(CNN) - Barack Obama continues to chip away at Hillary Clinton's lead in the crucial state of Pennsylvania, a new Quinnipiac poll out Tuesday shows.
The New York senator's lead over Obama now stands at 6 points in the new poll, 50-44 percent. That compares to the 9 point lead Clinton held in a similar survey released 5 days ago, and an 11 point lead in a Quinnipiac survey late last month.
Specifically, Clinton has lost ground among white voters and men: She now holds an 18 point lead among whites, down from a 25 point gap in last week’s poll, and trails Obama by 4 points among males. Last week, the two drew equal support from men.
But Clinton continues to remain strong with her core voting bloc of older voters and white women, and likely Pennsylvania Democratic voters rate her more favorably than Obama - 71 percent for Clinton and 67 percent for Obama.
With the latest Quinnipiac poll, CNN's poll of several recent surveys show Clinton's lead over Obama in Pennsylvania now averages 6 percentage points. That gap is 1 point less than Monday’s poll of polls and 5 points less than a CNN poll of polls on Friday.
What's behind the shift?
"Obama has outspent Hillary Clinton three to one just on television advertising in Pennsylvania. He spent more than $3 million trying to get his name out and his message out to Hillary Clinton's $1 million," said Mark Preston, a CNN political editor.
The Illinois senator has also heavily benefited from the Service Employees International Union, which according to recently filed FEC reports has spent well over $700,000 on get-out-the-vote-efforts there.

To say that Obama has gained on Clinton because he has outspent her is completely disingenous. If money spent were the key wouldn't Mitt Romney be the Republican nominee?
Throw all the money you want in a campaign. At the end of the day, the American people have to like you and your message must reverbate with the voters.
Buying the presidency is not the way to go. That worries me. Obama spending so much, if it were a level $$$ field would he still be in the race. Bus h was the flashy newcomer in 2000 and look what happened there. Please do not vote like a high school election-based on who is "cool" and popular, but who is better suited for the job. Bosnia was a bad one, but she is feeling the heat from the "cool" dude. I still would rather her in there than another unknown. Maybe in four to eight years Obama can prove his worth and make a great president. We just cannot afford to roll the dice on another popular but inexperienced candidate again.

The Washington Post reported that the hospital story told to Senator Clinton by a Deputy Sheriff is true according to family memebers of the woman who died. Seems like Clinton was not lying after all – how come this doesn't get reported. MSNBC had it on Morning Joe. But you people in the media want everyone to believe the worst about her. For God's sake, her taxes were paid and you still can't stop talking about the returns. What is the problem with their joint return?

Even if she wins Pennsylvania, she is already defeated. Although Hillary would have you believe that she are not retreating - but in fact she is advancing in another direction. Hillary will be defeated not by Obama, but rather by herself. It would almost be impossible for Hillary to make a comback with "dignity."

My comment was more against the Clinton camp than against older white women.
I was commenting on how the Clintons always move the goalposts to make her campaign look stronger. "If this were the electoral college, Hillary would win. If we only counted the big states...If only white women were allowed to vote..."
Nothing against you and yours. I am proud you are able to see through the whole white v. black, man v. woman thing.
Nice to see the people of PA are starting to listen. Everyone knows that it is a "machine" state. All the big wigs of the machine with the exception of Sen Casey are backing Hillary because that's the way the machine works.

Hillary MIGHT still win Pennsylvania, but it won't be a blow out. And thats the end for her. Even just to make some sort of dent in delegates she would need to win by more then Ten points, and a blow out would be 12-15 points. This will not happen.
Obama will then win North Carolina by at least ten points and Finally Hillary will step aside so the healing can begin for the march to November. : )

I find it insane that Hillary supportors think that Obama supportors are rude. You rarely see one of us screaming in all caps or vowing to vote for McCain if our candidate doesn't get the nomination.
It seems to me that her supporters are just as nasty and spiteful as she is. Come on people... Look at what she believes in. Do you think it's anywhere near what McCain stands for? Do you think that is what she'd want her followers to do? Do you think she wants to destroy the Democrat's ability to get in the WH?
