Video clips of some of Wright's sermons have caused an uproar.

WASHINGTON (CNN) – The Rev. Jeremiah Wright, Sen. Barack Obama's controversial former pastor, has canceled his plans to speak at church services in Houston, Texas, this weekend in the wake of the recent uproar over portions of his past sermons.

Video clips of those sermons caused a public stir this month after being widely circulated on the Internet.

The clips in question include several racially charged statements and accusations the U.S. government has adopted policies to systematically oppress African-Americans.

This guy has really hurt Obama. He is a "permission slip" for anyone who doesn't want to vote for an African-American.

But he's more than that. He's a big question mark. And the question before the mark is, "How could Obama sit in the pew and listen to this guy for 17 years?"

Even Democrats, like me, who like Obama have to be wondering about him on this score.

I am an Obama supporter and I agree that the super delegates should vote according to their conscience and based on who is more electable in November. They should not blindly vote based on who wins most pledged delegates.

The reason we have Primary elections is to determine electability in November so guess what, Obama is proving that he is electable, which he has done against Ms. Clinton who was the presumptive nominee up until January. Hillary is the one who is unelectable. She couldnt even win the primaries, how can she win the General Elections. Besides she has the highest disapproval rating of any candidate. 45% of the electorate will never vote for HRC. So she only has a 55% electorate to work with. Both Obama and McCain have disapproval ratings of 26% and 27% respectively. Go figure who is more electable.

Democratic nomination was Hillary's to lose and she is losing it. How can anyone argue that she is more electable in Nov when she screwed up the primaries. It takes strategy and smarts to win elections… different strategies for primaries and general elections. Hillary has failed in the first test, and is now asking us to trust us with a bigger test in November. Obama is a once in a life time candidate who is winning against odds. And those of you who are calling him racist, you really belong in the other party, please vote for McCain whoever the democratic nominee is. I and an Obama supporter but will vote for Clinton, if she is our nominee.

So, the Democratic Party and it's attempts to gain an upper hand politically by exposing this man has left the Constitution in a shambles.

No longer can he practice his religion or speak freely. An avenue of income for him (speaking appearances) in his pursuit of life, liberty and happiness has been taken away. All in the name of gaining superdelegates. Shade of things to come in a potential Clinton administration?

You betcha! Just Google the Antiterrorism and Effective Death Penalty Act of 1996 signed by her husband. Key to this was the suspension of Habeas Corpus.

If anyone would care to look at reality (instead of Mrs. Clinton's Walter Mitty recollections of the past) the pattern would be evident.

Hey CNN. I think thats the first time where you mentioned that Wright's comments are only snippets and they are COMPLETELY taken out of context. But whatevs, maybe next time, to be fair, you should host videos of the whole sermons for people to make up their own minds instead of you feeding them out of context highlights.

Ok- to all people on this forum, BO, HRC and McC supporters- I ask you: Does anyone blame him for canceling?

Seriously…in light of all that's surfaced recently (true, not true; in or out of context), if I were him I would disappear for awhile. You can increase security all you want- it still only takes one very upset person with one bullet to make all the security null.

Despite anything he's said, again be it taken in or out of context, I don't want to see something bad happen to him or anyone for that matter. I can't imagine anyone faulting him for canceling public appearances right now.

Rev. Wright is being treated just the same way we used to treat Martin Luther King Jr. — Until we decided to listen to the full context of Martin Luther King Jr's sermons.

"The Americans are forcing even their friends into becoming their enemies. It is curious that the Americans, who calculate so carefully on the possibilities of military victory, do not realize that in the process they are incurring deep psychological and political defeat. The image of America will never again be the image of revolution, freedom, and democracy, but the image of violence and militarism. "

MLK, Jr.

educated_brutha   March 26th, 2008 2:17 pm ET

it's a shame that this Rev Wright is getting death threats regarding a snippit that was shown on YouTube..Has anyone actually listened to the entire sermon. I am so happy that we have Roland Martin who actually listened to the entire speech and reported on it. People are afraid to hear it because they are afraid that he is actually telling the truth. Black people have not always been treated right in America. Matter of fact, Wright's generation was segregated and beaten. Police dogs being thrown at them. So, why should Wright be so patriotic. He never said that he HATED America. America has some problems that need to be corrected if everything is going to be fair and consistent. I applaud Rev Wright for standing up and saying what America needed to hear. Obama has nothing to do with what his Pastor said in his sermon. Obama is his own man. Stop crucifying this man because of his Pastor's sermon. Obama is a lot better than that liar Clinton…Oh, I forgot she "misspoke." She is a joke!!

