 Casey will endorse Obama Friday.
Casey will endorse Obama Friday.

(CNN) — Pennsylvania Sen. Bob Casey will announce his support of Barack Obama's White House bid Friday, an endorsement that could give the Illinois senator a boost in the crucial primary state that votes April 22.

The official endorsement is expected to come later Friday as Obama begins a week-long campaign-swing through the state. Several recent polls suggest Hillary Clinton appears to hold a double-digit lead there.

Casey is a first-term senator and son of a popular former governor of the state, Bob Casey, Sr. A prominent catholic, Casey's support could help Obama make inroads among catholic voters in the state — a voting bloc that has favored Clinton in most other primary contests.

In 2002, Casey lost a hard-fought gubernatorial primary contest against Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell, now an ardent supporter of Hillary Clinton's White House bid.

GO GOVERNOR ED RANDELL! Casey was defeated by Randell big time before so who cares???? He is one of the roster of traitors like Kerry, Kennedy & Richardson! Sore loosers!

PA is already a HILLARY country, Obama, you are just wasting your time & effort! Focus on small Republican states! Never on big blue states!

GO HILLARY, the fighter, winner of big blue states & winner of this election!

No one has mentioned that the reason why Rendell is behind Sen. Clinton is the he owes her big. When he ran for the governor position, he received funding from, “Hsu” under Sen. Clinton’s help. Now he has to pay Clinton back for the hookup. Go check for yourselves.

Hillary has been a good candidate for president. Unfortunately for her, Barack Obama is not only a better one but our chance for a country that is truly by and for the people. It is time, Hillary. Go graciously.

It is time for all Democrats that we get behind our candidate. I say after the North Carolina and Indiana primaries that if Obama has and 100+ lead the Superdelagates should end this.

Excellent decision Senator Casey. May our Merciful Creator continue to bless and help you in your efforts to do good for the people of Pennsylvania and the people of the United States of America.

Hilary wants 800 super delegates a mere 0.0004% of the eligible American voters to chose her as a presidential candidate against the American voters democratic will. How democratic is that?

MT in California   March 28th, 2008 9:56 am ET

Way to go Senator. Thank You!

Craig P   March 28th, 2008 9:56 am ET

Is he a superdelegate?

Eva   March 28th, 2008 9:56 am ET

I am afraid if this goes on much longer that the democratic party is going to be destroyed over the Clinton's being willing to do anything to get into power. When you have millionaire's threatening over the Super delegates this is getting bad.

why does it always sounds like obama is running against ( the clintons ) meaning 2 people. this endorsement is good news, i hope it makes significant inroads in pennsylvania sinces the clinton's feel this is their baby to win

justobserve   March 28th, 2008 9:49 am ET

Finally people realized Hillary has more PA's backings due to her coattailing the name Clinton! I am also very afraid if it is she who should pick up the phone at 3 am sleep-deprived and misspoke.

John, N.H   March 28th, 2008 9:49 am ET

he is probably trying to get at Gov. Rendell. Stupid step if you ask me.

Susan   March 28th, 2008 9:48 am ET

Good for Senator Casey! He is just one more example of a good man coming out and showing support to say to the public that Senator Obama does not share the radical views of his ex pastor and is serious about bringing people of all walks of life, religions, etc into the political process. I'm certain Senator Obama is proud to have his endorsement.

william   March 28th, 2008 9:48 am ET

This contest can be OVER if the PA. voters and more PA. superdelagates will vote and support Obama. PA. voters know that republicans are cross voting and keeping Clinton in the race. Which is keeping her hopes alive.

Dick / NH   March 28th, 2008 9:48 am ET

I too, was made aware of the California lawsuit against Hillary and I'm wondering what effect it will have on her campaign. It's set for trial in April, so we should see a different look on her face once the media gets it's teeth in to it.

Grace   March 28th, 2008 9:43 am ET

Way to go! Obama!

Southerner   March 28th, 2008 9:43 am ET

This endorsement will have no impact on the primary. Obama doesn't appeal to Penn. Democrats. Casey endorsing Obama after losing to Rendell just looks like sour grapes, and one last chance to thumb his nose at Rendell. Nobody is going to take it seriously.

New Yorker   March 28th, 2008 9:43 am ET

Thank you Senator Casey for helping to finalize the nomination. We look forward to the resolution and moving forward to repair American internal and external relations.

Linda   March 28th, 2008 9:42 am ET

… and the gap begins to close. I predict Hillary will win PA by no more than 7 points. In fact, I bet Obama nets more delegate out of NC than Hillary will from PA.

mary   March 28th, 2008 9:42 am ET

To Rick in Florida I agree with you completely…but I think also that the trial schedule for april 25 2008, is getting closer and closer…

Rob   March 28th, 2008 9:39 am ET

And don't tell Bill and Hillary to go home. If Obama can ever become president. Then the U.S will become so crippled and so messed up just like Iraq. If anyone should go home it should be Obama. He should step down so America can be made great again. We don't need him to wreck it further.

Clinton 08

Senator Casey, I hope you had a strong job offer from Obama, because what are your prospects now with the Democratic power-holders in PA?

Tom,des moines   March 28th, 2008 9:38 am ET

Senator Casey, U and Barack Obama will lose very big in PA.

