(CNN) – Barack Obama is headed for an easy victory in Vermont, fueled by overwhelming victories among voting blocs that have solidly aligned with Hillary Clinton in other states.

Though women voters and seniors are the backbone of Clinton's support, in Vermont more than two-thirds of women, and roughly 60 percent of voters age 65 and higher, went for Obama.

One of the key reasons this groups went for Obama? The Iraq war. While the issue has fallen in importance among voters in several other states, Vermont voters ranked it nearly as important as the economy, and those who said it was the number one issue went for Obama over Clinton by nearly 3 to 1.

Obama often touts the fact he was initially opposed to the Iraq war while Clinton voted to authorize it. He has consistently beaten Clinton among voters concerned about Iraq — and in Vermont, this gap clearly proved decisive.

It's really happening. The worst of the worst is winning out over all.
CNN projects Hillary the winner in OHIO. That must make all those folks whose vote has not been counted feel really important. I wish there was a law to stop that. No projections by media. Report the final vote and that is all. No Delegates and No Super Delegates being able to determine who is president rather than the vote of the people.

Hill for President!   March 4th, 2008 10:06 pm ET

Obama: DROP OUT!!!

Stop your train of the purest, most disgraceful selfishness, and admit that you're just way too unqualified, egotistical, and presumptuous to run against a strong, unstoppable, beyond intelligent woman and a former 5-year POW in the Vietnam War. You are in no position to run, and your arrogant, self-righteous attitude is despicable!

This American Idol cult is disbanded. Move on over to let the big, qualified people handle the job!

Marcia   March 4th, 2008 10:01 pm ET

I am revolted by Clinton's negativity. I do not want someone like that in the White House. She is simply a continuation of what we have had. I WILL NOT vote for her and many many others feel the same. Should she get the nomination with her abominable tactics, the Republicans will keep the White House. As I am listening to McCain's speech right now, he is sounding better and better. Barak Obama is the only one who truly understands and cares about the American people. Mrs. Clinton cares only for herself.

Marge   March 4th, 2008 9:29 pm ET

Go Hillary! My 77 years of observing and judging tells me you will make a great president. I trust you. I admire your strength. I feel confident that you will make wise decisions.

DONALD   March 4th, 2008 8:59 pm ET

obama….strictly a shadow that mccain will walk through on the way to whitehouse. would be a sad day for our party.

issie   March 4th, 2008 8:57 pm ET

It is appalling that after all of the nasty attacks, the Clintons white house scandals of abuse of power, dirty deals, and lying, how can anyone vote for this woman. Hillary and Bill are power driven and will not do anything but tie up the congress and senate for four years fighting with the Republicans, auditing their tax returns as they did in the past, and not to mention how mysteriously people died in the past administration. That is frighten enough. Barack is not perfect, but at least he is willing to unite all parties to get issues taken care of in Washington. We need fresh eyes, and a new direction. With Hillary it will be politics as usually and not to mention all deals Bill is making behind her back that has to be paid back. This couple is too convoluted with corruption.

TREEHUGGERS   March 4th, 2008 8:56 pm ET

I guess Vermont loved the speech that Obama gave about the skies opening up and we will all be saved. Vermont you've made a big mistake. Hilary is your man.

VERMONT   March 4th, 2008 8:54 pm ET

I can't believe Vermont. I thought they had more sense. What's the message Vermont that you so much love about Obama? What is the message… If that idiot is given the democratic nomination I am voting for McCain.

Ken   March 4th, 2008 8:53 pm ET

Can anyone tell me what time it is?

I just read that Obama answered the phone at 12:00 noon

Going with military time, with 3 more states to go today, Obama will answer the phone at 15:00 hrs

Walter   March 4th, 2008 8:53 pm ET

Good for Vermont!! I read Barack Obama's book The Audacity of Hope, and I truly believe that he is the only agent of change. My daughter says that, "Vermont is smart state." They probably studied the issues and didn’t fall for all the negative spin of the media as well as of Senator Clinton. Come on!! A beer in Senator’s Clinton left hand in a blue collar state! Let’s get real! Read Obama’s book. He is a great man who understands all the issues. He is more practical. He is ahead of his time and could become the best president ever. Obama’s book is somewhat prophetic, original, honest, and refreshing. To all of you negative sour apples of the world, Shawn Hannity, Rush Limbaugh, and to some of you rude political pundits with your own negative agendas who are about to go on a long vacation soon after Obama sends the Clintons home, you need to curl up to a good book and get to know the man, Barack Obama.

CNN-THUMBS DOWN   March 4th, 2008 8:51 pm ET

I can't believe the horrible coverage that CNN is giving Hilary. I am tired of hearing there personal views without any details of how Obama is this train that can't be stopped? HILARY IS THE ONE WHO CAN"T BE STOPPED AND SHE'S GONNA WIN… .INCLUDING THE SUPER DELAGATES.

