Obama chipping away at Clinton's Pennsylvania lead

Obama is gaining ground in Pennsylvania, according to several polls.
Obama is gaining ground in Pennsylvania, according to several polls.

(CNN) - Barack Obama continues to chip away at Hillary Clinton's lead in the crucial state of Pennsylvania, a new Quinnipiac poll out Tuesday shows.

The New York senator's lead over Obama now stands at 6 points in the new poll, 50-44 percent. That compares to the 9 point lead Clinton held in a similar survey released 5 days ago, and an 11 point lead in a Quinnipiac survey late last month.

Specifically, Clinton has lost ground among white voters and men: She now holds an 18 point lead among whites, down from a 25 point gap in last week’s poll, and trails Obama by 4 points among males. Last week, the two drew equal support from men.

But Clinton continues to remain strong with her core voting bloc of older voters and white women, and likely Pennsylvania Democratic voters rate her more favorably than Obama - 71 percent for Clinton and 67 percent for Obama.

With the latest Quinnipiac poll, CNN's poll of several recent surveys show Clinton's lead over Obama in Pennsylvania now averages 6 percentage points. That gap is 1 point less than Monday’s poll of polls and 5 points less than a CNN poll of polls on Friday.

What's behind the shift?

"Obama has outspent Hillary Clinton three to one just on television advertising in Pennsylvania. He spent more than $3 million trying to get his name out and his message out to Hillary Clinton's $1 million," said Mark Preston, a CNN political editor.

The Illinois senator has also heavily benefited from the Service Employees International Union, which according to recently filed FEC reports has spent well over $700,000 on get-out-the-vote-efforts there.

Clinton voters, get use to the following terms, and names. Whitewater, Vince Foster, Filegate, Travelgate, Frank Giustra, and Mark Penn. These are just a few of the things that the republicans can bring up to eliminate Hillary in November. The "under fire" Bosnia landing and the that women's health care story are just the tip of the iceberg of the Clinton house of lies. How she convinced Ohio that she didn't want NAFTA was mind blowing! If Pennsylvania falls for the same, and votes her through, we could get these folks back in the whitehouse. The same whitehouse we spent millions of senate hearing dollars to try and impeach them! (of all things, for lying)..

I am african american and SUPPORTED Hillary until she started with the DIRTY politics and LIES,.

WATCH OUT, YOU CAN ONLY GET THE SIGNALS NOW. AND WHY DOES SHE ATTACK OBAMA WHEN SHE IS UNDER FIRE? HE DOES NOT DO THE SAME TO HER? OBAMA IS AN EXEMPLARY LEADER!

Bill seriously. I can't vote for a woman who needed to lie about her foreign policy experience. She traveled and had tea in 80 countries as a First Lady. Given that, my travel agent traveled to more places and should be elected for President? Hillary can't be trusted. She lied about her experience.

Obama doesn't have to win Penn. All he has to do is make it close so that she doesn't gain much in the delegate count. If they split a tight race it only support Obama.

    Going ... Going... GONE!

Hillary should take her wayward husband and what is left of her family – her daughter that campaigns for her, but picks and chooses which questions she will answer (remind you of anyone?), and go.

So far, she has been the best thing that McCain could hope to get! Hillary, way to go!. Now just go.

Well Pennsylvania now knows the truth about Hillary……and more Hillary bad news of the last few days will trickle down to them in the next few days. Imagine, I spoke to someone on Friday who was still undecided did NOT know about Hillary’s LIE about Bosnia nor Hillary’s NAFTA / CAFTA scandals.

Just going down Hillary’s top people makes you wonder about her campaign and the unethical activities that went on by them in the past and during the campaign
    – Mark Penn – lobbyist – trade scandal

    – Wolfsan – – lobbyist

    – Carville – should be fired for his remarks on Bill Richardson

    – Bill Clinton (spoke negatively about race, negative campaigning, scandals…….)

