Watch Clinton on Leno Thursday night.

(CNN) — It was a gaffe that caused the Clinton campaign a serious headache two weeks ago, but in an appearance on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno Thursday night, the New York senator was all smiles about it.

As she walked out on stage, Clinton told Leno she almost didn't make the interview.

"I was pinned down by sniper fire at the Burbank airport," Clinton said laughing.

The comments were in reference to the recent revelation that Clinton was not forced to make a dangerous landing and cover herself from sniper fire during a 1996 trip to Bosnia, despite her repeated claims to the contrary.

"You know this has been such a mismatch of words and actions," Clinton also told Leno. "I was thinking about it, because obviously I've been so privileged to represent our country in, gosh, more than 80 other countries, lots of war zones and all the rest of it — I wrote about this in my book and obviously I just had a lapse."

The New York senator also took aim at her husband in the interview, telling Leno that “He's doing a great job for me but he does get a little carried away sometimes."

And when Leno asked what she thought of her daughter, Chelsea, telling crowds on the campaign trail that she thinks her mother would be a better president than her father, Clinton responded, “Oh, you know, she’s such a smart young woman.”

Hillary is a pathological lier. She lies and lies and lies. Even on her tax returns. No more Bush-Clinton, Bush-Clinton dynasty, nada.

RT   April 4th, 2008 11:46 am ET

A mismatch of words and actions………… Oh, you mean LIE!!??

terry   April 4th, 2008 11:46 am ET

I see a lotta Hillary haters out there, CNN leading in the recent poll of polls. Shame on you all. Why do you fear her so much???

wwf   April 4th, 2008 11:46 am ET

I hope that Hillary will be able to laugh at herself when she looses.

CANDY   April 4th, 2008 11:46 am ET

I hope that all the remaining states rally behind Obama to keep the idot Hillary out of the White House with her lying and cheating husband.

Obama 08

Jayson   April 4th, 2008 11:46 am ET

um, Senator Clinton, so which country was it that you visited where you ran from the plane with your daughter while dodging sniper fire? Feel free to check video from all those visits.

seyi   April 4th, 2008 11:45 am ET

How stupid, people crack jokes on Minor gaffes, not major lies… Way to bring back your lies to the public… I wonder where her surrogates like Carville are, when she gets her advice… You lie on a sensitive issue and crack jokes about it??? She must take americans for a joke

Dennis   April 4th, 2008 11:45 am ET

I'm not sure being pinned down by sniper fire is a laughing matter. I also don't think that lying in that way is funny either. Seems she is suggesting that maybe it happened some place else, but she can't recall where.

Betsy   April 4th, 2008 11:45 am ET

Hillary all the way!! So she misspoke - so what? If you read what Muscatine and Verveer wrote about the trip, it wasn't as easy as it looked. You go girl!!! We love you Hillary!!!!

Chido Williams   April 4th, 2008 11:43 am ET

Its not funny at all-how can she downplay this-its a serious offense for a presidential candidate to make- Shame on you Hillary! Shame on you!

Independent   April 4th, 2008 11:42 am ET

Haha. Those jokes are as funny as Mr Bush when he said that being in military duty in Iraq and Afganistan i s"romantic"?

lol   April 4th, 2008 11:42 am ET

Hillary you are the best. you stay in the race. americans are waking up to the empty rhetoric from obama.

OR for Obama   April 4th, 2008 11:41 am ET

Hillary was sleep deprived! What does that mean at 3 a.m.? "Sorry i pushed the button, I was sleep deprived…So I made a mistake." Yeah, that makes me want her to make serious decisions.

carmen   April 4th, 2008 11:39 am ET

Yeah, Go Hillary. Go away and take Bill with you before be busts a zipper. Ps. the guy who says Canada is all for Hillary is a liar, which explains why he supports her. Luckily Canadians are a lot more like Obama.

radster   April 4th, 2008 11:39 am ET

If Hillary wins, will we be having the same conversations about Bill for 4 or 8 more years?

Franky   April 4th, 2008 11:39 am ET

But you know what??? Jay Leno did have a funny joke about Hillary that I thought was funny. What was it?? He said, who knew Hillary has more war stories than Senator McCain himself, LOL!!! Man, was I laughing when he said that…now that's funny…LOL!!

richard, Coweta Ok   April 4th, 2008 11:38 am ET

I would like to see the both of them carried away. In handcuffs.

Ben   April 4th, 2008 11:37 am ET

I think if everyone in the world were asked the questions, "Have you ever been shot at by snipers, yes or no?", 100% would be able to answer the question correctly, not counting the insane people and the people who are lying. Which one is she?

Former Obama supporter   April 4th, 2008 11:36 am ET

I love Hillary Clinton. She was so charming and funny last night on Jay Leno.

Andrew, Chicago   April 4th, 2008 11:36 am ET

I thought it was funny. What else can you do but laugh at yourself when you make a mistake.

John   April 4th, 2008 11:35 am ET

I saw the Tonight show segment and Senator Clinton was awesome!!! And where I come from there is nothing wrong with someone, man or woman, sticking up for their spouse.

Tim   April 4th, 2008 11:35 am ET

Hillary is the best candidate for President!!

See, lying makes you cool!! I'm cool!!!

Obama 08′ !!!!

Tex   April 4th, 2008 11:33 am ET

Hillary's latest gaffes, lapses and "misspeaks" could be published: Hillary finds Yeti on trip to Nepal; swam the length of the Nile in Egypt; ate goat tentacle stew in Argentina; brought peace to Canada; forced the Pope to bless in Vatican City; built a dam in the Sahara Desert and turned it into the most fertile farm lands in the world; won the Nobel Peace Award by ending world hunger, war and global warming; eradicated HIV in Africa; and on one weekend home in New York found the cure for flatulence.

You can just imagine the accomplishments and experiences she racked in visiting over 80 countries…in her mind!

