Pelosi doesn't see a joint ticket with Clinton and Obama.

(CNN) - A presidential ticket including both Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama would surprise many political watchers, but none more so than House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

The California Democrat has repeatedly called such a ticket "impossible," and in an interview with mtvU student journalists Tuesday, she said flatly, "I don't see it."

"In this case, I don't see that as politically expedient," Pelosi said. "New York, Illinois…either one I believe are going to be strong Democratic states. I think it is up to the nominee to choose his or her vice presidential candidate."

Pelosi also seemed to suggest the two current Democratic presidential contenders wouldn't feel comfortable together on the same ticket.

"The person that is good is the person the presidential candidate feels comfortable with," she said, adding later, "I've just been involved in politics for a very long time and I just don't think that would be the ticket."

I wil be so angry if Hillary is on that ticket. She does not deserve it, after her sad perfomance of a Democratic candidate. She needs her walking papers. I know Barack will be tempted to put her on the ticket, but I hope he doesn't do it. He will open himself up to scandals, lies and headache, after headache.

Don't do it Barack, you deserve better.

I am for Hillary but I would still vote for McCain if Obama was anywhere near working in the White House.... he's scary and doesn't have anything of major accomplishment. Obama – clean up inner city Chicago first then maybe we'll talk (probably not).
Hillary and Edwards (okay, I know Edwards doesn't want it but that would be a great ticket)

vlcncwntr2012   April 9th, 2008 1:48 pm ET

What a shame the Congress and Senate of 1947, could not imagine the spouse of the President running for President. If they had, we may not have to watch the Democratic Party loose face in the public eye. The 22nd amendment would read: No person or their spouse shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice, and no person or their spouse who has held the office of President, or acted as President, for more than two years of a term to which some other person was elected President shall be elected to the office of the President more than once.

Diana   April 9th, 2008 1:47 pm ET

It is perfectly understandable that Obama and Hillary wouldn't want to be on the same ticket. Nothing wrong or harmful about that.

I wish them both well, as they both must surely believe they are doing what they think best, but ultimately, my vote goes to Obama.

Please, let's stop being so vicious to the Dem candidates! One of them has to go on the ticket and once that's established we have to come together and support him OR her - remember the priority: NOT ANOTHER SEVEN YEARS LIKE THE LAST!....

MB   April 9th, 2008 1:47 pm ET

If Obama makes President and Hillary is VP, how long would it be before he has a suspect accident that would make her President? You can't trust her!

NLC frm New York   April 9th, 2008 1:47 pm ET

Nancy Pelosi needs to stay out of this. As a County worker I know what she is trying to do and honestly I am very dissapointed in her. She needs to stay neutral on this and obviously she is not. Remember Mrs. Pelosi that you might run again for your post pls be careful what you say and what you are trying to pull.

pelosi is right, hillary will be difficult to work with unless she is the Boss.but for all intents and purposes, both obama and clinton on same ticket is a sure win for the dem.hope hill clinton has not done enough damage to make unity impossible.

Belle   April 9th, 2008 1:46 pm ET

Pelosi does NOT know JACK about divisive candidates:

Kennedy and Johnson VERY BITTER Primary campaign even more so than this one, if you can believe that...had to go to the Superdelegates...Outcome: Kennedy as Pres and Johnson as VP.

I also think it would be the best of both worlds....if it DID happen, you can bet McCain would want Rice on his ticket at that point.

B from Indiana   April 9th, 2008 1:46 pm ET

Truly, who cares what Reverend Wright thinks…he is not the one running for office. What I truly care about is where Obama, Clinton and McCain stand on the issues. I was raised in the Catholic Church, I am still attend the Catholic church…..I go to church because of my relationship to God…not because of the priest, or their political stands. God knows the Catholic Church has all kinds of problems, from the sex abuse scandal to their stand on contraception that is creating poverty and helping spread HIV in third world country. I still attend the church because of my relationship with God….if my attendance (or anybody attendance) depended on our agreement with the Pastor, Rabbi, or Priest…nobody would attend church in the first place.

Thank God!! I would NOT WANT HILLARY (or should I say Billary) on ANY ticket!! It's not convinient for Obama at all!! More than half of all democrats hate Hillary!

Even in California polls Obama leads by a healthy margin now, people regret voting for Hillary on Feb. 5th! She has made such a desperate fool of herself, and she has been caught in some of her lies, there are other lies that remain to be revealed. She can't even RUN HER OWN CAPAIGN OR PAY HER BILLS. She has hundreds of thousands of $$ in unpaid HEALTH insurance bills for her employees.