    – G Ferraro (spoke negatively about race)

    – Ed Rendell (spoke negatively about race)

    – Hillary (Bosnia, Ireland, NAFTA, HillaryCare in ‘90s, loves lobbyists, bad campaign)

They stated on Morning Joe that the story regarding the pregant girl being turned away by the hospital and later dieing turned out to be correct. The family stated that she had originally gone to a different hospital where she was turned away. Nice of you Obama supporters who were criticising her in the nastiest of ways yesterday to admitt your error in judgement. Was this a mis- spoke or a lie. Incidently, there was a guy who died at the hospital where Michelle Obama worked as a result of being turned away also. Obama's health care plan is flawed because it doesn't cover adults also. Clintons health care plan is much better.

History has taught us that these polls don't mean anything. What a shame that all of that money that Obama has spent is wasted and could have been donated to charity's instead.

As the lead narrows, so do Hillary's chances. She NEEDS to win PA by at least a double digit margin to even consider competing in this race. Then again, she NEEDED to win Texas but lost. As we have all seen, she's willing to change the rules.

Anything to win. Anything to be president

She is losing because she lied about Bosnia, NAFTA and the pregnant mother dying. Her own mother said that she will do anything and say anything to win. Too bad for her that the American people are not buying it this time. Time for Dems to unite and end this thing so Barack can face McCain and restore hope to our great nation.

the Columbian Trade Deal "IF"????? "IF" "IF" NO if's Hillary
is contemplating supporting the Columbian Trade Deal. NO
NO to Hillary. These trade deals, like Nafta, are won by votes
from people like Hillary and McCain and will do more harm than
good to the American people and jobs. Our country lost 80,000
jobs in March. When is this nonsense going to STOP????????

    election watcher:
When Hillary held a 20 point lead less than a month ago, having only a 6 point lead is DEFINITELY fading.
What would you like the headline to have said? "Clinton increases her lead to 6 points, up from 20"?

    How someone can put:

    "OBAMA'S PASTOR IS A RACIST!!"

    and

"PENN'S DEALINGS HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH CLINTON'S CAMPAIGN!!"

in the same comment without seeing the irony is beyond me.

I am SO TIRED of CNN constantly praising Obama and consistantly putting down Clinton. It has been obvious from the start that the news media in this country has been lopsisded in it's coverage of this election.
I guess the media likes a candiate with a racist for a minster and ties to a slum lord not mention everything else that is starting to come out.
Hopefully Pennsylvanians will see the light..unlike so many other states who voted race only!
America is failing miserably and this constant praising of Obama is getting really old.
And it is obvious that CNN usually only lets what they want in on here...mostly Obama fans putting Climnton down.

  20. Clinton Campaign in trouble

I don't think the polls are dropping for Mrs Clinton because of Money so much as her continued lies and mismanagement of her campaign. If Mark Penn is any indication of the people she choses to put in top positions do we want her running the country? Her campaign has been a disaster sense super tuesday.

Wow you really are creative. As a voter i am honest about my candidates flaws and strengths. Sure clinton is perfect even though she is consistently lying even Canada said Obama's stance was the same with them and publicly. Obama's Pastor was Obama's Pastor Clintons Bosnia Lie is her own lie. Obama is taking hits for everyone around him while Clinton only has to defend her consistent lies. It's okay america is tired of being lied to. We will take back this country.

This is one "older" Southern white woman that has been firmly behind and supporting Obama since December. I will continue to support him and I have been a life long Republican.

So, please don't think all of us older white women cannot think for ourselves. Some of us have built and lived our own lives and do not have to live vicariously thru Hillary.

  25. Susan / PA

I personally resent your remark about how Obama is creaping up on Clintons lead because he has out spent her. Thats just BULL. Clinton cannot even run a decent campaign, how is she going to run our very precious country?.....WE, PA citizens, can judge the truth for ourselves. Hillary Clinton is an underhanded politician, smooth and savy, knows just how to "spin" a tale..tall tales too. Hillary Clinton and I bet even Bill Clinton knew all along that Mark Penn was hired last March 2007 to plan a stragedy to get the Columbian Trade act through congress. So BULL she didnt know..and BULL she did the right thing. Quit insulting our integerity!!!!

    Vote responsibly April 22nd
