Spot on Andrew! Pretty much what I said that didn't get posted. I'd wager my patriotism (or that of Reverend Wright or Barack Obama) against Carl Rove's any day. I resent being made to feel like less of an American because I choose to criticize my government when its wrong, choose not to wear a lapel pin, recite the pledge of allegiance as an adult, sing the national anthem or put my hand over my heart when it plays, or fly the flag on every national holiday. This kind of BS jingoistic rhetoric leads to Fascism not freedom.

Ahh the bias of CNN people. Amazing. Take the issue for what it is, not for who is saying it. Put your juvenile demo/cons politics aside and realize that this isn't either. This is either an issue or not an issue, the fact of the matter is this: He think because OTHER people wear the pin and are 'hypocritical' that HE can't wear the pin. Set an example Obama. I don't wear a flag pin either. Does that make me unpatriotic? I spent a year in Vietnam, and retired from the Marine Corps as a Lt. Colonel, so I would like to have some neocon tell me that I was not patriotic. Patriotism, as Barack says, is by doing not by simply wearing a lapel pin. Bush wears a flag pin, and he is not patriotic as far as I am concerned, as he lied in getting us into war, and he has failed to take care of our wounded troops coming home. Rove and Bush should be ashamed and I would have no problem standing face to face and telling them that they are not patriots, especially Bush who joined the National Guard during Nam, which was one way, besides going to Canada, for getting out of going over there. Give me a break....

One of the great things about Obama is that he refuses to pay any attention to the non-issues.

Karl Rove's legacy is diversion. He diverts people from looking at the real issues at hand. Are you servious? Over 4000 dead in Iraq, a recession, torture and he's interested in questioning someone's patriotism over a pin?

I'd like to see a Republican talk about real issues for once. Issues that don't pander to fear and hatred. Karl Rove is one of the most significant players in turning the Congress and the Senate Democrat. Thank you Karl. Keep spewing hate and fear. The Democrats only win more.

Karl Rove wears a flag pin and look at the stuff he has done. He should be in prison right now but instead he is on the lecture circuit. George W. Bush wears a flag pin and sends thousands of our young men to Iraq to be killed and maimed in a war that he started for purely personal reasons. Patriotism is fighting to make that nation true to its ideals, not blind worship of its symbols. People who don't understand that wearing a flag pin is not as important as voicing your dissent when your country is drifting from it's core values of liberty and equality, are not true patriots. I am a Vietnam veteran and retired career Army officer. I no longer wear the flag pin.
For a time after 9/11 I did wear it, but no more. IMHO it's been co-opted by war wimps, and, disgracefully, has come to symbolize the "love of country" of summer soldiers and sunshine patriots. I prefer to wear the lapel pin of my senior Army decoration, or the Army Star.
I am with Sen. Obama. Mr. Rove, who never served America in the military, can wear the flag pin all he wants. It's a free country.
