLARY BECAUSE SHE HAS DONE SO MANY CLOSED DOORS DEALS THAT ARE BAD. WHEN THE AMERICAN PEOPLE HEAR ABOUT IT THEY'LL BE SO APPAULED THAT THEY'LL SWITCH PARTY'S.

James Wagner   February 21st, 2008 9:50 pm ET

Ninos… Hilary-the-clown is one of the most UN presidential candidates in the last 20 years… she is contrived, not sincere and totally lacks any connection to the common person. The only thing worse than this debate is CNN coverage…

Ahmad   February 21st, 2008 9:50 pm ET

It does not hurt to recognize your opponent abilities and successes.
For once tonight Clinton said she is honored to be there with aObama, surprised the whole audience that stood up to applause as just to tell her, quit being hypocrite and self-centered.

Janis   February 21st, 2008 9:50 pm ET

Senator Clinton's answer to the very last debate question was a home run –with basis loaded.

SANDYBURN   February 21st, 2008 9:50 pm ET

Way to go Hillary !…You hit your stride tonight!!!
What a greay debate!

larry   February 21st, 2008 9:50 pm ET

WAY IT GO HILLARY..GREAT JOB.YOU SHOWED YOU WERE A HUMAN..JUST LIKE YA DID BEFORE AN YOU WON.BUT YOUR RIGHT ON THE MARK THE AMERICAN PEOPLE GO THROUGH MORE THEN MOST POLTICAL PEOPLE DO.POLITICIANS DONT LIVE IN REALITY. PERIOD

Susan   February 21st, 2008 9:50 pm ET

Barack Obama has NOT been endorsed by every major newspaper in Texas-will you call him on it?

Mary   February 21st, 2008 9:49 pm ET

Clinton just got a standing ovation. Way to go Hillary! You win!

David Jacksonville FL   February 21st, 2008 9:49 pm ET

With that brilliant closing statement, a great blend of humor and eloquence, Hillary just won Texas. You heard it here first.

Raphael   February 21st, 2008 9:49 pm ET

Latina NJ Que te pasa man…She gave a great ending and a grande finale…Keep your new jersey tail hidden because people love her there..Wow..This was a crazy…Take that MICHELLE>..I get you NINOS your awesome..>We are going to win Texas..

dem08   February 21st, 2008 9:49 pm ET

HIllary had crap thrown at her left and right and she stuck to the issues. Obama couldn't handle a brief, and I'll admit, badly handled, bit of controversy from Hillary. How is he going to handle a full fledged attack from McCain?

Hillary is the strongest choice. Open your eyes America!

Molly Ivans   February 21st, 2008 9:49 pm ET

Hillary was too testy. She failed in her attempt to stop his momentum. Clearly desperate because she's losing.

Obama looked like the adult in the room. Very presidential. I thought Hillary was supposed to be the better debater but Obama did great and seemed mature.

Florina Uyar   February 21st, 2008 9:49 pm ET

I would like to hear what candidates are considering for solutions to the increasing trend in public shootings – in malls, schools, colleges, highways, workplaces and the list can go on. I don't think having airport-like security everywhere is a feasible solution. Why is gun control such a taboo issue that no one brings it up? If guns stop being handed out like candy, maybe we would not have as many American citizens killed by domestic criminals as those killed by terrorists. I would appreciate the question asked and hearing the candidates responses on this issue.
Thank you.

TheLeftNut   February 21st, 2008 9:49 pm ET

I like them both. HINT HINT.

Reality check   February 21st, 2008 9:49 pm ET

And Hillary would chew him up! Not sure Obama could take him on, one thing, Obama stutters too much which makes him look unknowledgeable. Hillary's answers are quick and to the point.

Patricia Fowler   February 21st, 2008 9:49 pm ET

How does Barrack Obama honestly believe that all Americans will sign on to his plan for Health Care??? Surely he is not that naive! It is a well known fact that the young (20-30 years old on average) won't buy insurance – they don't think about such at that age!

