Clinton releases tax returns

Clinton had been under mounting pressure to release her tax records before the Pennsylvania primary.
Clinton had been under mounting pressure to release her tax records before the Pennsylvania primary.

(CNN) - Hillary Clinton released her tax returns for the years 2000 to 2006 late Friday afternoon, ending weeks of speculation over her delay in making them public.

“The Clintons have now made public thirty years of tax returns, a record matched by few people in public service,” spokesman Jay Carson said in a statement. “None of Hillary Clinton's presidential opponents have revealed anything close to this amount of personal financial information.”

The campaign said the records showed Bill and Hillary Clinton had paid more than $33.7 million in federal taxes on a joint income of $109 million and donated $10.2 million to charities over the past eight years.

The New York senator had initially said that she would not release them unless she was the Democratic nominee. But at a debate shortly before the March 4 primaries, she said she would consider releasing them "even earlier," though she did not name a precise date.

"I will certainly work toward releasing them, and we will get that done and in the public domain," said Clinton.

Later, she pledged to release the documents by this year's April 15 tax filing deadline. But ten days ago, following Obama's decision to release his tax returns of this decade, and attacks from his campaign over Clinton's delay in making her own public, she announced that she would release the returns within the week.

The Obama campaign's criticism centered on Clinton's decision to lend her campaign $5 million earlier this year, along with former President Bill Clinton's $20 million payout from supermarket holding company Yucaipa.

In conference calls with reporters, Clinton campaign spokesman Howard Wolfson accused the Obama campaign of unfounded negative attacks over the delay, noting that there were "20 years of Clinton tax returns in the public record."

The tax returns are the second of three batches of documents Clinton has come under pressure to release. Her scheduling records that date to her time as First Lady were released late last month. The list of major donors to the Clinton Presidential Library has yet to be released.

How many of you donate 10% of your income to charities? Name the politicians who have disclosed their finances to this extent? very, very, few and certainly NOT Obama or McCain. Their money came from books and Bill Clinton's speaking engagements - read the facts before you start freaking out.

Also, how many of you would still be putting up with slander and hatred being directed at you just to help the little people when you had made over 110 million dollars and had a husband who could generate that kind of income? Sadly, very few.

Being willing to allow to see her and them more clearly. They are not evil. She's pretty amazing actually. I admire her.

All of you Clinton supporters feeling all high and mighty...

This was released on a Friday afternoon, after word came out of her own campaign manager screwing up (again), LONG after she SHOULD have released them... I could go on but I have already made my point.

Sorry kiddos, Clinton has caused her own credibility loss and has cost herself the nomination.

guys, 109 million in 6 years is 18 million between them, so they each got 9 million a year. Well, if you want to know where the money came from, let me help break it down. They wrote three books between them, that is good for quite a few million dollars. Hillary has her salary in the senate, I know it is not a lot, but it is there. Finally, how much money do you think they get paid for doing speaking gigs? Bill Clinton goes around and speaks in places almost every week since he has left office, do you not think he is paid a ton of money for every speaking gig? Hillary also speaks a lot, and she gets paid every time for it. People, if you expected the salary to be low, you are crazy, of course they are rich, just like every former president. And don't knock Clinton's 10 percent until you can say what Obama gave to charity. Plus, does Obama have a global initiative like Clinton? No. You are crazy if you do not think the Clintons have a strong record of public service.

Obamabots are sick. Constantly always attacking Hilliary and missing the point entirely.

    1. Obama has only release part of his tax return, he has not release his tax return when he was in the "State"(not US) Senate.

    2. Hilliary and Bill donated more to charity than most people, including those who made less and MORE than them.

    3. Just because you make alot of money doesn't mean you're not a blue collar worker. I come from a family of hard working self-made business owners, on top of owning the business, we actually do the grind work too. Not all blue collar workers are POOR!

    4. Blooomsberg is mayor of New York because he's greedy for more money or power. After making so much money, sometime you want to thank your country by being a public servant for your country.

It's sad to see the campaign turn itself to this. This cult following for Obama has disgusted me. It's HIliary or McCain for me.

You know, most of you Obama people are the ones causing the division in this party. I have never seen such a mean spirited group of people anywhere. Maybe it is because you are too young to know any better and have no respect for anyone. There is more known about the Clinton's than almost anyone on this planet and STILL you're not happy. I think the most telling thing showing on these returns is the GENEROSITY of the Clinton's towards helping to make this country better. 10% of their income donated to charity vs 1% for the Obama's. And if you were to open your eyes and actually READ, you would see where the money came from. Now, how about the COMPLETE story on Rezko and the "boneheaded" house deal and political contributions?

It is almost fun the read the comments of the obamaites. They get so worked up they can't even type coherently. Missed words, mispelled words. Sentences that don't make any sense at all. They are just quivering to try to put the Clintons down, and in so doing making fools of themselves. I will miss reading the blogs when Hillary is in the Whitehouse. Of course then the crying will be even more amusing.

I didn't know Obamanatics knew any other english words besides "HOPE. CHANGE. YES WE CAN." !!!!

Apparently when they finally get what they want, the floodgates open and they find other words to describe the fact that they STILL aren't satisfied! Leave it to the Crybaby Obama camp to continue to complain.

And by the way, I am beyond sick and tired of CNN's pro-Obama coverage. It's truly sickening.

Thanks Hillary for pulling back the veil on your finances. On my current income it will take me several generations to make 1/10th of your income. Frankly, I don't think you deserve my contribution anymore. Spend some of your money. ....and this Mark Penn issue, tell me it isn't true. I hate to believe I've rooted for a hypocrite.

Can you people do math? $109 million over 8 yrs. That's 13.6 million a year. That is nothing for a couple of such high profile. We are talking about a past head of the states. The riches state in the world! Plus, 10 million dollars to charity. That's about 10 percent of gross incomes. I don't see any of you, myself included, giving that much a year. I will do the math again for those that can't count. If you make $80,000 a year, that is $8,000 a year.

I have to say I am disgusted at the remarks being made on this blog obama supporters need to grow up

obama whines for her to release her tax returns – she does and the obama supporters whine that she released the on a Friday so what there are 30 years of tax returns made available by the clintons – obama released 6 years worth.

They faked them – idiots are you accusing the IRS of conspiring with them?

Charitable Donations – As well as giving 10% of their own income, the Clinton global Initiative is helping thousands of people around the world – providing healthcare, education and fighting poverty. Bill Clintons book giving has also opened the eyes of people around the world providing publicity for numerous charities that most people hadn't heard about – once again helpin thousands more people in the US and around the world.

The Clintons are helping poor people and blue collar workers everyday – what has Obama done apart from Whine... donating onkly 1% of income to charity – i guess those piano lessons, dance lessons and summer camps his daughters attend must be really expensive.

Why aren't people demanding to see Obamas papers from the Illinois senate – oh i forgot he said he lost them, instead of denegrating the clintons open your eyes and see what good they have been doing.

If Obama does get the nomination this pathetic hatred that the Obama supporters has is going to backfire on him in November as the Clinton supporters have seen their candidate treated with distain and themselves the target of abuse on these blogs – do you think that they will vote for Obama if he is the nominee?

The US needs a strong President and Hillary is the best candidate.
