Clinton said Thursday she never said Obama can't win.
Clinton said Thursday she never said Obama can't win.

(CNN) – Hillary Clinton on Thursday disputed a report that she once told Bill Richardson she didn't think Barack Obama could win in a general election.

"I have consistently made the case that I can win because I believe I can win, and you know sometimes people draw the conclusion I'm saying somebody else can't win," she said at a Burbank, California press conference.

Pressed further if she had said Obama can't win, Clinton said, "That's a no."

Earlier Thursday, citing sources with “direct knowledge of the conversation,” ABC News reported Clinton once told Richardson, "He [Obama] cannot win, Bill. He cannot win."

UPDATE: A Hillary Clinton staffer tells reporters covering her campaign that the New York senator did not correctly hear the follow up question about whether or not she once told Bill Richardson she didn't think Barack Obama could win in a general election. The aide said Clinton thought she was being asked if she would divulge the private conversation that she had with Richardson and answered no.

Misspeaking again.....You know either she's a "great" liar..or she has memory problems.....either way she's unfit for a third term for Bill/Billary...
remember the movie...Face Off/Face Off...I wonder if she and Bill may be switching faces in mornings before they go out to continue this charade.oops!.... this campaign.

Well then doesn't that completely shoot down her whole argument that she should get the nomination because she's the only candidate that can win the general election against McCain???

Maybe she's spinning it so that she's techniquely not lying.

"I never told Bill that Obama can't win"

Bill who?? Hillary, which Bill are you talking about??? Maybe she never did say that to Bill... you know, that Bill . . . Bill uh Thomas . . you know...of I don't know, he's the blue collar worker that she met in (fill the city she's campaigning at), who lost his job, blah blah blah, and I'm here to help those people.

Enough with the "personal" stories that you make up. Enough of the lies. Hillary, you actually lost in Texas, your lead has shrunk in Penn., you are losing in NC, give it up. It's over.

Scott C   April 3rd, 2008 5:46 pm ET

HOW CAN YOU SAY HE IS STEALING THE NOMINATION IF HE WINS???

HE HAS FAR MORE DELEGATE AND FAR MORE POPULAR VOTE...

EVEN IF THEY COUNTED THE UNFAIR MICHIGAN AND FLORIDA VOTES OBAMA IS STILL WINNING!

IF CLINTON GETS THE NOD SHE WILL DO IT BY STEALING THE NOMINATION.

IT IS TYPICAL FOR CLINTON SUPPORTERS TO THINK THAT ANYONE WHO BEATS CLINTON IS STEALING IT... LIKE IT BELONGED TO HER TO BEGIN WITH.

SAD SAD SAD

IF CLINTON WAS MORE ELECTABLE THEN SHE WOULDN'T BE LOSING EVERY CHARACTER POLL TO OBAMA BY MORE AND MORE EVERY SINGLE DAY.

THE JURY HAS SPOKEN.

THEY DON'T WANT CLINTON.

SMART PEOPLE REALIZE THIS!!!!!

Smart people don't have to use caps lock. Who are "they" anyway? I'm waiting, just waiting to hear "right wing conspiracy...."
Last I heard, Obama was spending millions to get his message out to people in Penn., and Hillary is doing a beautiful job of ruining her credibility all by herself.

Until the issue of Michigan and Florida is resolved, this campaign is alive and well, regardless of outcome. The gaul of Dean and the DNC to disenfranchise millions in these 2 States! A slap on the wrists over a primary calendar debate, and two of the most influencial States in the Union are effectively taken out of the equation? This should be deemed not only illegal and unconstitutional, but grounds for Dean's immediate dismissal. The argument that candidates knew the situation going into primary season is irrelevant – THIS IS NOT ABOUT THE CANDIDATES. IT IS ABOUT MUTING THE VOICES AND RIGHTS OF AMERICAN VOTERS IN THESE TWO STATES! Until their voices are counted, the democratic candidate race is effectively null and void. I am independent, but Hillary Clinton is spot-on with the her intention to pursue this to Colorado if necessary until the issue of Michigan and Florida is resolved. Apparently the only candidate willing to support the idea.

Phyllis, Dallas TX   April 3rd, 2008 5:43 pm ET

I would believe Gov. Richardson over Hill any day.

Of course they told him that. Why would Richardson tell her that and turn around and endorse him. Doesn't make sense to me.

Somebody's drinking the cool-aid.

Scott C   April 3rd, 2008 5:42 pm ET

Are you Hillary supporters out of your minds, or do you willingly ignore the facts.

Polling shows Clinton's ratings are going down EVERY day.

36% of people say they DON'T want Clinton to be President, 20% say the same thing about Obama. 40% don't want McCain.

Obama has the clear advantage in EVERY rating poll. They don't trust her, they think she is divisive, they think she is too negative.

Obama's numbers keep going up by the day.

If Clinton was more electable then she would be winning the primaries instead of being in a distant second place.

It is even looking like she may lose Pennsylvania.

NO argument can be made that Clinton is more electable.

Why are we talking about yet another "gotcha" moment instead or something that has a real impact on real Americans? All you've been giving us is flipflops, flaps, and fluff.

I don't think you should choose Obama over Clinton because she got caught in a lie, or because her husband cheated on her; I think you should choose Obama over Clinton because she helped to push NAFTA through, or because she didn't read the National Intelligence Estimate.

Carol in Roseville   April 3rd, 2008 5:41 pm ET

It is really hard to believe a person who would crash and burn the democratic party. It's sad - she certainly will say and do anything to win.

Rebecca   April 3rd, 2008 5:41 pm ET

It's quite believeable that she did in fact , speak these words. She might not have spoken THOSE specific words to the media and/or public, but come on.....she's been making the claim that she is the only one that can win for some time now.