Her health care plan is mandated, which means YOU WILL BE FORCED TO BUY it, wether you can afford it or not.

No more lies, no more deception/secrecy, we are not children!

Pelosi has much more intelligence and capacity than hillary!

OBAMA/PELOSI 2008!!!

jim   April 9th, 2008 1:45 pm ET

Impossible indeed! Obama stands for what's positive about America.
Billary and Slick Willy represent all that's negative-dishonesty, disingenuousness, deceit. Billary degrades herself every day she stays with her cheating, lying hubbie. When Obama wins the nomination I'm sure he'll pick an individual of character. It sure isn't Billary!!

Anyone who votes for Hillary after she has told bold-faced lies in effect is saying lying is ok for our President. Unbelieveable to me. Of all the faults both candidates have, lying to the American public about being under sniper fire is the lowest of lows. How anyone can vote for someone like this is truly unbelievable.

Pelosi idea about to have Obama/Clinton joint ticket to November, 08, election will divide the Democtratic Party.

First, let the Candidate finish their primaries race which is coming close to end soon.

Second, let the choice to select the VP has whoever wins the nomination, who will be probably Mr. Obama.

And finally, let Michigan and Florida States have have delegates seated properly inJune 6, primaries Votes again and the people of the 2 states decide who is the favoured Candidate of the Democratic Party, Who I am sure will be Mr. Obama and will be getting this time from Michigan and Florida the majority primary votes from both states.

S. C. Florman   April 9th, 2008 1:42 pm ET

Pelosi has indeed been in politics a long time and knows a lot. No doubt she knows that the Democratic message since becoming the majority party has been nothing more than a continuing critique of the Bush administration. No doubt she knows that, along with Howard Dean, she has overseen the disenfranchisement of primary voters in two critical states guaranteeing a bitter conclusion to the primary process and very possibly handing still another election to the Republican party.

"While the crowd was indeed diverse, some students at the event questioned the practices of Mrs. Obama's event coordinators, who handpicked the crowd sitting behind Mrs. Obama. The Tartan's correspondents observed one event coordinator say to another, "Get me more white people, we need more white people."
To an Asian girl sitting in the back row, one coordinator said, "We're moving you, sorry. It's going to look so pretty, though."

Pelosi is right! I do not think Barack Obama will want Hillary as his vice president, especially after she made those remarks about McCain being more fit to be commander in chief than Barack Obama. So all you Clinton supporters, I'm sorry to have to tell this but your Hillary is done, gone from the political scene forever and with her the entire Clinton name. I don't think that the American people will even want to hear about Chelsea Clinton in future.

Elizabeth   April 9th, 2008 1:40 pm ET

No way. I'm sure Obama wants someone with better judgment and MUCH less political baggage than Clinton. Alternatively, we all know Clinton would never settle for second fiddle.

Besides, would YOU trust in your own safety if Clinton was your VP? Especially if there were already safety concerns?

Come on now – You know she'd do anything to be Prez, and Obama knows this.......

Sue   April 9th, 2008 1:39 pm ET

There is no way these two candidates can be on the same ticket. That would make a three-person ticket when you factor in Bill. One of the problems is that Hillary could trust Barack but I don't think Barack could trust Hillary and/or Bill.

Fred, I am sorry you feel that way about Barack Obama. I think he is a better man than you give him credit for.

Mike   April 9th, 2008 1:39 pm ET

As if Pelosi hasn't noticed, it appears as if NOBAMA has already appointed himself Commander In Chief.

His arrogance and smug qualities are so transparent; the arrogance is a true component for his true insecurities (lack of experience) and the "smug" qualities, well that's simply "attitude".

I agree with Fred on this one...

Obama supporters will be crying rivers if this guy is elected, the phrase "Oh gee what have we done" will resonate in a matter of months.

So when Obama when why should he take on Hillary no need to.

