Limbaugh wants the Democratic race to continue.
Limbaugh wants the Democratic race to continue.

(CNN) – As Hillary Clinton battles to keep her presidential bid alive, she may be getting help from an unlikely source: conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh.

Limbaugh has been actively urging his Texas listeners to cross over and vote for Clinton in that state's open primary Tuesday, arguing it helps the Republicans if the Democratic race remains unsettled for weeks to come.

"I want Hillary to stay in this…this is too good a soap opera," Limbaugh told fellow conservative talk-show host Laura Ingraham on Fox News Friday. He reiterated the comments on his Monday show and replayed the exchange with Ingram.

He also said Clinton is more willing than the Republican National Committee and John McCain's campaign to criticize Barack Obama.

"We need Barack Obama bloodied up politically. It's obvious that the Republicans are not going to do it, they don't have the stomach for it," Limbaugh continued. "As you probably know we're getting all kinds of memos from the RNC saying we're not going to be critical. Mark McKinnon of McCain's campaign said he'll quit if they get critical over Obama. This is the presidency of the United States we're talking about. I want our party to win I want the Democrats to lose.”

In January, liberal Daily Kos blogger Markos Moulitsas urged readers in Michigan to vote for Mitt Romney in the GOP primary for similar reasons. Romney went on to win Michigan, though exit polling showed Democrats who voted in that primary favored McCain.

On his Monday show, several listeners appeared dismayed that Limbaugh was urging them to support the New York senator.

"Wouldn't you love to cream Hillary though…why are you so afraid of her? Look at how ineptly she has campaigned against Obama," Limbaugh responded to one listener who said she wanted to see Clinton out of the race immediately.

"I'm asking people to cross over, and if they can stomach it and I know it's a difficult thing to do, vote for Clinton," he also told Ingraham Friday. "But it will sustain this soap opera, and it's something I think we need and it'll be fun, too."

Several recent polls suggest Clinton is statically tied with Obama in Texas, and the New York senator's campaign has characterized Tuesday's vote as a crucial test of strength.

The funny part is if Clinton is the nominee vs. McCain it's win/win for Rush heads. Those two are six in one hand half-dozen in the other.

Adam in Indy   March 3rd, 2008 4:54 pm ET

Not sure if that's a good thing or not….

Josh   March 3rd, 2008 4:54 pm ET

Sorry Rush…democrats aren't as ignorant as republicans. If you think saying that is gonna cause us democrats to go "Oh, he's a republican, he wantss us to vote for Hillary…let's vote for Obama and show him!!" you are SADLY mistaken. Yes, we will vote for Hillary…and she will "cream" McCain.

OBAMA 08 YES WE CAN!!!!!!!!!

Rush Limbaugh and Ann Coulter both support Hillary Clinton…what does this tell us about the woman?

If this campaign season does nothing else, I hope it forces the DNC to amend the rules for the primary season to prevent this kind of manipulation.

Tony   March 3rd, 2008 4:55 pm ET

Go GOP !!!
Senator McCain or Gov. Huckabee would to way better than both of the democrat clowns

I Like the way Limbaugh thinks, Socialist Hillary would be way easier to beat than Rookie-Lying Obama…

The Clintons are dispicable. It is interesting that many of her supporters call us Obama supporters blind followers (even though I have been involved with politics for many years), yet they live off every word she says and absolutely love the negative tone that Hillary has taken.

It is absolutely true that most of Hillary's hard core supporters would rather see McCain win the general election over Obama and it is disgusting.

While I am an Obama supporter, it is absolutely ridiculous these suggestions that this OUT OF TOUCH, nonsensical old conservative (who would love this country to return to pre-civilization days where slavery was "in-vogue") are making.

DEMOCATS, are we going to allow this old man to ridicule us like this?!?!

OBAMA AND HILLARY SUPPORTERS ALIKE NEED TO STAND UP AGAINST THIS!! THIS IS RIDICULOUS!!!

Dee from Texas   March 3rd, 2008 5:02 pm ET

I think that it is so disrespectful of CNN to print this DEMEANING OF OUR POLITICAL CULTURE. Something like this should not be printed. It is not JUSTICE FOR ALL. I am so outdone with CNN. They seem to be slipping even with Hilliary on CHARACTER AND INTEGRITY.

Mike   March 3rd, 2008 5:02 pm ET

CHICAGO - Jury selection began Monday in the federal fraud trial of businessman Antoin "Tony" Rezko, a former fundraiser for Sen. Barack Obama who is charged with buying power and influence by bombarding Illinois political leaders with campaign money.