Jenny   March 4th, 2008 8:50 pm ET

GO BARACK!!! I HAVE MUCH RESPECT FOR PEOPLE IN VERMONT. THANK YOU FOR REPRESENTING OUR COUNTRY WELL!!! CNN, WHY DON'T YOU REPORT THAT BARACK HAS WON 12 STRAIGHT WINS??? DON'T BE AFRAID OF THE PATHETIC HILLARY.

cathy   March 4th, 2008 8:49 pm ET

Antonio Obama has been favored in Vermont since before New Hampshire. We in Vermont voted for him because we like his message. Do not denegrate the wonderful people of Vermont.

Matthew   March 4th, 2008 8:48 pm ET

CNN & Wolf Blitzer, You should all be ashamed of how poorly you've conducted yourself during the primary elections. Hilary Clinton is still fighting and trust me the people are listening. I don't know who has more rhetoric CNN or Obama. Hilary is the train that keeps going and she'll win the democratic nomination, with or without the SUPER DELAGATES.

Mark, NJ   March 4th, 2008 8:45 pm ET

Obama & CNN -VS- Hilary. And She'll still WIN. Keep going Hilary. You don't have to stop until ALL the delgates are counted. That includes the peoples vote and the SUPER DELAGATES. KEEP GOING PLEASE. CNN You've disappointed me to know end.

Vig   March 4th, 2008 8:44 pm ET

Because Vermont one dimensional

Brian   March 4th, 2008 8:39 pm ET

CNN is sooooo biased. No pretenses of just reporting the news on this site, CNN is intent on influencing this election by its coverage. Shame on you!

Michelle in Los Angeles   March 4th, 2008 8:38 pm ET

Shame on all the women that voted for Hillary simply because we experienced much success and when her husband was in office. Hillary is not Bill. Many woman would not do have the stuff that their husbands do. Shame on all the women that voted for a women just because she is woman. Step out the box people. The same ole, same ole, is not always the best. Evolution, growth.

Vote for the best candidate   March 4th, 2008 8:35 pm ET

Marie,

It is shameful that you would expect other women to vote for Hillary just because she is a woman. What an insult to all women!! Are you saying that Hillary has nothing to offer other than her gender.

If you are a true Democrat, you would respect other Democrats' choice to vote the way they choose. This is the premise of a democracy.

The state of affairs and this election is too important for me to waste my vote based on such a frivolous reason. I WILL NOT VOTE for a candidate BASED ON GENDER OR RACE.

By the way, I am a minority female voter for Obama because of his record and vision for this country.

Kevin   March 4th, 2008 8:34 pm ET

If Obama wins, we will have another Bush-like America. Down, down, down, down, down…. everything goes down from gas to milk. You don't get it? Its a sign of the" FALL OF THE AMERICAN EMPIRE!!!!"

Michelle in Los Angeles   March 4th, 2008 8:33 pm ET

It is truly hard to unite when the supporters of Obama, the winner of the last 12 or 13, see Hillary keep making excuses, and draging the race on. This is a skunk. We will unite when Hillary backs out as any respectable person would. Barack as the most votes/delegates, he took Minnesota from Hillary. Chances are he's taken Texas from Clinton. He won Vermont. California was yesterday, she has lost 12 since. Lets live in the Now people. Lets unite behind the winner today- Barack Obama!

Dave   March 4th, 2008 8:30 pm ET

As an independent, Vermont voters are smart. If the Dem's elect Obama I am leaning that way. If they elect Hilary I am certain to vote for McCain.

The Horse luver   March 4th, 2008 8:26 pm ET

I really think hillary deserves to win! I think obama needs to rethink his patriotism!!!!!

HILLARY CLINTON 08′ :D

Sid   March 4th, 2008 8:25 pm ET

There was over 2million early votes. When are they added to the count.

Michelle in Los Angeles   March 4th, 2008 8:24 pm ET

Yeah!, Obama momentum still going strong. Hilliarys camp is grasping at straws. First her camp and husband said she had to win Texas and Ohio, now they are trying to say as long as she wins Ohio she is strong. I am so tired of team Hillary changing their minds. What is her message tonight anyway? I am sure it is different from yesterday

Politics is the only game you can loose 11 in a row, oh 12(Vermont), and still consider yourself a winner. If she was on a job, she'd be fired for failure to accomplish the goals set fourth. This lady has failed running her campaign, had to loan herself money because she did not know she was low, fired 3 or 4 people, and had web page issues. After observing her poor leadership with her campaign, I am scared to have her as my President.,

L G   March 4th, 2008 8:22 pm ET

As an Australian castinga close eye on American politics i make the ofllowing observations based on our own recent federal elections:

1. having a plan means nothing if you have no idea how to get it done
2. slogans, speeches mean nothing - its the back room stuff that makes it happen
3. people are nowadays more accepting of change - i guess they think changing soemhting will make it better - but that isnt alwyas the case
4. talk is cheap - its how you walk the walk.
5. experience isnt just somehting you get ont he campaign trail, its also doingt he cut and thrust, observing the machinations at play etc

All up every vote counts - and god bless America that it makes the right decision.