Angel   April 9th, 2008 1:36 pm ET

Pelosi is right......... Obama and Hillary have similar policies BUT their personalities are really different........they can't work together..........
Hillary has been waiting for her chance to be president and I just can't see her taking the VP spot......
Obama has stated time after time "our moment is now", I don't see him coming back to run again.......His wife confirmed that!!...........He also can't be VP look what happened to Al Gore..... Obama will have no influence because he would be overshadowed by Bill....... (Co-presidency). again Obama going for VP would totally undermine his whole message of the past (Clinton, bush etc) or
future(himself

Peter   April 9th, 2008 1:36 pm ET

Presuming that Obama is nominated, there is no way he would want Clinton as his running mate. She could not tolerate being in second place and would do all she could, once elected, to undermine him. And then there is the ire of Bill Clinton, who will have been robbed of his seat of power in the White House. Not a pretty scenario.

MD   April 9th, 2008 1:36 pm ET

John Ainsworth   April 9th, 2008 1:35 pm ET

Fred,

If you think you have some disagreement with Obama... wait until the millions and millions and millions of both Democrats and Republicans alike who distrust, disrespect and flat out dislike Hillary and Bill Clinton show you what disagreement is all about, if Hillary finds a way to scratch and claw her way onto the ticket. Hillary Clinton is beyond unelectable. She is the Democratic Party's worst nightmare. Many of the parties top members knew that from "day one."

Does anyone remember "Fatal Attraction?" Down right scary.

Fred, it's because of people like you that make the democratic party weaker. 'obama isn't fit to be a dog catcher?' are you serious man? why would you say that about such a brilliant person?

i don't really care if you support clinton or obama, it's a time for unity. the one thing republicans have cleaned our clocks with over the years is to use their party's influence to become unified behind one candidate.

i don't think it's unrealistic to say that if obama and hillary were republicans, the party would have made hillary concede weeks ago. put your best candidate front and center, and get behind them 100%. that's how you win in november.

I don't think Clinton will get the nomination (keeping it real) and if she did Obama shouldn't work for her being that she said John McCain is better fit to run the country. If Obama gets the nomination, Hilary hasn't proved to be trustworthy in any form or fashion...to work under Obama. There would be NO trust , Hilary just can't be trusted... PERIOD. Obama is for an authentic change. Hilary if for change that people want to hear; but heaven knows how she will get that done with her divisiveness.

Go OBAMA

Steve   April 9th, 2008 1:30 pm ET

Like Pelosi said before, how can they run together after Hillary already endorsed McCain? Pelosi is one smart person; smarter than Hillary will ever be. Hillary needs to get out of the race, accept defeat gracefully and get on with her life for the benefit of the democratic party, the nation and herself.

It's none of her business.

Vig   April 9th, 2008 1:30 pm ET

Al of a sudden Pelosi wants to be influential? She goes and visits the Dali Lama, holding his hand while telling the American public "Impeachment is off the table". How is George Bush any different than the human rights violaters of the Chinese government? Pelosi has turned out to be just one of the good ole boys of the Washington establishment. Who cares what she has to say. I don't.

Patsy, TN   April 9th, 2008 1:30 pm ET

Unfortunately Hillary should have ran in 2004. We would never have known she lies. The devil in Hillary came out when she starting losing to Barack. She just couldn't except it. Now we know the real Hillary, and it aint pretty.

Steve   April 9th, 2008 1:30 pm ET

Why is this woman allowed to speak. She has done very little with her powers and continue's to divide the issues.

marty from Indiana   April 9th, 2008 1:29 pm ET

Hillary has way too much bad baggage and would be a target for the Republicans. Ask Vince Foster his opinion on this. There isn't enough room on the same ticket for Obama, Hillary, Chelsea, Bill and the Columbians.

eddie, Quebec   April 9th, 2008 1:29 pm ET

You gotta admire Clinton's PA strategy. She's one briliant lady.

-Some Lewinsky planted questions to Chelsea to get sympathy votes from women and mothers.

-Resurrection of the Wright issue by a backer to get the attention away from the Columbian Trade. Because the NAFTA problem could hurt her PA blue collar vote.

-More 3am ads the scare people of PA

PA is hers. It's a shame she don't use her cleverness to actually help people.

Nancy is right. The country will never stand for Hillary on anybody's ticket. She is too divisive and a bit of a spoiled brat, to be honest. She has never had to work hard for anything in her life, and she has made the wrong choices too many times.

Thank her for her service as First Lady, and move on.

Why hasn't anyone called for Nancy Pelosi to step down? Congress has the lowest approval rating of any living, breathing thing on the planet, she's seemingly done nothing to disprove these ratings and more directly, Congress at large has seemingly done nothing this term. If this were the private sector, she would have been canned by now...

