The Clinton campaign accused Obama Thursday of acting like Ken Starr.
The Clinton campaign accused Obama Thursday of acting like Ken Starr.

(CNN) – A Clinton campaign spokesman Thursday compared Barack Obama’s recent criticism of the New York senator to the actions of Whitewater prosecutor Ken Starr.

Since his losses on Tuesday night, Obama has stepped up his attacks on Clinton for her failure to release her most recent tax returns and other documents related to her time as first lady. Her campaign has said that she will release the tax records in advance of Pennsylvania’s April 22 primary, and that it cannot control the release of the White House schedules in question.

On a Thursday conference call with reporters, Clinton communications director Howard Wolfson said that the Illinois senator was attempting to sidestep questions about his readiness to lead the country. “He chose not to address those questions, but to attack Senator Clinton. I for one do not believe that imitating Ken Starr is the way to win a Democratic primary election for president," said Wolfson.

He also responded to Obama’s contention that Clinton had criticized Rick Lazio, her Republican Senate opponent in 2000, for not releasing his returns by noting that Clinton and her husband, former President Bill Clinton, had been making that information public for decades.

"As somebody who led the effort to ensure that Mr. Lazio provided his tax returns, certainly at that point he had not provided 20 years of his tax returns to the people of New York," Wolfson said.

Obama campaign spokesman Bill Burton responded to the criticism by accusing the Clinton team of a double standard.

“…We don’t believe that expecting candidates for the presidency to disclose their tax returns somehow constitutes Ken Starr-tactics, but the kind of transparency and accountability that Americans are looking for and that’s been missing in Washington for far too long,” said Burton, in a statement to reporters.

“And if Sen. Clinton doesn’t think that the Republicans will ask these very same questions, then she’s not as ready to go toe-to-toe with John McCain as she claims.”

The Clintons are so hypocritical it makes me sick. They go all out with the dirty politics and whine like children when it gets thrown back at them. Hilary Clinton will destroy the Democratic party with her ugly campain tactics. If she gets the nomination, McCain will win the general election.

Ronald, American living abroad   March 6th, 2008 2:48 pm ET

All these poor people deceived by Hillary's lies are missing the point by claiming "I wouldn't release my income tax return!" Beyond the emotionalism, if you applying for the job of President of the United States, Commander in Chief then you would absolutely release those tax returns unless you had something to hide. Even Hillary and her political support in Ohio demanded that their election opponents in previous races release their returns. The real question is this: if Hillary has nothing to hide, then why doesn't she release her 2006 (not 2007 for those simpletons who keep insisting that they aren't due until April 15) tax returns? Could it be that the return's release would have a material impact on the Clinton's California law suit?

Why is CNN so slow at updating all the SuperDelegate endorsements for Obama over the past couple of Days? What about the incredible $55 million Obama raised last month? What is CNN trying to hide?

qlinderman   March 6th, 2008 2:47 pm ET

To JEAN: It is of major importance and you would know that if you did your history homework (or get your head out). CLINTONS are CORRUPT! When they were ion office there was nothing but SCANDAL! We as Americans have every right to question their integrity given their past ! And I am not talking about the affairs Bill had or the affairs Hillary hadhere ( yes, she had affairs as well, do your homework!) I am talking about REAL CORRUPTION that took place while they had the White House last time!
GET OUT CLINTONS!!
YOU ARE VILE!

The Clinton attacking machine is starting. they will do anything . they are not thinking about the unity of the democratic party, I personally vote for McCain than Clinton.

If the IRS doesn't have a problem, why should we...CNN stop taking sides.

Raymond Micheals   March 6th, 2008 2:47 pm ET

Being qualified to be President includes being able to stay above board on those things that disqualify you from being one. If Hillary has difficulties releasing her tax return then she is not worthy to be President.

She simply has something to hide and she is ready to MISLEAD from day one.

RT   March 6th, 2008 2:46 pm ET

You would think that Hillary, to make a great case for all her experience in the White House, would release the her white house papers to show the American people exactly what she did and what makes her qualified. To not release these raises big doubts about her claims of the so-called experience. If she doesn't, she is nothing but hot air and an empty pant-suit. Just like she calls Obama..........

Who is all talk now Hillary?

Leslie Somerville, Seattle, Washington   March 6th, 2008 2:46 pm ET

Hillary, you really need to go after Obama deeply. Know one knows about the real Obama. You are superficial, have been around a long time-but Obama is real creepy, and I mean that with a Capital "C"
GO AFTER HIM LIKE A PIT BULL HILLARY. (FOR THE JUGULAR)
Make him cry like a baby. This nomination process in lame by any standards. You know by now how to make him cry, or at least loose sleep. Go to another level now Hillary and beat him up good.
Another think-who gives a crap about how much money you and your husband have??? If that is all the Obama camp is waiting for, that is pitiful. I hope you have invested well, but by my guess, since you could only donate 5 million to yourself in time of need, and needed the support of your nation of followers, I would guess your tax returns will be boring.

Kim, Pasadena, CA   March 6th, 2008 2:46 pm ET

I would like to see someone ask Senator Clinton what she means by a "time out on trade." This is the height of insubstantial soundbyte, unless she actually means she plans to stop trade - but for how long, days, weeks, months, years? And isn't stopping trade a rather dubious policy idea? What doesn't someone ask her what she means.

I would also like to see someone ask Senator Clinton if she thinks that the actions of her husband, former President Bill Clinton, in signing bank deregulation into law helped bring about our current subprime and prime mortgage mess. It seems to me that banking deregulation is directly responsible. I would like to hear Senator Clinton explain why she thinks it is not, or at least, tell us if she disagreed with former President Bill Clinton's decision to go along with banking deregulation.

These are some of the questions I would like to see asked. I would also like to see those tax returns, the list of donors to the library and Senator Clinton's White House records. Senator Clinton keeps saying she is "vetted," but she hasn't been vetted on any of this. No-one doubts that the Republicans will have a field day with whatever is out there - shouldn't the Democrats get a chance to look at it first?

Ken   March 6th, 2008 2:46 pm ET

Obama is now turning to be like any other politician and is reaching for straws. Anything to try and make Hillary look bad. He should stick to the issues and not be concerned with Hillary's tax return. Besides, that is why we have the IRS, if there is something there, let them do their job.

Obama is a sore loser. He is ALL TALK and no substance.

Hillary is the better person, the person who has the talent, skills, knowledge and experience to become our next President. Obama should ask to be Hillary's VP, so that he can gain the talent, skills, knowledge and experience to become President AFTER Hillary does her two terms as President.

Kate   March 6th, 2008 2:46 pm ET

So her campaign compares his question to Ken Starr? who are they kidding they started punching and now start to whine when they are hit back. Maybe she will cry next.

John AndrePont   March 6th, 2008 2:46 pm ET

Obama can dish it out, but he can't take it. Did everyone notice the hard look in his eyes after Hillary won her three primaries on 3/4/08?
Now that the media is questioning him about some pertinent things, he's getting riled and stepping up his attacks on Hillary. Notice he always refers to her as "the Clintons" and not usually as Hillary or Mrs. Clinton?

He is an eloquent phoney and the Republicans will annihilate him.

The Obama supporters present themselves as well-informed college educated individuals.

However, one would never know that from the posts. Most comments are inarticulate and many are downright illiterate. You argue from emotion (name calling, insults and denigrating the opinions of others) rather than from reason (a well constructed factual argument). You spew hate instead of displaying vision.

Ironically, this runs counter to the very positions of the candidate you claim to support. Putting the college education aside for a moment and relying strictly on intelligence and common sense- do you all really believe that this helps Obama in the end, by winning over voters?

dj   March 6th, 2008 2:44 pm ET

Come on folks.. bring on the investagation.. WOW you people still have not learned.. The Clintons are good folks.. Yep. Bill messed up in his personnel life. But, for us as Americans. He did right.!!!!.
You all keep forgetting Hillary is not Bill. And, Like it or not. She will be the next President of our great Nation...
And, It's about time.
A man has been running this Nation for eight years now..
How are you all doing with that? Do you like filling up your cars?
Have you lost your home yet? Well the year is not up yet... You still have time.. You might.

Hillary will send this country to hell. When is the media going to start reporting on the court case coming up.

Mia, Stafford, VA   March 6th, 2008 2:44 pm ET

Everyone knows that presidential candidates and presidents release their tax returns as well as their health records (to some degree)

This is not news to the Clintons. It is important where you get your money from, because of the concern of possible influence.

I think it is interesting that Wolfson would bring up Ken Starr's name, hopefully that will remind many people of what we can expect with a Clinton Administration.

One of the primary reasons I don't support her is the baggage that she and her husband bring, some undeserved, but a lot of it is baggage they created. We need to move forward, and while I think she is capable I think she won't be as effective because she will be constantly fighting attacks and when fighting attacks it's hard moving forward the American Agenda.

With that said Senator Obama is capable as well, less baggage and is inspiring people to become involved. We need that whole package!

Without citizens getting involved, locally, statewide and nationally the American Agenda will never move forward, which is why it is critical to have a leader that engages and inspires the American People to get involved.

Annice-Georgia   March 6th, 2008 2:43 pm ET

Who cares about their taxes. They have worked hard and invested wise to get whatever they have. I want someone wuth guts that can lead our country. She has GUTS for the job...she has prior experience in all major issues and already knows the in-and-outs of how things should be run. Our position as a super power in the world was much better with a Clinton in office.......Our economy and job market was much better with a Clinton in office.....I say we NEED another Clinton for 8 more years so we can get back on track. She cares about people an that is another plus.

Susan, Seattle   March 6th, 2008 2:43 pm ET

When Clinton was running against Rep Lazio for the NY Senator seat, she hounded him and hounded him for his tax returns even having someone in an Uncle Sam suit chase him around. And now she won't release hers? This is pure hypocrisy. And it's also quite suspicious. Why not shut everyone up if you have nothing to hide? Why do we have to wait until 4/15 to get her 2000-2006 tax returns? Perhaps it's because Bill Clinton has been getting millions of dollars from the Arabs, Dubai and other Islamic organizations. This is not rumor, was reported by Dick Morris, former Clinton political advisor of 20 years — Google it and see for yourself.

Outrageous   March 6th, 2008 2:43 pm ET

Sure go ahead release them......I mean you BO release all your dealings with Rezko, how about your real state dealings with him that have gone unchallenged?.
Starr spent over 75 million dollars of our money investigating the Clintons and came up with NADA. NO WRONG DOING. It is time we find someone who will be willing to look into your dealings and that of your wife Mitchell when member of the board at a city hospital in Chicago where her actions led to the firing of 100's of employees (most of them African American). If this is where you want to go, then be prepared to hide from what is coming your way. I feel sorry for your campaing. It is clear that the inspirational words of "change" are turning into "sour" words of accusations and negativity.
CNN, I hope you do show my comments. It is time you end the honeymoon with this so call "change" presidential candidate

nikki   March 6th, 2008 2:43 pm ET

Hillary is a liar, if she has 35 years of experience then she should prove it, why doesn't she authorize the release of the WH schedules. Obama has every right to call her on her "experience". Where did she get the 5 million from to "loan" her campaign? For all of the shrillaryites who keep bringing up Rezko, investigate, the witness list came out and Obama isn't on it! By the way why is it so hard to just disclose your tax returns shrillary?...

YES WE CAN! CHANGE WE CAN BELIEVE IN! OBAMA 08'!!

WAKE UP AMERICA PLEASE WAKE UP!!!!!!

Kim, GA   March 6th, 2008 2:43 pm ET

Yeah, people lives are being destroyed by our current president and CNN wants to talk about Tax records. Everyone in the USA knows Hillary Clinton is for sale to the higher bidder. Lets move on to the real topics.

Mariann Pepitone   March 6th, 2008 2:42 pm ET

I would like to see Obama's tax returns when he was an attorney for Rezko. And he make plenty of money thru him but was some of the payment in CASH? Hillary should not have to show any tax refunds or should anyone else. Tax refunds are personal and should not be shown to the public. If I was Hillary I wouldn't show them at all. And Obama should mind his own business and keep his mind on his campaigning. Apparently he didn't do so weel in the najor states again. That leads me to believe that if Obama wins the nomination those major states will switch to McCain to block Obama from becoming the president of this country. And that would be good news.

Ruscle   March 6th, 2008 2:41 pm ET

WORSE than that... Clinton's latching onto the Canadian Neo-con lies about Obama's position on NAFTA... as the dust settles, sure she won Ohio... by deceiving the voters of Ohio. It makes her look awful. More like a Republican than anything Obama has done. Who cares that she's rich rich rich. (What her tax returns will show.) She's got poor judgement. All her experience means squat when she's falling for neo-con NAFTA/Canadian lies... which is exactly what she did when she supported the war... before she was against it. Same with NAFTA. We've already had a candidacy like that. How long is it going to take for the Flip Flopper charges to stick to her?

rusty   March 6th, 2008 2:41 pm ET

My guess is, by the time the Clinton's release their tax returns, they will have been washed, dried, stir fried, and won't resemble anything close to the truth. Will Ohio then have "buyers remorse" over their choice? The Clinton's are experts at "spin". Unfortunately, that is the only thing they are good at.

JJ   March 6th, 2008 2:40 pm ET

Tell me honestly why will she not release them NOW??? Because they are being "prepared" for public viewing.. thats why. If someone told me to release mine and I had nothing I wanted to hide I would release them immediatly. I suspect that when she does finally release them they wont have anything that will prosecute her on them because they are now being "worked on". The Clintons know people in very high places that will fix this for them for a price.

Theresa   March 6th, 2008 2:40 pm ET

Let's get real folks!! Why is the only solution to any problem costly? Are you all air heads? This problem you're having in Florida and Michigan and the delegates can be solved without costing a dime.

JUST SPLIT THE DELEGATES BETWEEN OBAMA AND HILLARY.

Adam, CA   March 6th, 2008 2:39 pm ET

Who's like Ken Starr?

The person complaining about a land deal or the person asking for tax disclosure a normal occurance in a campaign?

Now if you want obama to act like ken starr lets start back up the innuendo machine about what the young attorney with substantial billing for McDougal's failed and bailed S&L should have known. Lets talk about the governor who succeeded bill getting tangled up and convicted in that scheme. Let's ignore that Clinton like Obama has not been indicted and play the innuendo game in the court of public opinion.

Perhaps in talking about the Clinton Tax records we should remind the american people of Bill Clinton's and maddeline albrights affiliation with the Dubai Ports deal while Senator Clinton was attacking the deals in the senate. Innuendo and scare tactics are republican weapons I would hope our party rises above it but right now it is Seantor Clinton not Obama playing the innuendo card.

A card that is just as easy to play on Senator Clinton and I ahven't even gotten to Hsu.

Carol   March 6th, 2008 2:38 pm ET

Rezko is a small name compared to BUSH/MCCAIN/CHEN. Oil is high because Hiliburton has Americans working the oil fields in Iraq. Before this election is over, we will probably see more heads roll than expected. Hillary Clinton has opened up a can of worms for a lot of people because of her supreme power attitude. She started mud slinging and suggesting Obama is not qualified. I don't think her credentials will reflect all she says. She knows how to talk politics. It would be wonderful to see her and Michelle Obama debate. Michelle would tear her out the frame.
OBAMA FOR PRESIDENT.

Hill wants to sling mud............then she'd better be set up to receive mud. She said she's used to it. She indicated that Obama wouldn't be able to handle it when the going gets rough. Well....it's getting rough so let's shop the whinning. I have a feeling Hill is only starting to hear the tip of the iceberg. She'll be pouting and accusing press,
Obama, and Republican's for the oncoming onslaught. She'll once again attempt to use the old "squeeky wheel gets the grease" tactic she's so good at........and the press will bite into it bending over backwards to prove they don't show partiallity.

mike   March 6th, 2008 2:36 pm ET

Clinton is the one who is so desperate, and has been for awhile. Clinton's are making me sick and speechless about politics. Well, now it''s a sure thing for me: she won't get my vote if she wins by such means. Frankly, first I was more lean towards Clinton, but, began to have doubts when she and MR. Clinton started their negativeness on Obama...

MickyD10   March 6th, 2008 2:36 pm ET

Why is it that my comments rarely get posted? I have not broken any of the CNN comment policies. Nor has anything I've said been inappropriate in any way. Not even close. And it has nothing to do with volume either. Many comments have appeared long after I have made mine. Does CNN have something against fact and rational thinking? Or is it that they just want to see a particular slant which fits into their own bias position on the issues being put forth.

Ellen C Canada   March 6th, 2008 2:36 pm ET

I think both Clinton and Obama should be concentrating on the
Issues and how they intend to make the changes they have stated concerning the issues.

The attack me and I'll one up you is making both candidates look like high school kids and will soon get tiresome, nerve racking to listen to.

Adults need to act their age.

Anonymouse   March 6th, 2008 2:36 pm ET

aww, what's wrong kids, your man Obama has a little scrutiny thrown at him and he can';t handle it? Clinton has been under scrutiny for the past 16 years, Obama scrutiny has only scratched the surface – and the Rezko thing and his ability to command (or lack of) has really hurt his tiny feelings – he even accused the press of being against him, hahahahahahahaa – they have treated him with kid glove to date until very recently. What a powder puff....and this is the guy who we want to handle international emergencies for us? Not me folks, I care about my family.