Clintons plan is much better – it works in Europe very well and it is time for American to grow up!

Lou   February 21st, 2008 9:49 pm ET

Hillary brought me to tears with her final response. She is an extraordinary person and far more human than she's given credit for.

Murry   February 21st, 2008 9:49 pm ET

Obama gave a great performance!

Clinton succeeded in a cheesy Hallmark moment. Don't cry. That's not presidential.

victor   February 21st, 2008 9:49 pm ET

Very Nice Close, Hillary. And a standing ovation. Good job Senator. Cleary the best debate yet. Engaging and it kept your attention. Let see how CNN spins tonite's performances in favor of Sen. Obama???

Butterfly 0421   February 21st, 2008 9:49 pm ET

Her closing was good but the type of connection she attempted to make at the end of the debate was the type of connection Obama has made throughout the campaign.

DallasGirl35   February 21st, 2008 9:49 pm ET

So, I tried to give a positive review on another post for Obama…it got held up. Maybe that's why all I see are Clinton positive statements. Geez CNN….I've actually defended you against those FOX News viewers.

Kyle   February 21st, 2008 9:49 pm ET

Hillary didn't boo hoo. She is a woman. If Obama can act aggressive, she can too. If Obama wants to get personal, she can too.

Why does Obama gets so flustered? This was without a doubt, one of his worst debates. He did well last debate this one–not so much.

Realist   February 21st, 2008 9:49 pm ET

Clinton sounded like she was in New Hampshire all over again in the end. A soft close after her razor sharp claws earlier had left her own chances bleeding.

mary cleveland, ohio   February 21st, 2008 9:49 pm ET

I see Hillary is dressed appropriately – like a dictator in a third world country, which is how she'll govern if she becomes President.

me   February 21st, 2008 9:49 pm ET

She rocks!!!

danny   February 21st, 2008 9:49 pm ET

Hilary dominated this debate, she brought out her emotion and her fundamental reason for running in this campaign. Go Hilary!

Catherine   February 21st, 2008 9:49 pm ET

Hillary is the clear leader. Obama step aside. Actually being President is much different than your 'American Idol' performances. We can't afford your inexperience at this time in the country

Hal   February 21st, 2008 9:49 pm ET

Obama, def is not looking to criticize but to bring true change. He def won this.

Hil4Prez   February 21st, 2008 9:49 pm ET

Texas….vote for the right and ready candidate. Vote for the best at tonite's debate..hands down…that's Hillary!

Staci   February 21st, 2008 9:49 pm ET

Obviously, she won this debate. Lets see if CNN can tell the truth for once. And here's a question? Why does every picture of Obama on your site look like a model, and every picture of Hillary has her with her mouth open or something. Play fair!

Mattheus Mei   February 21st, 2008 9:49 pm ET

It's ironic that she complains about McCain's spending on the war, she has supported the spending the entire time.

I must admit she pulled out an 'emotional victory' with the end of the debate, but Latina is right, she has to rely on the boo-hoo-ing to 'win'

ps   February 21st, 2008 9:49 pm ET

didn't obama also show pride. he told hilary what accomphlishements that he had made after hilary made the statement that he did nothing. …

RC from VA   February 21st, 2008 9:49 pm ET

OB look shocked and surprised at the strength of HC's closing – almost child like – kid with his hand in the cookie jar look.

Lisa in Houston, Tx   February 21st, 2008 9:49 pm ET

Hill has the best chance of going toe to toe with McCain, period. She has stood against the republican attack machine and media not only in this race but a good majority of her political career. Little they say now can really shock us. When Obama's dirty little secrets are revealed in the public eye he'll go home running with his tail in between his legs.

Jon Cruz   February 21st, 2008 9:49 pm ET

Let's see if Obama's frontman, Bill Schneider, acknowledges how incredibly good Senator Clinton's final statement was.

