Clinton and Obama are tied in the latest poll.
Clinton and Obama are tied in the latest poll.

(CNN) – The increasingly charged Democratic race for the White House appears to be hurting Hillary Clinton significantly more than Barack Obama, a just-released poll suggests.

According to a new Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll, the New York senator's personal approval rating has dropped markedly, and those that hold a negative view of her have reached 48 percent — the highest in that poll since March 2001. Just 37 percent now have a positive view of Clinton — down from 45 percent two weeks ago.

The new poll comes at the end of one of the most hostile months in the Democratic presidential primary race, during which surrogates for both campaigns resigned after uttering controversial statements, and controversy swirled around Obama over past statements by his former pastor, Jeremiah Wright.

But despite fears by some of Obama's backers that the Wright controversy would take a toll on the Illinois senator and his presidential hopes, the new poll shows his approval rating has remained virtually unchanged at 49 percent. Only 32 percent of Americans give him a negative approval rating.

Meanwhile, in head-to-head matchups Clinton and Obama remain deadlocked for the nomination, each drawing 45 percent among Democratic voters. Both are also statistically tied with John McCain in matchups: Clinton is two points behind the Arizona senator while Obama is two points ahead — both within the poll’s margin of error of 4 percentage points.

I'm glad my fellow Americans are finally seeing this as an opportunity to get rid of the same old politics!

We dont want to be lied to by shady politicians, sorry Hillary!

midwest and dutch   March 27th, 2008 10:59 am ET

Obama pollsters are missing a point that is just below the surface. The Rev. Wright business has moved many people from being "strongly in support" to "barely in support". Againist McCain, that is not enough.

Go HILL!   March 27th, 2008 11:01 am ET

YOU LIARS…
Do you know what cracks me up lately….CNN you are so totally BLIND by your own bias lately, you can't see straight, you can't see what's in front of your face. Can you please explain Anderson Cooper's BADGERING of Hillary's supporter on 3/26…trying to get her to say negative things about Hillary, and when she refuses to give in to him, he accuses her of not answering his question and turns the question over to Obama's supporter???? ARE YOU FOR REAL? ARE YOU PART OF THE "BEST POLITICAL TEAM"????? ARE YOU KIDDING ME? ARE YOU A TRUE JOURNALIST OR DO YOU WORK FOR OBAMA??? She answered your question! Then, I ABSOLUTELY LOVED THIS, she got right back at you and let you have it….WHY didn't you ask Obama's supporter the same question about OBAMA????? You CNN "guys" cannot see in front of you…..YOUR BLINDED BY YOUR OWN BIAS….BTW, nice to see AMY and the other blatant Obama supporters get all upset when CNN ACTUALLY has BOTH sides represented in your discussions….they have ALL been soooooo used to saying whatever they want and having EVERYONE around them just agree and add to it….when THEY are actually challenged about what they say, they CAN'T handle it! …..NICE TO SEE HILLARY SUPPORTERS ARE FINALLY GETTING AIR TIME ON CNN…….ALSO….we voters are soooo tired of the claims…."I've talked to senior Clinton aids and they say…..I've just got an email from top Clinton people……When I talk to Clinton supporters they are telling me"….and so on….how come you NEVER say WHO you actually talk to?????? Is it because YOU DON'T ACTUALLY TALK TO THEM???? IT JUST MAKES YOUR POINT STRONGER???? Talk about liars….WE don't believe you anymore! VOTERS are much more intelligent than you think, CNN….sorry to burst your bubble.

You may want to start reading your own blogs, Anderson….on 3/26, I read through EVERY one….the vast MAJORITY that wrote about the polls you showed accused you of bias with your fuzzy poll numbers….you used NBC's polls to prove YOUR point….GIVE ME A BREAK! NBC LOVES Obama more than you guys! What, are you sooo afraid of Gallup and Rasmussen????? REAL pollsters!!!! Go look at Obamas tanking general election numbers….down against John McCain…5%, then 7%, then 8%, NOW 10% over the last weeks…..NO coverage of that? What happened to CNN's DAILY update of THOSE polls? That was Obama's GREAT claim! HE was the only one who could beat McCain! REALLY???? Wow how times have changed! CNN, you have GOT to realize something…we are NO longer in the TV age….YOU cannot manipulate the voting public the way you used to….there are SOOOO many different avenues now for getting COMPLETE information on the internet…..CNN is NOW looking like a JOKE….WE can now IMMEDIATELY check on ANYTHING you say on the air….WE often get the info before YOU report it……laptop in hand while we watch YOU.

BTW, the "supposed" NEW poll showing 28% of Hillary's supporters going to McCain IS NOT NEW! One of Hillary's supporters TOLD YOU about a poll WEEKS AGO during one of the nightly primary election coverages….HE SAID "What Obama needs to look at is the recent poll showing 24% of Hillary's supporters going to McCain if she doesn't win the primary." That number has stayed CONSISTENT! Yet again, CNN BLINDED by your own BIAS! I heard the number that night, DIDN"T YOU EVEN LISTEN THEN????? This poll didn't just magically appear because the primary has dragged on longer than anyone thought it would! IT HAS BEEN THERE ALL ALONG! And I can tell you it has VERY LITTLE to do with poor "bloodied" Obama….It is simply because McCain has EXPERIENCE and that's what Hillary supporters want! McCain is MODERATE! HE'S RESPECTED! Don't you get that? You can try all you want to blame this on Hillary supposedly "dragging down poor Obama"….sorry but Hillary's voters DON'T buy that. Never will. Obama has belittled her OVER and OVER and OVER….."You're likable enough, Hillary….I can get your votes, Hillary, but you can't get mine"…..Snubbing her at the State of the Union…..on and on and on……..THAT is another reason Hillary supporters are NOT going to vote for BO…..ALSO….I am well under the age of fifty….I DO make well OVER $100,000…I AM WELL educated…I own my own business…..I live in the South….AND I SUPPORT HILLARY RODHAM CLINTON FOR POTUS! She will be one of the BEST Presidents our country has ever seen!