He loses all the big blue states and you point out lamely how he has more states... hahahaha

Idaho and most of the other small states Obama has won have many less electoral votes than the big blue states – ALL of which Hillary has won, except for Illinois (no need to speculate on that one).
More than half of the states votes he has won could be wiped out by one big blue states votes – like NY or California easily. So that is really a nonsense posturing point. The supers need to vote for the candidate with the best chance of winning and best qualifications to plan policy including foreign affairs and lead the nation, not just blindly and lamely follow what the popular vote as all the BO whiners keep asking for. That candidate is the one who can carry the BIG BLUE states – again many of those small states will 1) not vote BLUE, and 2) even if they do, they have a pitifully small number of votes.
Study up kids, there will be a test in November....

As Ohio goes so goes the nation, Hillary you go girl, keep fighting all the way- right to the convention!

John in Charlotte   March 6th, 2008 2:35 pm ET

What's the matter Hillary? Scared America's going to see who really loaned your campaign 5million dollars?

Louis   March 6th, 2008 2:34 pm ET

Pu-leeze!!! Folks, it appears to me that Obama has done all he could up to this point to keep this race clean, fair and on the issues. Clinton, in her DESPERATION, resorted to old guard smear tactics. It worked for her; so she's going to continue. I would be the LAST person if I was her to start a smear campaign. Obama has not BEGUN to use the kind of fodder against her as he could. Just a re-hashing of she and Bill's past dealings would be enough to have people questioning her ethics and integrity from here on out. She should have kept it clean; now, she's probably going to have to answer for more than her tax returns.

Theresa   March 6th, 2008 2:33 pm ET

Hillary is so obsesed with being the first woman President she will do anything to accomplish her mission. And I mean anything. It's about time the news media called her on the devious tricks she is pulling. I have lost all respect for her and I'm hoping everything back fires on her.

We all want real change and honesty. She lies so much, all I see is a crooked administration again.

Edward Green   March 6th, 2008 2:33 pm ET

Is pathetic the Clintons are bringing up Ken Starr.Question people have to ask is was it Ken Starr that dropped Bill's pants? HILLARY WILL DO ANYTHING TO WIN ELECTION.The Clintons have a lot of things in their closet but their have the gut to question Obama on Rezko which upto now nobody,I repeat nobody has found anything wrong on Obama's part.Go back and look at Hillary's record of inside trading where she committed illegality to make profits that were statistical impossibility.Look at their estate dealings, look at their dealings with China and again who are the contributors the husband library project. Americans should asked themselves who they want as President- Is it the manipulating Clintons or someone who is fresh and Honest. When asked if Hillary has answered the 3 am call before her campaign could not come out with anything but take credits for things that happen during the husband's presidency, yet she does not want to take the negatives that come with it. When the Obama team was asked they admitted that none of them has answered such a call before but he has the judgement. That is the difference! Honest leaders will want. In any case what was Bill's experience in foreign policy before he became president? Those who love the Clintons because of Bill's work should ask themselves why Obama cannot be a good president.

Selena   March 6th, 2008 2:33 pm ET

This comparison is absolutely ludicrous and desperate!!! But thank you Sen. Clinton, you have just made me donate to Obama's campaign and purpose once again.

ON another note, where was your husband the night of your big win in Ohio?

All the other candidates has their spouse right by there side.

California Voter   March 6th, 2008 2:32 pm ET

Obama's campaign is run by David Axelrod. As I recall he is/was part of the old Mayor Daley machine. So I'm sure there are plenty of "dirty tricks" left in his bag of tricks. Obama can't get away with just calling his errors in judgment "bone-head" mistakes, Rezko for example. What about Obama's membership in a separatist church? How can he be the great uniter?

I realize that these comments wont be read ,but I feel that Hillary Clinton, and her husband are running a very negative campaign.I as an african american veiw this election as a hoax, and it show s the world, nothing has chaged. It's the same old games with the same player's.I will never vote again, the people's vote doesn't count for anything.I think the way the media is attacking Obama, and Hilliary's negative statements, and attacks on his creditability wont be able to be repaired after this election.I would rather vote for John McCain, than Hillary, and I think you will see a lot of this if Hilliary Clinton wins the nomination.

The tax thing is customary for all who are running in an election and it isn't this years it is last years. Obama and the other demos that were running already did this. She is the only one holding out.

If she gets elected expect more of the same.....investigation after investigation...nothing will get done.

asking to see tax returns is perfectly legit. some might say Obama is being desperate because of his losses on Tuesday, but where were the Hillary supporter's morals during his streak of victories while she constantly became more and more aggressive and had to start bringing "experience" into the equation (by the way having experience at saying your experience doesn't count)

Wasn’t it that same experience that sat and watched America move in the direction that it has? My country didn’t end up here over night; it was following all that great stale experience that has caused me to hang my head a little lower.

All candidates are supposed to show their IRS forms... it's just that Hillary appears to be stalling, waiting out the calendar of primaries and the chance of people finding something objectionable on her income tax filings... and her White House itinerary showing her activities while first lady (and the chance that people might judge that her activities were mostly social rather than being closely involved in anything relating to policy)... etc. It's very telling that she withholds this information during a campaign that is focused around all her "experience" which, turns out, was mostly 15 years or so as a corporate lawyer in Arkansas and being first lady... with less time in state/federal senate positions than Obama. No mystery... she's withholding information... for a reason that will serve herself.

AMK   March 6th, 2008 2:29 pm ET

Obama isn't the change we were looking for after all.......politics as usual, eh Obama?

Nevada for Obama   March 6th, 2008 2:28 pm ET

Calling for the Clintons to release their tax returns is just a start. Every one else running for president has released theirs without asking, but for the Clintons, you have to remind them, which reminds everyone that the Clintons cannot be trusted. She claims that she has 35 yrs of experience which includes her 15 yrs as a co-owner of Rose law firm in Arkansas. I hope Obama looks into who she represented during those lenthy 15 yrs in the Rose law firm.

Hillary claims that she has a "life time" experience in dealing with foreign leaders. What a habitual liar!. America would like to know the names of the foreign leaders and the treaties she signed on behalf of the United States. Can somebody point me to one foreign policy achievement ever credited to Hillary Clinton?

It is time the media stop chasing shadows and start asking tough questions of Hillary's bogus 35 yrs experience on everything from Health care to national security. 35 yrs of policy experience stretched back to Kennedy and Johnson administrations, and this woman is about 60 yeras old, give me a brake, this whole thing is the most fairy tale that I have ever seen in my life. Obama should get down from his "Mr. nice Guy" chair and into the trenches with this ruthless woman who would do and say anything to win election.

Gary   March 6th, 2008 2:28 pm ET

Now you've done it, Hillary!! I had warned you about it. But you still embraced the dark side, and have released the demons from hell and resurrected the sordid scandals of the past. The Democratic party is headed towards Armageddon

Adam B   March 6th, 2008 2:27 pm ET

Cute. She's a victim again now.

Truth Be Known   March 6th, 2008 2:27 pm ET

When the truth comes out on Hillary and Bill Clinton involvement in organization outside of the US and doing Business with Russia and UEA many will be surprise. CIA has information that they are holding back....

Joan   March 6th, 2008 2:26 pm ET

I'd compare Hillary to Karl Rove or Jesse Helms after her racist comments of late.

Sherri   March 6th, 2008 2:26 pm ET

I think it's great that people have their opinions but be brave enough to look at the facts.

Obama regarding Resko – Obama donated the 85,000 received from Resko to charity rather than keep it.

Clinton regarding Peter Paul – There is so much of a scandal brewing here and once again they are not being transparent. What is apparent however is that the Clintons have become masters at getting around scandal, after scandal, after scandal...I'm surprised the media hasn't taken more of a run at this. How can we really know the truth. As far as we know she hasn't donated her share to charity...what was it 1.2 million? Is that why those tax returns haven't been released???????

You will never get perfection from a candidate, so don't except it, but maybe a little forthrightness would be good. GOBAMA08

when I see Ken Starr, I feel very sad for his parents. To me his face says it all.

realist   March 6th, 2008 2:26 pm ET

Whats the big deal about tax returns... if you haven't done anything wrong then you would show them without the fuss. It's obvious shes in money trouble and she wants to divert the attention to another bs claim. Props to obama for not giving in to these gradeschool tactics.

Lynda, Missouri   March 6th, 2008 2:26 pm ET

I hope that people will begin to see through the Clinton tactics and increase Obama's momentum again in full force; as Hillary and/or her "campaign people" are following the road of least resistance in despaeration with their "kitchen sink" style of politics. It is nothing new and that is my point. Most of us have been disappointed in the past by these tactics; which is why Mr. Obama's message has been a breath of fresh air.
Democrats: I do not want to be against an idealogy or a people; I want to be for something. I was for Obama and also for Hillary; as she is truly a good candidate as well (for different reasons). Is there any way the Dems can run this race with dignity and respect? I hope we can. – Lynda in Missouri

I'm sorry guys but I franlky dont see how releasing one's personal tax returns becomes relevant at this stage of the process. I'm more interested in hearing candidates' positions on issues bordering on the economy, health care, national security, etc

Theresa Duff   March 6th, 2008 2:25 pm ET

I'm beginning to think that this MESS in Florida and Michigan over delegates was caused by a bunch of idiots. Why on earth is the only answer to any problem spending money?

ONE SIMPLE SOLUTION to the problem, without spending money and is the only FAIR thing to do is SPLIT THE DELEGATES between Obama and Clinton. Half for each candidate. Problem solved.

Janel, St. Paul, MN   March 6th, 2008 2:24 pm ET

"Obama attacking Clinton?"" Really?

People are smart enough to know that the Clintons are the ones continually attacking Obama. It is sickening now and will be even more so if "they" are back in the White House.

They seem to have no moral ground to stand on. It is very, very sad!!

Texas4Obama   March 6th, 2008 2:24 pm ET

When the media finally starts reporting on the CURRENT lawsuit in California in the court system PETER PAUL vs. CLINTONS then the Clintons will be heading home with their tails between their legs - the tax returns from last year will just be the 'cherry on top' - Hillary IS NOT vetted but soon she will be and America will see her for what she is – A FRAUD, a money grubber, and a schemer!

Richard Campbell   March 6th, 2008 2:24 pm ET

She has something to hide... watch out!!!!!

DC   March 6th, 2008 2:24 pm ET

Florida votes should be counted and counted as we voted on that Tuesday. A recount, expensive as it is, is not an excuse for those Floridians that chose not to vote because their vote wouldn't have been counted. There was an important property tax question on that ballot! That question was counted and that vote counted.

KJ, CA   March 6th, 2008 2:24 pm ET

How can anyone defend the kind of tactics that the Clinton campaign is using/has been using? This is the icing on the cake for the beginning of the end for her. Wake Up Clinton supporters – this is not what it is about. From the fear mongering 3am commercial, to comparing Obama to Ken Starr – HRC is GWB with the difference being that she has a "D" behing her name and he has an "R". Hillary has no regard for the party, she has no regard for her opponent – the only thing that Hillary cares about it being the President of the United States and she will do anything and say anything to get it done. Absoutely disgusts me – she is destroying any chance that any credible woman has of running for President anytime in the near future.

C. Cooks   March 6th, 2008 2:23 pm ET

I really hate to see Obama stoop to Hillary's level. It wasn't Hillary's negative ads that helped her win in Texas and Ohio, It was Bill Clinton stating that if she did not win both states she would not win the nomination. If Hillary does win the nomination, I'm voting for McCain. Hillary does not appear to be trustworthy.

Ed from Atl   March 6th, 2008 2:22 pm ET

I really want to see how Obama will react. I want to see his true colors. I want to see his real persona. Every single politician in the world is a two face, including him. Obviously, he is portraying a holier than thou image and he hasn't been around old Washington politics to personally know all the dirt that can be thrown his way.

marsak   March 6th, 2008 2:22 pm ET

Would CNN please investigate the Clintons connections to Exxon, Mobil and Amaco, which has been alleged by Rober Baer to have resulted in missed opportunities to get Bin Laden and Sadam Hussein? Also what about the effect Clinton's administration had on the CIA operations?

She really wants to have a discussion with John McCain on National defence and security? On what basis? What can she say that would possibly trump his 30 years in the Senate and being a war hero? Yet again indications of BAD JUDGMENT on her part.

And now comparing Obama to Star for just asking for basic transparancy.... just scandalous and vexatious nonsense.

Matt   March 6th, 2008 2:22 pm ET

The idea that this is hillary's "turn" is about as ludicrous as Obama bowing out to give it to her when she has no hope of actually winning and he is in fact in the lead comfortably. Every day the Clinton camp becomes more and more like the Orwellian double-speak of the Rove camp. Perhaps they've hired him on. If she wins, it will be a new democratic low in this country.

Chuck in Oregon   March 6th, 2008 2:21 pm ET

To those that think that asking for the release of personal income and business tax information to the publis is wrong. Well all I can say is this is a normal process that all candidates have gone through, it is what is it for many years.
It has to do with transparency, honesty and integrity of the candidate.
On a personal note, I would want to know all I can about a candidate. The source of their income is paramount, for example do they have special interest in a particular major corporation that is considered a conflict of interest.

Nancy   March 6th, 2008 2:21 pm ET

HEY, HILLARY!

What is the $100 million deal that Bill Clinton just closed?
Maybe that's the reason for no disclosure of tax returns.

Tony   March 6th, 2008 2:20 pm ET

Barack is going to step up his attacks; he has to. The Clintons know how the media works. Barack is a quick learner; he will focus the negative attention on her 2 days before Pennsylvania votes. Not only will she have to release how she "borrowed" money from herself to fund her campaign, but also the records of her when she was in the white house. The Clintons are trying to trap Barack. If he attacks they will say he is a typical politician. If Barack does not attack he losses Pennsylvania.

Clintonions to release their tax informations documents is a big deal for the public interest, let us not ignoring that, because the old game Washington politics that tells you that to wait until after pennsylvania primary is a sily politics.

Edi   March 6th, 2008 2:17 pm ET

stella   March 6th, 2008 2:17 pm ET

Hey John, everytime people attacking Obama for not having a meeting in the commitee he chaired, I always wonder what has Clinton done, since Jan. 2007 when Obama just became the Chirman, other than her campigning?

Sarah L, Fayetteville, AR   March 6th, 2008 2:16 pm ET

Also, Howard Wolfson is a real weasel. It doesn't seem like the Clinton camp really cares about winning in November. All they care about is getting the nomination at whatever cost.

Senator Clinton doesn't care about small states or red states (unless it's TX) She doesn't seem to care at all about the millions of people supporting Senator Obama. Otherwise, she wouldn't go out of her way to destroy him.

Clinton should release her tax returns like every other presidential candidate already has. Obama isn't asking for 2007, he's asking for 2005, 2006. So, they don't need to wait until April 15th.

Also, why haven't we seen the records from Clinton's years in the Whitehouse? Why are they being tied up?

It'l legitimate for Obama and the American people to ask these questions. It's not like Ken Starr.

When the Ken Starr investigation took place, I was strongly behind Bill Clinton. Now, I'm beginning to see why people hated them so much.

Michael   March 6th, 2008 2:16 pm ET

I like what Obama says about the need for change, and the things that need to be changed. So far, though, I haven't heard him say what exactly the change is he wants to effect, or how he will bring that change about.

Ruby marshall   March 6th, 2008 2:16 pm ET

Sen. Clinton propose the Dream Ticket just as to try to unify the PARTY
It is a gesture of optimistic value in bringing the party to win in general election..

Ken Starr's name was mentioned so as to compare what Obama's campaign is trying to bring out after his defeat on March 4. He's putiing a trial which is premature and baseless..Hillarry is going to show her tax returns in due time. She is not hiding anything because her life and dreams are owned by the people and the media already.
She is a public figure consistent with what she is, credible, honest, revealing and determine, hardworking leader that we can depend on in times of crisis. She handled her campaign well, after the crisis which has occured earlier during her campaign.

Ken, Tucson, AZ   March 6th, 2008 2:15 pm ET

President, and Senator Clinton's life has been an open book since they went to Washington in t 1992; the Republicans and other conservatives mad sure of that. And of all the charges hurled at the Clinton's, none stuck. Therefore, I think the Obama campaign could best use it's time by detailing what he intends to do if elected president.

simple thought ?   March 6th, 2008 2:15 pm ET

april 15th is the tax deadline, why would anyone want the information before they are completed?
she said she would release them in april.
sounds fair to me.

First I would like to say I am a female and I want to say what female has on makeup, her hair done and dressed in a pant suite at 3:00a.m
Hillary keeps speaking on experience during those thirty five years she
was in college. What did she do run college? The only experience she has is hiring someone to follow Bill all the times he cheated on her and last but not least she has 3 different personalities seems like her magic number is 3 shes trying to get a third term for Bill, not this time theres a new breed ,we a young fresh new way of doing things. The Clintons do everything to benefit them. Hillary was given the Healthcare issue by Bill her husband the President ,okay do you think she was not going to get things done her husband was the President .I also would like to say this is a perfect example (Bush and Cheney) everything they wanted to do it was done ,they were first and second in command.Hillary Healthcare issues was done behind the scenes. The only way were going to fight the taliban is unite as a country and stop this racism, poverty, and people who do not want equal rights ,they will divide and conquer us with fear.People seem like they fear this, thats why I think different about Hillary when she mocked at Barack about this you could still put forth and effort to change the world and make it a better place I can relate to Barack I have a melting pot in my family also. Hillary always plays the victim shes always been wealthy and I can see through her fake ways shes playing on certain races for political status.