It seems to me that all the "rich white people" I know are struggling to make ends meet. Look, I am no fan of Obama, but if it comes down to it, I'll HAVE to vote for him. But no way can he win. Look what they did to Kerry and he was a Vietnam vet! All the repubs have to do is play Wright's "sermons" over and over and over again. Another loss snatched out of the hands of victory. Looks like he is back to doing what he does best, saying everything without meaning anything. The deal breaker for me was not the fact that he is an empty suit or that he was being coddled by the press to prevent him from answering any pertinent questions. As a former New Yorker> I was greatly offended that he sat through 20 years of Racial hatred sermon. And that he still refuse to denounce the man that blamed america for 911 while the remains of the brave civilians and firemen were still in Ground Zero. And as a father,I can't imagine exposing my young impressionable children to the kind of racial hatred speech that the pastor was preaching.I know it took me 2 seconds to tell my son not to listen to our guest pastor when he preached something offensive against another religion.Don't let this bigot lead this country,Vote Hillary,McCain(vote democrat for senate.)or stay home. I am not wondering at all about Obama's patriotism nor am I questioning Wright's undying love for the U.S. The furor surrounding the Wright snippets is nothing more than racism cloaked in patriotism. Wright served this country honorably in the Marines and the Navy. His words have been taken out of context by the various news mediums. This whole situation is a sad reminder the U.S. is in bad shape. My heart goes out to Wright, his family, and his church which he has dedicated a large chunk of his life to.

The problem of Senator Obama's relationship with his controversial pastor and church is not so much about race or even patriotism. It is a matter of trust. A virtual unknown, Sen. Obama's charismatic ability to deliver a message of change and unity has spread like wildfire across the political landscape. Upon closer examination, however, it becomes clear that Mr. Obama's rhetoric does not match his record. In neither his public nor private life has Sen. Obama demonstrated evidence of any such promise.

President Clinton supported Rev. Wright and invited him to the White House.

Rev. Wright is getting invited to attend and preach in many different other churches.

Clearly, Rev. Wright is being demonized by Hillary and the Republicans to tear down Obama and pit black versus white.

Oh, it's 3am and the red phone is ringing … it's Karl Rove - he wants his playbook back from Hillary because she is giving him a bad name.

Obama/Nancy Pelosi '08

Thomas, St. Petersburg, FL   March 26th, 2008 2:31 pm ET

I applaud "the Reverend" Jeremia Wright since he will make the history books.

He will be listed as the man who lost the 2008 presidential election for Barack Obama.

Gail   March 26th, 2008 2:32 pm ET

Yes it should cancel is apperance …

Shame on him for say those types of things in a house of god.

I will never vote for Obama .

I am a dem. and if hillary dosn't get the nomination I will vote for the Republican nominee.

kelly   March 26th, 2008 2:32 pm ET

This reeks of a political stunt to seek empathy/votes! Security concerns? Obama cronies have tried this tactic already.

ken   March 26th, 2008 2:32 pm ET

If Obama wants to win the general elction in Nov., he should go ahead with the revote in MI and FL. I believe that many Hillary supporters will go for McCain if Obama tries to impede the democratic process. It's about the economy and fairness, stupid!!

C. Vandenberg   March 26th, 2008 2:33 pm ET

. . . I don't blame him. The media is only going to spin everything that he says.

Obama 08.

Mary Sue   March 26th, 2008 2:33 pm ET

Rev. Wright is doing Obama and the universe a favor by canceling upcoming appearances. He is the argument against the right to free speech.

Sue   March 26th, 2008 2:34 pm ET

Hillary's pastor has DEFENDED rev. Wright!

Go read the letter he wrote defending him!!

Garrett   March 26th, 2008 2:35 pm ET

This is stupid! If rev wrong can't stand the heat then what makes people think the man he mentores for 20 years can????????