RRH, Connecticut   April 4th, 2008 11:33 am ET

A Bosnia gap is not a serious problem. Denying you were in church listening to a preacher who is anti-white, anti-American and blames Americans for 9/11/0 is a serious problem. Obama denied ever hearing the Rev. Wright's racist preachings, then holds a free publicity press conference and admits he had heard him. That is serious, yet all he had to do was turn in his grandmother with an eloquent speech and the Teflon worked again!
At this point, Hillary supporters like myself will be her voice and if the media doesn't want to allow equality, then it's up to us. There are many blog sites where her supportive bloggers are great! The best part is your comments are immediately posted, not held in moderation for a day and NEVER deleted.
GO HILLARY! Your true friends will not desert you!!!!!

Ryan   April 4th, 2008 11:33 am ET

Hillary doesn't just mishear and misspeak, she also misremembers.

Derrick In Houston, TX   April 4th, 2008 11:32 am ET

"Has anyone forgot that Obama flat out lied about his pastor..
He said he never knew of any hate sermons.
Then 3 days later he all of a sudden remembered he did."

Benny, do you remember every single word that your pastor says on Sundays? 52 sundays in a year x 20 yrs= 1,40 sermons. Its very easy to forget words, but you dont forget dodging bullets and almost loosing your life and your daughters.

Ryan   April 4th, 2008 11:32 am ET

According to a news article posted here on CNN research has stated that women lie more often than men and that women are also better at lying than men. Hillary is a terrible liar.

Anonymous   April 4th, 2008 11:31 am ET

If you don't want a president that consistently lies, then we need to change our constitution and the way our country is run!

Paulinus, Canada   April 4th, 2008 11:31 am ET

Unbelievable for her to make fun of the Bosnia's incident. Madame, you are running for the Presidency of a Country. People need to have faith and trust in you. America wake up.

Corey's Corner   April 4th, 2008 11:31 am ET

A lie is a lie Hillary. However, I understand you probably felt that this platform would allow you to attempt to get out of you lie. Lets move on from this because we all know the lie. you could have defended that other lie as well (Obama cannot win). Obama is winnig and will be our next president. We can like you much more again Hillary. You are not the worst person in the world. I look forward to Obama winning so we can like you again because I believe that you will be a different likable person.

Lisa from PA   April 4th, 2008 11:30 am ET

Oh come on. Making light of her lies is just one more tactic. I can't believe the talk show hosts are buying it. I know the American people aren't. She can't be trusted.

Joe - Wilmington, DE   April 4th, 2008 11:30 am ET

A bad joke…just like Hillary's campaign for the Democratic nomination.

Mikey, Scottsdale AZ   April 4th, 2008 11:30 am ET

To Billary, Rocky, Paulette Revere, and Whomever You May Be Today !

Please save our Party, which in case you have forgotten it's the Party that is in small print on your resume , and consider serving in the position that you wanted which is, you told us , Senator of NY . isn't that good enough ?

And you would be closer to continue the Stand Up Comic routine on the David Letterman show ! Have a nice day !

KLangguth   April 4th, 2008 11:29 am ET

Lying about sniper fire is NOT FUNNY when our troops in Iraq are getting killed by sniper fire and roadside bombs every day. I think the American public is finally waking up to Senator Clinton. Instead of making jokes on Leno that insult the bravery of our troops, maybe she should stay up to 3 AM and pay the small businesses that are getting stiffed by her campaign.

Dave   April 4th, 2008 11:29 am ET

Bill getting carried away? Finally, an idea I can get behind! Someone, please, carry Bill away!

I don't know how the unelectable Hillary can continue to claim she made a "misstatement" when she told her bogus story on at least three seperate occasions, with plenty of details. That's not a slip of the tongue… that's a LIE. And now she thinks it's funny? Our troops who've actually been under fire don't think so.

jim   April 4th, 2008 11:29 am ET

Watching her on the Jay Leno show last night poking fun at her lies about Bosnia made me sick in my stomach.
This is the worst garbage i have ever come out of her mouth.
We lost 1000.s of soldiers in that war and she pokes jokes about it,
I wonder what she will say or lie about the soldiers in Iraq a year from now??????????
This is evil at its highest level…………..How can any level headed American ever vote for this foul mouthed woman/

Alex   April 4th, 2008 11:29 am ET

If Obama gets the nomination I will quit the Democratic party and gladly vote for and give money to McCain. No more arrogant "uniters" that don't know what they're doing, we had enough of that with Bush.

Lars Larson   April 4th, 2008 11:29 am ET

I love people calling potential presidents names. That's great. Are we now in the 4th grade? C'mon people. You don't like them, state why.

Name calling doesn't need to happen.

rich   April 4th, 2008 11:27 am ET

If this were the only instance where she "mispoke" than yes, it would be unfair to make such a big deal about this. But it is an unmistakeable pattern. If she would have just admitted she lied most fair people would be long over this. Instead she addressed the issue with yet more dodges and half-truths. I've heard Obama admit he was wrong on a number of occasions and I see this as a strength any leader must have. The best way to fix a mistake is to face it straight on. Hillary is dellusional about what votes should matter in this campaign (all vote, votes from big states, all votes but with pledged delegates able to ignore, etc. ) .

Manuel TX   April 4th, 2008 11:27 am ET

Hillary's suitcase has more international experience that Obama.

You Obama supporters really, really, HATE Hillary. That's your option.

It's my option not to vote for Obama.

:)

Mimi in Chicago   April 4th, 2008 11:27 am ET

I feel bad for Billary with these last few "lapse's" and "misspoke's". Hopefully she will come out of this fight with her character still in tact. Remember she is a child of God just like the rest of us.

Charlotte   April 4th, 2008 11:27 am ET

If Barack Obama had "misspoken" as she did, and then joked about it on Leno, there would be an uproar, and the first to say something about it would be Hillary.

Ryan   April 4th, 2008 11:27 am ET

I fail to see the comedy in being shot at by snipers.