Chris   March 6th, 2008 2:14 pm ET

For all those who are defending her with comments such as:
"doesn't she have until April 15th to file her tax returns"

I have an answer:

We are talking about 2006 tax year! Not 2007! And I don't hear anything about her having filed an amended 2006 form!

Where's Bill Clinton?   March 6th, 2008 2:14 pm ET

Just a thought...I was watching ALL the speeches from yesterday. Mike Huckabee was with his wife...John McCain was beside his wife...Obama's wife lead him out to the stage to speak...BUT WHERE IS BILL CLINTON?!?....I"m I the only one noticing that Hillary Clinton and her campagin are trying to HIDE Bill Clinton? Why do I not see them together...You only see Hillary by herself or with their daughter, or you see Bill by himself or with their daughter...Interesting Hillary...Do you honesty think Republicans will not pick up on this if you win the nomination?!?

Jay   March 6th, 2008 2:14 pm ET

Home foreclosures are at an all-time high, and Obama chooses to talk about tax returns. What is his plan to help homeowners?

And where are his 20 years worth of tax returns?

Jay   March 6th, 2008 2:13 pm ET

How can asking for a Presidential candidate to do something legal like releasing his/her tax return to prove transparency be bad? Unless the Candidate is hiding something? Do we REALLY trust the Clintons? I guess it depends on what trust is? THe Reps are waiting for Hillary. If the Dems make another stupid mistake, they will miss the WH again.

Missy   March 6th, 2008 2:12 pm ET

There is a multitude of information available... years of it. Believe me, if there were any funny business, the Clinton's would have been tried in court a long time ago.... every tactic has been tried. I don't wait in eager anticipation for the tax returns. I already know the Clintons have a lot of money, are very successful with investments and have done a lot of philanthropic work..... very admirable. The Clintons know that they are under scrutiny at all times.

I just don't think the smoking gun is going to be there. I also hope that donors to some of their very successful charitable organizations don't get drug in to the mud in the process.

Austin   March 6th, 2008 2:12 pm ET

I can't wait till this race is over and I don;t have to see or hear HRC or any of crooked campaign managers. These people are the lowest common denominator of politics. HRC NEVER ANSWERS A SINGLE QUESTION!!!! I don't think she has the capacity to do so.

I used to think she couldn't be elected but I'm afraid she has too many people who owe her favors or money. She'll find a way to lie, cheat, and steal the White House. The DNC should grow a pair and tell her she's done.

Anybody is better than HRC.

X-Man   March 6th, 2008 2:11 pm ET

It's not Obama's turn to run. It's too early for him, he's too young. He's only 46 years old and hasn't even completed one term as senator. And before that he was a state rep. Very little experience with national issues. Hillary might only be in her second term a senator, but she's been right in the midst of national and world issues for years. Just the fact that she's met dozens of world leaders during her tenure as First Lady and senator is worth a great deal. Why couldn't he wait for eight years to get the needed experience. At 54 he would have been a much better candidate for President. He knew when he started this process that Hilary was the presumed nominee.

My level of respect for Camp Clinton has dropped into the negatives at this point. She is running such an incredibly divisive and ugly campaign, how can any self-respecting DEMOCRAT honestly support her?! I fully supported her husband during the whole Ken Starr investigation but let's all be honest here – Ken Starr turned ou to be correct. He had n affair and lied to all of us about it. So, comparng Obama to Ken Starr – is this her way of saying that Obama is telling the truth as well but she is not ready to admit it just yet?

I am very happy to note that Obama is not even listed as a witness for the trial. Mumbles of wrong doing fading fast. He has so much more charisma and dignity versus Clinton. I think he will bounce back quickly and take this thing.

Deborah   March 6th, 2008 2:08 pm ET

Read the facts on Paul v Clinton. This is a civil suit about a guy who claims ex-President Clinton promised to go to work for him because he funded a Gala to honor President Clinton. Most of the charges have been dismissed. There are still some hearings scheduled on the remaining charges which are all CIVIL not criminal. According to the facts of the case, it appears unlikely that any of the charges will stick. This is just another one of those cases where some guy sees an opportunity to cash in at someone elses expense. Also remember the burden of proof in CIVIL cases is much lower than the burden of proof in a CRIMINAL case which is likely the only reason this one is lingering. I really think if ex Pres Clinton was guilty as charged he would have offered a settlement rather than drag this through to trial, so this case is a matter of PRINCIPLE. Rezko on the other hand has been accused of CRIMINAL charges and as yet it is not clear what, if any, bearing this may have on Senator Obama as we will have to let the facts of the case unfold. Although I think it would behoove Senator Obama to release an independent accounting of any contributions that can be attributed to Mr. Rezko and their subsequent distribution to charities in the interest of transparency.

Vic   March 6th, 2008 2:08 pm ET

As a senior retiree, we've had the opportunity to watch these two candidates, their campaign spokespeople, and the news entities (TV and print) almost non-stop. Here's what we've observed:

1) Obama and Hillary coverage has NOT been equal. Example: In today's Houston Chronicle, two noted columnists, Robert Novak and David Broder, wrote about a Q&A session Obama participated in last Monday in which he was quizzed about his aide's statement concerning Obama's stand on the Canada/NAFTA as being like this: "It's just politics; nothing will come of it." At first Obama and camp denied such a statement took place, then were forced to admit it was true. Novak stated that after 7 questions, "Obama left the podium." Broder said "he bolted from the stage." My question is WHY HAS THIS NOT BEEN REPORTED BY TV NEWS CHANNELS?

2) The repetitive statement about the Michigan and Florida votes, which goes likie this: HILLARY CLINTON'S NAME WAS THE ONLY ONE ON MICHIGAN BALLOTS.

HER NAME AND OBAMA'S NAME WERE BOTH ON THE FLORIDA PRIMARY BALLOTS - "but HE did NOT campaign there." This leaves us lay people to believe that Hillary DID campaign there (against the rules).

TRUTH: Hillary Clinton did NOT campaign in Florida but got the most votes by considerable margins. After the polls, she visited Florida AFTER THE POLLS CLOSED and made a thank-you speech. If the stories are to be believed, Obama DID run an ad there, also appearing after the polls closed.

CNN has corrected its error about the caucus votes, but I wish all news folks would report EVERYTHING that makes news.

Earl   March 6th, 2008 2:08 pm ET

I thought Obama was "above" the negative potitics.

What a sham this guy is! The longer he is in this contest and the more adversity he faces, he crumbles. Just like in the debates.

This guy really is the Emperor who has no clothes!

Jay   March 6th, 2008 2:07 pm ET

Howard Wolfson , Americans are not stupid! You want Ken Starr's name in the race to win sympathy for Hillary, right? It wont fly. Hillary IS the one running and just like the other cnadidates she must release her tax returns AND the records that prove her so-called experience – the WH memos in the Clinton Presidential Library especially after cricizng Lazio of not releasing his. Who were the donors to the Clinton Library? How many people did Bill pardon when he was leaving the WH? What type of crimes did they commit? Now we are remembering.........Ken Starr ?? I wouldn't open that can of worms if I was you, Howard Wolfson.

Ratgurl   March 6th, 2008 2:07 pm ET

You know, we could all just move on if HRC would just release the tax returns. They don't even have to be processed, just show us your 1040. We'll figure out the rest for ourselves!

Oh, & John Dolan, those records are public, you can just go to the city of Chicago's tax auditor and obtain them yourself if you want to see them so bad! While you're at it, make a copy & publicize them. Then we can get past all this BS & get on with the election process.

RSP, he probably can't handle answering to THAT woman specifically. (Could you?)

And thank you, Maisie2008, for stating the obvious.

Mark   March 6th, 2008 2:07 pm ET

Hillary Clinton can never win the Presidency of the United States. She would lose in a blow out in an general election.

Sam Texas   March 6th, 2008 2:07 pm ET

I used to defend the Clintons during the Ken Starr saga but now I wish he had thrown the bum in jail for lying to the American people. Billary is the worst package for America right now. Sleek Willy is nothing more than a snake oil salesman and the Republicans have a lot of mud to throw at this shameless duo. I can see the Mccain camp salivating over the opportunity to run against Billary!

Goodheart   March 6th, 2008 2:07 pm ET

Obama is in with the Republicans. Despite his campaign speeches, the reality is he is practicing the politics of usual right out of the Republican playbook. Go Hillary!

Mark Poor   March 6th, 2008 2:07 pm ET

I guess people in our country have really short memories when they vote for Clintons.

In 2000, right before leaving the office President Clinton pardoned Marc Rich, a famous tax evader, oil trader with the enemy (Iran) and a fugitive to Switzerland. The IRS and FBI badly wanted him for years and Presidetnt Clinton simply pardoned him, while Rich's wife Denise made substantial donations to the Clinton library and to Hillary’s senate campaign.

Recently, President Clinton has helped a controversial uranium dealer Frank Giustra to secure one of the largest uranium contracts in Kazakhstan through his connections with Kazakh President Nazarbaev, who has been known for civil rights violations and his never ending presidency. In exchange, Mr. Giustra raised about $21 million for the Clinton Foundation.

Now that explains why Clintons would not disclose their tax returns. Although I doubt that they tell IRS about all their income. Moreover, Clinton Foundation, which they use as a financial vehicle for their campaign, is a separate legal entity and is not recorded on Clinton’s personal tax returns.

Cali   March 6th, 2008 2:07 pm ET

For the Clinton campaign to bring up Ken Starr is a dangerous move. I'm sure they didn't realize they have just reminded the public about the Clintons personal problems and impeachment issue during their WH years.

Upstate Deb your statement is interesting: " Unless she is doing something so highly illegal in obtaining her income, give it a rest.."
The candidates' personal income or how much they earn is not and has never been the issue. Most people know that if a person is running for office, the public has a right to immediately see this information so they know that candidates are not involved in anything illegal. The obvious question the public has is why is Senator Clinton the ONLY candidate still side-stepping and delaying her release, months after both Obama and McCain released theirs? I even hear this question from people who have yet to decide who they will vote for, both Republicans and Democrats. The public will continue to have an issue with Senator Clinton on this matter. As an obvious avid Clinton supporter, it's very interesting that you don't.

reggymack   March 6th, 2008 2:05 pm ET

If Hillary would of kept the campaign positive none of these questions would of came up. Obama had no choice but to start questioning some of Hillary's activities. I can't under stand how Hillary supporters are calling Obama desperate when it was Hillary who started this mess. Please explain to me how you can call a man that won 12 states in a roll and 13 out of the last 16 states desperate. You can't . He is still ahead you know. He is just fighting fire with fire. So shame on you Clinton supporters for being so blind.

tasi   March 6th, 2008 2:05 pm ET

lois in ca: are you running for President? It is common practice to provide your tax returns – to be transparent – she and her husband have ties to the middle east saudis, to the chinese fundraisers, etc, etc... who built her husband's library, where did the 5 million come from? We have a right to know these things as citizens if she wants to be president – we don't want her paying off her benefactors in contracts to Iraq like in the case of Haliburton.

Timothy   March 6th, 2008 2:05 pm ET

how can anyone here or obama for that matter even bring up candidate you can "trust" when obama just lied about the NAFTA dealings with canada - he can't even run his own campaign and know who from his campaign is meeting with who it honestly makes no sense at all that the same guy (obama) who joined forces with edwards in a debate about calling clinton out for "double talk" and not being trustworthy would then turn around and lie about his NAFTA positioning i mean GET A CLUE

Francie   March 6th, 2008 2:04 pm ET

Stop the complaining.

The DREAM TIcket is:

Hillary/Obama 08

Ed, Santa Fe, NM   March 6th, 2008 2:04 pm ET

and from Hillary headquarters: "Our point here is to point out that after a campaign in which many of the questions that voters had in the closing days centered on concerns that they had over his state of preparedness to be commander in chief and steward of the economy, he has chosen instead of addressing those issues to attack Senator Clinton," Wolfson told reporters in a conference call. "They've announced that this is what they are going to do.

HILLARY THE VICTIM.... she's been slinging mud throughout the campaign, yapping about her "experience" without giving any examples, and then when cries foul any questions are raised about her.

Hillary has resorted to Bush tactics of lies, innuendo, fear mongering, and non-substantive gum yapping.

WHAT THE HELL IS HER EXPERIENCE? Her experience at this point is about as clear as her tax returns and White House papers.

Hillary is another Bush.

Deep Throat   March 6th, 2008 2:03 pm ET

MEMO to Obama:

Subject: ROLL UP YOUR SLEEVES AND LET HILLARY HAVE IT

How to accomplish this:

-35 years of experience (question this in detail)
- Her early years as Republican advocate
- Her tax returns
- Her vote to wage war on Iraq (really nail her)
- Peter Paul fraud
- White Water
- Bill Clinton's women/scandals where was she? (this will close the deal)

Chris   March 6th, 2008 2:03 pm ET

Updated | 12:45 p.m.: Peter Daou, the Clinton campaign’s internet director, offered up some additional details on fund-raising since Tuesday.
Since polls closed on Tuesday through noon today, the campaign has brought in $4 million from 40,000 donors, 30,000 of them new to the campaign.

Dating from March 1, the campaign has raised $6 million, a rate of about a million dollars a day.
For anyone looking to make an apples-to-apples comparison of 24-hour periods after Tuesday’s results, the campaign collected $3 million from midnight that night to midnight the following day.

Jazz   March 6th, 2008 2:03 pm ET

He had her down. He will regret not getting her out. Talk about the name game. Ken Starr is persona non grata in faithful democratic circles. They believed he was WRONG at the time. Starr has since PUBLICLY stated he was WRONG to persecute aah prosecute the Clintons. Talk about a UNITER. That name is one of the biggest.
Talk about trying to OVERTURN the WILL of the people....

It's politics It's all in the game. If you give people a "blank screen",
don't be surprised when you get an UGLY picture back.
Real Democrats Don't Quit!!!!

Adrian   March 6th, 2008 2:02 pm ET

Guys or gals, it takes time to get all the tax returns together, doesn't it? Can't you wait around Apr. 15th before PA primary to have her tax return? She already promised to release it, right? Why is Obama making such a fuss about it? He has lost his coolness.

pj   March 6th, 2008 2:02 pm ET

this just proves she cant take any criticism and can not go toe to toe with the republicans.

Sarah   March 6th, 2008 2:01 pm ET

Considering obama and team are congering up phony speculations (and of course the media is going to his dirty work) all I have to say is WHERE IS THE INDICTMENTS? Didn't think so.

GO HILLARY!!

susan   March 6th, 2008 2:01 pm ET

Kim, did you really read what you wrote. Obama supporters are the worst, to the point of calling people uneducated. You could spend alot of time going back thru these letters and find a whole lotta nasty letters from the Obama supporters.
Please pay attention

Ellen   March 6th, 2008 2:01 pm ET

Hillary, you've been acting like an angry monkey throwing feces, and now that you have been asked to explain your 35 years of experience and come forward with your tax returns, and white house records, seems you feel you have been attacked viciously. "Give me a break." How will you ever handle the republican attacks, if you think when someone questions the basis for your comments, that makes the like Star? You are so dishonest about everything. You cannot be trusted, and you can only finish this with more support (delegates) than Obama, if you do better than 60/40 wins in the remaining 10 states, including Guam and Puerto Rico. You are a nasty person for staying in, because you are misleading your supporters, who love you, but don't really know you. Show a shread of decency by bowing out before you take so many with you. Just try to think about someone other than yourself. Just go for the good of our party and more importantly our country.

Jack from California   March 6th, 2008 2:00 pm ET

WHO besides the Obama people care about Hillary's tax returns! BARRACK get back to the campaign and give us specifics on how YOU propose to fix America!

BARRACK – how are you going to bring the republicans to the table to give us their gains under 8 years of George and Company?

BARRACK – how are you going to balance the BUDGET?

BARRACK – how are you going to get the ECONOMY moving?

BARRACK – how are you going to add American JOBS?

BARRACK – TELL us what YOU are going to DO!

WE DON'T CARE HOW MUCH MONEY HILLARY PAID TO THE IRS! I DON'T EVEN CARE HOW MUCH YOU PAID TO THE IRS BARRACK!

I WANT TO KNOW HOW YOU propose to get the RICH to pay their "FAIR SHARE" of our country's "BILLS"

ANSWERS BARRACK – OR GO BACK HOME!

VOTE HILLARY CLINTON

Connie Ont. Canada   March 6th, 2008 2:00 pm ET

It seems that people (and the media) forget that Obama sent out letters to households in Ohio with his interpretation of Hillary's involvement on NAFTA. That was the start of Hillary making him accountable.

In every speech he always makes sure he comments on Hillary's supporting of NAFTA. and that she voted for the war. ?? He is very careful at throwing shots. That way he does not appear too negative.

This has been her time to hold him accountable for his actions.

She is the best qualified.

Independant   March 6th, 2008 2:00 pm ET

Obama as Clinton’s running mate? Ha!! Hillary is the one who says Obama is not qualified or ready to be president. The VP is second in command.

