Watch Chelsea Clinton field a question about Monica Lewinsky.

(CNN) — Chelsea Clinton has fielded a lot of questions as she campaigns for her mother's presidential bid, but on Tuesday the former first daughter faced a particularly awkward query for the first time.

Campaigning at Butler University in Indianapolis, an audience member asked the 28 year-old whether the Monica Lewinsky scandal had damaged her mother's reputation.

"Wow, you're the first person actually that's ever asked me that question in the, I don't know maybe, 70 college campuses I've now been to, and I do not think that is any of your business," Clinton responded, appearing a bit surprised by the question. The crowd immediately cheered loudly at the response.

It was supposed to be the last question of the event, but Chelsea Clinton decided to take one more, saying, "I don't think that should be the last question."

Though she has faced the glare of public life since she was a girl, Chelsea Clinton has contended with renewed press coverage after taking on a more prominent role in her mother's campaign earlier this year.

The Monica Lewinsky scandal made a brief return to the news last week, when newly-released White House schedules indicated Hillary Clinton was likely in the White House during at least 6 reported instances of encounters between her husband and the former White House intern.

she need to get off the campaign trail if she cant handle her parents deceit and lies.

PLM   March 25th, 2008 7:12 pm ET

I think it was a pretty poor choice by the questioner to ask Chelsea about this. Ask Hillary if you want, but don't drag Chelsea into it. She had nothing to do with the whole Monica Lewinsky debacle.

Renee   March 25th, 2008 7:12 pm ET

Chelsea did good by telling that person that was not their business. But Hillary, she said that she misspoke on the Sniper fire in Bosnia. No she didnot misspoke SHE LIED LIED LIED. Deceived the people of America. What eles has Hilliary LIED ABOUT.

jwilliams   March 25th, 2008 7:12 pm ET

Way to go Chelsea !!!!!dzyjne I agree with you.It is no ones business and you never know what you would do if you found out your spouse was cheating on you. And If they can work things out that is great!!! If you havn't experienced such a thing you should keep quite.

Bernadette Wheeler   March 25th, 2008 7:12 pm ET

Good for her!

suzy   March 25th, 2008 7:12 pm ET

Come on Hillary supporters!

Let's stop even engaging in these "educated" blogs (right!)

It's obvious who the smart ones are.
Some of these comments are just stupid and ridiculous!

I say we don't waste our time – then they can start being rude to teach other.

GO HILLARY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Kurt   March 25th, 2008 7:11 pm ET

"…an audience member asked the 28 year-old whether the Monica Lewinsky scandal had damaged her mother's reputation."

"I do not think that is any of your business."

Wrong answer.

Since your mother is running for president, how a well known scandal (in an administration she takes full credit for being a part of) affected her reputation is certainly fair game.

It IS her business   March 25th, 2008 7:11 pm ET

Having your mother running for president of the USA, I think it is everyones business for you to answer the question sweet heart.

MacD-Florida   March 25th, 2008 7:11 pm ET

Good response, Chelsea!

Michelle   March 25th, 2008 7:10 pm ET

If your father was impeached for lying to a grand jury over Monica.. you bet it is our business.

If American taxpayers had to spend 50 million in taxes, to investigate your father's lies then it is OUR business.

Sorry Chelsey, if you can't stand the heat, get off of the campaign trail. Your parents both have a lot to answer for to the American people.

Kat, Huntington, West Virginia   March 25th, 2008 7:10 pm ET

ok here is a news flash is was BILL and NOT Hillary that had an affair and I don't know about everyone else but I would sure hate to be held responsible for everything my parents or my spouse did! So please get off this, it is old and unimportant. Hillary is going to win this nomination because she is the best person for the job. She is still working hard and Barack is lounging on the beach-hummm-what does that tell us? This man has not real sense of what it takes to be president, the abmount of hard wrok involved. Hillary does and I beg the rest of you to wake up and realize he is very good at giving speeches but that is about it. Hillary is the only person to beat McCain in Nov. take another look at the national polls-the rest of the nation is waking up too. Hillary 08!

Amy   March 25th, 2008 7:10 pm ET

Totally inappropriate question in the first place, but of all people, Chelsea is in no position to answer it. Never should have been asked–what does it matter? Has nothing to do with anything! She handled the question very maturely and with dignity–good for her!

Hillary 2008   March 25th, 2008 7:10 pm ET

Wow! This is great answer to punch those Obama's stupid supporters' faces!

Chelsea is an outstanding girl among our age!

You are a great daughter as well!

Go Hillary ! God bless you!

Cindy   March 25th, 2008 7:10 pm ET

Good for you Chelsea! That really was the right answer.

Regardless if her mom is running for public office or not, both Chelsea and Hillary have a right to privacy about this issue.

Bill on the other hand, does not. I don't think he would have handled the question as well as Chelsea did, either.

CLINTON CLINE   March 25th, 2008 7:09 pm ET

WHOM EVER,
WAY TO GO CHELSEE ,IT IS NOT ANY ONES BUSSINESS WHAT HAPPENED WHIT YOUR PARENTS WHEN BILL WAS IN THE WHITEHOUSE .YOU TELL EM BABY.I THINK THAT HILLARY IS AWSOME AND IF SHE IS NOT THE NOMINEE I WILL NOT VOTE IN NOVEMBER.THEY HAVE GAV EHER TO MUCH BULL….. IF YOU ASK ME NOW WHEN THEY TALK ABOUT OBAMA HE CAN NOT TAKE IT WHAT THE …. IS HE GONNA DO IF HE WINS WHEN A PROBLEMS PRESENTS ITS SELF CALL SOMEONE ELSE. YOU DO WHAT YOU HALF TO WHEN SOME STUPID PERSON HAS THE GALL TO ASK YOU A STUPID QUESTION LIKE THAT
CLINTON CLINE WEST VIRGINA

GLMoore   March 25th, 2008 7:09 pm ET

Chelsea is not a child. However, she is Hillary and Bill Clinton's child. As a father I would never put my daughter in such a position as they have put their daughter. But, that being said, the questions about the Monica days will keep on coming and if they don't want their child to have to deal with this, they need to take her out of the line of fire.

stanley   March 25th, 2008 7:09 pm ET

I'm for Obama 100%, but good for Chelsea. She responded to that one perfectly. I'm just sorry she had to deal with it at all.

Bubba   March 25th, 2008 7:08 pm ET

Hillary must divorce Bubba. He is a detriment to her; not as a political hack, but as a "husband." She knows she must do this to save whatever "honor" she has left. This would be a powerful event, for women and men alike.

4REAL   March 25th, 2008 7:08 pm ET

Actually she needs to be prepared and answer the question whether they like her response or not. Now that she is grown Chelsea needs to know what type of life her parents lead while she was a child.

suzy   March 25th, 2008 7:08 pm ET

GOOD FOR YOU CHELSEA!!!!!!!!

Doug   March 25th, 2008 7:07 pm ET

Good for Chelsea but boo to her parents. Either they shouldn't have let her campaign or they should have prepared her to answer the question.

Chelsea's father was the 2nd President impeached by the House. She will have to deal with that fact – and this kind of question – for the rest of her life.

Rosa   March 25th, 2008 7:07 pm ET

CONGRAT TO CHELSEA.WAY TO GO

Obama Richardson   March 25th, 2008 7:07 pm ET

Gawd, she sounds like her mother!

Watch Hillary squirm this week. Getting caught in yet another lie, and being pressured by even more Dems to step down.

Of course the lie will blow over and she'll lie again, and she'll stab Obama many more times in the back and other parts of his body in her attempt to get ahead. America is tired of her. Let's get on with this nomination and get on with life.

There's more to life and this country than Hillary Clinton!

Scott   March 25th, 2008 7:06 pm ET

It was her right to say NUNYA. However, high politicking is a serious business. Perhaps that was the best thing to say. Obviously, her parents have enough faith in her to actually tour. That says a lot to me.

Joan   March 25th, 2008 7:06 pm ET

Another thought. Surely as we get further into the gutter in this campaign someone is surely going to question how we are that President Bill Clinton would not during a potential Hillary Clinton presidency have another fling. Is there a way to impeach a First Spouse?

gdouglas   March 25th, 2008 7:06 pm ET

be interesting to see if the person who asked yhe question is an obama supporter. kind of gutter politics. i wonder what skeletons are in the clost of the person who asked that question

Leo   March 25th, 2008 7:06 pm ET

It's our business when it comes to the governer of New York, so it is certainly our business when it comes to the President of our nation. A few people in this country do still believe in morals … I hope!

John Kay   March 25th, 2008 7:06 pm ET

Maybe she should avoid the question and answer section of the campaign. If not her father's infidelity will always put her on the defensive. Mr Bill; have you seen the pain you have caused your daughter?

Ginger   March 25th, 2008 7:05 pm ET

HOORAY FOR CHELSEA!!!

I was so very proud of her in the way that she handled this tasteless question that has nothing to do with any actually important issue. I hope Wolf and Jack take a moment to give this young woman some credit for being better than any other "surrogate" (all be they older, more experienced, and supposedly wiser)

Too bad we can't elect her….yet…

S.Joshi   March 25th, 2008 7:05 pm ET

"We all know what dad was doing in the WH, right? Do you understand who was actually running the show! So vote for mom, she is the real stuff! uh! The Clinton threesome is a bit frayed. The politcal page with the Clintons has to be turned for good!