Sue   April 4th, 2008 11:26 am ET

The Clinton campaign just keeps getting worse. In addition to "misspeaking" about being under sniper fire, she has had to apologize for her husband a number of times. Why doesn't she just tell him to shut up. There have been times when I thought he was deliberately trying to sabotage her campaign. His big ego is one of his big problems and he loves the limelight. Put a cork in it Bill and shut up.

Dina   April 4th, 2008 11:26 am ET

That was awkward. Who jokes about sniper fire on national television in the midst of a presidential campaign???? It's kind of pathetic. :-/

Kelly, Austin, Tx   April 4th, 2008 11:26 am ET

It's rather funny that the Obama supporters want to hold her feet to the fire about the Bosnia gaffe, (which she correctly wrote about her book) but they never mention anything about Obama's gaffe about his parents conceiving him after meeting at the Selma March (he was born 4 years before), his father being flown in from Kenya by the Kennedy's,(the Kennedy's werent involved in those flights until the following year) he never knew about Rvd. Wright's sermons and now saying he would have left the church if the Rvd hadnt retired, (about 20 years too late), etc. There has been embellishment on ALL sides. I am more concerned with WHO has actually achieved change for ALL Americans, not just hoped for it.

Jessica, MI   April 4th, 2008 11:25 am ET

The other funny thing is that within the past week or so, Leno had two actors doing a "town hall" as Clinton and Obama. "Hillary" made a comment about having to dodge sniper fire on the way into the studio.

sorta plagiarism-esque, don't ya think

fairandstraight   April 4th, 2008 11:24 am ET

What does being a woman have to do with being a liar? Hillary will just about do anything to get elected.

Don   April 4th, 2008 11:24 am ET

Here you go Hillary……..when people don't like you that's mean you get the
point. Hillary stay long as you can until you get nominee but if you lose
please run for (PPP) People Power Party I think you going to win in general election.

Hillary 08 President.

Wendy   April 4th, 2008 11:24 am ET

Yea, I love it when liars get caught. Sort of like when Obama lied about not hearing the comments his minister made. Or about the true amount of money received and connections he has to Rezko. Or about the amount of money he gets from lobbyists. Or about how he prevented his competitor's name being on the ballot in Illinois when he ran for the Senate. Or about the money he took from the oil industry to support his campaign. Or……….

Yea I really lov e it when people get caught in lies…..

Vic   April 4th, 2008 11:24 am ET

I personally think it is disgusting she can come out and lie to the American People not once several times and then go on national television and act like it's a joke. That shows (again) her attitude on what she thinks of the everyday people. First she flip flops on Nafta when it's conveienent, then every vote counts but the pledged delegates don't..make up your mind Hillary Clinton! You can't believe a word from her mouth..she'll never get my vote no matter what she is running for.

Andrew   April 4th, 2008 11:24 am ET

I will not vote for an idiot or a racist , which eliminates the democrats

Hispanics now for Obama   April 4th, 2008 11:24 am ET

Wright is not a political issue! I'm tired of stupid people trying to bring this up. How will Wright bring down the economy????

However, we have seen for ourselves that Hillary cannot take fiscal responsibility of her own campaign, so my question is to you Hill supporters: How can she handle America's money problem if she can't even pay her own bills????

Wright or campaign debt, which is worse for the economy?

Charlotte   April 4th, 2008 11:23 am ET

This old, young at heart, retired white woman is proud to support the best candidate, Hillary Clinton. I've fought the fight for equal rights for women. We are still fighting it. The men of this country fought to keep us from having a voice. Black men were giving the right to vote before women. We have a chance to let them know we believe a woman can and will do a better job at running this country. Unite behind the best woman to do that job, Hillary Clinton.

Greg   April 4th, 2008 11:23 am ET

And there are people who think she's qualified to be President? Uhhh…sure. We need someone as dishonest, sleazy, socialist and power-hungry as Hillary. That's just what this great country needs. Only if you're cheering for the demise of the United States would you vote for Hillary!! For the ignorant and uninitiated: socialism is un-American. Always has been, always will be.

CNN…I'm watching you. STOP CENSORING comments that are not offensive!!

Jane Alt   April 4th, 2008 11:23 am ET

Hillary so you think is funny to lie. God will not be happy with you. Stop liying and say the truth so God can forgive you.

Irishspacemonk   April 4th, 2008 11:23 am ET

I think Hillary should give a speech on lying, to address the problem that runs rampant in American politics.

Marc   April 4th, 2008 11:23 am ET

We have Americans dying in actual war zones and she makes jokes about this to try and divert her LIES ?…………

She is a DISGRACE to our American troops and all Americans!!!!!

Bring respect into the White House vote Obama!

Franky   April 4th, 2008 11:23 am ET

You know, is a bit odd when you have Hillary saying something and her husband saying something else. I mean, is like seeing two different people with two different personalities. You just don't know who's serious…

As for Chelsea, I kind of feel bad for her because she has to deal with this. But on the other hand, I'm sure she could deal with it. I'm not going to lie, I'm surprised every time I find out that she's 28….that's crazy.

Charlotte   April 4th, 2008 11:22 am ET

Obama lies about NAFTA, Rev. Wright, Rezko, Pharmaceutical lobbist,(Obama has taken more money from them then Hillary) Exelon, Oil lobbist, That's why he can out raise her. This is okay to lie about, but not a fish story. She at least was in Bosnia, more then you can say for Obama, He can't even hold a meeting on a war zone.

Dick in Sioux Falls   April 4th, 2008 11:22 am ET

Hillary has been obviously advised to poke fun at herself in an attempt to minimize her transparent attempt to become some kind of heroic figure under fire. Even in the Tonight episode which I watched, she stated "I've been in lots of war zones." Oh, really, I thought the Bosnia experience was the first time a First Lady had been in a war zone since Eleanor Roosevelt, which also was a lie.