Sarah   March 6th, 2008 1:59 pm ET

The one that has been shown to be hiding something is obama, he hasn't answered the questions about his financial dealings on rezko. Hillary doesn't have to file taxes until April 15, and none of you are anyone to say other wise, neither is obama.

I want to know what is going to come out with the rezko trial, ayers, and the iraqi businessmen.

so while obama is wasting time and the media again aren't doin their job where obama is concerned, we are all waiting.

Lisa in Memphis   March 6th, 2008 1:59 pm ET

Lois in Ca: Are you KIDDING me??? HC has been accused of financial misdealings for decades! And it is common practice for presidential candidates to release these records. If a person doesn't want to release those personal records, they shouldn't run for president.

Emily Coletta   March 6th, 2008 1:58 pm ET

Obviously she hiding something. She taking money from drug companies-that's why she's pushing mandatory healthcare.

rr   March 6th, 2008 1:58 pm ET

He is asking to see the income tax in order to pull attention away from him and Rezko. I thought Obama was interested in what is best for the nation....the economy, the war, immigration etc. Now he's showing he is no better than the rest of the political world. Stop, think....How does a senator with no experience that has shady friends climb the ladder so fast? And why is he preaching, if he couldn't afford such an expensive house, why did he buy it? Isn't he also not living within his means? How many people are lined up waiting for him to become President so he can scratch their backs for helping him climb to the top.

JC   March 6th, 2008 1:58 pm ET

Brian, Ohio   March 6th, 2008 1:57 pm ET

Stop with the "it's not April 15th yet blah blah" garbage.

It's not her 2007 tax returns they are asking for, its her 2006! returns. The ones she filed LAST YEAR! Make a copy and release them. ALL the other candidates did LONG ago. She's clearly hiding something since she knows she will have to release them at some point, it's not a privacy issue. She's been putting it off and putting it off. First she said "March 5th or maybe earlier". Then it was "on April 15th". Now its "around April 15th" When we get to April 15th it will be some other line so that she doesn't have to release it till after April 22nd and the Pennsylvania primary.

They've already stalled for a year now to release her schedule from the white house showing her "experience". They've filed to have her phone logs held for another YEAR, pushing it past the November Election.

When will people learn they are lying cheats?

joseph   March 6th, 2008 1:56 pm ET

Thabo Mda   March 6th, 2008 1:55 pm ET

By comparing Barack Obama to Kenneth Starr simply because he is demanding the release of Hillary's latest tax returns as well as other documents related to her years as first lady, the Clinton campaign is in fact engaging in an effort to cow Obama into silence through their usual intimidatory tactics which have worked for them in the past and must not be allowed to work this time. While this invocation of Starr's name further crystallizes the desperation that underlies Hillary's attempt to suppress the release of the documents in question at all cost and whatever it takes, even if it means tagging further smears on his opponents. With this in mind, furthermore, it cannot be in doubt that they are -for all intents and purposes- bringing into public discourse (wittingly or unwittingly) the spector of the Clinton scandals. The Clintons campaign have no one else to blame but themselves for implicitly and indirectly bringing up that sad chapter of American history that will without question be a furtile ground for invevitable Republican attacks

Kathy from Michigan   March 6th, 2008 1:55 pm ET

Speaking of witness lists! In the appeal of this Clinton Fraud case, the possible witness list could be all of her political and business buddies. I don't think the Clintons saw this coming. The timing is horrible, right around the general election. As badly as dislike her for the office, I feel worse that it is going to make the party look like a bunch of crooks. Obama is not in one place named in the Toni Rezko trial. Bill and Hillary are the Defendants in this fraud case!!! The appeal is coming. This judge is not a Bill Clinton appointee. Its happening. They are taking depositons now! It is not over. I only wish that it was.

Mel   March 6th, 2008 1:54 pm ET

Joka007   March 6th, 2008 1:54 pm ET

BAYOU JOE Please do not lump all hispanics as we all love Hillary. I am Hispanic I live in NYC and I hate her. She has done nothing for NYC or the state of NY except bring her scandal ridden name to the state. The only reason she won NY was because of her husband which is the only reason why she can even run for presidency. She has failed on every issue she has tried to change. I wonder how many lobbiest are blowing money up her u know what.

Derrick   March 6th, 2008 1:54 pm ET

Who cares about her tax returns? Is her tax returns going to base her decisions on how she will lead this country?

This is just another feeble attempt by the Obama camp to smear the Clinton's again. Obama needs to keep his eye on the ball because the Clinton Machine has started and there in NO WAY of turning it off!

Obama had better focus on the REAL issue and SOLUTIONS to this country and his campaign.

Obama is driving his bus (campaign) into a canyon!!!

YES WE WILL!

Bayou Joe   March 6th, 2008 1:54 pm ET

you Obamaites have no respect for our former First Lady and patriotic American, Hillary Clinton. Don't put her Husband's follys on her lap.
This shows how ignorant you all are.

Will   March 6th, 2008 1:54 pm ET

Obama is a fine gentleman, but he does not have the experience. What the pundits speak of when they talk experience is really political currency. Hill has it and Obama does not. Hill knows where the bodies are buried, she has been horse trading with the GOP for years, even as first lady. Obama runs the risk of being the next Jimmy Carter.

SP, Albany, NY   March 6th, 2008 1:53 pm ET

Americans with no vision are all fools, fearful of a new way of life in this dull and boring political ring we call a democracy. They cannot entertain the thought of new and fresh ideas from an unsullied candidate such as Sen. Obama. He is a gentleman, a scholar, and a diplomat, while his opponent is sneaky and cut-throat – it's in her conjugal DNA. So, good luck to everyone who intends to enjoy 8 more years of dirty tactics, making it a 28 year Bush-Clinton dynasty. Instead of going forward we are reverting back to pre-revolutionary times. She won't be happy until she slaughters her opponent and hangs him out to dry – fraternity hazing tactics at their finest. Sickening!

David   March 6th, 2008 1:53 pm ET

nice try Hillary and company, but you're morons. anything to deflect while you employ the same tactics.

Bed Ro   March 6th, 2008 1:53 pm ET

Cnn has now become the Clintons News Net work. It is very obvious now how bias their reports are. They only give good info on the Clintons and bad news on Obama. I wonder who told them to do this.

Praetorian, Fort Myers   March 6th, 2008 1:52 pm ET

He may not be on the witness list...he may be on the list of accomplices or complicitor's to Rezko's activities.

Besides–the current Grand Jury may not be for anything that Obama may have been tied to.

But since Rezko's such a rat–don't be suprised if Obama–and other high level politicians in Illinois are implicated. This rat won't go down the river alone.

The facts please.   March 6th, 2008 1:52 pm ET

Everyone wants a fair process which plays by the rules. The fact is that Hillary may have won big states. The fact is that Obama won more states. The fact is that Obama has more delegates than Hillary. The fact is that Michigan and Florida cannot seat it's delegates. The fact is that if Hillary wins the remaining primaries, the way the delegates are partioned out Obama will still lead in delegates. The fact is that Obama will be the Democratic nominee. Just the facts folks. I know it hurts.

Adam-Atl. GA   March 6th, 2008 1:51 pm ET

In all seriousness, what does Obama's campaign think will be uncovered by releasing Clinton's tax returns? How is this relevant to whether a candidate is qualified for the Presidency? Seems as if Obama's campaign is really reaching here. He should worry about addressing the NAFTA situation as well as his ability to go "toe-to-toe" with McCain on national security.

Ken Frederiksen   March 6th, 2008 1:51 pm ET

There is an old adage that says that he/she who throws the first blow is merely admitting that they have run out of rational arguments for their point of view. The act, timing and desperation of Hillary throwing the first blow also says that she cares more about her winning than the Democratic Party taking back the White House for the good of the nation. It is very telling.

Shane   March 6th, 2008 1:51 pm ET

TO all Democrats. I am the kind of democrat who is not desperately fir Clinton or Obama. Though I find Obama leading a higher ground in this political narrative. I am nto sure what Clinton is trying to do. But regardless of whatever happens.

We have to see the maths. We cannot believe in Huckabee's mircale. It didn't work out for him and it won't work out for Mrs. Clinton. Everyone from Clinton camp is trying to overshadow the mere fact of delegate maths. Even if we give all the states to Clinton from now on it will be impossible for her to overtake Obama on elected delegates, unless she wins with over 65% of vote.

At last it would look much more fair and democratic for DNC and superdelegates to nominate Obama than Clinton. The ideas of political pundits and MSM regarding Clinton machine and comeback is just BS. Media is just doubling their profit from this dog fight.

PS: Counting both Florida & Michigan is not going to dent the delegate lead for Obama. Clinton missed their flight during the month of Feb.

Steve in Albuquerque, NM   March 6th, 2008 1:51 pm ET

Obama hasn't sidestepped anything. He has been thoroughly vetted on Rezko a long time ago, and the NAFTA/Canada thing has been explained by the Obama campaign and refuted by the Canadian government.

So now, fair is fair. Where are the tax returns? Where are the White House documents? Where is the list of Clinton Library donors?

Hillary can donate $5mil to her campaign but can't get her taxes done. Riiiiiight.

Josephine from Canada   March 6th, 2008 1:51 pm ET

I can' t believe the media, CNN in particular was so bias the last few days before tuesday's election. Obama would have pounched the Clinton out by now if not for the fact that the media give the public false information about NAFTA. The media failed to confirmed this allegation against Obama before airing it. No TV ever said that the Canadian Gov. denied the above allegation. Was the media trying to compensate Hillary because of her acussation that Obama was getting more attention than her? Any way The Canadian gov. has lunched a full inqury into the allegation. Everybody around the globle are watching this election. So media make no mistake to tip the outcome of this primary. Obama is not only ready but also right from day one. Who wants the clintion back in the White House? Noooooobody. And by the way where 's Hillary tax return? Is the media going after her?

AnyoneButHillary   March 6th, 2008 1:50 pm ET

Can someone from CNN please explain it ALL the voters around this country – How can CNN or any media for that matter flash the entire web page with Senator Clinton's picture and claim that her wins on March 4th is a HUGE victory. She said "MEET ME IN TEXAS, MEET ME IN OHIO" and what not to Senator Obama and claimed that those states are custom made for her and yet win JUST 10 EXTRA DELEGATES than Senator Obama.
Did Hillary Clinton scare you folks with her "pro-obama media" comment?

JB   March 6th, 2008 1:50 pm ET

Upstate Deb... you can't really be serious? If it came out that the Clinton's were doing business say, with businesses known to support terrorist groups, you think it's just their private business? Obama has been nothing but upfront about all his personal financial dealings(including the Rezco deal) whereas Clinton has been obfuscating. If nothing else her approach gives the perception that she is hiding something. If she has nothing to hide then she should be forthcoming about all her dealings...

MD   March 6th, 2008 1:50 pm ET

Now the game is on, LET'S ALL GET OUR POPCORN READY.......

I think Hillary team didn't expect Obama to question them and they thought to use his positive approach to their advantage and run over him. My friends use to say that you can't survive the Illinois politics without being tough.

I agree, Obama has every right to question Hillary's experience and credentials. That is not a negative attack.

I think the more Hillary hides her tax returns and white house schedules (experience?), she will get lot ot scrutiny from the voters and the press.....I think she didn't expect this to come.....

M.   March 6th, 2008 1:50 pm ET

What's going on here?...1st of all, Obama doesn't have to imitate anyone, least of all Ken Starr...Clinton needs to order a gag on her spokespeople...Can't imagine why any Clinton people would ever want to invoke the name of Ken Starr...You know, this tactic is pretty transparent and I'm seriously reconsidering my support for Clinton.

Obama Supporter   March 6th, 2008 1:50 pm ET

All excuses by Hillary!!!!

She has been campaigning from more than an year and if she wanted to she could have started the work on publishing the tax returns and her work in the white house long time back. Only people who want to hide or manipulate take time and thats what we expect from her. She has done nothing when she was in White House ..... and claims to be experienced.

On FL and MI delegates, she didn't have a problem when DNC took the decision to not seat them, because at that time she was presuming that she is the front runner. But now the equation has changed and she has a problem of catching up with the delegate count and as if she is touched that these state people's voice have not been heard. Where were you when they were not heard till now?

She says we need a Clinton to clean up Bush, I would say only one Clinton is enough for White House, No more room for another Clinton :)

Go Obama Go ..... Cheap politics from Hillary will not stop you

David   March 6th, 2008 1:50 pm ET

Excuse me – how long are the major networks going to sit on this story about Clinton's "grain of salt" involvement in NAFTAgate?

TRUTHSEEKER   March 6th, 2008 1:50 pm ET

HRC and Bill should know that Barack is nothing like the Kent Starr impeachment trial. She just wants someone to feel sorry for her, and is putting on this victim act to try to avoid giving out of releasing her tax returns or anything else. This "pity party" is a sham, and if there is nothing to hide ..make the documents public. She seems a lot like the Bush administration....in that they always trys to divert the attention from their wrong doing, by making an acusation directed at you. pathetic !

Kim   March 6th, 2008 1:49 pm ET

you Obama supporters are going to make your candidate lose this election, your vicious hateful attitude is going to turn everyone off, you have got to reel yourselves in, it's either one of two things, you are all immature kids or you are grown fools, whatever it is, you better take a step back and realize what you are doing, if he is nominated, you WILL cost him the votes of those who support Clinton, you all probably don't even pay taxes, taxes are complicated enough when it's just you and regular income, but it has to be much more when you have large amounts of income and investments, she said it will be released on April 15th so fuss after that point. Obama needs to stop crying and acting like a grown kid.

ben   March 6th, 2008 1:49 pm ET

Seriously Hill, how long does it take to bring your tax returns to kinko's and run off a few copies? Better yet have your accountant scan and e-mail in a pdf. This is her intentionally dragging her feet. She'll release when/if she's the nominee? So democrats voting in the primary don't deserve total disclosure to make an informed decision? Tell ya what Hill, I'll donate $25 to your campaign if you promise to spend it at your local Kinko's.

MANDY   March 6th, 2008 1:48 pm ET

The question of the tax returns, and the reason they are important, is because she LOANED HER CAMPAIGN $5 million!

Where did the money for her campaign come from?

And her postponement is a hoot since they are asking for 2006 tax returns not 2007 (which most of us have not completed!).

Maybe they didn't file their 2006 tax returns?

RVKW   March 6th, 2008 1:48 pm ET

George W. won the white house on his last name. We see where that got us. Do we want to make the same mistake again with Clinton? Let's start fresh and end this Bush-Clinton "monarchy" and vote -

OBAMA!!!!!

The Bush family had a chance to prove themselves and the Clintons had a chance to prove themselves and America is in a deep hole...Do we want to waste another 8 years giving the Clintons another go at it?

We have an opportunity to start fresh....we finally have a voice in Barack Obama who will finally allow the American people, the people who dwell in this great nation, the people that walk the soil of this earch everyday, the people who's hard earned money goes into building this country, to do things the way they should've always been done!

Miguel   March 6th, 2008 1:47 pm ET

Hillary Clinton is a typical spoiled rich brat, who when she doesn't get her way she starts yelling at everyone else around her instead of taking responsibility for her own doings. If you have nothing to hide Hillary then just release your taxes. What's the big deal?

Mike in Ohio   March 6th, 2008 1:47 pm ET

Kim, Obama gets blasted by the Hillary REPORTERS. Please. SNL embarrased CNN and MSNBC into REAL media bias against Obama. In the same episode, they did an amos and andy skit about Obama having secret plans with Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson. MSM is now afraid of the Clinton "kneecappers" and will fall in line. And by the way, did you hear that the whole NAFTAgate story? it was the CLINTON supporters who did the ole wink and nod, and her camp flat out LIED to smear Obama two days before the primary. We don't hear any part of that do we? The Media is trying to feed us Hillary as our nominee. Say hello to President McCain.

Amy, Kazoo   March 6th, 2008 1:47 pm ET

That's reaching a little, Howard. I mean, I support Clinton, but Obama is no Starr.

This whole primary is starting to make my head spin

Ed, Santa Fe, NM   March 6th, 2008 1:47 pm ET

The very FACT that Hillary won't release tax returns and White House papers is a pretty strong indicator that she's hiding something. Hillary is a Bush ally; maybe her papers and tax returns are all missing like Bush's emails. Hillary is a Bush is she's clothing!

Vote no to the ongoing Bush/Clinton coalition.

EFabian   March 6th, 2008 1:46 pm ET

Poor Obama.

Hillary is too tough for him but her campaign raises valid points, she IS releasing this info to the public so Obama needs to address his issues more since he has been exposed as being all rhetoric and no substance. Even one of his advisors stated on national TV that he IS NOT ready for that 3:00am call. Too funny but at least she was honest.

ebc   March 6th, 2008 1:46 pm ET

Sen. Clinton needs to remember one fact. Numbers don't lie, you could spin it any way you want, but still the numbers don't lie. The elders always say "be careful what you ask for because you just may get MORE than you bargained for"..

I think the 3 wins has gone to their heads, but let's come back to earth. The Clinton camp still has to beat the numbers.... so when they do that, then they truly have the right to BRAG.

Who brags after having lost 11 losts? She's dam lucky to win 3 last Tuesday...let's not get too snippy because the Battle has just begun....and like she said "she's just getting started."

