It is sand and very disrespectful that Obama likes to compare himself to Dr. Martin Luther King.
I have read and watched most of the Dr. King’s speeches that’s been published.
And believe me Obama is NO Martin Luther King.
When Obama talks there is always a bitterness that you can’t ignore but when Dr. King spoke was all about tolerance, love and peace.
Martin Luther King carried a huge movement on his shoulders, What has Obama ever done and accomplished?
Comparing Obama to Dr. Kind is a huge disgrace to the memories and achievements of a Great man.

This message is for Senator Obama,

You can fix the SOCIAL SECURITY and the MEDICARE mess in a very simple way.

Deduct $2.00 dollard forSSA, and $1.25 for from all SDI from people who make over $80.000 thousand per. year and put that money in these ACCOUNT for two years as a test run to see how much money it pull/in and see if it's successful for that two years.

That is just my proposal to you.

Let's hope senator Clinton don't steal this Idea brfore you look it over.

Ozz, LA, CA...

Is campaigning so important, you cannot attend a service? That;s the hypocrisy. Everyone else manages to free up time and the African American candidate who made what we later learned to be false claims considered MLK to be a great influence and praises the Civil Rights Leader constantly. Shame on you Obama!

I had a chance to watch the complete town hall meeting and he did an excellent job of answering questions.
He related to the serious problems we have to deal with. Iraq in how it has used our treasure up that we need to fight the war on terror and to invest in jobs, roads, bridges, schools, education, and health care. He told of personal responsibity in doing our part in doing the best we can with our families, and communities, in conjunction with the government. The problems won't be solved if all aspects aren't working together.

He needs to do more town hall meetings because it shows his ability to relate to the big picture of how everything is tied together with Iraq.

Barak reminds so many of us of great leaders of the past like Dr. King, and Robert and Jack Kennedy. By evoking their memories he demonstrates knowledge of their roles and carries the torch for those of us who still want to see Dr. King’s dream realized.

People are really funny. Just because Obama didn't show up in Memphis, he's now supposed to be somehow not credible about his positions on race. We are supposed to forget about everything else he's done in the past.

I'm African American and I can care less if Obama isn't in Memphis to commenurate MLK's death because he does so much more for the plight of African Americans. At the end of the day, ACTIONS speak louder than mere symbolic appearances (JOHN MCCAIN)!!

I don't think it is necessary for him to be there to honor Dr. King's memory and for anyone to say anything less is just. It could also be said that the only reason Senators Clinton and McCain went there to court the black vote. Senator McCain even admitted in his speech that he did not support the Martin Luther King holiday.

I do not get some of the comments on this blog. You are saying since Senator Obama is not in Memphis, he is not commemorating Dr King's death. Using that logic, since I'm not in Memphis at this time, I'm not commemorating his death either. I think I am doing more to recognize this day than most of you all. Senator Obama is giving a tribute to Dr. King from where he is and he will definitely express those sentiments gracefully. Do not let something like this influence you negatively. Let us remember this day, WHERE WE ARE, and use it to apply the principles Dr. King espoused not hating on someone because they are not where YOU want them be.

no matter what obama does, he will be critizied........staying out of memphis was a smart thing, as the focus should be on MLK......not on hilary giving a speech about how she went to see him, a 14 yr old white girl, and he shook her hand, and she was so inspired, talk about show, at least mccain was a little more plausible, he voted against the MLK holiday in arizona, and he did admit it......but it is not about them, it should be about the change happening in the US, that still seemsto be on hold, about race, equality, schools, good jobs for all, fair wages, health care (affordable for all), housing (not ghetto)...... i was a young adult during the time of MLK and JFK, and did see all of the racism, and was inspired by the movement back then, and still am , i have grandchildren that are 1/2 black and 1/2 hispanic, and talk about discrimination, so it is so refreshing to see a young man like barack, commiting to change, and hopfully succeding.....i am a 66 yr. old hispanic woman-a reigistered nurse in the ER, still working and hoping to see better things happening for everyone, and the issue of color, race and religion a thing of the past...i would like to see before i die, that we measure a person by his or her ideals, hopes, and aspiring to do better for as many as possible, but we the people, have got to get engaged in the idea and move forward to make it happen.....so barack, you are my choice, go give them hell !!!!!!! dottie from washington state

MLK paved the way for Obama to be a serious candidate for president.