Hillary '08

John Smith   March 26th, 2008 2:35 pm ET

Trust me, someplace somewhere ther is a tape that shows Obama nodding his head in the pews while the reverand spews this garbage. And the Republicans will release it 3 weeks before the
election…END GAME!

james   March 26th, 2008 2:35 pm ET

I find it odd that the pastor either has not been given the time or has seized an opportunity to at least rationalize his comments in anyway. Personally i think a calm, rational interview with Wright would help this to go away if it continues to linger any further

robert   March 26th, 2008 2:35 pm ET

If news people like you and yours could look at the issues and not the muck then this dem. campaine would've been long over and the clinton would be hidding in a hole somewhere. Obama is the only canadate for this country and the rev didn't have anything to do with it the people are making there vote count. So get over it.

fred   March 26th, 2008 2:35 pm ET

Obama is from a church, where he sat for 20 years and listened to this man spewed hate against OUR country and the white people. How can anyone with anyone with two eyes and common sense vote for this person??

McBride, SLC, UT   March 26th, 2008 2:35 pm ET

You people are disgusting. You make me sick!!!!! No wonder people do not want to vote and be part of the political process. You and the media are not talking about the issues that are confronting this country. Blah Blah Blah and so this country goes. Yes, making people angry and your driving it into the ground. Yes, all of you idiots!

Chuck   March 26th, 2008 2:37 pm ET

Well Walter, I would say that unless you have not attended Rev. Wrights services on a regular basis but are basing your comments solely on a few snippets of tape run by the media then I would say you have no earthly idea what Rev. Wright preaches, how well he preaches, and why Obama would or would not stay with the Church. Get a life.

leslie   March 26th, 2008 2:38 pm ET

I guess today CNN is falling for all the spin out there today, from the gender card on the other headline, fuzzy delegate counts and one poll about switching parties….this is all reckless spin by the Clinton losing and desperate campaign. Senator Obama has addressed this is to its outer limits. Why are you not still talking about Hillary's lies or running a angry and beaten campaign. I forgot thats not the spin for today put out the losing Clinton campaign. Senator Obama will be the nominee and go on to win in Nov.

danny in califas   March 26th, 2008 2:39 pm ET

I hope the next time Rev. Wright stands before a congregation and speaks… he apologizes for his duragatory remarks against our Nation! We, as U.S. ciitizens deserve an apology!

obamamama - if I'm not mistaken Bin Laden said he attacked us because of our foreign policy so that would make Rev. Wright what???? correct.

As an African American I condemn Wright for his remarks and Obama for staying in this church. I would never allow my children to hear this hatered.

i want to see this thing on Mr wright, i havent seen anything.. where do i go?

T.DeMari   March 26th, 2008 2:43 pm ET

It was wise for Rev. Wright to cancel his scheduled appearance. However, the issue will keep coming up regarding Obama's poor judgement in not leaving the church long ago.

Bill Enuff   March 26th, 2008 2:43 pm ET

Is there any way he can give me back my Obama vote.

Buyers remorse is really nagging me.

Rev Wright has more hate that Dick Cheney….maybe Obama really is his cousin.

Allen   March 26th, 2008 2:44 pm ET

REV. Wright wil always be the one who will be remembered for bring down The Unstoppable OBama……..With HATE Foaming out of his Mouth and OBama not Disowning him, this will hurt for a long, long time…………

Tyra   March 26th, 2008 2:46 pm ET

Thank you, Disgusting media. I agree totally. I only wish some of his congregants would defend him on cable news, not just on NPR. I don't think other than really enlightened people listen that often to NPR so they don't reach as broad a crowd.

Richard   March 26th, 2008 2:46 pm ET

You are both liars.

Hillary 2008!

Amy in Iowa   March 26th, 2008 2:47 pm ET

CNN, Obama addressed this in his rally today. Why no coverage? In fact, why no coverage of Hillary's lies and her refusal to show her joint tax returns for the past 6 years? What is Hillary hiding?

Leah DiMarco, TX   March 26th, 2008 2:49 pm ET

People need to STOP saying that Senator Obama sat in a pew for 20 years. During that 20 years he spent time raising a family, 8 years in the Illinois senate in Springfield, and in the U.S. senate in D.C. He probably is like alot of people and only made it to church once a month or even a lot less than that. Betcha his average church attendence was more alike a few times a year! Not all people go to church twice a week like the Southern Baptists!