She should have learned by now that Obama is more than capable of overcoming incredible obstacles.

YES, WE CAN HILLARY!!!

Meg Mackay   April 3rd, 2008 5:40 pm ET

Yesterday, I heard the audio of Senator Clinton saying "He cannot win" to Richardson. I heard this on a rival network (I believe it was on Dan Abrams' "Verdict" MSNBC). If you guys dig into this at all you will find this to be yet another verifiable example that she's telling untruths right and left. Please call her on it.

P.S. Until recently I was in Hillary's camp, but both her comments praising McCain over Obama and Bill Clinton's smarmy racial-bating and raving at superdelegates in SF this week – I am OVER their politics!

HP Boston   April 3rd, 2008 5:38 pm ET

We CANNOT win the GE with only half or even 2/3 of our number voting for our candidate.

Therefore, we must wait until the process is completed and every state is allowed to participate in order to make sure they don't feel alienated, and of course, because we are a DEMOCRACY, people. EVERYONE's vote must be counted!!!

With such a close race, the Clinton camp could just as easily call on Obama to step down "for the good of the party."

Letha, Sioux Falls, SD   April 3rd, 2008 5:37 pm ET

I wish some of you Obama people would actually read the story before you comment and long before you post your opinions. You sound as stupid as Obama sitting in church for 20 years and not hearing the racist, anti American rhetoric spewed by a minister. This information has been posted all over the web for a few months now.

First...whoever said it is right. Obama can't win the general election.

Even if she had said it to Richardson, she would have never meant it to be in the media. What has Obama said to his people, that is not in the media ?

Richardson is not a man of integrity. He needs to get out of the press as he has done damage to the Dems, not Hillary or Barack.

Why is it when Hillary has a different version of events she is automatically a liar, but when someone who supports Obama like Bill Richardson has a different version, they're always telling the truth? I'm noticing this in the comments, anyway.

Obama supporters: he's not the straight arrow you think. Stop being so closed-minded and blinded by prospects of "change."

Hillary has stuck her foot in her mouth again. Why does she even lie at this point? You know its what she thinks. On CNN last night they were talking about Hillary is not directly speaking out against Obama 's pastor, that she was letting her camp do it. Thats not true, she said for 3 days in a row you can chose a family member but you can chose your pastor. If she was "just" answering a question from a reporter about leaving the church, she could have gave a yes or no answer. She totally wants to cut Obama down. If the democratic party would let het she would talk about Wright all day long. Whatever it takes to get elected. She lies so much she does not even realize where the lies stop and the truth begins. Busted again. She is her own worst enemy. And Clinton supporters wonder why she is treated bad?...this is why.

Dave   April 3rd, 2008 5:35 pm ET

The longer she stays on the campaign, the more the lies uncovered from Hillary.

Maybe it's a good idea for her to stay, her self destruction will send her out of the campaign !!!

Kathy Jourgeson   April 3rd, 2008 5:35 pm ET

Has anyone thought to ask John McCain about his plans for handling domestic issues such as school lunch programs, the homeless, healthcare and education. He has not made one mention about issues that REAL americans care about. Also, he has not reached out to the African American population. He has not invited any prominent minorities to the table to discuss issues important to them. I am white but have many African American friends. Wake up people, especially people of color if you are even considering him. This man is only concerned about the rich and the war. If you are a democrat and not happy with either Clinton or Obama, PLEASE don't vote for him. Are children are dying daily. Take a walk through any Military hospital and see the young men and woman whoose lives are forever changed. Then make a decision if we should stay in Iraq. What about people in our neighborhoods. This is a disgrace. People in this country are hungry, homeless and hurting. Let the Iraqi's take care of themselves. They are not our problem.

"As far as I know" I didn't say he couldn't win.

Chris Crew, WA   April 3rd, 2008 5:34 pm ET

Before this campaign, I thought Hillary would make a good president.

Now, i have come to see that she is willing to tell one lie after another to get what she wants. Whether it be the specific details of Bosnian sniper fire or simply denying her past comments, it boils down to the same thing: She is not Trustworthy!

She also seems to be comfortable using FEAR tactics with her Ads containing 3am red phone moments mixed with sleeping children! lol That is just crazy and once again supports her not being trustworthy!

The saddest part is that she probably could have won if she would have been more honest with the public. Rather than calculate every word, Hillary should have given the public the honesty that we are so desperately looking for.

Every time Hillary is caught being dishonest, Obama wins over a few more past Hillary supporters like me. Its quickly becoming an Obama Naiton!

Tay   April 3rd, 2008 5:32 pm ET

In 2 days she'll release a statement saying that she "misspoke".

I am not in the habit of publicly bashing Senator Clinton, but this whole business is verging on ridiculous at this point. While no one is willing to called her a bold faced liar, even her supporters should admit that she "miss-speaks" with alarming frequency.

These latest incidents are small things, but are symptomatic of a larger issue, I think. Questionable dealings and judgments have long been an earmark of the Clinton administrations (Flowers, Whitewater, Lewinsky, China...the list goes on).

Support Senator Clinton if that is your choice, but do it without the blinders on, if you please.

This just goes to show the sense of entitlement that Hillary has to the Presidency. As polarizing a figure that she is, to suggest that she has a better chance of electability over Obama is laughable. I wonder what planet she is living on and how delusional she must be. After the last election though I guess when dealing with the general public anything is possible.

