Obama's campaign has issued its own 3 a.m. ad.
Obama's campaign has issued its own 3 a.m. ad.

(CNN) — In a direct response to a Hillary Clinton television ad, Barack Obama's campaign Friday released its own 30 second spot raising the prospect of an early morning foreign policy crisis.

"It’s 3 a.m. and your children are safe and asleep," the ad's narrator states in an obvious take off of the Clinton ad released earlier in the day. "But there’s a phone ringing in the White House. Something’s happening in the world. (Related: Clinton raises the stakes in new ad)

"When that call gets answered, shouldn’t the president be the one – the only one – who had judgment and courage to oppose the Iraq war from the start… Who understood the real threat to America was al-Qaeda, in Afghanistan, not Iraq," the narrator continues. "Who led the effort to secure loose nuclear weapons around the globe… In a dangerous world, it’s judgment that matters."

I agree. Sounds right to me.

aughhhh   February 29th, 2008 5:30 pm ET

Hillary spouts about her "experience". Well, I suppose if we want someone to organize a party or social event with foreign leaders " that are causing something to happen in the world", then she's our choice. She was never responsible for acting on or making any political decisions while she was the wife of the president or wife of Arkansas governor. She is trying to deceive the American people with her 35 years of experience line. I would feel much safer with OBAMA in the white house instead of someone who lies to promote her career. What an ego she has! Give up Hillary and go plan a party! Obama we can trust!

I bet somehow Hillary will spin it that this was an attack that Obama started. I can just see them saying "How dare Obama attack poor Hillary like that for no reason!"

hindsight is 20/20…………I would much rather have Clinton answer that call……and if not her, possibly McCain. afterall, I would like for them to know what to do when that call comes in.

Hillary,

What happens when you spit, while looking up. The spit fall back at you and hits your face. That is what's is happening to you.

I personally can't wait for Tuesday. Finally we will not need to hear her voice again.

Go Obama..straight to White House

Mike, Houston, TX   February 29th, 2008 5:33 pm ET

Yea yea yea. You opposed the war. So did millions of other Americans. Now what would you do tomorrow? Its the future. If Obama's only claim to be Commander in Chief and lead US foreign policy is this, then he should drop out of the race.

Obama cant even make up his own ad - He sees what Hillary does and then does the same thing. This is just like all of the questions at the debate when he just says - yeah what Hillary said.
What a loser.

Obama is proving himself an agile candidate, who is not only "swift" to respond but always on point. Well played.

Wow, Obama. You're good.

I want a commander-in-chief who not only knows how to respond to real life emergencies, but has the focus and organization to head off negative attacks like the one Hillary just sent out in less than eight hours.

This is a real indicator of the kind of serious, determined, responsive president with exceptional judgment he is sure to be.

Don't miss this opportunity, America!

OBAMA '08!!!

Byron in CA   February 29th, 2008 5:35 pm ET

lol, more double speak from obama. When people don't fall for what he's saying, he shows that he is a true politican. Problem with his judgement here is that it's the same day he's saying Hillary's campaign's ad is a scare tactic. So what does that make his ad. Change you can beleive in = whatever I have to say that sounds good.

Elenadia   February 29th, 2008 5:36 pm ET

Precisely right. Obama has the judgement and intelligence to make the right decisions, Hillary is a " go-along get-along" politician who makes decisions on the deals from her special interest clients.

midge from ohio   February 29th, 2008 5:36 pm ET

Grow up Obama, can't you be original?

Jerry Hersch   February 29th, 2008 5:36 pm ET

Clinton's judgement has already been shown to be flawed in the way she has run her campaign..she ignored the small states as she would..most small nations of the world …She only counted on 11 large US states…..how many of the worlds nations will be ignored until we would stand all alone.
Treaties with someone who ignores the rules about Michigan and Florida or the way delegates are selected in Texas..she would change the rules after the fact and all is signed–who would make a treaty with her as head of our nation ?

You not only arrogant, you are quite stupid to think this counter ad would make anybody want to vote for you. Shame on you Barack Obama.

Ann in Texas.

Austin, Texas   February 29th, 2008 5:38 pm ET

Obama cannot win the General Election.

The polls do not show the Clinton supporters defecting to McCain based on his experience vs Obama's experience. Majority of Clinton supporters support her for the experience factor. If she isn't the nominee, are they going to vote for Obama? McCain will get the Clinton supporters who think that experience, and understanding the presidents roll is more important that pep rallies and talks of change and hope.

Eric   February 29th, 2008 5:38 pm ET

The Clinton camp should ask Obama if he thinks that Hillary "failed" the test in 2002 and this somehow means she is not prepared to be President if that also means that each one of the Senators who voted for the bill (including Kerry and Edwards or any of his high level endorsers who voted for the war) also are not prepared to be President.

Rob   February 29th, 2008 5:39 pm ET

OUCH!!!

He could have gotten real nasty with this considering her behavior this past week and lack of poise in the debates. But this is like hitting a line drive at the pitcher.

NoBamma   February 29th, 2008 5:40 pm ET

Ok… a little tired of hearing he opposed the war when he did not even vote on it. He has voted to finance the war. He needs to get over himself a little bit. Has he done one thing on the Nato committee? No but he has had a year.. that is 365 days. actually he has had longer than that.. but.