The case is the biggest political corruption trial in Illinois since former Gov. George Ryan was convicted of racketeering in 2006 and sent to prison.

Politicians around the country are watching the trial because Rezko, a 52-year-old Chicago real estate developer, poured cash into Obama's campaigns when Obama was getting his political start.

Here is a story in the Chicago Tribune… All of you need to start looking at Obama and his past relationships before it is too late!!! This man has given some money to charity but has not given all of the money that he has received from other companies that Rezko is involved in??? Honesty??? Character???

you need to hold him accountable for his actions!!!

EveryoneForObama   March 3rd, 2008 5:02 pm ET

Hahaha, this is interesting.

And it is for the same reason why ALL democrats should vote for Barack Obama. People, please do not let the democratic party fail AGAIN. I hear democrats that say "if Hillary is not the nominee, I will vote Mccain". It just doesn't make sense to me. Looks like it more for the person than for the party and the party's values and ideas.

We need a lot of growing up to do. My vote, any day, is for Senator Obama.

andrew jones   March 3rd, 2008 5:02 pm ET

Rush Limbaugh can official cross-over to the Billary Clinton campaign; they both represent the politics of the OLD: SMEAR TACTICS AND KITCHEN SINK POLITICS!

A vote for Billary is a vote for Rush Limbaugh and dirty politics!

VOTE FOR CHANGE!

VOTE OBAMA!!!

Larry, GA   March 3rd, 2008 5:02 pm ET

Okay, now…I'm really concerned! Although, Sen. Clinton is holding up the process for a Sen. Obama nommination, I wonder what is the true agenda for Rush. Could he want Obama to get the Democratic nommination? And why?

Evin   March 3rd, 2008 5:02 pm ET

Hopefully the kind of people who still pay heed to Limbaugh are those who are wheelchair-bound or unable to locate a voting station.

Larry Buchas, New Britain, CT   March 3rd, 2008 5:02 pm ET

That's the perfect reason to vote for Barack.

Limbaugh is counting on the Clintons to represent the Democratic Party. He sees it as the only possible way Republicans can reclaim the White House.

Let's reject these rats, once and for all!

Jay fox   March 3rd, 2008 5:02 pm ET

Like we're going to listen to Rush Limbaugh? Now that's funny!

Ron   March 3rd, 2008 5:03 pm ET

Rush is EXTREMELY shrewed and will always try to take advantage of a perceived weakness. He will NEVER admit it, but he is just chomping at the bit for Hillary to win. He sees her as a much easier target for the General Election. Lets face it in the 20 year history there is a ton of negative crap.

smart grrl in ls mo   March 3rd, 2008 5:03 pm ET

hey all you Obama supporters… get ready for tomorrow… when Hillary wins, you can blame it all on Rush

Diamond   March 3rd, 2008 5:03 pm ET

Obama was leading by a margin of 3 to 1 among Republicans voting in the Democratic primary in Texas. In just one day, Hillary is leading by 46 to 45 among Republicans.

This is just proof that the longer this race continues, the more it will be jeopardized by Republicans who will be idle since they already have a nominee.

Apart from the fact that Republicans want Clinton, Democrats will just rip each other apart and destroy every chance of theirs in November. Clinton will undoubtedly continue her attacks and Obama will be forced to respond. If Clinton wins tomorrow, Obama will also throw her the chicken sink in Pennsylvania … and that's it. Democrats are done!

Mike Allen   March 3rd, 2008 5:03 pm ET

Rush is right for once. I know many Republicans who are ready to cross party lines and vote Obama if he gets the nomination. No Republican would vote Hillary in the general election. Hillary is the Republicans best hope for a Republican victory.

allan tanny   March 3rd, 2008 5:03 pm ET

I would expect nothing less from a man who excoriated drug addicts while he was one himself. Quick to make accusations but quicker to forgive himself. His version of morality and democracy make me sick.

Jasmine - AZ   March 3rd, 2008 5:03 pm ET

This is the reason Obama needs to win…Look at this Hillary Supporters!!! Don't you see the republicans are scared of Obama..

On the other hand they know they can beat Clinton…She has alot of dirt that hasn't come out yet…Believe me McCain will bring it out…Don't fall for it…The republicans can't beat Obama…

McCain is the worst solution for our country…If Hillary wins McCain wins easily…

March Surprise   March 3rd, 2008 5:03 pm ET

I can't find the words to register my level of utter disgust.