Kim Foster   April 3rd, 2008 5:27 pm ET

Hillary Clinton has run the more honest campaign. With her, what you HAVE SEEN over these many strenuous, dedicated, and always "Democratic" with a big D, years is what you will get. The popularity contest OBama has run is discouraging and disheartening. The group think, including major media of all forms, surrounding Obama's rise to his current position has been a scary thing to watch. Oh fellow Democrats, do not think that blind faith and blind following is limited to only the Conservative Right Wing in our country.

Alex   April 3rd, 2008 5:27 pm ET

I suppose she just "mispoke" again.

Lorrie   April 3rd, 2008 5:27 pm ET

Seems that desperate times bring on desperate actions and behavior. If Hillary loves America like she says she does, back away, so we can start a new America. If this goes on we will have 4 more Bush years, and America would truly be in a state of beyond repair. We should just come together and beat John McCain, and maybe we can all breathe again.

Jeff   April 3rd, 2008 5:27 pm ET

Why even ask this woman something like that? NOTHING she says anymore has ANY credibility, so why bother to ask? Its like confronting a child known to lie, with chocolate all over her face, asking, "did you get into the candy?" "No" will be the reply. Why bother to ask? Do so just creates another oppotunity for the liar to reinforce their self-destrucitve behavior.

Jeremy   April 3rd, 2008 5:26 pm ET

Guillermo   April 3rd, 2008 5:26 pm ET

Richardson do not represent the Latins because in New Mexico the

population. His recent attitude against the Clintons reveal him as a
not reliable person.

jyh1920   April 3rd, 2008 5:26 pm ET

She said it. She gave too much of an explanation. Usually when people lie, they say too much.

She should have flat out said "NO! I never said such nonesense"

Instead she said,
"I have consistently made the case that I can win because I believe I can win, and you know sometimes people draw the conclusion I'm saying somebody else can't win,"

C'mon, He isn't stupid.
She said it...Now she's lying AGAIN...

Susan   April 3rd, 2008 5:25 pm ET

The bottom line is that only ardent supporters care. Most people don't even care if she lies. We don't seem to care about that with politicians anymore. Sad.

But I'm old fashioned. I doubted her honesty but voted for her in the past in the primary and for senator. I can no longer vote for her, not for president, not for senator from my state of NY, not for governor.

I really don't know if she is lying now. Granted! But I'm inclined, since Bosnia, to think she is.

Ruben   April 3rd, 2008 5:25 pm ET

No no no she IS NOT LYING... remember she is just "misspeaking"...

America, let´s not vote for the biggest, unashamed liar in politics today.

Phil Thompson   April 3rd, 2008 5:25 pm ET

Jeff – Thats just the point – the story says there WAS someone sitting there in the room with Bill, Hillary and Gov. Richardson. This is a first hand account of an unamed source of what they heard not what they were told or read. You can argue with the story based on the anonymity of the source but not what they say they heard.

Slick Hilly   April 3rd, 2008 5:25 pm ET

I didn't say he can't win. I said he can't be allowed to win. Because it's my turn. Mine! Mine! Mine!

Kathy Jourgeson   April 3rd, 2008 5:25 pm ET

I think that Hilary is kind of spoiled. What make you thnk that you are the only one ,who can be President of Usa.Barack is as intelligent as you are and is honest. He does not use negative tactics to be sucessful.Hilary be less arrogantand focus in the issues that really matters.

Obama supporters are awful.

GCG - Austin, TX   April 3rd, 2008 5:21 pm ET

This is a clear case of "He Said/She Said" and unless we were there, we don't know. If the sources with "direct knowledge" that ABC cites do not come out publicly and state how they have this knowledge, then the public will not know any more than it does today. To state that one side is lying or the other is just plain bunk and not at all healthy.

Nowhere Man   April 3rd, 2008 5:21 pm ET

With every word that comes out of her mouth, her nose grows longer ....

Obama '08!

Tupac   April 3rd, 2008 5:21 pm ET

Maybe she was sleep deprived from being awake from 3am phone calls for Bill that she misspoke again.

Enough of Bush and Clintons... can we bring in some new blood please.

David   April 3rd, 2008 5:21 pm ET

Earlier Thursday, citing sources with “direct knowledge of the conversation,” ABC News reported Clinton once told Richardson, "He [Obama] cannot win, Bill. He cannot win."

Which means she lied again.

She's like the Energizer Bunny.....She keeps lying and lying and lying.

If Obama lied once, everyone would drop him. Shows you the double standard of America!

MP-Pennsylvania   April 3rd, 2008 5:21 pm ET

CAN'T BELIEVE YOU ANY MORE!!!!!!

NW Independent   April 3rd, 2008 5:21 pm ET

The problem is BHO probably can't win. Poll simulation done by a professor at Washington University utilizing current polling suggests that he has less then a 10% chance of picking up the electoral votes needed. This is primarily due to his weekness in key swing states like OH, MI, PA and FL.

Jen B.   April 3rd, 2008 5:20 pm ET

Methinks the lady is "misspeaking" again.

Amit, NY, NY   April 3rd, 2008 5:20 pm ET

She MISSPOKE. It's not her mistake.

Kristina   April 3rd, 2008 5:20 pm ET

hillary sure is sending mixed messages

I just think she's trying to save her reputation once Obama gets the nomination.

Brian, Allentown   April 3rd, 2008 5:20 pm ET

After listening to the lies that have come out of her mouth this year, I'm disinclined to believe Hillary on this. It seems that she's simply upset that she lost another supporter.

Looks like the ship is taking on water and the captain is still trying to keep it afloat.

DFoster   April 3rd, 2008 5:20 pm ET

She did say McCain would make a better President. I guess she would vote republican if she doesn't get the nomination.

mary   April 3rd, 2008 5:20 pm ET

Richardson won't tell the truth.