Kevin Zelko   February 21st, 2008 9:49 pm ET

Hillary didnt win this debate. She threw a lot of stones that didnt hit. Obama focussed on the issues, not on trash talk. Remember the boos.

Obama showed poise and the strength with being on top.

McCain would defeat Hillary because of electability. She would turn away many repubs, where as Obama would pull them (especially with the christian right angry with McCain)….Obama would pull independnets.

Dr Roy Creasey   February 21st, 2008 9:48 pm ET

Bill, Thanks for your running comments. I'd have to give this debate to Hillary. I think Hillary finished strong. Obama started very weak and was strong in the middle.

Tracy   February 21st, 2008 9:48 pm ET

The debate overall had so few highlights – I'm so pleased Hillary ended like she did. That was awesome – she is so tough. She's ready for the White House.

NaJuana Lee   February 21st, 2008 9:48 pm ET

Wow! Hilary is back! A standing ovation….and the horrified look on Obama's face…priceless!

Hillary won this debate – and the standing ovation SHE RECEIVED proved it.

David   February 21st, 2008 9:48 pm ET

Hillary lost this debate. She was booed during the debate. People are seeing that she is throwing dirty and cheap shots and thats not the type of debate the American people want to see

Andrew   February 21st, 2008 9:48 pm ET

Hillary had a great close, but not enough to win the debate. Obama has clearly grown in debate. He had clear, substantive answers and good responses to her challenges. She really blew it on the plagiarism issue. Nothing happened tonight that will turn the race around.

Lilly   February 21st, 2008 9:48 pm ET

That Clinton closing was a perfect 10. I am a cynical political junky but she had me convinced.

hutch   February 21st, 2008 9:48 pm ET

She won't get a chance by what the polls look like. Even if she takes OH and TX Obama will be ahead in pledge delegates. If she we to get the nomination using the super-delegates the democratic party would be split literally. It would ruin the dems for quite some time. McCain would be our next president most likely. The dem party will not let that happen, I seriously doubt they will let it go much more after TX/OH/RI. I suspect the party would make one step down.

connie   February 21st, 2008 9:48 pm ET

Hillary won that debate!
I am so glad she looks out for others!

Boos do not come from college educated people at a debate. Who were those people?

Marchelle   February 21st, 2008 9:48 pm ET

I'm sorry but thats a first for Clinton. She new she needed a new approach. And that is what she did ending the debate nice. But quite honestly she was full of it. and its more than obvious.

Msfrenche   February 21st, 2008 9:48 pm ET

Hillary always talks about what people say to her. We don't want a mother – we want a leader. She relies to heavily on referencing "what she was told."

Will Gainesville, FL   February 21st, 2008 9:48 pm ET

Barack Obama knocked it out of the park in this debate! He will be the next POTUS! YEs, WE CAN!

Mary   February 21st, 2008 9:48 pm ET

David, I could go for a Clinton/Obama ticket with Obama as V.P. However, I don't think Obama is ready for the presidency.

Lynda   February 21st, 2008 9:48 pm ET

McCain would eat Clinto alive. He would trump her "experience" card and she doesn't provide a stark enough contrast. They both represent "old" Washington. It' time for something fresh – Obama can provide this plus the ability to actually UNITE people. We have to be united in order to work on solutions to the tough problems.

Daddy freddy   February 21st, 2008 9:48 pm ET

i'm not sure what the standing ovation was for.did she and mccain go to witness the damage from the war they voted for?

Amy in Iowa   February 21st, 2008 9:48 pm ET

Hillary closed it nicely to let America know she will be fine when she loses the nomination to Obama. Which is nice to know. Hillary is good but Obama is better and it is good to know Hillary closed it well.

Hal   February 21st, 2008 9:48 pm ET

Great job Obama, you def was precise on everything. If some women would stop being bias and start to really use judgment they will know that this is not about gender. Its about bringing reality and change to this country.

Clinton worst moment "About her talking about him borrowing words, "That's zerox and she gut booed for that" CNN

rudy   February 21st, 2008 9:48 pm ET

John MaCain would eat hillay alive, she's has nothing new or effective. Go Obama.

