A New Clinton ad is similar to “Children,” a spot that aired last month.
A New Clinton ad is similar to “Children,” a spot that aired last month.

Hillary Clinton's campaign has gone live in Pennsylvania with a new ad that features sleeping children, and a 3 a.m. crisis call - but this time, the spot takes aim at John McCain. The 30-second spot - "Ringing" - highlights Clinton's "readiness to be steward of the economy on Day One."

On a conference call with reporters, spokesman Howard Wolfson said that Clinton had not faced any economic crises before, but that she possessed "a rich and deep understanding of complex problems" that gave her the tools to deal with them.

Hillary For President
“Ringing"
TV :30

Announcer: It’s 3 am, and your children are safe and asleep.

But there’s a phone ringing in the White House and this time the crisis is economic.
Home foreclosures mounting, markets teetering.

John McCain just said the government shouldn’t take any real action on the housing crisis, he’d let the phone keep ringing.

Hillary Clinton has a plan to protect our homes, create jobs.

It’s 3 am, time for a president who’s ready.

Hillary Clinton: I’m Hillary Clinton and I approve this message.

Voters of Pennsylvania, don't be fooled by the Clinton's retoric. They are professional liars. It goes all the way back to the Clinton Administration. They will say anything to get elected. One example, when Hillary was running for the New York Senate, she promised to create 300,000 jobs, and in fact since her election, the state has lost over 65,000 jobs.

She is all talk and no action!

To be honest guys, I could care less now. Plus, I had my fun with the Clintons yesterday..... I just don't care whether people are happy or not in this election, they're idiots...........I lost faith and all I know is that I'm happy...

Um, Hillary, that phone has been ringing for awhile and I still don't see you, as one of our leaders in congress, doing a thing about it. Indeed, perhaps if you had picked up the phone some time ago many of the people who already lost their homes would still be living their American dream.

OBAMA FOR SURE WILL WIN PA. 2008   April 2nd, 2008 7:02 pm ET

My Name is Hillary Clinton...and I misspoke when I approved this message

Like others have said - NO BAILOUTS! Congress can't wait to give from the wallets of the responsible. this is not a dem or rep issue, though for once the Rep are finally not planning to waste our money. I hate McCain, but he's right – let the losers who over lent and over barrowed loose – I for one have been waiting four years for the housing bubble to pop.

David   April 2nd, 2008 6:48 pm ET

I come online to read Hillary suppoters make remarks such as:

Hillary will win, you'll see

or

Hillary will win all the rest of the 10 contest and secure the nomination

It makes me laugh when im feeling down

Perjury   April 2nd, 2008 6:47 pm ET

well lets see, 3 AM; I don't think the phone would be available. Testimony said that was when Bill was having phone sex with Monica. Oh, thats right-he NEVER had sex with that woman, just like he still has his law license in Arkansas and Hillary remains alive to haunt us because she could do windsprints so well through a hail of bosnian bullets. anytime of day or night, this is the couple that gives perjury a bad name. sheeeshhh

Mark in KC   April 2nd, 2008 6:46 pm ET

More denial. "Maybe if I target McCain, I can pretend I already have secured the nomination!".

So pathetic. When desperation rears its ugly head.... it really gets ugly.

rck   April 2nd, 2008 6:45 pm ET

Hillary, NAFTA, SNIPERS IN BOSNIA, TAX RETURNS, and SCANDLES, LIES LIES and MORE LIES.

If Hillary answers the phone for the economy then hold on to your wallet because here come the Clinton Taxes

Derrick   April 2nd, 2008 6:45 pm ET

It's 3 a.m. and the Rev. Wright answers the phone preaching biggotry... Call back later!!! We are too busy raising racial tensions in our churches to deal with any situation right now. Please leave a message!

Bottom line is that it is Hillary or McCain! No ONE ELSE.

If Obama gets the nomination, the ENTIRE COUNTRY will see how HUGE of a following the Clinton's have and they will NOT vote for Barack Obama.

Wake up folks! Caucuses are meaningless compared to primaries! Primaries speak volumes, caucuses are mute!

Hillary 08' 12' If not, then McCain!

NEVER OBAMA! NEVER!

You must be kidding if you for one minute think Hiillary is a planner. She
planned her campaign and she has campaign staffed not paid, health
insurance carriers not paid, small businesses in Iowa and Ohio not paid
and only God knows who else she owes. She is not a planner and the 35
years of experience she touts is sorely lacking in being able to make
sound judgment.

Chris in Va.   April 2nd, 2008 6:37 pm ET

A better ad would be "Hi, I'm Hillary Clinton, it's 3 A.M. ,.... has anyone seen my husband?"

Robert IL   April 2nd, 2008 6:37 pm ET

I agree with the several people who have pointed out that if Hillary can't remember "dodging sniper fire" because of sleep deprivation, I certainly don't want her anywhere near the "red phone" at 3AM.

Also, shouldn't the phone in the "red phone" ad be RED? Maybe she was sleep deprived during the filming of the ad and answered the wrong phone.

Don't worry, she'll have plenty of time to sleep soon after Obama gets the nod.

OBAMA 08

Ma Bell   April 2nd, 2008 6:37 pm ET

Hillary needs to stop answering the phone in the middle of the night and get some sleep! The last time she was sleep deprived, she thought there were snipers firing at her!

If she manages the US economy as well as she manages her campaign funds – the 3 a.m. call will be from the bill collectors.