Why don't you run the coverage of Obama telling everyone "I'm pretty confident that I can get Hillary's supporters to vote for me, I'm not so sure she can get mine…." Run THAT then put up the "NEW" POLL NUMBERS YOU LOVE SO MUCH! :) So funny also, when CNN covers Republicans voting for Obama, it's "He's able to win cross-over voters"….BUT if Hillary gets independents OR Republicans to vote for her, then there is something "wrong" going on……cracks me up.

Where is your story about how Obama has a HUGE PROBLEM? HE can't win the General Election! He will not have Hillary's voters! YOU covered story after story saying how Hillary would NEED Obama in the General, but how Obama would NEVER need her……..HOW DOES IT STAND NOW?????? You guys are looking sillier and sillier covering this election!

Lisa in Canada   March 27th, 2008 11:01 am ET

Telephone in the White House master bedroom at 3:00 AM: RING! RING!

Hillary: This is President Clinton, may I help you?

Caller: Madam President, this is General Smith. We have just learned that the North Koreans have launched a nuclear attack aimed at New York City, the Iranians have invaded Iraq and the Chinese have demanded that the United States buy back all of our Treasury Bonds!

Hillary: Bill, it is for you.

Hade Enough.   March 27th, 2008 11:01 am ET

All those two do is argue with each other. They never seriously talk about what they can do for the Country, anymore. I have been a life long Democrate, but I'll be voting for McCain. I don't think either of the two are ready to be President.

AJ   March 27th, 2008 11:02 am ET

The negativities don't bother her and her campaign. In Hillary's world, the end justfies the means. Anything goes!

Robert in Toronto,ON   March 27th, 2008 11:02 am ET

Of course the polls show her in a negative light! More and more Americans and those of us around the world watching this nomination have seen how low she's willing to go in this "all-or-nothing" mentality her AND her surrogates have taken!

Even as you watch CNN just listen to the Clinton backers on the show. When Anderson Cooper or Lou Dobbs or Wolf Blitzer asks them a question, they NEVER answer it directly and always put out the answer that toes the Clinton campaign: one that upholds their candidates and put's down Obama.

It's actually quite hilarious.

Anderson Cooper: "Hillary Supporter, do you feel as though Sen.Clinton is just bringing up the Reverend Wright issue to deflect attention from her misspeaking about the Bosnia sniper fire?"

Hillary Support: "Well, Senator Clinton was just answering the question about what she would do if Rev.Wright was her pastor. Not what someone else would do, just what she would do! And boo Obama"

AC: "But she was clearly reading off prepared statements. If this was a random question, how did she have a PREPARED STATEMENT TO READ? Doesn't that mean she planted that reporter to ask the question?"

HS: "I don't know what you're implying Anderson. It's just coincidence! And boo Obama."

AC: "I'm sorry..but are you saying "boo Obama" at the end of every statement?"

HS: "Who? Me? I have no idea what you're talking about. Boo Obama."

AC: "Okay…. Do you feel that President Clinton is seen talking too much since it really is Hillary Clinton running for election? He's implying also that he wants a "good ole' arguement" but in the same breath says "well they're attacking a girl". How do you respond to that?"

HS: "Ummm….boo Obama?"

AC: "Right….thank you for your time Hillary Supporter."

HS: "Thanks Anderson…boo Obama." :-D

For every kitchen sink she throws two come back. The New York Times had a good opinion article this week: The long defeat. Bottom line: can Hillary escape her own Clinton political machine and step out the race for the benefit of the Dems?

Fla Sam   March 27th, 2008 11:03 am ET

I am so glad that everyone is starting to see her for what she is. She will say or do anything to try and hurt Obama’s image. Hillary is only looking out for herself and this is what she will do if she becomes President. It is time for a change America.

This thing is a wrap, she's desperate and the country's desperate for change. Its to time for her to drop out… she can't win, she's like Huckabee but with higher numbres…

Obama '08

news flash   March 27th, 2008 11:14 am ET

Obama has tried to portray Clinton with a number of unseemly adjectives that manage to stick, whereas anything that comes his way (Wright, Rezko, etc.) seems to fade, primarily because of the media. Remember it was the media who told us what a brilliant speech Obama gave about race, (brlliant manipulation that is). And for some reason it's alot more fun to beat up on a woman, especially this woman. That's why President Clinton has made the remarks he has about the race. If you gauge the internet articles that are negative about Hillary vs Obama, it's about a 3-1 ratio. Again, it's because of the media' inexplicable tendancy to coddle Obama and throddle Clinton.

Lilia, from MD   March 27th, 2008 11:14 am ET

It is very true. As an Independent, I use to be excited about the debates and the campain trail. Now as soon as I see specially the Clinton's face, I turned away, I am not interested in what they have to say. I am just so sick and tired of Carville style politics. I don't understand what is the difference from any other third world country power hungry leader, where they don't want to admit that their electability chances are over; so what they do, they THEY HIJACK the nomination or start civil unrest and infigthing.

Dallas   March 27th, 2008 11:15 am ET

what demographics are we polling? how many people participated? this is only ONE poll. the "poll" in my office is totally opposite.

Fabienne   March 27th, 2008 11:15 am ET

Well, Finally we can see through the Clintons. It's time for the NewYork Senator to step out and let Obama reunite the party that she has stongly trying to divide.

We need a stable president with great jugment. Not a wild cat who set fire on anything she can put her hands into. We need a negociator not a fighter or a divider.

