Obama adviser resigns over comment

Power has resigned her position with the campaign.
Power has resigned her position with the campaign.

(CNN) - Samantha Power has resigned her position from Barack Obama's campaign after calling Hillary Clinton a 'monster,' the Illinois senator's campaign announced.

“With deep regret, I am resigning from my role as an advisor the Obama campaign effective today," Power said in a statement issued by the campaign. "Last Monday, I made inexcusable remarks that are at marked variance from my oft-stated admiration for Senator Clinton and from the spirit, tenor, and purpose of the Obama campaign. And I extend my deepest apologies to Senator Clinton, Senator Obama, and the remarkable team I have worked with over these long 14 months."

The Obama campaign said that the decision was Power’s, and stressed that “she was an adviser, not a paid staffer.”

"She made the decision to resign and we accepted," said communications director Robert Gibbs.

Earlier in the day, the Clinton campaign had called for Obama to end Power's association with his campaign.

    Too bad-she was spot on.

How about Wolfson go for all the ridiculous comments he's made?

It doesn't matter, Clinton won't stand a chance against Mcain if she is the nominee. Isn't she tired of the White House, she was already there for eight years for goodness sake. Give someone else a chance.

well she threw the kitchen sink at obama, this past week end, i remember when in the begining, she said they were mean to her because she was ahead, and i remember her saying if you can't stand the heat get out of the kitchen, maybe she should take her own advice and get out.

Finally, we get a glimpse of the Obama campaign under pressure.

Ms. Powers gave the voters some insight into how ugly the Obama camp can get - after all she is (or was) one of his top advisers.

It will be interesting to see what other slips come out over the next two weeks from his camp.

You cannot have it both ways kids.

Good – "She should have been fired by Obama. Why wasn't she?"

Whoever you are "Good"...you are an idiot. How would Obama fire her if she's not even paid by Obama? That's an idiotic comment. Power's comments may not have been the best words chosen but they are the truth!

A honorable thing to do from an honorable campaign. Too bad the Clinton campaign wouldn't do the same thing. This is the difference between the two candidates. I guess "experience" taints honor.

    Hillary's not a monster – just a politician.

Speaking of politics, expect the "Howard Dean Attack Machine" to go into full swing immediately to try to force a change in policy in Florida and Michigan. The Right will ultimately be behind this because they badly want Clinton to take the nomination.

BTW, thanks, Hillary, for betraying the Democratic Party.

    To Good:

Last time I checked, you can't fire someone who has resigned. If she resigns first (a very respectable decision on her part) then it's not his fault he didn't fire her. It's also possible that he asked her to resign which is, again, a respectable way to leave.

I think several people are right saying that the "stooping" was dead on but the "monster" was uncalled for. But you have to ask yourselves... would we have heard about it if she didn't use the word monster? My sense is that the answer is no.

People are crazy. There's nothing about Hillary to make people hate her with such fervor. It's something that has been built up ever since the Republicans went after her because she was trying to develop a plan for universal health care when she was First Lady and they screamed that it would amount to communism.

Ever since then, the smearing has snowballed out of control. I have asked every person who has said something really harsh to me about Hillary exactly why they would say that – and not a single person has been able to give me a real reason why they hate her so much. Not one! It's like she's just the woman you love to hate.

None of the candidates are perfect and they all have their issues, but it's way beyond making sense to call Hillary "Monster," "B**ch," or any of the other insane names that have been mentioned. She's not THAT bad.

If you disagree with one of her policies, that's fine. If you don't like her character, that's fine. Don't vote for her. But why this intense hatred?!?!?

Bush is more deserving. There is a record you can point to that shows incompitance and dishonesty. I would like to hear some more names used for him instead.

Senator Obama has been a man of his word. He has kept his campaign clean and honest.

Now on the other hand I think if Samatha Powers was on Hillary camp Bill would have reward her with a good time ;-).

Why do people keep asking why Obama didn't fire her? She wasn't a paid staffer as stated above. You can't fire someone if they aren't on your payroll.

will Howard Wolfson resign? no. why? because the whole clinton camp would have to resign if they were held accountable for anything they said and did, including Hillary Clinton herself.

How sad. She is such a brilliant woman. I think her comment was right on target. Can't believe how the Clinton campaign can justify calling for anyones resignation after the tricks they pull. All that campaign has to do is lie and deny and the MSM drops negitive stories like a hot potato.

Too bad you are all falling for the power, money and corruption backing these cable networks. It's the people who will loose in the end.

To all the Clinton supports, WE did not make OBAMA out to be an angel. WE simply accept him as his is. People are saying we think he is an angel. NO ONE ever said that, so if you are going to blog, blog about the article. HE DID KEEP HIS WORD! She is no longer working for the camaign!

All this nonsense is great for the Republicans. It won't just be the Presidency they win, it will be a significany # of House and Senate seats that they win also. With the Clinton sleaze and with Obama's inability to stand by his own stated principles, this party is showing what it is worth - nothing!!

The Democratic Party is dead! Long live the New Democratic Party.