Devon Perry   April 3rd, 2008 5:20 pm ET

Richardson is a traitor and do not represent the Latins because in New Mexico the winner was Hillary., same as in the other States with
big Latin population. He is always looking for his personal convenience and his recent attitude against the Clintons reveal him as a not reliable person .

Dan   April 3rd, 2008 5:19 pm ET

Maybe she was sleep deprived. This is ridiculous on her part. An answer like, "I don't recall it that way but hey does it really matter. Let's just call it a wash and move on," would sound so much more honest.

Miguelito   April 3rd, 2008 5:19 pm ET

Bill says otherwise Hillary. Which Clinton is lying this time? WAKE UP LATINO/AS It's time to switch sides.

sumner   April 3rd, 2008 5:18 pm ET

Presumably, the "direct sources" have no inherent reason to lie. She has every reason to lie, as she did with the story about bullets flying around her head.

If it's Clinton vs McCain, I might have to sit it out. I don't trust anything she says, nor do I think she could unite the country in any way at all. Probably just the opposite.

Cindy   April 3rd, 2008 5:17 pm ET

I just love it when people say, "shes lying, she's lying, she's lying."

Do you hear yourselves? You sound like a bunch of 1st graders!! lol

Beetlejuice   April 3rd, 2008 5:17 pm ET

And Bill claimed Richardson told him that he would not endorse Obama. Clinton claims Richardson said this "to my face 5 times".

In print, in an editorial earlier this week, Richardson denied he ever told Clinton that. Ever.

I think the truth and the Clinton's are becoming more and more estranged...

Angie, Charlotte NC   April 3rd, 2008 5:17 pm ET

I believe her. Richardson must have misunderstood her with all that sniper fire going on.

pmet   April 3rd, 2008 5:17 pm ET

She is lying! What a disgraceful, sad woman.

Tae   April 3rd, 2008 5:16 pm ET

I'm sure she's lying because both she and Bill have publicly said that McCain and Hillary would be good Presidents and loved the country, but Obama was "questionable". Now why should we believe that she wouldn't say that on a private phone conversation?

FrankSmith   April 3rd, 2008 5:16 pm ET

If this nation can fall for the lies of the Clintons in recent years, I do not think Richardson has a chance here. I mean those people who go out to vote for any Clinton after all the sins of the past that they have presented to this nation should stop and think again!

Carol   April 3rd, 2008 5:15 pm ET

She should start writing down her lies so she can keep track of them. She keeps getting caught.

PJ   April 3rd, 2008 5:14 pm ET

Of course she is going to deny it. If she doesn't deny it, then people who feed off of drama will use that against her. If she does deny it, then people who feed of off of drama will use that.

I believe she has shot her credibility, and I am not a supporter of hers. But it is a shame that she has done such to her own credibility that people could theoretically say just about anything now and she will come out the loser in the situation. I believe Richardson in this case, but who knows for sure?

Heck Hillary, he CAN'T win. Even Richardson agrees with you. Check out ABC's report on Bill Richardson:

"here's a wrinkle, from a source with direct knowledge of Richardson's conversations with the Clintons: Richardson himself told Sen. Clinton and former President Clinton that he didn't think Obama could win, back when he was (according to the Clintons) telling them earlier this year that he wouldn't endorse Obama.

"Too inexperienced," Richardson said, the source tells ABC News.

With an endorsement like that, Obama must really be desperate!

What else would one expect from Billary? I would have been shocked out of my eye sockets if she actually told the truth. That is the type of low expectation leadership that her presidency will be about.

Phoenix   April 3rd, 2008 5:09 pm ET

Jeff Radun is right. It's just one of those non-provable statements that both parties can make to cover themselves and give partisans something to cry about. I, for one, cringe at all these "Candidate X is a liar" statements that do not address a specific topic or offer specific, researchable, objective proof. We know that both of them have misspoken, been misquoted, meant something else, didn't put it in those words, were out of context, etc. And, we also have some more specific factual contradictions which can be objectively mentioned. Let's stick to particulars.

Jeff   April 3rd, 2008 5:09 pm ET

Radun –
don't bother trying to reason with the Hillary haters, she could cure cancer and they'd find a way to put her down for it.

Jeff, Huntington Beach, CA   April 3rd, 2008 5:09 pm ET

Hillary is nothing but a liability. Her dishonesty and win at all cost attitude shows her to be too self centered to be of any good for this country. Do we want another Bush of a different stripe in The White House?

"Cannot win" as in, we can not allow a black person to ruin our centuries-long domination of this naive country?

Donald, SC   April 3rd, 2008 5:09 pm ET

Hillary, Hillary, Hillary, please stop misspeaking!

Joel   April 3rd, 2008 5:09 pm ET

Did she misspeak?

Maybe she's saying she misspoke when she told Mr. Richardson that originally.

Oh, wait – the people that witnessed her saying that statement – they misspoke. I got it now.

Lee, Red Bluff, CA   April 3rd, 2008 5:08 pm ET

Jeff – Exactly right.

There are reports that Richardson actually told Clinton that he thought Obama was not electable because he is too green and he wouldn't endorse him.

drew   April 3rd, 2008 5:08 pm ET

She's absolutely right, Obama can't win. If he becomes the nominee, John McCain is going to walk right into the White House in January.

Typical Obama's supporters who drank the kool-aid!

jp/michigan   April 3rd, 2008 5:07 pm ET

Hillary is no more disgraceful that the Obama supporters ( Kerry, Leahy and Dodd) telling Clinton to drop out of the race, before all American had a chance to vote. The Obama supporters call them selves democratic. They are afraid of Hilary, that's why they are pushing for her to drop out.