Obama's response is to forget MLK and campaign.

All well Hillary was there to honor King as usual.

We Highly Respected MLK, but Obama likes being in the 'spot light' way too much. We were first for him, but started seeing how 'star struck' he is, and that changed all our family over to CLINTON. Obama will say or do anything to be in the news.

ATTN: Mike

Get a grip on reality! Republicans can not stand the fact that JFK was not only one of the greatest presidents this country has ever had but apparently this is one Republican who can not read either! as he like to preach at others. Your lies and distortions of the truth are the same hate and fear your party thrives on the only way you are able to get votes truly sad. I see the much bigger picture her though. The republican and the right wing extremists are losses there grip on the nation because they apparently did not realize they were going to grow old and have no one stupid enough to believe there fear and lies. They see them for what they really are 62 year old white male for Obama.

Some of these people HARPING on Obama not being in memphis as clinton and mccain please let it go MLK's kids weren't even in memphis they were in atlanta laying wreath's at the crypts of their mother and father will you criticize them for not being in memphis?? What difference would it have made had he been there "NO DIFFERENCE AT ALL" you just do this because you can't find nothing concrete on this man so you throw anything you can at him but the thing most of you are not seeing is it doesn't STICK like someone mention Obama had the worst month in march and still manage to attrack over 218,000 new supports and bringing in $40million. You need to realize YES WE CAN and YES WE WILL..

What is wrong with you people, each presidential candidate took a moment out of this historical day to talk about MLK's dream and how much more work needs to be done.

MLK Jr. would be turning over in his grave if he read some of this crap some of you were writing, because Obama didn't come to Memphis or McCain originally didn't want a MLK holiday or Clinton spent a lot of time talking about herself during her speech. The bottom line today is not about them but how they can move his dream forward.

I believe Senator Clinton and Senator Obama are our best chance at moving MLK Jr.'s dream forward, although I think Senator McCain is a good guy.

Obama was in Indiana the same way Bobby Kennedy was in Indiana on that fateful day 40 years ago. It's not showing any disrespect. He is campaigning for the highest office we have and he is running against three Clinton's (Hillary, Bill Chelsea). This man is only one person and when you have to cover the same amount of ground as these three losers do, then you do what needs to be done.
Indiana this morning and Montana this evening.

Obama '08!!! You've got my vote from PA.

Hillary is real. She's not making pretty speeches today about MLK, but in MLK's spirit making a commitment to fighting poverty through a poverty czar. Obama will say oh yeah, me too. People wake up.

Obama doesn't have to go to Memphis just because he's black. He can honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King from anywhere. He does it everyday. Only the McCain and Hillary supporters try to make his MLK speech in Indiana a bad thing!

People have become so fickle!!

If Obama went, he would have been ciritsized by Clinton's supporters, if he did not go, he will be critisized.

Im so over the Hillary supporters, they will use anything. First they say he is not black enough, then they say he is too racial, not that he is choosing to honor MLK in another state, they say he is not black enough again.....like you REALLY care about MLK, just another thing for clinton supporters to use against Obama....

ps: stop telling me to "wake-up" I am mroe awake than you!!!

OBAMA 08!!!

WE SUPPORT YOU AND YOUR DECISION TO HONOR MLK FROM INDIANA!!!

Obama is not a panderer. Never has been. McCain surely cannot say the same. We have to think for a second about what possibly would Dr. King himself want. He was a man of conviction, action, and work. Which is what Obama is doing. Not pandering about with people that you don't really care about. This campaign is too important.

Give Obama a break. If he were there and spoke he would be accused of comparing himself to King and courting the black vote. If he doesn't attend, he's accused of taking the black vote for granted. Its not a holiday. Its the day he died. Obama made a speech that Dr. King himself would be proud of. I think that says more that a PR trip to Memphis to honor his death.