I've seen enough of Hillary taking advantage of free TV time, SNL, John Stewart's Daily Show, etc. I pray diligently that the Pennsylvania electorate will make history by being the state that put an end to her attempt to extend the Clinton Dynasty.

Dominoid   April 4th, 2008 11:22 am ET

Senator Clinton, making light of being pinned down by sniper fire is a slap in the face to our men and women placing themselves in danger every day so that you can continue to lie about your experience. Have some respect.

David   April 4th, 2008 11:21 am ET

She thinks it's funny to be a pathological liar???

The Clintons need to by their double-wide, move back to Arkansas,
and get the HELL out of our lives FOR GOOD!!!

voter   April 4th, 2008 11:21 am ET

This isn't funny to the many that lost and risked their lives. Hillary is an opportunist piggy backing on other peoples tragedies. Pay your bills!

Dennis   April 4th, 2008 11:21 am ET

Clinton is fake and I don't trust her. McCane is crazy from being a POV for 5 1/2 yours but he is honest. Give me a honest man any time over someone that is not. Why is it so hard for her to say, I was wrong on the war and move on —

Obama will give my vote.

Terry, El Paso TX   April 4th, 2008 11:21 am ET

Those of you who are taking potshots at Obama or Clinton seem a bit carried away. Neither candidate is perfect, and none of the bloggers who post here are perfect either. Some of your comments are much more exaggerated than anything either candidate has said.

"She should be drug by the scruff of her neck to Walter Reed hospital and made to apologize to every combat wounded vet she could find. She's beyond a sleazy politician. "

Sometimes, when you talk all day every day, you say things that are not well thought out and not well composed. Your mouth is on autopilot. Having been a teacher for years, I have said things about computer science that I later had to correct or modify for my students. My mouth was talking about one thing and my brain was thinking about something entirely different. Hillary would not lie about something that can be easily and quickly verified. She is not an idiot.

"Obama lied about not hearing his just like an Uncle, Rev. Wright, making "controversial) which others have defined as "racist" remarks, in a church he has attended for twenty years! "

Personally, I've been to plenty of church services and I haven't listened to a sermon yet. I'd like to give all of you a quiz on what your minister said six months ago.

"Obama will never win the White House!!! He and his wife are both SLEAZE!!!!"

If you were a candidate, you'd spend the next four months trying to retract that comment.

suzy   April 4th, 2008 11:21 am ET

Do you all forget that OBAMA lied to the public on national television 3 TIMES over the last month….NAFTA, WRIGHT, REZKO. Give me a break!
Tell me why that's OK - this guy can do no wrong!!!!
You guys are having the wool pulled over your eyes!!!
He is nothing more than another politician doing whatever he can to win this nomination, and if you think otherwise, I fear you will be disappointed….He talks about the status quo and NOT going down that route, but he is courting ALL the status quo!!!!
You guys are unbelievably blind….

Peg   April 4th, 2008 11:21 am ET

This is a terrible thing for Hillary to do. Why would she make fun of something so serious as sniper fire? It's a slap in the face to those who have experienced such a thing. She did not have a "lapse," because she said it three times.

Someone should ask Chelsea about it and why she didn't correct her Mother……my daughters would have!

Unfortunately, Hillary is finally showing her true colors and the American people can see she isn't "Presidential" material.

Tracy   April 4th, 2008 11:21 am ET

What a slap in the face to the American voters. Hillary Clinton's mysterious ability to turn a $1,000 investment into a $100,000 profit on cattle futures.

Kim P. Atlanta, GA   April 4th, 2008 11:19 am ET

Please, spare me. A lie is a lie. To make fun of this just shows the hubris and insolence of Hillary Clinton. I wonder if the families of men/women who are attacked, and killed under sniper fire finds her little joke amusing.

ben   April 4th, 2008 11:19 am ET

She's trying to make a real issue go away through a joke? Puh-leeze! The reality is, she lied to try and boost her "experience." First she "misspoke," and now now she jokes about it.

The real joke is her.

Not even for dog catcher   April 4th, 2008 11:18 am ET

What other war zones and 80 countries did you visit that you did absolutely nothing for but want to take credit for?

So far when you bring up your experience you are 0-4 (Bosnia, Northern ireland, NAFTA and Health care) all LIES.

I agree with the smart folks that know when you are "you know" lying, unlike your husband who points his impeached and disbarred finger and bites his intern loving lips, you say "you know".

You are losing because "you know" we know you and flatly don't like you or your policies and politics.

What's that expression the Democrats use when they are caught in a lie "I apologize if anyone misunderstood what I meant".

Ready to mislead from day one

AF Sgt in Colorado   April 4th, 2008 11:18 am ET

I am in the Air Force and have made three trips to the Middle East. I have months and months of experience in theater. While there, there were missiles fired and truck bombs attempt to hit the installations where I was stationed. Having said that, I know the gravity of the situations I was in and do not feel there is humor there at all. I volunteered to serve in the Air Force and proudly served where my country sent me. I don't claim I am owed anything, nor do I wish to exploit my experiences for personal gain.

Now to Senator Clinton - she landed in Bosnia, under what would have been a highly defended area. Trust me, the US Military will not allow any of our elected officials to become military targets - those are the things that lead to wide-scale wars, i.e. World War I.

Senator Clinton, in her lust for the Presidency, gambled in retelling a story of her First Lady's days, hoping to exploit a diplomatic trip to Bosnia, to show her in some type of Commander-in-Chief role (going in harm's way). She was found out to have lied - with proof.

Therefore, she is a liar.

How many other lies has she told and the truth has remained hidden?

Credibility - Integrity - Honesty. All these are lost with her and the fabric of her character is clear. The American people should shun her and not only should she withdraw from the presidential race - the Congressional Ethics Committee should look into her statements and actions. She is supposed to be a "Public Servant" not a "Self Serving Politician."