Hillary should get the nomination, but in a strange way i dont think she will

Amy   March 4th, 2008 8:21 pm ET

Here in Texas, the polls have just closed. We are waiting to caucus. I'm an educator, woman, and my husband is union. We are both huge Obama fans. Hillary has too many "people" in her back pocket!
Go Obama!

Wow, this isn't sexist, right?

Right on Glen, I couldn't have said it better myself. It's good to see that not everyone got sucked into the "hope machine", which will only disappoint us in the end..

Frederick   March 4th, 2008 8:16 pm ET

The thought of Hope, and the close of the generation gap is greatful. I now know that if Clinton wins I will not vote in November.

JUDE A OZUGHEN   March 4th, 2008 8:15 pm ET

People are simply tired of Clinton"s machinations and surreptitious design, either by commission or omission to distort facts for selfish political reasons. Senator Barack Obama will wrap up this nomination at the end of the night. The American people have the astute judgement and political savvy to sieve facts from distortions.

Marie   March 4th, 2008 8:15 pm ET

Shame on all of you woman who did not vote for Hilliary - for the first time in history we have the opportunity to vote for an intelligent, articulate, dedicated, and experienced woman who would and could sucessfully lead our country. We may never have this opportunity again. On the other hand, I am sure you will have the opportunity to vote for a male presidential canidate again. Ladies, whether you know it or not, you will never be a member of the "boys club" so don't be fooled.

CZ   March 4th, 2008 8:10 pm ET

Are you guys kidding? *Insert state that HRC lost* doesn't really matter much, she didn't even try there. The campaign will just keep swift boating Senator Obama until a state that matters votes. Meanwhile, her supporters attack young people, black people, and the college educated. After all, they ARE the groups that typically get the Dems over the hump in the National, so alienating them will accomplish….I'm not sure. But keep doing it.

SO Ashamed   March 4th, 2008 8:09 pm ET

Reason why CNN called the race early   March 4th, 2008 8:08 pm ET

The reason why the race was called before the actual votes were counted is based on the exit poll.

The exit poll was conducted on a random sample of those exiting the polling place and is fairly representative of the voters. For there to be such an early call, the margin of victory for Obama, based on the demographics and answers to the exit poll, must have been significant (>15%) to overcome any random error or chance in the data.

Toby   March 4th, 2008 8:08 pm ET

Appears the Obama campaign has held off the best known politician and her consultants in states where he originally wasnt thought to have a chance. She's through now unless she cheats. OK Go HRC spin doctors.

I really marvel at comments from many Hillary supporters such as "Vermont doesnt matter" Everybody matters. Barack is running a campaign in every state his campaign doesnt discount certain states to try to only win big states.

Antonio   March 4th, 2008 8:08 pm ET

I think it's ridiculous that some of you love to bash Hillary who is a democrat candidate. I voted for Hillary but I still think Obama is a great choice as well, simply because he's the opposite of what we currently have in the White House. We shouldn't be separating ourselves based on who we voted for, we all need to unite and get a Democrat in the white house. Stop wasting your time with petty things and just be happy that we have two very good candidates.

And Obama won Vermont simply because of the moment he's had, not cause the people in Vermont are smarter than anyone else in the country. If Hillary won 11 in a row, she would have won Vermont. That's how it works.

Glen   March 4th, 2008 8:07 pm ET

I am Black and I am not voting for OBAMA….

This Guy is too liberal.

This Guy has no experience.

This Guy is a liar ( He told the Canadian Government that he is O.K with NAFTA ; behind close door he is saying NAFTA IS O.K and in public he is saying he will negoiate NAFTA )

HE IS A LIAR !!!! OBAMA IS A LIAR !!!

WAKE UP !! PEOPLE !!!

Nikole   March 4th, 2008 8:07 pm ET

What makes you think that states that HRC has won (CA for example) will not go to the Democratic nominee no matter who it is? How silly to think that the Republicans will sweep EVERY state she has won thus far!

care   March 4th, 2008 8:06 pm ET

I was quite moved by the comment made by Fanchiface - a black man who is not an American, who is proud of his race. Not only is Obama the most qualified in my opinion - as I agree with him on the issues - but he is such a wonderful symbol of unity. I know it's politically incorrect to say that, but I can't help but feel it. I believe the young people have a wisdom that we older folks may lack.

Stamford   March 4th, 2008 8:06 pm ET

Obama has yet to unite the party. The issue on Iraq to me is moot. Bush duped the entire Congress. What Obama done about it since then ! Nothing.

Cindy   March 4th, 2008 8:06 pm ET

Jeff   March 4th, 2008 8:06 pm ET

Vermont is the state which most remembers what made this union of states strong, and who value freedom, if not more, then at least more vocally, than any other state in the union. With Ron Paul out of the picture, Vermont knows Barack Obama is the candidate most likely to bring us back closer to our ideals.