Deirdre   March 25th, 2008 7:05 pm ET

How is that question relevant to the nominee's current campaign? Hillary Clinton certainly had no control over the extracurricular activities pursued by her husband & intern. Bill & Monica's rep obviously was damaged, and Hillary (for the most part) was pitied as the betrayed wife. I believe this was all hashed out years ago. It's not relevant anymore. It was simply an inflammatory comment made by a person who just wanted to watch their daughter squirm. It was rude, and voyeuristic in nature. I think Chelsea gave the best answer by saying "Not your business."

I believe a more relevant question regarding Hillary's reputation should have been: "Do you think the WHITEWATER scandal damaged her mother's reputation…"

Indiana Bob   March 25th, 2008 7:05 pm ET

If figures that most of the Obama supporters think this was a good question. You people really need to slow down on the Kool-Aid. It is destroying your very limited supply of brain cells.

BL-NYC   March 25th, 2008 7:05 pm ET

Well done Chelsea!!! Well done…

jennym   March 25th, 2008 7:05 pm ET

It was a fair question and she is an adult for heaven's sake. Sorry you can't weed out the obvious uncomfortable questions.

And just like her mom, evasive and or just refuse to answer. She could have just said NO … lol .. hey they are on a lying streak .. like mother like daughter.

Whether anyone likes it or not if anyone thinks Bill's impeachment and the Monica story will not be replayed in the general election is on drugs.

Kyle, Champaign, IL   March 25th, 2008 7:04 pm ET

Look, if she wants to be out on the trail with the big boys and girls then she needs to field the questions given to her. And frankly, as voters, it is our business to ask questions like this. It is a question of character. If everyone in the world can question Sen. Obama's character in regards to Rev. Wright then why can't the same character based questions be directed at Sen. Clinton? I think the realization that most of us democratic voters are coming to now is that this really IS going to split the party demographically come November. Maybe a month or so ago I would not have agreed with this statement, but now most certainly I do. I feel that their is growing animosity between supporters. If we don't just knock this crap off then we will fall dreadfully short of our one true unifying goal: a democrat in the White House.

ralph tyler   March 25th, 2008 7:04 pm ET

Like wow. I think this is our business. These people are in the public eye and during the time in question our taxpayer dollars were footing their room and board.

The Clintons have a gigantic double standard, namely: they can say any scandalous thing they please about a perceived enemy, but noboby is allowed to say anything nasty about them, even if it is true.

Little Chelsea is an adult, and has been for some time. The press should treat her like one, period.

And, Senator Clinton should stop saying she is going to release her tax records soon. How about right now?

Robert, Los Angeles California   March 25th, 2008 7:04 pm ET

Good for Chelsea! It never should have been anyone's business to begin with. Being a personal matter it should have never been made into the scandal that it was. Especially with the likes of Newtie Gingrich pointing fingers while having an affair behind his wife's back.

I'd take those days back in exchange for what the puppet of Dick Cheney in the White House has done to our country today.

clouse   March 25th, 2008 7:04 pm ET

Don't be suprised if Hillary will make this a victim card for her campaign.

I will not vote for Hillary, but if Chelsea is in the spotlight for her mother…don't be bothered by people who want to ask about your family business.

Cratt   March 25th, 2008 7:04 pm ET

Cheers to you, Chelsea!

Young Voter   March 25th, 2008 7:03 pm ET

The tough questions need to be answered. There will probably be a response to this question coming in a few days from the Clinton camp and it will be in the news for a couple weeks and then something else will happen to someone in either Obama's or Clinton's camp and that will drag on for some time. I for one found myself very excited at the beginning of this campaign but now find that the more stuff like this that goes on is really tiresome and quickly becoming boring. I wish we could just decide who will be the next democratic nominee and get Bush out of office.

SC   March 25th, 2008 7:03 pm ET

CMA   March 25th, 2008 7:03 pm ET

to all those saying it had to be an Obama supporter who asked the question…Have you thought about it perhaps being a Clinton operative that asked the question so that her daughter could respond in the way she did and play the old "victim card"???????????????

marianna   March 25th, 2008 7:03 pm ET

Is Obama getting desperate? Can't he find any other way to damage Hillary? What is that Lewinsky old re-heated cutlet about? Sure, we all know that Clinton got a BJ back then, but this was Bill, not Hillary, for heaven sake. Give me a break!

Go Obama, go, and don't come back!

Kevin   March 25th, 2008 7:03 pm ET

I don't understand the love affair with Obama? Somebody help me with this… He claims to be above it all and not the typical politician but all he shows over the past few weeks is that he is a typical politician. He claims that he has judgement- we now know that's been a lie. He has little experience, all he can do is stand up and deliver a good speech. When he has to answer a direct question without any teleprompter he studders. He got all "shaken up" over the Wright controvercy. I don't want that in the white house.

Please explain why we are voting for him??

MCCain is looking better and better!!!

mike   March 25th, 2008 7:03 pm ET

She was asked if it hurt her mother's situation – a fair question, that she didn't answer. Typical Clintonian avoidance.

Mervyn   March 25th, 2008 7:03 pm ET

I will never vote for Clinton, she learned her craft from her husband they both cannot be trusted and think that the white house belongs to them.
If she is the one selected even though I am a democrat and has always voted as one I will never vote.

Tim Rivers   March 25th, 2008 7:02 pm ET

GOOD FOR CHELSEA! I am an Obama supporter, and I'mcertain that Sen. Obama would not condone such a blantant question. That question was WAY out of line!

Charles Hardeman   March 25th, 2008 7:02 pm ET

ANYONE WHO THINKS THIS QUESTION WAS EVEN REMOTELY APPROPRIATE SHOULD BE TOTALLY ASHAMED!

Obama- if your supporters root for this kind of crap, its time you stand up and admit your mantra is totally BOGUS.

some movement….!

robbie   March 25th, 2008 7:02 pm ET

OF COURSE HILARY WOULD NOT HAVE WRIGHT AS HER PASTOR..SHE WOULD NEVER WORSHIP IN A "BLACK" CHURCH..EXCEPT OF COURSE WHEN SHE IS SEEKING "BLACK" VOTES…NOW SHE KNOWS SHE WONT EVER GET THESE, SHE HAS DRAWN BATTLE LINES

Ivan, Chicago, Illinois   March 25th, 2008 7:02 pm ET

That person who asked that question had to be either a Obama supporter of a Clinton hater. I wonder what the response from the Obama supporters would be if Obama was asked, if he thought it was proper to bring his children into a Church where their pastor preached hate.

Abraham   March 25th, 2008 7:01 pm ET

Hillary couldn't run her own household. She wants to run the nation? And her "wife-experience" should have been able to catch him over the years, right?

Doesn't every woman know her husband best, especially after as many years as they were married?

Marcia Houston, TX   March 25th, 2008 7:01 pm ET

She was prepared to answer the "question". She answered it. Even though it was completely irrelevant to her mother's campaign. Some may have not liked the answer. Tough cookies. The end.

Hillary is a good mother and an excellent role model in many ways. The proof is in the pudding! The Clinton's raised a lovely daughter.

CHELSEA-you go girl!

BOSNIA GATE   March 25th, 2008 7:01 pm ET

Chelsea should have answered it, but in true Clinton fashion, she dodged it….just like Hillary dodges bullets in Bosnia, and Bill dodged the draft..

Hillary is a public figure and gets paid with public money and is running for public office…IT IS OUR BUSINESS!

Jaime, Edinburg, TX   March 25th, 2008 7:01 pm ET

Good job Chelsea. I bet you anything it was an Obama supporter who asked that question. They are always looking to start a fight.

Marco   March 25th, 2008 7:01 pm ET

Its like asking Obama's daughters if they are proud their dad sat in that Church for 20 years listening to Anti-American hatred.
Go Hillary!
Go Chelsea!

Tex   March 25th, 2008 7:01 pm ET

You have to understand her upbringing. Her dad said He never inhaled and he did not have sex with that woman.

Her Mom said she was under sniper fire in Bosnia and is running the dirtiest Democratic primary campaign in the last several decades.

She has been treated with kid gloves while she campaigns for her Mom. So she figures she is enttled to special treatment.

What did you expect her to say?

Voting Is Our Business   March 25th, 2008 7:01 pm ET

Don't worry Chelsea, you won't have to answer any of those pesky voter questions for very long. Hopefully, you and your mom will go home very soon.

Obama 08

TX4HILLARY   March 25th, 2008 7:01 pm ET

Why is it that how her mother handled a widely publicized situation that was a personal pain… has ANYTHING to do with the presidency?

I would personally never stay with a cheater.. but who are WE TO JUDGE?

I think that shows alot about her moral character.

Its not like she attended Sunday sermons in a hatred-inciting church!

dddundalk   March 25th, 2008 7:01 pm ET

I don't think she was so much unprepared as insulted. Justifiably so.
Just the mention of the name MONICA LEWINSKY makes my stomach turn. I'm really glad the audience was behind Chelsea on this one.

Alice   March 25th, 2008 7:00 pm ET

Good for Chelsea. What a position to put a daughter to have to defend such dirtbag parents. She deserves better…..so do we.

Joan   March 25th, 2008 7:00 pm ET

It was not Hillary Clinton who today fed fuel to the fire of the "pastor/race" discussion; it is the media and more particularly talk shows such as yours where in your need to have something to talk about non-stop for hours on end that has caused the Democratic conflagration that may cause the Democrats to lose in the November election.