SR(Queens, NY)   April 3rd, 2008 5:07 pm ET

Who can believe anything she says at this point??? If it weren't for the cameras and Sinbad, she would have us believing she was G.I. Jane!!

finpower   April 3rd, 2008 5:06 pm ET

its not that he can not win (the fact is he will not win ) BEST CHANCE TO WIN IN NOVEMBER IS HILLARY . THE REPUBLICANS WILL TEAR HIM APART . KARL ROVE IS ALREADY DONATING HIS EXPERTISE TO THAT MISSION AND HE DOESN'T CARE ABOUT THE BLACK VOTE . THEIR ALREADY COUNTING WHEN THE DEBATE HAPPENS ALL HE WILL BE ABLE TO SAY IS (HOPE &CHANGE ) PEOPLE WILL NOT TRUST THAT IN THE END . I UNDERSTAND HOW THEY THINK I AM A REAGEN DEMOCRAT .IT'S PRETTY EASY TO DEFINE NO SUBSTANCE . FROM A STRATEGIC POINT OF VEIW (NO HILLARY NO WHITE HOUSE )

THE NAKED TRUTH!!!   April 3rd, 2008 5:06 pm ET

I know. It is Richardson that is lieing. He is in the Obama camp. The snake pit of liars. HILLARY 08 or nobody.

Richard Gozinya   April 3rd, 2008 5:05 pm ET

Bill had a problem with the definition of the word "is".

Now Hillary seems to have a similar problem with the word "no" as in "that's a no", related to the alleged statement "He (Obama) cannot win"

Seems that just maybe everyone else isn't wrong and it is the Clinton's who "take a few liberties with the spoken words of our mother tongue"

Crystal Mitchell   April 3rd, 2008 5:05 pm ET

I'M SURE YOU SAID IT. WHY WOULD SHE NOT SAY IT. THE CLINTON'S FEEL THAT ARE ENTITLE TO THIS PRESIDENCY. THEY BELIEVE THAT THEY ARE OWED, WHY? LOOK AT HOW HER HUSBAND IS ACTING. THEY ARE ANGRY AT BILL RICHARDSON, FOR NOT ENDORSEING HILARY. BUT BILL RICHARDSON CAN ENDORSE WHOM HE WANTS. YOU WILL SEE THAT SHE SAID A LOT MORE THEN THIS. IT'S THIS TYPE OF ATTITUDE THAT IS THERE DOWNFALL.

JB Hull, IA   April 3rd, 2008 5:05 pm ET

so clinton is lying again. What else is new?

BAKARI   April 3rd, 2008 5:05 pm ET

ANOTHER LIE, KEEP IT UP HILARY YOU ARE WEAK AND YOU WILL CONTINUE TO BE WEAK.

Ken in RI   April 3rd, 2008 5:05 pm ET

If this were a "he said, she said" between Clinton and Richardson, I'd say that we should really move on. But the original story was reported from a source who apparently overheard Clinton tell Richardson that Obama couldn't win. Which means that either the source or Clinton is lying. I'd really like to know the answer to that, because it seems that the question "Is Hillary lying?" has been coming up an awful lot recently.

amanda   April 3rd, 2008 5:05 pm ET

what a shocker right? wrong!..... it's no news that she'll do and say anything to win the nomination incuding demeaning a fine candidate as Obama. Something about the Clintons...... hmm........ a word is enough for the wise............ l have a news flash for them, OBAMA WILL WIN NOT JUST THE NOMINATION, BUT THE PRESIDENCY ASWELL.

RW   April 3rd, 2008 5:05 pm ET

Hillary has lied so much; how can we possibly believe anything she say. It's sad our first female candidate for president and she start us off on a bad note. When the next woman come along it will be hard; because we are already seen as emotional beings and busy bodies. Hillary exemplifies both traits which will make it hard for any woman convince America that all are not like this. Hillary you have failed us; if you weren't going to run a clean campaign then you should have stayed out of the race.

John Kay   April 3rd, 2008 5:05 pm ET

Rod, first time voter   April 3rd, 2008 5:05 pm ET

DEM'S 08

Mike   April 3rd, 2008 5:05 pm ET

It has always seemed strange that after Texas, Ohio… Clinton started talking about a joint ticket with Obama… she started to see a trend that spelled disaster for the Democratic Party…

next thing you know Richardson goes against everything he had been stating in the press that the superdelegates should vote like their state did… after all of the talk about a joint ticket… he saw his dream of being a VP for Clinton slip away… he jumped ship and went with Obama… he still can not give a valid reason for going against the vote of his state and a clear reason why he choose Obama…

It is obvious that Richardson was offered something or he was upset that she was mentioning the joint ticket… Think about it!!! Now he wants his 15 seconds of fame...

Of course Bill Clinton got mad... what he thought was a friend lied to him... Richardson is going to lose support over this because he went against the popular vote in his state... the media needs to move on and quit asking Clinton about this...

Grayden   April 3rd, 2008 5:05 pm ET

Oh Hillary. The lies just keep pouring out from you. Given the integrity and honesty of Bill Richardson, do you really think anyone is going to believe that he is lying? You know you said this to Richardson and now you've been caught once again. Is this another Bosnia moment Hillary?

Stacy Clarks,   April 3rd, 2008 5:05 pm ET

how can we believe her? Maybe sniper fires were coming at her during that conversation as well!?!?!

OBAMA 08!!!!!!

When did Bill Clinton meet Richardson 5 times? I bet Clinto did not know his lie would be revealed. No wonder he went all RED!

Stung by her words   April 3rd, 2008 5:04 pm ET

Clinton's such a liar. First she lied about the Bosnia incident and now this. I trust Bill Richardson way more than I trust "Senator" Clinton.