I actually liked him up until I watched the last few debates….uhm.. I agree with Hillary on that. America is going to be in serious trouble if he is elected…

Patrick   February 29th, 2008 5:40 pm ET

This ad and the speed with which it was delivered shows that Obama has superior judgment simply because he was intelligent enough to hire great and talented people to run his campaign. Hillary's campaign on the other hand is full of corruption and nepotism rivaling George W.'s cabinet. Do we really want another President that's going to hand out jobs in the White House as treats for their loyalty?

March 4th, Clinton campaign's coup de grace.

judith seifer   February 29th, 2008 5:41 pm ET

Absolutely sick of your Wolf and his obvious dislike for Barack Obama. His behaviour as a news spokesman of late is very unprofessional, disappointing and grating. I was a daily follower of this program as a Democrat Abroad in Toronto, I would sooner watch cspan or the BBC where coverage is more even and less politicized. And, your other blow hard Jack should retire. As A native New Yorker, I supported Ms. Clinton twice as well as her spouse now her newest desperation tactics are making me sick.

Obama can't beat McCain. That's why the Republicans are voting for Obama. They know McCain can't beat Hillary. America needs Hillary to go to work for America.

NickSP   February 29th, 2008 5:43 pm ET

Again, this is all Oblahma's got? The one time he made a judgement call, and he wasn't even privy to Senate documents at the time (and said in an interview in 2004 that if he had been, he does not know how he would have voted)! It is old and tired - get a new line! Oh wait, he HAS no words of his own - "I agree with Hillary", "Yes, Sen. Clinton is right", "Yeah, what she said".

Foreign Policy and National Security doesn't come with a teleprompter. Obama is an empty suit.

Val   February 29th, 2008 5:43 pm ET

His ad is pathetically lacking in force or effectiveness at best. Very childship and unpresidential of him.

praetorian, Fort Myers, Florida   February 29th, 2008 5:44 pm ET

counsilman cornwell of cleveland is a coward. be a man and stick to your decision. wavering back and forth is weak. and he is in a leadership position? no wonder cleveland is suffering. cornwell = less than a man.

Let's play "Follow the Leader"   February 29th, 2008 5:44 pm ET

CNN please post this comment and not erase it :-)

During the entire campaign, Senator Obama has been playing follow the leader with Senator Clinton:

1. Clinton leaves her name on the ballot in Michigan and Obama then LEARNS to leave his name on the ballot in Florida

2. Clinton gives a response during the debate and Obama parrots what Clinton has said - again, again,. and again.

3. Clinton leads off with an ad representing judgment and Obama now puts one out…..

WAKE UP AMERICA. Because someone can play follow the leader well does not make them the leader. Clinton is the leader here and under numerous circumstances clearly…and if one is not the leader - the view is always the same.

Question - who will he turn to to lead if he gets the nomination?

Vote Clinton, Obama is not prepared to handle this.

Everyone should be paying attention, we hear it on the news, the Dems will unite behind there nominee, I don't think so, I think we are already too divided.

Clinton or nothing for me.

Can't support NO experience for President! Obama

Can't vote for 100 more years of war. McCain

The only sure thing out there is CLINTON, Go Hillary.

godlesspriest   February 29th, 2008 5:46 pm ET

Obama may be new to the scene, but what is most promising about him is his campaign's quick response to any attack. John Kerry had a lot more time in the Senate, but apparently hadn't learned that fundamental necessity.

Cynthia   February 29th, 2008 5:46 pm ET

Looks like another case where Hillary has the actually idea and Obama copies her. Reminds me of the debates.

Patrick Peavy Plano,TX   February 29th, 2008 5:47 pm ET

But wait, isn't he using fear? Didnt' he say a few hours ago how wrong this was? Once again I am confused by the Obama double standard. At least he is making it an easy decision between himself and John McCain if Hillary doesn't capture the nomination.

Cindy   February 29th, 2008 5:47 pm ET

Well, you know what? She started it. He's just responding to it… pretty cleverly, too.

Roosevelt   February 29th, 2008 5:47 pm ET

For all the Clinton Klan out there…just vote for who you believe in and quit putting down Obama for his strong message of hope and his, soon to be displayed, ability to draw on the greatness of a 'more' unified America!

A. C. Fundy   February 29th, 2008 5:48 pm ET

Judgment definitely trumps experience. Abraham Lincoln was one of our greatest Presidents. Before he was elected to the White House, he had served six years in the Illinois legislature and two years in the U,S, House of Representatives. This is less political experience than Obama has. Lincoln was defeated in his race for the U.S. Senate, but his lack of experience was no drawback in the White House.

Mark V.   February 29th, 2008 5:48 pm ET

Annamica, so Al-Qaida has a base in Iraq? You must know something nobody in the Administration knows. If they did, they would bomb the base out of existence. A "presence in Iraq" is not the same as a "base in Iraq." Al-Qaida is present is many countries of the world. Are we going to bomb all those countries?

eva   February 29th, 2008 5:49 pm ET

Sen.Obama you did not vote against the war. You were only " talking "against the war, and after talk , you were fallowed Sen Clinton pattern voting the same way as she did.

ABB - Illinois   February 29th, 2008 5:49 pm ET

Does Obama do anything original? He copies others speeches, agrees with all of Hillary's debate answers and now he even copies her ads.

Concerned Canadian   February 29th, 2008 5:50 pm ET

One more thing. Since Obama says he always agrees with Hillary, if he were President and a crisis came up in the middle of the night, he'd call Hillary and ask her what should he do !!