Senator Clinton - your actions, statements, and intentions are no laughing matter.

Tammy - KCMO   April 4th, 2008 11:18 am ET

I found no humor in her appearance. It looked totally scripted and fake. Changed the channel. Don't know why Leno was such an idiot to even have her make an appearance. Letterman was much better to watch last night.
She does a better job of lying than making a joke about her lies. I won't vote for her. I don't trust her.

Lynn in NM   April 4th, 2008 11:18 am ET

Nothing better to do Hillary than to go on Jay Leno to try and save some face from your continuing misrepresentations? I for one truly can not wait to see what you have up your sleeve the next 2 weeks because the public is increasingly on to you and whatever you try is only going to make it worse for yourself…..in other words..YOUR STUCK! I think it was a very good move on Clinton's part; she's trying to show herself as human. Appearing on The Daily Show, SNL, and Leno was a great plan for her.

So what if cnn is a little bit biased in her favor? All other news outlets are pro-Obama. If you don't like what they're reporting, read your news somewhere else!

l. hawks   April 4th, 2008 11:18 am ET

Hillary is going to win, and that's a good thing, because she is competent and smart, Obama isn't ready, and McCain is pro-war and anti-choice. GO HILLARY!!!

Dale   April 4th, 2008 11:17 am ET

Okay, let's see: We now know for sure that Hillary mishears and misspeaks.

All she needs now is to miss-smell and miss-taste and the Clintons will have all the sense covered. We already know Bill miss-touches.

Gwen   April 4th, 2008 11:17 am ET

They forget to keep reporting the whole context. They were told on the plane just before landing that there was sniper activity in the area. I'm sure it caused concern and it's probably something that stayed on her mind all these years, especially since her daughter was there and at risk. Fact is, she and Chelsea would have been targets. It probably was ever present in her mind as she moved on to greet the crowds and do what was asked of her, but no one wants to hear that, you'd all rather find fault and criticize. Don't forget we were very successful in our efforts in Bosnia and that conflict, all during Bill Clinton's admin.

LisaR   April 4th, 2008 11:17 am ET

Obama has been caught in a bunch of lies including his relationship with his minister and the fact that he had heard his minister make improper comments. Just a couple of days before his big speech he denied ever hearing them and then in his speech he admitted that he did. Oh yes…he disguised this lies with a good speech but let's get real… what a fantastic setup the media gave him to defend himself with. FREE CAMPAIGNING… He had months to develop a kick butt speech. He knew that this was going to come out and he took advantage of it. I have no respect for him.

Alina   April 4th, 2008 11:17 am ET

It is sad how she has all these sudden lapses (this actually happened twice, when she lied about Bosnia). And then, if she were to represent us on the scene of this big world, what if she forgot what was important about a specific situation in a certain country? Is she more senile than Mc Cain? How can she even imagine be able to defend American interest when she cannot remember what happens in one situation? Liar, and a bad one… It is not sense of humor, it is sheer shamelessness. Anything in order to get to that office. Does anybody want a president like that? What if she "forgets", after she gets elected, about what she promised in the campaign? After all, these are all so many words, so many issues…

Military   April 4th, 2008 11:17 am ET

I don't think the family of died military relatives will think Hillary's joke was funny at all.

rajah kahn   April 4th, 2008 11:16 am ET

WOW!!!!!!!!!!this lady has no shame…She had mentioned that Bosnia uner fire trips to EDUCTED audiences 3 or 4 times, and now she makes a joke out of that. What is wrong with her,,Those voters are really stupid in Pennsylvania and Indiana to vote for her….Such a pathological liar…

marc from indiana   April 4th, 2008 11:16 am ET

You people need to lighten up. For Christ sake, she is a democrat, lying is their craft. As much as I despise the Clintons, I have to admire her humor.

Brian Rich   April 4th, 2008 11:16 am ET

Sorry Hillary, but you don't get the privilege of being able to laugh off your own lies. If someone else lies about you, then you get to laugh it off. But not when you lie about yourself and are caught red-handed.

Rick, Sioux Falls, South Dakota   April 4th, 2008 11:16 am ET

So let's have Hillary tell us where it actually was that she had to duck and run because of sniper fire. If she confused Bosnia with somewhere else, what's the actual location?

If she can't name the actual location and date, then we have confirmation of what most of us already believe. She was just lying.

Colt Seavers   April 4th, 2008 11:16 am ET

If it works once try it again. Hillary is so predictable! Remember when she cried and then appeared on Saturday Night Live with when she claimed the media was being nice to Barrack. Things got easier for her then. Now's she's betting on the same except that we have seen this garbage before. The only people who won't care are people that are her supporters come hell or high water or the Rush Limbaugh saboteurs. Wake up She's a crook and will try and win by any means neccessary!

CK Canon   April 4th, 2008 11:16 am ET

Let me get this straight from the Obama people on this thread: Hillary is "sick, nasty, fake, a sleazy and insane". You probably don't care, but it's people like you that have totally turned life-long democrats (and Hillary supporters) away from Obama. Try to take a step back and admit that Hillary did a great job on Leno, just like she did on SNL.

Obama has lied or misstated many times about Rezko and Wright. Now he's running false ads about his relationship to Oil Companies to win in PA. He's all nice and friendly on the stump, but then he has his surrogates do the dirty work. He's smoke and mirrors and little about change in America. He has ego the size of all the power brokers in Chicago combined! Wake up before it's too late!

She is "so done with the democratic party"? I am so done with you.

Hillary '08 or bust!

Marc   April 4th, 2008 11:16 am ET

Lee From Treasure Island Florida, tell your boy to accept the CBS debate in North Carolina. I guess he's afraid to go one on one with Senator Clinton. And Mary, you and the rest of the sheep need to quit saying that "she'll do anything to win" like it's a bad thing. Or maybe you're right… if Obama were losing in the polls, he would have packed it up by now and gone to the Virgin Islands for some R&R.