Well guess what so is Sen. Obama and all is fair in love and war!!!

Let's see if Sen. Clinton can take a dose of her own medicine shall we?

C.K. Steele   March 6th, 2008 1:45 pm ET

Why won’t Hillary make her tax returns public? How about the 2006 Tax Returns at least then? The answer is simple—the money is dirty. You will see Dubai and countless other unsavory contributions from some questionable foreign excursions by Fmr. Pres. Clinton. Clinton supporters, is that really ok? Do you really want the specter of foreign influences hanging over the presidency?

Hillary has the endorsements of a ton of flag officers (generals). For those who may not know, general or general equivalent (admiral) is the only rank that can only be achieved with the recommendation of the President and an act of Congress. Colonel is as high as you can go without the Commander-in-Chief’s endorsement. The President has to make the recommendation and then the 100 members of the Senate have to approve it in order to make general. Now use your brains and figure out under whose admistration that the majority of these generals were commissioned. Pres. Clinton called in a favor and of course these generals have no problem in standing behind the wife of the man who advanced their careers. Don’t take my word for it, look it up and see the truth for yourselves, Clinton supporters. Instead why don’t you look at the enlisted men and the retired enlisted men and ask them who they support to be the Commander-in-Chief? Barack wins that argument hands down. Go to your nearest military installation or follow the campaign contributions.

Why have Hillary’s Whitehouse records been sealed and buried? The answer here is very simple. Bill didn’t give her credit for many of the things that she is now falsely claiming and there was NO co-presidency. Sen. Clinton had NO security clearance and is misstating her record there. She has made claims of having something to do with the Irish peace process and other platitudes. Not true. Sure she has had dinner with Jerry Andrews and some of SEINFENN but her diplomatic role there is non-existent. Again, just do your research.
I welcome anyone to dispute these statements. Eventually the truth always comes to light.

manlius   March 6th, 2008 1:45 pm ET

For the record, Obama is calling on Clinton to release her 2006 tax returns, which presumably were filed LAST April. There is no good reason for her to hold off on making these public until April 15 of 2008. And for those who ask if the law requires this, I think the answer is no. BUT it has been a longstanding tradition (several decades old) for presidential candidates to make their tax returns public. So Hillary - why the dodge?

Clinton's Texas Myth   March 6th, 2008 1:44 pm ET

For those of you still claiming Texas, 8% of the vote Hillary received was from republicans???? This 8% makes up the 3% that she beat Obama by in the primaries...do the Math.

That means that approximately 100,000 votes came from people who HATE her and know that McCain will MOP THE FLOOR W/HER IN THE FALL.

Now who is deluting themselves. She CAN'T win and the fact that she is willing to break up the party so she feels better speaks volumes to her LACK of character.

I keep saying, she would make a good veep, but still has a lot to learn from the junior senator from Illinois.

LET'S SEE IF THIS GETS POSTED...

t   March 6th, 2008 1:44 pm ET

Obama is running for the president of this country. He should show his toughness. He should QUESTION Hillary's credentials and experience. He has all the right to question her of everything she says and WE ALL AGREE THAT SHOULD NOT BE VIEWED AS NEGATIVE ATTACK.

We all want to see about both candidates. In the past few days, we have heard the questions from the Hillary side. Now I want Hillary to show me her credentials - 35 years of "real" experience? tax returns? Her White house schedules? her ties with donors?

That's fair for the people to know. I personally think, if Obama starts questioning her instead of being a "bunny", she will be in deep trouble as she has lots and lots of bad stuff to hide. Let's see.....

John   March 6th, 2008 1:43 pm ET

I agree with Kathy from Michigan above. But Kathy, the Paul v. Clinton case largely involves her. If I am not mistaken, she may have recently been removed as a defendant, but the judge is going to subpoena her and make her testify under oath as a witness. The evidence that is available thus far looks awful for her. I don't see how she can not be guilty of this. But although this case spans back to her Senate race, her not wanting to release current tax returns may have something to with this case. Now folks think about this. We hear nothing about this case and it is a FRAUD case pending against the Clintons. FRAUD! Why do we not hear anything about this? I think it is because 1) Republicans own these media channels although they try to portray them as liberal, and 2) they are making sure it gets no press until Clinton wins the nomination. Then it will a firestorm. She better get used to Ken Starr.

Hillary and her campaign folks are filthy Bush-like liars. Her campaign tactics are disgusting, demeaning, and prove she is not worthy to be president. Rather than stress her strengths in the battle with Obama, all she can do is sling mud, ross out innuendo, and engage in fear mongering worth of Bush. She thinks she is showing how tough she is, but all she's proving is that she's a power hungry and hypocritical politician.

Hillary VOTED for the Bush War in Iraq. Is this part of her "lifetime of experience"? As catchy a phrase and as empty as Bush's cry of WMD in Iraq. Her "lifetime of experience" has little more substance than Laura Bush's or Mamie Eisenhower's.

Hillary is a LOSER no matter what happens. Look beyond your egomania, Hillary.

Peter S, Georgia   March 6th, 2008 1:40 pm ET

Mr. Obama's whole campaign is premised on his being the' high roader'
usherer of a new era of politics in place of the 'usual Wahington type'
politics. Why now resort to accusations irrelevant to vital issues facing the nation and mud throwing. If he continues this he will have no credibility left. Already the tall and flowery rhetoric, his storng suite are loosing their charm on the public.

barb   March 6th, 2008 1:40 pm ET

Accusing Obama of a Ken Starr strategy? Amazing! What kind of cuthroat tactics have the Clinton camp used? Hillary has rejoiced in her ability to ruin and purposely misrepresent her opponent with a degrading and exquisiretly timed smear campaign just before Tuesday. She knows the art of dirty politics and my respect for her has been lost. I would have considered an Obama/Clinton ticket as a good thing, due to her brilliant knowledge. Obama can unite the country though and she can't. He should be front and center. Now I hope that when Obama is nominated, he will choose Edwards or Dodd as running mate. Go Obama!

Third voice   March 6th, 2008 1:40 pm ET

Does anyone know whether Clinton campaign is linked to Canadian's NAFTA memo? I would not be surprised at anything. The memo was made up by Canadians who publizied it willingly and then retreacted it. It came out the day before Tuesday voting. Isn't it too convinent?

Anonymous   March 6th, 2008 1:39 pm ET

What is astounding is that she has NOT disclosed her tax returns to date.. Obama has. She attacked her opponent in 2000 for failing to have her tax returns scrutinized but now says..... we have in the past. Good do it again.

She contributed $5 million dollars to her campaign right after Super Tuesday and why has no one asked..... where did a public servant with no accumulated personal wealth get $5 million dollars to lend her campaign?

Grant   March 6th, 2008 1:39 pm ET

The public needs to start asking questions of the Clintons and what is really going on here? My first question is where did they get the $4M cash to buy the mansion in upstate NY in 2001 so she could say she is a resident of New York and then strong armed all the competitors to vacate there chances. Who else would walk in the last minute and claim a Senate seat nomination in a state she does not even live in? They view themselves as the Royal Family of the Dems. I tell ya, Karl Rove and the Rep machine is going to have a field day with the Clintons

OMG   March 6th, 2008 1:39 pm ET

What is Hillary afraid of? To compare Obama to Ken Starr is so totally absurd and out of bounds, that I think there must be some very damaging information in those returns.

WHat else could anyone possibly think? We do know that she earned almost $12M last year(according to her Senate disclosures), but we don't know the source of her income. Obviously, she doesn't want anyone to know. Why?

Senator Sleaze   March 6th, 2008 1:39 pm ET

Clinton = Senator Sleaze... Welcome to the mudslinging.

People really give Karl Rove too much credit... He was a nobody until the mid-90's, when he copied the CLINTON playbook and got GWB elected. Now we're again seeing the "masters" at work ,attacking where they're weak (seriously, HRC is attacking on ethics and transparency?).

nellie   March 6th, 2008 1:38 pm ET

as a canadian, i really feel sad for clinton supporters. One would think as a leader she would inspire positive change, but instead she has taught her staff the same lies she has lived by. If i were a mother i would worry about the youth in her campaign, because as a role model , what is she teaching them. The last week was so negative for her oponent and that is why she won. Washington machine politics won the day, the old way of politics.
Some clinton suppoters resigned from her campaign after sending out emails they knew were wrong, but since it could not sit well on their conscience, they resigned. If any clinton supporter has integrity, why are you defending the fact that she has not release her returns for 2005, 2006? ......why support the fact that she has not released her library papers..why as a supporter dont you ask your selves the same questions?
Obama delaings with rezco so far have not shown anything to doubt his integrity...and he has donated more than $85 000 from any rezco support to other charities...
well what about clinton? Why the delay. She has not even started requesting for her white house papers..as a clinton supporter, why dont you ask why..ratehr than immediately write desparate....
and yes, finally, please google clinton scandals .com/..then ask your selves why you are supporting this candidate....the republicans can hardly wait to tear her apart....she is not immune..

"U.S. Sen. Barack Obama expressed regret late Friday for his 2005 land purchase from now-indicted political fundraiser Antoin "Tony" Rezko in a deal that enlarged the senator's yard."

Pennsylvania Polls   March 6th, 2008 1:37 pm ET

Another big state talks:

Pennsylvania
Dem Primary:
Clinton 52%
Obama 37%

Martin Grondin   March 6th, 2008 1:37 pm ET

I keep seeing "Obama is desperate."

1.) He fully disclosed his own and has called on Clinton to release hers long before his losses in Texas and Ohio.
2.) Clinton SHOULD release them. She is going into the highest office in the country and American's deserve to know where her income is earned.
3.) Instead of simply releasing the tax information she has dodged and weaved around the question. Comparing Obama to Ken Starr? Really? That's absolutely ridiculous.
4.) She refuses to release them before Pennsylvania. Why wait until April?

She won't release them and instead compares Obama to Ken Starr. There is something fishy and she isn't helping herself at all. She's in a weak position still and this kind of game is really grating.

Obama's platform has been about transparency. I don't see how asking her to do the same is "desperate."

Just release them.

Robyn   March 6th, 2008 1:36 pm ET

Obama has been open and transparent regarding his tax returns. What are the Clintons hiding? What more dirty secrets do they not want the Americans to know? She might as well get it over with because the Republicans will DEFINITELY unearth the secrets like they always do with the Clintons.

CNN please do you job and start reporting on this story. Americans deserve to know.

Art H   March 6th, 2008 1:34 pm ET

I see the Obama strategy here. Put out talking points like "Hillary has not published her tax returns" out in the media cycle and all the hundreds of Obama fans will take it up and churn such a non-issue into a supposed life and death matter.

The more important question is, has she broken any rules or pledges by not releasing her returns ? If not, then such arguments are specious, irrelevant and should be tossed into the nearest garbage can.

Farrell, Houston, Tx   March 6th, 2008 1:34 pm ET

Hillary has lied four (4) times about when she would release her tax records. If there is nothing to hide, it would not have been necessary for Hillary to lie. The Republicans will say she is a liar and not trustworthy even if there is nothing to hide. And to attack Obama saying this is Ken Starr tactics will not fly with the Republicans, not smart.

Julie   March 6th, 2008 1:33 pm ET

Maria,

You should correct your European friends, Obama did respond

“And if Sen. Clinton doesn’t think that the Republicans will ask these very same questions, then she’s not as ready to go toe-to-toe with John McCain as she claims.”

I think that is a pretty good one myself...

Darth Vadik, CA   March 6th, 2008 1:33 pm ET

The nerve of Clinton's camp to call Obama's camp – Ken Starr. It was fine when in the early part of the week, she was hitting him left and right. Well, Hilliary it's your turn. Get the tax returns, and while you are at it get the names of the secret contributors to the Clinton Library and when you're done with that – get the names of your campaign's secret donors. OPEN UP THAT SAFE-DEPOSIT BOX , RIGHT NOW GIRL!

Listen America,

If we think that Hillary Clinton doesn't have a lot of payback to do after all her "vetted years" in the White House, think again.

The drug companies top the list. Check her financial resources (on the web), people. The name Clinton waves as a big banner, but if you'll go underneath, Obama is squeaky clean.

I imagine that she does have to do on-line fund-raising now. What do you think? it's a way for the big dogs to wait it out now for the general election, if she's the one. Now the little people are giving. They will wake up soon I hope.

By the way, America, a good example of her leadership is a look at her overall campaign. Fiscal responsibility/accountabilty or the lack thereof (don't forget the $100,000 party – supporters moniey), infighting and staffing issues, just heads up guys. Oh and I remember her saying once that she once again wanted to do something about our moral majority in the world. Don't you think she should start at home first. Seems she good at telling other people what to do without looking at herself.

Oh yeah, I know this is a little mean, so forgive me, but isn't it time for a Hillary makeover. Perhaps we should call Tyra or Oprah.

Dante Young   March 6th, 2008 1:33 pm ET

Wake up Americans! you are better than that.
1.- You have bought the war with Irac even though you complain but have done nothing to Bush who is laughing all the way.
2.- Now, you are buying the commercial of fear by Hillary Clinton about
Who will be ready at 3:00 a.m. when the red phone in the white house rings.
3.- Knowing how Bill Clinton has the tendency to fool around you may get a Call early than 3:00 a.m. That will be a distraction.
4.- The Clinton people motto is" lets expose Barack Obama's dirty laundry. "
5.- Barack Obama is trying to change America with honor by showing
his wisdom and judgement

HookedonPolitics   March 6th, 2008 1:32 pm ET

The Clintons only like negative campaigning –"fun" as Hillary referred to it, when they are dishing the dirt. Why can't Hillary and her stupid possey do simple arithmetic. Even if she wins all the rest of the primaries by a 60% – 40% margin (which will never happen), she still will not win the nomination. Girlfriend needs to bow out gracefully before all of the Clinton dirt comes up all over again. Hey - does anyone remember that Bill got a "BJ" in the White House? And poor Hillary, has such low self-esteem that she kept him. Why? So that he could help her become President - hence (all of her new pants suits) now whose the man behind the throne? Give it up - the Clinton era is over!

Kevin M   March 6th, 2008 1:32 pm ET

Thanks. It's about time Obama asks voters to look at Hillary's actions (or inactions) and so called 'experience'. Hillary is delaying releasing her tax return and white house papers. Hillary has little foreign policy experience and a scant legislative record. Obama has more legislative experience and has sponsored more meaningful legislation in his brief time in the US Senate than Hillary has. Check the facts. Hillary screams "Shame on you!'" because Obama tells the truth. Hillary equates Obama with Ken Starr because he asks her to deliver on her promises. Is this the kind of politic we want? No!
Obama 2008!.

Mike, Arkansas   March 6th, 2008 1:32 pm ET

Only a week ago, the white house said it was waiting on the Clinton Campaign on the next step. As soon as the Clinton Campaign responds then they will be released.. so its in the hands of the Clinton Campaign now, and Hillary was blaming the white house. Who would you believe?? The white house or Hillary who has time and time again lied to us??

There has already been proof of her accepting money from criminals, she had her picture taken with them.. its all over the internet if you all would just do your research! She also plays business in Washington.. votes and money for political favors. Maybe she voted yes for Iraq for some political favor. That is the Clinton way. Are you all who are for Hillary so blind you dont research anything??

Stephen, Portland OR   March 6th, 2008 1:32 pm ET

Look, people need to read the news more closely. She hasn't released tax returns for 2006 either. This is not about this year's taxes nor about the April 15th deadline. This started when she loaned her own campaign $5M (and charged interest). The legitimate question is, where did she get that kind of money? Senators don't make THAT much.

Obama and Michelle released all of their tax returns and we find that, for someone in Washington, their incomes are fairly modest; yet the Clintons have $5M laying around? How is that possible? What are they hiding?

What are you hiding, Hillary?   March 6th, 2008 1:32 pm ET

We are asking for all of her previous tax returns, not just this year's. Surely, it takes no more than a day to release her returns from her years in the White House and las tyear.

Adam in TX   March 6th, 2008 1:31 pm ET

Curious, but where are Obama's Tax returns? After conducting a Google search for them, what appears in the top searches is the rhetoric going back and forth over Clinton's returns. If Obama has previously released his, they aren't readily accesible, which is really what Obama is arguing for...to me, that sounds like the words of a hypocrite.

Bill, Chicago, IL   March 6th, 2008 1:31 pm ET

Uh, memo to Wolfson...Obama has already won the primary. Hillary can't do anything but whine and try to steal it at this point.

Jeff from the Redwoods   March 6th, 2008 1:31 pm ET

It is the Clintons who have pulled out the Republican/Ken Starr playbook and are using it against Senator Obama to cover up their own inadequacies -- and that is unfortunate for not just the Democratic Party in November but more importantly the country. The Clintons really do want to dash the hopes, dreams and aspirations of the American people for their own selfish interests.

Nicole, Birmingham, AL   March 6th, 2008 1:30 pm ET

The Clinton's are toxic; they are two of the most sinfully greedy and dishonest people in American politics. They are no different than Bush and Cheney! She said a few weeks ago Barack was using Karle Rove tactics, if that ain't the pot calling the kettle black. Give me a break. And this is coming from a female who does not support Hilary; I have my own voice and believe there are more qualified and honest women who can be the first women President. Hilary only has her own interest in mind; she could care less about women and our rights. She hasn't struggled for a dog on thing. I hope you read my comment on t.v. and I hope she's watching, because I've never cared much for her, I have always felt her interest were self serving.