Scott   March 28th, 2008 9:37 am ET

Why does the Democratic party schedule primaries into the Summer if these states are not allowed to have their input into the party nominee decision. Let everyone have their say!

If Barack Obama is the presumptive nominee shouldn't he be clearly winning all states. He just lost two pretty big ones and he's about to lose one more really big one.

Remember when Huckabee (just before dropping out) was still taking 25-30% of the vote in republican primaries from McCain… people questioned McCain. If McCain is the presumptive nominee why is he losing 25-30% of the state to another candidate?

Okay. So why is Obama losing entire states (swing states!) to his opponent? Maybe because the voters are deciding this race – not the media.

If we let the media decide this race as they are trying with their continued Hillary-bashing, then we are not ourselves justice. The media wants Obama in the race because he's different, something new, a good story. But he wouldn't be a good President.

Unfortunately for Dems, he'll never make it that far. He may be leading in the general polls now, but once the GOP gets a hold of him it'll be President McCain. Rezko, Wright, zero experience… Hillary is being nice on these issues! Wait until the real opponent gets a chance to sound off!

Obama would lose Ohio and Florida, which would all but seal the GOP win. He might even lose PA.

The Dem party leaders should recognize Obama's vulnerability with these key character issues versus the GOP. And they should recognize his inability to carry the (big) swing states versus McCain.

John, N.H   March 28th, 2008 9:36 am ET

most of these endorsements are meaningless and worthless. Remember Sens Kerry and Kennedy?

Renee Las Vegas NV   March 28th, 2008 9:36 am ET

Jan   March 28th, 2008 9:35 am ET

I am more of Republican but this guy is impressing more people. With all the stuffs going on around him. He is really doing well … much better than Hillary.

It is a good sign and news for him

Jeff   March 28th, 2008 9:33 am ET

On the topic of the Clinton/Obama race I dont understand the argument with Florida and Michigan. Both states knew going in that the DNC was not going to recognize their votes. Clinton and Obama both signed the agreement. How is there a dispute here. Because Clinton is behind? Thats foolish.
And enough of this talk that "everyone should be heard". The only reason this race is still going is because Clinton wants to go to convention because she is banking on Superdelegates. Primaries have been going for years and the late states never count. I live in Kentucky and use to live in Indiana and we pretty much accepted the fact that the primaries would not get to us. The best way to solve this problem in the future, DNC, is to have primaries on one day. That way there is no single state campaigning where the candidates say how much they care about the state until they lose the state then they say "well, those states dont count".

Ken H   March 28th, 2008 9:33 am ET

Thank you Senator Casey, lets narrow the gap in PA and have a double digit win in NC…that should put this thing away for good. Obama 08

It's funny how supporters of HILLARY CLINTON are claiming that Barack Obama is unelectable. Obama takes California 49-40 in the general.

Bella from Florida   March 28th, 2008 9:27 am ET

He needs his support otherwise Hillary is going to win by a landslide.
It's hard to see someone win when we do not know much about him. Obama is a typical politician like they all are. Some people are just so fooled by his speeches. We need someone who is going to get this economy back on track and restore the reputation of our country around the world . She is a heavyweight champion and she is the type of person that gets things done. Can somebody out there tell me what Obama has accomplished for this country in the short time he's been a senator? Maybe, you can convince me that he is really the one for this job.

Senator Obama has stated today that had his pastor not been retiring this year and had he not been willing to acknowledge his remarks as inappropriate, then certainly he would have left his church. Unbelievable. Whatever your opinion of the Obama-Wright controversy, does any impartial observer imagine for even a moment that Mr. Obama is speaking truthfully? He was a member of the church for twenty years and now he has suddenly had a conversion of conscience!? And this has had nothing to do with the political fallout? Simply unbelievable.

fred   March 28th, 2008 9:26 am ET

CNN, how come you all remove about 75% of all positive comments about Hillary???

Has to be a man with no balls running these comments boards. Typical Obama supporter…can't stand the thought of a woman in the white house.

Obama will win   March 28th, 2008 9:24 am ET

I don't understand why Hillary is being arrogant about losing… if she was a true democrat she would drop out.

Also why are Hillary supporters saying they would vote for John McCain? I mean i am a huge Obama supporter and i don't like how HIllary has attacked him and his supporters, but if she somehow wins, i wouldn't turn my back on the democratic party and my beliefs… i would still vote for her… i just don't understand why Hillary supporters say they would vote for McCain… you are only hurting yourself and being selfish… Obama and Hillary are similar in policies…

If you are going to vote for McCain just becuase your canidate doesn't win the nomination, i think you are really voting for the wrong reasons.

The party built by the Clintons is stronger then this. I think everyone remembers how before the Clintons we didn't have running water and the moon was made of cheese, and the Clintons changed that. See I too can be an excellent supporter of Hillary!!!!!

Rick in Florida   March 28th, 2008 9:22 am ET

No one ever mentions Ed Rendell's role in helping Hillary raise funds for her Senatorial campaign, and particuloarly his involvement in the $2 million given by Peter Paul, who has an active lawsuit against Bill and Hillary claiming fraud, unjust enrichment, campaign finance violations and criminal conspiracy….in California's Federal Court.

With friends like Hillary I'm surprised Rendell is still a political force in Pennsylvania. Maybe this year will be the year PA voters WAKE UP and see Rendell, but more particularly Hillary, for the untrustworthy hacks that they are.