Phil, KC, MO   March 3rd, 2008 5:04 pm ET

It would seem that Hillary is the Democrat the Republicans most want to run against. Is it because they don't know how to go after Obama or because they feel they have more ammunition against Clinton (including a higher unfavorable rating)?
It also points out how concerned the Republicans are about their chances in November. If they need the Democrats to beat up each other, it means they don't think they can win in November.

The Truth   March 3rd, 2008 5:04 pm ET

Hillary is willing to destroy the Democratic party and split the entire nation in her pursuit of power. If she really cared about this nation, she would withdraw from this race.

Ed   March 3rd, 2008 5:04 pm ET

can you name a human being more pathetic than Rush Limbaugh?

Kay   March 3rd, 2008 5:04 pm ET

Democrats! What else do YOU need to know????? The Republicans are afraid of Obama - they WANT Hillary.

Keith, GA   March 3rd, 2008 5:04 pm ET

I was a Romney supporter. I will not support McCain because I cannot trust him. All I can hope for is Hillary some how wins and its only a 4 year term and the republicans can start to rebuild in the 2010 midterm elections.

Mark   March 3rd, 2008 5:05 pm ET

How sad. Truly shows how off-course the Republicans are at this time.

Where was Rush to repeat the call for transparency by the Clintons to release their tax records, White House papers, and come clean with the American people.

Shame on you.

Liga M.   March 3rd, 2008 5:05 pm ET

Hillary and supporters,
I hope you are listening now. You are doing the Republicans a huge favor and destroying the Democrats. Once again, Democrats will find a way to LOSE in November. Thanks to the self-absorbed, self-serving Clintons.

Fundamental Question   March 3rd, 2008 5:05 pm ET

"Change" Question: What has Obama done while in Senate to bring the Democrats and Republicans together.

California Independent   March 3rd, 2008 5:06 pm ET

I think it's fun too. Why hasn't CNN mentioned Obama is actually running ads on Limbaugh. I think that's funny too.

Limbaugh is a joke! Why do people even listen to him?

rk   March 3rd, 2008 5:06 pm ET

He should be kicked off the radio. He is a crazy man.

Law Student   March 3rd, 2008 5:06 pm ET

This is the type of unethical behavior one would expect from Rush Limbaugh. Sabotaging the vote of the American people goes against everything this country stands for, and he should be ashamed of himself. By making such outrageous suggestions, Limbaugh is as "un-American" as he claims so many others to be.

Diana, Houston, TX   March 3rd, 2008 5:06 pm ET

I live in Texas and I want Hillary to win because I think she is the best candidate for the job. This article and it's reasoning are nauseating on many levels. I don't listen to Rush Limbaugh for a reason. I would appreciate it if CNN would keep his comments on the radio waves between he and his cronies instead of airing it on a site I thought would be impartial to all.

Lioness, Washington DC   March 3rd, 2008 5:06 pm ET

Keep dreaming, Rush. I know you want Hillary to run against McCain so that she will lose, because you fear that an Obama candidacy would put a democrat in the White House, but since you are always WRONG in what you say, most people will ignore you.

This, coming from a man who called our soldiers cowards.

Wake up, "Rush is Right" crowd. The man is dead off in everything he says.

Hillary Clinton always say Barack Obama has not seen nothing yet, wait for the Republicans. Someone tell her to stop using what she thinks Republicans will do, to destroy the party. I would never, ever, ever, ever vote for a Clinton. Even if Chelsea contest for school borad, i'll still vote against her. They have no shame in that family, they think it is about winning at all cost. She has done more dirt to this party than republicans would ever do. Bill gave the congress and Presidency away to the Republicans, where will this destruction end?

Wait a second…I thought there was supposed to be a Republican conspiracy to get Obama the Democratic nomination. What is this? People should vote for the candidate they support. If you are a Democrat, but you think McCain would be the best President, then vote for him. If you are a Republican, but you like Obama's message, then vote for him.

jen   March 3rd, 2008 5:07 pm ET

You are pathetic CNN and so is your bias towards Barack Obama. We all know what this type of article is meant to conjure up, a psychological attempt to pander to tell Democrats to vote for Obama because that is what Limbaugh does not. This is coming from an Obama supporter. CNN, you make me vomit. We'll see if you have the galls to post this.