CA   March 6th, 2008 1:30 pm ET

Democrats: Do you really want this woman in the WH? First she lavishes praise on Obama, stating she is proud to be on stage with him....the next moment, the venom comes out of the other side of her face in an effort to "WIN" the nomination. For you people that are blind, this woman, and her husband, will first tear your Party apart getting what they want....then they will further divide this country. If you think for a second that this woman is consiliatory, or in a mood to compromise, you are mistaken.

Hillary and company consistently demonize their apponents, I guess they will demonize Peter Paul in October in the fraud case against them. I'm looking forward to it.

Wayne   March 6th, 2008 1:30 pm ET

Transparency in government is one of the things he wants to CHANGE in Washington. All of the presidential candidates have released their tax returns except for Hillary. If she doesnt want to be transparent..FINE but Obama needs to let the public know that you can expect more of the same from Hillary if she is president. Status quo..no change. Same ol same ole

Joshua , Portland, OR   March 6th, 2008 1:30 pm ET

She's SWIFTBOATING Obama 08..

does anyone in the democratic partry have control over these campaigns.. Serioulsy folks Howard Dean has to be the weakest party chair ever.. I doubt very seriously that Obama or Clinton can win the others supporters.. and without them they have no chance..

DEAN TAKE CONTROL OF YOUR PARTY .. its your job. Was this how your presidency would of been.. im glad you lost now

t   March 6th, 2008 1:29 pm ET

Vince,
It is when there is a history of past discretions, and the fact that she is running for the highest office in the land. You people would be saying the exact same thing if Barack werent releasing his, too bad he doesnt even have to be asked because he's got nothing that needs double and triple chekcing to make sure everything is legal, and the parts that aren't are written out.

An ex-Clinton supporter   March 6th, 2008 1:29 pm ET

Obama has already released his tax returns. Furthermore, he is the only candidate who has not accepted PAC money and federal lobbyist money. Can Clinton say the same to either? NO NO NO NO NO

Tells me that she is hiding something and embedded with the corporate world.

Paul   March 6th, 2008 1:29 pm ET

I AM A CONSTANT READER OF THIS PAGE AND I REALLY WONDER IF AMERICA IS ALL ABOUT RACE OR STATUES QUOTE?
A YEAR AGO, OBAMA WAS -20 POINTS BECAUSE NO ONE KNEW HIM. STATUS QUOTE MADE CLINTON WHERE SHE IS TODAY. AMERICA, TELL ME THE TRUTH, DO YOU GUYS REALLY WANT A FIGHTER BACK TO WHITE HOUSE THAT WOULD END UP FIGHTING THE WORLD WITH WARS OR DO U GUYS WANT TO REPAIR YOUR INTERNATIONAL IMAGE? DO YOU GUYS REALLY WANT AN AFRICAN AMERICAN IN WHITE HOUSE? OBAMA HAS WORKED HARD SO FAR TO DEFEND ALL CLINTON’S NEGATIVE, DESPARATE TALKS AND AD’S. IS THERE NO TRUE AMERICAN WHO CAN ASK HER ONE QUESTION ABOUT HER EXPERIENCE AND TAXES? TONY REZKO FIRST FUNDRAISED 4 THE CLINTONS B4 OBAMA ISSUE. IF TONY IS BAD LIKE YOU ALL PAINT HIM TODAY, THEN THE CLINTON’S ARE CORRUPT. FAIRNESS AND JUSTICE SHOULD RULE ALWAYS. IF OBAMA NEVER RELEASED HIS TAXES, IT WOULD HAVE BEEN DIFFERENT STORIES. OBAMA HAD WON STRAIGHT 11-0 STATES RATHER THAN CLINTON 3 STATES. IF YOU GUY’S REALLY WANT CHANGE, THEN U NEED TO VOTE SOME NEW WITH A NEW AND READY TO BRING BACK YOUR JOBS FROM CHINA WHICH BILL CLINTON SOLD OUT INCLUDING BUSH. TAKE MY WORD, WHAT HAPPENED IN 2004 MIND REPEAT ITSELF AGAIN IF DEMOCRATS DON’T STAY FOCUS AND PLAY A CLEAN N FAIR ELECTION AS WE ALL ARE OBSERVING FLORIDA AND MICHIGAN RESULT BE COUNTED AFTER THE LEADERS SAID NO. GET READY BECAUSE McCAIN IS WAITING!

Georgette, Imperial Beach, CA   March 6th, 2008 1:29 pm ET

What a crock of crap! Wish CNN would stop giving credence to this and concentrate one some real NEWS! Leave the gossip to TMZ, plz.

James   March 6th, 2008 1:29 pm ET

Americans, please understand why Hillary is holding back her tax returns from the past four years. Hillary files a joint return with Bill Clinton. Bill Clinton all of a sudden is getting million dollar deals which many speculate are not for work done, but are for access to his wife for political pandering. Hillary knows this concern and won't release her tax returns because of it. Once the American Public sees that Hillary received millions from the Saudi's, Dubai, etc. and looks at her voting record, there will be a high correlation between donations and votes.

Sorry, the Clintons are putting the presidency and Hillary's office up for sale. We as Americans deserve to know the full information in order to vet it.

TB   March 6th, 2008 1:29 pm ET

These Clintonites are killing me. Rezko? Are you kidding me? Obama has not been implicated in anyway to the Rezko trial other than them being old friends, so leave it alone. I bet if we brought up all the 'friends' that Hil and Bill ever knew that have since been implicated in some legal issues, the list would be rather lengthy I'm sure...

Crystal in CA   March 6th, 2008 1:29 pm ET

So the Clinton News Network continues to filter comments on this blog.

Why haven't you all reported the Breaking News out of Canada about how they admitted to lying about what happened with Obama regarding NAFTA?

Why haven't you all brought up the trial involving Hillary and Bill vs. Peter Paul? How about Norman Hsu?

These are real issues CNN. Or is it that you guys are not a REAL news network? Judging from the articles you all have posted recently, I'd bet on the latter.

Jack, Independent   March 6th, 2008 1:29 pm ET

I THOUGHT HILLARY HAD 35 YEARS EXPERIENCE, NOW I STRONGLY BELIEVE IT IS NOT TRUE AND BOTH CANDIDATES HAVE JUST THE SAME EXPERIENCE. I REALIZE THAT HER FOREIGN POLICY EXPERIENCE IS JUST A "SPEECH" SHE GAVE IN CHINA.

IT'S CLEAR TO ME THAT "WHAT GOES AROUND COMES AROUND" AND I THINK SHE WILL FACE MORE CHALLENGES AS THERE ARE LOT OF CONTROVERSEY WITH THE CLINTONS TO DIG.....

OBAMA HAS EVERY RIGHT TO ASK ABOUT HER CREDENTIALS. NO ONE SHOULD EXPECT HIM TO BE SO NICE NOT EVEN TO QUESTION THE OPPONENT IN A CIVIL WAY. THAT IS NOT A NEGATIVE ATTACK.

CLINTON HAS TO SHOW ME HER CREDENTIALS TO GET MY VOTE. ELSE, I WILL VOTE FOR OBAMA OR MCCAIN THIS NOVEMBER.

No name   March 6th, 2008 1:28 pm ET

I would question Barak's use of word CHANGE. He is preaching "CHANGE" as if every one in Washington is just waiting for Barak to show up and they will drop their pants of in honor of Barak. He has been there now three years or so. some one in press should ask him a simple question what have you change so far in your stay in Washington? You may get the answer "CHANGE" as that is all he has. Tell him to start walking on grounds.

Mad in Texas   March 6th, 2008 1:28 pm ET

Good lands Obama people. She has repeatedly told you when she will release her tax returns. She had nothing to hide when Starr was spending all our tax dollars at the Republicans request. He found nothing. Now here comes the whining Obama's crew doing the same thing. If you can't stand to get your butt whipped then don't get in the ring. People what do you think Putin will do to this cream puff. You can say he's not on the Rezko's court list all you want, but before the trial is overwith it will be. He has a lot of explaining to do there. I for one am not fooled by the man nor do I want him in the White House. Hillary can't win what a bunch of dopes. Don't ever underestimate the Clintons. GO BABY GO. HILLARY 08

Karen, TN   March 6th, 2008 1:28 pm ET

This is ridiculous! Who's been running the negative campaign so far? Clinton of course! And now they want to bring up their own past sins (i.e. Starr related issues) as a way of discrediting Obama because he might say something negative about her? And people keep voting for her??? The circles the Clinton campaign is going in are just dizzying! What's going on with the American people? Wise up please before it's too late!

In regards to the tax return, did anyone else notice how flustered Hillary got at the last debate when she was asked whether her tax return would be released before March 4th? She tripped all over herself. One has to wonder why. I know hers is more complicated than mine, but I don't know what could be hard about calling the accountant and getting them to put out a copy.

Ann, MO   March 6th, 2008 1:28 pm ET

People better start caring about what the Clintons have been up to for the past 7 years. Believe me, the Republicans have a truck load to start dumping on them if she wins the nomination. Hillary says Obama needs to be vetted, but accuses him of negative campaigning when he does the same to her? Why did Hillary lie about it being the White House that was holding up the release of her papers?

A lot of you are not old enough to remember the first Clinton administration, but Hillary is running and claiming that as part of her experience, so the Republicans have the right, just as Obama does to bring up all of the unanswered questions.

Barack wants to turn the page on that kind of politics, but let's be real here, if the Dems want to win, they had better accept the fact that the Clintons have a lot of garbage that is going to come out sooner or later, some of it true, and some not, but we will not win in November.

Everyone has the right to know what happened when Bill helped the little known Canadian get that mine deal that also netted the Clintons $130,000 million, and that happened in 2006, so we need to see those tax returns. Bill made statements (to get that deal) that were against the US policy on human rights, and that is not right, no matter which party is in the White House, for a former President to do that.

I find it interesting that it was a Canadian that "leaked" some memo against Barack. Is there a connection there?

If we do not want that kind of mess again, we had better put a stop to it now and vote for Obama.

Betty Ann   March 6th, 2008 1:28 pm ET

Al, Sacramento Ca   March 6th, 2008 1:27 pm ET

What's the big deal???

Obama supporters are starting to get real nasty and that does not seem to reflect Obama's persona.

Kevin M   March 6th, 2008 1:27 pm ET

It's about time Obama asks voters to look at Hillary's actions (or inactions) and so called 'experience'. Hillary is delaying releasing her tax return and white house papers. Hillary has little foreign policy experience and a scant legislative record. Obama has more legislative experience and has sponsored more meaningful legislation in his brief time in the US Senate than Hillary has. Check the facts. Hillary screams "Shame on you!'" because Obama tells the truth. Hillary equates Obama with Ken Starr because he asks her to deliver on her promises. Is this the kind of politic we want? No!
Obama 2008!.

paul   March 6th, 2008 1:26 pm ET

As a Senator their tax returns are veted, this is all polical gamesmenship. Obama equates his street organizing and legal work as experience to be commander in chief, get real, that experience isn't the same as decision making made on a world stage. He values his good judgement, judgements are logically the same as those who think have a value. Nevertheless, I guess Obama must think Hillary's experience as first lady was nothing more than arranging tea parties. The fact is she has seen first hand what being president is all about, the process of decision making, the command of the issues, and courage it takes to move in the right direction. Working the hood isn't the same as working the command center. The campaigns are fighting for delegates, and will spin and work whatever message they can to achieve the outcome they want.
Therefore, Obama isn't doing anything different than another politician running for office.

look byond   March 6th, 2008 1:26 pm ET

My concern is.
Hilary uses negative campaign against Obama, and gets away with it, but when Obama reveals the real truth about Hilary, then there comes the attack against Obama.

Is she having a Royal treatment from CNN.
I AGREE, WE SHOULD TURN OFF CNN.

I used to be a HILARY supporter, but seeing her other vendictive side.
Thank God there is some one like Obama running for the presidency.

concerned   March 6th, 2008 1:26 pm ET

I don't understand why people state that it is Hillary's turn to be president. Since when has the presidency been an entitlement. The best candidate should be the president. It is this type of comments of entitlement that makes people disinterested in politics. Let the voice of the people decide and not the belief of entitlement. She is no more qualified than Obama. She still has to prove she has experience other than longevity in Washington. She has done nothing as a senator in NY and missed important votes in national security such as FISA. Her judgement is poor. You are right Hillairy actions is more important to words. I have yet to see action from you.

Jonny   March 6th, 2008 1:26 pm ET

Hey everybody...look! The Dem. Party is torpedoing themselves...What a shock!!

Every freaking time you people find a way to screw yourselves over. You want Hillary? Have her, because I guarantee you all it means is a a free ride for McCain.

Snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. That should be the new slogan for the Democrats.

Phil, Memphis   March 6th, 2008 1:26 pm ET

As sstated, clinton has been making financial disclosures for the last 20 years. She is also required, as a senator, to disclose all income sources, including her spouses income sources. All of that info is readily available out on the internet. But if you want more, feel free to set up a web site and post YOUR tax returns on it. Feel comfortable doing that in this day and age?

This is all a smoke screen by Obama, who seems to have nothing else he can talk about. The Clintons have had more scrutiny of their financial records than any couple in the history of our country. I am quickly losing respect for the Obama camp, as they obviously think the American people are idiots who don't realize this. Give me a freaking break.

Terry   March 6th, 2008 1:25 pm ET

I'm so tired of this – this woman will say anything, do anything it takes. It's way beyond disingenuous by now, it's improv. I wanted to remain positive about the prospect of voting for HRC – voted for her husband twice, but enough is enough – Hillary never, Obama 08, 12.

Bayou Joe,
moron, you dont get a turn at president, you become president because the people of the country call on you. Maybe I should get in line now, I'm 21, by the time I'm 60 will it be my turn? I mean I'll probably have more leadership experience than she does by then.

Bill, Streamwood, IL   March 6th, 2008 1:23 pm ET

This is a fore-taste of what a Hillary Clinton presidency will be like, bringing up past grievances and then settling old scores.

Might be entertaining though.

Craig, Ohio   March 6th, 2008 1:23 pm ET

With a level head and a clear mind, Obama stated in a commerical in Ohio that, "Everyday he is reminded that he is not perfect." I don't see Obama playing on sympathy and his life has been far more difficulty than Hillary could ever imagine. Leaders don't whine, cry and play the victim on national TV! Comparing Obama to Ken Star is going to come back and haunt Hillary.

Obama is the face of the Democratic Party and a good example of Democracy. Hillary Clinton is not a Leader and if you believe so you are sadly mistaken.

AJ, IL   March 6th, 2008 1:23 pm ET

What is Hillary hiding?!?! No joint tax returns! No Hillary White House papers! It's been over a year and Hillary still hasn't released her tax returns from 2003 to 2006? What's the hold up?! What have the Clintons been involved in since 2002 that they are hiding now?

Witness list for the Rezko trial does not even list Obama! But the Peter Paul trial coming in October 2008 will have Hillary and Bill on the list!

Kerry   March 6th, 2008 1:23 pm ET

If you search for "Tony Rezko", you will find a picture of him standing in between ... Bill and Hillary Clinton in front of blue drapes and US flags.

That is why Hillary is afraid to attack Obama about Rezko.

In fact, 12 of the Clinton's biggest donnors are in jail and more are joinning them – Norman Hsu and Tony Rezko.

Denis van Dam   March 6th, 2008 1:22 pm ET

If everything is clear and transparent, what's the problem of releasing the tax-returns? Or is there something we shouldn't know or see?

Boomer   March 6th, 2008 1:22 pm ET

Democrats slinging mud at Democrats, both in the presidential nomination and on this site! What could make the Republicans happier?? There's not much policy difference between Hillary and Barack. Everybody should make it clear to both campaigns that they are sick of mudslinging. The candidates should present their policies and show their styles and then the people should decide using both rationality and intuition. What is happenig now is pure power struggle and doesn't look good on either candidate. Enough already!!!

Cathy   March 6th, 2008 1:22 pm ET

Obama supporters, beware, your candidate is far from squeaky clean. He is not totally transparent. Wait until all of the skeletons start coming out of his closet. It's not going to be pretty. Check out youtube, there is a lot of dirt circulating about Mr. Clean.

Karen   March 6th, 2008 1:22 pm ET

Did Obama just bring up transparency? Ha! Ha! Ha! This coming from the guy who refused to answer questions and ran from reporters.

David in Brazil   March 6th, 2008 1:22 pm ET

Congress (Republicans) spent $90 million during the '90's trying to find something, anything the Clintons did that was illegal with no results. It seems that after all the years and dollars, there are some who still WANT to believe them guilty of all they were accused of. I wonder if these people can remember that things were pretty darn good for most Americans during the '90's.

S. Shay   March 6th, 2008 1:22 pm ET

If Obama is like Ken Starr and Ken Starr is a bad person why would she suggest Obama as her running mate?

I swear it's true that she plays upon the unintelligent. Only a dummie would not see through this sorry excuse for a woman.

If Ohio is the only state that matters what about the other states that voted for you? They don't count? Furthermore, if the majority of Americans voted for Obama it means the majority of people have not chosen you! Go home!!