Are some of you serious? Why does he have to be there? This is just plain silly. I'm not there...but I am still reflecting back on Dr. King today. I could easily say that Hillary and Clinton are there for votes and perception... but i'm not. It's not necessary. It would be silly to think Obama is not thinking of Dr. King today. Grow up people!

Wow I am amazed at the amount of hate on this blog!

Obama does not need to be in Memphis, he has lived his life, honoring MLKs' dream!

He is in Indiana, the exact place where Bobby Kennedy gave a historical speech on peace, following Kings death!

Hillary and McCain, are in Memphis, because it is politically correct!
Only to win votes!

Hillarys' speech, was aired on CNN, contrary to one of the bloggers!

Hillary speech, as well as many of her statements, focused on HERSELF. I intentionally listened, just to she how many times she mentions I, or ME, or MINE, MY, etc. Of course she didn't let me down!

If you don't' care about MLK, that is fine, but do you have to try and ruin this day for others? YOU CAN SIT AT HOME AND READ TO YOURSELF, WITHOUT POSTING HATE!

This is why Wright and others still make the comments they make, and this is why many African Americans, are NOT "REALLY" proud of this country!

And most of you STILL believe you are CHRISTIANS! SAD

SAD

I am SOOOO glad Obama decided not to be in Memphis with the politicizing Hillary Clinton sashaying through the black church for the black vote, and the politicizing John McCain there too just trying to get the black vote. Give me a break, neither one of these two care about Dr. Martin Luther King and they know it. But I'm really glad Obama was not there because I'm sick and tired of every time the media mentions Obama's name they feel they have to print Hillary;s too, as if they are joined at the hip or if they didn't say anything about Hillary she would be slighted which she would be. Ugghhh. Now, Obama is in Indiana still giving a speech about Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and there is no Hillary next to him! Thank God. You go BO! Go Obama! Obama '08 and Obama '12!!!!

Patriotism is the new code word for hate. All one really has to do is look at the brutality and barabarism inflicted on blacks in this country to know that any black person's sense of patriotism will be complicated and not without pause. Of course if you don't share that experience or had your grandparents treated worse than farm animals, the perhaps you would say enough already.

How dare people say they are so SICK of hearing about Dr. King!!

You anonoymous bloggers have not contributed one iota of fraction of what Dr. King has done for a nation, but your hatred for a whole race of people and your fear of allowing them to have a voice allows you to feel superior enough to claim that you have heard enough about Dr. King!!!!!!

How dare you!

As for Lincoln or whomever else you wish would recieve more attention......you obviously do not understand the impact his decisions made on this nation...or else you would not be so upset with hearing and celebrating the life of Dr. King....

Please allow this nation to celebrate its diversity and complex history and allow future generations to me more OPEN and LOVING than you will ever be capable of.

Sue April 4th, 2008 12:35 pm ET "HIllary Clinton has already done more for the black communities than Obama could think of doing."

Sue, it seems that you are the one who needs educating. YOU do your research and you will find that Obama was a CIVIL RIGHTS ATTORNEY for many years doing plenty for the "black communities" by defending them and making sure they have the same rights as every one else in very POOR parts of Chicago. I'm sorry, I was unaware Hil was doing the same thing while representing Wal Mart for all those years?

like i said before, if HRC gets the nomination i will still vote for her, even though i dont care for her health care reform. If he gets the nomination, atleast know that he is just the face for democrats and there will be a whole slew of advicers just like Bill had to help. Every president is only as good as those who advise him.

Obama's absence from the festivities in TN doesn't mean anything. He is where he should be - on the campaign trail. Clinton and McBush are there because they NEED the votes of African Americans. They need to address their concerns FOR NOW, but once they get back to the business of politics it will be same old crap as before.

MLK will forever be remembered as a part of our history. On MLK day, I wasn't going to Atlanta to attend any festivities and I'm sure most of you weren't either so get a grip!