Also, when gets up at 3 a.m. to answer the phone, she'll realize that Bill still hasn't returned from his "quick trip to the store to get twinkies and pork rinds" – and then TMZ will spot him at a club with Paris Hilton.

Dave M. Chicago, IL   April 2nd, 2008 6:35 pm ET

There is just NO FOOL like an OLD FOOL!! Give it up, Hillary!!
Your goose is cooked!! Your 3:00 alarm clock has stopped forever!!
The very best you can do for your country right now is to concede this election to Barack Obama!! You would have a much better political future if you did so!! If you and Bill continue to be STUBBORN and wreck the Democratic party, you will in fact have ruined your respective reputations. How sad that is considering that at one time Bill Clinton, the former President, was admired and revered by millions of people in America and around the world!! And you were elected as a New York senator. Your senate seat is waiting for you!! How thankful you can be!! We taxpayers have paid your salary for more than a year, while you were out hitting the election trail from east to west and north to south here in America!! MANY AMERICANS HAVE LOST THEIR JOBS!! And yet, you have been paid while you were away from your job!! Take a reality check right now Hillary Clinton - Get back to Capital Hill!! Your senate seat chair is calling you!!

Carlos   April 2nd, 2008 6:29 pm ET

How can Hillary's White House experience possibly qualify her to become the next president of the United States? Would Chelsea qualify as well then? Perhaps some of the White House's older staff, who have been there for 10, maybe 20 years?

And why do some women continue to see Hillary's campaign through a sexist pespective? Even if she's deemed admirable or strong by many, wouldn't her political views and credibility have to count somewhat? So by the same criteria should all these same women vote on Condi Rice if she declared to be a candidate herself?

If Hillary were to do a good job on the economy, there wouldn't BE a need for any calls at 3 AM!

The last time I checked "home foreclosures" don't happen overnight - they're a result of FAILED economic policies. Maybe she's giving us a sign of what's to come...

jeffrey   April 2nd, 2008 6:27 pm ET

Ma folks use to tell me that how a person handles little things makes one judge if SHE can handle bigger ones...Hillary Clinton failed totally with handling her campaign...how much more the economy of this great nation...

United We Stand Divided We Fall

OGB, Arizona   April 2nd, 2008 6:24 pm ET

I think Hillary will be too "sleep-deprived" at 3 am that she will definitely "mispeak" on any economic policies. She will be better as the Secretary of Defense since she is skilled at withstanding "Sniper Fire"

Ex-Hillary supporter   April 2nd, 2008 6:20 pm ET

She won't have time to answer phone calls, what with catching up on sleep and preparing her tax returns etc. etc.
Once this contest is over, I reckon Hillary should take a sabbatical in Afghanistan and/or Iraq and experience the reality of war, instead of entertaining the world with her sniper dodging fantasies.

eddie   April 2nd, 2008 6:20 pm ET

It's a great add and it shows how the clintons in the 90's ran 8 years of a great economy. Obama has done nothing in the senate and mccain is with the bush policies.
Vote hillary in for the 90's balanced budget economy!

R   April 2nd, 2008 6:17 pm ET

She does NOT have any understanding of the problems. The very root of the whole problem in our economy is fractional reserve lending and a very loose monetary policy that is helped by the fact that the government props up 3 trillion of our 14 trillion dollar economy. "Providing jobs" can only be done by contracting private firms to do government work, which almost always leads to waste and corruption. Either that or just tell every unemployed person to go join the military.

A recession is like breaking a bone. It hurts at first, but soon the bone becomes stronger once it is healed. The housing thing NEEDS to run its course. Once that happens, credit becomes cheap and people LEARN TO SPEND WITHIN THEIR MEANS.

M. Smith, Harrisburg   April 2nd, 2008 6:16 pm ET

This ad is as ridiculous as her previous ad. Don't fall for it people- she can't even pay her won campaign bills.

PhilT   April 2nd, 2008 6:13 pm ET

People give the "girl" (per Bill Clinton) a break. She's in debt up to her eyebrows, can't pay for her employees medical benefits, and is behind on payments to small businesses (the very people she pledges to help with her economic plan) that provide services to her campaign.

Besides, she is doing the right thing by recycling. This add is probably the best the campaign could do given its limited resources.

PhilT

Former Obama supporter   April 2nd, 2008 6:13 pm ET

I love this ad. It is to the point and true. Unlike Obama's ad which says that he doesn't take money from oil companies but he does. Obama isn't telling the true. Why the media isn't making this a big deal, I don't know. If it was Hillary who said it, then they would tear her apart. I wish there was a poll which asked Americans, "Who do you think the media favors, Hillary or Obama?" The poll would clearly show Obama ahead. The media is always protecting Obama and I'm so sick of it.

Does it matter what Hillary does? Nothing she or McCain can do is as bad as someone who believes in Black Liberation Theology or has spent the past 20 years to become deeply embedded in one race over another. He goes to a church where they all embrace Reverand Wright, this theology, and black supremecy. Is this the kind of change this country wants? Yes, the ad stinks but so does BO! America needs to wake up, and do their homework or we will have our first ever racist president, and if you are anything other than black, you will not be his concern.

President Hillary jumps out of bed wearing a helmet and bullet proof vest.

Secret service agents jump on the 3rd grader and wrestle away the sniper rifle.

Please at least make the ads make sense, the only other person that I can think would be calling would be Bill with a cash crisis because his credit card isnt working

ds   April 2nd, 2008 5:39 pm ET

Neither Clinton, Obama, or McCain will have direct control over the economy. Nor did Bill. The economy works in cycles that aren't tied closely to the president. Bill got lucky and was in when the economy turned around, so he (and, by proxy, Hillary) gets to look like a genius. It's just as undeserved as blaming the president when the economy is bad.