Hillary Clinton for President…..pleeeeeeze !!!!!

ABG   February 29th, 2008 5:51 pm ET

Well said BG from Texas. I do not want somebody who is spouting sending troops to Pakistan thereby getting us into another war answering that 3 AM call. I also do not want someone who says it will be "cool" to sit in the Oval Office. Is he running for himself or for us? I am beginning to wonder.

Larry Dickman - IA   February 29th, 2008 5:51 pm ET

To all of those who actions mean more than words, what has Senator Clinton done? What has she done to work with the Republicans? That is the only way anything is going to get done in the future.

What has she done in Foreign Policy, and relying on her years as First Lady does not qualify her.

Do we really want someone in the White House again who is a very polarizing person?

Something to think about.

Natasha Redgrove   February 29th, 2008 5:51 pm ET

Who is Obama's opponent… Bill or hillary ?

Kenneth   February 29th, 2008 5:52 pm ET

I guess what comes around, goes around. And, I am really sick of this experience thing Hillary is running on. I'll take better judgement with less experience over lousy judgement with more experience any day. Look at people like Dick Cheney and Donald Rumsfeld. They are old as dirt and have made some serious mistakes. And, you can not blame Obama for having less experience than Hillary (if she actually does). She is about 15 years older than he is. Is she practicing age discrimination?

ml   February 29th, 2008 5:52 pm ET

Obama denounced Hillary's video - but then he he did the same one? Should we understand that he is denouncing himself also?
Spreads confusion - should we trust his first words, or second, or third, or………..?
Hillary is steady!

Closely Watching   February 29th, 2008 5:52 pm ET

Judgment does matter. Some may say it is not exactly apples to apples, but I have seen many instances in the workforce when a 20-year veteran makes a questionable or wrong call while the new guy (or gal) pegs it. This is commonly known as thinking outside the box…a fresh face often brings fresh perspective.

While anything can happen on Super Tuesday II, so far the majority of the voters have used their judgment to put Senator Obama in the lead in the number of states won, the majority of the popular vote and the most pledged delegates. And hardly a day goes by when at least one of the super delegates exercises their judgment and endorses Senator Obama. While there is still a chance Senator Clinton will walk away the winner my better judgment would bet my last dollar on Senator Obama.

Barack fell for Hiilary's ad and then stooped down to the same level. Better to stay above the fray Sen. Obama.

ABG   February 29th, 2008 5:55 pm ET

Great. Obama parrots Hillary Clinton's comments in the debates. Now he is copying her ads. Does he have one plan that is his own? Sending troops to Pakistan is NOT a good plan. If the only thing he has is her Iraq vote, I am not interested in trusting him with my destiny. I wonder how he would have voted since he said in 2004 HE was not sure what he would have done. He is too unknown for me to trust my life to good speeches.

Donna   February 29th, 2008 5:55 pm ET

Obama only has one answer as usual. Gee I made the right vote. Where was that on his usual stump speech! I feel sorry for this country if they don't wake up to this man and his lack of experience. He was not in the Senate to vote. Makes it easy for someone to say I voted no. He sure has voted to support since being in the Senate. He sure didn't use good judgement when making deals as a lawyer.

CosmicConservative   February 29th, 2008 5:55 pm ET

The most eye-opening thing to me in all the political "ticker" stories on CNN is the blazing hatred that liberals have for conservatives. It's a sort of hatred that they never show for our enemies. And it is a hatred that has grown so profound that they routinely ignore facts and history.

Time and again the whole "Bush took us to war" theme comes up. As if the majority of Democrats (including John Kerry and Hillary Clinton) did not vote to go to war based on the same intelligence that Bush had.

Here's the deal. If Barack Obama did NOT go to war with Iraq based on the intelligence we had at the time, he is not fit to be President. And if he has a similar situation in the future and with the same sort of intelligence is provided he had better go to war if this country intends to survive.

The intelligence was partly wrong, but you have to make decisions based on the knowledge you have at the time. And the fact that the vast majority of Democrats and Republicans agreed on the right course of action provides pretty good evidence for the decision of going to war being a sound one.

Obama wants to claim that he would have made a decision THEN based on what we know NOW. And you Obama supporters are buying it. And if he gets in the White House and has to make that decision, he will KNOW that his supporters will turn on him if the makes the RIGHT NATIONAL SECURITY choice, because he is promising right now to make the WRONG one.

God help us all if Obama wins. I don't care for Hillary or McCain, but Obama is a babe in the woods when it comes to being President. He is another Jimmy Carter with better looks and a better speech writer. But the end result will be the same. Reduced U.S. prestige, reduced U.S. military might, reduced U.S. geopolitical impact and increased threat to all of us.

But those blinded by hate now will not see it until it is far too late. Blinded by a personality cult and hatred of their ideological opponents.

that call is never going to come, its rediculous, and both candidates are using scare tactics. the real threat to America is a terrorist, but the possibility of a senile 74 year old white man potentially running the country!! its a new era of human history, one that involves space and deep sea exploration, a global world, united by the people not the nations, a world where infinite amounts of information can become available to hundreds of millions of people, and a world that is tragically near its "human holding capacity" Our former notions of what made a good or bad president are obsolete, and its time that as a people we begin to develop a plan for the future, and this election is merely a starting block. so ask yourself, not what sort of world to 'I' want to live in, but rather, what sacrifices do i need to make today, so that my children, and my children's children can live in a life that isn't plagued by the problems of today's world

MIwatch   February 29th, 2008 5:58 pm ET

In fact, Obama didn't make any judgment on the war when the Congress was voting on the issue. How can he claim that he has better judgment?