Hillary won't be the nominee so a Clinton/Obama ticket is dead in the water. Like so many have said, I would hate to see Bill Clinton in the White House with nothing to do!

Marcus   April 9th, 2008 1:27 pm ET

Response to fred:

Not fit enough to be a dog catcher, yet he has won the majority of everything there is to win. Let's be honest here, in terms of policy, there are no significant differences between Obama and Clinton. That means it comes down to other factors as likeability etc. I find your remark plain stupid. I pray to god Obama wins the general election against McCain as he's the one person to put America back on track. I don't care how good you think you are, get a reality check, the US is in shambles and dramatic changes are needed. Your comment only further shows how and why we are in the position we are in. Incompetence.

Penny, OR   April 9th, 2008 1:27 pm ET

Barack is not a rock star, he is a man. What he needs is someone honorable on his ticket, who doesn't lie. That would be most Americans, unfortunately, Hillary is not one of them.

I think Pelosi would make an excellent vice president !
She would not split the party, and would satisfy those in the party who will
vote only because they want to see a woman up there high on the executive side of government.

Goodwill   April 9th, 2008 1:26 pm ET

Pelosi idea about to a joint ticket to November, 08, election will divide the Democtratic Party.

First, let the Candidate finish their primary race which coming close to end soon.

Second, let the choice to select the VP has whoever win the nomination, who is probably Mr. Obama.

And finally, let Michigan and Florida States have June 6, primaries Votes again and decide who is the favoured Candidate of the Democratic Party, Who I am sure will be Mr. Obama and will be getting this time from Michigan and Florida the majority primary votes from bothe states.

Jamaal Kansas   April 9th, 2008 1:26 pm ET

Stop hatin because she is telling the truth Hilary has spoiled her chances for Vice President She could have had the second spot but she has run a agressively negative campaign

Steven   April 9th, 2008 1:26 pm ET

Pelosi, if you keep this up I will start a petition to remove you from your high-powered position. If either Clinton or Obama does not at least OFFER the position to the other, the Democrats will lose the election. Who cares if both NY and IL will go Dem? We had Edwards last year and that certainly did not help in the Southern states, did it? Did he help bring his home state of North Carolina? NO!

Duh...   April 9th, 2008 1:26 pm ET

Chinwe GA   April 9th, 2008 1:26 pm ET

Pelosi needs to just stay out of this. How many times do we need to hear her say this? She needs to start doing her own job and stop trying to divide the party.

If a joint ticket happens, that would be great for the party.

I think she only says these things because she has her own ambitions in mind.

Obama 08

Claudia   April 9th, 2008 1:19 pm ET

Pelosi is right. Hillary shouldn't be forced on Obama and vice versa. What's wrong with people who simply refuse to accept the rules of engagement. Hasn't anyone ever watched big brother and see what happens when people who are not alike share the same space. Hillary and Bill may be able to live in the same house, so don't try to force the same on Obama.

roger dowdle, lockhart, Tx   April 9th, 2008 1:19 pm ET

Given Hillary's disparagement of Obama and his readiness, it would be hard for him to accept her on the ticket. Besides, that would also bring Bill back into the whitehouse, along with the possibility of more scandal. It would also be difficult for Obama to watch his back against both of them. He also needs to pick somebody who will be able to run in 8 years, Hillary will be 69 and will face the same issues as McCain re age, plus all her other negatives. Had Hillary not resorted to "dirty" politics, and only stuck to differences on the issues, she might not have taken herself out of the picture entirely.

Dianna Spencer   April 9th, 2008 1:19 pm ET

I have a faith in Hillary. I am certain she will be the Democratic nominee and bit McCain in November. I just cannot see this ticket happens. After Obama's pastor comments and Obama's wife comments I became to this conclusion: Obama himself is a TERRORRIST.

Olivia   April 9th, 2008 1:19 pm ET

That would be a combination and comfort level that only the two candidates would know themselves. Nancy Pelosi should stay out of it. I sometimes get the feeling she is anti-Hillary. Maybe she is jealous of Hillary. She has not been successful at her new post, while Hillary has done extremely well even among the other dem male candidates.

Hillary is the most qualified. Not just words........but substance.
Now the Obamas are spending a lot of peoples' hard earned cash trying to BUY Pa voters.

GO WITH YOUR ORIGINAL GUT FEELINGS.......GO HILLARY!