Chelsea was right, Wolf. It's none of our business…just as it is none of our business where Hillary or Obama attend church. Why isn't anyone talking about Hillary's affiliation with The Family in Washington, D. C.? It seems to me that is much more relevant politically than Obama's with a church he attended occasionally.

Greg   March 25th, 2008 7:00 pm ET

They learn early!

S Estill   March 25th, 2008 7:00 pm ET

Pathetic response. She's a GROWN woman, not a child. After it coming up again, she should have been prepared with an answer. And, YES Chelsea what ANY Presidential candidate has EVER done is my business and every other citizens business. We are being asked to trust one of these candidates with our country, our money, and our future. It's all relevent.

Lydia   March 25th, 2008 7:00 pm ET

That question was out of line.

Paul   March 25th, 2008 7:00 pm ET

Even I think that question was out of line.

Experience?   March 25th, 2008 7:00 pm ET

Maybe we need to hand Chelsea a pillow and make sure shes comfortable.

The question though Wasn't if she approved or denouce what her dad did. the question was "An audience member asked the 28 year-old whether the Monica Lewinsky scandal had damaged her mother's reputation." Why can't she respond to that question? All she needed to say was "No, she handled the situation better than anyone could anticpate."

SHE WASN"T ASKED "what do you think about the scandel" all she was asked was "does it hurt her reputation?" Stop babying her shes 28. Crying out loud she IS NOT A CHILD stop saying she is….

Chad   March 25th, 2008 7:00 pm ET

Similar to another distasteful politician, she could have just said, "So!" Or she could have emulated her mother and embellished about how she has to incresingly "dodge" these sorts of valid questions. Another great politician in the making — just deflect answering what the public has a right to know, in a chastising way. A clone!

deb   March 25th, 2008 6:59 pm ET

Sheesh! I just can't get over all the HATE that the Obama people spew against Hillary. Don't any of you notice how the pro Hillary people aren't nearly as angry? Do all of you go to the same church!? It sure seems like it. The media needs to quit being so biased against Hillary also! It's all so unfair. The Obama camp has bashed Hillary's camp so much more than the other way around it's pathetic and yet Hillary is viewed as some "evil" person. Like I said earlier, it's crazy!

EFM   March 25th, 2008 6:59 pm ET

The question was not appropriate; it was trashy. A daughter should not be asked about her father's cheating on her mother. Period. Why do you people enjoy digging in other people's garbage? I'm sure you've got your own.

James   March 25th, 2008 6:59 pm ET

If she didn't want to answer it, she could have been more polite and said, "I'd prefer not to answer." But if she's going to be a surrogate for the candidate, campaigning away, she has to have some sort of serious adult response to any question. She can't just hide behind the shield of protection that she had when she was first daughter as a legal minor.

Jonathan Swift   March 25th, 2008 6:59 pm ET

Give Chelsea a break here. She misspoke. The correct answer would have been something to the effect of "That is really so hard to tell, and was a long time ago." Why did she misspeak? Because she was not prepared for this question. It had not occurred to her,or at least she didn't think she needed an answer. Face it this is the mind set of the Clinton campaign- question us, shame on you; don't go along with our lies, shame on you. Well if I support you, shame on me.

Rosa   March 25th, 2008 6:59 pm ET

I am sick and tire of listening the same things over and over.If Clinton did a small mistake you make it bigger and bigger. You see I come from a country where I was in the middle of war and I can not recall every detail about being in the middle of the fire where helicopters and bullets were everywhere, and only my child could say after so many years what really happened. What I am trying to say is:it does not matter if this or that is true, what it really matter she was there.I was so happy to see some support from people that came from other countries to be in dangerous places like my country. You Americans do not have any idea of being in times of war.You haven't suffer those horrendous moments where your own children would die as I did.So when I saw white color skin people risquing their own lives I was really greatful that they where with us.Please talk about deep problems and not about soap operas of our politicians.Get real and talk about real solution for the nation.

enoch needles   March 25th, 2008 6:59 pm ET

way to dodge the snipers, chelsea.

well, if there had actually been snipers.

tjb   March 25th, 2008 6:59 pm ET

Great done, Chelsea!
It' really nobody's business.
And in general – that's what Bill had to tell to Ken Starr's people – non of your business!
Such deals should be only between wife and husband and nobody else.
America has to start being more civilized country like european where private life of goverment people do not influence on their electibility.
This Monica Lewinski scandal made America a laughstock of the whole world.
Bravo, Chelsea!

Marie   March 25th, 2008 6:59 pm ET

I agree with S.Shay — Chelsea's response lacked in grace. Besides, I didn't think Chelsea talked to the press so why is she answering questions in the first place?

Not that I particularly care about the answer nor do I particularly care to drag Lewinsky into this election. But the Clintons should have known that it would be brought into this matter.

IMHO, Clinton DID damage her reputation by sticking with Bill — personally, I wouldn't have stayed with him and so it makes me question Hillary's integrity and purpose for staying with him. I think she'd have had a stronger position if she'd dumped him.

For Obama   March 25th, 2008 6:58 pm ET

She is as cold, and disrespectful as her mother. Go figure! Could have answered in a much more friendlier tactful manner like Obama would have. But you learn from who rasies you!

I'm amazed that she held firm in the face of the sniper fire and oncoming Bosnian special forces to answer that question so well. She must be fit to be commander in chief.

Benjamin   March 25th, 2008 6:58 pm ET

That's the disgusting tactics of the Obama campaign and his followers. They aren't winning by debating issues, or presenting solutions, but by destroying Clinton in the most indecent manners.

NObama!   March 25th, 2008 6:58 pm ET

BOO! Terrible question.

How disrespectful is that?

Is anyone asking Obama's kids about his ties to Rezko or his ever-close pastor, Jeremiah Wright?

How do the Anti-Hillary's live with themselves? THEY will stop at nothing to degrade her and her family.

Hasn't Hillary endured enough?

She's strong..and a fighter.. the likes of which this country has not seen in quite some time.

No Hillary   March 25th, 2008 6:58 pm ET

Who cares what her daughter says. Not even Hillary herself is that relevant anymore.

Christie   March 25th, 2008 6:58 pm ET

I can't belive all of the non-sense that all of the Obama people are writing such ugly remarks. All of you stink, and you know what this is non of our business. Now, do you think that all of the presidents have been faithful to their wives? Come on!!!!! In a way I believe that you write this way, because: 1- you have experienced that or 2- are full of envy, because Chelasea is a very sophisticated young lady…….

Now, I am not going to say anything against OBAMA, because that is not my job- to judge him. There is a GOD up there and he knows EVERYTHING about us.

Chelsea doesn't want to answer ANY questions, she just wants you to vote for her mom, so she can have a White House wedding.

Just say no to her and her mom–and Chelsea, voting IS our business.

Obama 08

Kandice   March 25th, 2008 6:58 pm ET

It is interesting that on at least 6 instances, Hilary was in the White House while her husband was having an affair. If she couldn't keep up with her husband, what makes her think that she can keep up with Al-Qaeda in another country. Hmmm, how can she comment on who Obama chose to be his pastor when she chose a womanizer to be her husband?

Til   March 25th, 2008 6:57 pm ET

Chelsea blew her answer. She should have told the questioner that she was proud of how her mother handled a difficult situation. Instead, she falls back on the "my feelings are hurt" excuse.
Politics are tough. Don't send the little girl on the campaign trail if she can't handle the pressure.

mary   March 25th, 2008 6:57 pm ET

If you don't want answered question why are you running for your Mom. Your are not a kid… what's wrong with you… My nieces are younger ,but more mature than you…

Joe   March 25th, 2008 6:47 pm ET

Seems like a fair question to me. You're in public life now and on a campaign — everything is fair game! No need to be rude about it; it was an honest question. Just answer with a simple "no".

(Lord knows that, as always, this response will "await moderation" indefinitely, while vulgar responses like those from YuriGod will remain)

Nick Mann   March 25th, 2008 6:47 pm ET

Seems like a good question since Hillary's reaction to Bill's lieing under oathe in a civil trial and inappropriate behavior set the woman's movement back about two decades.

OlvrWhit   March 25th, 2008 6:47 pm ET

Great for Chelsea. It was not that person's business and its really not any of ours. If you think it is, then lets discuss all our personel lives..

Robbie Williamson. Its none of your business why she made that decision. The last time I checked my vows it was for better or worse. How about give credit to the women for working through a tough period in her personel life that many here think its their business.

Great Chelsea. Honest and open.

Ma & Pa Clinton   March 25th, 2008 6:46 pm ET

Well, I think Ma and Pa Clinton would be proud. Chelsea deflected that question like Hillary deflected those Bosnia bullets. I got to hand it to Chelsea, the apple doesn't fall far from the infested tree.

mother too   March 25th, 2008 6:46 pm ET

Chelsea answered correctly, it is no one's business. It is cruel, inconsiderate to ask a child about parent's adultery, no matter what is the age of the daughter, son.
It is highly unethical to ask anyone anyway.

People just like to stick their noses in other's private life. How uncool!

It is better to think about the world, the economy, education, medical insurance, global warming, etc etc. These are Important issues. Not someone's adultery.

Mark Diplomat   March 25th, 2008 6:46 pm ET

Brave girl.