Roxy   March 4th, 2008 8:06 pm ET

Sorry to burst the bubble of the poor little Obama supporters but if he is the nominee, MCCAIN will win the whitehouse no doubt. You don't believe me? Well, just wait and see what the GOP does with him comes November! There is no way he'll survive the GOP shredder. Did you see him rushing out the door when the media tried to question him about his true stance on free trade with Canada? That did not look very presidential to me. Why didn't he stay and took the bull by the horns? And to think that this is nothing compared to what he's going to have to go thru if he is the nominee with all the dirt I'm sure the GOP will dig up in the General election. This is when words like VETTED AND EXPERIENCED come to mind.

Let me remind you all this is not a superbowl! It's about real issues that affect our daily lives. People of TEXAS, RI, AND OHIO, PLEASE DO THE RIGHT THING FOR AMERICA AND VOTE FOR HILLARY!

Third Party   March 4th, 2008 8:03 pm ET

It's amazing how the respective supporters for Obama and Clinton are or have become so partisan that many have rejected objectivity outright. This will hurt the Democrats big time, whoever becomes its P Nominee.

Objectivity is itself subjective - that's why questions such as why a candidate wins a certain state, or whether the media is biased towards a candidate, etc will only be perceived as correct in the eyes of the beholder (or supporter) esply if he/she dare not even consider a contrarian view (as is evident in all the postings here). Look beyond the American media and look at what the int'l press/networks are picking up or covering, and you'd perhaps learn that the media is not so biased afterall. The media picks up on the worthwhile issues and the personalities, and sometimes they sensationalise (well some media senationalise more than report), examines some topics closely, etc - so are they biased? Of course - and not. It's SUBJECTIVE.

For HC, experience does count, but would it also mean she would have a higher tendency to override advice from her staffers, etc? For BO - without vision men perish - but is his inspiring personality sufficient?

Democrats better recognise the Presidency is one who waves the flag but yet LISTENS to his/her staffers, the people and their pains/wishes, so it doesn't necessarily mean a fresh Senator or an old legacy cannot do well. You'll get clobbered by the Republicans if you don't wake up. BTW, since WHEN has a President EVER kept ALL his campaign promises? Get real.

Vadi PVSS   March 4th, 2008 8:02 pm ET

Obama 08′
Good For America - Good For The World !
Remember: Never Negotiate With Fear and Never Fear to Negotiate
He will be the one who will make people all around the world love America once again!

Look at how he takes the 'drama' queen Hillary's punches without anger but with a slight 'hurt' in his reply. He does not want to make it easy for Maccain - but unfortunately Hillary's blinded by her greed for power! Talk is cheap people say … but isn't what Hillary and Maccain also plain 'talking'? Remember they voted for the war!

America needs a President who will have better judgement skills … not 'longevity' which Macain and Hillary translate as Experience. People of Vermount realise this - hence the victory … just hope the people in the the other states too vote correctly - For America and For The World
Once again - Obama 08!

cathy   March 4th, 2008 8:02 pm ET

Hi Guys Great coverage. Just 2 points.
1. Ben and Jerry's is in Waterbury not Stowe.
2. George W Bush DID visit Vermont as a candidate in the Republican primary–I met him at the Windjammer in Burlington VT while at an educational conference. I remember he asked what he could do in Wash if elected to help schools. I said stop unfunded mandates—we know how well be listened to that.

Melanie   March 4th, 2008 8:02 pm ET

To those who think Hillary Clinton has so much more experience than Obama, tell me how much more does she have? Honestly, she tried to reform Health Care and it failed. The insurance companies paid her to shut up, why when she is President it will be any different?
Tell me where is the experience? I'd rather have someone with less experience in the White House, then some fool corrupted by Washington lobbyists.

Pia   March 4th, 2008 8:01 pm ET

I wonder what spin Hillary will use this time for losing Vermont. She should say that Vermont doesn't count because the people there are too intelligent to vote for her. Lol!

Mark H   March 4th, 2008 8:01 pm ET

Come on guys! Your analysts are a joke. Making all these big statements about Hillary based on exit polls from one state when you have a candidate who has just run off 12 straight victories. All of a sudden she has this big momentum, she's the economy candidate . . . blah, blah, blah. She was ahead in that state just two plus weeks ago by over 20% points and he has essentially pulled even, yet you spin it look like she has pulled off some huge victory??? Ohio is made up overwhelmingly of her political base and she may barely pull out a close victory, yet you make all these bold statements. I swear the wind shifts less than your analysts! Where do you get these people, randomly off the street? Unfortunately your competitors are just as bad or worse so I guess I'm stuck with you. All I ask is to stop spinning for Clinton!

OMG!!! Now your calling Vermont "so liberal" trying to down play Obama's victory there! You pick out one wacky town with 3 thousand voters and paint the whole state . . . come on! I hate to use these words but be fair and balanced! I am a moderate republican so I will vote for McCain but it makes me laugh when I see all of you guys fall all over yourselves to say Hillary is back and has all this momentum when she'll be just as far back tomorrow in delegates as she was yesterday . . . end of story. It is entertaining though!!