Gil - California   April 9th, 2008 1:18 pm ET

Hillary sucks, there is no politically correct way of saying that. She has been against the military and the military vet since her days in the white house and this democratic vet would NEVER vote for her if she was anywhere on the ticket. Obama is hope, Clinton (either one) is hopeless.

Alonzo Demetrius   April 9th, 2008 1:18 pm ET

bill   April 9th, 2008 1:18 pm ET

It is time for the party to come together. Both of these candidates are great. I think Obama has ran a very good campaign. He is indeed a once in a life time leader.

len   April 9th, 2008 1:18 pm ET

Obama would be out of his mind to consider Hillary as his vice-president and that he is not. Just the opposite. Geez, who would like to get mixed up with the Clintons anyway?

EBC   April 9th, 2008 1:18 pm ET

I don't know what this is even still an issue.

The fact of the matter is if Sen. Clinton gets the nominee, she NEEDS Sen. Obama in order to get the African American votes and the votes of the younger college population.

If Sen. Obama wins, he DOE NOT need Sen. Clinton to win the Presidential election because he can CHOOSE whoever he wants, who could be someone who could very well BRING MORE to the table than Sen. Clinton.

There ARE better candidates for VP than Sen. Clinton. So it's not a must for Sen. Obama to select her at all.

Denis   April 9th, 2008 1:18 pm ET

Not being able to make comment on Lanny Davis' questions about Obama and the Rev Wright because the "add comments" was again closed quickly, I have to say that I agree with Mr. Davis. Obama to this point still has not given a satisfactory answer as to why he continued to be a member of the church and why he rewarded Rev Wright with a position in his campaign. I am convinced that Obama does not think the way Rev wright thinks but why ddi he support him and not quit.

This is the essence of why I cannot vote for this man (Obama)!!!!!!

It completely baffles me as to why his supporters don't get it!!! This is a very serious and imprtant issue of Obama's Credibility and JUDGEMENT!!! Why do his supporters think that this issue (Rev Wright) is not important are they blind??

What is wrong with her???   April 9th, 2008 1:18 pm ET

CNN...it has been WEEKS since anything I've posted has shown up on a blog. I adhere to the posting rules and yet if I post something that's not PRO-Hilllary...it never shows up!!! You've created an extremely slanted point of view by doing this.

In any case, here is my post (ONCE AGAIN) on this topic: having Hillary as VP on a ticket headed by Senator Obama would be likened to handing over the Presdency to McCain on a silver platter!!!

Now, CNN...was that so hard to swallow???

Micah   April 9th, 2008 1:15 pm ET

I don't understand why Pelosi is so hellbent against this ticket. I think it would heal the Democratic party. I'm supporting Hillary Clinton for President, but if Barack does get the nomination I would be much more comfortable with Hillary as his VP. It also isn't Pelosi's place to be making such a strong stance on this, it isn't her business right now. She's normally so focused on opinion polls and being politically correct, she just needs to sit back and be quiet. Personally, she's been such a disappointment to me. I was so excited when she became Speaker but she's just kind of blah these days.

Chris   April 9th, 2008 1:15 pm ET

No way Obama will have Hillary on his ticket. Why will he want a Bush as a VP? Hillary is the worst person that i know of. Wolf in sheep clothing and Hillary supporters are so naive to believe every word she says.

Hillary should just quit before she losses her respect.Opps..too late.

The fact is. Obama is already winning the nomination. Why should he care about having Hillary on his ticket? Besides, I am sure a lot of Hillary supporters will say , "I am voting for McCain". Fact of the matter is, that will amount to only about 5 % of hillary supporters and Obama will be getting a far larger percentage from the Republicans. So it does not matter if "a small number of hardcore" hillary supporters were to stupidly vote for McCain. I say, go and be ashamed of yourself at the end of the day.

Hillary/Chelsea 2016 – (hahaha..i had to laugh at that)

If Clinton had bowed out of this race when she had lost 10 states in a row and it was clear she would NOT catch up to Obama, She would have been a shoo-in for VP. Now Obama would be a fool to pick her. She and her husband have bitterly divided the party by injecting race and she even has implied that John McCain is more ready to be President than Obama. She cannot be on Obama's ticket. If she is, I will not vote.

wwf   April 9th, 2008 1:10 pm ET

It would be interesting to know the age of some of the posters on here based on their intelligent remarks.

