Rice said Tuesday she's not interested in being McCain's running mate.

(CNN) - Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice dismissed rumors on Tuesday she is angling to be John McCain's running mate, telling reporters she plans to head back to Stanford University.

"I very much look forward to watching this campaign and voting as a voter," she said. "I have a lot of work to do and then I'll happily go back to Stanford."

Rice served as Provost at Stanford from 1993-1999, and remains a tenured professor there.

"Senator McCain is an extraordinary American," Rice also said of the presumptive Republican nominee. "A really outstanding leader and obviously a great patriot."

Puh-lease run, Condi, run! Let's have as the Republican Veep candidate the National Security Advisor, who weeks before 9/11 read the briefing "Bin Laden determined to strike inside America", and immediately acted by doing.... absolutely nothing.

She is a complete failure as both a NSA and Secretary of State. Name one single way in which the US is better off either as perception or in real terms as the result of anything she has done. She is the failure of Bush incarnate, and even mistakenly refered to GWB as her husband.

Darth Vadik has great point about wretched evil creatures (although his evil-inspired screen name might lend a certain bias). Condo Rice is not just a disgrace to her race, or to women – she's a disgrace to human beings all around the world.

I wish she would run... I wish she would be McCain's VP candidate... It would be the quickest way to ensure a Dem victory in November. PLEASE RUN CONDI RICE... Skip all the campaigning and we can just claim the Dem victory now.

I completely agree with you Herman. Many people admire Condi, but wish that she wasn't stuck in Bush's administration. Bush used increadible talents like her and Powell to help sell America a phony bill of goods. Powell left the Bush administration on his own terms after realizing he had been used. I think Condi is smart enough to avoid all the "straight talk" comming from Bush and McCain. She won't be made into a spectacle like Powell was. I believe that she'll be casting her vote for Obama this fall, judging from the response she gave when they questioned her on Reverend Wright. Wouldn't it be great if she actually came out and endorsed him?!

It is amazing that United flight 93 with the heros that sacrificed and took down this plane in Shanksville are being dishonored by Obama's presence in that state. They lost their lives to protect the capital from being hit by that plane and Obama wants to be in that very same capital as president when he and his church blame America for 9/11.

In only 7 years we have already forgotten our fallen countrymen. What a disgrace.

Some of these blogs are stupid. some are terribly hatefull. Some are actually reasonable comments. YOURS IS ACTUALLY DISGUSTING
Where do you get off calling Mrs. Rice a wretched evil woman?
You must have a very sick mind. She is not anything except an intelegent
woman doing the best she can under the pressure of a lousy president.
That is her job! Would you expect the secretary of state to run around the world telling everyone she was working for a moron?

The U.S. is already on the wrong track and Rice helped put us there. We should be investing our time and money in science and technology instead of war. John McCain has no innovative plans for the future of America and without that there will be no forward progress. Why does America want a president that will continue to take us backwards. We need to think about our children by planning now for their future to be competitive in the fast moving world of science and technology. Education is the only answer, not war.

On the surface a McCain/Rice ticket seemed like a good idea, but then you saw it for what it really was. A desperate attempt by the Republicans to "create" this image of a party that represents the changing / diverse demographics of America. Condi is smart, she of all people understands that her presence on the ticket "does not a diverse party make." Get the "Welcome " sign out Stanford, Professor Rice is headed back.

I don't think he would pick her as his VP unless she has a lobbyist background. Anyway, he has no chance of winning once the facts about him come out. Let’s see, he wants 100 more years in Iraq, doesn’t know about the economy and likes to chase lobbyist skirt. He has the worst qualities of the past two presidents we can do without.

hello to all voting democrats and cnn, the most objective political coverage channel that i have grown to love.....my comment is regarding Ms. rice dimissing the rumor of VP, i'm happy to hear so because I would feel more comfortable if the rumor was regarding Colin Powell for 1, and as a democrat now that I think about Clinton and Obama are so close that maybe they should consider running as a united front and whichever one does win presidency, the other should be VP....with their similar views to a cetain extent, I would trust either one, should the President have to step down for whatever reasons, thank 4 allowing me to post a comment...

The only logical reason that Rice will not be on the ticket is because she will get flack from the Black community for stopping Obama.

As a member of the forgotten minority soon to be the majority I will not vote for Obama. My vote goes to the one person that believed in their country from day one. Senator John McCain.

Condi will suffer the same fate as I have for being a conservative Hispanic. The liberals will stop her from seeking higher office.

Liberals cannot handle successful minorities because it destroys their pre-conceived notion that we cannot make it without their help.
And it undermines their causes. Woe is me the poor (substitute your favorite minority)., The government has to help me.

Who admires this woman, she is a phony and a fraud.

She is always spotted at Saks fith avenue buying 10,000 dollar outdits.

She is a disgrace and is a sell out to African Americans.
She was not such hot crap when the woman protester walked up and got in her face, you could see the fear allover her face.

Is that who you want in office and admire, someone who is a coward.

She is a Bush cronie, and the only people that admire her are black woman that watch to much television. and think Oprah is god.........

Now that that's over with, Condi has had her 15 seconds of fame. McCain can move on with his campaign. There's still plenty of time for Hillary to be his VP after she concedes in two weeks. Maybe Mark Penn should be working for Bush. They share the same ideas.

Condeleeza chose the wrong party to represent............................
and if she stands behind Bush and McCain again............
What is her legacy like right now if she walks away from THEM?
If she stands in agreement with them, I don't respect that.
The only one who had the balls to walk away because he didn't
like what he was seeing was Powell. He was the best of them all.
Powell, Richardson, had the balls to walk away!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"McCain is the most straightforward candidate this country has seen in 50 years"

That was worth a belly laugh, thanks. Yes, McCain is straightforwardly for both sides of every position as long as you'll vote for him.

As for Rice, I imagine the folks at Stanford must feel like crawling into a hole every time her connection to that university appears in the media.

I think Chris Rock said it best when he said.

Why do people ALWAYS want the person who could BEAT them to run for VICE President??

Said when Bush hinted at Colin Powell running for VP at one time.

Bush, Rumsfeld, Cheney, and other heavy-lifters in the Administration pushed Rice around a lot. A woman with her brains and education knew from the beginning that the Iraq War was based on a false premise (WMDs) and was pursued in an idiotic way. We need a person with a little more backbone. Dr. Rice belongs in academia.