Kevin Leo (Jonesboro, GA)   March 27th, 2008 11:15 am ET

Pretty incredible to see her ratings reach George W lows!

Tex   March 27th, 2008 11:15 am ET

Is it any surprise that the negativity by Hillary and her hit men, Bill and Carville, are pulling her down? Her own "misspeaks", the continuing dirty tricks tactics a la Nixon, the racist attacks by Bill against Blacks in South Carolina and Carville against Hispanics (i.e. the "Judas" accusation towards Governor Richardson) and Bill's most recent childish pronouncement to "saddle up and have an argument" are just the part of what is causing Team Clinton's critical meltdown.

According to this same poll, Hillary is beginning to lose her support among women. Perhaps, what women wanted was a Female Democratic candidate for President who would do things differently than her male counterparts. Surprise, surprise, they have found Hillary more "one of the guys" than the guys themselves.

Maybe Bill will next call for a "pissing contest" , fist fight, arm wrestling, who knows? We all know Bill likes it down and dirty. Obama supporters and apparently defecting Clinton supporters want the tired old politics of the past to end. Obama's vision for a better America and what we as people can become is starting to make major inroads in spite of the smoke and mirror distractions of Hillary and her hit men. His message is beginning to resonate to the Clinton Superdelegates and Clinton elected delegates who Hillary says are not bound to her anymore.

Shelli   March 27th, 2008 11:15 am ET

Hillary blatanly lies…all the time…about things she doesn't need to lie about, yet she feels it makes her look good…until she's caught up. Barack gets bashed for things he didn't even say…lets hope the media keeps on blasting Hillary for the lies falling out of her mouth. I use to be a Hillary fan..until she started showing her true colors. Wow what a vindictive and bitter woman she is!

LionHeart(Ft Worth)   March 27th, 2008 11:15 am ET

Unfortunately for Hillary, her camp decided a few weeks ago to change from a strategy of focusing on the issues to focusing on Obama the man. At the same time, Obama struggled to keep the personal negatives out of the race and to maintain a level of respect that would keep both candidates above the fray of "routine" politics that we all abhor. As democrats, we cannot let the routine politics divide us because there is a lot more at stake. The polls state that 44% of democrats will not vote if their candidate does not win the nomination. Ridiculous. McBush will win and continue four more years of a war without a true plan, a stagnant economy while the richest 10%-25% pay "0″ taxes leaving the rest of us to pay the bills, increasing fuel prices while gas companies continue to earn exorbitant profit amounts, declining employment opportunities, and healthcare system that is virtually unobtainable for low income (and some middle income) earners. Is this what we want?

Her negatives are high because her ethics are so low they are nonexistent.

And this is before many people have heard about the Peter Paul lawsuit which is going on RIGHT NOW. Campaign fraud.

Why has the news media protected her on this? I am curious to see if CNN will post this, or are they also protecting her? If so, why?

Clinton is destroying her chances to even be elected Senator again.

Tim from Ohio   March 27th, 2008 11:18 am ET

I have a question for anyone willing to provide an answer:

If Senator Clinton's negative numbers are so high then, why is she still statistically tied with Obama? If she is as bad as what people say, shouldn't Obama be ahead in the polls right now instead of being tied with Senator Clinton?

ben   March 27th, 2008 11:18 am ET

She just needs to drop out. She cannot overcome Obama's total vote count or his pledged delegate count. The superdelegates are not going to commit political suicide and overturn the pledged delegate count, period. The time for Hillary to drop out is long over due. But its better late than never.

dd   March 27th, 2008 11:19 am ET

Hillary will see her approval rating plummet even more once her tax returns and ear-marks are made public.

How much longer can her campaign block their release??

Wake up Clinton supporters, Hillary is not good for America. She is a corporatist who is totally in debted to the special interests that have destroyed our economy.

Obama for a change in America's future.

Ephy   March 27th, 2008 11:20 am ET

It's hard to imagine where Hillary Rodham Clinton is heading to. She lied on her Bosnia trip, she lied she's been involved in solving the Rwandese genocide, she hides her tax returns, she unfairly magnified her foreign experience, OMG…., it's time people decipher that what we are listening to all along her stumps during this Presidential campaign. The core problem is, her campaign was all based on her "experience"…..

I only hope that she does only marginally well in Penn. and faces reality enough to drop out for the sake of the nation and the party rather than drag it out to the bitter end. If she does not then truly she is only self interested. Time will tell the truth. The thing that really blows my mind is the numbers of people that would switch to McCain if she loses….both democratic candidates have the same message and very close to the same plans…the only reasons that I can see that anyone would switch to McCain in the event that Barack won would be race based and that would be a sad reflection on America.
Come on folks use your minds…arent we past that yet? Gee Whiz I am a white guy born in the south in the late 40's and I have raised myself above that…….GET OVER IT!

Christian, Tampa FL   March 27th, 2008 11:21 am ET

Aric   March 27th, 2008 11:21 am ET

I do not understand why people are choosing the candidates like a faction with undenyable leadership that you are willing to die for. The truth is they are not to much different based on their views. Yet we constantly see people saying if he wins or if she wins I will not vote for him/her in the election. It is not the candidates fault for spliting the party it's people being stubborn about them. I understand people want one more then the other but to refuse to vote for someone else in the GE just because your favorite didnt make it is beyond stupidity. I myself am a Obama supporter but if he dosent make it ill vote Hillary because I do not want want another republican same old republican in the White house right now. If we devide Mcbush will win.

Another one of his copy-cat speeches! Being sensationalized by the Obamarama's adoring press. Lopsided bias against her.