If Hillary is sleep deprived at 3am, we're all in trouble.

Hillary said her Bosnia sniper fire slip ups were because she was "sleep deprived". Hillary told the sniper fire story from December into March. Based on her own "sleep deprived" explanation, she has problems with her memory when she's tired.

Hillary's 4 months of memory issues is enough for me to make an informed decision.

bladedancer   April 2nd, 2008 5:24 pm ET

Money must be tight if she can't afford to drum up a new ad... and this one doesn't make too much sense... 3am phone call about an economic crisis? Lame...

hello   April 2nd, 2008 5:24 pm ET

This all media people became Rich and Republican after they got this big tax break from Bush.
they don’t want democrat to win white house.

Jim   April 2nd, 2008 5:24 pm ET

I don't want a

SLEEP-DEPRIVED

Hillary Clinton answering ANY phone at 3AM.

She will for sure MISSPEAK.

Does she not realize the potential for jokes based on her own ad campaign?

bear   April 2nd, 2008 5:23 pm ET

Looks like billary gets her "new" advertising at the same store that provides her with her "new" politics. Same old same old. At least, she's recycling something.

Now, if she REALLY wanted to hit McClown, she'd say the phone kept ringing because the old codger just slept through it.

NC4Obama   April 2nd, 2008 5:23 pm ET

Hillarious..........at least she's aiming at McCain.....

Hillary don't answer the phone, it's the bill collectors calling....they want their money.....

charles   April 2nd, 2008 5:22 pm ET

3a.m call for an economy crisis. Are you people losing yr mind or what. This is the silliest thing i have ever heard. You deal with the economy during daylight not in the middle of the night. Who will be that stupid person who will call a President in the middle of the night to talk abt the economic crisis. Get a life..

Bob   April 2nd, 2008 5:22 pm ET

Of course, with all unpaid bills from her campaign, Hillary has a lot of experience in dealing with "complex problems". I would imagine how she handles her 3:00 AM calls: "I won't pay, so sue me!".

Nick   April 2nd, 2008 5:22 pm ET

This is great, if she's gonna keep on fighting, she needs to prove she can take on McCain...

Sara from Arizona   April 2nd, 2008 5:22 pm ET

Enough of these Clintons!!! OBAMA 08'

Mk   April 2nd, 2008 5:21 pm ET

It's 2008 do they really think that someone is going to call the white house at 3 am on an old red telephone?????
This ad is old.. Old...OLD

Wise Dem.   April 2nd, 2008 5:21 pm ET

Polls after polls have shown that Mccain will be the best to answer that 3.00am phone call.

Sharon   April 2nd, 2008 5:21 pm ET

Obaaaammmmaa, gettin' angry.......

GO HILLARY!!!! Anyone see the NEW Quinnepiac POLLS.....No story from the media?????
HILLARY BEATS McCAIN NATIONALLY IN FLORIDA, PENNSYLVANIA AND OHIO!!!!!!!!!!!!! By GOOD amounts!!!!! McCAIN BEATS BO IN FL!!!!!!!!!
WHOO HOO!!!

B. Gamble   April 2nd, 2008 5:20 pm ET

. . . .Senator Obama recieved the endorsement of 9 / 11 commissioner
Lee Hamilton. I wonder if Hillary re-made this ad out of spite?

Marc   April 2nd, 2008 5:19 pm ET

The only red phone she should be answering is the one for her to quit.

Obama 08!

HH   April 2nd, 2008 5:18 pm ET

Here we go again, Im glad to see it is focused on John McCain.

Hillary its over. Take your million dollar club AND go back to New York.

ITS OVER if Billary DOES NOT win Pennsylvania by 25 points.

Quote Bill Clinton
"She needs a big big big win in PA"

F. Seville, Maryland   April 2nd, 2008 5:16 pm ET

The 9 / 11 commissioner Lee Hamilton endorsed Senator Obama today.
This obviouly makes him more capable of answering the red phone. (Hillary just got a touch of green envy, and countered with an ad.)

Shane   April 2nd, 2008 5:16 pm ET

I like this Ad. She looks like a leader now. Thanks..Hillary.

wisdom002   April 2nd, 2008 5:16 pm ET

Ah God! give us a break!!! It's just the routine!

Sea_Kenchan   April 2nd, 2008 5:15 pm ET

We all know who is going to be answering the 3 AM phone call. It's Bill Clinton saying, "honey, I"ll get it." She is not a legitimate presidential candidate. She is a vice presidential candidate for Bill's third term. Any vote for Hillary is a vote for Billary. Are we to choose between McCain (W's third term), or Billary's third term?

Gail DiBennardo   April 2nd, 2008 5:14 pm ET

Senator Clinton is the best choice for the party. She's smart, she's experienced, just has more of the political ins and outs that a candidate needs. I would love to see 8 years of Senator Clinton and then 8 more years of Obama. By then he will be ready to take the helm and we can say that for 16 years the government was in good democratic hands. By the way, I like the ad

Carlos   April 2nd, 2008 5:13 pm ET

I wonder what Bill will be doing at 3 a.m., while Hillary is answering phone calls of all sorts...

Joel   April 2nd, 2008 5:13 pm ET

Yes I know it is three am. Maam. But I have come up with another great lie about Obama for you to release just before the PA vote. Yes Maam it is even better than the Nafta lie we used to fool the Ohio voters.

