Obama raises $55 million in February

Obama raised $55 million in February.
Obama raised $55 million in February.

(CNN) – Barack Obama’s campaign said Thursday that it had set a new campaign fundraising record, raising $55 million in February – roughly $20 million more than rival Hillary Clinton during the same time period. Nearly all of the money came in the form of contributions that can be used during the primary process.

The campaign said that 727,972 donors contributed to the campaign last month, including 385,101 first-time contributors. More than one million individuals have donated to Obama’s presidential campaign since it began last year.

More than $45 million of the February haul came in the form of online contributions, according to the campaign. More than 90 percent of those donations were $100 or less; half were $25 or less. Three-quarters of online donors in February were first-time contributors, and more than a third of those individuals went on to engage in volunteer activity coordinated through the campaign’s Web site.

The only strings Obama has is that he is accountable to the public that donated to the campaign.

Same her, KLM... If Hillary is ANYWHERE on the ticket, I'm voting McCain or Nader... She is literally the ONLY Democrat in the country that I would not vote for against a Republican or 3rd party... There are many others out there like me, too... That's why Limbaugh is trying to sabotage Barack... He's fat, but not stupid... Of course, Hillary will take help from anywhere, so she loves it...

Vote HOPE, America – OBAMA '08!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Some democrats think all big states - NY, CA, TEX, OHIO, NJ are automatically go to democrats regardless who the dominee is, Obama or Hillary. A big mistate. That's why democrat lost last two presidential election. Primaries and November general election is two different animals. First you select what you like to eat, but then in first Tuesday in November you pick what you need to eat - real red meat: National Security. Please, get smart.

I don't understand the comments that say Obama lost, with all that money. Americans are airheads.

first It's mathematically impossible for him to lose. Get smart.

2nd, the money isn't what makes him, it's what makes the media story.

75% of that was from donations under $100 and 50% was from donations under $25.

HRC SUPPORTERS, OBAMA LOCKED UP A WIN IN ELECTED DELEGATES ON MARCH 4TH. Ignore it all you want, HRC can only win through superdelegates. The only argument is whether that would hurt the party or destroy the party.

Hillary won by small margins because she pulled a Karl Rove, got nasty, lied and spread rumors. She is a very disreputable nasty piece of work and apparently the Hillary supporters are too ignorant to realize that if they elect her they will be getting gw bush in a pants suit! Nothing will change with the exception that there would be a woman making the wrong judgements vs a man! Or have you forgotten her Iraq and Iran votes? Have you forgotten that she'd stalling on releasing her tax returns? Have you forgotten that she doesn't want her phone logs released for 1 to 2 years? Have you forgotten that in reality she HAS NO EXPERIENCE! The people that are voting for hillary are the same brilliant people who voted twice for bush!

What I want to know is what will he do with all the illegal aliens that are in the country and stopping the Invasion from the South. No one is asking this question of Hillary or Obama. Do we just guess?
Maybe he can use some of that money to pay for their medical bills that we taxpayers have to pay for. With what is left over he can pay for the public schools that educate Mexico's children. 55 Mil goes a long way.

The old adage applies to Obama's speeches: "His voice sounds like the rush and exiliration of a mountain stream; but without any of the meaning".

  22. YES We Can!

I notice that Hillar supporters always call Obama an empty suit, and that his supporters are delusional, drinking kool-aid, and in a cult. I mean what is hope anyway.

Funny, because most of the Obama supporters are the children and grandchildren of the Clinton supporters.

And as always parents and grandparents never want to cut the apron strings...they want everyone to think just like them.

And funny when Obama supporters fight back they are labeled rude and told we are dumbing down America.... by the way THAT IS CALLED BEING BACK HANDEDLY RUDE!!

Even when the post should be a "way to go Obama for raising money" they come and bring their 2 cents like anyone cares.....

FACT: OBAMA IS THE DEMOCRATIC NOMINEE - DO THE MATH!!!

OBAMA '08! YES WE CAN! YES WE WILL.

I donated to a political campaign for the first time ever in February, to Obama, and I am a registered Republican. I think it is time to go donate more.

Oh, and CNN you need to break the story that Clinton's people met with the Canadian government. I sent you the newslink this morning but you ignored it. OH and that the witness list to Rezko came out and Obama is NOT on it because he is innocent here, too. I doubt you will post this, but at least you will see it.

90% of the donations to the Obama campaign were $100 or less – which shows that this movement is truly owned by us, the supporters. If Hillary had the good grace to FINALLY RELEASE THOSE MISSING TAX RETURNS we might actually learn where the 5 million she loaned her campaign came from. What do you have to hide, Senator Clinton? Big corporate names? Powerful interests abroad? Now wouldn't that sit well with those blue collar workers out in Ohio who voted for you...