Hillary is going down, how about them apples! Yes We Can!

Chuck   April 3rd, 2008 5:04 pm ET

Well, it isn't like she would lie, would she?

bizu   April 3rd, 2008 5:03 pm ET

Ben   April 3rd, 2008 5:02 pm ET

i totaly understand why bill richardson endorsed barack obama instead of hillary clinton. the last weeks and months in the clinton campaign were nasty and abhorrent. it's a bad political style that divides this great country and bill richardson don't support such a thing. and i give him a lot of credit for the decision to support obamas campaign, which bases on positive feelings. a campaign that connecting and inspiring people instead of dividing them. no more of the same old washington policy!

Can the media STOP calling the Clintons liars, or is civility too much to ask for from the press? I don't hear anyone calling Obama a liar over many questionable remarks.

Rachel   April 3rd, 2008 5:01 pm ET

Hmm... maybe she was getting shot at by snipers while she was telling Richardson this, so she probably doesn't quite remember. I jest, I jest.

Terry in Texas   April 3rd, 2008 5:01 pm ET

It is no wonder of the three candidates left in the race, Senator Clinton is considered and by far, the most dishonest. I choose no to believe nor to bow down to Her Majesty Hillary and her henchman that bully people behind the scenes.

Rom   April 3rd, 2008 5:00 pm ET

Please God, do in such a way that the phone conversation between her and Richardson was recorded on tape, thus we can make a footage and play it over and over as the "Bosnia sniper lie" !!!
Knowing her, I am sure she's the one who is not telling the truth about this story

gary   April 3rd, 2008 5:00 pm ET

Richardson your a stinken traitor and a lier. You make good being with O.B. ,for he is a lier too. He has this country sold on his smooth speeches. His book of life is closed to the country though. He tells everyone what he wants to ,and what they want to hear. The old saying is. What you dont know wont hurt you.Think about it O.B. supporters.

And she's never lied before!

NittanyLion4Bama   April 3rd, 2008 5:00 pm ET

Here's another example of her lying

Hilliary – "I never told Bill that Obama can't win"
ABC new – "Maam we have a documented conversation of you saying "He cannot win, Bill, He cannot win."
Hillary – "Well that was bizarro Hillary, not me, I would never say or do anyting to hurt the democratic party"

Von Ripon, CA   April 3rd, 2008 5:00 pm ET

Yeah, she didn't say that, just like she didn't say that Chelsea was jogging in front of the WTC on 9/11. She is past the point where she can win. She is now in the process of making sure Obama can't win. She had better hope there is not video of her making these comments to Richardson. If there is, it's all over.

Lee WV   April 3rd, 2008 5:00 pm ET

She doesn't spell very well either it's Richardson.

lol   April 3rd, 2008 5:00 pm ET

she'll win, he outspends her 4-1, and he still can't win the big states. who cares if she said he can't win, she is in it to win. this is such a non story. cnn your obama bias is really nauseating! Quit shoving barack down america's throats. we are capable of choosing our own candidate.

Vacman   April 3rd, 2008 5:00 pm ET

I think she misspoke once again!!

A Voice of Reason   April 3rd, 2008 5:00 pm ET

He said, she said... great tabloid press content. How these candidates have run their campaigns, strategy, content, organization, and management, speaks more about their viablity to serve in the Oval Office. By his own admission, McCain said, he "can't match" Obama. In every respect, HRC and McCain cannot match Obama this time around.

jl   April 3rd, 2008 4:59 pm ET

WATCH OUT FOR THE GROWING NOSE!!!

fr: Canada   April 3rd, 2008 4:59 pm ET

HILLARY I DO NOT BELIEVE YOU. YOU AND BILL CRIED , & CRIED BECAUSE HE WENT TO OBAMA, SO I BELIEVE YOU
WOULD SAY SOMETHING LIKE THAT. YOU ARE A INCONCIDERATE PERSON EVERYONE SHOULD JUMP TO YOUR WHIMS & COMMANDS.

Jane Alt   April 3rd, 2008 4:59 pm ET

You know she is a liar. She will denie it anyway. She likes to lie to people.
How can American trust somebody like her in the white house.

PLEASE JUST DROPOUT OF THE RACE

JP   April 3rd, 2008 4:59 pm ET

Hillary is lying, one lie lead to another lie and that's because it's more easier to lie than to tell the truth.

Colie Brice   April 3rd, 2008 4:58 pm ET

Liar, liar..

Pant suit on fire..

Marc   April 3rd, 2008 4:58 pm ET

Why would Richardson lie on Hillary. Of course she said it. She is sneaky like that.

NancyL-64   April 3rd, 2008 4:58 pm ET

Well, we have to believe her – she did dodge all that sniper fire!

mitch from ark.   April 3rd, 2008 4:58 pm ET

uhmmm....he's winning.

PD   April 3rd, 2008 4:57 pm ET

more lies, lies, lies from HRC

Brian   April 3rd, 2008 4:57 pm ET

Hillary, you've lost. Goodbye.

Democrats... get ready to mobilize behind the best candidate left in the field and the next President of the United States of America!

BARACK OBAMA '08!!!

andrea, Illinois   April 3rd, 2008 4:56 pm ET

The Clintons are just not telling the truth. I do not believe anything that's coming out of their mouths anymore. Kind of sad, especially Bill had some kind of respect that's now all disappearing. How can they be so stupid? Lies have a short life...... They are both risking their careers and personal credibility. It's time for them to face reality, before it's too late!

