Clinton releases tax returns

Clinton had been under mounting pressure to release her tax records before the Pennsylvania primary.
Clinton had been under mounting pressure to release her tax records before the Pennsylvania primary.

(CNN) - Hillary Clinton released her tax returns for the years 2000 to 2006 late Friday afternoon, ending weeks of speculation over her delay in making them public.

“The Clintons have now made public thirty years of tax returns, a record matched by few people in public service,” spokesman Jay Carson said in a statement. “None of Hillary Clinton's presidential opponents have revealed anything close to this amount of personal financial information.”

The campaign said the records showed Bill and Hillary Clinton had paid more than $33.7 million in federal taxes on a joint income of $109 million and donated $10.2 million to charities over the past eight years.

The New York senator had initially said that she would not release them unless she was the Democratic nominee. But at a debate shortly before the March 4 primaries, she said she would consider releasing them "even earlier," though she did not name a precise date.

"I will certainly work toward releasing them, and we will get that done and in the public domain," said Clinton.

Later, she pledged to release the documents by this year's April 15 tax filing deadline. But ten days ago, following Obama's decision to release his tax returns of this decade, and attacks from his campaign over Clinton's delay in making her own public, she announced that she would release the returns within the week.

The Obama campaign's criticism centered on Clinton's decision to lend her campaign $5 million earlier this year, along with former President Bill Clinton's $20 million payout from supermarket holding company Yucaipa.

In conference calls with reporters, Clinton campaign spokesman Howard Wolfson accused the Obama campaign of unfounded negative attacks over the delay, noting that there were "20 years of Clinton tax returns in the public record."

The tax returns are the second of three batches of documents Clinton has come under pressure to release. Her scheduling records that date to her time as First Lady were released late last month. The list of major donors to the Clinton Presidential Library has yet to be released.

PERSONALLY I THINK IT SAYS A LOT THAT THESE TWO PEOPLE WHO COULD EASILY BE RELAXING AND ENJOYING THEIR TIME HAVE CHOSEN INSTEAD TO WORK FOR THE PEOPLE OF AMERICA.
HE DIDN'T NEED TO GO TO NEW ORLEANS LAST MONTH AND DIG DIRT FOR STARTING HOMES AFTER KATRINA....
THAT SAYS MORE TO ME THAN ANYTHING.

Hillary doesn't have to be on the road every single day...
    she chooses to be.

I am dead serious when I say this....
she is the best qualified candidate for this JOB.
And if you would take the time to research, you could see that for yourselves.

GO HILLARY!!!!!!!!!! SHE IS BY FAR THE MOST QUALIFIED CANDIDATE...JUST WATCH HER ON "MAD MONEY" AND
SHE WILL BLOW YOU AWAY......TIME TO GET REAL EVERYONE!
THIS IS SERIOUS – IT IS NOT A GAME.

Everytime I think that just maybe I'd be able to support Obama if he gets the nomination, I read the vile hatred that his supporters spew forth about the entire Clinton family., I realize that no matter what, I can't vote for Obama. Maybe I'l stay home, vote Green or Republican, I don't know. But birds of a feather, flock together, and I want no part of a party that has such hatred in it. Hillary has had over 14 million people vote for her. Why would you want to alienate so many dems that you will need in Nov.? You've united me out of the party.

Hillary released her tax returns but did'nt release her 2007 return as she promised. The 2007 tax return is the one that people were more concerned with, to find where their donations from overseas came from.

I don't think its anybody's business what kind of money the Clintons made. The only thing that should have been released was that she had filed her tax returns. Why should everybody know what their income is and what they have spent. I don't like america's democracy at all. It does invade peoples privavcy. I don't care if you are running for public office...the only things that should have been released is that she had filed her returns. That's all thats needed to ne known.

$109 million is 8 years! Seriously, nobody can make that kind of money from speaking engagements and book deals alone.

Deb, IN – maybe that is why you don't have that kind of money. So I guess Bush really cares about the common person as well. He is filthy rich too.

It's pretty easy to give 10% of your income when your making $100's of millions of dollars!!

Seriously, think about that folks. The POTUS makes a couple of hundred thousand dollars. A Senator makes somewhere around $150K.

HOW DID THEY MAKE $109 MILLION DOLLARS IN 8 YEARS, WHILE SHE WAS A SENATOR!!!!!!!!! THAT SEAMS LIKE A LOT OF SPEAKING FEES!!!