OhioNate   March 3rd, 2008 5:07 pm ET

Sean, Santa Barbara, CA   March 3rd, 2008 5:07 pm ET

Mike   March 3rd, 2008 5:08 pm ET

It is very obvious that Rush is a very, very ,very ignorant, scared Republican. He thinks that if Hilary wins then it will make it easier for McCain. Yeah right!!! Hey dude, I don't know what planet you are living on but no matter which one of the Democratic canidates that get the nomination, I can almost garuntee that there will not be another Republican president in office for, if not the next 8 years, for ever. Sorry but Mr. George (I have down syndrome) Bush messed it up for you guys

Pete Murnane   March 3rd, 2008 5:08 pm ET

Good old wrong-way Rush! I wouldn't vote for someone who isn't a veteran, who hasn't put his or her life on the line for the USA. McCain's the only one in this bunch of hopefuls that meets my minimum criteria. And by the way Rush, in what branch of the service did you serve, or are you just another wannabe?

JMV, New York   March 3rd, 2008 5:08 pm ET

This is the same thing that's been happening since the campaign started. There was a conservative blogger in Wisconsin who held a poll to decide which candidate all of his conservative readers should vote for. They voted overwhelmingly to support Hillary Clinton with the belief, true or not, that she'll be the candidate they need to unite the republican parties in ways that McCain can't.

Jeff, Huntington Beach, CA   March 3rd, 2008 5:08 pm ET

It would be a much nicer world if Limbaugh and his kind would go away. He can take Bin Laden, Chavez, Putin, and the rest of the dangerous nut cases who now exist with him. Extremism in any form is detrimental to the human race.

Adam, Los Angeles   March 3rd, 2008 5:08 pm ET

If this isn't reason enough for Hillary to withdraw admirably, I don't know what is!

Mike33   March 3rd, 2008 5:08 pm ET

If Rush's influence with primary voting Republicans is so strong, How come Mitt Romney is only watching this process like most of the rest of us. Like the GOP has needed help with it's dirty work? He needs to stick to making us laugh with his "God given" talent of stretching the so-called truth and blaming non-conservatives for 'destroying America'.

This, to me, is what is so horribly wrong with our country's partizan political system… "This is the presidency of the United States we're talking about. I want our party to win I want the Democrats to lose.”
Shouldn't this election be about the American people winning- as a whole? Limbaugh certainly has the right to say whatever he wants, but I hate that so many people view elections as popularity contests rather than a chance to strengthen and unify our country.

Lisa   March 3rd, 2008 5:09 pm ET

As a democrat, I was planning on voting for Hillary tomorrow in Texas. But after hearing these Republicans urging everyone to vote for her, their message is clear: they are SCARED of Obama because they know they can't beat him. I'm going to vote for the person that can beat the Republicans in November tomorrow.

I have been listening to this idiot stump for Clinton for weeks - even contemplating holding fundraisers for her in an effort to stop Obama! When Republicans vote for Obama, it is because they like him and support him. When they vote for Hillary, it is so they can win in the general.
God I hope Obama takes all four tomorrow and I can finally sleep peacefully. This is a battle, good vs. evil, and the fate of the entire world rests upon it.
All my friends in Ohio and Texas, Please go vote Obama tomorrow and stop the Republicans from continuing the mockery they have made of our system.

She's more a polarizing figure that GW Bush. Half of the country can't stand the mention of her name.

Why else would this fat blow hard want her to win??

Daryl, Des Moines Iowa   March 3rd, 2008 5:10 pm ET

EL NNINO   March 3rd, 2008 5:11 pm ET

No one energises the Republican base, whether willfully or not, like Senator Clinton. Unfortunately for her, she would never be able to beat John McCain in a general election.

Gmoney   March 3rd, 2008 5:11 pm ET

REALLY ask yourself: Why would Ann Coulter and Rush Limbaugh support Hillary in the primary?

If your answer is anything other than "to weaken the Democratic party," you need to ask yourself the question again.

Robert   March 3rd, 2008 5:11 pm ET

For anyone who doesn't believe that the Republicans want to face Hillary rather than Barack….here's further proof. Why would we want to run a candidate, no matter how "experienced", knowing that she's going to lose the general election?

As Lou Dobbs would say, "What in the world are we Democrats thinking?!!" Limbaugh's appeal for Republicans to cross-over and vote for Hillary decides it for me—-> GO Obama '08!!!

Sammy Ahrabi   March 3rd, 2008 5:11 pm ET

Limbaugh is a true conservative. Say anything and do anything just to have your party win. The fate of our country doesn't matter to him; the pride of corrupt politics does. That's a sad thing to admit about him, but it seems many conservative radio and talk-show hosts are failing to recognize the dire consequences their political views will have on our country in the coming years.