Fortunately, we will never need to have the Obama children defend their parents in this fashion. Good people of faith and belief.

Had the Clintons adopted some type of moral fiber, character, and belief system, we would never have had the Monica Lewinsky-gate affair.

Let's stand up for a candidate who addresses race and faith in a manner which Americans will and need to appreciate. We are diverse, we are ethnic, we need not be divided – and Obama is trying to raise our heads and our issues to the forefront in this election. Give him the chance.

Charlene   March 25th, 2008 6:46 pm ET

Wow, what a educated answer for a 28 year old to be in the public eye campaiging for her mother and such a rude answer!! It just show that she has no self confidence and doesn't have the ability to answer without affending other. Telling someone; " It's none of your business" is such a "bright" answer!!!! After all, they need to win votes and maybe
leaving Chelsea at home would be better than having her on the trail. She will do more harm by her answers than any good. I though that was totally out of line on her part and she would of been better off saying; "no" it didn't hurt her Mother's repupation. After Hillary wasn't there so that would of been a easy question to answer. Wow, what a answer!!! I was truly suprise in a negatvie way….not good choice of words.

Gil - California   March 25th, 2008 6:46 pm ET

It is none of their business if you think the Blue Dress Special hurt mama's chance at President? Then I'd have to say that you think it did. Of course, you were there with Mama in Bosnia when she lied about the sniper fire so why didn't you remind her of that at the time instead of waiting for CBS to catch mama in a bald face lie. Your mama says she misspoke…..ok, a lie by any other name.

What other experience has she misspoke about?
The she wouldn't have had Wright as a pastor? Guess that isn't a big deal since Carville believes your mama to be Jesus Christ.

A Proud and Free American   March 25th, 2008 6:46 pm ET

Hillaery should not criticize Obama for staying at his church. She knew about her husbands many cheatings with different women and she chose to stay with him. Who has the better judgemnet here?

Dr Charles   March 25th, 2008 6:45 pm ET

The question is not appropriate. However, what has McCain or obama got to do with it. GROW up people.

Dawn   March 25th, 2008 6:45 pm ET

Chelsea seem like a wonderful young woman.

However, she is campaigning for her mother for POTUS. The scandal referred to in the question was a public scandal of her father's. Her mother claims that presidency as part of her experience. It is a fair question.

Elaine   March 25th, 2008 6:44 pm ET

I agree that it's both rude and inappropriate to ask Chelsea this question, but why drag Obama into it?

Jan   March 25th, 2008 6:44 pm ET

Patriot: Obama is the candidate who has NOT resorted to nasty, everything but the kitchen sink tactics. Do not delude yourself.

Ryan   March 25th, 2008 6:44 pm ET

She is 28 and the Monica Lewinsky scandal was almost 10 years ago. While I do not believe it should be a big topic in the election, I do not understand why Chelsea would rudely turn down the question like that. It was a scandal that made the US look bad in the global eye and it should be addressed. Chelsea could've easily answered the question in an appropriate way and even turned it into a positive.

kathleen   March 25th, 2008 6:44 pm ET

Well, Chelsea, what do you think?
Mother did not leave because she was first lady?with money,
power, sweet life. Why leave that?Just blame "the other woman"
instead. Remember, Hillary it took TWO? It wasn't all the young
girls fault. I am surprised Monica didn't have to wear the letter "A'
on her back because of your furry and wrath.

OBAMA/EDWARDS 2008 or NO ONE.

Leah DiMarco, TX   March 25th, 2008 6:44 pm ET

Chelsea is NOT a child, she is almost 30 years old.
If she is going on the campaign trial then ALL questions are fair.

Hillary stayed with Bill after ALL of his affairs so her political star could rise. Now she LIES about Bosnia, she has lied about the Peter Paul vs. Clintons lawsuit currently in the California court system, she has lied many times before google and read them for yourselves. Where are the Clinton tax returns? Where are the Clinton ear-marks and library donor lists? Wake up America – vote Obama '08

Come on CNN and post this one!

Julie   March 25th, 2008 6:44 pm ET

I wish one of these candidates would open their eyes to the real issue. Which is FUEL! My husband and I both drive for a living I am a school bus driver and he is an over the road driver/owner operator. We both work very hard for what we have. I work full time from 6am til 5:15 pm working a split sift, and he workks 70 + hours a week not including doing his own maintanance on his truck on his day off. Well Senator McCain we are about to loose everything we have because of one commodity FUEL! Don't tell me I am frivolous and don't deserve a break! We will soon be one of those people that files for brankrupcy Because! we ARE both working. He is quickly going broke and can't afford his repairs and soon the school districts will not be able to afford transportation in our school district because of all the forcloseures. Wake up America its all about the FUEL!!!

2012   March 25th, 2008 6:44 pm ET

I think all you idiot Bacraporama supporters are just jealous 'cause Bill got something that YOU didn't!!

Kiki   March 25th, 2008 6:44 pm ET

Well done Chelsea.
We should askObama about his dirty deals with Rezko, his support of the racist Wright and the absence of saubstance. Obama will be smashed by the republicans if he becomes a candidate. remember McGovern. Dukakis, Kerry, Mondale, Ted Kennedy (that divided the party opposing t\President Carter) and all those supported by the extreme liberals that now support Obama.
Obama is non-electable in a general elction and will loose just like his predecesors.
The Clintons are the only winners in the democratic party for a long time..
Democrats for McCain is a great option for us. Already started in Florida….

Larry Buchas   March 25th, 2008 6:43 pm ET

I'm one Obama supporter who applauds Chelsea for dishing that one back in the gutter. Good for her to take a legitimate question.

Mavis, LA   March 25th, 2008 6:43 pm ET

LOL, someone expected an honest answer from the Queen of the Liars' daughter. Don't waste your time.

America 08

I support Obama , but that was WAY!!!!!! OUTTA BOUNDS.

alexa   March 25th, 2008 6:43 pm ET

You go Chelsea! You shouldn't have to answer that kind of question. Any regular person wouldn't want to answer it. Respect.

Go Hillary!!

Allan   March 25th, 2008 6:43 pm ET

Chelsea dear, you're an adult and you choose to publicly represent the candidate Hillary Clinton for the US Presidency, so it's time you 1) grow up; 2) speak to the press on the record; and 3) answer the tough questions as well as the creampuffs.

Your father damaged the country by lying about his infidelities and set the stage for a Bush victory, and now your mother is providing more aid and comfort to the Republicans by failing to concede the race to Obama and rallying Democrats behind the party's choice.

Cindy,CA   March 25th, 2008 6:43 pm ET

Good for you Chelsea! What is wrong with people when they think this is a question for Chelsea. Some people are starting to lack the common sense we as caring people learned when we were children. I wish we would remember that most people have feelings and treat them as we would want to be treated..Let's stop all this nastiness please…

Jeff   March 25th, 2008 6:42 pm ET

Now teach your mom the same answer. It is none of anyone's business.

nowhere man   March 25th, 2008 6:42 pm ET

Don't get too fond of Chelsea people – we don't want Bush,Clinton,Bush,Clinton,Clinton

manuela from PA   March 25th, 2008 6:42 pm ET

Big cheers for Chelsea, and for Hillary! what does a question like that have to do with the campaign but to throw dirty stuff on Mrs Clinton and that has nothing to do with the subject but only tries to demean her as a woman and to hurt Chelsea for what? The answers is the correct one:mean your own businessaudience member!
GOOOD FOR YOU CHELSEA!!!!

Can you say DIVISIVE?   March 25th, 2008 6:42 pm ET

Clearly an Obama supporter posed the question. They act "mightier than thou" but between this and "the blue dress" … it is clear that they will dig up and hurl anything to draw attention away from the racist and anti-American statements of BOTH of Obama's pastors. I find Obama "and his white men" to be the MOST dIvisive people in politics.

John G Charleston SC   March 25th, 2008 6:42 pm ET

It's "Butler University" not "Butler College."

Turn Out The Lights   March 25th, 2008 6:41 pm ET

Hillary has lost the election. She'll have to find another "project" where she can lie, and steal, and pretend she cares.

Turn out the lights, the party's over.

kelly WI   March 25th, 2008 6:41 pm ET

The question was about Hillarys credibility.
It is our busniness.
They are teaching her how to lie like they do.

S. Shay   March 25th, 2008 6:37 pm ET

Her answer was sort of rude. Why wasn't the question appropriate? Her Mom's campaign accused Obama's camp of 'Ken Starr-like tactics.' Her first lady schedules, which in her defense she tried desperately to hide, showed that Momma Clinton was at home while Bill was 'riding dirty' – (TM -Rev. Wright.) Now we find out that Bill sent Hillary and Chelsea to Bosnia because it was too dangerous for him to go. There they were greeted by sniper fire, almost losing their lives. How could Monica Lewinsky not be relevant? Maybe the questioner was entertaining the thought that maybe Bill sent Hillary and child to Bosnia so they could be 'sniped out' thereby leaving him free to date Monica with impunity.

I don't think Chelsea was being fair.

rachel in arkansas   March 25th, 2008 6:37 pm ET

LOL! Only the cushy questions for Chelsea, please.

dzyjne   March 25th, 2008 6:37 pm ET

OMG that person didnt ask her that!!! As a mom who has experience infidelity of a spouse, that is the last thing a child should ever be asked! It is no ones business not then and certainly not now!