JO   April 4th, 2008 11:15 am ET

Funny…NOT…and how about the statement in Ohio that 'she had worked the overnight shift' …bet she mis-spoke on that one also…

mrb   April 4th, 2008 11:15 am ET

Obama should have waited till 2016. That was the general concensus and it was a correct one. If he wins the nomination he will never win against McCain. The better for Hillary because he will be finished for the forseeble future. His arrogance has made him destroy the democratic party, and yes, Obama is going to be the responsible one for McCain's win. Not Hillary.

Brenna   April 4th, 2008 11:15 am ET

Does anyone know anything about Jerry Zeifman's comments about Hillary Clinton lying? There are occasional emails coming out about something that happened years ago where her honesty was totally discredited.

Her making a joke about her sniper fire lies is disgusting. We have our young men and women in Iraq who are attacked FOR REAL every single day. This is NOT a joke.

Ryan G.   April 4th, 2008 11:15 am ET

Benny:

You're misrepresenting what Obama said. He said he didn't hear those specific statements. Then he said he did hear other contraversial statements. There's no lie in that.

DGH   April 4th, 2008 11:15 am ET

Obama has lied about far more serious, far more troubling things than Hillary, who has only exaggerated this story from her memory. Nothing serious, nothing that could negativley impact the country.

OBAMA IS THE LIAR! WHY DON'T YOU HILLARY HATERS GET THAT? OH RIGHT, YOU DON'T WANT TO.

oliver   April 4th, 2008 11:15 am ET

The Clintons think it's fun to lie.

No wonder her popularity rating are so low!

Hillary is such a joke.

I am baffled at some of these remarks! Hillary was caught in a flat out Lie coming from HER own mouth - How could anyone in their right mind who can make sound judgment still support this woman? You will be lied to just like Bush has lied to us for the past 8 years! I am begining to think folks backing Hillary are hung up on color. Obama has been put to the test and has proven to be the right one for the job! I bet the folks in Ohio must feel pretty stupid right now to have voted for a woman who lied about never suporting NAFTA - now records show she was a key supporter! Guess some people are just SLOWWWWW!

Mike   April 4th, 2008 11:14 am ET

All of you are fools… I can not believe that Obama supporters go to great extreme to bash anything about Clinton…

Bosnia… She was diverted because of possilbe sniper fire… they landed out on the tarmac, sitting in the rear of the plane with the military vehicles, told to put vests on, black hawks circled the airport before they were let off the airplane… they had a small greeting party and from the video they all were trying to look calm… Sinbad had the vest on and was looking all around the landing zone… don't try to say that he was not nervous… get the information before you start calling her a liar… she had a gaffe about a story 12 years old…

It is great to see her laugh at herself… that is a very rare quality that all of us struggle with !!!

Huh? REALLY?   April 4th, 2008 11:14 am ET

The only fire Hillary is pinned down by is the machine-gun spray of nonsense from her own lips. What an absolute dolt.

Now I ask you, if Obama went on TV and made fun of Rev. Wright (which was a true, but unfortunate situation, unlike Hillary's sniper fire), do you think Hillary would let him get away with it? Of course not.

You watch the Obama camp about this Leno visit. Do you know what they'll say? Nothing. Because they have ethics and because they are focused on REAL issues.

Hillary, I used to adore you and Bill. Neither of you are the person you used to be. Like Rocky, you should have retired years ago, and stopped annoying us. Please, in the name of all that is good for America, pack your bankrupt campaign up, and GO HOME!

Corey, Maryland   April 4th, 2008 11:14 am ET

I was talking to a friend of mine about this and he brought up a good point. If you mispoke about being under sniper fire then it obviously had to have happened to you sometime in your life, maybe just not at this instance. So when a few reporters asked her that very same question she didnt even answer the question. Just ANOTHER example of the Clintons playing their favorite game of "Lying to the American People."

Just when I think she won't go any lower she does. I am soooooooo sick of her. She can't even pay for her campaign employees health insurance. And her supporters are counting on her to fix health care and the economy. Now she's making unauthorized charges to her donors credit cards. People are screaming about it all over the blogs but I doubt you guys at the Clinton News Network will report on it. After all, as far as I know there is yet to be a 20 minute sound bit on it.

Wonder how bad she's doctored those tax returns?

Post this CNN I dare you!

The only thing sadder than such lying is the number of sheep who are blindly loyal to her. She and Bill tell big lies when little lies will do, and tell little lies when the truth won't hurt. I'm not saying Obama is the answer, but I just can't believe that anyone–especially so many women–would so stridently trust her and ignore 17 years of her BS. (And for purposes of discussion, I am a member of her chosen demographic–an educated white woman north of 40).

Pennsylvania voters need to know that she went on national tv three times and gave a very personal and vived account of her Bosnia trip.
Is that what we want in America ??????????? Some one who goes on National tv and tells vivid lies.. Gets caught up in the lies and then one week later goes on national tv again— and makes a joke about it………..

(to be said in a whiny voice) "CNN never posts anti Barack comments! BOO HOO NOT FAIR!" Do you people take the time to even READ the other comments??? And you have thought that just maybe there are more Obama supporters out there to post comments? His individual campaign contribution numbers are astronomical compared to her dough which is culled mainly from big businesses. And btw, I have "posted" many times which never saw the light of day. Wow. You Obamabots….scratch that, Obama NUTS are vicious and hateful in you're Hilary commentary. Hilary makes one error and you globalize it into something more than it has to be. Interestingly, you are so ridiculously forgiving of all of Obama's short comings. And there are quite a few. Obama can't directly address difficulty issues. If he wins he will just be a front man not truly running the show. There is plenty evidence of that right now. The news media is afraid to ask him tough questions or point out is obvious short comings out of fear of being labeled a racist. Is that what you want…a President that you have triple think everthing you want to say or ask, just to be politically correct!?! Your talk is cheap and baseless just like Obama's.