Nathan   February 29th, 2008 5:58 pm ET

Here's a thought.

Maybe if the President was a person who had agreed to TALK to America's enemies without insisting on preconditions, that call wouldn't be coming in.

It amazes me how many of us are proud that we are bad neighbors; how many of us think we can get Cuba to change using tactics that would NEVER get us to change.

We must thing all the other people in the world are strange, completely different from us. All those "other people" need to be threatened in order to get them to agree with us.

Wayne - Texas   February 29th, 2008 5:59 pm ET

First, for those of you Hillary supporters still caught up on the subcommittee issue, you might want to go back and read the last sentence of that article.

Second, where is the substance behind the claim that Obama will not be effective in exercising judgement? He has been right on the issues that matter from day one, Hillary has been wrong. Why? Because he stands up for what is right rather than what the special interest highest bidder wants. No, he does not play the Washington cut throat game like Clinton, but that is why Americans are rallying behind him. He is change we can believe in.

The kitchen sink is not working. Obama's answer was perfect, because at the end of the day, he will be right on day one and not have to go back and correct his mistakes. Hillary supporters need to realize that it is over and, like their candidate, need to get onboard the Obama Express because it is on its way to the White House.

steveo   February 29th, 2008 5:59 pm ET

There were 21 Democratic Senators who opposed the 2002 authority to use force in Iraq resolution. Obama was one of them, not the only one.

What about what is he going to do about the war now. That is all the past. Obama…quick living in the past and look to the future.

Cryston, St. Louis   February 29th, 2008 6:00 pm ET

A president must make quick responses when attacked. If Kerry and Gore had done this when the Republican machine was hitting them, we would probably not have George W. in the White House. And for those who say it is a double standard. This is clearly a "response" ad and not a "fear" ad. Everyone is entitled to respond in word or in action to accusations made against them. That's the kind of President I will be voting for.

Jason in Fairbanks, AK   February 29th, 2008 6:01 pm ET

Brilliant response by the Obama team to neutralize Hillary's ad. This is the kind of smart rapid-response he'll use to beat the Republicans.

I'm getting really sick of reading comments here about how Hillary has specific policy ideas and Obama's an empty suit. That comes, very ironically, from people who haven't actually looked into their policy records, but have drunk the kool-aid of Hillary's ads and speeches in which she won't shut up about how "experienced" she is.

Listen more closely when Hillary talks of her experience — she's very short on specifics. Her message is not comprised of specifics. Instead, her message is, "I'm very specific! I'm very experienced!"

Meanwhile, if you dig through their legislative records, you find that Obama's got more big accomplishments to his name than Hillary does, and he did it in fewer years. But Hillary's people aren't interested in actual substance–they're interested in who keeps talking about how substantive they are. There's a difference.

Chanda -Cincinnati   February 29th, 2008 6:01 pm ET

All of you Texas people better look out. Clinton is already set to challenge the voting practices in your state. I am sure this will only happen if she loses, because you know Texas is SUPPOSED to go to Hillary. Just like Florida was SUPPOSED to go to Bush…UMMM. I wonder who Hillary will get to steal Texas for her if Obama wins? The Governor is not her brother….

As for that Ad she is running, the citizens of Texas should take lead from a quote by President Clinton:

"If one candidate’s trying to scare you and the other one’s trying to get you to think, if one candidate’s appealing to your fears and the other one’s appealing to your hopes, you better vote for the person who wants you to think and hope.”

-Bill Clinton, 2004

You have GOT to love the irony in that!!!!! Ohio 4 Obama!!!!

Once again, just like the debates, in fact this entire campaign, Obama takes his purely reactionary cues from Clinton. That's leadership?

MN Woman   February 29th, 2008 6:02 pm ET

Ah, only the new messiah had the presence of mind to oppose the war, especially when he wasn't even in Congress and not under the same pressure. I knew it was wrong from the start. Maybe I can be the Messiahette!!

Avis C, Richton Park,IL   February 29th, 2008 6:03 pm ET

Hillary Clinton's ad is in a way fair game and correct. However, Barack Obama's ad is also. If the red phone in the President's office did ring I'd rather have someone who could respond with the quickness using good judgement. It seems Barack has the better judgement. His position on the Iraq war was correct all along, he said he would go after terrorist leaders without Mushariff's permission if they were proven to be in Pakistan (which Bush and Hillary said was naieve) and Bush did just that over a week ago. He has the fore sight and fore tought to respond to his critics very quickly and I think this shows great leadership. I think he would be better to answer that phone!

Gbenga   February 29th, 2008 6:04 pm ET

The Obama campaign is sharp! See how quickly they responded to the Hillary ad. They didn't even wait 24 hours. The responded with their own countering ad in a matter of hours. When you can act fast and decisively like that - now, that's change and judgment we can believe in!

George from Minneapolis   February 29th, 2008 6:04 pm ET

That about hits the nail on the head. Experience means nothing, in fact it is a negative thing if your judgement is faulty.

Hillary should just be quiet about experience. Obama will continue to hit her over the head with her Iraq vote.

