HOUSTON, Texas (CNN) – Mike Huckabee is clearly tired of being asked if he’s dropping out of the race.

“What is the big hurry here?” Huckabee asked reporters in Houston Sunday.  “I guess I fail to see it. The Democrats are still having a primary, and all of these [Republicans] who for the last two or three weeks have been saying, ‘let's hurry and get ours over with.’ Well, what's the hurry?”

“We have six or seven months before the convention, and another two months after that until we have the election,” continued Huckabee, adding, “I don't know that there's a bomb sitting under anybody's chair that's going to go off if we don't have the nominee all settled before we get through Texas and Ohio and go on to places like Mississippi and Pennsylvania and Nebraska and North Carolina.”

Trailing far behind John McCain in the polls with two days until primaries in Texas, Ohio, Rhode Island and Vermont, Huckabee said he’s moving forward optimistically and that in the past polls have been unreliable.

When asked if he is fracturing the Republican Party, Huckabee argued that Ronald Reagan stayed in the 1976 race despite calls for him to drop out and McCain himself continued to run against President George W. Bush in 2000 when the outcome seemed inevitable.

“So for us to suddenly act as if there’s a different urgency in 2008 than there was in 2000 and 1976 or 1980, any time we’ve had a primary, I’m not sure what that is,” said Huckabee.

Whatever the outcome, Huckabee says he would still like to play a role in the Republican Party, saying of his platform, “I think certainly the views and values [represent the future of the Party] but somebody has to articulate those views and values, somebody has to be willing to lead them.”

Atta' boy Huckabee! Tell it like it is! This is why we will continue to support you all the way! Maybe if everyone wasn't in such a rush there would be time for that debate between Mike and McCain that nearly 30,000 Americans are DEMANDING!!! Let's present an opportunity to have these two, remaining candidates underscore their differences!! WHY NOT??? Americans…are you aware of these petitions/protests? Mike Huckabee graciously requested a debate with McCain and McCain declined, saying he was too busy….The debate has been scheduled….we're just waiting for McCain to agree to it. Didn't McCain just spend the weekend at his spread in Arizona, relaxing??? Most of those that registered on these petitions, stated that if McCain didn't agree to this debate, they would NEVER support him if he did get the nomination! Hmmmm….Doesn't sound good for McCain, does it????

(I hope this blog gets through, because I have been blocked in the last several times of trying to get through to the Ticker.)
Mike Huckabee's main reason for getting involved in the fray of Republican running was mainly as the great Evangelical Hope's answer to their "Mormon Problem". Let's be perfectly clear on this. He fulfilled his job for his minions, in thwarting Mitt Romney's campaign in Iowa, and so on. His followers were so afraid of Mormon people being completely legitimized in America, by the prospects of having a Mormon President, that they went to these great lengths in stopping Mitt. Romney could have been arguably the greatest hope in turning around our now tailspinning economy, with enthusiasm and brainy organization skills to get results.
Now, we are stuck with a dull, boring and uninspiring collection of Presidential finalists. Whoever gets the Presidential nod now will inevitably drag us through a future Carteresque four-year doldrum, thanks to the significant number of anti-Mormon bigots.

Huckabee makes a great point. Reagan and McCain both did the same thing people are accusing Huckabee of now. HELLO? What's you people's problem? Let's have ourselves a real election. Give Mike a chance. He's the conservatives only choice now, and despite all odds, HE IS STILL IN THIS THING! Common Texas! Vote for Mike!

Huckabee you keep on keeping on I am a Obama voter but I respect what you are doing by giving TX a choice.

Huckabee is right - great article! The crowds here in TX have been large and enthusastic for Huckabee, and he uses hardly any cash as he continues to chug along. It's amazing how many young people he draws and how many of them are working on his campaign. As we see if McCain has any campaign funds to use between now and September and if he can keep from hacking off any more conservatives, I don't see the problem with Huckabee staying in the race and giving people a choice.

If Huckabee had no message, I would have suggested he drop out too. But it's clear his message is that of change. He supports the elimination of the IRS and the income tax. He has a 9 point plan to secure the border. He's the only candidate who supports the Human Life Amendment. This is the kind of leader we need who will work for the people and that's why he's still doing so well even though McCain was declared the presumptive nominee about a month ago. Congrats to Huck for getting this far and not giving up.

That's right. And what's the hurry in rushing Obama to a nomination? Don't let the media foreclose on Hillary Clinton. They had the foreclosure sign hung around her neck weeks ago. Texas and Ohio bring this to the convention floor!

You tell em Huck, some folks may vote for you yet the way this B.S is piling up.

I'm glad Mike Huckabee is continuing to run and represent a voice that supports faith and family.

Obama's MOMENTUM   March 2nd, 2008 4:45 pm ET

The Fair Tax is not fair. Huckabee is an idiot.
He is just like all the other RICH Republicans.
Well, he is not rich because he charges for his
"SPEECHES". I think that Huckabee is just
not believable and the rest of the world, except
for the religious right, must not be buying into
his phony repetitious speeches. Actually, Huckabee
scares me.