Lisa from GA   April 2nd, 2008 5:12 pm ET

I am Hillary Clinton and I approve this ad....blah blah blah blah.
I am an Obama supporter and I approve this ad SUCKS!!!!!!

Just like you Hillary.. what a joke!

I am tired of the phone ringing method... Slick Hillbilly can't you come up with something different.....

Washington   April 2nd, 2008 5:12 pm ET

3.am Red Phone ad is an insult to the people of Rwanda. Paul Rusesabagina called the White House for several times during the Rwandan Genocide in 1994, but no body did anything. From Kigali the city of Rwanda, Paul Rusesabagina called the White House at 3.am which was 10.am their time. If Hilary Clinton continues with this kind of ad, i think i will backfire across the board. Hilary Clinton failed to act when the phone rang at 3.am in 1994.

Angela D   April 2nd, 2008 5:10 pm ET

Wait...I'm suppose to take someone who can't manage the fiscal responsibilities of their own presidential nominee campaign seriously when it comes to the economy of the entire country? John McCain may not be up on economics as some believe he should be but out of the 3 candidates in this race, Hillary Clinton is by and far the last one to point any fingers at any time of day or night.

4REAL   April 2nd, 2008 5:09 pm ET

Hillary that is the wrong message to send to people. Why would the White House at 3:am be making judgement on something that could wait until 7am. Get real this is studpid. I hope that when people see this ad for home foreclosure and jobs, it will lead them to think you can handle this crisis at 3am. Poor judgement Hillary. This is not a 3am crisis. You can't talk to anybody about foreclosure and jobs at 3am in the morning unless you are trading overseas. Thank you

uchujin   April 2nd, 2008 5:09 pm ET

She thinks she's sleep deprived now???? If she ever was lucky enough to pull off getting elected despite all the lies and deceit, that phone won't just ring at 3:00am, it'll ring all night 'cause she'll have everything so messed up it'll just be one crisis after another. And that won't be the only phone ringing. The non-crisis line won't stop either with everyone trying to get their favors repaid. This country will be in an even bigger mess. I'm sleep deprived too worrying about my construction related business, but it doesn't make want to lie to the whole country.

andrea, Illinois   April 2nd, 2008 5:08 pm ET

Give me a break.....
I really don't like Hillary, but this tops everything. Are they really that stupid????? How about using the money to pay off the bills instead of airing a new, useless ad? She seriously wants to convince me that she has the right ideas for our economy, when her own campaign is an utter mess? Boy, Hillary, you really should go home, before you have nothing left.

Tanya K, White girl from the South   April 2nd, 2008 5:08 pm ET

Fellow Democrats: Obama and Clinton have made me upset with this sguabbling and nonsence, but one cannot win without the other. I am a Hillary supporter, but a shared ticket would do fine for me. Maybe Obama can be a uniter.

Devo-Mar   April 2nd, 2008 5:08 pm ET

gerard morei   April 2nd, 2008 5:07 pm ET

Great Hillary, I;m glad you concentrate now on your next opponent.
Real Americans will vote for Hillary Clinton.
Hillary for President 2008!!!!!

Hillary   April 2nd, 2008 5:06 pm ET

At least she is not still co-signing for the GOP and attacking Barack/ Finally!!!!

Devo-Mar   April 2nd, 2008 5:06 pm ET

The Clintons needs to give up on the psychics. President Clinton will not see a third term in the White House. Senator Clinton should not even be considered as eligible to run under article 22, by her own word she acted as co-President under her husband.
To bad in 1947 nobody believed a souse would run for the office President.

dlr   April 2nd, 2008 5:05 pm ET

Really needs to end her campaign and start working for the Democratic party by supporting Sen. Obama! That's being a true sportman. Remember Apollo? He knew when to hang it up and support Rocky. She is definitely no Rocky. She the leading candidate in Pennsylvania.

Joe   April 2nd, 2008 5:04 pm ET

So Hillary answers the 3 am call herself? What the ad fails to mention is that she answers it at 5 am because it took her 2 hours to put on the pantsuit, the gold jewelry, and do her hair and makeup.

Dinesh   April 2nd, 2008 5:04 pm ET

Nice, now at least your ad's against mccain.

George from Minneapolis   April 2nd, 2008 5:04 pm ET

Obama's campaign has been run much better than Clinton's. She had to loan her campaign money and reorganized her staff during the campaign. While Obama has bettered her in every category.

So, my question is:

If she can't run a campaign better than Obama, how is she going to run the country better than Obama ???

All rational replies welcomed.

Kurt   April 2nd, 2008 5:03 pm ET

Oie Vay!

Ellie   April 2nd, 2008 5:03 pm ET

HA! HA! Your ARE Kidding me!!!

NOT another phone ringing ad.... oh my GOD, say it isn't so.

The first phone AD backfired on HER and YET she still has NOT learned her lesson. If your first attempt did NOT work, do use it again, try something else. Can the Clinton camp come up with something original?

This is really making me sick to my stomach, I can't even listen to anything else Sen. Clinton has to say.

Cindy   April 2nd, 2008 5:02 pm ET

This Ad will help her win in Pennsylvania!!! Nice job!

These things can happen when you are tired and mispeak...

jamie   April 2nd, 2008 4:59 pm ET

My god she is tiring!

Sam Rose   April 2nd, 2008 4:59 pm ET

This has been WAY OVER DONE.......
Couldn't she get creative and find a new ad?

