(CNN) – The University of Chicago said Friday Barack Obama accurately described himself as a onetime law professor at the school, despite the fact his formal title was "Senior Lecturer."
The university's statement comes after the Clinton campaign recently suggested on several occasions that the Illinois senator was embellishing his role at the school by calling himself a professor.
The campaign also sent out a press release quoting a 2004 Chicago Sun-Times column that stated of Obama's professor claim: "Several direct-mail pieces issued for Obama's primary campaign said he was a law professor at the University of Chicago. He is not. He is a senior lecturer (now on leave) at the school. In academia, there is a vast difference between the two titles. Details matter."
But in a statement, the university said its senior lecturers are considered professors.
"From 1992 until his election to the U.S. Senate in 2004, Barack Obama served as a professor in the Law School," the statement said.
"He was a Lecturer from 1992 to 1996. He was a Senior Lecturer from 1996 to 2004, during which time he taught three courses per year. Senior Lecturers are considered to be members of the Law School faculty and are regarded as professors, although not full-time or tenure-track," it also said.

How sad for the country that Hilliary Clinton has nothing positive about herself to run on that she can only try and fail to smear Obama. It really makes one realize what a total lack of substance there is to Hilliary's character and person. I truly don't think Hilliary is fit to hold any office after showing us her true colors. I feel very sad for and hope she will do the right thing now for the country and embrace Obama as the Democratic nominee. She should take some time to reflect on herself and try to find her humanity that she apparently sold away years ago.

The Clinton campaign is something and tries so hard to play dirty politics. It's really great that the University of Chicago stepped up immediately to say what Obama's role/title was at the Law School. The Clinton campaign looks so silly and really doesn't get it yet. The people of this country would like to have Obama as President and not Clinton!

Hillary, we understand that you judge everybody by your measures and as a result, expect everybody to embellish his resume with exaggeration or blunt lies like you do (e.g. sniper fire in bosnia, peace in ireland etc.). But, I would like to remind you that not everybody can ignore his conscience, and ethical and moral values.

Thank you. For the love of God this is getting ridiculous. Anything to distract people from the fact that Hillary is lying though her teeth to try to fill out those "35 years of experience"...all they can do is try to on Obama is twist the semantics of anyone within four degrees of seperation from him and it's not working. Maybe people should just consider that perhaps he really is who he says he is. There has been nothing tangible or credible to suggest otherwise. Hillary needs to drop out, unless she really believes John McCain and a continuation of the Bush doctrine of costly blundered invasions and disasterious fiscal policy would be better for the country than an Obama presidency. In that case she's accomplishing her goal. Still, nothing would kill the Dems chances in November more at this point than having the party elite overturn popularly elected delegates and the popular vote and nominate Hillary Clinton.