Jacques   April 9th, 2008 1:10 pm ET

Pelosi is right. Also its not wise to consolidate all the power the democrats hold. Whomever loses will rise to a top leadership position and a strong voice in the senate. If they are forced to to pair up, dems will lose some strength in the senate.

Plus both candidates are strong enough to win alone, and their VP choices will be elevated to the spotlight, thus creating another star democrat.

Its much better for the party for them to go their separate ways when this ends, just the loser should campaign hard for the winner until November to help smooth over the rough edges.

lawrence   April 9th, 2008 1:10 pm ET

for those hillary backers stop been stupid there is no way she going to beat Mr. Obama so stop been stubborn.

Fred,
I wouldn't want Billary on Obama’s ticket, too much baggage... She isn't fit for dog catcher, pig farmer or cow milking. But she does make a good Pinocchio though!
Everyone keeps bringing up Rev. Wright a man that is older than Obama so why does he have to answer for what someone else has said? But nobody will make Billary answer for her many lies...
Your choice against the republicans.... possible Rev. Wright problems and a try to tie into Rezco canidate (Obama) or a problem with Bosnia lie, problem with Nafta lie, problem with Kosavo lie, problem with adviser lie, problem with claim of lady with no health care lie and the many, many other scandals that the republicans along with Karl Rove will bring up! And don’t try to say that Obama stayed with the church is a problem then the issue should also be; why did Hillary stay with Bill when 99% of the women would have left their man after going through that many relationships with other women?

of course that would be ridiculous!

the two are incompatible

That comment from Fred is contradictory to language we heard from philandering Bill who said Barack would be a fine running mate with his pudgey wife .

I can't wait to read a psychological dissertation on the profile of Hillary supporters.

Aaron   April 9th, 2008 1:08 pm ET

Why would Obama choose a running mate that is helping John McCain?

Hillary has a about a 1% chance of winning the nomination. And her chances of winning the general election would be .0001% after a controversial convention. If she cares so much about ending the war, the economy, etc., why not get behind Obama, who still has a chance to beat McCain?

DNC really messed this one up.

Obama 08

Adam   April 9th, 2008 1:07 pm ET

Basically, if Hillary somehow wins, Obama wouldn't want to be VP in name only behind Bill, and if Obama wins, he wouldn't want to have to deal with all of Hillary's negatives.

Makes sense to me.

Harvard Alumni for Obama   April 9th, 2008 1:07 pm ET

You're very mature Fred....

The truth of the matter is that the only way Hillary is going to get the nomination is if she steals it, and that will cause an uproar. Bottom line, she's never going to get it, but if she does, she will need him on her ticket.

Obama is not going to put her on his ticket, because he wants change in Washington, and Hillary is not that change. Nope, he won't ask Hillary.

And that's the truth Fred! Can you handle that?

MovingOn   April 9th, 2008 1:07 pm ET

Everyone knows it won't happen, why keep asking about it? Obama has the nomination locked up, it's just a matter of time until all the primaries are complete. Even if Florida and Michigan were counted as is Clinton can't win (which they shouldn't be, rules are rules). So how would Obama benefit having someone on the ticket that is exactly what he has campaigned to change? Let it die people...

gc   April 9th, 2008 1:06 pm ET

Jack   April 9th, 2008 1:05 pm ET

I disagree w/ ol' Nance... she said she'd have the troops out too

I think a Clinton-Obama ticket will draw the entire Dem base and enough Independents (maybe not as much as McCain, but enough Independents) to win the election (the conservative base of the Republican party will not show up to vote McCain)

Bryan from Michigan   April 9th, 2008 1:05 pm ET

President Obama would be having to babysit Ms. Clinton on every issue.

She wouldn't be someone that could "share" the limelight.

Besides, I think the majority of Americans would sleep much better knowing she wasn't even anywhere near the white house.

He's even excelled at it and bagged the biggest dog of them all – The Hilldog! Republicans   April 9th, 2008 1:04 pm ET

hugh   April 9th, 2008 1:04 pm ET

I don't think that Hillary has the ethics that Senator Obama is looking for in his vice president. The lack of financial transparency out of Bill and Hillary is of grave concern.

PA   April 9th, 2008 1:04 pm ET

The only way that Hillary would be offered a spot on Obama's ticket is if she, Bill, and Mark Penn said that they are sorry for all the negative things they have said about Obama. They could admitt that they would do and say anything to win. But then, they would be unelectable. They have set this up for themselves, now they have to live with it.

