(CNN) - Mark Penn has given up his role as chief strategist for the Clinton campaign, it was announced Sunday.
"After the events of the last few days, Mark Penn has asked to give up his role as Chief Strategist of the Clinton Campaign; Mark, and Penn, Schoen and Berland Associates, Inc. will continue to provide polling and advice to the campaign," Clinton Campaign Manager Maggie Williams said in a statement.
Sources in the Clinton campaign tell CNN's Mike Roselli Penn realized over the weekend that he needed to step aside, and that Clinton was disappointed that he had met with the Colombians.

No he did not realize this on his own. The Clintons pushed for him to resign he would have never done this on his own. It would have been more effective had they came out and said they fired him followed a press release stating so. This makes it look like he left on his own accord and that the Clintons gave him the option. Truth be know , Penn made the Clinton's look stupid and ill informed as to what their people were doing more than once and this was the final straw. Now it recovery time and of course time for statements of deparation as Hillary did when she stated she should be give points for the time it takes her to get ready each day and how hard she works. No one cares what you look like, or how your hair is done, what we care about is what comes out of your mouth. Too much double speak for me is all I can say.
Now that the Clintons have released their Tax returns and CNN,MSNBC,FOX and other media outlets have the release on their desks!,being scrutinised,dissected and analysed. Good for the media to do that.It is now time for Obama to log in his time details in Chicago for as long as it takes.It is also appropriate that Obama's joint Tax returns be exposed and treated the same way they have handled the the Clinton's return.This is a fair request.Let Mr.Tim Russet give us the details-I think is more objective compared to others.The sooner the better,for this split Nation(politically and others!)

So his company is staying on to advice the campaign but he is gone. In other words he will still work on the campaign but behind closed doors.
Clearly this has been one of the worst run campaigns. Clinton has lost a double digit lead overall to being behind nearly double digits. That's not running a good campaign. If that's evidence of being ready on day one, than we are in big trouble if she wins.

I find it interesting that Hillary never fires anyone who is not cutting the mustard in her campaign, they all resign. Sounds like someone is too attached to her inner circle to make executive decisions. Kinda reminds me of Bush that the tough decisions effecting their cronies are always made by the crony and not the crown.

Not a good way to run a campaign and presidency because that's what this is a precursor. Not good.

Notice how Obama has not attacked her with all the mishaps going on in her camp....bosnia, hosptial misinfo, and now Penn to name a few. He just speak about the issues. Think about that.

Did Obama "fire" his campaign aid for meeting with Canada re: the NAFTA issue?? No, didn't think so. More Obama people expecting the use of double standards again....
They did the right thing, letting Penn go. But it just shows how much Clinton's campaign has gotten out of control.
That they would have used someone as chief strategist who had other conflicting interests like this is simply beyond me. I cannot believe that Clinton did not know of those conflicting interests, and what poor judgement to allow that to continue. Or if she did not know, then shame on her for not doing the appropriate checking.
Either way, it shows still more dramatic evidence of her poor management of her campaign and her staff. And that speaks pretty poorly for her ability to manage other large, complex enterprises. A country's presidency, for example.
Come on CNN, the bigger question is why is Clinton allowing active lobbiests to run her campaign. This is unbelievable. How about you start doing your jobs and start asking her just what the hell she's doing.
