Penn resigns as chief strategist

Mark Penn has resigned his post as chief strategist to the Clinton campaign.
Mark Penn has resigned his post as chief strategist to the Clinton campaign.

(CNN) - Mark Penn has given up his role as chief strategist for the Clinton campaign, it was announced Sunday.

"After the events of the last few days, Mark Penn has asked to give up his role as Chief Strategist of the Clinton Campaign; Mark, and Penn, Schoen and Berland Associates, Inc. will continue to provide polling and advice to the campaign," Clinton Campaign Manager Maggie Williams said in a statement.

Sources in the Clinton campaign tell CNN's Mike Roselli Penn realized over the weekend that he needed to step aside, and that Clinton was disappointed that he had met with the Colombians.

I wonder why CNN never checks the people that are behind the Obama campaign. Oh yea I forgot CNN is trying to get Obama elected. I guess SNL will have to do another skit or have Lou Dobbs talk to them. Lou Dobbs is the only one that tells it like it is. Is the Obama campaign paying CNN? I know they have a direct line to you and tell you what to say. When 76% of the people say CNN shows favortism to Obama, you would think they would change the way they report the news. Everyday its Clintons, never Obama. When this is over Clinton should sue you for deflamation of character. You are supposed to tell the news not promote a candidate. I have never seen a news network do anything like you are doing in my life.

You people who are talking about the hypocricy of Clinton are ridiculous. Mark Penn is only part of the company, Penn, Schoen, and Berland that does Ms. Clinton's polling. The fact that the company is staying on the campaign to do polling for it isn't at all hypocritical of the Clinton campaign. People other than Mark Penn do the polling. The fact that she is continuing to use this company to do her polling makes since because the work that the polling company has done has nothing to do with what Mark Penn says.

You people need to learn how a political campaign works.

This is huge. I can't imagine a worse time for Hillary's campaign to be shook up to this degree. If a campaign is any indication of a cabinet or White House, then it is obvious that Obama is a superior executive. Why isn't this pointed out more often by the punditry?

Hillary Clinton LIES about her experience, snipers, healthcare stories and when she is caught telling a LIE, she LIES to cover the LIE. I hope Americans do not forget that if Hillary wins we have not just one LIAR in the white house but remember LYING Bill who is such a LIAR. Remember the American public was LIED to in order to get into the Iraqi war, so I do not believe we want another president that is a LIAR. CLINTONS are LIARS.

How could she runs the country if she couldn't even manage her own campaign team??

Seeing how she condemed/criticized Obama on the Canadian Trade issue....well...she totally deserved it now...

Hillary promised today that there would be more "twist and turns" in this campaign... so she dropped from her tear jerking routine a fairy tail story of the death of a pregnant woman and then got rid of her chief polster and strategist. Congratulations Hillary... you finally have gotten something right.

    This is called an implosion!

I suspect the story given here about the resignation is a cover for the real issue – the clinton campaign can no longer afford Penn's high salary, and he is not about to work for them out of, um, idealism.

As David Gergen tells of her private misgivings about NAFTA as public citizen and First Lady, she said nothing about it at the time; just as she could have said more about her misgivings about giving Bush a blank ticket to go to war. HRC today is a political aspirant who has morphed into centrist, hawkish, blue-collar Clinton – who will do whatever it takes to TRY to get the nomination. She's a blue collar working person???... Let's say, "a corporate suit." No more charades.

The Columbians just wast the same deal from Hillary that Bill gave to Mexico and Canada. Why is it that the Clintons and the foreign lobbiest are the only ones making out on these unfair deals? We saw what Happened to the Auto Industry, and the rest of the country that has suffered because of the Clinton trade deals. Get ready Pa. your next on their agenda.

Congratulations USA! You have a Gloria Macapagal Arroyo (a friend of the Clintons) in the making. And I will bet my soul that Clinton (like Gloria) will be President...and Communist China and USA will become best of friends.

I keep seeing people blaming CNN for all of the negative publicity Hillary gets. Why blame CNN when it is her and her campaing that are giving them the amunition. CNN is just relating the campaign news as it happens. They do it to and for both sides. Hillary's has just screwed up more, and been caught in more "mispokes" than Obamas.

HELLLLOOOO!!!! Will you people wake up!!! Penn is still working with the Clinton campaign. It doesn't matter that his title has changed, if he worked for a company and he "resigned" he wouldn't get a new title. He'd get sent packing with a building security guard to escort him from the grounds!!!

The Clintons think that people are stupid, and if anyone votes for Hillary, you just proved the Clintons right!

By law, all lobyist must register with the federal govt. They also must declare who they are lobying for.
For Hillary to be shocked that her chief stratigist was a lobyist for the Columbian govt. Is ludicrous.

For months I've been complaining about Mark Penn AND Howard Wolfson...particularily their connection to Burson-Marsteller...both high ranking executives of a firm we all should look into. This company is known for doing business with all kinds of questionable companies/people. None of this is news to the Clinton's. Besides the fact that Wolfson is still on board, so is
Penn as he is still doing polling work for Hillary. What kind of punishment is that? All Hillary cares about is perception and ground
control. Wake up America, Ms. Clinton seldom follows the rules. To lie about Bosnia, then lie about lying is SO her. Billary thinks they are above the rules. Senator Obama will not call her on her misdeeds unless he is attacted personally. He is trying his hardest to run a issue's based campaign. This is why the GOP is so desperate (Rush Limbaugh voter reg. caper) to run against Hillary in Nov. Her actions now and in the past are so numerous the GOP will have a field day if she is the Dem.candidate. Heaven help us. The GOP certainly won't.
The list of improper/and perhaps even illegal activities attributed to Bilarry will be a gift to the GOP and we will end up with 4 more years just like the last 7 &1/2. A draft is sure to follow a republican win. How else can they man the next 100 years? How old are your children? How old are your grandchildren? Think about it.

First the feary tale, in NH, the Jesse Jackson in NC, the as far as I know on Obama being of the Christian Faith, Then the Bosina glich, coming under sniper fire, later the pregnant lady not been given atention in an area hospital, now her chief campaign strategist. Is this the experience she can show for the 35 yrs. she claimes to have and cannot even keep her finances straight, her speeches and remaks truthful. I can imagine the termoil in the WH the first day if she ever get elected whick I strongly doubt. Get real Mss Rodham Clinton!