Chris   February 29th, 2008 6:04 pm ET

What about Obama's supporters threatening Hillary's superdelegates? Where's the story on that?

Cesar   February 29th, 2008 6:05 pm ET

Mr. Obama,

Your respond ad to Senator Clinton’s ad is a perfect example of where you stand. Be original!

Go Hillary – We love you in Texas.

finau fejee man   February 29th, 2008 6:12 pm ET

obama was not not following the leader but deflecting the vicious attacks of a power hungry black widow who will at any cost is a fighter but is using more energy lashing out venom that doesnt seem to work after it becomes a habit.
secondly Obama might just well be the favour of the people of the world. The Earth could use a break with the pressure that is developping right now and a third world war looms over oil religion and indifferences, the conscious and morals of humanity could use a break …… but i guess America wont and doesnt sees it that way…..
i wont hesitate on bamas in experience that yes he is over clinton…. but sometimes the lesser has more ears than the former and is willing to accept newr ideas and ways to provide for a level playing field.

Yolanda Diaz   February 29th, 2008 7:16 pm ET

st louis   February 29th, 2008 7:16 pm ET

Way to go Obama's team!!! Intelligent come back. McCain get ready. LMAO

Josh   February 29th, 2008 7:16 pm ET

Hillary is toast–her ad plagiarized one by McCain! So much for her originaility. Obama in his reply ad sensibly reminds us why Hillary should never be president, because she lacks the necessary judgment to be ready on day 1.

Catherine   February 29th, 2008 7:17 pm ET

I think the ad is appropriate answer to Hillary's as anyone can answer the phone at 3:00 A. M. but the one you want to take care of the United States is one who can be calm and use wise judgement in tricky situations. Seeing Hillary's many recent changes in her approach to her campaign, I do not know who Hillary is anymore. I do not want a president who is going to complain about being asked the tough questions first. I could not understand that complaint from a candidate that says she is tough and has been vetted but yet she complains about being asked tough questions first. A Frontrunner should be able to answer tough questions put to them no matter if they are the first to be asked or the last. I also do not want a president that will play the victim and blame others for their misfortune and not accept some responsibility for their own doing. I have had that with this Bush administration already. I want a candidate that will run on their own issues cleanly and honestly without a lot of back fighting and fear mongering. I want a better life and feel some hope for a positive future. I am tired of living in fear to sway my vote. You can't get more experienced than Vice President Dick Cheney and look where that got us. If Hillary is the right candidate then let her run on her economic policies and leave the fearmongering to the Republicans.

anne in wisconsin   February 29th, 2008 7:17 pm ET

Both adds annoy me–both are using fear and it's annoying. But neither add affects my decision. I support Hillary because I think experience should be a factor. She and Barack hold similar policy positions, have voted similarly in the Senate. But she shows a more sophisticated knowledge of the issues, foreign policy and domestic. I do not give him credit for "better judgement"–he was not in the Senate when he made that speech against the Iraq war, he has admitted, gallantly, that he does not know how he would have voted had he actually been in the Senate, and he and Hillary have voted the same on Iraq since his joining in the Senate. She is simply more prepared for the hardest job in the world. He may be the even better President in 2016, but not now.

Nothing she does now will save her on March 4th. THE GAME IS OVER

Independent-Latina-voter, Salt Lake City, UT   February 29th, 2008 7:18 pm ET

Obama CAN win a national election. Hillary supporters ignore the fact that in a national poll she has between a 47-50% disapproval among likely voters.

A lot of those voting for Sen. Obama have been voting against her.

OHIO: wake up! Bush-Clinton-Bush-Clinton IS NOT change!

Hillary voted FOR the war that's costing us, $400 million a day! What could we do as a nation with all that money?

Hillary says she has more experience BUT where was her wisdom and experience when she voted for war in Iraq? While letting Bin Laden and his terrorists continue to roam free?!

Isn't it time we CHANGE? Have another point of view, some NEW ideas?

Please vote Obama, Texas, Ohio, Rhode Island & Vermont! We NEED CHANGE!

Marc   February 29th, 2008 7:18 pm ET

Ah, Barack… what makes you so arrogant to believe you have what it takes to lead… ? Well, you'll sure be able to give one helluva keynote for Senator Clinton, though!

Jonesy   February 29th, 2008 7:18 pm ET

I see a few people taunting Obama, saying "Be original!". IMHO, he's the more original of the two candidates…..As he gains more popularity, she's changing tact, direction, attack strats, and advisers faster than french fires in front of Bill.

For eight years she championed failed health care reform….bashing the insurance and health care companies, as well as the republicans for stalling her efforts. Fast forward 8 years….and NOW she has the right plan! NOW, she's the most qualified! NOW she's the Senator with the most financial backing from the health insurance industry (AKA special interests). How Ironic.

Obama vs. McCain - Dems have a chance

Hillary vs. McCain - 4 more years!