Dallas   April 3rd, 2008 4:56 pm ET

She probably did say that,,it's interesting how she has amnesia when she's busted,,urgh go home aunt Hill

Obama 08

Lee WV   April 3rd, 2008 4:56 pm ET

I quote Hillary "I remember well the conversation with Gov.Richards, there was sniper-fire and we were running for an armored car."

joe   April 3rd, 2008 4:56 pm ET

Richardson is lying sleaze bag and I hope he gets what he desreves...nothing.

ellianna   April 3rd, 2008 4:56 pm ET

Hillary Clinton Journal - Page ??????? Another day - Another lie!!! Same Song - Different Verse!! Poor Hillary - so many more lies to tell - too little time!!

Truth - NY   April 3rd, 2008 4:56 pm ET

Wasn't it Hillary who said McCain would make a better president! (democrat sellout). You know she said it! Wasn't she the one offering Obama who is ahead in all aspects a spot as VP? Please Hillary just admit it. If she didn't it would be uncharacteristical of her.
Obama 08

Maria F   April 3rd, 2008 4:55 pm ET

Liar, liar, pantsuit on fire.

My belief not yours   April 3rd, 2008 4:55 pm ET

Yeah and she probably told someelse that Richardson couldn't win. Who cares!!!!!!!!!! Put some real news on.

PS. If this is all that Richardson can bring to Obama then he's in trouble. Richardsons endorsement is a joke.

58 old white ladies   April 3rd, 2008 4:55 pm ET

WE ARE TIRED OF PEOPLE CALLING THE CLINTONS LIARS.

THEY ONLY LIE WHEN THEY OPEN THEIR MOUTH.

Ceci   April 3rd, 2008 4:55 pm ET

I do not think he can win the general election either.

kc   April 3rd, 2008 4:55 pm ET

HMMMM.. Why don't I believe her. Whatever..

Terry from VA   April 3rd, 2008 4:55 pm ET

And you believe her?

Ceci   April 3rd, 2008 4:54 pm ET

i don't think so either.

No Hillary   April 3rd, 2008 4:54 pm ET

Yea yea yea.... you and Bill Clinton are always right and others are always wrong......

marcus   April 3rd, 2008 4:54 pm ET

too bad we cant believe a word out of you mouth Mrs. Sniper Fire.... ahem i mean Clinton

OBAMA\GORE08

A. Boston, MA   April 3rd, 2008 4:53 pm ET

Is she a pathological lier or what?

Michael   April 3rd, 2008 4:53 pm ET

Another lie!

She goes around telling people that only she and NOT Obama can win and now denies it?

People of PA!

Observe this candidate very well, she's a liar and has no base. She'll do everything low and nasty to get your vote. Don't

Farrell, Houston, Tx   April 3rd, 2008 4:53 pm ET

I watched this interview with Hillary and she wouldn't deny that she told Richardson Obama couldn't win. Therefore, it leaves one with only the truth, she did say that to Richardson. Hillary continues to be her own worst enemy and create her own demise in this campaign.

Gobama from IB   April 3rd, 2008 4:53 pm ET

For the love of God and Country, would somebody – anybody- please tie the bell on Hillary?!?

david goldman   April 3rd, 2008 4:53 pm ET

SAY IT AIN'T SO!!!THE CLINTONS LYING AGAIN. CAN'T BE.

BRICE, GREENVILLE, SOUTH CAROLINE   April 3rd, 2008 4:53 pm ET

this is too funny. are people actually going to vote for her now that she has been caught in another lie. lets count: 1. nafta 2. bosnia 3. he can't win. I know there are more. this reminds me of the bill clinton impeachment when bill tried to redifine the meaning of the word IS.

Cindy- St. Louis   April 3rd, 2008 4:52 pm ET

Hillary is LYING AGAIN? This is news??

Obama 08

Deb   April 3rd, 2008 4:52 pm ET

This is news???????????

Me   April 3rd, 2008 4:52 pm ET

Dear Heavens are we suppose to believe she did not say this? Perhaps she was to busy dodging sniper fire to remember her comments.

mimi de la cruz   April 3rd, 2008 4:51 pm ET

THE CLINTONS ARE LIARS. NO ONE IN THEIR RIGHT MIND

BELIEVES A WORD THEY SAY.

Tex   April 3rd, 2008 4:51 pm ET

Another Hillary "misspeak." Hillary and Bill no longer really know what the truth is. So sad! And Hillary and Bill didn't sic James Carville and let him attack the Hispanic New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson.

Theresa   April 3rd, 2008 4:51 pm ET

Her "that's a no" reminds me of Bill's "i did not sleep with that woman." Who is she kidding? We haven't caught Bill Richardson misspeaking about sniper bullets.

HRC, it's over babe   April 3rd, 2008 4:51 pm ET

He says, she says....who should I believe?
Can I believe someone who has been caught red handed telling bold face lies?
Think twice Clintonites....

TEO   April 3rd, 2008 4:51 pm ET

Once again a selective memory! Give it up already. You're done and I use to like you.

Jackson   April 3rd, 2008 4:51 pm ET

Whether she said it or not ... NObama can't win!

bill   April 3rd, 2008 4:50 pm ET

We had gone more than 7 minutes without a story trying to make hillary look bad based on rumors. Glad to see the unbiased media is right on top of things. When did he-said she-said become news over actual fact checking and important issues?

Way to feed the Obama cult. Obama can 'forget" when he was in church but any ugly rumor is fair game in tearing down a strong woman.

Hang in there Hillary!

Tex'un   April 3rd, 2008 4:50 pm ET

Perhaps Hillary was under sniper attack at the time–and her memory failed again.

Madison , PA   April 3rd, 2008 4:50 pm ET

One more lie Bill and Hillary Clinton: I did not have sex with Monica...
I aws in Bosnian under snipers... What else... You are losing your credibility... We don't want a liar president.. Go Obama or Go Mccain....!!!