    OK, Next up:
"...if I were Hillary, I would've fire Penn for acting waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay out of line." This wasn't done by a friend of a friend. This is someone on her campaign. Why doesn't she just wise up and concede the Democrat nomination already? but noooooo, she has to keep going and going until the Democratic party's name is drug through the mud to lose the November election.
When she does lose the nomination, she'll just be pouting mad – just keep an eye out for her when close-ups are shown when she's back in the Senate. Cheaters never prosper. Go home Clintons, go home.

Bozo's, there is still her 2007 taxes. They don't want to show that and also, there donors list. Why won't they show that. Obama did and you guys wanted to jump on him about Rezco. Look at the bigger picture. Back-door deals with Colombia, and lying making it look like Obama called Canada when it was actually Hillary who called. Business dealings in Canada and Mexico. Over 110 million dollars and only paid 37 million. Sounds like the Bush tax cuts to me. Obama only made 2 million in 7 years. Explain Bozo's.

Now what we be great if Barry were to give half of the $40 million he raised last month to charity and that way both he and Hillary would have $20 million each – a fair playing field for the rest of the primaries.

However, Barry isn't much of a giver or he would have tithe to his church to carry on the work of liberating the Chicago poor!

Hillary Clinton, "Champion of the Poor and Downtrodden."

Bet those Ohio voters are feelin' real smart right now.

Shocked to see this pathological woman laughing on national television last night about an outright lie to the American people.

She has no shame whatsoever, and I can only imagine what she will do next.

The report from Clinton's camp states their income is 109,175,175. Then it attempts to break it down, but what they've listed only adds up to $94,162,063. So about 15 million of income is unaccounted. That is a huge chunk of change. If they truly want to be honest, they need to fully disclose how they made that other 15 million. Why the secrecy?

Thank you Hillary for donated 10% of your income. It showed thaty you really care about people.

Wait a minute–People are NOT going to vote for Hillary because she and Bill made lots of money? They made money AFTER being in national eye for 8 years–books, speaking engangements etc. If Obama becomes president he will become as rich or even richer for doing the same types of things. It's fine if you have a substantial reason for not liking Hillary but this fuss over her tax returns is silly. Of course she is wealthy–but she and Bill did not start out that way–they started with little money together in Arkansas. Dislike the Clintons if you will but have a good reason.

I don't think any president should be in poverty. Ulysses Grant had to write a book just before he died so that he could leave something to his family.

I also don't think the American people should have to suffer over deals that he made while president in order to line his pockets.

The problem is when you don't have to worry about gas prices, or home prices–you are somewhat removed from everyday people. I think Obama has a real sense of the people. Much more than Hillary. She hasn't had to worry about the cost of living for awhile.

Truth is Clinton is trying to be Blue Collar meanwhile she's loaded.

She just didn't want anyone to use it against her.

But I don't see why she was so secretive about it? Stupid, she breeds distrust for no reason.

Of course she released more than necessary...so as to offset the fact that she was extremely late in releasing them. DUH! I'm not gonna get nasty..but really, all the crazed Hillary supporters should reel in their tongues for a bit. We're all in the same party. Obviously I'm for Obama, but if Hilary gets the nomination, I will vote for her. As shady as her tactics have been..she's still far better than anything McCain has to offer (policy-wise). Let's keep some perspective here people!

    Spin, spin, spin.

Now that Penn has put Clinton in the spotlight, her campaign is up to its old tricks. By releasing her taxes, they are trying to shift the public's attention from the mess her campaign is in.

The media should call Clinton to comments she made when the Canadians tried to help her by smearing Obama. At the time she said something about having serious issues had this happened within her campaign.

Releasing her tax returns on the same day, Penn, one of her cronies showed the American people once again how out of control and disconnected her political team is from her and her ideas and ideals, will not pull wool over our eyes. We know what the Clintons are about, and how they are masters of spin.

Any other president would have been impeached. Bill dodged the bullet only because of his professional spinners.

Enough is enough. Shame on you, Hillary Clinton.

No surprise that they have made so much money. However, since they left the WHITEHOUSE in the red, one has to wonder how they have upped their income so much in such a short time. Can you say illegal dealings?

Okay...Hillary's taxes are out for everyone to see.....Obama supporters should be happy....but they won't be ....nothing makes them happy :)

So now it's time for Obama to release the information he's been hiding:

Judicial Watch, a government transparency and litigation group that's received significant amounts of funding from conservatives, has questioned Obama's own willingness to pull back the curtain on his own records.

"It appears that Obama never kept records of his time in the Illinois state legislature, or he discarded them," wrote Judicial Watch president Tom Fitton in a recent newsletter. "Either way, he clearly intended to leave no paper trail."

Fitton said that his group has been seeking Obama's records from his time as state senator between 1996 and 2004, but so far it's come up empty.