Luke   February 21st, 2008 9:48 pm ET

Nobody WON this debate…it was one of two hurdles until Clinton bows out. The momentum is in Obama's corner. She is done…anyone have a fork?

May Pomeroy   February 21st, 2008 9:48 pm ET

Campbell Brown did a great job of "gate keeping"…so that neither candidate could take over as has happended in some debates with weaker moderators.
Both candidates did well. I think it was a draw.

ME   February 21st, 2008 9:48 pm ET

Hillary is best prepared to handle the GOP!!! They are going to eat Obama alive!!! Hillary is most prepared and it looked like it tonight! You rock Hillary!!!!

Linda   February 21st, 2008 9:48 pm ET

Obama won because Clinton didn't answer any of the questions directly. Her ending was totally scripted and didn't answer the question.

Donna   February 21st, 2008 9:48 pm ET

But can Hillary beat McCain? I'm just afraid if she's the Democratic nominee, the Republican party will unify, as it has been unable to do thus far, against her. McCain's best hope of pulling in the ultra conservative right wing of the Republicans is……… Hillary as an opponent.

Brooke   February 21st, 2008 9:47 pm ET

Unbelievably presidential closing remarks from Hillary. Astounding!

Drew   February 21st, 2008 9:47 pm ET

Yeah but how does she win that argument since she also supported that wasteful spending mess called the "Iraq War"? She made a huge blunder if you ask me and she has nothing to stand on if that argument is made between her and McCain.

Brit Denise   February 21st, 2008 9:47 pm ET

The standing ovation was for their friendship and the DNC

hillary 08:   February 21st, 2008 9:47 pm ET

hillary!!!!!!

you made me cry with your ending….
BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!

YOU ARE AWESOME!

Mart   February 21st, 2008 9:47 pm ET

There she was ready to cry at the end. I'm glad she got sympathy applause. Bye bye, Hill!!!!

thos. more   February 21st, 2008 9:47 pm ET

You know, just because someone says something that you don't like to hear, that doesn't make that person biased.

Obama '08   February 21st, 2008 9:47 pm ET

She may be ready to go up against McCain, but she just lost another one. Obama performed brilliantly.

MRC   February 21st, 2008 9:47 pm ET

Why are my rather innocuous responses not being posted? There are other responses literally caustic, and they are posted quickly. Not very democratic Bill.

Ryan W.   February 21st, 2008 9:47 pm ET

How is it a good point that John McCain is more wasteful because he voted for the war in Iraq when Hillary herself voted for the war?

Sherry   February 21st, 2008 9:47 pm ET

Well, thank you Bill, I was beginning to think you couldn't say anything positive about Hillary. After watching Campbell continuously cut her off I was developing a bad opinion of this network. I was expecting a cheerful, yet off key round of Oh, Obama sang to the tune of Oh, Suzanna.

Evelyn New Jersey   February 21st, 2008 9:47 pm ET

She deserved that standing ovation. In spite of Camell Brown trying to always cut her off.

DD   February 21st, 2008 9:47 pm ET

She just showed how much better she is – Obama ducked the last question and gave his boilerplate South Side Chicago work, Clinton made the point about what exactly matters now. Clinton IS the right candidate.

Scott Arciszewski   February 21st, 2008 9:47 pm ET

Staci: We'll see when the poll results come in ;) .

Jason   February 21st, 2008 9:47 pm ET

How priceless was Obamas face during the standing Ovation…It was like Rocky iV when the USSR crowd chanted Rocky

Dana   February 21st, 2008 9:47 pm ET

SHE WON THIS DEBATE HANDS DOWN!!!

Dan in Miami   February 21st, 2008 9:47 pm ET

Do I have to be a Bush or a Clinton to be President of the U.S.A?

Let me know, I can change my name.

