Obama calls for investigation into passport file snooping

Obama is calling for a congressional investigation.
Obama is calling for a congressional investigation.

(CNN) - Sen. Barack Obama Friday called for an investigation into how the security of the passport files of the three remaining presidential candidates was breached.

The State Department admitted Friday that the passport files of Obama, Sen. Hillary Clinton and Sen. John McCain had been accessed without authorization.

"One of the things that the American people count on in their interactions with any level of government is that if they have to disclose personal information that it stay personal and stay private," Obama said in Portland, Oregon.

"And when you have not just one but a series of attempts to tap into people's personal records, that's a problem not just for me, but for how our government is functioning," he said.

Obama said he expected "a full and thorough investigation" by the administration done in conjunction with congressional oversight committees.

The State Department's inspector general has already started an investigation, department officials said.

Attorney General Michael Mukasey said the Justice Department had not launched an investigation and did not expect to unless it was asked by the inspector general.

Yes, Barack does expect a full and thorough investigation, and so does John McCain. What's the difference? They are both running to be Commander in Chief?

    Hilda –

sounds like something Ann Coulter said recently – except she said she was going to vote for Hillary if McCain got the nomination.

since there's really no policy difference between Hillary and Barack, what is it that going to drive you into the arms of the Republican Party?

you really think that we believe that you, your family, your friends, and everyone you know will just blow the whole thing up if Hillary's not nominated? Sorry, but that's something that only Republicans and neo-cons do.

sorry if I don't believe you Hilda (or the various other names you post under)

Obama doesn't make me nervous. He gives me and the rest of the world a continued pride in America.

Reagan made me nervous, and after Americans partied for eight years, poor George Bush Sr. had to foot the bill. The trickle down theory didn't work for most folks. Consequently Bush Sr. was a one-term president.

Obama stands for One America !

    Wow!
what a change. what's going on to today at CNN blog?
I use to see only SHEEPS blogging at CNN.

Even with Richardson's endorsement news, I see significant increases of Clinton supports here today. I guess the SHEEPS are come to their senses now.

I am really concern if hussein Obama is president and our country will be deeply divided because of race. Both Bush's presidenecy was all about Iraq and hussein Obama presidenecy will only be about RACE.

The white guilt trip and RACE will always come up and nothing ever get done in Washington.

Overall we were doing fine and we made great stride on race equality until now.

There are sooo many successful black American already achieved by hard work……but no Hussein Obama wants turn back the clock to those inequality time in America with his speech.

We got war going on now and economy is not doing so great.
And here we are we are still talking about RACE!

Lets move forward and get our pride back for America.

We need a hard worker like Hillary. We don't need talker. We need a worker at this stage of America.

    Get'er Done!

Unfortunately TC, most of the voters, (except McCain with his mom's genes) will be around in 100 years. So he can say anything. I want someone who is going to tell me about the next 4 years. Let others speculate on the next 100.

Reagan said "trust, but verify". Well, we can't verify with a 100 year time frame.

    Bring the soldiers home now.

    Let the State Department investigate.
There really isn't a need for a Congressional investigation. What a waste of our (taxpayers) money.
YO, Representatives and Senators there are more important issues facing our country; stop wasting our time and money on investigations like this and steriods in sports.

"Obama's nervous about it because there's something in there that he doesn't want anyone to know about…………"
    Illinois

    Yes Illinois,
There is "something in there" he doesn't want anyone to know about, like his SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER.

Wake up America, if this can happen to high profile people, it could happen to you. This breach has to be investigated, and if there's nothing there, there's nothing there. But Senator Obama is right, investigate it.

The Clintons like to "trash" or belittle anyone who does not agree with them or does not support them. I hope Hillary supporters do not pick up this type of "attitude in life."

Little states do not matter; now Bill Richardson does not really matter. When and where will this tyoe of attitude end? I recall this as the behavior of my "bully" in grade school!

A full investigation is necessary. The troubling thing is that even though this will likely not be something serious this time, how is it that a contract employee can casually have access to this information during the era of "national security." This definitely affects my confidence in the state department and the current administration.-Jermaine Fanfair

I think that the government should make a background check to Obama. For his background is so complicated, it may damage the security.
