I have gladly and honorable served our great country for 15 years and 23 days in the U.S. Navy. McCain needs to either find his memory and or get a grip! I think his true fear simply slipped out of his mouth. Rogan, there is no need for you to attempt to "explain it all away".

I can't vote for McCain because he stands for too many things I can't get behind - but I will give him props for living in the real world more than many politicians. If only he hadn't sold his soul to the neocons andf the right wing extremists during these past four years, I might be able to overlook some of our differences enough to actually consider voting for him.

Retract your statement? Why? Do you not mean what you say?
How can we stand by and believe anything else you have said?

Is any major news provider looking into whether "the (marketing)surge" is really working as defined by all of the major benchmarks that were defined prior to "the (marketing) surge"? If "the surge" is "working", the logical follow-up question is what about "the surge" is "working?".

I think a skeptical (as she/he should be) and resourceful investigative reporter might want to look at the bank accounts and personal wealth of some key former insurgents/combatants. Wouldn't surprise me if the CIA wasn't doing more than a little bribery to bring about the desired behavior modifications prior to our November election.

Maybe I'm wrong, but this is worth a look. I haven't heard anyone yet make a convincing case on what about "the surge" is "working".

Well, the lame-talk express derailed once again. McRelic's less-than- tolerant temperament along with his inability to think on his feet and articulate concisely would serve us poorly in the world arena. An American war hero for sure ... but wrong now on two major undeclared wars!

Statements on the campaign trail are very very difficult to retract.
McCain: I'll lose" Obama,s mistatements on Afghanistan which he said came from a captain/officer in Afghnaistan, Michelles Obama's
" For the first time in my Adult life , I'm really proud of my country"
She is 45 years old now and for the first time she is really proud of our country. So much for a good education and wife of a presidential candidate.

Paul from Kissimmee,

Are you crazy.. It's been nearly 6 years, do you honestly think Iraq will be fixed... Anyone still supporting this war is a fool, bring our honorable men and women in uniform home.

And for McCain, you served this country in time of war, and now it's time for this country to repay their debt. I'm sure there's a rest home in Florida waiting for you...

Paul from Kissimmee - Paul forget about the surge and raising security in Iraq and you say that;

"The war will be won when the Iraqi people get up and take control of their own country. I don't like us being over there either, but we cannot leave this country to the insurgents".

The insurgents for the most part are the Iraqi people fighting a civil war with us in the middle. Do you really think that Al Sadr is going away or going to get friendly with us? From their perspective this is nothing more than the next Crusade and the whole region wants us out of there!

No - the answer is get out of their civil war and let the oil market take care of itself! George Bush, Dick Cheney and it seems John McCain have a profit motive in Iraq Oil and my countrymen and our tax dollars are not worth the price!

Well, Iraq can turn out good if you have political progress. we all know if you deploy hundreds of thousand soldiers some place it will be secure but that's not the point. What are we doing there now? We are waiting for them to become a developed country? Define the mission. Who knows what the mission is?

The Clinton campaign needs to find a way to humanize Obama. Right now, he is All Things to All People. And, yes, I do think his supporters are delusional.

People are protective of Obama because they've built him up so much.

I think she does need to focus on his lack of experience. Those of us who've worked on campaigns know what a "community organizer" is: an idealistic, inexperienced young person willng to work long hours for little pay. It's not a management position, despite the fancy title he had. Keeping mailing lists and knocking on doors qualifies him to be president?

Do Americans know what his real experience is? That he got elected because his opponents dropped out? That he was the heir apparent personally selected by his predessesor for his Illinois senate seat? That he only actually worked as an attorney for a few years?

What about the company he keeps? Rezko - un indictment for a host of felony charges related to influence peddling, set to go on trial this week and the man who helped Obama buy his expensive house. His pastor - a man he's claimed to be close to who has his own close ties to Farrakhan. Richard Daley - of the infamous Chicago Daleys. George Soros - Republican bugaboo and billionaire who sees himself as a Democratic kingmaker. Maybe Democrats don't want to think about this but the Republicans will. It won't be pretty.

The problem with McCain is he still does not get it -- we should never have invaded Iraq. It has destabilized the middle east and led to runaway gasoline prices which have made Bush, Cheney and all their cronies rich beyond imagination. McCain should divulge his investment portfolio so we can see how well off he has become from this war as well.

That's the thing about McCain.
He will retract and even apologize for his mistakes.
He doesn't pretend to be perfect and neither does Obama.
They are quick to apologize and move on to more important things.
Why can't Hillary do the same?
It's a laughing matter if she wants us to believe she is perfect.

Ok - we've heard the reaction of the people who are against him anyway. Big surprise that they would leap onto a statement that could (and was!!!) either deliberately misinterpreted or was capable of being misinterpreted, hence the immediate retraction. Nice to see that there are a few thinkers out there too, even amongst those who admit they are not McCain or Republican supporters.

The rest - well, you're entitled to your opinion, but with courtesy please. Opinions are a lot more credible that way - it usually means you actually thought before you lashed out too.

I am so sick of these people I look forward to the day when they are simply a spot in history and the country can move on. Thank God one of the worst Presidents in US history has finally left El Paso.

Just imagine what the stress of the white house will do to him if elected! One day he will bomb Iran, the next day he will want to take it back!

I will lose... (oh, did I say that out loud?) I'll take it back so everyone won't know what I was 'thinking'...

Bomb bomb bomb Iran....

Ralph Nader needs to be interviewed so that he can explain his views on corporate greed, support of a bloated, wasteful pentagon budget and the "militaryindustrial" complex, compounded by lobbyists who tend to push congress with agenda that are not in the public interest. A debate between the future democratic candidate and Nader would be a winner if staged by CNN because it would open up issues and concerns that so far have been ignored by the candidates.Just because Nad er has no chance of being elected is no reason to ignore his important position points.

Wow. He is not sure he can win, yet everyone's talking McCain because of all his experience. How can he position this country for anything when he is not confident if he can win over the America people. This man too old to be running for President. Go home and take that botox wife with you.

McCain is a guy i respect but his policeys are not! What he went through is something no one else should have to-it was horrible.......

and thats my point

this old man has seen the worst of war and still wishes to subject many more innocent Americans to the same potential torture he endured

specially after 60% of the people hate the war-how does he sleep at night knowing how hypocritical he sounds??

I wish McCain's straight talk express actually talked straight on issues i agree with

sadly, for now, ill be voting For Obama OR Clinton in the general election, although i hope its Obama on the ballot