John P   March 3rd, 2008 5:11 pm ET

So Limbaugh wants Republicans to cross over and vote for Hillary because it will be fun and to continue the soap opera. Is this the criteria for voting in a primary. In my opinion Limbaugh just gets weirder & weirder. He isn't backing Huckabee or McCain but Hillary. Has Limbaugh become a Democrat? Limbaugh has admitted to using oxycotin in the past, is it possible he has relapsed.

While I disagree with McCain on many issues, at lease he is a man of honour like Obama. Vote Obama if you are a Democrat, McCain if you are a Republican and let's have an election between people of honour, values & morals!

Crusty the CLown   March 3rd, 2008 5:11 pm ET

Noel Bynum, Winston Salem, NC   March 3rd, 2008 5:11 pm ET

Rush Limbuagh is the lowest of all life forms. I think Hillary should stay in the race as long as she deems necessary, she has every right to present her case to voter. I look forward to either her or Obama smashing Mccain and giving these antiquated, greedy, ignorant, extremist talk show radio host, who have been trying to brainwash people with their illogical cries for "family values" claiming they support hard work while jobs fly over sees we are almost 3 trillion dollars in debt, 47 millions americans don't have health care as they continue to defend this broken republican government for the past decades, their just rewards. Vote Hillary or Obama. And p.s. I am an independent in general, and support some local republicans, but the republican party is broken. American will leave the Republican party because they have been leaving too many Americans out for too long!

Rush is right. Clinton is doing the repubs work for them by destroying Obama, a fellow democrat. She will implode the Democrat party and clear the way for McCain to win the White House. The Dems and Obama supporters will never forgive her. This will be the Clinton legacy. Disgrace. All elections are about getting the middle of road independent voters and Clinton will never get them.

No its not that its a soap opera its that the REPUBLICANS have gotten afraid of Obama. They thought that McCain could beat him but all of a sudden he has gotten so big that they have gotten afraid. You know what the bible says "REAP WHAT YOU SOW" the republicans have been pushing to vote for Obama since McCain had the nomination, but now they are reaping. They tried to cheat the system but it has come back to bite them.

Keith Hunter   March 3rd, 2008 5:14 pm ET

I used to tend to believe the Clintons when the Republicans were attacking them during Bill Clinton's Presidency when they claimed they were being targeted by dirty politics. Other than the dubious play on words Clinton did about the definition of "sex" I thought he was a good President.

However, after the way the Clinton campaign has conducted itselt against Obama I find it impossible to believe that the animosity directed towards them by the Republicans was merely politically motivated. The constant mindset of an impending "fight" that Hillary intends to wage is so counter productive to creating an atomosphere where resolutions to issues can be accomplished by bi-partisan problem solving is troubling.

Also troubling is that she is being so divisive and damaging to others within even her own party indicates to me that the Clintons diviseness in the 90's did not occur in a vacuum as they once would have had people believe.

Rush may be right — as much as I hate to admit it.

pete ft worth tx   March 3rd, 2008 5:14 pm ET

While I get his point, the fact is NONE of the candidates, or Limbaugh for that matter, are addressing the real issues. We are losing our entire economic lives to foreign countries. We're literally pumping billions into the sands of the Middle East for their oil. We were pouring billions into Mexico by way of cash transfers from the illegals working here, and finally we're increasing our national debt beyond belief and owing it to the Saudis and Chinese. When will this come home to roost? At the speed things are going, the next president will NOT have a fun time. Nor will any of us citizens if we have to depend on the three goofs running now. WAKE UP AMERICA.

Sylvester   March 3rd, 2008 5:14 pm ET

Rush Limbaugh is a always a joke…pretty much a comedian people listen to/watch and laugh but never taken seriously. Texans are smart. They will vote for the best candidate. That candidate is clearly Senator Obama. Nobody likes dynasties. We had Bush, Clinton, Bush but it is now about time to break the cycle. Texans know it so they will deliver for Sen. Obama.

Helga, St. Louis, MO   March 3rd, 2008 5:14 pm ET

I attended Southeast Missouri State College back in the 60's when Rushie boy did. He is as big a loser today as he was back then. He wasn't relevant then, he isn't relevant now. Just an angry loser who happens to have a lot of losers that listen to him. If it weren't for the FUD principle (Fear Uncertainty and Doubt) he would have nothing to talk about.