The reason why Obama gains momentum is beacuse the people are expecting a change from the old methods of politics…

Gotta love it....   March 27th, 2008 11:27 am ET

Here ya go CNN…..well the Camp Obama people will love this article but……..

The poll was conducted Monday and Tuesday this week by Hart-McInturff and surveyed 700 registered voters, which gives the poll a margin of error of +/- 3.7 percent. In addition, we oversampled African-Americans in order to get a more reliable cross-tab on many of the questions we asked in this poll regarding Sen. Barack Obama's speech on race and overall response to last week's Rev. Jeremiah Wright dustup.

And they oversampled Aftrican-Americans……..are those the same folks who voted 91% for Senator Obama in Mississippi? Not a very well rounded poll I'd say.

Sorta like saying United Church of Christ is 99% white denomination but leaving out the fact that Trinity United Church of Christ is predominantly black. Duh!

There's HOPE after all !!! I was starting to lose faith in America's ability to see Hillary for what she is….a selfish, manipulating, lying,

And with Bill now saying, "I guess its OK to beat up on a GIRL", while at the same time saying candidates need to be able to take hits and be tough, their DOUBLE-SPEAK is catching up with them. Let's hope Pennsylvanian voters see the TRUE Hillary at last.

The media spends each day/night portraying Hillary as a spoiler, she should get out of the race, she is trying to "destroy" Obama, she'll do or say anything to win, etc etc and on and on and on and then acts surprised that her negatives have gone up?

I am not sure what I despise more…..politicians or the "journalists" that cover them.

John, Lubbock, Texas   March 27th, 2008 11:28 am ET

A month ago, I would have been happy with either Hilary Clinton or Barak Obama. Not anymore. Hillary's latest: saying pledged delegates should feel free to vote for whomever they wish, her on-going push to get superdelegates to over-ride the majority of primary voters, and her ridiculous criticism of Obama over something his preacher said years ago, of which he was not even aware and which he condemned. No talk of issues. Attempts to over-ride the will of the voters will spell the doom of the Democratic party if successul; as this would be decidedly undemocratic. This blind ambition has shown no principle; and the fundamental right of "we the people" to decide is being undermined. I don't agree with many of McCain's positions, but at least he is a straight shooter, and has reigned in his supporters when they stepped over the line. Integrity counts for a lot, and is a rare thing in politics. Looking at Hillary's latest antics, it's even rarer than I first imagined!

Kathy   March 27th, 2008 11:28 am ET

this is sad, yes she dersevers some drops, but how can this compare to Obama's lies??? PEOPLE ARE TOO EASY ON OBAMA

Arkie in Little Rock   March 27th, 2008 11:28 am ET

Hillary Clinton has acquired her lower approval rating the old-fashioned way — she's earned it.

Also, what's this crap that Bill Clinton says about a football player should expect to get clipped? Clipping is illegal! It is for a good reason; clipping can cause severe, even permanent, injury. The Clintons are clipping their own party with their dirty tactics. I am sick of them.

bill morrison   March 27th, 2008 11:28 am ET

Hillary,Hillary,Hillary…. remember that old axiom you created sometime ago…. Silence Is Golden!!! (that was you wasn't it?)

Hold that tongue and your approval rating will, once again, rise.

And I'm a Republican.

John   March 27th, 2008 11:28 am ET

With the way she's trying to tear the democratic party apart, this isn't surprising in the least.

Anya   March 27th, 2008 11:28 am ET

This must from those Wall Street elites, who are pumping money into Obama's campaign.

Logically, if you look at other polls and follow events in last two weeks, it is difficult to justify these numbers.
But for Obama supporters, they need something (when you are drowning, then even a piece of wood will give hope for life).

David   March 27th, 2008 11:29 am ET

well the past and present is dooming this lady. not to mention the lies she tells. no more Bush/Clinton rule for this country.

Kevin   March 27th, 2008 11:34 am ET

More evidence that Clinton needs to concede

Cliff   March 27th, 2008 11:34 am ET

What a suprise! I thought Clinton was the nation's favorite one (lol)

No Clinton!

JT   March 27th, 2008 11:35 am ET

You can't choose your family but chose Bill Clinton. Furthermore chose to stay with him after repeated affairs from Arkansas to the White House. Even while you were under the same roof! Now let's talk about judgment.

Mary   March 27th, 2008 11:38 am ET

Maybe it has to do with the fact that everything she says is a lie?

She can't be trusted.

How can she lead a country when you can't tell if she's telling the truth or not?

Venus   March 27th, 2008 11:38 am ET

Yes! Let's hope she continues to be negative - nothing like self-destruction…

jr   March 27th, 2008 11:45 am ET

Go Hillary! The only reason Obama is ahead is because he has a very aggressive ground campaign for the caucus. I had a first hand look at it during a delegate meeting. There we were preparing to have our meeting when in walks a representative of Obama's campaign (flew in from Florida) and the first thing he says is: How many are for Obama,? May I please see you outside for special training? Everyone was looking around saying what is going on????? So, our chairperson says: "The only important thing is…if you're a delegate, be sure to show up Saturday to cast your delegate vote, other than that, there shouldn't be anything else to say". Still, the Obama representative pulls 5 people (for Obama) out for special training. Who's the weasel in this election…….OBAMA

pmet   March 27th, 2008 11:45 am ET

These polls indicate that the american public is sick to death of Clinton and her surrogates bashing Obama in a personal way. "Clipping" him, to use President Clinton's football analogy. Yet, when it is uncovered by the media that Hillary has, in fact, lied and lied repeatedly regarding the Bosnia visit and Obama's camp starts pointing out other lies, they go balistic and say he is being personal. Really? Berating someone who is a christian for the church he goes to — versus — pointing out where your opponent is lying about their foreign policy experience. Can you see the difference? The american people are finally starting to see through Hillary's Clinton's blatant attacks and seeing them for what they are: desperate.