Kevin, fl   March 26th, 2008 2:50 pm ET

I want my vote back. If I would have known about Obama's judgement I would have never voted for him. I'm glad Hillary stayed in the race. Obama will be unelectable

danny in califas   March 26th, 2008 2:50 pm ET

Hey "truth hurts," Too bad YOUR truth is based on your own stupid ideology! Bin Laden committed a great crime because of HATRED towards the U.S. and Christians. How sad that you agree and condone Wright's and Bin Laden's actions/words.

MarySue22   March 26th, 2008 2:51 pm ET

No story about Hillary the Liar … LOL!!!

Paul   March 26th, 2008 2:53 pm ET

Based on Hillary's campaign, I will never vote for her. I am switching to Independent based on how the DNC has allowed the Clintons to run down the party. If the nomination is stolen from Obama in anyway but the majority delegate count, I will vote for the GOP candidate. I will not be taken for granted.

CARRIE   March 26th, 2008 2:56 pm ET

So what is McCain's healtcare plan? Well, this morning I heard him say on CNN "It would cost too much" Well I've got news for Senator McGreedygut, we deserve the same healthcare that you and the other public SERVANTS have. A vote for McCain is a vote for the elitist. Hey Mr. McGreedygut my kids and grandkids are just as good as you. Remember that good ole' quote, "all men created equal," Are you saying except in the good ole' USA??????

Pluto   March 26th, 2008 2:57 pm ET

Obama should quit race. There is no place for anti-americanism, including CNN.

Floridian   March 26th, 2008 2:57 pm ET

How is this news?

Its True   March 26th, 2008 2:58 pm ET

Its funny how people are so easily willing to chastise Rev. Wright when in fact, he probably has done more to better this country then any of you CNN couch potatoes commenting have ever done for this country. The man spent 20 years of his life serving the community, helping with the poor and Aids care.

How disapointing America can be, when they are on a witch hunt. Actions do speak louder than words. So go out and do something positive for your country instead of attacking a retired reverend.

gloria   March 26th, 2008 2:58 pm ET

The damage is done.

I watched Senator Obama when he said that he could not attend church . It is hard to believe that Pastor Wright has made such an impression on him that he could not attend another church albeit he was in St. Thomas Virgin Islands. But I am sure that there would have been many churches that would have welcomed the senator and his family to share in the Easter Services.

Pastor Wright is wrong and now it is time for him to exit as gracefully as he can.

CW in Dixie   March 26th, 2008 2:59 pm ET

Where were the Obama children when this man was slinging hate?

Uncle Sam   March 26th, 2008 2:59 pm ET

The problem here is less about race and patriotism and more about trust. Upon closer examination, it has become clear that Senator Obama's rhetoric does not match his record. In neither his public nor private life has he demonstrated evidence of any such promise. The presidency is too important to be taken lightly.

Curious   March 26th, 2008 2:59 pm ET

Hey CNN how about running a ticker on TAX RETURNS for the PAST 6 years????? Now There's a story… Like how common is it not to have this disclosed this late in a campaign?

Wayne, Greenville TX   March 26th, 2008 3:01 pm ET

I'm sure it was good Christian Republicans who phoned in those death threats against Rev. Wright.

Rush Goebbels   March 26th, 2008 3:02 pm ET

You never mention the hate Rush spews to his congregation of dittoheads.

Michael Guinn Ventura, CA   March 26th, 2008 3:03 pm ET

The Clinton Hate Club is well represented—Obama will be the nominee-and all your racism and hate won't change that- you should switch to the Republican Party since hate and fear are welcomed there!

jane e allen   March 26th, 2008 3:03 pm ET

in response to Hillary Clinton's memory of landing in Bosnia is nothing but another embellishment of her being involved in foreign policy . She trying to push more stories than actual events from her husband's presidency to her time in the senate..She has nothing more or nothing new to add to her campaign speeches. She is trying to avert questions in regards to her memory by trying to attack Sen Barack Obama 's campaign. Thank god Obama is not as desparate as Hillary is!!!

Mark   March 26th, 2008 3:04 pm ET

This man has single-handedly destroyed Obama's chance in the general election. Democrats will vote for anyone, even a racist, against the republicans. Independents will decide this election, and they are completely turned off by Wright's obvious racism and hate speech.