Delores   February 29th, 2008 7:18 pm ET

Anyone but Obama   February 29th, 2008 7:19 pm ET

Andy   February 29th, 2008 7:20 pm ET

I would love to see what the people of other nations think about this campaign between the democrats. I'm a Canadian and support both the democratic party and Obama and I have a feeling that this is not only a very Canadian perspective and hope of fruition but one that a majority of people around the world are longing for. Yes, i'll concede that the influence of the United States is far reaching and has consequences ranging from economic to military and I support the war in Afghanistan …oh wait, that's right i said the war in Afghanistan and not Iraq (though i support the efforts to liberate any and all oppressed people), but the immediate threat was Al Queda and still is. NATO needs help in Afghanistan. Canada is the number one contributer to the war there next to you the U.S. and we need to refocus and end this threat at it's source, quiet the spread of hate from a hijacked religion and get back to economic prosperity for both us, and Mexico and renegotiate NAFTA in a way that reflects the needs, hopes and desires of the common person across the Americas.

Quincy, Chicago, Illinois   February 29th, 2008 7:21 pm ET

I personally like both Sen. Clinton and Sen. Obama (in case some of you don't know, that is the proper way to address these candidates. For me though, it comes down to who is the best bet for not only our domestic problems and issues, but also dealing with the world's global problems and by far, the promise for peace, stability and unification is in the Sen. Obama message.

If we have any chance of reversing the damage done by the Republican strategies of dealing wih "all" Americans and all people of the world, then we need someone who is not polarizing. That can't begin on day one in oval office and not at 3;00 a.m. for a red phone call. That had to begin on day one of the campaign, and on that note, Sen. Clinton is the one missing in action on this very very very important note.

linda   February 29th, 2008 7:22 pm ET

For those of you who truly believe that Hillary's motives are pure, watch out. Look and you will see behind her facade a very controlling person who only wants to get in the White House (again) and have things her way by any means necessary.

Obama is the ONLY one that can unite this country and bring back respect for this UNITED states.

Some of the Hillary supporters are so dumb!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How can you be ORIGINAL in a debate or in responding to an attack?

Think of the "bully" in school. The only way to get back at a bully is to use his/her own words against him/her. Please do your research. But, again, some of Hillary's supporters cannot do good research; how pathetic!

Hillary is a bully who uses fear. The only way to get back at her is to use her own words against her– that in common sense judgment folks!

John Stevens   February 29th, 2008 7:23 pm ET

Even Obama does not know how he would have voted on the resolution to give Bush the OK to go into Iraq. Not my analysis - his own - in support of Kerry in the last presidental election.

Obama re-writing history - as fact.

Joan Conklin   February 29th, 2008 7:23 pm ET

We have lived in "Bush" fear country long enough!! Are we really wanting more of the same from Clinton….FEAR!! I must applaud Obama for setting the record straight. Americans all over the world know the unbeliebable way BUSH has distorted and distroyed the image and respect of our country. So not only do we live in fear ….we generate fear in others. We need to engage in building with other country leaders to create a new world where fear is put to bed. Obama's response to the Clinton ad was perfect. May all those in Texas and Ohio have the courage and conviction to vote for a future president who will work with all to make a safe world…which in turn makes us live without fear.

Senator Obama's team….

Well played. Very impressive response times to opponent attacks. I want this team working for America.

Senator Clinton just whines, stomps her feet and throws kitchen sinks at people when the going gets tough. Heck, she doesn't know how to financially manage a campaign.

Viktoriya   February 29th, 2008 7:25 pm ET

Obama such a controlling person.
Don’t use his middle name, it makes him uncomfortable. Don’t question him on the issue, he can only hope. It is not a game. We are choosing president. Enough of the childish play.

What foreign policy experience does Clinton have that gives her the right to air ads like this ? Being on a couple of Senate committees ?

This is a race for President of the United States, not President of the committees.

Dolores   February 29th, 2008 7:27 pm ET

I don't think I can stand four years (because that is all they'll be) of Obama's sermonizing and harping over this one thing. He was always against the war! So what? He was an Illinois State Senator at the time.

He has voted yes on everything else pertaining to the war. If he was truly opposed he would have shown some moxie and voted nay!

Candidate of change? He's a whiner this guy. He really has done nothing to qualify him yet for the Presidency of the United States.

Every President of change this country has ever had at least had some mileage and experience.

Mara   February 29th, 2008 7:28 pm ET

Wow, Obama's running out of material. That's their great comeback? Yes, we've all heard that he got that one answer right. Most of his other answers he cribs off Hillary. And who cares if he got that right? What does he plan on doing about Iraq? And will he bother to show up at committee meetings?

There is one major piece of history the supporters of Hillary seem to forget. Hillary actual admitted to not reading the ENTIRE report on Iraq before VOTING FOR IT. CHECK THE RECORD!!. The reason she voted for it was for a few reasons.. She had planned to run for President, she thought the war would be over by now, and she would appear TOUGH on National security. Unfortunately, it was a PURELY POLITICAL decision that did not turn out the way she thought it would and now it is costing her the Presidency.

wiley   February 29th, 2008 7:30 pm ET

i like senator obama he is what the country needs. I lived in westchester county for two years, you should ask what has she done for own community. The poor have so many challenges there ,along with the latino people and hispanics. They work jobs that barely pay bills, and there are poor people literally stacked on top of each otherand the dream of ever owning a home in westchester county is a dream that will never be realized.

Get real if she gets a call at 3:00 in the morning and nobody else knows about it then we are in big big big trouble. We have already see her impaired judgement, not releasing tax returns, voted to go into Iraq, White Water, the fail health plan do I need to say more.