Show some respect!!!!

Louis   March 25th, 2008 6:37 pm ET

With Hillary as a role model, I hope for Chelsea's sake that she does not become the type of woman who would be publicly humiliated by a cheating husband and stay with him only to further her career.

pablo rachi   March 25th, 2008 6:36 pm ET

yes, it is our business. both your parents are vying to be president

Steve in LA   March 25th, 2008 6:36 pm ET

Just like her mom and dad. Always refusing the tough questions. If you are out in the public, you should face the questions (and the press).

An American in Canada   March 25th, 2008 6:36 pm ET

Bravo to you Chelsea, again you make your parents proud and all Americans.

You are a strong, intelligent and dominant female that all young girls can look up to….

Do not permit those degenerates to divert you from you mission.

When the competition has nothing new to talk about, they get one of their minions to pose a redundant question about Lewinsky and her blue dress….

What has that got to do with Hillary R. Clinton for presidency of America.

It insults all Americans when such Gutter Politics raise their hateful head..

Joanna   March 25th, 2008 6:36 pm ET

Good for you Chelsea and shame on the person asking the question. If you must ask, wouldn't Hillary or President Clinton be the one to ask. Hillary and Chelsea were innocent bystanders after all.

Go Hillary…you raised a great girl and ask Jackie Kennedy said "if you fail at that nothing else matters" so…pat yourself on the back. Good job.

I hope all the media plays it

Hillary And Saturday Not Live   March 25th, 2008 6:36 pm ET

Saturday Not Live loves Hillary, and if you think about it makes perfect sense. SNL has actors who perform, Hillary "misspeaks" and performs. They should naturally pair off together. She can move back to NY and pretend she's the president, while the country moves to a better position with someone who will not lie to America.

Saturday Not Live & Hillary all the way!

Obama 08

Jane   March 25th, 2008 6:36 pm ET

The question was about the REPUTATION and YES that is Everyone's business. The questioner didn't ask how Hillary FELT!

These Clintons are all crazy.

Let me answer the question: YES IT DID! and that stain on the Blue Dress..? It's all over the internet… NASTY BILL!

Joan   March 25th, 2008 6:36 pm ET

Why on earth would that damage Hillary Clinton's rep. She wasn't "smoking cigars".

AllAmericankid, Marietta, GA   March 25th, 2008 6:35 pm ET

she's as mean as Hillary……They only take questions they are comfortable with.

Alessandra   March 25th, 2008 6:35 pm ET

I was present at Chelsea's campaign stop at Butler University today, and I have to say that Chelsea did an impeccable job speaking on her mother's behalf and answering questions from the audience. As an alumnus of Butler, I can say with certainty that this question regarding the Lewinsky scandal posed by a Butler student does not represent the Butler student community as a whole.

Elisabeth   March 25th, 2008 6:35 pm ET

I just love Chelsea – great answer of a stupid question :-)
From Hillary-supperter from Denmark

PITA   March 25th, 2008 6:35 pm ET

This question was well handled by Chelsea. Monica Lewinsky's behavior is no reflection on Hillary's reputation to suggest that it is shows a mean spirited mentality and a lack of life experience. After all, Monica knew she was chasing a married man.
Must have been one of Obama's followers in the crowd spreading the "word".

Darren P   March 25th, 2008 6:35 pm ET

How is this not their business?! It's a matter of public record, it has an impact on Bill's reputation, and the entire scandal ended in impeachment for perjury. This is a valid question that deserves a better answer than that. When you are up for a position in public life, your life becomes public.

@americans   March 25th, 2008 6:34 pm ET

that's a honest question Chelsea. but typical of the Clintons, they will never be STRAIGHT with the American people…always trying to lie and distort the facts to their political advantage!

SHAME ON THE CLINTONS!

GO OBAMA!!!!

Ki-Jana Carter   March 25th, 2008 6:34 pm ET

ArizonaSon   March 25th, 2008 6:33 pm ET

I support Obama( and hate BILLARY) BUT THAT QUESTION WAS WRONG.

AK   March 25th, 2008 6:33 pm ET

Chelsea's response was off the mark, and dismissive. Her mother's reputation is important to voters. The possible potential voter did not ask for details on the Lewinsky scandal, but simply whether it affected Mrs. Clinton's reputation. If I were Chelsea, the diplomatic and seemingly appropriate answer would be "I am sure it impacted her reputation in some way, however, I cannot speak to the level or type of impact. Regarding the scandal itself, please be clear I won't address any details related to it. Thank you."

Rich in Seattle   March 25th, 2008 6:33 pm ET

It became our business when he used the Oval office for his own personal love nest. Hillary is talking to leadership and integrity, this goes towards character. Bottom line, this is our business and if they don't like it then don't run for President.

Michael   March 25th, 2008 6:33 pm ET

Chelsea Clinton has the only shred of decency in the entire Clinton family. SHe should just tell her mom and dad "Keep me out of it."

I don't blame the student for asking. Free speech works both ways.

SJ Thornton   March 25th, 2008 6:33 pm ET

Too bad her mother won't drop out of the race.

JP   March 25th, 2008 6:33 pm ET

Hey Jack I hear someone asked Chelsea about Monica, and in true royalistic Clinton style she tells the questioner its not their besiness.Sorry to be the one to braked it to poor Princess Chelsea that it was her Farther who made it the peoples besiness by spening the peoples hard earned tax money to get him to Stop lying about it in the frist place.PS: I wounder could Micheal Jackson be her real Farther they kind of look a like.

John   March 25th, 2008 6:33 pm ET

I think a better response would have been "I prefer to not respond to that question" and then take another question but good for her for not responding.

Marilyn   March 25th, 2008 6:33 pm ET

I was wondering when this issue would come up. It's the elephant in the room. Hilary states she would have abandoned Reverend Wright. I would have abandoned Bill Clinton if he were my husband and cheated on me repeatedly and lied about it.

Shannon   March 25th, 2008 6:32 pm ET

probably a sleazy Obama supporter, they have no decency!

mary   March 25th, 2008 6:32 pm ET

Good for Chelsea, she handled the question beautifully! Anyways, what does Monica have to do with this election? Obama's supporters are getting desperate.

Robbie Williamson   March 25th, 2008 6:32 pm ET

Clinton argues that Obama shows poor judgement by forgiving the mistakes of his pastor and continuing to attend his church for 20+ years. How does this differ from her forgiving the extra-marital affairs of her husband, and continuing to stay in her marriage?

Edgar   March 25th, 2008 6:32 pm ET

Good for you Chelsea! I admire your for standing up against any below the belt campaign tactics that the other camp is initiating.

I cannot believe we are focusing on these trivial issues whereas we need to focus on the economy & healthcare, etc. Move on people!

Go for HILLARY!

SENATOR CLINTON IS LEADING IN THE POLLS!!!!!!

THAT IS WHY THE ATTACK MACHINE IS ON FULL SPEED!!!!!!

OBAMA'S CAMP HAS STARTED ALL THESE RUMORS FROM THE BEGINNING!!!!!

WE NEED TO GET BACK TO THE REAL QUESTION OF: WHO CAN BEST LEAD THIS COUNTRY!!!!

HILLARY HAS A STIMULUS PACKAGE OUT AND IS TRYING TO GET HELP FOR THE PEOPLE IN FORCLOSURE ETC..

WHAT IS OBAMA DOING?

SPREADING RUMORS!!!!!!!

GO HILLARY WE ARE WITH YOU!!!!!!!!

April in Texas   March 25th, 2008 6:31 pm ET

Well it was an honest question personal or not. Heck, I don't see why Hillary would stay with a man that lied and cheated except for politcal gain. You cant choose your parents but you can choose your spouse.

This seems normal for Chelsea though as I can understand the no reporters but geez not answering a 9 yr old who was a reporter for a school paper is going overboard. I would be excited that the young children who can not yet vote are even getting involved in politics. That just shows we have smart children out there.

Obama 08

DJ in TX   March 25th, 2008 6:31 pm ET

Sarah   March 25th, 2008 6:31 pm ET

I think that it is funny that this keeps coming up in relation to Hillary's candidacy. It seems to me that it is always printed in a story that rings negative but, to look at it from a morality view Hillary should be commended. It took a lot of guts and strength to stand behind someone who publicly humiliated you. I think Chelsea's response may have been a little blunt but this is a part of the past that truly needs to stay there. It is totally irrelevant to this election.

nadeem   March 25th, 2008 6:30 pm ET

Good for you Chelse.

An Obama Supporter

Wayne   March 25th, 2008 6:30 pm ET

It's a valid question becuase Clinton embarrased the party, the country, himself and his family. They shamed us. She got into office and then voted to send 4000 men and women to their early deaths. The war has not made us safer becuase we did not attack those who attacked us.

A Dem.   March 25th, 2008 6:30 pm ET

In all honesty, these questions are absurd. Can we get back to the issues and just get over any personal matters (Wright, Lewinski, Rezco the list goes on) Please just move toward a path to unite the party and not face a 3rd term in office by Bush. I am an obama supporter but disagree with negative campaigning from both sides of the spectrum and believe that we should vote democrat to save the party and save the nation in November.