Judd   March 27th, 2008 11:49 am ET

This shouldn't be a surprise. Hillary is cold, two-faced, a Washington insider and a liar. She needs to drop out now and save the party.

Mike from California   March 27th, 2008 11:49 am ET

I used to be a Clinton supporter. Now I have to say with her negative campaign and her flat out lies I'm voting for McCain. Everyone is involved in what Rev Wright said…problem is…Obama didn't say it. Find some footage with Obama speaking bad about America. Clinton needs to run a campaign on the issues and stop ducking sniper fire.

Anson   March 27th, 2008 12:00 pm ET

I've always loved Bill Cinton since he was elected and have always wanted to see him back again, and his wife, was my ticket for a dream to come true. Now I'm saying honestly with all my heart that I would rather vote John McCain than voting for her, and Bill has shown me that he is not what I once believe he was. First female to get a chance to make history; she using that chance to destroy the Democratic Party. I thought I would never stop loving the Clinton. It is ahamed!

Brian   March 27th, 2008 12:01 pm ET

Look, the only one launching negative attacks against his opponent is Barack Obama; and he calls this "new politics"? That seems pretty old to me. Hillary has run such a positive campaign and has only responded to his personal attacks in self defense. Thta's just one reason why Hillary is the far superior candidate, in my opinion.

Justin from West Haven, CT   March 27th, 2008 12:02 pm ET

It'll get higher if she gets the nomination as well, wait until McCain's favorables skyrocket along with Nader's.

AB   March 27th, 2008 12:02 pm ET

is anyone surprised? Obama is the best hope for the democratic party's ambition of regaining the whitehouse. Hillary supporters need to reconsider their stand and let's help strengthen the democratic party by having Obama as our nominee.

Sly Domber   March 27th, 2008 12:03 pm ET

Her negatives are just too high. She's unelectable. She'll be the first nominee going into a general election with almost a majority of the country against her. 52% see her as not sharing their views. I supported Hillary…i think it's time for the DEMs to shut this thing down before we hand a gift to McCain.

H.   March 27th, 2008 12:06 pm ET

Nothing new here, that's why I don't understand why so many dems support her. She wonders why most regular view her as being disengenious when she takes positions on Michigan and Florida counting or the need for recount. Why bother having rules. Then her point on pledged delegates being up for grabs…then why bother going through the primary process. They should just put the 2,000 people in a room, candidates make their speeches and then have the delegates vote with all the back room politics that this would entail.

McCain Clinton 08   March 27th, 2008 12:10 pm ET

How can this be? She's only knee-capping the democratic party on her road to loosing the nomination…

PEGGY   March 27th, 2008 12:10 pm ET

AS FAR AS I AM CONCERNED ANYONE THAT MAKES A COMMENT SUCH AS THIS IS THE FIRST TIME I AM PROUD TO BE AN AMERICAN SUCH AS MRS OBAMA DID I THINK EVERY DEMOCRAT THAT WILL VOTE TAKE THAT COMMENT IN TO ACCOUNT.EVEN THOUGH I AM A CLINTON PERSON AFTER THAT COMMENT AND THAT PASTOR THAT THEY BOTH GLADLY FOLLOWED FOR ALL THESE YEARS AND STILL CONTINUE TO SUPPORT I WILL DO MY BEST TO PERSUADE ANY ONE THAT I CAN TO VOTE FOR MCAIN IF CLINTON DOES NOT GET THE NOMINATION AND IF SHE IS NOT ON THE TICKET

jimmy vekmen   March 27th, 2008 12:12 pm ET

There have been mistakes made by both the Clinton and Obama
camps and by the candidates themselves and yes there may be even more.
And as we all know, our country faces serious problems. the Bush Administration's officials have had more mistakes than any previous
one I know and America is struggling with a very costly war. Our Country however is very resilient and still attracts foreigners from all nations to come and live here. we all need to pray for America and a revival of the spirit . A great revival for Honesty and Integrity in Government for those seeking to serve in all branches of our goevernment. "In GOD WE TRUST" is engraved on our currency.
Yet little is done to indicate that America does indeed trust in GOD.

John L. Voss   March 27th, 2008 12:13 pm ET

The Clintons are the best thing that has happened to and for McCain since this campaign started. The lasting damage will be the tarnish of the Democratic Party. This is from a political Independant.

TEO   March 27th, 2008 12:13 pm ET

The Clinton take no prisoner, say anything, win at all cost attitude doesn't seem to be working to well. Thank God America is finally waking up!!!!!!

txpoodoo   March 27th, 2008 12:13 pm ET

The sad thing is that BOTH Obama and Clinton was leading McCain handily a few months ago. With the negative attacks of Clinton and the non-issue discussions lately. It seems indepedents are now moving toward McCain.

Democrats, if you REALLY want to win this thing in November, urge your favorte nominee to stay on the issues, direct thier attacks at McCain, and get ready to support the other Democrat nominee in case yours doesn't win.

In the end, it should be about putting a Democrat in office.

AER   March 27th, 2008 12:14 pm ET

Should Obama have held oversight meetings as the Chair of the Afghanistan Oversight Committee? He said for the past year he was busy with his election. Is this a good excuse or just irresponsible?

I see he had time for a Caribbean vacation though. What idiots are voting for this man?

Sophie   March 27th, 2008 12:14 pm ET

It's probably because of the Bosnian fib she told about being shot at, when records clearly deny that that ever happend.

Also, how come CNN never reported that, yet the BBC and NPR did?

fred   March 27th, 2008 12:14 pm ET

She is so done, that when Obama finishes with her she may as well retire from politics. Bet you didn't see this coming Hillary!