Kelly Anne   February 21st, 2008 9:47 pm ET

I think Shrillery blew it. She's so negative and nasty. I'm glad she got booed!

Clinton: 0
Obama: 1

Staci   February 21st, 2008 9:47 pm ET

HIllary ended this debate with a bang. She is the right candidate.

Willie   February 21st, 2008 9:47 pm ET

That was beautiful. Hillary got a standing ovation. That was great Hillary. I felt every moment. It almost made me cry.

Kathy   February 21st, 2008 9:47 pm ET

Obama won this one, hands down! Intellectual, confident, sensible, and presidential. I welcome the Obama Administration!

anna   February 21st, 2008 9:46 pm ET

too weepy and desperate

ps   February 21st, 2008 9:46 pm ET

yes he is. hilary isn't really trying to become president. she is the one to make this debate into a competition. she is kissing up. she's trying to be the hero of the United States of America. well….that's not going to happen. obama is settling it.

Mary   February 21st, 2008 9:46 pm ET

Thank you, Mr. Schneider, you finally give some kudos to Senator Clinton about her willingness to take on McCain for the presidency. Also, did anyone else notice how Obama jumped to his feet and pulled at Clinton's chair before she was even getting up. I thought he might be trying to dump her out of it! Weird!

lc   February 21st, 2008 9:46 pm ET

BUT SHE ALSO VOTED FOR THE EXPESNIVE WAR HERSELF- that

makes her no different than McCain.

Psybil   February 21st, 2008 9:46 pm ET

Interesting that Clinton got the first and last word of the debate. Yeah it was running late but Obama should be given equal time.

Dana   February 21st, 2008 9:46 pm ET

Standing Ovation for Hillary Ha ha ha!!!!!

Oak   February 21st, 2008 9:46 pm ET

Overall … I think he took it. She was much more personal at the end and the McClain notes were quite for her … but will she get the chance?

Mujeeb in NJ   February 21st, 2008 9:46 pm ET

I don't get it. Hilary was so anxious about having more debates, what did she gain in this one.

Jason   February 21st, 2008 9:46 pm ET

Clinton wins Clinton wins…If CNN wont say it I will

BP   February 21st, 2008 9:46 pm ET

Bill, how is a tax cut an expenditure? Whose view are we looking at – clearly not the tax payers, since paying less taxes is a savings, not an expense.

Eric Keller Detroit, Michigan   February 21st, 2008 9:46 pm ET

We need transparency in our government. Not big government, not big business, but good government, and good business. The Clinton’s and McCain may have been in government longer than Obama, yes. They have also all contributed to this countries past and present, as well as our unknown future. But, there are many things wrong with our country, and most of them have continued to be flawed. These have something in common, the people that have held power for years, or decades, but their same continued views on many of these issues can only get us so far, we need someone with new but smart views and plans to lead us in a new direction, not the same path we are on now, most importantly that we get on the right path a better one, not the path that works.

matthew   February 21st, 2008 9:46 pm ET

I thought she was going to cry ?????very dramatic but not to be believed.

Daddy freddy   February 21st, 2008 9:46 pm ET

how is she going to debate the war,she voted for it.it will be an unnecessary debate.
its going to be like kerry vrs bush and bush won.

Ryedog   February 21st, 2008 9:46 pm ET

Hillary got him in the end!!! They ended with her words not his— ya know why??? His words are not his own!!!!

Blow ME   February 21st, 2008 9:46 pm ET

She brought the House down with just being candid and open.

Staci   February 21st, 2008 9:46 pm ET

Only Hillary can withstand McCain in the general election. Vote like an adult, not like this is american idol.

Kelly Belsker   February 21st, 2008 9:46 pm ET

that standing ovation was staged!!! give me a break!!! it was staged…the words were not that effective…did u catch the pre-tearing up fake out she offered toward the end… oh the clinton seat fillers were in the house…Obama won..more substantive..she dipped whe she got negative

Tim   February 21st, 2008 9:46 pm ET

what a speech at the end, good job Hillary

Dixie Dawg   February 21st, 2008 9:46 pm ET

No check mate. But, this round goes to Hillary.

susan mccormick   February 21st, 2008 9:46 pm ET

how can you possibly think this reporting is unbiased? bill schneider is not appropriate for this reporting!!