Bethany   March 25th, 2008 6:30 pm ET

Hmmm, although I think this is a very touch subject the question could have been answered. The question wasn't about Monica Lewinsky it was about the scandal and the effects of that scandal on her reputation. Many women I've spoken with about Hillary Clinton cite her husband's cheating as a reason they won't vote for her. I think that's unfair. I'm not a Hillary supporter but I think her marriage to Bill, the Lewinsky scandal, and his wandering eye should be off limits in the presidential debate.

outsider   March 25th, 2008 6:30 pm ET

Hillary is throw trash everywhere. Why can other gid her trash a little bit?
If Hillary and Bill are spreading rumors, it's fair for other people to talk some facts. If Cheelsea supports her mother so much, she must be like her mother. Hillary has shown us recently she is a dirty lier.

ROGER MARCO ISLAND   March 25th, 2008 6:30 pm ET

I BELIEVE THE QUESTION SHOULD HAVE BEEN ASKED IN A DIFFERENT WAY, WOULD YOU HAVE DONE AS YOUR MOTHER DID? OR WOULD YOU HAVE ASKED HIM TO LEAVE AFTER HAVING SO MANY EXTRA AFFAIRS .

Tom in Philadelphia   March 25th, 2008 6:30 pm ET

Give me a break!

This 28 year old, Ivy League-educated, Wall Street working woman is not a little girl any more.

She is also not the humble, star-struck child that had the media spotlight cast upon her, unwillingly, all those years ago.

This grown woman is actively campaigning for a Presidential candidate. (This isn't a "Come Meet Chelsea — Wall Street Insider" speech; it's a "Come Meet Chelsea — Vote for her Mom" event. Hillary Clinton is the topic of the conversation — of course you are going to be asked questions about your mom). Chelsea wants to pose under the "Vote Hilary" signs, talk about how great her parents are, and convince you to vote for her mother in November. She, however, acts agasped if any of the questions are remotely awkward — or paint her mother in a bad light.

Please, Chelsean, save us the "deer in the headlights" routine of "fake surprise" and answer the — very legitimate — question. (Your parents are so much better playing the victim than you are).

phillip   March 25th, 2008 6:29 pm ET

Margie   March 25th, 2008 6:27 pm ET

As an African-American, I find your reporting on the Clinton/Obama campaigns patently unfair in favor of Obama. In fact, you have become so biased in your reporting, you actually make FOX news look liberal and Rush Limbaugh look normal.

TA   March 25th, 2008 6:27 pm ET

Sounds like a fair question seeing as how her mother answered the question about Obama's pastor.

Very Concerned American   March 25th, 2008 6:27 pm ET

That was such a beautiful sound to my ears.
She hit the nail on the head.
You go girl.

John P   March 25th, 2008 6:27 pm ET

I saw Chelsea answering questions at another University and I was very unimpressed her. Her parents are very smart, successful and astute people so I was hoping Chelsea would be the same, not even close. The answers she gave were pat and could have been given by any low level staffer manning the phones.

Someone needs to tell Chelsea that her mother is running for Presidents so anything to do with her mother's reputation is the business of the American public.

Pat Va   March 25th, 2008 6:27 pm ET

If one is running for a public office…ALL questions are fair. If not, then one should re-consider running for that office. That applies to the Clintons, too!!! CASE CLOSED!!!!

Jon   March 25th, 2008 6:27 pm ET

Can I just say that I think Chelsea's answer stunk. It was arrogant and dismissive, and once again illustrates the Clinton's insular bubble world-view.

Personally, I think it's worth hearing Chelsea's thoughts on the Monica Lewinski scandal. How has it affected her? How has it affected her family? Have they grown from it? Is it still bitter?

Anyway, we need to remember the real issue surrounding Monica-gate. It wasn't that Bill cheated on his wife, it was that he lied under oath and was caught red-handed. The Clintons have a reputation for stretching the truth.

deb   March 25th, 2008 6:26 pm ET

Good for you, Chelsea! I can't believe the gall of some people. First of all, to even ask such a question of the daughter is just plain mean but the question doesn't even make sense. How could something Hillary's HUSBAND did damage HER reputation!?? SHE didn't cheat, he did! Sheesh! If anything, it shows that she is capable of FORGIVING someone, a good quality to have. Contrary to what too many Clinton haters think, she does have a heart! And his cheating doesn't even begin to compare with the horrible things the current administration has done. They impeach Clinton for something probably 99% of the politians do everyday and yet no one has the nerve to impeach Bush! It's just crazy!

Ratgurl   March 25th, 2008 6:26 pm ET

Chelsea, the short answer would have been "yes".

Slappaho   March 25th, 2008 6:26 pm ET

another Clinton in denial……..at least Obama confronted the questions at hand….some of us did not like the answer but we knew where he stood at the end of the day……Obama is racist if you are looking for an excuse not to vote for him……who goes to church every sunday…….not even the pastor.
OOOOOOOOOObama 08

Kate   March 25th, 2008 6:26 pm ET

Good for you, Chelsea. What kind of nitwit asks a question like that of you, anyway? Congrats on your ability to be true and gracious.

zak   March 25th, 2008 6:26 pm ET

that was a legitimate question by an audience member. Instead of answering that question like a mature person, she resorted to a rude response. How many times have the Clinton campaign and others tried to smear Barrack Obama? Everytime he responds in a mature responsible fashion without resorting to "its not your business" child-like replies.

This is the reason why Obama is going to get the Democratic nomination and the Clintons will continue to cry foul every time someone asks them a legitimate question. The Clinton's should learn from Obama and understand how to turn negativity into a positive.

Tony   March 25th, 2008 6:26 pm ET

I am an Obama supporter but that is completely inappropriate. Respect Chelsea for what she is doing for her mother and leave the dirty politics to the candidates

Anna   March 25th, 2008 6:25 pm ET

if you can't stand the heat get out of the kitchen. or in your case get out of the white house. soon chelsea will be running for President. She was, after all, out dodging shots with her mom in Bosnia. Now she is dodging questions.
I just don't trust these Clintons……….

Realistic   March 25th, 2008 6:25 pm ET

One must feel sorry for this young lady having to defend the sordid reputations of her parents. Still, the question is fair game because it relates to character and whether one should have the chance to run the greatest nation on earth when she can't even keep her husband in check two doors down.

roy CA   March 25th, 2008 6:25 pm ET

well, actually chelsea it is the tax payers business when the dirty deed was done on government time and property paid with taxpayers monies. so you can't have it both ways. campaign for mommy votes but wont answer a potential voters question who most likely has paid taxes.

Amanda   March 25th, 2008 6:25 pm ET

Yeah, this does not shock me. So Chelsea Clinton can be arrogant and dismissive of her family and friends' history, but when it comes to Barack Obama's affiliates we should speak loud and clear? What an ugly way to handle the situation.

Now I am convinced, 100% that Bill Richardson is right about the Clinton campaign and I officially refuse to vote for Hillary Clinton in ANY circumstance.

If Hillary Clinton's campaign wants to throw stones, perhaps she shouldn't live in a house where her own husband was potentially up for presidential impeachment after his very public lies to the American people about his inproprieties in the Oval Office! Yet, hush hush, this is private.

Well, maybe she should avoid making such casting comments as "he would not have been my pastor," and remember how fine a line she walks on that memory of who "wouldn't have been" many peoples' husband.

Wake up, Hillary, you are not God and you are not the President.

McCain Clinton 08   March 25th, 2008 6:25 pm ET

hehehe Hilldog!!

Carlos, NY   March 25th, 2008 6:25 pm ET

I am not a Clinton supporter but that question was totally out of line to ask their child. Very disrespectful.

Don, Fl   March 25th, 2008 6:25 pm ET

Good for you Chelsea. My god how low can you Obama people go? UNBELIVEABLE

Dr Charles   March 25th, 2008 6:25 pm ET

Lewinsky is not an Issue. If Wright is an issue for Obama so is Jesse jackson for Clintons : O'Reilly calls Jesse Jackson a race-baiter. Jesse Jackson was personally called into white house to minister to the first family.

Both are non-issues, but, for hate mongers both are issues.

TROY   March 25th, 2008 6:25 pm ET

I WATCHED WOLF FOR 3 HOURS LL HE COULD DO IS BASH MRS. CLINTON, IT IS NOT YOUR PLACE TO INFLUNCE ELECTION. YOU AND DAN RATHER WOULD MAKE PERFECT PARTNERS YOU ARE DOING TO HERE WHAT AN DID TO BUSH

Sam   March 25th, 2008 6:24 pm ET

Not a Clinton supporter, but Chelsea was right to say that .

Ann   March 25th, 2008 6:24 pm ET

Lets wait for the Obamabots to cry foul and say Chelsea is a wimp for not answering. Perhaps it is implying some veiled criticism to Obama's patriotism?

That's how this race goes now…

TC   March 25th, 2008 6:24 pm ET

She should have just said "No" and it is our business now…

tomdavie   March 25th, 2008 6:24 pm ET

Good for chelsea. This is more dirty politics from the Obama campaign.

Obama is unelectable.

dcdude   March 25th, 2008 6:23 pm ET

Do the Clintons really think the Lewinsky affair will be off limits to the Republicans should Hillary get the election? They are chomping at the bit to relive that whole scandal.

Brace Yourself For More Scandals   March 25th, 2008 6:23 pm ET

Wolf, I know you support Hillary, but is this news? Bill Clinton's romp with Monica is a part of the dirty history that the Clintons brought to the White House. We don't need to repeat the awful scandalous administration from the past.