Unfortunately for both USA & Canada it looks like Obama will be the next president. Thank the good Lord he will have Oprah on speed dial so that when that when one of those "calls in the middle of the night' arrive Obama will have someone (a woman) with experience to turn to for advice.

James   March 4th, 2008 7:58 pm ET

These remaining 2 big primaries today will come down to who gets the most votes from whatever specific group. You guys make up the groups involved. Most of these groups will split there votes between the two democratic candidates. But one group will overwhelmingly vote for one specific candidate. Which means Obama wins Texas! and maybe Ohio.

...   March 4th, 2008 7:58 pm ET

The president does not have the authority to declare war- that is congress' job. Although Clinton voted for the Iraq war on false precident, she still voted for it. She showed poor judgement and we must hold our politicians accountable for what they vote for, otherwise, what else do we have? As much as I respect Hillary, we need a change. And more importantly, we need to kick the republicans out of the country. We need a resounding victory, not a close call. I blieve that Obama is the only one who can draw the independants. Go Obama- we need a breath of fresh air.

I bet tomorrow after her big loss, she will be filing in court to get the votes in FL and Michigan I could bet anything to this,

OBAMA WON BECAUSE IT IS HIS TIME TO WIN.

Joe   March 4th, 2008 7:54 pm ET

OBAMA is a DIVIDER and not a UNITER!!

This man has divided the Democratic party!

Joe Lieberman (former Democrat - now Independent), supposedly the type that support Obama is supporting McCain.

His own party views him as the most liberal senator in the U.S. - how does that fit with him being a uniter again????

Exactly which conservative ideals, views, policies, bills does he support???? (media afraid to ask)

Josh   March 4th, 2008 7:54 pm ET

Obama, please bow out of this race gracefully while you still can! Go back to Illinois, Hawaii, Indonesia, Kenya or wherever you are from! This year is Hillary's time to shine, not yours, so butt out and let Hillary do her thing!!!

Geri   March 4th, 2008 7:54 pm ET

Why doesn't Obama admit that he COULDN'T vote on the Iraq war
because he wasn't in the Senate. All his buddies voted for it but Clinton is the one that he blames. He's sick and so are most of his supporters. If some of this dirt had come out before today rather than being swept under the carpet he wouldn't even be in the running.

Dianne Sanders   March 4th, 2008 7:53 pm ET

I hope that all of the US will wake up and smell the coffee. It is time for a woman to step into the role of leader and if you blow it. you will not have this chance for a long time to come. CNN i would like to say that amy your Republican analis was more than just rude but jusk rank, when ask by Larry King if any part of her would be happy if Hillary won.
What a sad sight to see a so call professional react with such behavior. I am so worried about the country that I left. Things are going to get very bad and as much as we love our young people, they
do not know what hardship and struggle is. The me generation, it is always the folder ones that the young ones run to when things get bad.. Remember Obomba its very lonely at 3:00 and the phone rings.
God Bless America, we are going to need it, I do not think he's up to the job.

emmanuella   March 4th, 2008 7:53 pm ET

Obama won because people are tired of the kind of politics that tear themselves apart.i understand hillary but she gat to come out with the right tatics…if u are not a good speaker how would you convince people to vote for you.yes he gives speeches we agree but it one that motivates Americans to open a new chapter in the way politics is done in washington. He is indeed an agent of change and we look forward to he clinching the democratic nomination nd if hillary does not win Texas and Ohio she made mouth about she should plz hang up her bowl as she would not be the next democratic norminee.

Dave in Florida   March 4th, 2008 7:53 pm ET

Thank you Vermont!!!

We want real change, Obama will bring that. The same old politics with the same old status quo in Washington. The baggae that Bilary will bring back to the white house would be the same scandals that beset us in the 90's.

Obama in 08!!!!

YES WE CAN!!!

Drive The Nation   March 4th, 2008 7:52 pm ET

Obama 2008!

JJ: Who cares about Vermont? In all fairness, Vermont is a State that Hillary SHOULD have won. Her influence in the Northeast SHOULD have resonated- but sadly, it didn't really leave New York and New Jersey. If you don't care about Vermont, you don't care about the other 25 States Barack won. It's funny how the Hillary bandwagon keeps justifying her, loss after loss.

steve: Lou Dobbs is one of those journalist/pundits that will criticize ANYONE in politics. His message is based around how Washington has detached itself from the American people, which is true in a lot of ways. Although, I feel that he's overly critical of ANYONE in Washington, even if their policies and agenda is for the American people. I think he's anti-Obama because of Obama's stance on immigration. Lou Dobbs like to praise Sheriffs in the few counties and States that enforce deportation of illegal immigrants, but bashes any Candidate who puts forth a Comprehensive approach to the problem. I don't think Lou Dobbs would be happy until all the illegal immigrants were thrown out of the country, and "Communist China" was bombed…

Bryan   March 4th, 2008 7:52 pm ET

You've got to love these "intelligent" comments from some of the Hillary supporters.

- "Vermont doesn't matter."
- "Go make some more syrup."
- "The intelligent voters of Ohio, Texas, and Rhode Island, will be the roadblock."