Tonya T   February 21st, 2008 9:46 pm ET

CLINTON IS THE BEST CONTENDER AGAINST MCCAIN, AND SIMPLY THE BEST OVERALL CANDIDATE

Msfrenche   February 21st, 2008 9:46 pm ET

Clinton and McCainhave so much in common – what will she debate him on?

N Galella   February 21st, 2008 9:46 pm ET

That was an excellent response & her answer to the final question wrapped it up on a high note. Sen. Clinton won this debate.

Brit Denise   February 21st, 2008 9:45 pm ET

She keeps coming near tears.
Either she's weak
or she's coniving.
Either way, those arent
good qualities to have in a
president.
What will she do when she has to
"push the red button"…cry?
THAT WONT WORK

Vig   February 21st, 2008 9:45 pm ET

Gee, was that giving Clinton some points? How charitable.

R. Koehler   February 21st, 2008 9:45 pm ET

Obama can't point to single point of crisis because he's too young with too little experience! Can you imagine if another crisis like 911 happened? I want Senator Clinton who has weathered many crisis to be there in that Oval office serving as my President.

That ovation was for her.

Ed   February 21st, 2008 9:45 pm ET

How in the heck is a tax cut an expenditure?

Sharon   February 21st, 2008 9:45 pm ET

At least if it's Clinton vs McCain we can stick to the issues and not have people voting based on music videos.

Scott Arciszewski   February 21st, 2008 9:45 pm ET

Q: What can any two politicians agree on?
A: What a third politician is doing wrong.

Drew from Chicago   February 21st, 2008 9:45 pm ET

Whoo Hoo!! Hillary scores!!!!!!! She is awesome on the question of life challenges! Very effective tonight

Janet   February 21st, 2008 9:45 pm ET

Let's hope Anderson does a better analysis….

kristine for hillary 08   February 21st, 2008 9:45 pm ET

she is the only one who can face him and beat him…look out obama…we will beat you great job….hillary

Ninos   February 21st, 2008 9:45 pm ET

Ooh, Hillary's closer was nothing short of perfect. She showed her pride in this country (take that Michelle!) and made a plea that was effective without being desperate. They both had their highs and lows, but she closed it perfectly.

Staci   February 21st, 2008 9:45 pm ET

Hillary won this debate. She is the iron lady, tough and ready to keep fighting. Substance over Marketing!

zoey   February 21st, 2008 9:45 pm ET

A standing ovation!!!!! Well done Hillary! I believe you!

Latina, NJ   February 21st, 2008 9:45 pm ET

have to admit… Clinton did good at the end… but always using that week boo hooo … get a crib.

Iris   February 21st, 2008 9:45 pm ET

standing ovation wow

SMK   February 21st, 2008 9:44 pm ET

Well done Clinton! This is about the American people!

Staci   February 21st, 2008 9:44 pm ET

Obama is the biggest hypocrite. Name one time he did anything to rally against congress about the Iraq war. He gave a pretty speech a million years ago. Big deal.

David Maestri, AR   February 21st, 2008 9:44 pm ET

Obama and Clinton are almost exactly the same on every aspect of their campaigns with minor differences. I was just wondering how everyone feels about them as campaign partners. I think which ever candidate wins the democratic endorsement, should take the other candidate as their Vice-President, because they would know the other candidate would fulfill the plan that each other have set up because they feel the same about the topics. Just wondering how the candidates and everyone else feel about that.

Brandon,Montclair, NJ   February 21st, 2008 9:44 pm ET

It seems as though unifying the Democratic Party was tonight's theme/moral to the story.

Jeff, MD   February 21st, 2008 9:44 pm ET

This is the most pointless boring debate in recent record
