Blitzer: Clinton resurrects the Wright controversy

The economy once again may be the dominant campaign theme.
The economy once again may be the dominant campaign theme.

(CNN) – After staying out of the Barack Obama controversy over his former pastor, Rev. Jeremiah Wright, Hillary Clinton has now weighed in big time. She was asked about the flap when she met with the editorial board of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review today. “He would not have been my pastor,” she replied. “You know, you don’t choose your family, but you choose what church you want to attend.”

A few moments ago, at a news conference, she essentially said the same thing before the microphones and cameras. And as she did earlier in the day, she noted that she had spoken out last year against Don Imus for his racially-charged comments about the Rutgers University women’s basketball team. “I gave a speech at Rutgers University saying that hate speech was unacceptable in any setting, and I believe that.”

Suddenly, the Rev. Wright uproar has returned to the forefront. The other flap of the day – her embarrassing and erroneous description of her 1996 visit to Bosnia – has been pushed a bit aside. She acknowledges that she made a mistake in describing the scene of her arrival at the Tuzla airbase.

All of this must be seen within the context of this incredibly close race for the Democratic presidential nomination. With four weeks to go to the Pennsylvania primary and the 10 other contests that will follow, every utterance by the two candidates is critical. The scrutiny all around will be intense because the stakes are enormous.

    Wolf,
Why would anyone ask Hillary a question and expect a honest answer? SHE CAN'T EVEN BE HONEST WHEN IT COMES TO TELLING HOW MUCH EXPERIENCE SHE HAS.
When her camp wasn't discussing Rev Wright, I thought they had grown but not I think differently.

    I REJECT AND DENOUCE HILLARY!!!

You all are truly starting to show who is really racially charged, by going back to this ridiculous Rev. Wright "controversy". We want to know why we're not talking about Hilary's "mispeaking" Oh!! or what my parents and your's, as well called a FLAT-OUT LIE. I see why CNN is known as the Clinton News Network. You're slipping guys. We can't expect our president to say that she misspoke everytime she's caught in a LIE. What Hilary said and the definition of misspoke are two clearly different definitions. She's starting to sound alot Bush.

Obama and his supporters are so negative. Hillary was responding to direct questions about the Rev. Wright controversy. CNN stop being so negative towards Senator Clinton and so obviously in-favor of Obama. Try being fair journalists for a change. Obama cannot win in November and he won't win the Democratic Party nomination with the baggage he is now unveiling. People are finally seeing him for what he is- a novice Senator without any record of achievement who made devastatingly poor judgment decisions with respect to Rev. Wright and Rezko.

The videos of Clinton in Bosinia does help her because she is in a war zone surrounded by soldiers. The scene was a little less dangerous than Clinton descibed, but she still has far more experience than Obama. Obama has made his share of mistakes has he has clumsily navigated the Rev. Wright controversy. Most importantly denying that he knew about some of the controversial things Wright had said. Lets not forget how he threw his grandmother under the bus and claimed it was typical of whites to have racist tendencies.

People, Bill Clinton was the President of the United States. He had no choice but to host that breakfast. He WAS NOT a friend of Rev. Wright. He hosted Ministers. That was his job. He did it for this country...

And her choosing to stay with her husband that is her personal business. And if you ask me she proved that divorce is not always the only way out. And by the way have any of you heard the marriage vows, "...for better for worse....."

Clinton doesn't understand that she is not only hurting herself in the eyes of Superdelegates but also once again proving that she is a very polarizing candidate where already half of the nation does not like her.

Remember folks, the way she is running her campaign is the same way she will run this nation. Remember she nearly bankrupt her campaign and had to loan herself $5 million to stay afloat so this should give you a glimpse of how she will run the US economy, with neglegence.

Hillary is a monster....oh wait... monster is a step up to what Hillary has become.

Good job Hillary its about time you spoke out! I can't stand hearing the news media gush about how wonderful Obama's speech was. He not only threw his Grandmother under the bus, he threw it in reverse and backed over her when he called his Grandmother a "typical white person"! Where is the outrage!!!

What controversial sermons, teachings, lectures has Cllnton's and McCain Pastor, spiritual mentors or religious affiliates said in the past year, not just in their careers. Same old double standards against Blacks. Whites say and do whatever they want. They are the oppressor and controls the media.

Obama should ignore her. She can't win and is only wasting the American peoples time. Looks like she wants McCain to win the election so she can run in 4 years.

And, she claims to love America.

When you have a 5% or less chance of winning the democrat nomination,I suppose that you hit where ever you have to,the trouble is,is that the American people are starting to see Hillary in the real light,so sad,to bad...

You don't choose your family? She CHOSE to stay with Bill after he publicly humiliated her and single-handedly turned the Presidency and the Congress into the hands of Republicans. She did not REJECT or DENOUNCE him. What's worse is pictures have surfaced that show Wright at the Clinton Prayer Breakfast when he was seeking forgiveness and claiming repentance. If Wright would "not have been her pastor", how did he make it into the pearly gates when the Clinton-stock had tanked to an all time low? Hillary, don't go there..

Of course she brings it back. It's the only thing her campaign has, to alienate white voters, and she just lost a another, highly-courted superdelegate to Obama's camp. What do you do when you lose a delegate and get caught in a lie? Haha! Bring back the Wright Card! Obama just released all tax returns from 2000-2007. Where are Hillary's? Right. She still has to rework them to hide the 100 million the Clinton's made off that Khazakstan financier. Yes, blue-collar workers of Pennsylvania facing foreclosure because of NAFTA, one hundred million dollar Hillary Understands You.

If this is about character, then what are we supposed to think of the Bosnia lie? If this is about character, then why won't Clinton release her last six tax returns? If this is about character, then why have the Clinton's continuously interjected race into the campaign? If this is about character, then why did she stay with Bill? If this is about character, why has she made false claims about her foreign experience? If this is about character, why didn't she stand up for the people of Rwanda? If this is about character, why didn't she speak out about NAFTA? If this is about character, why didn't she stand up to the union breakers at Wal-Mart.

    1. Obama is always right.
    2. If Obama is wrong, see the rule #1 and attack anybody who say so.
    3. If Obama is undeniable wrong, see the rule #1, never admit it and call everybody who say so racist.

Nadden, Wright's was not her husband's pastor. Obama attended that church for 20 years. Bill had a picture with him, way before the videos were done. Do not mix apples and oranges. And they did ask her a question and she answer it.

Oh my Obama supporters are getting desperate!! Wolf....who really cares about 1996 and a trip to Bosnia. Does the trip involve the economy, the war, the mortgage crisis.....Votes not being counted....Did she make a ridiculous land deal for campaign funds.....lie about the money donated, then up the amount and up it again and again.... Oh by the way did you realize Wolf that 4000 is the number killed on Sunday? I'm just asking because her lie as you call it, could happen to anyone telling an exagerated story.....I have never caught a small fish....they are always whoppers!! Move on you are looking about as stupid as Jack Cafferty. We are going broke out here in America and you are talking about a 1996 trip to Bosnia....Perspective...

    Hillary,

How come Wright was in the White House when Bill was trying to explain away Monica?

He may not have been your Pastor, but your husband invited him to the White House. Talk about fairy tales?