Donna in ID   March 6th, 2008 1:21 pm ET

LNAB   March 6th, 2008 1:20 pm ET

The candidates are not required to release their tax returns until the general election. Period.

I do believe that after years and years of scrutiny, the hyperbole from Obama supporters about Clinton's tax returns is much louder than the whimper that will occur when the actual deed is done. But it certainly gives Obama "something" to talk about.

Give me a break people, why isn't Obama talking about "his superior experience" and "exactly HOW he can be the agent of change" in this country? He keeps claiming these things but has yet to point to any meaningful action where he has actually accomplished it.

P King   March 6th, 2008 1:20 pm ET

I think the Clinton Camp should clean up their act. Obama has displayed integrity throughout this campaign and shows to me that he is the better candidate he does not lower himself to mud slinging as the Clinton camp has. I will vote McCain before I vote for mud slinging woman that has no integrity!!!!!!!!!!
FYI I will be speaking at the DAR meeting this weekend and will most definitely give my opinion of the underhanded ways of Hillary Clinton she apparently will do anything to win the election and I do not want a person of this low of character in the White House.!!!!!!!

t   March 6th, 2008 1:19 pm ET

I just don't get how people can vote for a a person, especially the possible first woman president of the US, who has achieve nothing on her own. How did she get elected to senate? Illegally funded campaign fundraisers (clinton v paul), carpetbagging, over 70% of her fund from outside the state from people who owed favors to her husband. I would have sooo much respect for her if she got to this point in her life without all the help from her president husband. I mean she claims to be a feminist that doesnt conform to the male dominated world, but look at how she got to where she is today. And come on comparing Obama to Ken Starr? They dragged that man through the dirt with a more than likely unlawful smear campaign of their own. this family is despicable and if we as a country want to do better for ourselves and the world we will keep these people and the cronies as far away from the White House as possible. Remember no one is clean in this world we all at some point have done things that we only want to keep to ourselves. we do not even wish to share with those we are in love with even though we love them to death. Obama or Clinton have their portion, what voters should look for is ability to do the job which as many employers always highlight....."teamwork" if you are unable to work with others how will you perform your task satisfactorily?

After Clinton and Obama tear each other up what will the democratic party be like after August 2008? Are they not aware that EVEN JOHN MACCAIN IS MAKING HISTORY TO BE THE FIRST PRESIDENT OF THE US AT AGE 72 WHEN HE GETS TO THE OFFICE? OR DO THEY THINK HE IS NOT SERIOUS ABOUT MAKING THAT HISTORY?

HILLARY SUPPORTER   March 6th, 2008 1:18 pm ET

Lucy   March 6th, 2008 1:18 pm ET

Oh what a short memory voting Americans are showing by voting Hillary...do you remember all the scandals during the Clinton first run in the White House...White Water, travel department, failed health insurance initiative. Clinton's are notorious for not wanting to give up their financial information...where did the $5M come from? Other candidates have not had a problem giving up their financial information. Do you remember the movie and book Primary Colors...the book by one of their former Secret Service agents....??!!

If we truly expect change in Washington to get things done for the average American citizen, electing John McCain or Hillary Clinton who have lived most of their life in Washington, is not it. They "talk" about Obama's inexperience....he has been in Washington long enough to know it's broken and calling on our American citizens to make a bold vote for new direction!

Michigan/Florida: all candidates...and govenors...knew the rules and consequences...stay tough Howard Dean with your no changes mid-stream...spending money that especially Michigan cannot affortd..is a symptom of everything wrong with the current system. It's another Clinton machine tactic and/or manipulation which again points out the difference in characters between those that abide by the rules and those that do not.

A vote for true change in Washington and the United States world relationships is a vote for Obama 08.

From the very beginning obama is the one that was negative and divisive by villanizing Hillary. He thinks he can hide under the protection of the media and the fact that he may not have "bad political history," but that is just because he hasn't done anything so far.

Obama, this is a race for the President of the US. We are not electing the next church leader. Go preach somewhere else and let the adults take care of our beloved country.

Barak Obama’s Accomplishments:

0. During his years in the senate, pressed the wrong voting button 6 times....thank God he doesn't have the nuke button next to him.

1. Bought a cheap house with free garden, saved 300k.

2. Successfully delayed 15 parking tickets for over 20 years (think how
much gain he could have made investing it)

3. Invented a way to vote on tough issues without jeopardize his political future (voting present, he should patent it)

4. Secured most campaign funding among all candidates from big insurance co.

5. Successfully (for a while) fooled US voters on NAFTA rhetoric.

6. Made people faint in rallies. (repeatable results)

7. Made his wife feel proud of US for the first time.

8. Successfully held on to the subcommittee chair position for over a year without holding any hearings.

Brandon   March 6th, 2008 1:17 pm ET

The arguement that Clinton should get the nomination because she has won the big states is very very weak. She did win these big Democratic states, but only by small margins. Thats why Obama is leading because he blew her out in 14 states. Does anyone think that Obama will not win Cali and NY over McCain but Clinton will? Thats just not logical.

The fact is Clinton won big states because of name recognition. When the voters get to know Obama, he wins. Thats why he does well in small states. By November Obama will have the name recognition to defeat McCain by and landslide. The non-democrat states he wins will become a part of a new and lasting democratic majority. Look to the future, not the past!

California Independent   March 6th, 2008 1:17 pm ET

Obama really doesn't want to go this route. What happened to hope and change and a 'new' way of doing politics. Poor Obama, doesn't have a clue.....

Clintons playing victims again after all mud throwing at Obama? Obama shall dig out all the skeletons from Billary's closet and throw it her! If Obama can be compared to Ken Starr then Hillary is definitely related to Adolf Hitler!

Ebony   March 6th, 2008 1:16 pm ET

Hilary Clinton needs to be put on blast about her fundraising tactics with Peter Paul. She voted for the war, the new bankruptcy law,the no child left behnd act, her present votes as a senator, her lies abput the 200,000 jobs that she was supposed to bring to New York, and her past taxes, and fundraising tactics. There is so much dirt on the Clinton's that it would take many years to discuss.Obama should take her down because she wants to throw the kitchen sink at him so he should throw the whole kitchen at her.She is so crazy and dirty. Does she really want to get into experience? She has 12 years as first lady in the Arkansas Governor house and 8 years in the white house. She is a second term junior senator in New York. Obama has 8 years in the senate, 15+ years combined as a civil rights attorney ,college professor that teaches national security,3 years as a first term senator from Illinois. If Hilary is so strong why did she vote so badly for major issues?I don't see 35 years experience that she is claiming.I did not know that you could claim your first lady status as experience.I gues it is a double standard when you are a Clinton. I am for a woman winning but not this woman with so much dirty laundrybehind her and her husband.I am for Obama! If he is not the democratic nominee than my vote goes to McCain.

MNDem   March 6th, 2008 1:16 pm ET

For the record, it is the Clintons who brought back the name Ken Starr. I'm not really sure they want to do that!! Even though Ken Starr went too far, Bill's misdeeds in the White House were definitely a black eye for America.

Now, that being said, why isn't the media asking the Clinton's about their upcoming fraud and corruption trial involving Peter Paul?

Do you Hillary supporters think it is some made up story? Well, the California Supreme Court doesn't seem to think so!

mamady sylla (london)   March 6th, 2008 1:16 pm ET

If ordinary american refuse to release his/her tax return, that person may expose herself to some penalties. politiciens should not give wrong signals.
I strongly believe, if hillary was winning as Obama does actually(150 pledged); Obama would have given way for the interest of the party.
Only Obama gets the best chance to reclaim the the power to the republicans in this election 2008.
Superdelegates know it, they can vote only one way if they don' t want to see the democratic party explodes into pieces.

Deb   March 6th, 2008 1:15 pm ET

OB thugs you're going to be eating the egg on your face when her returns show nothing unusual.

This is a very weak attempt to keep folks from wondering what YOU are hiding!

We've only been exposed to a few of your incredible lies.

Keep running for office and we'll discover the really big ones that will end your Political Activities for good!

You are not leader material at all.

Brian from Los Angeles   March 6th, 2008 1:15 pm ET

Go Hillary. We need somebody battle tested. Hire Obama as your speech writer. One day he will learn that experience and solutions are what really matters. His words seem to only work well amongst the naive youth, who want a poet in the White House. Wait till they see the reality of less money in their wallets, due to his dreams and hope speeches that result into the reality of higher taxes.

voter   March 6th, 2008 1:15 pm ET

Hillairy is mistaken. Obama is not sidestepping his ability to lead by requesting her to release her taxes and documents as first lady. If she is saying she has the ability tand experience o lead, than prove it rather than talking about it. I want to see in the documents what she did in the white house that makes her better than Obama to lead. Actions do speak louder than words. If she expects Obama to prove his ability to lead, than in the same token she should do the same. All of the canidadates released their taxes so why can't she be placed in the same standards as everyone else. Release the documents about your taxes and time as first lady and let the American people decide if you have the experience to lead which she does not because she has no execuetive experience in creating policy. There is no difference between she and Obama in experience other than her word. I thought she said words don't matter, but action. If she has nothing to hide, release the documents.

Long-term Memory   March 6th, 2008 1:15 pm ET

The right to keep your tax returns private until full disclosure is required by law–as in the case of a presidential party nominee–is a civil right. Continuing to badger Hillary Clinton on this is a bad move on Obama's part. If there was anything in them worth knowing (that is, illegal), the IRS would have already investigated it. Thus, the only thing that can be gained by this is information that can be spun by the candidate against her. How many posting here, for instance, have any idea about the intricate (and fabulously complex) details of tax law?

I, for one, don't care how much money the Clintons have. Barack Obama and his wife have made almost 2 million dollars in the last two years. That's hardly small potatoes. In terms of transparency, he might try releasing his 2005 and 2006 earmark requests. John McCain will certainly win in the earmark debate.

I can only conclude that if this doesn't get posted, then the CNN writers will be supporters of McCain because Obama will lose the transparency argument against McCain and not to let Obama's campaign know that this is fear-baiting (in the form of "what's she hiding?") is not to let them know just how poor in judgment this badgering is. (Of course, you could just close the comments to this post as well.)

Larry   March 6th, 2008 1:14 pm ET

Are you telling me that a candidate for the most powerful position in our country can't get her taxes done any sooner? And the wife of the former president can't get her White House schedule released, now? By not pressing those two issues harder, the news media is allowing her to cover some tracks she does not want to be discovered by the public.

ariel   March 6th, 2008 1:14 pm ET

I am so tired of both Obama and Clinton supporters saying they will vote for Mc Cain if their candidate isn't nominated.
A vote for Mc Cain is a personal stamp of approval for continuing the war.A vote for Mc Cain ensures there will be more empty chairs around the dining room table at Thanksgiving.
Snap out of it.

Release your returns/White House papers   March 6th, 2008 1:14 pm ET

It is standard for Presidential candidates to release their tax returns to make sure that there are no illegal contributions made under the table. This is the highest office in the nation, and integrity in our Presidency is critical.

Obama has released his returns, so why doesn't she? Unless there is something seedy that she is hiding!!!

Trev   March 6th, 2008 1:13 pm ET

Kab: I am sorry that you feel that Obama supporters are better than Obama supporters. What a great way to promote the candidate of unity :)

Obama has transparency problems of his own (NAFTA). The Ken Starr analogy is apt. He spent millions of taxpayers money to dig up a little dirt, then lost. Obama is spending millions to dig up a little dirt and can only come up with the fact that Hillary has not done something that I have not done this year (filed all my taxes).

By the way Kab, calling Hillary supporters losers... Not a good idea. The candidates are fair game. Personal attacks against supporters is going to make it really hard for either candidate to win in the general.

Simon Buckland   March 6th, 2008 1:13 pm ET

Does anyone in the Democratic party have the wit to stop this disaster before it consumes the party's chances in the General Election?

What did so many people always say about Hillary Clinton? That, despite her considerable abilities, she's divisive, hypocritical and evasive – well she's proved it yet again.

Anyone remember "It's an honor to be sitting here with Barack Obama"? Would that be the same Barack Obama "whose entire campaign is based on a speech he gave in 2002", and whom she compared unfavorably with John McCain?

Praetorian says "the jury is still out on Obama" – well, they've returned an unanimous verdict on HDC. Guilty as charged.

Julie   March 6th, 2008 1:13 pm ET

I am not Hillary Hater, but I have to ask...are her campaign people the ones drinking hallucinagenic Kool-aid. First we have her saying she and John McCain are qualified but Obama is not...good plan. McCain throw that one back at her and trump her on it...

Now we have her campaign comparing her to Ken Starr, a man who actually succeeded in having Clinton impeached by the house and led to his disbarment from practicing law or holding a Supreme Court position–for what–lying.

Maybe its just me, but I wouldn't throw out the name of the man who proved my husband was a liar to defend myself. Guess they are all dizzy from success.

Dennis   March 6th, 2008 1:13 pm ET

I find it interesting that Clinton supporters have no problem with Hillary "drawing distinctions" between herself and Obama through innuendo and negative ads, yet when the table is turned, they accuse of him being negative and a fraud.

Ty   March 6th, 2008 1:12 pm ET

I am writing this comment to appeal to all Barack supporters.

Clinton camp has been deploying all dirty tactics thus far. The tactic has included an attempt to overthrow voters' well and to seat delegates from two non-contest states. By the rule of DMC, these delegates will not be counted and should not be counted. It will only be fair to other states that follow the rule in the process.

I call for Barack supporters to be unified against this attempt. Once we are organized, we can then voice our opposition to the DMC. If the super-delegates in DMC do not take into account of our opposition, the organization can then boycotting the participation of general election (or abandon the DMC altogether).

CNN should post this message.

DTMV   March 6th, 2008 1:12 pm ET

Mike from Calgary   March 6th, 2008 1:12 pm ET

The Clinton Campaign shouldn't be casting stones. Hillary's attack on Obama for talking out of both side of his mouth should be directed at herself and her own campaign after disclosures in Ottawa Canada that in fact it was Clinton's own aides who indicated to Ottawa that her promises to renegotiate or cancel NAFTA were not to be taken seriously by Canada. I'm sure that the US and particulary OHIO want to sell to to Canada and to receive secure energy sources from Canada. Clinton has again displayed what a HYPOCRITE she is and how silly and small minded she really can be. Obama was right when he said the silly season was here. Congratulations to Hillary and Ohio for doing their best to ensure the that the best man for the job is elected prseident.

Obama has got to go!! America let's get rid of this pompous, sore loser. Everytime he loses, or whenever Hillary gets applause, his face turns sour. He is a narcissist and megalomaniac...power hungry, ambition driven, and in need of constant praise and attention. For the sake of our country, I just hope he disappears. GO HILLARY!!

Kate   March 6th, 2008 1:11 pm ET

I've never voted on the democratic ticket before and planned to this time because of "change." This doesn't seem like change.

Patricia   March 6th, 2008 1:11 pm ET

Please! What does this have to do with economic and national security. Can we get back on track here? And where does all of Barack Obama's campaign money come from? I bet we would be surprised if we knew who some of his doners were. All of his biography and people connections still remain a mystery. The release of tax forms seem minor compared to real issues like job security, healthcare, and realizing that we still live in a dangerous world and have to remain prepared. I've voted democrat for years, but I am taking a look at who will keep the country secure and that includes John McCain. Anyone who thinks that national security should be put on a back burner needs to get their heads out of the Obama clouds.

Len   March 6th, 2008 1:11 pm ET

No better way for Obama to take the Resko heat off of him, than to attack Hillary. If there was dirt to be found the Republicans would have found it by now. By God, they spent 8 years looking for it. Obama hasn't seen scrutiny yet.,and already the double dealing NAFTA/CANADA and corruption of Resko have surfaced. Can't wait to see the rest of his character I think squeeky clean, just isn't so.. Don't judge him on the color of his skin, but the content of his Character. Martin Luther King.

brenda   March 6th, 2008 1:09 pm ET

it was sad to hear obama say after his loss in ohio, texas and rhode island, the it basically didnt matter because he was still ahead in delegate votes. if i were from any one of those states i would have been insulted. i would have felt like he didnt care about me at all but only cared that i could cast a vote. yes it was obvious that he was angry but he should have expected this to happen. why? because hillary has been in the political arena, in one way or another, for over 35 years and so she knows how to play the game. as far as her being a fighter, I WANT AND NEED a fighter to be my president. i dont want someone in the white house who may be afraid to raise their voice and offend. that job is probable left to michelle.

Jean   March 6th, 2008 1:09 pm ET

How would all you folks like to release your tax returns? I can't see where the tax returns are anybodys business but the IRS.

Matt   March 6th, 2008 1:08 pm ET

Answer to Tax Returns? Get the quote right!! One the FORMER foreign advisor said that he hasn't had a red phone moment. HOWEVER, neither Hillary or John have had a red call moment either. Remember, when Hillary's advisors were asked the same question, they couldn't think of ONE situation that was red phone for her. What Barack's advisor said was the Barack had the judgement to pick up the phone, Hillary (voting for the Iraq War and Iran as a terrorist) did not.

Debra Austin, Texas   March 6th, 2008 1:07 pm ET

Clintonians, every candidate releases their tax returns so that the voters can see how they make their money (since they will be controlling to a large extent how we will be spending ours). Hillary Clinton blasted her Senate opponent for not releasing his tax returns but now it is comparable to Ken Starr for Obama to bring this issue up?