I'm sure the people of Vermont really appreciate those "special" remarks.

By the way, of the four states holding primaries today, Vermont has the highest percentage of college educated citizens.

Vermont - 32.4%
Rhode Island - 29.6%
Texas - 24.7%
Ohio - 23%

Sorry to confuse the issue with facts but felt it was necessary considering the comments.

Fanchiface   March 4th, 2008 7:51 pm ET

Congrats Mr. Obama. I am not an American however I am following the Election and black people all over the world are proud of your achievements so far. And even if you donot end up being the Nominee we all know that Hillary would not have gotten through without a fight. So go ahead and continue to make your people proud. We love you OBAMA

Jack from WV   March 4th, 2008 7:51 pm ET

I am curious if those women above the age of 65 have done their homework on the candidates available. If you are looking for someone with substance, a proven voting record, than I hate to admit it but Hillary is a better choice than Obama. His voting record is nothing to brag about. Voting present and not a yes or no on bills in front of the Senate is a bit discouraging to say the least. If he has a reason why the “present” than he should come out and tell the public why he didn’t vote one way or the other.
The Obama train is still going strong however there’s more to come and don’t count Hillary out just yet although there isn’t anything I would like to see more. Quit frankly the candidates available for election this year, are nothing I would am excited about. All three have been in the Senate and have run nothing at all no local government or State government so the idea they have the experience to run this country from day one is far fetched. McCain is the only one who has been in government for twenty years and has more experience than Hillary or Obama but still runs nothing and is a bit old and he isn’t getting any younger by the day. Wake up America we once again do not have a great leader among those running for President so it’s vote for the lesser of two evils.

JO OKLAHOMA   March 4th, 2008 7:51 pm ET

Melanie   March 4th, 2008 7:50 pm ET

Honestly, to Hillary Supporters, think about this : how much are countries like Iran, or Palestine, going to take Hillary Clinton seriously? She's a woman, for goodness sakes! This world is NOT ready for a Woman president to rule one of the most powerful countries in the world. Plus, according to polls, Mrs Clinton would lose by almost 10 points against McCain. Do you seriously want another Bush-like administration? I'm sorry to say this but this country is going down the drains!

Barb   March 4th, 2008 7:50 pm ET

Congratulations to the women of Vermont. As a young girl I grew up in your state and learned early about the wisdom of many of the old timers (over 50).

Smears maybe coming for Barack now but how well we remember the court cases, the trials, the attacks, the truth about Hillary's former boss, about Watergate, about Susan McDougal, about the famous dress.

Again thanks Vermont you "done well".

Not again!   March 4th, 2008 7:50 pm ET

You guys really drank the Kool Aid!

If Obama gets the Democratic nomination and is elected, it will be like having another Bush in the White House, all talk. Except, perhaps, that he can speak well. But, frankly, I'm getting tired of the same old speeches and his delight in hearing himself speak.

If I had to vote between Obama and McCain, I, and I know many, many other Democrats will probably jump ship. At least what you see is what you get with McCain.

I think that Obama should have actually tried to attempt to do the job he was elected to in 2004 - be a Senator from Illinios. He didn't even do that but instead started running for President of the United States. Go ahead and ask how his constituents feel about that. It ain't pretty!

I think that having a savvy woman run our country would be a great thing. There's too much raging testosterone in the world right now.

K   March 4th, 2008 7:50 pm ET

Come on Hillary!!!! You can do it!!!

Obama needs to be swaddled and can't answer any tough questions with out uh..uh…uh. stammering.

Obama has no clue about his "plan's" as he said before he will have people to do that.

He went back on public financing, claims he voted against Iraq..but wasn't a senator at the time and had no decision responsibility, lied about the billable hours to Rezko..etc…

So he is just like Hillary..minus she at least can explain her plans and initiatives. And her skeletons are old news and has been slammed from the git go…

Come on media treat Obama like every other candidate..or is it the media afraid of race backlash???

Sounds shifty to me..any way you put it…

Go Hillary!!!

Lynette Stapleton   March 4th, 2008 7:49 pm ET

At the time Obama opposed the war in Iraq he wasn't a Senator. If he was I am sure he would have voted for the war. The papers presented to the senate to establish the governments case for war have in time proved to be a complete fabrication.
Obama lacks experience. He would be better of applying for the vice presidency to gain that his experience.

Latina for Obama   March 4th, 2008 7:49 pm ET

Obama won because he needs to win. We do not need old style politics in Washington DC. Yes, hope….ironic……….Hilary is "hoping" to win Texas and Ohio……she critized Obama when he uses the word "hope"……I need to add, and I hope all those UNION members out there do their homework…When Hilary was a member of the Walmart board, they did not allow Unions. Hilary was a member of the board!!!! Hilary is not a UNION supporter! Regardless of what she says now.

Thanks Vermont. Beautiful state who voted right.

T-man   March 4th, 2008 7:46 pm ET

Hillary's arguments about her electability are getting more and more ridiculous. the new one's about her capacity to win big states.

anyone remember that if Gore had won the SMALL state of New Hampshire, he would have been president?

plus, obama runs far better among independent voters who will make all the difference in tight states.