AJ - Winston-Salem, North Carolina   March 25th, 2008 6:22 pm ET

Good for you Chelsea, it is no one's business!!! Your mother will be the greatest President this country has even seen and I'm proud to call myself a supporter of Hillary Clinton!

TF   March 25th, 2008 6:21 pm ET

Ouch!! I think Chelsea will be the only Clinton woman who has a chance to run for POTUS. She answered that question better then her mother could have. Could you imagine what the bi-polar Hillary would of done.

Stephon   March 25th, 2008 6:21 pm ET

I think the question deserved an answer, because the answer given didn't go to the essence of the question, which was about Sen. Clinton's reputation. She could have simply stated that it hadn't harmed her reputation at all. I don't understand the disrespectful answer or the subsequent cheering.

ann   March 25th, 2008 6:20 pm ET

I don't like Senator Clinton, but that was really out of bounds. She loves both her parents and shouldn't be expected to comment on their marriage and his infidelities. I am glad she told them to buzz off.

wow   March 25th, 2008 6:20 pm ET

I guess the questioner must be perfect- Obviously never dealt with difficult relational problems.

The Clintons are a tight knit clan. That is the power of love.

She can teach the haters how to come together, dialogue, forgive and unite.

yns   March 25th, 2008 6:20 pm ET

Good for you Chelsea! You are right, it is absolutely NOBODY'S business.

Lorenzo   March 25th, 2008 6:20 pm ET

that got the party started. Daddy didn't know best on this one.

Lorenzo

Now Chelsea's Dodging   March 25th, 2008 6:19 pm ET

It's so wonderful that Hillary's teaching Chelsea how to deflect questions, just like she deflected bullets in Bosnia. That will really come in handy with two parents who lie every time they open their mouths.

Hillary is a liar, and now the world knows it.

America 08

Tina NC   March 25th, 2008 6:18 pm ET

NickNas   March 25th, 2008 6:18 pm ET

This little girl of protected privelege has to either Keep her mouth shut or make herself available to the REAL PRESS! She turns down simple questions from a girl less than 12 years old " Because she doesn't talk to the press" But can mouth off when ever mommy says she needs something said? I see it runs in the family!

Rheem   March 25th, 2008 6:18 pm ET

If you cannot stand the heat Chelsea stay out of the political kitchen.

Scott C   March 25th, 2008 6:18 pm ET

1. The Inappropriate affair that President Clinton had in the white house that led to him committing perjury in front of Congress and leading to him being impeached by the house of representatives and shaming this entire nation – Is not our business.

2. Obama, a man who is loves this country and isn't a racist, goes to a pastor with some controversial views – Is a huge deal.

Something is imbalanced there.

On one hand a president committed a crime and shames an entire nation.

On the other a man remains friends with a man for all the good things he has DONE, in spite of the controversial things he has SAID.

Which is the bigger issue?

love hill   March 25th, 2008 6:17 pm ET

Hillary has shown that she rises above personal pain and hardship.
She overcomes difficulty.
She has the faith to surmount huge obstacles.
She has courage and grace under fire.
She is a GREAT leader.
Hillary for president.

1. BILL CLINTON
2. HILARRY CLINTON
3. CHELSEA CLINTON
4. XXXXXX CLINTON – CHELSEA'S HUSBAND
5. CLINTON (JNR.) HAHAHHAA…

It is the guy's business to ask any questions about their leader's affairs while in power…I would have insisted!

For me, Obama all the way!!

Charles Hardeman   March 25th, 2008 6:16 pm ET

Good for you chelsea. Obama hypocrites take note.

n. miller   March 25th, 2008 6:16 pm ET

She needs to deal with the issue – her mother is bringing up Rev Wright – Her mother should have left Bill when she learned of all the affairs that Bill had and who knows if he isn't still slipping behind closed doors. She had a choice but made the decision to stay with a womanizer.

Don't want to discuss your personal issue – then I suggest you don't bring up someone elses personal issues.

Let's stop deal with personal issues and START DISCUSSING ISSUES THAT WE PEOPLE WANT TO HEAR ABOUT – I could care less about hearing something taken out of context. I could care less about someone exaggerating about an event – what I as well as millions and millions other want to hear is your idea of resolving this issues of mortgages, high cost of gas, and food. DEAL WITH THESE ISSUES and nothing else.

gary   March 25th, 2008 6:15 pm ET

That away to tell them Chelsea. It isnt anybody's business.Your a fighter just like your Mom.Thats garbage that Clinton haters and Obama's crew has to dirt out. Wait until the real truth about Obama is un covered.America hasnt any clues of how evil he really is.

Chelsea Clinton,

vic nashville,Tn   March 25th, 2008 6:15 pm ET

Good Job Chelsea Do what you have to do

Squigman   March 25th, 2008 6:14 pm ET

Good for Chelsea. Many of the vultures (who call themselves the media), need to be put in their place, and put there good. The news media in our nation seems to be on a self serving witch hunt, and hell bent on running (ruining) the entire nation for the sake of sensational stories. The news should be the news, not another entertainment outlet.

Robert   March 25th, 2008 6:14 pm ET

Enough on Lewinski, lets talk about the change Obama said he stands for. A report just came out and suprise, suprise. Obama is related to Bush and Chaney along with a host of others involved in Presidential Politics. Obama in the WH won't break the cycle after all.

Others he is related to include a prolific presidential lineage that features Democrats and Republicans. His distant cousins include President George W. Bush and his father, George H.W. Bush, Gerald Ford, Lyndon Johnson, Harry S. Truman and James Madison. Other Obama cousins include Vice President Dick Cheney, British Prime Minister Sir Winston Churchill and Civil War General Robert E. Lee.

Opps, just another from the clan after all.

Sazzylady   March 25th, 2008 6:14 pm ET

smarter than Jack Cafferty

Brian   March 25th, 2008 6:13 pm ET

It became the American public's business after Bill lied about the affair on national TV. I guess Chelsea can't take having any mud thrown at her either.

Yves larochelle   March 25th, 2008 6:13 pm ET

Chelsea, you cannot always have it easy!
The Monica related question is a valid one! It is about maturity, decency and respect for the office. Bill has shown us that he doesn't care. Why should Billary be better, now that Bill will have even more time.

A.Zukanovich   March 25th, 2008 6:12 pm ET

She is right! Mine nieder! I will not go to antiamerican church! If any arab-american or any white man make same comments like rev. Write, someone will knock on his/her Door and he'she will be arrested!

tough question, but she's an adult taking a very active role in a high profile campaign. she shouldn't have been caught off-guard. she missed a real opportunity to address this in a thoughtful manner. she will learn. i can't imagine the feelings she has from that episode in her young life.

Arthur-Texas   March 25th, 2008 6:12 pm ET

Hillary miss spoke…. No No No Hillary LIED!!!!!!!

Hillary does not know the truth.

Sean   March 25th, 2008 6:12 pm ET

Good for her, if Obama did not want the fact that he has attended a church with a racist agenda for 20 years then he should have left that Church a long time ago. I myself would have left in 2002 after Mr. Wright made his comment about 9/11, I would have left the Church over that even if I was not at Church that day and heard about it later. Obama choose to stay which tells us that he has chosen to support a racist agenda. I would never vote for Obama now, I would vote for McCain first

ann   March 25th, 2008 6:10 pm ET

Good for you Chelsea!!!

The Obama tactics of tearing the Bill, Hillary and now trying to attack Chelsea is getting old and it's making Americans mad!!!

Those of us who support Senator Clinton would of still supported Obama if he was to be the nominee. However, with all the recent relevations and the trash tactics of the Obamas toward Senator Clinton and her family has erased any possibility of gaining our support.

Senator Obama has shown to be his own false prophet. The great uniter has turned out to be THE GREAT DIVIDER of this nation.

Gil n Dallas   March 25th, 2008 6:10 pm ET

Way to go Chelsea!

Next Question:

Do you think your mother lying and overexaggerating her experience has damaged her repuation.

liz   March 25th, 2008 6:09 pm ET

I'm going to disagree – it is in fact that individual's "business." Ms. Clinton chose to run for political office, arguably the most high profile office in the world, I think the public gets to decide what is their "business" in this case.

Tim   March 25th, 2008 6:09 pm ET

6 times!!! While she was in the house! Exactly how many things are going on that Hillary doesnt know about? We dont need ANOTHER unaware Clinton who's blind to the terrorists sneaking into our country.

Lori   March 25th, 2008 6:09 pm ET

WOW

Her mother taught her well….
Scandles don't happen to the Clinton's
Just other people.

If you're on the campaign trail for your mother, you need to grow up and expect the unexpected and answer all questions.

But then again, you're mother is all lies.

Herman   March 25th, 2008 6:09 pm ET

Chelsea, I know it hurts you to talk about your dad Bill Clinton a former President of this United States of American has done a very bad thing when he stepped out on your mom Hillary.

His actions will go down as one of the worst in U.S. history of what he did in the Oval office. He has betrayed the trust of the American people who put him into office. I am sorry but your parents have not lived the kind of life that warrants them a second chance in the White House.

He has degraded all women and you in general by doing so, and I even voted for him.