Joan   April 4th, 2008 11:11 am ET

Americans will never put two blatant liars back in the White House after they were already there for 8 years!

Tim from PA   April 4th, 2008 11:10 am ET

Brenda Elizabeth Waters   April 4th, 2008 11:10 am ET

It would be rather a different story had Senator Obama 'mispoke' in the same manner. I think running for the post of Commander-in-Chief behoves one to act appropriately, especially when relating to such serious claims of a possible life-threatening nature. There is the right time for the jovial - like a'phone call at 3am'!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Kevin   April 4th, 2008 11:09 am ET

I'm glad she thinks being shot at it is funny. That should help her win the troops' votes.

INSULTED   April 4th, 2008 11:09 am ET

I am truly upset now! How dare Senator Clinton insult American voters and our troops by making a joke out of her "misspeak" and sniper fire. I understand that she was on the Jay Leno show, but let him make the jokes. Rather than apologizing for a outright lie Senator Clinton decides to make a joke it. HORRIBLE MISTAKE and I hope others understand how insulting that was.

Cindy   April 4th, 2008 11:08 am ET

I can't belive she really thinks that poking fun at the fact that she lied about snipers when she visited bosnia is acceptable.

As many people state —yes we know Hillary but not Obama, is that a good reason to vote for her? She can't manage her campaign, she can't pay her bills, she's playing the race card, very slyly by telling Richardson, as a way to prevent him from voting for Obama, that Obama cannot win, she continues to move the target for herself in this race!!!!

Why would any american want such a person for President?

Mike, Kalamazoo, MI   April 4th, 2008 11:07 am ET

Page right out of the Bush playbook. It's just like him joking about not finding WMD's. Making jokes does not make up for lying to the public!

Not to mention, she said she was "sleep deprived" — that's why she lied. Sounds like she isn't even up to answering the phone at 3 a.m.

CNN, singlehandldly gave Obama Millions of dollars of free advertisment, day after day, night after night, and I don't think you think we even noticed it. You are encouraging Racial hatred because you supported one candidate to detriment of the other. You found a way to turn every statement Hillary said, into something negative, now you seem to be trying to make amends, after the damage is done. I am disgusted with you as "the most distrusted name in news".
Your advertisers will surely hear about this. Fay

Warren of Lincoln   April 4th, 2008 11:07 am ET

I don't think a President or Presidential candidate should EVER joke about something so REAL as sniper fire, especially while our soldiers are pinned down in exactly that type of fighting. To say nothing of the fact that a joke doesn't wipe away a bold faced lie. How pathetic that part of the Clinton strategy is that when the numbers are down you put Hillary on a comedy show and make-fun. That's it? That's it?

Ed K.   April 4th, 2008 11:07 am ET

The Obama democrats are mostly the new democratic voters with a few older democrats jumping on the bandwagon hoping to gain some political favors. These Obama supporters have bought into the republican bashing of the Clintons. No good democrat that lived during the 90″s would have a negative word for Hillary. Obama supporters talk trash and make false statements on the blogs and you can tell they are misinformed, stupid or just a hater. These people need to wake up and realize, Obama can not win the general election. The Reverend Wright mess has hurt Obama more then the media lets on and it will kill him in the Fall. If the democrats nominate Obama we will have 4 more years of republican rule. It's a shame these people can't see through their hate and realize Hillary Clinton is a good person who will help us get back our country.

Lea   April 4th, 2008 11:07 am ET

Obamabots never miss an opportunity to insult hillary clinton like a 5th grader would. Grow up! Your candidate lied too! More than once! I for one do not want someone in office who is either willing to lie to get what they want (Bush and his WMD's) or has problems remembering the facts. The last thing we need is an international incident because Hillary remembered someone shooting at her.

OBAMA'08: "A change from the lies of the Clintons"

KLS79   April 4th, 2008 11:05 am ET

I can't believe how Obama supporters continue to blast Hillary as a liar, yet excuse the lies from Obama's mouth. I'm sure if Obama misspoke you'd have all kinds of reasons for it.

Hillary is too smart of a politician to knowingly repeat a lie that is easily verified. The context of that flight has already been given, but OBS don't want to hear it. They were put on a specific plane because it was capable of evasive manuvers, they were told there were unsecured areas where sniper fire was possible (the Bosnian president has verified that), they were put in flak jackets, and moved to a more secure part of the aircraft. They were told the welcoming ceremony might have to be cancelled. All these years later, that's what stuck in her head. I'm sure every single one of you has misremembered something in your life, but you are so eager to hate Hillary that you can't allow her to have the same lapse you've had. It's you haters that are driving Hillary supporters away from Obama if he gets the nomination.

liar liar, pants on fire   April 4th, 2008 11:04 am ET

Mythomania is a condition involving compulsive lying by Hillary with no obvious motivation.Hillary believes her lies to be truth, and may have to create elaborate myths to reconcile them with other facts.A pathological liar (Hillary) is someone who often embellishes his or her stories in a way that she believes will impress people. It may be that a pathological liar (Hillary) is different from a normal liar in that a pathological liar believes the lie she is telling to be true—at least in public—and is "playing" the role. She sometimes is seen to have a serious mental problem that needs to be rectified. It could also be that pathological liars know precisely what they are doing.

Hillary even finds humor in her compulsive lying as she laugh's right the face of everyone she has lied to.

Marc in DeKalb, IL   April 4th, 2008 11:04 am ET

"I was thinking about it, because obviously I've been so privileged to represent our country in, gosh, more than 80 other countries, lots of war zones and all the rest of it — I wrote about this in my book and obviously I just had a lapse."

… Soooo what you are saying is that there was *SOME OTHER* country that you did a corkscrew landing in and ran under sniper fire to safety?

… you remembered the event with jarring detail, I figure if there was ANOTHER country in which you were in that this occurred… you would probably want to bring that up.