Jayson   March 3rd, 2008 5:15 pm ET

It only makes sense for any Republican in a state that allows voters to vote either side since McCain will be the Republican nominee. What better way to possibly damage or destroy the Democratic party then to have a knock down drag out fight at the Democratic Convention since civility will go right out the window if there is no clear winner that meets the standards. The chaos will only be heightened by the fact that Bill has hinted that the idea that Obama would lose because of his skin color and also because of other idiotic comments in regards to Bill.

Democrats can flame away and scream what an idiot Limbaugh is but there is no way to deny the fact that any chance to cause more chaos in the Democratic party is a good idea. It is also not against the rules so no need to whine about how un-ethical and under handed the idea is either.

I have mentioned this several times in the last week, Rush Limbaugh has been advocating this position for 2 weeks now. The longer this thing drags on the better it is for the republican party. The realization is that Hillary Clinton will pursue the type of attacks against Obama that no republican including Karl Rove would dare try.

Where is Limbaugh's patriotism?

How does this put us on any higher level than the elections in Russia?

Put this little feather in your cap, Hillary voters. Anyone who actually believes she has a chance to get the independent vote in November to win is dreaming. The only way she can win the Dem Primary is to blow up the party by using uncontested votes and superdelegates. Republicans know who is the Democrat to fear, and it's not Hillary Clinton.

In 2000, I voted a lonely vote for John McCain, with the primaries all but decided for George W. Bush. I had even switched my registration to do so. I thought either Gore or Bradley would make a good President, but McCain could push through campaign finance reform.

I would never put party ahead of country by working to nominate a weaker candidate. Our country can't afford the worst of either party, which is what we got in 2000.

This year, I voted proudly for Barack Obama, because he is the only one who talks about winning the war in Afghanistan, and he is the only one who is refusing PAC and lobbyist donations. He is also the one who sponsored ethics legislation for the first time in a generation.

Vote for the best, not the worst. Your country needs it.

Peter Canada Obama 08   March 3rd, 2008 5:17 pm ET

Oh.. I just want to comment on the first sticker on Hillary's new ad.
Eventhough Hillary ad portray Obama in a negative ways of he not chairing NATO subcommitee, the respondant are against her ad. 60% of the respondance rejected her tactice and called her too desperate.

What can she do at this moment to get back her reputation.? She has lost her credibility since she went negative on her rival our next President of the United State Of America Barack Obama.

I think she should step aside before tomorrow election and declare her support for Obama. That will clear the negativity people see on her.
Remember, close to call is not enough for her to continue her campaign. She has to win big or dropped out of the race with respect.

Lindsay   March 3rd, 2008 5:17 pm ET

This is so far beyond disturbing… I am disgusted. Let's screw with the democratic process so it becomes distored beyond recognition. It's not a game. It's not a joke. All this drama we're swimming through is supposed to bring about the eventual presidential nominees. Instead we're playing childish games?

I'm twenty-four years old. This is the first presidential election I've really taken part in and for the first time in my life I've found a politician (I loathe that word) that I can believe in. (I'm not going to name names because I don't want to start another Obama vs. Hillary vs. McCain feud in these comments… ;) Spiteful tactics like this are the reason I've never wanted to participate before and will make me consider abstaining in the future.

Mr. Limbaugh, your little game is not cute or clever. It only serves one purpose: messing up the election process in a country that may be beyond saving. Open your eyes.

Obama Supporter   March 3rd, 2008 5:17 pm ET

This is extremely sad. As much as Mr. Limbaugh speaks negatively about Hillary Clinton, it is now evident that he wants her to win the nomination because it is easier for McCain to win against her in November then for McCain to beat Obama…..that's a fact.

WML   March 3rd, 2008 5:22 pm ET

I think the states where Repubs and Independents are allowed to vote in the Democratic primary need to reexamine their thinking. I live in Texas and that's what is happening here. My die-hard, straight ballot Republican brother-in-law is voting for Hillary. Not to carry out the drama but because he sees Obama for what he is–a dreamer without much to stand on. Hey, I was against the Iraq war but, like Obama, my vote or thoughts didn't count.

I hope Republicans and Independents do vote for Hillary. Not to keep the drama, because of the two Democrats, she truly is the better candidate. I'm a Democrat and if Obama gets the nomination, I will either write in Hillary or vote for McCain. It goes both ways. Obama is winning mostly because of the crossover Repubs and Indies can do, NOT from the Democratic base. Thanks to the media and other sources.