People have been polled and think this 3am stuff is really
dumb-

mp   April 2nd, 2008 4:59 pm ET

I can't imagine why Clinton keeps harping back to this 3am call theme. It's an awful and a ridiculous ad that just makes her look foolish and gives fodder to late night show hosts. I can't believe this is the best they can come up with. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a Clinton supporter but running crap like this doesn't even give her a shot at pulling ahead.

Jeff in WI   April 2nd, 2008 4:59 pm ET

I'm not trusting sleep deprived Hillary with any 3 am phone calls.

James   April 2nd, 2008 4:59 pm ET

Obama knows about as much about crisis intervention on the economy as he knows about bowling. But he certainly looks good in a suit. Of course that's all he's going to need to convince all the world leaders that he is the new messiah. Can he sing? Maybe he should be on American Idol.

Justin   April 2nd, 2008 4:59 pm ET

This premise is so tired and I think everyone is over it.

Not to mention the fact that the red phone would NEVER ring at 3 am. All the markets/businesses are closed at that time. Plus, if you go to sleep as President and need a phone call in the middle of the night to realize how bad the economy is, maybe you're not as prepared and ready as you think. You should have been taking care of this matter during the day.

My hunch is that she does not have enough money to advertise in PA more, so by recycling this 3 am concept she is guaranteed free air time by networks commenting on and replaying this ad.

Real Deal   April 2nd, 2008 4:58 pm ET

It's 3 AM. There is a crisis in the Democratic Party. The problem is John McCain and a possible 3rd term for Bush and company. Democrats UNITE!!! Answer the phone and vote Democratic!!!

Stanley   April 2nd, 2008 4:58 pm ET

yeah, and do you really believe she's gonna pick up that phone?

Whaooooo!

Retired Professional White Woman: I am sure the girl sleeping in the first ad never "dreamed" that she would be in a presidential ad someday. It doesn't matter that she is for Obama now that she is grown. Why would she object or even go on air saying she objects to being in a Clinton ad or that she is an Obama supporter? She made her money and gave the rights to whoever to use it. Exactly what profession were you in not to understand that? What's your point?

pj   April 2nd, 2008 4:57 pm ET

i hope she didn't shoot the ad with more Obama supporters this time. but seriously, stop with the rediculous phone ad.

"Steward of the economy"??????????

The candidate cannot even balance the books for her campaign. Bills are going unpaid, including health insurance for her loyal staff.

And she wants us to believe she will do better with the federal budget??

Joe   April 2nd, 2008 4:56 pm ET

O8ama has a plan for the economy. Hillary has a speech she gave in PA last week. Hillary is (Bush Light). She said she would not pull out of Iraq in her first term. She is supported by the same sleazy Lobby crooks that Bush is. The Clinton/Bush dynasty has sent our jobs to China for the last twenty years! Please, end it now!

3 AM call is a joke now..and she still opted for that???

John Adkisson, Sacramento, California   April 2nd, 2008 4:55 pm ET

This campaign has blown a fuse. Why would she receive the call at 3am? Why would she answer it fully dressed? It made sense for a terror attack, but economic problems are not solved in the middle of the night. Who is running that outfit? Are they so low on cash they can't finance a new ad?

Hillary, like most women, has it in her to take charge of a situation without panic. Women plan ahead, we are take charge type by nature and can easily difuse a situation through careful thought and planning. Most men, depend on that the woman would have had a plan so therefore, go along for the long haul and hope it works. Hillary is an intelligent, organized, strong woman, capable of running this country with her eyes closed because, after 35 years, she has the next four years already planned out. She is about solutions and none of that speech crap.

3 AM   April 2nd, 2008 4:55 pm ET

Exactly what type of "economic crisis" has anyone handled at 3 AM?? The only economic transaction happening at 3AM is the type that got Spitzer kicked out office or former D.C. Mayor Marion Barry scoring some crack. More importantly, where is Bill Clinton at 3 AM?? Most wives are sound asleep with their husbands at that time. Maybe she should try that for a change instead of worry about an "economic crisis"

TC - South Beach   April 2nd, 2008 4:55 pm ET

Just as long as it's not sniper fire!

Whaoooo!

Marie   April 2nd, 2008 4:55 pm ET

What does 3 a.m. have to do with the economy??? Okay, markets are open in other parts of the world, but is this something people worry deeply about happening at 3 o'clock in the morning, when there's nothing we here can really do about it anyway as it pertains to our own financial lives? An economic crisis? Let me know what's going on when I get up at 7:00, thanks.

Uh....what?   April 2nd, 2008 4:55 pm ET

Why is the current economic problem only a crisis at 3 am? Aren't there people losing their homes round the clock?

People, just vote for Obama and let's get this over with.

OBAMA '08.

Lynn D   April 2nd, 2008 4:54 pm ET

Look people. How many of us can remember specific details from 12 years ago? She misspoke. Haven't any of you ever said something that you totally believed was true and then you were proved that it was not how you remembered it? I have. I believe Senator Clinton remembered the Bosnia issue the way that she did because of all of the precautions that she was given at the time of the trip. But no matter what, Senator Clinton does have more experience than Senator Obama. Senator Clinton was not a sit an have tea type of First Lady. She actually participated in some of the day to day goings on in the White House. Just being there is more experience than Senator Obama has. Senator Clinton want to be president to help us. Senator Obama just wants to be the first African American to be president. Senator Obama's lie about Rev. Wrigtht was an outright lie. The more that you guys treat Senator Clinton unfair, the more people will rally behind her. Senator Obama will lose because of his cheap tricks. The issues cannot be discussed because of Senator Obama's crap.