A lapse and misrecalling information is different than a BLATANT LIE… and your story was a lie. Trying to brush over it won't change anything. You can't "lapse" and come up with a story that occured.

A lapse is claiming you had a hamburger one night for dinner, but you actually had pizza… but you remembered wrong because you had a hamburger two nights before and your memory was fuzzy.

Recalling an entire scenario in detail that did not happen at any point in your First Ladyship… is not a lapse. It is a lie.

Note the difference:

Barack has an issue arise that calls questions to the credibility of his campaign and message and he delivers a brilliant speech on a controversial issue that everyone is too afraid to talk about.

Hillary has a similar issue arise questioning the credibility of her campaign and she tells us that it's not a big deal and tries to get a cheap laugh out of it.

One is presidential, the other is just weak.

Only one word to describe Hillary "DESPICABLE"

Dave   April 4th, 2008 11:03 am ET

How was the Bosnia matter a "gaffe." Hillary put a lot of effort into maintaining that story even after her version was questioned. Including holding a press conference with supporting testimony from a general. This was not a slip of the toungue but a wierd insistence on a lie long after it was clear that it was a lie. See the Bush administration for why this is a bad thing.

Hillary is a known liar. Bill lied to the country & was impeached. Why would anyone waste their vote on this family?

FORMER Billary Bot   April 4th, 2008 11:03 am ET

She is actually LAUGHING OFF one of her biggest humiliateing moments? She is making light of getting caught BOLDLY Lieing to the American People MULTIPLE times? She thinks this whole " running the US" thing is a JOKE??

Jenny, Rio Vista, CA   April 4th, 2008 11:03 am ET

This is to all the Hilary supporters that are defending her here. Please write back why you think it is acceptable for a president to get caught in a boldface lie that you have told many times and then make jokes about it? Why you think it's OK for her campaign manager to make deals with the Columbians? Please explain. Thanks

Hillary said she visited around 80 country's while she was first lady, did she encounter any sniper attack in any of those visit? because if she does it will be easy to understand the gaffe about Bosnia but if she never experience such a serious situation before and those claims arise while she was making her case how ready and tasted she is to be commander in chief then it will be reasonable to conclude that she was misleading us.

Even funner than Clinton herself are some her supporters' posts. Must be the same kind of people who find September 11th a comical day…or 4000 dead soldiers in Iraq a real laugh riot. Disgusting…but go Hillary, we love you anyway even though you're a lying, powerhungry clown.

CLINTON'S DOOM IS CALLING!   April 4th, 2008 11:02 am ET

Is American's being shot by snipers funny. I don't think so, she definitely is going to offend some military families. I'm glad Hillary thinks Sniper Fire is a joke.

Tammy   April 4th, 2008 11:02 am ET

I wouldn't be trying to laugh a matter like this off. It's a slap in the face to every veteran or newsman/woman who have actually been in harms way, dodging bullets. Shame on you Hilliary.

Betty   April 4th, 2008 11:02 am ET

Well, that lapse sure was a whopper! Hope "Billary" isn't the one that anawers that 3 am call because her types of lapses could be devastating!
As far as the daughter….She decided to campaign for the Billary, so either take the heat or get out of the kitchen….
I do not want Bill Clinton in the White House for a day let alone 4 years! He lied to the US about Monica and he should have been impeached then!

PA Voter   April 4th, 2008 11:02 am ET

Oh, so making fun of your lies somehow nullifies them…

Can't wait to see those tax returns and earmarks records. She'll have to start her own talk show to joke those away (if indeed they are ever released).

To SUSAN MO: I would rather have starstruck than unabashedly power hungry. Win at all costs! Even if you destroy the Democratic party in the process….that's the Clinton way!

Basanti   April 4th, 2008 11:02 am ET

Go HILLARY!!!! barck will only divide country and at global level know nothing about anything. world leaders are not going to say ok lets have a good speech! they want to deal with someone who carries familiarity. as for the gaffe. YES, when someone is told 20 times about what all could go wrong—time lapse, may fudge a few things? big deal? its not like that gaffe led to war or for that matter reflected deepseeded racial bias! get the drift. HIlLARY STAY AND WIN!!

Paul, in Iowa   April 4th, 2008 11:02 am ET

Just shrug it off as a Joke. OK, now I forgot all about your Lie.

Quote: “I've been so privileged to represent our country in, gosh, more than 80 other countries, lots of war zones and all the rest of it — I wrote about this in my book and obviously I just had a lapse."

I’m sure it’s been 80 other countries and lots of war zones. Sure we will all just take your word on it Hillary! How can we trust you on this or did you just have a lapse?

What if you had a lapse at your 3am phone call? Did you have a lapse on your vote for going to war? Lapse about bullets flying over your head? Don’t take us for fools!

Hillary, you can’t even control Bill, how can we trust you to be in charge and control of this great Nation?

Obama all the way!!!

Bosnian Sniper   April 4th, 2008 11:02 am ET

"I just had a lapse". Three different lapses in three different speeches and press conferences.

I don't think this should be made into a federal case either, but I am getting really tired of the "I just mis-spoke" excuse. She did it deliberately at a time when she was trying to burnish her national security and foreign policy experience. She lied and continued to lie after Sinbad of all people called her out. It was only when video surfaced that she said, oops - I mis-spoke.

If she'd stop acting like she were being victimized when she is inf act being accurately caught in a lie, I think many people would be much more willing to see this as a minor issue.

Mary   April 4th, 2008 11:02 am ET

There is nothing funny about the lies she told. I wonder what affect will her lies have on the United States and Bosnia. Well this let us know what she would be doing in the White House at 3a.m.

Hillary '08!   April 4th, 2008 11:02 am ET

Hillary, Just keep pressing forward. You have lots of support and Americans behind you!

Joanne   April 4th, 2008 11:01 am ET

Hillary is a liar. Where are the tax records? Another lie

John   April 4th, 2008 11:01 am ET
