(CNN) - Sen. Barack Obama Friday called for an investigation into how the security of the passport files of the three remaining presidential candidates was breached.
The State Department admitted Friday that the passport files of Obama, Sen. Hillary Clinton and Sen. John McCain had been accessed without authorization.
"One of the things that the American people count on in their interactions with any level of government is that if they have to disclose personal information that it stay personal and stay private," Obama said in Portland, Oregon.
"And when you have not just one but a series of attempts to tap into people's personal records, that's a problem not just for me, but for how our government is functioning," he said.
Obama said he expected "a full and thorough investigation" by the administration done in conjunction with congressional oversight committees.
The State Department's inspector general has already started an investigation, department officials said.
Attorney General Michael Mukasey said the Justice Department had not launched an investigation and did not expect to unless it was asked by the inspector general.

Even with Richardson's endorsement news, I see significant increases of Clinton supports here today. I guess the SHEEPS are come to their senses now.
I am really concern if hussein Obama is president and our country will be deeply divided because of race. Both Bush's presidenecy was all about Iraq and hussein Obama presidenecy will only be about RACE.
The white guilt trip and RACE will always come up and nothing ever get done in Washington.
Overall we were doing fine and we made great stride on race equality until now.
There are sooo many successful black American already achieved by hard work……but no Hussein Obama wants turn back the clock to those inequality time in America with his speech.
We got war going on now and economy is not doing so great.
And here we are we are still talking about RACE!
Lets move forward and get our pride back for America.

Wake up America, if this can happen to high profile people, it could happen to you. This breach has to be investigated, and if there's nothing there, there's nothing there. But Senator Obama is right, investigate it.
The Clintons like to "trash" or belittle anyone who does not agree with them or does not support them. I hope Hillary supporters do not pick up this type of "attitude in life."

A full investigation is necessary. The troubling thing is that even though this will likely not be something serious this time, how is it that a contract employee can casually have access to this information during the era of "national security." I think that the government should make a background check to Obama. For his background is so complicated, it may damage the security.