Pam   April 2nd, 2008 4:54 pm ET

Is the girl who is now an Obama supporter still in the ad?

Ronnie   April 2nd, 2008 4:54 pm ET

This ad is absolutely ridiculous and misleading, just like the previous ad on National Security was. I have never heard of any economy being in crisis to the point that any president needs to be up anticipating a 3am phone call. A good president should not let things deteriorate to that point in this first place. Presently, I doubt even Pres. Bush is up all night concerned about the economy.

That's so lame ... to run that thing again after the Bosnia flop.

What's that anyway ? A 3am-call about the economy ? Homes are 'suddenly' in foreclosure in the middle of the night ?

So we dispatch the army, call in the air force ? LAME AND PATHETIC.

And by the way, Hillary, try your 'Commander in Chief Ready-On-Day-One' on McCain. It did not fly with Obama and you think you make that stick on ol' McCain ?

Dream in ... it's 3am.

Southerner For Obama   April 2nd, 2008 4:53 pm ET

I think everybody is forgetting that you don't have to be president to solve this nations problems. All three candidates are spouting off that they have the answers. Last time I checked, most legislation starts in congress and with three senators running for president that have all the answers, it would be nice if they got something done rather than tell us why the other persons plan is all wrong. Lets go senator, you want my vote, get something done now, promises don't feed the kids, heat the house or fuel up the car.

I hope the people of Penn will be smarter than the folks in Ohio regarding these silly telephone ads. It's the idea of spreading fear. A very Republican value. Maybe she learned that tactic while she was a member of the Young Republicans in school. In any case, I don't want to imagine Hillary at 3am. Seriously. Let's choose a leader who has the ability to UNITE, not fight (like "Rocky" Clinton). Come on America, smarten up. Vote Obama. Let's stop wasting our time with Hillary, who is mathematically eliminated from the possibility of catching Obama's lead. Let's move on and get to the battle of November against some ancient 72 year old warlord who wants to wage war until he's 172 years old.

D. Truth   April 2nd, 2008 4:47 pm ET

That red phone is ringing now; and there is an economic crisis within her own campaign. Funny thing is that she hasn't answered that phone yet! Wake up PA!!

Hillary 08   April 2nd, 2008 4:47 pm ET

Works for me ...Hillary 08

HEIDI   April 2nd, 2008 4:47 pm ET

tell me SHE didn't…please somebody wake me up from this nightmare.

bye…bye…hillary and bill and chelsea. please take that $5m and rest in retirement.

The Austrian   April 2nd, 2008 4:47 pm ET

"readiness to be steward of the economy on Day One."

And that is why the economy will deteriorate even further into a nightmare with you at the helm, Senator Clinton. Yes, McCain is somewhat wrong in declaring inaction to be the course to save the economy (the real answer is to take action insofar as it gets the Fed and the government's hands out of the economy).

You will only exacerbate the issue by getting your ill-equipped hands in the middle of this. Shame on you for making voters think that your intervention will actually help them.

Denis, NYC   April 2nd, 2008 4:47 pm ET

Um..why would the phone be ringing at 3am in the morning if it was an economic crisis? Wouldn't they see one coming when the markets closed the day before? Seems like a silly ad.

Anonymous   April 2nd, 2008 4:46 pm ET

I'm Hillary Clinton and I approve fear mongering.

sharrell, dc   April 2nd, 2008 4:46 pm ET

give up the 3 am call Hill, it's over the hill...

Alonzo Demetrius   April 2nd, 2008 4:46 pm ET

Did I understand this correctly? Did Wolfson say that Hillary had heard about problems and that gave her the readiness to deal with them?

It's the Economy Stupid!!   April 2nd, 2008 4:46 pm ET

We do need somebody able to handle the economy, and all you kids voting for Obama better wake up and think about that, it's your future that's at stake.

Lisa Ray   April 2nd, 2008 4:46 pm ET

Shame on Clintons. Lets end the power hungry family run political business and bring some change to America. Vote for Mc Cain or Obama.

HILLARY IS SO WACK!!!!! Who reuses an ad, the exact same ad, and just changes the target of attack? If I were the narrator of this commercial, I'd pause and be like "wait...WHAT? are you SERIOUS!" Hillary, get a life and get a red cell phone for that matter. This way, you can answer the 3 a.m. calls from OUTSIDE the white house where you WON'T be living next year. Most likely, it'll be the police saying "it's 3 a.m. do you know where you husband is?" or perhaps "sorry mrs. clinton, but after a thorough search around the premises, we are convinced there have been no sniper attacks on your home. go to bed, and give us another call if you see anything else."

Alice   April 2nd, 2008 4:45 pm ET

good ad

I hate you HILLARY. YOU ARE VERY WICKED PERSON. YOU ARE VERY HATEFUL

Hoosier Pete   April 2nd, 2008 4:44 pm ET

There isn't a real housing crisis. You have banks loaning money to people who can't afford a house. You have people borrowing money, knowing they can't afford it. So, instead of having the banks and the people to take responsibility for their actions, they're going to steal money from people who had nothing to do with the loans and give that money to the banks and to the people who made the stupid decision to borrow the money to begin with.

Joe Black   April 2nd, 2008 4:44 pm ET

Yea, the last phone call mesage worked so well for Hillary, you might as well do another one!