Jdona   February 29th, 2008 7:37 pm ET

Wow. Not only does Obama have to wait for Hillary to answer a question before he knows how to answer himself, now he has to wait for her to create effective advertising so he can copy that as well. What on earth is he going to do if he DOES win the primary and DOESN'T have Hillary to answer his questions for him? Does the man even have an original thought of his own? Cause if he does, he certainly didn't show it at the debates.

Janet, Missouri   February 29th, 2008 7:37 pm ET

Hillary can not continue to blame her poor judgment on George Bush lying or deceiving her. Who in their right mind (especially in the Democratic party) would ever trust George Bush? Her failure to acknowledge her lapse in judgment is yet another reason why I could not support Hillary. We all make mistakes, but when she starts blaming others I can not respect her

Robert in Albuquerque   February 29th, 2008 7:37 pm ET

JohnS   February 29th, 2008 7:37 pm ET

How can this woman ever become "commander-in-chief?" With all the emotional break downs in recent months, I remain shocked at the "judgment" of those who would like someone who cannot even run an effective campaign to be a "commander-in-chief" for this great nation. How will be holdup from onslaughts from the Iranian verbal attacks let alone the Russians!!!

American has made many mistakes in the past, this will be the last that will bring the nation crumbling. All powerful nations have tumbled at the expense of "dumb" decision makers.

LSS   February 29th, 2008 7:39 pm ET

I don't understand why folks can't see right through Hilary at this point. I was looking at them both in the beginning. She has as many personalities as "Sybil." She will do "whatever" to get herself elected the nominee. Have you asked yourselves why? Do you realize there is going to be a hearing involving the Clintons starting tomorrow in California? She is SOOOOO desperate that she's grasping at this point. And I really hope the people of Ohio is not falling for any of it and remember NAFTA. She really needs to bow out. She still has some sort of career in politics if she keeps going she's going to ruin it for herself. She and her game playing have really ticked me off. If she somehow manages to steal the nomination, I will vote for McCain, for spite. Neither of them is the answer but just so it blows up in her face.

Independent4Hillary   February 29th, 2008 7:42 pm ET

OBAMA
You didn't "support" the war in Iraq..and you did not "vote" for it…Of course you didn't and neither did I for the exact same reason. WE WEREN'T MEMBERS OF THE SENATE!!! "If" you win the nomination (doubtful) then I can honestly say I DID NOT VOTE FOR BARAK OBAMA.

Now that is an honest answer and not hiding behind rhetoric.

People of Texas, Ohio, RI and VT…. Senator Hillary Clinton is tried and true leader. She will be there to correct the mess left by the Bush Administration and can fight what is left of the GOP attack machine. There should not even be a consideration for who will beat McCain, his campaign is broke and can't fight the "Will of the People". Vote Senator Hillary Clinton for President of the United States of America.

If Hillary wins… she will need Obama to run with her. He proved that he can move people to vote willingly. If Obama wins… he doesn't need Hillary to be the VP, there are other well qualified candidate who can do the job and will not whine if they did not get what they want. Even the chef from the white house doesn't like her, she whines whenever she doesn't get what she wants and throws things at the people working in the whitehouse. My cousin who is an admin in the white house got yelled at for no reason when her so called health care plan did not get approved. How can she lead when no one wants to follow her?

sick of all the hatin'   February 29th, 2008 7:43 pm ET

It makes sense that he quasi-copied her ad…it points out how trivial the argument really is. I found Hillary's ad to be a little weak, considering the fact she's really in a tight spot now: Win, or go home. Obama never strikes the first blow, but he is quick to defend himself. Show's he's more noble than Hillary, who has been stooping pretty low lately. All you Obama haters need to shut up already. But same to the Hillary haters. This isn't what it's about. Polls show Obama has the best chance to beat McCain. So your choice should be clear. The two are very similar on policy, but Hillary just can't win the election. So lets not continue this divisive war!! Lets unite around a candidate who isn't going to bring on the 100 years war!!!

As proven on these blogs, he has been more divisive than any other candidate I've seen, and I've been voting since 1976.His "new ad" shows he can't even make a commercial on his own, he needs Hillary to do it first! Final note, how can you Obama supporters follow a man who doesn't keep his word? In 2004 he promised he wouldn't run for president in 2008 because "he needed more experience". His words, not mine. This is only 1 thing out of an ever growing list of reasons why he should NOT be president.

PAUL   February 29th, 2008 7:47 pm ET

FINALLY SOMEONE REPORTING THE NASTY POLITICS OF "THE HOLY OBAMA"; I SAID EARLIER AND I WILL SAY IT AGAIN BORACK IS A CULT FOLLOWING. NOT THAT IT IS HIS FAULT IT IS THE CORRUPTION OF WASHINGTON THAT HAS BROUGHT THIS ON. THE DO NOTHINGS. BUT THE PROBLEM IS HE IS NOT A MESSIAH, HE DOES NOT HAVE THE EXPERIENCE, HE HAS BEEN GIVEN ALL HIS LISTED ACCOMPLISHMENTS IN ILLINOIS, ALL THESE ACCOMPLISHMENTS WAS GIVEN TO HOM IN THE LAST YEAR HE WAS THERE. LOOK IT UP ITS A FACT. HE HAS DONE NOTHING IN THE US SENATE, BUT PREPARE TO RUN FOR PRESIDENT. HE HAS THE BACKING SUPPORT OF AMERICAN RADICAL ISLAM GROUPS, AS WELL AS HIS PASTOR, WHO PRAISES AND AWARDS LEADERS OF THESE MUSLIM GROUPS. AMERICA NEEDS TO WAKE UP AND SEE HE IS NOT THE ONE TO CHANGE WASHINGTON. HE WILL MAKE IT WORSE.