Crispus   March 25th, 2008 6:09 pm ET

Doing it better than her mother…

dw   March 25th, 2008 6:09 pm ET

What a way to talk to your voters and supporsters. Is this just a taste of what the people can expect if the Clintons get the White house again. It was and is America's business since her father was the President and commander in chief of this country at the time.

gary   March 25th, 2008 6:09 pm ET

It shows the mortality of people in our country ,bringing up garbage like that to Chelsea. How would others like garbage brought up to them about their parents.Shows how childlish and cruel people can be.People like that should all follow Obama right to the dead end.

Will   March 25th, 2008 6:09 pm ET

The President of the US has an extra marital affair in the WH and now his coattailing wife is trying to get back in there and it's none of our business as to whether that hurts or helps her reputation?

I hope every college she goes to she gets asked the same question.

Someone should also ask her why her mother is still in the race when it's clear to every rational being she's lost.

Evie RC   March 25th, 2008 6:09 pm ET

Chelsea it is our business. You dad lacks integrity. I understand you love him, I understand you love you mother but how much do you love yourself? Tell the truth. The american people expect you to do what is decent and address the issues. You and your parents are public fiquires and we the public must have answers to questions such as these.

Michele   March 25th, 2008 6:08 pm ET

Awww….she loves her mama!!

Bruno   March 25th, 2008 6:08 pm ET

Wow. A hit below the belt to this young lady who is trying to help her Mom. The person who asked such a question is bad, miserable and unhappy person. I hope you can sleep tonight. With preachers such as Wright giving sermons as he did, no wonder America is like what it is – full of hatred and vindictiveness. With 20 years of Obama's wife listening to Wright's preaching, no wonder she is not proud to be an American – you ever thought of where Obama's wife got her feelings for America from?

First, Give Me $29.99   March 25th, 2008 6:07 pm ET

All I can say is, get used to it Chelsea. With all the lies your parents tell, you will be fielding questions forever.

But what am I saying, this is Hillary's daughter. She'll write a book, answer the question, and charge us $29.99 to learn the answer.

No thanks Chelsea, I know the answer.

Obama 08

Basanti   March 25th, 2008 6:07 pm ET

Hillary and Bill did a great job of brining up this wonderfully balanced young woman. They have had their share of marital discourse and its only in America that these issue take forefront than the actual issues. Such fluff-obsessed culture- in part explains why barack got such free ride for so long. People just dont think about real issues, but go gaga over fluffy speeches. Pathetic!!

GO HILLARY!

Anonymous   March 25th, 2008 6:07 pm ET

Actually Chelsea, I think this issue IS everyones business. I would love to see a woman president, but I will wait to vote for one with some backbone. A woman who isn't going to compromise her integrity to further her political career.

Bjoel   March 25th, 2008 6:07 pm ET

Why would Bill's affair hurt Hillary's credibility? She wasn't the one doing the cheating. Besides, it's quite the fashion now to cheat and be involved in sex scandals. Just look at both former and current NY governors. And let's not leave the Michigan mayor behind. Notice it's mostly men doing the cheating. That's why a woman will run the country soon………

Good for Chelsea.

BTW, there IS an ALTERNATIVE to Obama AND McCain if Hillary is not nominated

That's right…..Ralph Nadar!

A black separatist is not what we need in the White House right now. And as far as the sniper story goes, it is no worse than Michelle Obama saying Barack, as a black man, could be shot buying gas.

Exaggeration seems to be in both camps, so don't be hypocrites.

matt   March 25th, 2008 6:06 pm ET

what is all this crap about Obama being unelectable? To anyone who says that: Just because you wouldn't vote for him doesn't mean everyone else is as dependent on gossip as you are.

Also, why do i keep hearing this nonsense about obama sitting through hate speech for 20 years? If you saw the clips, you sat through just as much hate speech as he did – yes, voulantarily, of your own free will, at your own discretion, by virtue of your own choice, et cetera.

The difference is, you decided to HATE Obama (who didn't say it) because of it – wheras Obama simply decided to disagree with the person saying it (and hate no one).

the whole freedom of speech thing works both ways. You shouldn't hate any person for what they (or someone else, in this case) SAY. They are free to critisize america in any way they see fit, and you are free to disagree with it. You are not free to condemn the PERSON for their WORDS.

MCNEIL   March 25th, 2008 6:04 pm ET

GOOD FOR HER .THAT HAD TO BE AN OBAMA SUPPORTER…………….WHAT ABOUT $27,500 OBAMA GAVE TO HIS CHURCH……THE BIGGEST HE GAVE TO ANYONE………….WHO GIVES THIS KIND OF MONEY TO A CHURCH?….I WOULD HAVE GIVEN THAT KIND OF MONEY TO THE POOR ,NOT A CHURCH!!!!!!!!!!!

Cathy   March 25th, 2008 6:04 pm ET

Well she was very nice about the way she handled it, I'm so incredibly proud of Chelsea and the way she always always handles herself. Unreal somebody would say this to her. When you contrast Chelsea's behaviour and that of many others her age, you really see the contrast and the way she shines!!!!!!!!! Cudos to Bill and Hillary for the excellent job they have done raising this incredible young woman!

LatinoNation   March 25th, 2008 6:04 pm ET

Poor girl why do haters always have to make every bodies lives so hard? If the Obama people would have never mentioned this this poor girl would not have had to answer this! So then if Obama does something wrong lets ask his daughters what they think ? how mean spirited you people are ! all i can say is i will pray for you and i hope you can stop being a hater!

Alex   March 25th, 2008 6:04 pm ET

I think this is a clear example of how the Democratic primary contest has taken a turn for the worst.

Granted there is not much of a perceived difference between the policy positions of the two candidates particularly since Obama has been quite evasive on his true feelings and how he plans to turn his promises into a reality. But the desperate personal attacks his campaign are making are dragging the Democratic Party down the gutter.

Eddy   March 25th, 2008 6:03 pm ET

If Chelsea is not ready to answer questions she should retire to her comfort zone period.

Apple Doesn't Fall Far   March 25th, 2008 6:03 pm ET

Excuse me but the incident took place in the Oval Office. It, sadly is a part of American history.

It was a fair question, as far as damaging Hillary's reputation in the public's eye. Someone who knew her husband cheated on her, but chose to stay with him because she need his help to run for the presidency.

Dave in Alexandria, VA   March 25th, 2008 6:03 pm ET

While a personal subject, it was not a personal question. Any political analyst can answer the question:

No, it has not hurt Hillary; it has helped her by framing her as a victim of society and a victim of powerful men, and a loyal wife who put her family first.

I do not believe that any of these are perceptions are true, but politics is about perception, and Chelsea would have looked better saying "No. I'll take one more question."

janis   March 25th, 2008 6:03 pm ET

Good for you Chelsea!!

Reid   March 25th, 2008 6:03 pm ET

It's "none of your business" ?????? She does realize that her Mommy is running for president? Why would such a "strong" and "intelligent" women look the other way for so many years while her husband repeatedly cheated on her??? Maybe not so strong or intelligent? Maybe just another self loathing woman who believes that she deserves it for not caring about what makes her man happy? Why else would she not condemn her good buddy Spitzer when he got caught up in the "culture of degradation" of women hooker scandal. Oh, that's right, he paid for his girls while hubby Bill used his power to get freebies. Dangerous and damaged goods!!!

Kevin   March 25th, 2008 6:02 pm ET

"…First person actually that's ever asked me that question…"

Hmmm… Perhaps, then, it is actually a well-thought question worth answering. I would consider Mrs. Clinton's reputation relevant in the context of a political race.

Independent Observer   March 25th, 2008 6:02 pm ET

Learning fast from mama ain't you Chelsea?

michael, ny   March 25th, 2008 6:02 pm ET

Mrs Clinton gets this: Mr Clinton would not have been my Husband by now.

Kimberly   March 25th, 2008 6:02 pm ET

Awesome comment Chelsea!

GL   March 25th, 2008 6:01 pm ET

Mom's gotta be proud. She non-answers questions just like her. A real chip off the old block.

Move on please. More non-news items on CNN today.

Joe   March 25th, 2008 6:01 pm ET

Chelsea is a 28 year old woman. Can we please stop treating her like she is 12. Answer the question if you are going to be speaking on behalf of a prediential nominee.

kathleen   March 25th, 2008 6:01 pm ET

Well, wouldn't you????
Hillary is putting her in this position!!!!!!!!!!!
Would you do that to your lovely daughter, folks???
The questions are honest questions and cannot be hid under the
carpet.

OBAMA/EDWARDS 2008 or NO ONE

AKA for Obama!   March 25th, 2008 6:01 pm ET

So sad things have dropped to this level when children are asked to defend the actions of their parents! Come on!!!! Same on her parents for placing her in this most embarrasing moment! Too bad she couldn't just walk out on her parents! I think that would be my choice.

I LIKE this Clinton.

PATRIOT   March 25th, 2008 6:00 pm ET

Good for Her. This kind of garbage should not be part of the campaign. Nor is it appropiate to ask of our Children. I hope that my children when asked about their parents lives, will not only say the same thing, but also give the person a sound thrashing. Idiots like this one are the ones pushing for Obama. God help our Country.

xtina   March 25th, 2008 6:00 pm ET

the Clintons politics is about as far from my own as poss. but why drag Chelsea into Monicagate?

Mk   March 25th, 2008 5:59 pm ET

This young woman was sent out on the campaign trail on behalf of her mother and was not prepared to be asked this question?
I cannot believe that Clinton campaign would allow that to happen.

Mary   March 25th, 2008 5:59 pm ET

GOOD FOR HER !!