Are there still people dumb enough to fall for this Reagan-era type of campaigning?

How does being treated like an idiot by the candidate make you feel?

Because Hillary is telling you that you are dumb enough to fall for this nonsense.

Sheesh.

Carol   April 2nd, 2008 4:44 pm ET

When is Hillary's staff going to realize that she has become a joke?

They just keep making it worse.

Towhappy   April 2nd, 2008 4:43 pm ET

How truly desperate.

Everyone knows McCain will steamroll this woman with this 3am ad crap! Thats better suited for his campaign as all dems and republicans agree. Nice ploy to try to remind voters of the old ad with only the narrative changed, to bad the whole world already knows this ad.

My message to OBAMA, ......END THE CLINTONS!

matt   April 2nd, 2008 4:43 pm ET

When does this end, when will the Clintons just go away.

For the 25% that will vote for McCain over Obama, GO AHEAD, WE DONT NEED YOU OR WANT YOU. Bunch of loser cry babies. You all wanted a female president, well find a better candidate. Just wait eight years and have Michelle Obama run, I would vote for her.

Hillary supporters live in fantasy land!

Obama/Napolitano 08

Hillary you need to Release your tax Return before you said any thing.
Obama should be the one ready to answer that 3.am phone ringing.
Obama should be the one that will creates all the jobs.
You are a big liar. you have lied many times that you did decived the OH and TX people.
How Can I trust you that you will create a job when you lies a lot!!!!
Shame on you Hillary !!!!!!!
Repect yourself .

Nick, Austin, TX   April 2nd, 2008 4:42 pm ET

Good for her going after McCain. I'm not a big Hillary Clinton fan (I much prefer Obama) but I would like it if both the Democrats spent some time and money running adds against McCain instead of each other.

I do think it is funny though that everything seems to happen at 3 a.m.

I just get this funny image of the whole day with the White House staff and congress throwing cards into a hat and then 3 a.m. rolls along and everything gets chaotic.

Personally 4 a.m. is the time of day that always scared me but, you know, to each his own.

use2luvher   April 2nd, 2008 4:42 pm ET

And Why Not Hillary?

After all... it 'almost' worked in Texas.

Seriously folks This 3 am thing is getting (McCain) old.

And why is she fully dressed at 3 am anyway?

a) Was the movie toooo long?
or
b) Was she waiting up for Bill?

Jeff M.   April 2nd, 2008 4:42 pm ET

What kind of economic crisis would suddenly need the president's attention at such an ungodly hour that didn't need any attention before?

Chris from San Antonio   April 2nd, 2008 4:42 pm ET

Recycling ineffective ads. Must be tough campaigning with bankrupt coffers.

RPV   April 2nd, 2008 4:42 pm ET

Liz, Pittsburgh PA   April 2nd, 2008 4:40 pm ET

Yes, we need Hillary to go after McCain !!!

Anytime Obama hits McCain it backfires bc it goes against his claim of politics of the future but people are use to Clinton swinging. She needs to continue to go after McCain and Bush, and that will be extremely helpful for the party.

Arin   April 2nd, 2008 4:40 pm ET

Ring Ring " I'm Rambo, dodging sniper fire, fighting the Vietcong! Whoo-hoo!! Huh?! Oh, I'm sorry, did I misspeak? I'm a little sleep deprived. Why are you calling me at 3 am? The markets close at 5 pm? Call me tomorrow at 9, when the markets reopen. Goodnight" I'm Hillary Clinton and I approve this ad.

Hoosier Pete   April 2nd, 2008 4:40 pm ET

There isn't a real housing crisis. You have banks loaning money to people who can't afford a house. You have people borrowing money, knowing they can't afford it. Hillary can fix our economy if anyone can.

Perhaps Obama needs another 20 years experience in all things presidential and then he'll be ready to run for President and Rev. Jeremiah Wright will be a distant memory.

Hillary is ready on day one and will be a great president.!!!!!!!!!!

Anonymous   April 2nd, 2008 4:39 pm ET

What is this? She's already won the nomination...?

Celia Ann   April 2nd, 2008 4:39 pm ET

Maybe its one of her cabinet staff asking why thier insurance card isn't working at the Emergency Room calling.

There was a Doctor who said they rented an buiding for thier campaign and it took so long for them to pay him, that he decided to mail his $500 donation to Barack Obama.

Steve_Mu   April 2nd, 2008 4:38 pm ET

What happened to the jobs out in Buffalo, Senator?

Mark Anthony   April 2nd, 2008 4:38 pm ET

LOL, Whatever!!!! STUPID!!!!

RFP   April 2nd, 2008 4:38 pm ET

The government should stay out of the housing crisis and let the market regulate itself. Not that Senator McCain is any kind of economic expert.

Wayne   April 2nd, 2008 4:38 pm ET

She is supposed to be a good steward of the economy but she doesnt pay her vendors who support her campaign, she owes 300k in health care premiums for her staff and her campaign was so broke she had to use 5 million of Bills money to keep it afloat.

If she cant manage money in her campaign how can we expect her to manage the federal budget and spending????

Mark   April 2nd, 2008 4:37 pm ET

It also shows a sleep-deprived Clinton, forced to wake up at such an early time, dodging the deadly sniper fire on the way to the phone. When she finally reaches it, she answers and gives the order to launch the missiles at these dangerous foes she "sees". It takes the person on the other end of the line quite a while before he can convince her that he is, in fact, just an insurance salesman.

Then comes the message:

Hillary Clinton: Sleep in. Please.