Devoid   March 4th, 2008 7:46 pm ET

Goodheart: Clinton may "win" the big states, but she ends up sharing a great deal of the delegates with Obama because she does not win by large margins. When Obama wins the smaller delegate states he does so by large margins, therefore he's getting more delegates than she is even though she's pulling in the larger states (although she has only won a handful of those). The Obama campaign has it nailed on the head. Sweep the small states, and fight to get as much of the large states as you can. It's a winning strategy…one that shows excpetional leadership, I might add…

Frances   March 4th, 2008 7:46 pm ET

CRIS   March 4th, 2008 7:46 pm ET

all this nonsense about Obama not being a strong enough democrat to win big states is stupid. So what if he didn't win California in the primaries? If he gets the nomination, I doubt that California will all of a sudden turn republican in the general election. That's ridiculous.

Robert   March 4th, 2008 7:44 pm ET

Again, he won only because of his speech. He's got them brainwashed. Apparently people in Vermont don't realize Obama wasn't in the Senate when the vote took place on the resolution to authorize Bush to use force in Iraq. Nor do they realize that Bush would've gone in without approval - it's a President's Constitutional powers. Nor do they realize that part of the resolution was to support and equip our soldiers going into battle. Nor do they realize that Obama voted the same way Clinton voted on matters to fund the troops when he was actually in the Senate.

And speaking of popular votes, it doesn't matter how many states you win, the delegates are proportional. Moreover, if you look at the TRUE popular votes - states with primaries - you'll see Obama is way behind, in popular votes and in pledged delegates.

For those that are trying to push Clinton out of the race, remember Obama was about 100 pledged delegates under Clinton after the first Super Tuesday - why not call for his pulling out of the race then!

It will be a tragedy if Clinton drops out and Obama wins. Obama's all speeches but does not practice what he preaches. First his campaign meets with a foreign government to tell them to ignore what Obama's say about re-negotiating NAFTA, then they denied the meeting ever took place, then he admits the meeting took place but that words were misintrepreted, then they said his economic advisor was acting as a professor and not on behave of his campaign. If so, then his economic advison knows what Obama's saying cannot be done, and two how good is he if foreign nations mis-intrepret what he says.

sammy   March 4th, 2008 7:44 pm ET

What is wrong with you people. They practicaly have identical voting records, and stand on the same platform on most issues. At the end of the day, all that matters is that a democrat beats george bushes right hand man!!!!! We all have a stake in how how our country is run. And one thing we can all agree on is that a republican will drive us back to teh ground. Can you imagine that, this country going trough the great deppression all over again !!!!!………..

matt   March 4th, 2008 7:44 pm ET

12:0 it means equal to 0-2 after tonight. Look at the map and you see it. Democracy can loose Vermont and many other state where Obama win but must win in CA, FL, MI, TX, NM, OH where Clinton is leading. If you are a trully Democracy, you know what I mean. otherwise, you should learn more before head to the vote.

Anonymous   March 4th, 2008 7:44 pm ET

Vermont went to Obama because Vermont is about as Socialist as you can get without moving to Russia.

joy   March 4th, 2008 7:43 pm ET

He won because of money. I was so sick of his ad every 10 minutes in major stations, thanks to remote control I quickly got away from him.
Please, I see no substance! The Republicans will have a field day challenging this blank slate! How many times can he say "I voted against the war from the start"? He was not a US Senator about to vote. He did not see what the others saw from Administration officials. What matters now is what to do going forward.

Disappointed in Hillary   March 4th, 2008 7:43 pm ET

The negative lie-based attacks that the Clintons have thrown at Obama are despicable. I hope they don't damage Obama's chances when he takes on McCain in November!

I'm still on the fence. I cannot stand when Hillary starts her screechy yelling… But I would like to hear some 'plans' out of Obama's mouth.

I keep hear the verbal junk like 'OBAMA 2008 to change the way this country does business.' … Okay, now tell me HOW is this going to happen Obama.

Illinois   March 4th, 2008 7:42 pm ET

This was a no-brainer. Most people figured out that Obama would win Vermont, seeing as how he can say he was against the war even though he was not in a positioin to vote for or against it. Remember, he said he was against the war when he was running for office and was at an anti-war rally. Plus the majority of people in Vermont have a lot of money and are extremely liberal….Obama's bread and butter. Doesn't take a rocket scientist to see through this one. But he won't take Ohio or Texas or Rhode Island…..

His ability to take big states does matter. Has anyone noticed a pattern here?? Obama continually takes the traditional red states, along with a very few (and small) blue ones. What does this mean?? It means that the Independents and the Republicans are the ones who are actually voting for him, some are doing so to try to get Hillary out of the running. True democrats have almost always voted, and continue to vote for, Clinton….and if you don't believe me, check out the statistics. Independents and Republicans will not be voting for Obama during the general election. Wake up and smell the coffee. I swear some of you people are just stupid……..

