University of Chicago: Obama was a 'professor'

The University of Chicago said Friday Obama was considered a professor at the school.
The University of Chicago said Friday Obama was considered a professor at the school.

(CNN) – The University of Chicago said Friday Barack Obama accurately described himself as a onetime law professor at the school, despite the fact his formal title was "Senior Lecturer."

The university's statement comes after the Clinton campaign recently suggested on several occasions that the Illinois senator was embellishing his role at the school by calling himself a professor.

The campaign also sent out a press release quoting a 2004 Chicago Sun-Times column that stated of Obama's professor claim: "Several direct-mail pieces issued for Obama's primary campaign said he was a law professor at the University of Chicago. He is not. He is a senior lecturer (now on leave) at the school. In academia, there is a vast difference between the two titles. Details matter."

But in a statement, the university said its senior lecturers are considered professors.

"From 1992 until his election to the U.S. Senate in 2004, Barack Obama served as a professor in the Law School," the statement said.

"He was a Lecturer from 1992 to 1996. He was a Senior Lecturer from 1996 to 2004, during which time he taught three courses per year. Senior Lecturers are considered to be members of the Law School faculty and are regarded as professors, although not full-time or tenure-track," it also said.

I am glad to see the university come out and speak about what Senator Barack Obama was at the university. the negative side of this campaign needs to end. As an fellow Democrat we need to come together to win the White House

If 'details matter', as per Hillary Clinton's campaign, then the carpetbagging Arkansan who is using New York as her stepping stone to return to the Whute House, should have known that when she claimed she was under sniper fire in Bosnia when video footage of her Bosnia trip contradicts her claim.

    Details matter!

    Truth matter!

Now what? What else are they going to try and dig up...should have done their research before even putting it out there. I will certainly be glad when this mess is done and over with. It is really taking too much time and attention away from what really matters.

How many straws are left for Clinton to grasp at? Is this really the best she can do? Doesn't she see the futility of her lame arguments and attacks? It's clear she can't make a case for herself as the nominee standing on her own merits without lying, and she can't even shoot down her opponent without lying! I think that should be a signal to her and her campaign.

"In academia, there is a vast difference between the two titles." I like how the campaign is speaking on some kind of imaginary grounds of authority here. Yeah, this is small potatoes compared to what dialogues should really be happening, but an amusing sidenote nonetheless.

If a Sr. Lecturer is a Professor why do you call him a Sr. Lecturer? I'll agree to call him a professor of lecturing – that's all he is.

NOTHING OBAMA SAYS surprises me, after all on the VIEW he says if his Pastor wouldn't have retired he would have quit attending his church. DID'NT he previously say in his speach I couldn't disown my Pastor as he is like a family member! Then previously before that he said he NEVER heard anything negative while he was in the pews, then he changed that in his speach to well yes he had heard this negative talk. AND THE GUY SAYS HILLARY WILL SAY ANYTHING TO GET ELECTED! HE"S SO FULL OF IT HIS EYES ARE BROWN!!!

That is why he is so much more intellgent then the REPUBLICAN IDIOT we call our president and our current REPUBLICAN remedial nominee who can only read off the tele-prompter (and he barely does that right).

and to those who say that if their nominee isn't selected they will vote for McCain, your are just as remedial as McCain and anyone else who votes for him!!!

Team Clinton gets more desperate by the day. Is there no limit to the size of her ego that she would decimate the democratic party?? Though the chances are slim, if she steals the nomination, McCain wins. I, myself, will vote for him rather than her.

I am sick of this trivial and desperate tactics from the arrogant Clinton Campaigners. I thought they were highly educated lawyers to know there is a thin line between a senior lecturer and a professor. And so freaking what if he was one and not the other? Humble yourselves dudes, please humble yourselves. Pride comes before fall.