While I understand the basic point of the ad... would I really want some idiot attempting to come up with an economic counter-plan off the top of their head at 3 in the morning by themselves? What exactly would she plan on doing? Drafting a bill to help the economy in a matter of seconds, running over to the House of Representatives, and waiting 6 hours for them to arrive so they could start debating it?

Austin   April 2nd, 2008 4:37 pm ET

Wow,

That was really "original". Is this the best Hillary Clinton's marketing team can come up with? Maybe they are doing this to spite her for not paying their health insurance coverage last month and for her disappearing tax returns.

oswanegan   April 2nd, 2008 4:37 pm ET

WEAK... and to much of the same. Can you say cash-strapped!

Dan (TX)   April 2nd, 2008 4:36 pm ET

Start paying your campaign debts Hillary!

Doug, Florida   April 2nd, 2008 4:35 pm ET

It's time to purge the democratic party of the racists. Let's them run to the Repubican Party when Obama wins

Obama 08

Allan   April 2nd, 2008 4:35 pm ET

With her limited funds, this is the best her campaign can come up with?

Knowing how badly she "mis-speaks" when "sleep-deprived," I would suggest HiLIARy try Ambien when she finds herself awake at 3 a.m. wondering whatever happened to her inevitability.

Farrell, Houston, Tx   April 2nd, 2008 4:34 pm ET

The "red" phone has been ringing in John McCain's ears for the past seven years and it might as well be George Bush answering it. I agree with you on this one Hill.

Jim   April 2nd, 2008 4:33 pm ET

She is just so silly.

sophia nyc   April 2nd, 2008 4:29 pm ET

Senator Clinton: release your tax returns.

Jean   April 2nd, 2008 4:27 pm ET

It seems the Cliton campagn has a real lack of imagination .Maybe, there are tired . This add is non sense because an economy crise don't came out just at one specifict hour in the day is a process,it's different form an national security crisis. There are tired.

Matthew   April 2nd, 2008 4:26 pm ET

Awesome! Even better than the Texas one!

Rena   April 2nd, 2008 4:24 pm ET

Everyone is so tired of that strategy now. She needs to concentrate on issues and stop proving what has been said all along about a woman president–too emotional. She is showing that side instead of her intelligent side. Can you imagine her as president when someone says or does something which may bring about a disagreement on her part? "Shame on you." We do not need silliness as an adjective to describe our president.

One of your campaign workers needs their paycheck.

Mike   April 2nd, 2008 4:23 pm ET

Obama told his pastor before his presidential run that he is going to keep him out of the public's eye because his sermons are too controversial. A reporter stated he was with Obama during some of the sermons Wright was blasting America on.

Is this the person we want as president?

Hillary honors and represents those lost in 9/11 and America. Obama is a slap in the face to those who lost their lives in 9/11.

jyh1920   April 2nd, 2008 4:21 pm ET

That is so lame.
She is like those people who keep wearing something because somebody told them it was cute and it worked for their body type.
But then it's worn out, tattered, discolored, faded, out of style and no longer cute, but they still keep wearing it. And they look stupid.

Hillary let it go already. I know it worked for you before. But everyone's heard it. The novelty has worn off. You have talented people working for you. THINK OF SOMETHING NEW!

Daniel from Philadelphia   April 2nd, 2008 4:21 pm ET

Very interesting – looks like she's finally coming around...a real team player. Maybe she wasn't so selfish as to put herself in front of the party and ultimately, the greater good of the country?

I guess we'll see over the next few weeks. Still can't believe McCain actually said that, this guy needs to retire already...

You've Got To Be Kidding, DC   April 2nd, 2008 4:21 pm ET

Good Night and Good Luck!

It about time she goes after the other party.. To think it only took her most of the campaign to get rid of that crush she had on McCain.

Obama 08

Hillary and Obama Agree!   April 2nd, 2008 4:20 pm ET

In my opinion, the media has it so wrong; it's not that Hillary and Obama tend to agree on most issues, Obama agrees with Hillary because he has no plan or clue.

Replay the debates! "The proof is in the pudding." If he becomes the Democrat nominee, he will have to stand on his own to feet when debating against McCain.

Cindy   April 2nd, 2008 4:20 pm ET

At least she's aiming at the right guy this time.

Lancaster John   April 2nd, 2008 4:20 pm ET

The phone doesn't look red to me! Maybe I'm colorblind. In any case the target is correct this time. Clinton is the only one who can give McCain a run for the money. But I think many people have been strongly turned off by the fighting between Clinton and Obama. If Obama gets the nomination the Democrats can kiss the general election goodbye because they will lose a large number of voters to the Republicans.

Public eye   April 2nd, 2008 4:20 pm ET

It's 3 A.M. Hillary, and one of the children in your ad is an Obama supporter. Maybe next-time you won't use stock footage in your ads.

Change 4 America LA, CA   April 2nd, 2008 4:20 pm ET

Oh no, not the 3 am add again, what a poor choice especially after she chose to duck sniper fire. Hillary is totally being lead down the path of destruction with her campaign which is good.

Obama 08!!!

Hillary put the phone ads to rest it is old!!!!!

Obama 08

Barack the Vote in RI   April 2nd, 2008 4:18 pm ET

Hillary's recent comment about being "sleep deprived" as the reason she blatantly LIED about getting caught in "sniper fire" – on more than one occasion, i should add, should really make you wonder what would happen if that 3am call really happened. Scary isn't it?

OBAMA '08