Shame on the Repubs for not going after Obama–he deserves it since there are many skeletons in his closet. It won't be racial, simply the rules of the game. Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton haven't come to his side with the "negative" comments made by Hillary. Stop being afraid. The man needs to be looked at seriously and not superficially for the feel-good Oprah-style guy that he is.

The really, really good part is that if you cross over and vote for Hilllary in the Texas Democratic primary, then you can't vote at all in the Republican primary. And, according to the Repulicans, that's where the local elections really take place!

Julia   March 3rd, 2008 5:23 pm ET

Not sure why some of you folks believe that when Senator Clinton wins the nomination, she wouldn't win against McCain. She's better known and she has a better base. Democrats are better seated to win this election and they would come out and vote for her. That said, the ones who wouldn't come out and vote who are here whining about Clinton not conceding and letting this man have his way, it is those who would attempt to lose the race for Democrats as they would follow Obama's lead and stay home on election day. He's a sore loser and he doesn't like competition. Well, he has it, and it looks as though Senator Clinton is going to wait for his smoke screen to clear. Good for her.

It is so sad to know that when the democrats are on the verge of winning the White house and move the country forward, the Clinton's ego is going to finally be the thing that is going to bring all that down.

My humble message to reads as follows,:

"Mr. and Mrs. Clinton the need to bring about a change in America is much much more important than your ego. Consider this, if you keep at destroying this move forward of the country, next year at this time we will be talking about how the Clintons' ego blew off the big win for ordinary American people. "

Sad, Sad, Sad, …even when Limbaugh sees it as is and they fail to see it.

I would not doubt if she called Rush and asked him to please plead with the people of Texas to give her a shot. We look so bad in the eyes of other countries..here we are in the middle of this political process and we have people asking others to vote and extend the process just for fun. But then we want other countries to have voting rights for the people because they deserve it., meanwhile, we have made it a joke.

It sickens me to read this article and see a prominent spokesperson for the Republican party refer to aspects of the Presidential election as a soap opera. It is borderline unconscionable to think that this is what our political discourse has devolved to in contemporary society. Admittedly, I am no fan of the Republican party or conservatism, but I have respect for thinkers like George Will who actually have something informed to say. Others, like Limbaugh and Ann Coulter are merely reflections of the decay of the Republican party in light of the ideological shambles that the Bush administration left it in.

Maryann - Orlando, FL   March 3rd, 2008 5:24 pm ET

Gee who would have thought Rush Limbaugh and Ann Coulter would be the ones to reach across party lines and unite America!

Ann Kuminns   March 3rd, 2008 5:24 pm ET

It's great that Limbaugh is now rooting for Hillary. The republicans know that she will be an easy target for them in November. Since when have you seen the republicans begging you to vote for a democrat?? It won't be so funny to democratic supporters in TX, OH and the rest of the country when Hillary wins the nomination only to be soundly defeated by McCain.

Sorry Rush, but I am a Republican that voted for Obama because I am sick of the way Republicans have run this country into the ground. I will not vote for Hillary or McCain in the general election. I think that there are a lot more of us then you can imagine that feel this very same way. A vote for Hillary or McCain is the same vote. They are two of a kind that will follow Bush's politics of the past.

This is distrubing and unsettling that a media outlet is trying to influence the race.
One, it says there is no confidence in Sen. John McCain,
Two, it is encouraging hostility toward Sen. Obama.
Both of then are outstanding candidates that need to win on their own iniative without the media so blantanly interjecting through radio talk shows. It's one thing to allow the listener to speak, it's another to have a mad man's warped view of the world interjected. Shame on you!
This even about Hillary anymore..it's about insanity in the election. shame.

Martin   March 3rd, 2008 5:26 pm ET

If Hillary were to become the nominee of her party, 47% of the country would vote against her, even if the Republicans nominate a monkey.
If they nominate a monkey which can speak, 49% will vote against her …

Bottom line, Hillary has no chance in getting elected, but she has a very high chance of ruining the Dems chances of taking the presidency by bruising Obama.

Hillary, it is time to bow out gracefully.

Thanks,

Rush just wants the glitter and glow to wear off of Obama before the

Republicans take him on head to head. Face it, expecting Kerry,

Kennedy and Durbin to defend Obama against the GOP is a poor

defense. How about changing those Obama senators out of their

long held senate seats? Oops, end of change

Chris   March 3rd, 2008 5:27 pm ET

Ugh. I'm a Republican crossing over in Ohio for the primary, but for Obama — if he wins I can be pretty satisfied with either party's candidate for a change.