Mike, Arkansas   April 3rd, 2008 4:50 pm ET

LOL here we go again. I really truely believe Richardson over Clintons anyday. Clintons lives have been so full of lies for many many years and I have not seen any long length of honesty to show me or prove to me that they have changed one bit.

Melanie, Female Texan for Obama   April 3rd, 2008 4:50 pm ET

She's a liar. Good for whoever leaked this. I was really wondering what the "uncomfortable" conversations with her are like.

Ruben   April 3rd, 2008 4:50 pm ET

WOW... I kind of have this feeling SHE IS LYING AGAIN!!! I think she will go down in history as the candidate who lied the most during a primary election. Unbelievable!

Sara Shamili   April 3rd, 2008 4:50 pm ET

Yes. Since you are so honest, everybody will believe you. Too late, my dear.

Mike in Houston   April 3rd, 2008 4:49 pm ET

"...I can win because I believe I can win". That's her "consistent case"?

Dan (TX)   April 3rd, 2008 4:49 pm ET

No one but me is supposed to win! It's not fair! Boo Hoo!

No, wait, where's that phone at 3 a.m. again? I "misspoke" dodging sniper fire answering the question.

Did I say that out loud?? :)

Ilene   April 3rd, 2008 4:49 pm ET

Gee Hillary,
Guess which one of you I believe. I will give you three guesses and the first two don't count.

DeWayne Jackson   April 3rd, 2008 4:49 pm ET

You never say never, but she is definitely most "electable" of the two based on her experiences and solutions to the problems facing the USA.

She has become very humble and I know she knows that O'Bama is a force to reckon with, but I feel she knows that she is up against strong competition, but Hillary, just hang on in there. These last remaining 10 states along with Florida and Michigan will carry you on to the nomination in August.

Just continue to work hard and stay as consistent as you can.

You will be our next "President of these our United States of America".

Rancher in Hawaii   April 3rd, 2008 4:48 pm ET

I can understand the misunderstanding. "Win" is the sound that a sniper's bullet makes.

Alonzo Demetrius   April 3rd, 2008 4:48 pm ET

Lord help us, I sure hope she is right and that Obama can't win....

Justin   April 3rd, 2008 4:48 pm ET

oh, c'mon, even my 11-year-old son would image you've siad it. I am not a Richardson's fan, but it is the most nature and logical conversation you would have with him based on your personality.

Just admit it , it is off record, so what..

michael, ny   April 3rd, 2008 4:47 pm ET

It will be funny if it turns out somebody had recorded this conversation.

maya   April 3rd, 2008 4:47 pm ET

Why is the media attacking Hillary?! This is ridiculous and offensive- why air a private conversation – just to fan the flames and stir up something?! Come on- imagine if private conversations btwn Barack and Rev Wright were aired?! I'm sick of this.

I'll stick with Hillary. Because she has a better health care plan and a more progressive and detailed economic plan. Period.

Grif   April 3rd, 2008 4:46 pm ET

He's just digging deeper in his Garbage Can... Hillary..
I would'nt worry ... He the Loser!!!

Come next Spring, he's Roots will also in question

mp   April 3rd, 2008 4:46 pm ET

Is anything out of her mouth the truth?...Look elsewhere Cintonites.

TAHARI, CT   April 3rd, 2008 4:46 pm ET

Ummm, who ran...ducking snipper fire?

Why should we believe anything for the Clinton camp anymore?

Greg   April 3rd, 2008 4:45 pm ET

Yet another distortion of the truth by Hillary Clinton.

Stop the presses.

matt w   April 3rd, 2008 4:44 pm ET

what I would pay to hook hillary up to a lie detector. She would break the machine.

Pathetic, can't you even be honest during your final days?

Marc in DeKalb, IL   April 3rd, 2008 4:44 pm ET

... uhm, but yet you'll run smear campaigns that are designed to convince America that he can't win, yet you feel that, based on your statement... he can.

Oh, no wait, you are using DoubleSpeak... I'm sorry, I thought you had stopped being Hillary Clinton for a second.

Angus McDugan   April 3rd, 2008 4:44 pm ET

She seem to have another issue with the truth or her recolection of events.

Brandy   April 3rd, 2008 4:44 pm ET

You can't believe a word that comes out of that woman's mouth! He say, she say....all day long. Hillary just do the Dems a favor and exit this presidential race!

Sean   April 3rd, 2008 4:43 pm ET

She's constantly said that Obama can't win against McCain. She said it again today. Why is she lying again?

yogi   April 3rd, 2008 4:43 pm ET

She said it just like she said she ws under sniper attack

Obama Supporter   April 3rd, 2008 4:42 pm ET

Maybe the sniper fire in the background during the discussion caused her to misspeak.

Jeff in WI   April 3rd, 2008 4:41 pm ET

Like I believe you.

truth matters   April 3rd, 2008 4:41 pm ET

So Hillary is calling Richardson a liar?

Who is she to be calling someone else a liar? When did Richardson ever claim on three occasions that he dodged sniper fire?

Jeff Radun   April 3rd, 2008 4:41 pm ET

Uless you had someone sitting with Bill, Hillary and Richardson there is no way you know what they said

vanchava   April 3rd, 2008 4:41 pm ET

She's lying

AGAIN

wow... this women is truly a disgrace

Celia Ann   April 3rd, 2008 4:40 pm ET

WOW!!!! Bill didn't have a meltdown either, the 16 people in the room were lying and so was the newspaper. We just have to video tape everything from now on.

She is trying to smear Gov Richardson. Its pretty shallow