I wonder why they bought obama's contention that Hilary's voting for war based on the information at that time was lack of judgement while in fact it was Love of country..when strangers trample your soil it is patriotic to fight. The Clinton administration used all diplomacies they could and we were attack right after his term. The current administration used force, one of America's prerogative. The benefit maynot be apparent now but time will tell. The only wrong war we had was Vietnam. On the other hand, Vermont might have voted for OBAMA to put him against Maccain and turn the table?….

The big states matters. Hillary is the way. The youths will be hibernating come falls.

Jeff   March 4th, 2008 7:39 pm ET

There was no such thing as the "war" vote. It was a vote to authorize the use of force should diplomacy fail authored by Carl Levin-(D-MI). The majority of voters in Vermont feel that Hillary Clinton was the commander in chief. Says a lot about Vermont.

OK, so Obama is like Guiliani, every sentence he utters contains Iraq, a noun and a verb. Talk about a single-issue candidate! While the Obama people are fixated on Iraq, other major powers are electing experienced and well-seasoned statesmen (stateswomen) as their leaders. And we are doing American Idol on a national scale, good grief. No doubt we are witnessing the reason for the decline of American global power.

Janet in Missouri   March 4th, 2008 7:36 pm ET

It doesn't matter where Barack Obama made the speech, it doesn't matter if he was in the Senate or not. The point is that he was against the war and was vocal about it. What about Hillary Clinton? She trusted GEORGE W. BUSH and voted to give him all the power he wanted to invade Iraq. How stupid can she be to trust him or ANY republican. I guess her saying that John McCain has more experience than she does is another sign that she panders to Republicans too much.

Eric   March 4th, 2008 7:36 pm ET

Vermont went for BO because the press told them to. The average American only hears what he/she is told by the press. There is no access directly to the candidates. So why is Obama winning? Because some reporters in the various media sectors find him to be more fun and exciting to write about. Forget policy issues or anything related to running the country. BO will ultimately face a dissection by the Republicans and I guess we are going to find a lot of dirt that we all wished we knew about before Hillary was dumped.

the whole big state theory is incorrect:

among those states Obama won all of them that could possibly be considered swing states in the general election.

Exit polls mean nothing. They declared Kerry the winner in 2004 based on exit polls.

The news media should be banned from reporting any results except those released by the states themselves, which would mean the polls would be closed.

In a general election the results should not be released until the last poll closes in the country. How many people in the western states decide not to vote after work because the networks have declared a winner based on an exit poll.

Lets not forget declaring a winner in Florida when the polls in the panhandle were still open. I guess they weren't aware that the state is in two time zones.

Obama loses bigs states to Clinton but the number of his voters are still larger than the Republican candidates combined.

Chris "I say we impose a media blackout until ALL polls have closed."

If we had a media blackout it would have to include all of the negative Clinton adds which she loves so much. Her kitchen sink strategy would be shot. I think she is despicable for these actions and maybe we should black them out if it stops these attacks which only hurt the democratic party.

"Hillary Clinton deserves the nomination. But, as George Bush before him Obama will get in based on popularity rather than genuine talent, proven leadership, or (God forbid) experience. For shame, American people - my family and I don't deserve what you are giving!!!!"

No one deserves anything - they have to EARN IT. The earn it by earning my vote. Bush won because the dem they ran against him was not good.

No your family doesn't deserve it - leave!

Congrats to Barack Obama :)

Go Hillary!

I can't believe Hillary was actually campaigning for McCain and against Obama. Hillary said she and McCain have experience and Obama has speeches in 2002.

Hillary has shown that she has no interest of her party at heart. A pitty.

Notice how Hillary supporters on here say YEAH Hillary and

How Obama supporters on here are Hillary go home - not Yeah Obama

Obama people are so immature acting on this blog. It is pathetic really.

Say something positive you Obama people - isnt that what your candidate is preaching anyways??????????? This group of Obama supporters in the most negative group in a campaign I have ever witnessed.

Go make so more syrup Vermont - who cares that it went to Obama. Hillary will be the next President!!

;)   March 4th, 2008 7:28 pm ET

The thing is.. is that Obama isnt winning the GE states.. hes winning the small states.. again if he wins i'll enjoy mccain beating him in the GE..

Miss H   March 4th, 2008 7:28 pm ET

Goodheart,

Why are most of the Hillary voters like to diminish Obama's wins??? This whole "Hillary wins the big states and Obama does well in the small states" is tired.
This is what got y'all in trouble and made y'all lost 11 states in a row. You focus wayyy to much on those so called "big" states, and you're running to be the President of the UNITED STATES of America?
You might as well run for President of the United Big States Of America. Look, if Hillary wins the nomination we will back her. We need a democrat in the White House. Of course, we all have our favorite but in the end we will be united. I can't speak bad about Hillary. So stop the hating.

Kat - yes, unlike pre-election polls, exit polls have proven extremely accurate.

Bill Schneider says the war in Iraq has dropped in importance. He should have said we, the media, won't cover it any more because the surge is working.