Clearly, Clinton had a taste of victory Tuesday and she's pretty cocky but she isn't going to be able to dine on winning. With that great win in Texas, she will lose 5-9 delegates from Texas to Obama. Good job HONEY!

CHICANO ART, ARIZONA   March 6th, 2008 1:06 pm ET

Her CPA's are reviewing it. It's not like Bill hunches over a desktop in some home office using turbo tax. He has to take is time. Releasing any concrete numbers would be reckless until they are completely ready.

Pat   March 6th, 2008 1:06 pm ET

If there is nothing to hide, ya-da ya-da ya-da, then by all means release the tax returns soonest. Otherwise it invites negative speculation. Likening the simple call to release tax returns (I thought all candidates do that to support their presidential bid?) to Ken-Star is really side-tracking the issue.

Does the Clinton campaign think "they can throw the kitchen sink" at the Obama campaign and not expect the same treatment? The Clinton's started going "negative" and now they're getting mad. The Ken Starr comparison is is just a "smoke screen" to divert the voters from the Clinton's many, many skeletons in their closet. By the way, why hasn't CNN.com updated their readers on the Peter Paul vs. The Clinton's fraud case?

Houston Texas   March 6th, 2008 1:03 pm ET

Ken Starr. Now I remember why no Clinton should be allowed back into the White House. Scandal after scandal after scandal.

Tansparency.   March 6th, 2008 1:03 pm ET

So I guess the Obama camp felt it was being transparent when they did the back door into Canada........then attempted to mislead the American voters.........then finally admitted.

I guess it was the finally admitting to it that was considered transparent. Same old politics....just by a different name!

Obama is no more transparent than the chair we are all sitting on....get real...his campaign is just full of alot of twists.....nothing more than that!

The Clintons won't release their money sources because then voters would find out that she's getting her money from the Saudi Royal family. Which would mean, yes, that Hillary Clinton, George W. Bush, and Osama Bin Laden all got their money from the same oil-rich tyrants (who, yes, also have a vested interest in a "Democratic" Iraq).

Hillary is a brilliant political strategist, but her integrity and ability to stand on her own is lacking. I believe in the self-made man whom rose up from a broken home with integrity.

Tim   March 6th, 2008 12:54 pm ET

Nice dodging of the question, Bill.

Good lord, the Clinton's just absolutely make me sick.

What's she hiding? What is it she doesn't want America to know?

Lying. Cheating. Twisting words. Hiding. That's the Clinton way.

maria from europe   March 6th, 2008 12:54 pm ET

that piece of news is all over europe now... and what worries me the most is that Obama is not responding at same level... he does need to speed up and do more events... she has 3 today he has none.... hmmm i do not understand.... from an europian point of view... and its said here... obama gave up...

i do feel is time to take the gloves of... or put them on as the case may be lolol and start punching back FAST!

Bobby   March 6th, 2008 12:54 pm ET

Witness list was announced for the Rezko scandal.
Guess what...Obama's name – NOT ON IT.
He's not even involved enough to be a witness in the trial.

case closed.

Wants to see the money!   March 6th, 2008 12:54 pm ET

The reason that the tax returns are so important….. think Cheney and Halliburton people. You can go online to the FEC website (PUBLIC/FREE) and see that Clinton has taken money from drug companies during her senate years. Big companies, etc. It's not just how much money she makes, who cares, its the source!!!

It's about political favors, etc. Think people!

Cnn please post this; don't put me in moderation like all the other times.

Why is it that Hillary can say anything she wants about Obama and when he fires back he gets blasted by the Hillary supporters. Fight Obama don't let them bully you!!!

Upstate Deb   March 6th, 2008 12:53 pm ET

Why does Hillary need to release her returns for people to be happy? Oh for crying out loud, she may be an elected official but she is also a private citizen. Unless she is doing something so highly illegal in obtaining her income, give it a rest, Obama cult!

She has done a fabulous job for NYS, let her work for ALL of the USA.

Roger   March 6th, 2008 12:53 pm ET

"I am sorry, I got so excited that I sent the above message prematurely!"

Man I hate premature posting don't you? I like Obama but I don't think I'd bring up White Water while his land deal with Rezko in Chicago is in play. Might be smart to drop that one.

MA   March 6th, 2008 12:53 pm ET

Poor Clintons, always the victim. It was someone elses fault Bill cheated on his wife. It is the press fault that she isn't doing better in the election. It is the caucuses fault that she can't win any of them. They have an excuse for everything and take responsibility for nothing.

John Dolan   March 6th, 2008 12:53 pm ET

Obama release you purchase sale agreement of your property and land deal in ILLinois. Let's see the Resko ,Obama sale that you and he agreed upon.

And what about being friends and visiting the home of the person who wanted to blow up the Pentigon in 1971.

charlie   March 6th, 2008 12:53 pm ET

This is absolutely ridiculous!

It's OK to throw the "Kitchen Sink" at your opponent but as soon as your opponent asks questions they are made out to be Ken Starr? If you dish it out you have to be able to take it.

Hillary would lose a general election badly. She is way too devisive and will most certainly unite the Republicans and many Independents. The way she has handled her campaign has also alienated many Democates who would vote for McCain.

RSP   March 6th, 2008 12:53 pm ET

This is merely Obama mimicking Clinton's success by digging up the past. Obama saw that it worked, so he's doing everything he can to discredit her. This doesn't gybe well with his "holier than thou" posture, that somehow he's the "anti-Washington". When he gets negative, the country will see that he's human, after all, and not a visionary. The bigger question is whether he could put aside his ego and except the VP position. I don't think he could handle answering to a woman.

Sarvatma Sharma Seattle, WA   March 6th, 2008 12:53 pm ET

Obama does a great job of villainizing Hillary, and side stepping the questions that count. He is a cool cat, funny guy, but so is our current President. And like our current President he is great at avoiding answering the questions that count and directing attention else where. I vote Present for OBAMA!

DC   March 6th, 2008 12:52 pm ET

Obama is getting desperate!!! I would like to see a copy of his campaign donations.

Go Hillary!!!

YES, WE WILL!!!

Obamista NYC   March 6th, 2008 12:52 pm ET

This guy just is trying to down-play Obama's point. Obama is obviously going to try to raise public awareness about the Clinton saga.

Obama is clever to do this. Probably knowing something that possibly the public is incapable of knowing he sees this as a window of opportunity.

You go Obama !

pat for obama   March 6th, 2008 12:52 pm ET

come on hillary the truth will come out liar. You attacked obama for something he did not do. So how does it feel now. Release those tax returns. The american people need to know.

Edwin Portland   March 6th, 2008 12:52 pm ET

Obama has carried the majority of delegates in 24 states to Hillary's 13 and he has over 1million more popular votes, why is she still around and slinging mud? Maybe ego, probably not the best interest of the country.

jfs   March 6th, 2008 12:52 pm ET

Here's a tip Hillary..............I really do not think you want to bring up White Water, Travelgate, Impeachments etc. That brings back BAD MEMORIES. ...not to mention the untimely suicide of the prosecutors witness( EVERYONE THOUGHT THAT WAS ODD). Maybe you should reconsider whom your folks are sling mud at............some of us remember the good old Clinton days.

John   March 6th, 2008 12:51 pm ET

She said in the Ohio debate that those tax returns would be out after the 15th of April. Sounds like pure Obamarrhea.

He's got to much time on his hands...maybe he should Chair his committee on Afghanistan.

Keep it up, Obama! Repeat the same thing about her ? 35 years of experience, ? tax returns, etc. ONLY, begin to tout your own qualifications over and over and over again so the electorate has something to compare.

steve o, barstow ca   March 6th, 2008 12:50 pm ET

Clintonfatigued   March 6th, 2008 12:50 pm ET

Actually Hillary you do "control the release of the White House schedules in question", you are LYING.

You have not even initiated requesting these to be reviewed and released and remember last week you blamed the White house, but were silent when they said that you have not even started the process.

You've gotten your wish Hillarity, the media is now leaving you alone and letting you get away with more lies, innuendos, smears, tricks, just like the good old 90's.

Need medicines again, Clinton Fatigue is returning, part of the vast left-wing, right-wing, sexist, media conspiracy.

Ready to MISLEAD from day one.

Have they even filed yet? They have till April 15, after all.

Not that their tax forms will change anyone's vote. I highly doubt Obama listed Rezco or whatever his name was on his.

David, Silver Spring, MD   March 6th, 2008 12:49 pm ET

Oh brother. Next she'll say Obama is part of a "vast right wing conspiracy." Is there anyone else in America so at home with attacking while playing the victim? She'll throw mud and then cry that someone made her hands are dirty.

I am so tired of Hillary Clinton and the Clinton way. I am so ready for change.

patricia   March 6th, 2008 12:49 pm ET

obama has every right to ask for Hillary's tax returns. What is she hidding. We ndde to know where the 5million she loaned her campaign came from. If she does not release them then she is a fraud. I know for sure that that she did not loan her campaign any money. You need to come clean Hillary or this will come to haunt you.

Todd, Kenosha, WI   March 6th, 2008 12:48 pm ET

Release the tax returns already. What are you hiding Hillary? There must be something to hide. She could have released them along time ago if she WANTED to. Obviously she has something to hide. They probably made 100 million last year and pay $2000 in taxes. Must be nice to be filthy rich like the Clintons.

Elenadia   March 6th, 2008 12:48 pm ET

Good for you Hillary, remind the voter sof all the Clinton White House shenanigans, the sleeze the absolute yuck factors, the attempts to define what "is" is. Hillary campaign is playing double standards.

CHICANO ART, ARIZONA   March 6th, 2008 12:46 pm ET

Her tax returns do not have to be submitted until next month. Normal people that might have a very simple 1040 do not file untill March or April. It would be a mistake to release any numbers untill you have had a qualified CPA look them up and down. We are talking about very big numbers and complex IRS rules. Wealthy people, even Democrats, take great care in preparing documents for the IRS.

rumpusgoopus   March 6th, 2008 12:46 pm ET

Only a real IDIOT running for president would bring up the name of the lawyer who prosecuted her husband's impeachment – and thus remind the American people about the things that really went on during the Clinton Administration, like Bill Clinton being disbarred and impeached.

More great judgment from Hillary Clionton and her sorry campaign.

Clinton... U as a democrat have hurt me (another Democrat)..you are dirty and you do not deserve to be the President

This is an unfair comparison–Obama could never compete against his scholarly leadership, tenacious pursuit of justice, and dedicated public service to the nation. Hell, he's only been on the scene for a few years–and that was as a political hack!!

Unfair–Ken Starr is great American. The jury is still out on Obama!

Heard about the rumors that Bill Clinton just anothe affair with a rich Lady from Canada???
Oh Oh

Brian   March 6th, 2008 12:39 pm ET

I guess you could say Obama is like Ken Starr if you want. Both asked the Clinton's questions about their honesty that they cannot/could not answer. Whether it's tax forms or White Water forms they double take and attack. I really though 8 years of Clinton and 8 years of Bush would wake this country up!!

Politra   March 6th, 2008 12:39 pm ET

. She has polluted the air for her benefit. It seemed to me that she has forgot her main identity- she is a democrat. The way she started and continued undermine and defame another democrat – ideologically its not an honest & responsible approach as a party-person. This type of sub standard politics we find in third world countries where democracy is still getting its shape. Person who , for her win, can ignore party interest how we can expect that she will be a responsible & honest president of a country ?

Hillary, now, you have to suffer with the pollution.

The Clinton camp continues is undignified tradition playing the victim.

Sure, preemptively accuse your opponents of the dastardly deeds you yourself have committed and will commit again. Decry the media "bias" against your unscrupulously underhanded tactics. Take credit for the accomplishments of the Clinton administration while reacting furiously to any blame for the failures.

You can't have it both ways. History will prove you to be the worst sort of hypocrite and narcissist.

Playing Games with Uneducated Voters   March 6th, 2008 12:37 pm ET

Sen Clinton said she would release her 2005, 2006, and 2007 tax returns by March 5. She does not, and yet calls someone else names? Lack of honesty, Integrity, and Morals.
Oops, sorry, I forgot, she is a Clinton.

An Army Veteran   March 6th, 2008 12:37 pm ET

Is this a joke???The Clinton campaign just won't stop. Desperation isugly. I guess they realized that Tuesday wasn't such a big win after all (only net 4 delegates). Clinton has to drop out like Richardson says, because its the only way to save the party for the General Election. Polls show Obama would beat Grandpa Munster by a larger % than Hillary, so why don't we unite behind the clear future nominee? Obama in 08!!!

Obama in 08!

Ken Starr or not, the question regarding her tax return is valid. By the same token, Obama doen't have any excuse for his NAFTA-gate either.

Kinda like the "Right Wing Conspiracy?" Voters want a candidate they can trust.

MIchael "C" in Lorton, Virginia   March 6th, 2008 12:35 pm ET

I think that the Obama campaign hit a "sensitive spot" with Hillary and that referring to Obama as Ken Starr confirm it. Ken Starr concluded his investigation of the Clintons and did his job. Congress allowed both of them to "escape from the jaws of victory" buy not having the character to impeach. It is going to even get more delicious in the general campaign election if Hillary wins the nomination. Her political experience will not be what is questioned, but rather the ethical conduct of both her and William "don't-ask-don't tell" Clinton.

is there some sort of requirement for or tradition of presidential candidates releasing their income tax forms? Obama has chosen to do so, but his suggestion that Clinton's choice not to do so is somehow nefarious is ridiculous. It seems to me that if we follow Obama's logic, any candidate could release any records he/she pleases and then deride other candidates for not following suit.

Ron, TX   March 6th, 2008 12:34 pm ET

Is Kenn Starr really who the Clintons want to be talking about?

Cindy   March 6th, 2008 12:34 pm ET

Ken Starr has nothing to do with this. Where's your tax return, Hillary? Why the delay? What are you hiding?

Charlotte   March 6th, 2008 12:33 pm ET

My understanding is, unless your are the nominee this is not required. If someone knows the law I'd appreciate the info. This years tax returns should prove interesting, what with the land deal with Rezko and all.

People lets ask ourselves why Sen. Hillary Clinton had her senior thesis at Wellesley College sealed? In the past 100 years all senior thesis's at Wellesley College have been made available except for Hillary Rodham Clinton. Also, how do Sen. Clinton go from the President of the Young Republican Organization at Wellesley College and an overwhelming supporter of Sen. Barry Goldwater, a known racist to an advocate of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.? .

Will the real Hillary Clinton please stand up? People before you vote, ask yourself, what is Sen. Hiillary Rodham Clinton hiding and can she be trusted?

Janel   March 6th, 2008 12:33 pm ET

I agree that the papers should be released...and as an Obama supporter, I am upset that it took him this long to pressure her about this...The tax returns and White House Logs will either prove her 35 yrs of experience that she is claiming, or show that she is not who she has been boosting she is...It amazes me that she adds her husbands term in office as part of your "experience"...It's time for her to put her show proof of her experience or shut up!

LoveOBAMA   March 6th, 2008 12:32 pm ET

Do not try to spin the focus off Clinton. Since she is so "vetted", lets see those tax returns. Lets see the resume documenting 35 years of experience. Or is it experience she xeroxed from Bill Clinton?

Lydia   March 6th, 2008 12:32 pm ET

hmmm... they still protest releasing those tax returns and white house papers. Really makes you wonder what they are hiding.

Bill W - PA   March 6th, 2008 12:32 pm ET

Kathy from Michigan   March 6th, 2008 12:28 pm ET

I am sorry, I got so excited that I sent the above message prematurely!

There is a FRAUD case pending against Bill Clinton (and Hillary may be added back into the case as a defendant and possibly charged with perjury)! Paul v. Clinton could go to trial right around the time of the general election!!! There is far too much to explain her, the mainstream media had better get on this ASAP, because alot of stars ands hollywood types are being deposed in this case. It could turn into the largest Campaign Finance violation case in Campaign finance history. What in the world will this do to the party and the election? I think they are so used to getting away with things that this doesn't even phase them. She should get out and stop asking questions about someone who is not yet accused and sweep around her own door.

Bayou Joe   March 6th, 2008 12:28 pm ET

When it comes to dirt, Clintons should really be silent as they have mountain of it.

Tax Returns?   March 6th, 2008 12:27 pm ET

I would like to know if Obama agrees with his foreign policy adviser who yesterday stated, he was "not ready" to take a 3 a.m. call in the White House?

If the people around you have their doubts then you have a problem Senator Obama.

sw   March 6th, 2008 12:27 pm ET

For Obama's call for Clinton to release tax return, I have to say it is a bad and desperate move, only cause people realizing more that he is just a dirty politician fighting for political positioning, and also maybe the loses hit him too hard, he forgot now is only early March, tax filing deadline is still more than a month away, what is the point to call out people release their tax return now; plus Has you release yours yet? probably not, I bet you are too busy for your compaign, has not got time to fill out your form yet! Isn't it you who are saying you are too busy for your compaign, that you haven't had one single meeting with NATO regarding the terrorist in Afganstan?

Obama's true colors are showing, if he's really this desperate. And, it's about time.

Kathy from Michigan   March 6th, 2008 12:23 pm ET