No Hillary   March 26th, 2008 3:06 pm ET

Teh pastor made some controversal comemnts and Obama set the records straight what he thinks and what is his position on this issue. For me this chapter is closed. So people stop arguing about that - go and find a different subject to discuss. Hey CNN… is it a slow day for you?

deroy   March 26th, 2008 3:06 pm ET

rev WRIGHT had to cancel since OBAMA was not available to write his speeches.

OBAMA leads a double life.

Trev   March 26th, 2008 3:06 pm ET

Jon:

I agree. I am a Clinton supporter, but of course I am concerned for Rev Wrights safety. There are a lot of nutjobs out there who forget that the point of politics is to solve problems POLITICALLY.

AJ, IL   March 26th, 2008 3:07 pm ET

Why is the media even reporting on Rev. Wright anymore? He's not apart of the Obama campaign. He's not a spokesman for the Obama campaign.

I am sure if someone looks hard enough we will find similiar elements of the 1960s Civil Rights and Vietnam War era mentalities in the older general public right now.

How sad.

akaDoug   March 26th, 2008 3:07 pm ET

Clintonazis, so glad that you have chosen to follow the media's command! The media says this guy is bad, you blindly agree, when the media says Obama's wrong you blindly agree…PATHETIC! No wonder the uneducated are voting for Hillary!

BTW you are filled with as much hate as Rev. Wright…threatening to bomb his church, threatening his life…VERY SAD!

Go Hillary   March 26th, 2008 3:08 pm ET

Hey CNN and BO what were you doing 12 years ago?

Sharon   March 26th, 2008 3:08 pm ET

TO: The truth hurts

You are asking what the Rev said that was "degrading"….please listen to what he said about Hillary and Bill Clinton…….if you don't hear degrading, then you are not listening. BTW….glad Hillary finally responded to the Reverend thing…She AND her husband were talked about by the reverend in extremely nasty terms….something Obama never even discussed….

Bonheur   March 26th, 2008 3:08 pm ET

I am so amazed at the racist comments on this blog. Obama gave a very enlightening speech on race and it's like nobody listened. This Reverend is not a hateful man, he just grew up in a time that apparently hardly anyone submitting on this blog would ever understand.

I attended a church many years ago where the pastor spoke not so nice about homosexuals, and I am gay. I stayed in that church anyway because he had other qualities that I admired. Although he didn't accept my lifestyle, he accepted me as a human being.

Obama is still our best choice!

Summer   March 26th, 2008 3:09 pm ET

I would think that Obama's campaign had encouraged Wright to tone down his rhetoric, since it's obvious the media would be watching his sermons. Wright must not have been willing to do that. People like Wright deserve to be marginalized. I hope he packs up and moves to Africa permanently. We don't need this kind of divisive message in the 21st century. Jeremiah Wright is educated, rich and in a position of power, a story of "yes, you can". Yet, he told his parishioners every Sunday, "No, you can't". He made a fortune off keeping his own people down.

MCS   March 26th, 2008 3:09 pm ET

CNN once again telling the public what to think about

Monte   March 26th, 2008 3:10 pm ET

Rev. Wright was not talking about race, it was a true HATE speech against my country. Obama managed it turn it into a race issue, knowing that white people are afraid to talk about race for fear of being labled a racist. Blacks can say anything they wish about whites, but we are suppose to keep quite. Sorry, but American is also my country!

Steven/Kentucky   March 26th, 2008 3:10 pm ET

What ever happen to separation from church and state? You could investigate Senater Clinton's church history and McCain's. All Christians have set under poison doctrine from time to time. If Christians up and ran everytime our Pastor's speak something wrong then the Church houses would be empty. I think it is a shame that we are talking about this when there are more important topics.

Steve

Robert in Toronto,ON   March 26th, 2008 3:18 pm ET

Wasn't this arguement presented earlier from Clinton fans to "move on and stick with the issues?"

So DO IT and stop all this Rev. Wright comments. The issue has already been addressed so now it's time to move on!

