Blitzer: Clinton resurrects the Wright controversy

The economy once again may be the dominant campaign theme.
The economy once again may be the dominant campaign theme.

(CNN) – After staying out of the Barack Obama controversy over his former pastor, Rev. Jeremiah Wright, Hillary Clinton has now weighed in big time. She was asked about the flap when she met with the editorial board of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review today. “He would not have been my pastor,” she replied. “You know, you don’t choose your family, but you choose what church you want to attend.”

A few moments ago, at a news conference, she essentially said the same thing before the microphones and cameras. And as she did earlier in the day, she noted that she had spoken out last year against Don Imus for his racially-charged comments about the Rutgers University women’s basketball team. “I gave a speech at Rutgers University saying that hate speech was unacceptable in any setting, and I believe that.”

Suddenly, the Rev. Wright uproar has returned to the forefront. The other flap of the day – her embarrassing and erroneous description of her 1996 visit to Bosnia – has been pushed a bit aside. She acknowledges that she made a mistake in describing the scene of her arrival at the Tuzla airbase.

All of this must be seen within the context of this incredibly close race for the Democratic presidential nomination. With four weeks to go to the Pennsylvania primary and the 10 other contests that will follow, every utterance by the two candidates is critical. The scrutiny all around will be intense because the stakes are enormous.

Not only has the infighting between both Democratic candidates been destructive to the party and and the candidates political future but it now threatens to tear the party apart by loyalists. The democratic party is rooted in an ideology. I think it's way past the time for us to declare a candidate who best identifies with the ideas of this generation. Politics as usual is JUST NOT ENOUGH!

Is this the best and most experienced candidate the dems have, if so Pls Senator McCain change your mailing address to 1600 Pennsylvania Ave, how can go on tv and tell people the old "the one that got away fishing story" and then go point fingers at some one about another persons comment, when you should be concentrating on your own BS.

"Now" we all know why she stayed with him, to get into the white house at all costs.

If everyone went out and did or believed what hteir pastors said, I'm pretty sure the prisons would be filled entirely with catholics. Who cares what Wright said, he obviously has some deep seeded personal issues and what he said doesn't directly reflect any person who has ever been in contact with him, even Bill.

Hillary should stand by her fellow democrat against the ignorant, racist, and ill-informed attacks from the right wing. Instead she embraces the attacks proving she really will do anything to win. It's not about the future of the country for Hillary, it's all about her and here invincible ego.

Hillary could have said "I don't feel it is appropriate for me to comment on the topic of Rev Wright. Senator Obama spoke to that and I take hima this word. Let's discuss real practical issues that deal with Americans every day lives." That would have been the honorable thing to say. (Especially after just having mispoken about sniper fire).

The racism of this whole thing is the News anchor and so call Political expert who all are upset with Obama and not taking Wright to task for his action. And forget that Obama is also white. I think its races not to accept your own . So maybe we all don't live in the same world after all. " typical" .

She absolutely makes me sick. How about answering the question with something like,"Religion is a personal matter and I cannot speak for another persons religous beliefs or customs." Oh that's because it wouldn't make her look better. She is the type of person that puts other people down to make herself look better. If people want to know about her faith investigate it.

And the media is going to help this pathetic woman dodge the issue of her straight out lying about her experience which this campaign is about, not about Rev. Wright..........

She will do absolutely anything to win even destroy the party because there is no way either side supporters can vote for the other candidate.....

    Right on the money.
I am glad Hillary finally spoke out on Wright issue.
At the beginning she took the high rode but i think she just lost her patience with Obama because of his arrogance.
After Wright flap he is still acting like he is superior to her on judgment and racial issues. UNBELIVEABLE...

Is this really what we want in leaders? Seriously, Hillary just become a blemish on society. I think she should end this campaign before she goes to far...wait she already did that.

People think she made a bad choice in husbands but Hillary shows remarkable ability to forgive and live true to her vows of sticking it out for better or worse. I think this took incredible strength. Obama people that attack this deeply personal issue do not surprise me because they get their inspiration from a candidate,s spouse that has only really been proud of her country when it looked like she might be the first lady.
GO AWAY MICHELLE OBAMA. IF YOU DON'T LOVE AMERICA,
    THEN LEAVE IT.

The One Hundred religious leaders who were invited to the WHite House when President Clinton was fighting for his political and matrimonial life were carefully selected. On that deligently selected list was Rev. Wright who got security clearance into the White House. Is Sen. Clinton saying they knew nothing of these selected few they relied on for survival?

the race is still close enough for Hill to win with Super-Delegates!

there`s routine photos of Bill with 1000`s of people!...thus, the Wright/Bill photo means absolutely nothing!

and, besides, it isn`t Bill who`s running for Pres.

She is merely playing the race card, again, but Pennsylvania voters might be smarter than she gives them credit for and not play along.
As for her comment that she "misspoke", when describing her Bosnia trip, she can't even be honest in her choice of words, "lied" would be more accurate.

And? Didn't Obama lecture America on having a discussion on "race"? He wants to be in the kitchen let's see if he can stand the heat!
