Blitzer: Clinton resurrects the Wright controversy

The economy once again may be the dominant campaign theme.
The economy once again may be the dominant campaign theme.

(CNN) – After staying out of the Barack Obama controversy over his former pastor, Rev. Jeremiah Wright, Hillary Clinton has now weighed in big time. She was asked about the flap when she met with the editorial board of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review today. “He would not have been my pastor,” she replied. “You know, you don’t choose your family, but you choose what church you want to attend.”

A few moments ago, at a news conference, she essentially said the same thing before the microphones and cameras. And as she did earlier in the day, she noted that she had spoken out last year against Don Imus for his racially-charged comments about the Rutgers University women’s basketball team. “I gave a speech at Rutgers University saying that hate speech was unacceptable in any setting, and I believe that.”

Suddenly, the Rev. Wright uproar has returned to the forefront. The other flap of the day – her embarrassing and erroneous description of her 1996 visit to Bosnia – has been pushed a bit aside. She acknowledges that she made a mistake in describing the scene of her arrival at the Tuzla airbase.

All of this must be seen within the context of this incredibly close race for the Democratic presidential nomination. With four weeks to go to the Pennsylvania primary and the 10 other contests that will follow, every utterance by the two candidates is critical. The scrutiny all around will be intense because the stakes are enormous.

How can you mispeak in a story that you've been telling for months?

She most recently "misspoke" on St. Patrick's Day, but Sinbad, among others, called her out on the story before that.

I support Obama. If people would do their research, they would realize that Rev. Wright's words were taken out of context. How can you make sound judgements on snippets. It is obvious that the media knows that most people are lazy and won't research Rev. Wright's sermons. I think the media is really being biased on the issue. The Clintons are liars, it's a known fact. To the people who say Obama is unelectable, You need to seriously ask yourself , Is Hillary?

When are you going to admit that O'bama has pulled the wool over your eyes? Those rantings of pastor Wright had to have come from the church. Why would they do that? So O'Bama could go on the next day wtth his speech and try to debunk the comments by Ferrero that the presidential race had turned into a racial race. She spoke the truth as results of primarys continued to show black presincts voting between ninty and ninty-nine percent for O'Bama. This has never occured in any other election, so why now? The news media, and especially your show has given everything to O'Bama and continue to discredit Clinton as you have done for years. It's time that the news media began to report the actual news and not their trumped up version. Myrtle Beach, SC

Disgusting. How did she turn out to be so sick and immoral?

She's lost the nomination. She could go out honorably, but she's chosen to go out pathetically.

Hillary is just trying to redirect all that negative energy she's getting from her little "recollection" of the Bosnia visit 12 years ago.

    Here's what I say:

We believe you, Hillary, when you say you've BEEN to Bosnia. Everything else you've said about it has been refuted by witnesses and *gulp* VIDEO! Welcome to the age of technology.

Hillary Clinton is a liar, and will do anything to win this election. Let's look into her religious connections and see what she's hiding. Hillary has no shame!

Now that she claims the reason that she "misspoke"(lied) was because she was "sleep deprived", then HOW CAN WE TRUST a sleep deprived woman to answer the phone at 3 AM????

I guess she's not qualified to answer that phone call after all...

Hillary tell us why your husband invited pastor Wright to come pray for him when he got caught commiting adultery? This is the hypocrisy inherent in the Clintons when they needed a shoulder to lean on when Bill was caught messing around with Monica, Rev. Wright came by to offer comfort and now Hillary will throw him under the bus to win Pennsylvannia. What a character!!!

I can never vote for this hypocrite and to think the Clintons were once held in such high estime.

Wolf- She was asked a direct question and she answered without attacking Obama. She only said what she would do. You keep trying to stress that she attached him. It is quite evident that you are a strong Obama supporter rather than being an objective analyst.

    WOLF BLITZER,

DROP THE WRIGHT CONTROVERSARY! Enough already, why is CNN allowing Clinton to bring up the subject when you should be asking to see her tax returns.

RATINGS, NOTHING MORE THAN RATINGS! IAM TIRED OF HEARING ABOUT THIS PASTOR....................MOVE ON AND GET A LIFE.

Sen. Obama didn't make up a comment about being under sniper fire at his church. Clinton got caught in a 4-Pinocchio quality lie according to the Washington Post.

All of her resume padding is starting to fall out and she's trying to get more mileage out of a car that's already had its turn.

She lost the Bill Richardson endorsement.

Obama's race on speech has been taken on balance as at least a moderate success.

The New York Times and others are putting her chances at 5 percent or less.

A recent Public Policy Polling poll (say that three times fast) has Obama up by 21 points in the Tarheel state.

So, yes, let's by all means get back to talking about the pastor.

Intelligent voters will not let the Clintons change our minds on who we trust. I am amazed at the lengths that Hillary will go to, to destroy the party.

I was undecided but her tactics and lying have really disappointed me.

Contrary to what the Clintons think they are losing support in PA.

I will be voting for Obama.

    RE: REJECTING REV WRIGHT

Both Hillary and Barack needed a powerbase to launch their candidacies.

Without Bill, who would have heard of Hillary?

Without that church, Barack's campaign would never have made it out of Chicago.

We as a people need to stop requiring superhuman qualities of our candidates. Let's wait until they're elected before we skewer them.
Otherwise, nobody will run for public office but The Hulk or Teflon Man.

I'm glad she wasn't afraid to answer the question and I'm glad she gave that response. This Wright ordeal is a very important issue. I still think we need to dig deeper into this story and find out when and how many times Obama and/or his family attended Wright's outrageous sermons. I don't care if these were 'soundbits' that we heard, they were still horrific. This pastor shaped Obama's life and he is today what he is in part due to this pastor.

Hillary didn't resurrect the Wright controversy because it never died. All of us "little people", are still talking about Jeremiah Wright, we have never stopped. We are also still talking about Rezko, throwing poor old grandma under the bus, and labeling her a racist, which I am sure she was so surprised to realize. We are talking about everything we despise about Barack Obama. So to say it resurrected is incorrect. You can't resurrect something that never died to begin with. And PS: do the math – Obama can't win either! Why DO you Obamabutts keep forgetting that? Poor memory, or just a convenient lapse of memory?

Hillary did not bring the issue to the forefront. it never left there. We are ALL interested in knowing how this race issue is going to turn out and we keep saying that enough is enough but its really not. Why? because americans love a good fight and will do what it takes to flame the coals. We wont let it die down until Obama cries Uncle.

Yes, I'd like to hear Hillarys comments on her husbands choice for spiritual advise during the Monica, Jennifer, Paula , scandal. Rev. Wright was Bills choice, and I'd bet she knew it.

    Wolff,

Her flap has been pushed aside by whom? By you? I'm inclined to think Anderson is the only one left at CNN with any impartial attributes. It's beyond conspicous that you want to push the Wright story.
Wolff, just report the news and try to keep your Clinton tendencies to a minimum.