TD   March 27th, 2008 12:15 pm ET

Hopefully , people are intellegent enought to realize that "Obama did not say the things that he is having to answer to;" it was his pastor - Jeremiah Wright; ask him to explain his own words! Jeeze.!

Some also might ask; "Why did he (Obama) stay at the church for twenty years. Answer: Because Pastor Wright did not preach sermons like that everyweek for twenty years; or Sen Obama was not at church everyweek for twenty years.

Come on folks lets be fair.

ArizonaSon   March 27th, 2008 12:16 pm ET

Hillary Clinton is slowly killing the Democrats. This will effect our party for a LONG TIME.

John Zeger   March 27th, 2008 12:16 pm ET

As a Clinton supporter I must say that I too was disappointed that she recently had to bring up the issue of Obama's relationship to Rev. Wright once again when she said that he would not have been her pastor. However, overall I still think that she is the best qualified person to become president. I think the paramount concern should be that John McCain is defeated in November, and either Clinton or Obama would be an acceptable candidate to me.

Jonathan of Tampa, FL   March 27th, 2008 12:18 pm ET

Americans really would like to see a campaign about the issues. Negativity brings us all down. True, Clinton is a fighter. That's cool and all, but is there any limit to what won't be done to secure a victory?? I think her lower ratings are proof that all of us are sick of the constant jabs and old school tactics she is using to try to catch up. It's ok to catch up and win, but do it with dignity, honor and respect, you know, the way a potential President should conduct themselves.

Eathon McPhail   March 27th, 2008 12:18 pm ET

It seems Like every Day you come out with a new poll that works against Sen. Clinton! i would like to know who are the people that are really getting polled/asked these qestions, because I have never been called..What a country we live in when our media cares more about what a poll says about a candiate than what real the issues is. as a Black Man in this country I love what Obama has done and I am so proud of him, but our country is in a rough time right now and we need someone who can step in and get the job done NOW! when our country is at peace then we should vote for a Motivational Speaker! Hillary Don't stop or get out we need a fighter to beat Bush/McCain 09′

Tim   March 27th, 2008 12:19 pm ET

This election is becoming a joke because of the tactics by the Clintons. Obama keeps having to respond with some dirt just to keep from being steamrolled in the press by constant headlines generated by the Clintons. She cannot win without controversy. The Clintons effort to save there image has actually made it worse. If she is trying to set herself up for 2012, think again Hillary. The funny thing is that when both candidates were running a positive campaign, the voters heavily favored Obama. The Clintons changed the tone, threw some dirt on Obama, hence a closer race. What does that say about the Clintons? Any of you Hillary supporters planning on voting for McCain better search your souls. You are as bad as the republicans voting for Hillary to keep the chaos going.

Joe Black   March 27th, 2008 12:19 pm ET

I think people have a lot of questions about Hillary, and when they try to ask her, she refuses to answer or calls the questioner names.

What is she hiding? 12 million dollars, apparently.

Tyler   March 27th, 2008 12:19 pm ET

How is it possible that this article mentions the "controversy swirled around Obama over past statements by his former pastor, Jeremiah Wright" without mentioning the "controversy" surrounding Clinton's trip to Bosnia?

Dennis   March 27th, 2008 12:19 pm ET

Her selfish thirst for power will be at the expense of Obama and the democrats. She is nasty and does a great disservice to women in politics and women in general.

If the situation were reversed, the press would be calling for Obama to quit, but the press is way too soft on Hillary

Vacman   March 27th, 2008 12:20 pm ET

The American people have been misled and deceived throughout the current Bush administration and can't afford to elect another suspect President! Hillary's campaign has constantly exaggerated the truth on their foreign policy experience so that alone question her ability to lead this country!!

Jon   March 27th, 2008 12:20 pm ET

This poll is inaccurate. They oversampled Black Americans. Rasmussen's daily tracking poll has Hillary at 44% favorable and Obama at 46% favorable.

Charles   March 27th, 2008 12:20 pm ET

Is there anyone that can defend her after this release? Anyone that still claims it is Obama that is tearing the party apart and creating discontent in the voting public? There's a reason so many of the comments on these message boards point towards he being a bit on the heartless side and I think this poll shows why that has become more and more uncommon. Can anyone point to comments Obama himself has made that match the selfish and politically conniving things Hillary has said as the tide has turned farther and farther from her grasp? I don't think I have to run down the things she's said.

Ann   March 27th, 2008 12:21 pm ET

This negativity attitude towards the Clintons is not new. Many people have believed the Clintons are negative for years now. This should not be a surprise.

Peter, Woonsocket RI   March 27th, 2008 12:21 pm ET

No, no, no. This story has it all wrong. OBAMA'S negatives have reached 97.892%. Hillary's approval latest rating is 192%, and she was just elected Queen of the World.

What? That's not true, and you can prove it? Oh.

Well, I mis-spoke. Just a tiny little mistake. I'm only human!

MO   March 27th, 2008 12:22 pm ET

You cannot hold Barack accountable for things his pastor said, neither could you hold Hillary accountable Ferro's comments. Barack wants to move past this "controversy" but the media continues to play it repeatedly. However, when Hillary "misspoke" about Bosnia, it was not as relevant. Democrats need to wrap up this primary very soon.

Obama 08′

John   March 27th, 2008 12:22 pm ET

Wake up Hillary. You need to extend your line instead of trying to shorten Obama's line. People understands your honest lies. Don't try to fool people, else at the end you will find yourself fooled, none by other than your own campaign. By the way, don't allow your ex-layer to appear on CNN, he looks fool.

Jim   March 27th, 2008 12:22 pm ET

Not a reliable poll to say the least! It's not possible that Americans are ignoring what happened with Obama this month.

