Blitzer: Clinton resurrects the Wright controversy

The economy once again may be the dominant campaign theme.
The economy once again may be the dominant campaign theme.

(CNN) – After staying out of the Barack Obama controversy over his former pastor, Rev. Jeremiah Wright, Hillary Clinton has now weighed in big time. She was asked about the flap when she met with the editorial board of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review today. “He would not have been my pastor,” she replied. “You know, you don’t choose your family, but you choose what church you want to attend.”

A few moments ago, at a news conference, she essentially said the same thing before the microphones and cameras. And as she did earlier in the day, she noted that she had spoken out last year against Don Imus for his racially-charged comments about the Rutgers University women’s basketball team. “I gave a speech at Rutgers University saying that hate speech was unacceptable in any setting, and I believe that.”

Suddenly, the Rev. Wright uproar has returned to the forefront. The other flap of the day – her embarrassing and erroneous description of her 1996 visit to Bosnia – has been pushed a bit aside. She acknowledges that she made a mistake in describing the scene of her arrival at the Tuzla airbase.

All of this must be seen within the context of this incredibly close race for the Democratic presidential nomination. With four weeks to go to the Pennsylvania primary and the 10 other contests that will follow, every utterance by the two candidates is critical. The scrutiny all around will be intense because the stakes are enormous.

    WOLF ;
I think that it is simple Hillary answered the QUESTION she was asked , in the manner that any AMERICAN should answer the question . Rev. Wright would not have been my pastor either.

The American people should wake up and realize that we are spending all this time discussing this stuff and should be looking for ways to get out of loosing our homes , jobs,etc..

We need a good Independent. Enough of this .

Not only is Hillary changing the subject, she and Bill have donated lots of money to "so-called" Black Liberation Churches including Reverend Wright's.

You Hillary supporters need to stop with all of this racist talk about Obama's pastor, because the Clinton's know for a fact that Reverend Wright is NOT a racist. It is just convenient for her to use him now to take the attention off of her BIG WHOPPER of a lie.

Do your homework and stop being a fool in the name of loyalty to Hillary Clinton.

We should all ask ourselves if we would have walked out on Rev. Wright's sermons. If we would have maintained a 20-year relationship with a man who preaches hate. If we would have had that man officiate at our wedding. If we would have subjected our children to that level of hate. I would hope we would have walked out instead of condone that behavior with our silence. One has only to read the hate-filled messages left on this board about Hillary Clinton to understand why Obama stirs up so much hatred in his supporters. He learned at the feet of the master.

What type of pastor did she have?
Is lying taught and tolorated at her church.
She told a HUGE lie, got caught, and NOW want get the slop bucket out. HOW PATHETIC!!!
It's quite obvious she does not care about this country, if she did, she would gracefully bow out and support our future president:
    President Barack Obama.

She did not criticize Obama, she responded about what she would do. To try and make this something else is disingenuous.

If Wright wouldn't be her Pastor, wouldn't that open up the door to ask her about her faith? Ask her if his "The Family" stuff is legitimate?

    Wolf:
Who is America? The more I hear about Rev. Wright comments, I have to wonder, who is America? Is not Rev Wright an American or the color of his skin suggest another Country. Rev. Wright comments was not flawed as some would have you believe. It was the truth in the truest form. Racism is still alive and well in this country and nothing will never be done until we as a people face it head on. Obama is trying.

Mr. Blitzer, why are you continually covering the Rev. Wright issue. You continually show the largest picture available of Rev. Wright with Senator Obama. I believe we as American citizens deserve to hear the issues and not all of this sensationalism. Senator Clinton is only now bringing up what she would have done in the case of Rev. Wright to change the media play back to Senator Obama, but I believe President Clinton has also used him as an advisor. Let's get back to the real issues, please!

Why don't Obama supporters ask what he's done for his country. Nothing that we can see. She was asked a question and answered, not to CNN's liking. She is running for President, not Bill, so leave him out of it. At least he's patriotic.

This women is such a healing uniting force within this party and country. Makes one wonder if her campaign might have had something to do with this Wright thing in the first place. I am 60 years old ...White... Male...and.....a sales executive. Never have I encountered such a stubborned and more selfish candidate. I will have voted and will vote for OBAMA. As a Democrat I am truely sorry that we have exposed this type of person to the country and the world. Wolf, when do you think she will quit for the good of all of us ???? I am ashamed for all of us.

    hmmm...let's seeee...

Candidate A has a pastor that brought him to Christ and fostered his spiritual journey over 20 years, but that has on occasion in his 30 years of preaching made ugly remarks about his country. Remarks protected by the first amendment, by the way.

Candidate B made up a story about being shot at by snipers to pad her resume at the same time that, coincidentally, REAL soldiers are currently being shot at by REAL snipers, in a war Candidate B voted to send them to. To be fair, the made up story is ALSO protected by the first amendment.

    I'll take Candidate A.

Obama is no longer a viable candidate.

What Hillary did in regards to Bosnia wasn't even close to a lie; it is called "Dramatic Effect", used by most Public Speakers.

You don't seem to understand the very Public Lies told and caught in his short time campaigning almost did Obama in, but the Rev. Wright issue lost the election for him completely!

There isn't a way for a candidate who "Hates" America to be elected to our highest office.

He is now known by our children as “The Bad Man who Hates America”!

So please let’s get real here….

Obama is no longer a viable candidate!

Let me understand something.... Obama has been crucified relentlessly in the press because of words of others. Clinton can tell an outright lie and is allowed to laugh it off by saying she misspoke and still there is outrage and talk about Pastor Wright. I don't understand the media or the American people for that matter. Hundreds of thousands of comments about Obama and he has yet to utter a single word that proves him to be a liar. I've gone to the same church for 22 years and some of my pastor's comments would make Rev. Wright blush.... However, I love my church family, I love the outreach ministry, I love the support I receive from my church family and will never leave regardless of the comments my pastor makes.

You can't choose your family, but you can choose your husband.

If Obama starts bringing up her personal life, then I guess she will play victim again.

Will there ever be dignity & competance in the whitehouse at the same time again?

    Wolf:

You are a HOT MESS for this. Her weighing in on the Rev Wright flap 2-weeks after everyone has had their say in no way ebbs the tide of her tsunami of lies: Bosnia, NAFTA, SCHIP, even the origin of her own name.

Good luck with stealing this nomination with your deceptions and lack of integrity. May the force be with you because that is what you will need.