Republicans who only care about winning know that Obama is much more electable and tough to beat than Clinton. I think conservatives were counting on the "I hate Hillary" — 49% of the country — to help win the election.

If you want a Democrat in the White House, vote Obama.

Its funny that rush is speaking up. You have three moderates running. One way or the other Bush is going to leave office. One way or the other we will have a president who wants both parties to work together to actually accomplish something. It has to eat him up. No one is really going that negative. The "mudslinging" is based on who would make a good president. Not raw personal attacks. I'm supporting Obama but honestly I'm fine with any of them. Its atleast a step up from having a conservative in office.

CA boomer for CHANGE   March 3rd, 2008 5:28 pm ET

Mike   March 3rd, 2008 5:28 pm ET

Note that this is the FIRST time Republicans have been urged to vote for Clinton. Prior to this, they were being strongly urged to vote for Obama in early voting for March 4.

RKE, Suisun City, CA   March 3rd, 2008 5:28 pm ET

And on top of this, republican Governor Crist of Florida favors a new Democratic primary in his state. The Republicans are hoping for a brokered convention. The Democratic party has failed to get behind either Barack Obama or Hillary Clinton. I'm a Democratic. And as much as I want to see a democratic president in the White House, I'm afraid that we will get another four years of Bush-league policies from John McCain. The Democratic party is being very indecisive, and fails yet again to see the big picture. When will we ever learn.

Juan   March 3rd, 2008 5:28 pm ET

There's no "soap opera"- and this isn't about making the republicans look good while the democrats continue in-fighting. This is about one thing and one thing only: Rush wants Hillary to win the nomination because he knows McCain has a much, much better chance of beating her in the general election- a conclusion that every poll and educted mind seems to agree on.

This is why OBAMA will win. HE is master at deflecting people like Rush Limbaugh, and being done with it. Hillary will only feed the animal, and
keep confusion going. She even has the democrats fighting among themselves. They know that they are no match for Senator Obama.

Obama 08.

Limbaugh wants a Republican in 08 because he knows that his supply of narcotics coming out of Afghanistan will not be interrupted. It's a strange day in America when a junkie is calling the plays for the conservative republicans. They all want Hillary because they know they can't beat Obama…

Will Clinton "reject or denounce" the support of Mr. Ditto-head himself?

Dawn   March 3rd, 2008 5:29 pm ET

Attention folks from Ohio, Texas, Rhode Island and Vermont. This is exactly the problem……..if you want Hillary to win, but like Obama too, please make the only intelligent choice. Hillary will get beat by McCain. All experts agree that Obama is the democratic candidate that can beat McCain, so wouldn't it make sense to throw our support behind Obama. Let's not allow another republican become president. This is far too dangerous. Please, vote Obama!

Please stop mocking our political system and grow up.

Learn a higher form of communication or are you trying to be some freaky form of shock jock.

People decide to be Republican bc they are conservative (in more ways than just voting). Please be respectful of that and don't claim to represent us. I think it's good you don't affiliate yourself with John McCain.

Uncle Sam   March 3rd, 2008 5:29 pm ET

Hillary supporters PLEASE take note!!!

HILLARY CLINTON IS LOSING THE RACE FOR THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY.

joseph   March 3rd, 2008 5:30 pm ET

Americans are too big for this kind of stupid tricks. The republicans knows that it's only OBAMA that can take back the white house from them and they're scared about that so that is why they're urging people to vote for Hillary cos they know she's no match to them.Sorry,OBAMA is the man. GOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OBAMA.

peter   March 3rd, 2008 5:30 pm ET

Rush says "vote for Clinton….let us continue the soap opera….this will be fun".

Fun.

The king of the talkshow hacks shows why most commercial-radio talk radio hosts are to politics what the WWF is to real sports.

It is all, 100% based on getting the most attention to themselves and their shows for ratings and press.

This is the presidency, for God's sake. And Rush, Hannity, Mark Levin and all the other boorish radio hacks are just interested in the best scenario for their radio programs, not what's best for the country.

These rodeo clowns are disgraceful.

joli   March 3rd, 2008 5:30 pm ET

Aw I think Rush is feeling a bit Jan Brady-ish… The RNC knows they dont have to throw low blows at Obama… as there is so much to attack in the way of OBama's legislative history not to mention corruption.

McCain can win this clean against Obama. Moderate conservative are taking back the party from the radicals. Thats the difference between McCain and Bush… get used to it Rush… you are so Circa 2000 & 2004