Another 2 big losses in 2 major states: Ohio and Texas. Then the Wright scandal which has without a doubt greatly reduced his chances of getting the nomination and most certainly ended any hope of winning in November should things come to that, but they surely won't.

He can't win big states. And his past, of which we have only seen the tip of the iceberg, is unacceptable for anyone to become President of the United States.

What more do you need than this to know that Obama is on his way out of this race.

Rhonda - Chicago   March 27th, 2008 12:22 pm ET

Finally - people are seeing Clinton for who she really is…come on Obama, you're almost there!!!

Dave in Atlanta   March 27th, 2008 12:23 pm ET

This is precisely why I can't agree with Bill when he says negativity should be part of politics. The sort of negative Karl Rove type tactics employed by the republicans is precisely why Bush has a low approval rating right now. I don't want a liberal edition of Bush in the white house. I want someone who can run a campaign without resorting to negativity.

Chris from San Antonio   March 27th, 2008 12:23 pm ET

It just goes to show you that you don't need a likable President, just one that is able to lead our nation at 3 a.m. from Day 1.

We need a president that fights for the disenfranchised voters in MI and FL, but is compelled to steal the delegates from all the other states and disenfranchise them.

We need a president that has years foreign policy experience serving tea to world leaders and dodging bullets from 8-year old poets.

We need a president that's willing to do just about anything to win.

Burt   March 27th, 2008 12:23 pm ET

These numbers are trumped up to feed the fire fight between the different campaigns and to present to the voters a negative view of Senator Clinton. When you ask the voter what has Senator Clinton done to you specifically to deserve all that hate, these voters don't have an answer. From their style of reporting, there are media organizations that are trying to influence the voter and keep on peddling stories of the sort. For those pollsters who are suppose to serve the greater good, ASK THE VOTERS WHAT SPECIFICALLY Senator Clinton has done to them to deserve all that hate.

Who cares about the national polls for Clinton or Obama vs. McCain? The popular vote nationally means nothing (so the poll means nothing). Show us state-by-state polls for the purpose of the electoral college or pick 3-5 "swing states" and show us those polls for the head-to-head. It's the electoral college, not the popular vote that matters.

Bill   March 27th, 2008 12:25 pm ET

Carl from Pa   March 27th, 2008 12:25 pm ET

Finally, a poll that reflects my own opinion. I am one of those people that thinks this election can go on, but there is no way Hillary can win. I am also one of those people that will be deeply upset if Hillary somehow does win. The sad part about all this is that I don't deeply dissagree with her policies but rather her politics. She has done nothing on this compaign to make me like her in any way and now that she knows she can't win she wants all her superdelegate friends to bail her out. If that happens, I'm moving to Canada.

pam   March 27th, 2008 12:25 pm ET

I see in the distance someone's boat is sinking I hope the Clinton's Donors that are threatening Pelosi are on that boat too!
Sorry we forgot to put lifejackets on the boat OOPS!

Negativity breeds negativity! All respect I did have for Hillary is totally gone and I would not want her to be president. How low would she go with foreign leaders to get her way. That is scary.

I am Canadian and the World is watching and if she became President, I will not shop or visit the United States if she became President especially if it is done by blackmail by her donors.

The public/people are fed up with negative campaigning and cowards who secretely release altered soundbites. In spite of what the news media states, the people look for the whole story. The people are aware that the only candidate spitting venom is Clinton. The news media has yet to get a rise from Obama. Clinton perpetuates the stereotypes of women. The public see's this. Our focus this election year are the issues. When Hillary Clinton recognizes this, maybe the petty actions will cease.

Damion K. Miles   March 27th, 2008 12:28 pm ET

I think more and more people are realizing that Sen. Clinton will do anything, whether it be good or bad, to get to the White House. It is obvious, it seems, that the only way she can get a victory is not by her doing well but by Sen. Obama doing bad. Can anyone in her camp see that they can only do more than good at this point? I don't have the sharpest political mind in the room but, life experience has made one thing abundantly clear - men lie and women lie, numbers don't lie.

In the end its about whats best for America, not whats best for your ego or family name at all costs. The reason for our joy of 2008 is that we thought we were leaving this kind of "deceptive politics" & "selfish gain" behind with Bush, finally putting America first. Unfortunately being real and honest with the American people and for America is too much to ask of some if the truth hurts.

Jacob S   March 27th, 2008 12:37 pm ET

Who cares about actual data showing that Clinton's electability isn't great, obviously her supporters here and elsewhere who say that she will win handily while he'll be demolished by McCain have it right. Nevermind that virtually all matchups and polls paint a starkly different picture.

Clinton's strategy of winning a general election is quite clear, I think, from her primary strategy - win all of the usual blue states and maybe one or two swing states to get, just barely, a majority of electoral votes, and at best maybe 55% of the popular vote.

Obama, meanwhile, while he may not win big states by as much will still win every blue state while standing a chance in the south and other traditionally red or leaning red state. He'll give up on no state and I think could quite possibly hit 60% of 65% of the popular vote. A president who won with 51% of the vote as Clinton plans is no uniter, they're a repeat of Bush in 2000 and 2004 in that regard. A president who wins with 60-65%+ is a whole different story.

She is just unelectable. She's not likable! I don't disagree with her platform but there is a difference between her and Obama and that is integrity. Whatever happened to that, huh? That difference is my vote!

BK   March 27th, 2008 12:39 pm ET

I would put money on Hillary has Carl Rove on her payroll.
Everything she is doing is right from his playbook.

Brain   March 27th, 2008 12:48 pm ET

OBAMA deserve to be president of United states Of america because we need him so badly.