Jane   February 29th, 2008 7:47 pm ET

Hellary is just giving out the same ole crap. That's why she lost the last 10 primaries! GO OBAMA!

jp/michigan   February 29th, 2008 7:47 pm ET

Give me break! That won't be a President with goo judgement that answers the phone it will be Obama the calculating politician. You know the one who continuously changes his mind on the war. First I am proud to say I am against it, then I sate I don't know what I would have don't if given the same info other senators had.

Carolyn in California   February 29th, 2008 7:48 pm ET

Could somebody at CNN please find out, then report the information, as to how many times Presidents have been called on in the middle of the night to make a critical, split decision without consulting the people who advise him, such as a general, or his other advisors.
If that is happening in the White House, then maybe we'd better find out why and what were the circumstances. I for one would really like to know.

Hillary is really grasping at straws in her recent ad, isn't she?

For those of you who seem to think that Mrs. Clinton isn't reinventing the wheel have clearly stopped using your brains.

Doesn't it bother you that in a country such as ours, that 2 families (Clinton + Bush) have ruled for over 20 years. If Mrs. Clinton wins the nomination that could/would make it 24/28 years. Dynasties are not what America is about.

For the women who are voting for Mrs. Clinton ONLY because she is a woman — you are like the folks that voted for George Bush solely because he was pro-life. The fact that he lied to our country and sent our soldier to die wasn't very PRO-life.

For the minorities out their…AND I mean ALL minorities (Spanish/Latin Americans, Greek Americans, Asian Americans, etc) … A Obama nomination/election makes the way that much easier for someone from your group to get to the presidency. Is presidency would be a significant shift in the true inclusiveness of this country.

And yes, I was a big Bill Clinton supporter. He was a very good president BUT he did have his screw ups. The GENOCIDE in Rhwanda happened on his watch. His inaction as a human being and as Leader of the most powerful country in the world at the time, was unforgiveable AND will remain a stain on his legacy.

Mrs. Clinton chose to be spoon fed by the Bush administration on going to war with Iraq. The fact that she was First Lady privied her to information that should have raised her caution flags. Saying that that's all the information she was provided is utterly ridiculous. Her YEARS of experience should've raised her caution flags.
As a female New Yorker, I was a supporter of Mrs. Clinton BUT she fell out of favor with me when she became LAWYERLY about admitting that her vote was a mistake. She finally was cornered into answering that question at the end of the last debate. And she FINALLY said yes. It only took her a number of years.

A strong leader should be able to say - "you know what, I messed up, LETS FIX IT AND MOVE ON." You can't move on until you admit your mistakes. Our soldiers have died and are dying AND THAT IS NOTHING TO BE LAWYERLY ABOUT.

Mr. Obama, what do you call this ad? You said Clinton's Ad is scare ad. What's yours? Once again, your ad basically steals the premise of the Clinton ad. You are a hypocrite.

Texas, please vote for Hillary!

Lee   February 29th, 2008 7:52 pm ET

I understand that Mrs. Clinton has been around for a while, but I don't understand why she says she would be able to handle a crisis better than her opponents.

I went to her website, but I can't find anything that says she has prevented or reacted in a positive way to a specific crisis. The commercial would be better if she said exactly what she has done to prove she can answer the call. However; I am sure the commercial served its purpose and scared people into voting for her, just like Bush scared her into voting for the war.

Now that's experience you can trust.

Chris in Va.   February 29th, 2008 7:53 pm ET

The telephone ad was done in a previous campaign. It's Hillary that is plagiarizing.

Carolyn in CA   February 29th, 2008 7:54 pm ET

Obama does not have the experience to run our country. He will get us in trouble with his lack of experience on foreign policy. Not to mention that he evidently does not love our flag. My father and many uncles, fought for that flag in World War II and two of them did not come home. I fly that flag every day. Hillary will do alright and not only that, she has our ex President behind her. I don't know about the rest of you, but my life was great when he was President. But it has been rough since Bush took over.

s.b.   February 29th, 2008 7:58 pm ET

Making a speech when not in a position to make a vote is not foreign policy experience. This line is getting tired.

Obama hardly even shows up in the senate and has NEVER convened the committee that deals with Afghanistan.

If he's so concerned about al Qaeda in Afghanistan, why not convene the committee?

He's too busy running for President to show up or convene committees or vote.

Yeah Hillary answer that phone please.

anita   February 29th, 2008 7:59 pm ET

me too, Hillary me 2
wake up America
this is a childish response

Just like Michele Obama stating not to raise your children to be "hedge fund managers or corporate lawyers"
Care to know who she is slurring?
Hillary by way of Chelsea Clinton. Oh, that doesn't count as a slur on character because they are Clintons.
See the Obamamaniacs SPIN this remark off as out of context

joseph nwodo   February 29th, 2008 8:00 pm ET

It is a shame that the only meaningful campaign Hilary has since her loosing streak started is persistent attack on Obama. she can't believe what is happening to her… throwing away a contest she was almost certain to win. This is what happens when you go around underestimating your challenges/ problems. Obama on the other hand is an inspiration to his generation. Pls give him the chance!