BSY   March 26th, 2008 3:19 pm ET

Is CNN's Comment Policy "code" for a certain type of censorship? I asked a question about Hillary Clinton's spiritual advisor based on some pretty extreme comments I heard on a different news station. I made no controversial statement, requested clarifying information, and used no profanity or suggestion of profanity. I'm amazed at the hatred and ugliness of some of the comments on this site ~ yet my question is not addressed. I am new to this, so perhaps questions are not permitted ~ only opinion?

Linda Li   March 26th, 2008 3:22 pm ET

Yes, because chanting "God bless America!" is the only way people can show how much they love the country.

Out of all the idiotic things Americans do, calling each other "unpatriotic" and "un-American" is by far the most pathetic.

Walt, Belton,TX   March 26th, 2008 3:22 pm ET

I just don't understand why so many people are upset by what an insignicant doofus has to say. Jay Leno and Dave Letterman very aptly put this self proclaimed wonder into proper perspective.

Ed   March 26th, 2008 3:23 pm ET

CNN- do you edit out anything , like my last comment, in which someone says they are not christian??!!

Again, I am sick of the arrogance Christians display about the importance of their religion in our politics!

Obama has been chastised for what his preacher said, it turns my stomach that it may end his candidacy.

I mind my own business regarding my personal religious feelings, and I am sick of hearing that being Christian or going to this or that church should have anything to do with government in the United States.

Janel, St. Paul, MN   March 26th, 2008 3:23 pm ET

I am appalled by some of the comments on this news piece.

The Reverend Wright is a Christian pastor who should be respected for his faith. Certainly some of his remarks were ill-advised, but that he and his family should be threatened in our free country is disgraceful.

boisei   March 26th, 2008 3:23 pm ET

"will you all please leave this man in peace? people spewing the same hatred we see on this board are now threatening Rev. Wright's safety. whatever you may think of his statements, he is entitled to make them without fearing for his life."

what? dude brought this upon himself……yes he is entitled to act and talk like a fool….

Amy Jacobson   March 26th, 2008 3:23 pm ET

So now you want Americans to listen to the whole sermon to get the "facts" while both Democratic candidates have been touting "stay in Iraq for a 100 years" since the first day of the elections? Seriously pathetic people!

It does hurt to take things out of context, doesn't it? ;-)

Floridian Voter   March 26th, 2008 3:23 pm ET

HRC made several references to that story including February 29th speech, yet CNN allows her to simply say she mispoke last Monday?

Hillary will not just be our Nominee, but the next President of The United States of America

OBAMA is the one playing dirty politics. He is the one telling one thing about NAFTA to the American public and a complete different story to the Canadians. Did not he say that his position on NAFTA does not actually respresent change in policy but actual political maneuvering through his surrogates.

Obama, you know you are no longer electable thanks to your antiAmerican pastor. What change are you talking about when you bring your children to church every sunday to hear to the hatred of such biggot.

HILLARY 08!

Carl   March 26th, 2008 3:26 pm ET

I find the negative comments on here shocking. Are they truly genuine? Or just people who would like to see Obama fail spouting lies? If it's the later I've got to warn you all it won't work. Readers like myself can see through all the half-truths and downright lies that some posters (Pro-Clinton, mostly) are working diligently and DESPERATELY to spread.

The Sermons were from 2003, they were taken out of context and it's so small in the scheme of things….

The media is doing what it does Best Getting away from the point. Jeremiah Wright is not running for any office, Obama is.

The question is can this man run our Nation, NOT do we like his what his pastor said FIVE YEARS AGO.

In Our Last Days!!!!   March 26th, 2008 3:27 pm ET

This has gone too far!!!! How is threatening to harm Rev. Wright, his family and/or do something to his church justified? Hillary and McCain supporters…are you happy now? What if it was your family being threatened? So people are trying to instill fear in Rev. Wright, like the you know who did many decades ago.

Life is bigger than Obama, Hillary or McCain. Rev Wright has said some out of line comments, but for his safety to be compromised is ridiculous.

If something was to happen to Rev. Wright, I think that there would be an outrage across America. For those who are threatening him, you are no bigger than Rev. Wright.

I just pray that GOD continures to have mercy on our soles.

JC   March 26th, 2008 3:27 pm ET

This is just one more reason that Obama cannot be trusted…we don't know enought about him… He talks a good game but the character he displayed with this singular event. Speaks volumes of his character.

If Obama gets the nomination…I'm voting for McCain…and I've been a democrat my entire life.