Raum   March 27th, 2008 12:50 pm ET

Hillary is the most negative politician I have ever seen.

I wish she would just throw in the towel instead of making us wait 3 months with the same outcome

tom   March 27th, 2008 1:00 pm ET

People don't like Hillary. She has no chance to win a general election. Ironically, she will do anything to get into the election. There is nothing she wouldn't do and it is clear that to her, if she doesn't get it, she doesn't care who does. What's not to hate about someone like that.

Go Obama   March 27th, 2008 1:03 pm ET

Obama is the change we need..McCain would be a third Bush term…The war in Iraq will continue forever, the economy will continue to tank (McCain has admitted he knows little about the economy)..Also, & most important, McCain would put far right justices on the Supreme Court, & that scares me too death…

I want the next justice to be moderate like Ginsburg, Stevens, or Breyer, not far right idealogues like Scalia & Thomas…

I do like Hillary Clinton, either Democrat will get my donation & vote….All I care about is beating John McCain, the far right has been in power way too long..

People might like her more is every word out of her mouth wasn't a calculated lie.

simon   March 27th, 2008 1:04 pm ET

Since when we can really trust these polls? They are often conducted unfairly and are manipulated by the media to mislead the public. Remember the polls indicated Hillary was behind in California on Super Tuesday, behind in Texas, and tied in Ohio; however, she came out the big winner in both California and Ohio and also won Texas. People need to get over this Bosnia thing and move on, Hillary already admitted that she has misspoken. Obama misspoke (lied) all the time, but the media always go easy on him. Remember he doesn't know Rezko really well and he said Rezko only donated $150,000. However, he later changed his words and said Rezko is a friend and they know each other very well. Now why wasn't the media attacking Obama on those misspoken words or "lies".

HILLARY ALL THE WAY!!

FNJ in PA   March 27th, 2008 1:04 pm ET

Who didnt know this. This woman is done

OBAMA 08

YOU NEED TO KNOW   March 27th, 2008 1:07 pm ET

ONE SHOULD BE ACCOUNTABLE MORE FOR WHAT THEY SAY AS OPPOSED TO WHAT SOMEONE ELSE SAYS.

CASE IN POINT:

HILLARY SHOULD BE HELD 100% ACCOUNTABLE FOR MIS-SPEAKING (FLAT OUT LYING 3 TIMES IF YOU ASK ME). SHE IS A LIAR, SHE DOES IT NOW AND WILL DO IT IN THE FUTURE.

OBAMA IS BEING HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR WHAT SOMEONE ELSE (WRIGHT) SAID. IT DIDN'T COME OUT OF OBAMA'S MOUTH.

PEOPLE THERE'S A BIG DIFFERENCE IN THOSE TWO CASES, JUST AS THERE IS A BIG DIFFERENCE IN THE TWO CANDIDATES.

HILLARY TOLD A BIG FAT WHOPPER….LET'S HOLD HER ACCOUNTABLE.

OBAMA 08

Anson, I so Agree with everything you said in your post. So as to not repeat it, all I will say in saying that is I would not vote for McCain just because of these thoughts. I would stick with my party and vote for Obama. McCain will only be Bush for 4 more years. The people that jump ship on the democratic party b/c of the things go on would be foolish. McCain is not for you regular people, just as Bush was not. I am open minded enough to see that.

J. Noel   March 27th, 2008 1:09 pm ET

No matter what you guys keep on posting and saying about her, she is still the best candidate for this economically chalenged time and my vote will go to Hillary Clinton or I'll waste on John McCAin.

You have got to be kidding.
Are you all blind about how negative Obama is?
The only thing this guy is good at is giving speeches with no substance.

Robert   March 27th, 2008 1:13 pm ET

People before you talk about the nomination process take some time and read the rules. Bottom line is "you do not have an absolute right to vote for the nominee and the process will end in a draw". Neither will win, so soon the supers will have a chance to break that tie. Hopefully when "you" voted you weren't forced to vote for whomever you did, so why should the supers be forced to vote for whomever they vote for.

Clinton and Obama both have an equal score going into the convention, tied. It doesn' matter that one or the other is ahead when the public voting ends, as neither scored enough points (delegates) to win. So we move on to the tiebreaker, the supers. These people just like you and I had a chance to vote for who we felt was most electable, now have there chance. It's there vote, not yours.

jane L   March 27th, 2008 1:16 pm ET

CNN should congratulate itself. If there are negative polls, they're because of pro-Obama bias and gender bias in your coverage.

Matt Portland, OR   March 27th, 2008 1:28 pm ET

This is a perfect example of the lies the Clintons tell to gain power. THIS was Senator Clinton's "battle-tested" experience??! Looked more like the Macy's Day Parade to me. Who goes into "battle" with her daughter, a comedian, and a singer? Sounds like the beginning of a joke - which is exactly what her "experience" is.

Sallie Mae   March 27th, 2008 1:34 pm ET

I'm sure Hillary isn't surprised. You know.. with being a big LIAR and all!

OBAMA all the way!!!!!

PENNSYLVANIA 4 OBAMA!

Very Concerned American   March 27th, 2008 1:42 pm ET

Saturday Night Live has to do a segment again to show the press that they are doing it again………bashing Hillary.

She should be the Democratic candidate.

That little girl from the red phone ad should go to the Trinity Church and get a real dose of Obama's radical pastor.

Please stop supporting a man we know nothing about.

Everyone keeps attacking Hillary the only person that will give Health Care to all Americans.
Everyone keeps attacking the only person that knows the ropes in Washington.
Not to mention that President Clinton is considered the first "black" president because he loves the African Americans. His office is located in Harlem.

Hillary is the best shot to win the White House.

I want "Universal Health Care"
You go girl!