The sad thing is that Hillary has already LOST. Her supporters are delusional about where we are in the race. They are seeing a mirage in the desert by attacking Rev. Wright and they think this will save them. Let go gracefully folks… let it go.

Kathy L Jackson in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania   March 26th, 2008 3:33 pm ET

My third submission of this. Please Print !!!
I can't believe the ignorance of some of our fellow dems. If I had a nickel for every time I've heard the phrase" why didn't he just leave?" I could take a day off. Those of you with the deer in the headlights experience after hearing the spliced together snippets of several powerful sermons in which Rev. Wright mostly quoted others, including a former caucasian diplomat named Peck, I have one thing to say to those excluding the staunch bigots: "be ye seekers of the truth". locate these sermons and listen to them in their entirety. Then just TRY to imagine your existence as the "other" person: supremely gifted with God's blessings, yet thwarted at nearly every juncture of life. Educate yourself on the history of this country and it's policies toward its citizens of 'other" ethnic backgrounds. We all know that what the Catholic church has done concerning some of its priests is criminal!! Though some left in disgust, others stayed for the principles of their faith. Ethnic difference is a tough subject to brooch. We simply must put into practice every cliche we've learned about putting our best foot forward, unite, or perish together as fools. If you haven't noticed, we're halfway there. Hillary's campaign is a trainwreck! But don't cut off your noses to spite your faces. MCCain is simply NOT a viable candidate. At this Easter season, I've observed many parallels with Jesus' and Obamas stories, yet some of us would rather wander and continue to sin in the desert than to recognize and accept our apparent deliverer. Barack the Vote!!!

robin   March 26th, 2008 3:33 pm ET

It's sad that America cannot tolerate the freedom of speech. Whatever Wright said is not against the law. People are so blindly patriotic. Anything can be mis -interpreted as anything, even remotely irrelevant. No wonder Americans can be supportive of the cruel and immoral war, even the truth came out contrary to Bush's war excuse.

Vega, Celso   March 26th, 2008 3:33 pm ET

Wake up democrats, a vote for Obama is a vote for Mc. Cain, only Hillary Clinton is the candidate who can overcome Mc. Cain and the Republicans, please don´t play a loser game. America need a real turn round.

Obama Mama   March 26th, 2008 3:33 pm ET

CNN you are encouraging, and inflaming the racist rhetoric by harping and replaying news about Reverend Wright. Whoever owns your station must subcribe to the "double standard" that exists in America where a black man's words are interpreted differently than a white mans. But that's news to you….no matter who it hurts

I support Obama but I need to hear why he chose this guy as his campaigns religious advisor? Is Wright going to be visiting the White House if Obama is elected? Will he give invocations at events?

Why are posting peoples complaints about censorship instead of their posts? you have my email address… feel free to explain your criteria for posting to me. I would like to think that all my typing is not just finger excercise.

Racism looking for a reason to hate. You have been made to believe that you have found it. Keep it up and throw the baby out with the bath water.

That's the difference between a candidate making a mistake and the other shooting his foot by:
1) Keeping silent, in the hope the bubble will not burst.
2) Denying ever hearing inflammatory sermons.
3) Recalling the inflammatory sermons and condemning them (after the fact and after the initial denial).
4) Comparing a poor old grandmother to: (A) pastor Wright & (B) to a "typical white woman".
5) Refusing to disown pastor Wright.
P.S.: Oprah, at least, had the GOOD TASTE of cutting her ties with pastor Wright and his Church.

I hope all the people on here blogging on this saying hateful things about a human being are retards because I REFUSE to believe that grown adults could be so hateful and racist. If you guys are adults then I'm glad that I'm smarter as a teen than you'll ever be! They say it's only uneducated people who support hillary and you monsters prove it true every day! I'm thankful to be born to smart parents who give people and candidates a CHANCE before turning on them. You grownups on here SUCK

One poster is right…… the world hates America because we go all over the world promoting a sham. Saying that we treat all people the same…when they can see in our own country this is not true. How can we expect to get respect when it isn't given to all of aour citizens?

PPL!!! Rev Wrights words were not taken out of context! Those videos that are out of him speaking hate and racism was produced by the church!!! They were on a DVD that the church was distributing to ppl to get them to attend.