Dave C - NJ   April 9th, 2008 1:04 pm ET

Good, thanks for the update.

Paula   April 9th, 2008 1:04 pm ET

I am hoping people who enjoy writing negative comments for either candidate are also researching both Hillary & Barack. John McCain will try in the end to use scare tactics & his past military history to win this election. All of us will have to join in together to keep the party strong & not divide it. By the way I am a registered Independent but will be voting Democratic hoping to ensure we do not stay in Iraq another 4 plus years.

Linda. Boston, MA   April 9th, 2008 1:03 pm ET

Pelosi also seemed to suggest the two current Democratic presidential contenders wouldn't feel comfortable together on the same ticket.

They wouldn't! At this point, I don't think they even feel comfortable in the same room. But I don't know why people are still beating this drum. Don't people understand that a VP has to believe in the Pres, and the Pres has to believe in the VP? Clinton has already made it clear that she thinks Obama is less qualified than McCain to be commander in chief. That makes a joint ticket (however you define it) one without any credibility.

What I find particularly amusing is the Karma of the situation. 2 months ago, the idea of Hillary being Obama's VP would have been AMAZING! (I would have LOVED it). But she has gone so uber-negative as of late that she's made that impossible. I realize that she wanted to make history as the first female Pres (and I'm still eager for that day to arrive, because "Madame President" sounds very cool! :) ) but she still could have made history as the first female VP. Her own nasty behavior, however, has eliminated that possibility. She has no one to blame but herself.

Willam from Texas   April 9th, 2008 1:03 pm ET

Nancy, the question I would like to see you answer is,

"Would you back a dream ticket between the two candidates?"

Now maybe you're talking this way because you don't personally want to see them run together. And being a politician, you know that weak minds are easiy swayed. Maybe you are trying to infuence readers of these columns, I don't know.

Please stop.

JB   April 9th, 2008 1:03 pm ET

The reasons many Obama supporters have decided to support Obama, is to avoid the "Hillaryesque" type of candidate.

If Obama picked up Clinton as his VP, I would question my vote for Obama in the GE. The main reason to pick up a VP is to gain traction in areas they are having difficulties. Hillary would not do that for Obama. She would only hurt him.

If a Clinton/Obama ticket was forced down our throats, there is no way I would vote for Clinton as Prez, and many Obama supporters agree.

That card would ensure John McCain's success.

The only people that would want such a card are the Hillary supporters who know they are about to lose anyway.

Hillary can't manage a primary campaign. She's 8.7 million in debt to small business owners and schools who held rallies for her. She's can't effectively manage her campaign staff. She has no consistent message. She makes nearly daily "misstatements". Her campaign was centered around 35 years of experience, most of which has been debunked.

Obama doesn't need to carry the Clintons to the presidency – he's doing fine without them.

Obama 08!! =-)

Beau from Denver   April 9th, 2008 1:01 pm ET

Their is a lot of bitterness that I see dividing the Democratic Party. I don't think Mrs Clinton being added to the ticket would help Obama win in november but I do think it would benefit her to but Obama on the ticket. Either way the bitterness needs to stop. Mrs Clinton supporters are getting rabid and many Obama supporters aren't any better. They are both good candidates and deserve a fair shot. I am all for Mrs Clinton staying in the race as long as she feels she should so long as she remains focused on the Democrats beating McCain in the fall and not on tearing down Obama.

When will Pelosi be quiet? Let this campaign and the primary season go forward. No one knows who will be on the ticket. If CLinton is a close second, Obama would be foolish not to offer it to Clinton and vice versa. But the Democrats are always stupid and manage to alienate a large number of its membership. Democrats need to be united against ttheRepublicans because if you thought the primnary camapaign is nasty..just wait for the general election. I hope the Democrats do not blow their chance to regain the White House.

After all of her antics ( I am trying to be nice here) how could you expect ANYTHING to be done with her around. She is out of touch AND control. I am still wondering how she plans to keep her Husband in check. He is pushing MAJOR programs that SHE says she is AGAINST!! IF and I say IF we are to believe this how is she going to keep Bill from useing the Whitehouse to push his own private agenda designed to make them Richer?? Did we all not learn from BUSH and his OIL and Big Pharma Buddies??

Would ANY of you actually invite a person into your HOME who has slandered and lied about you and attacked your character as she has attacked Obamas?? Let me help you NO!! You would be waiting on the porch with a shotgun.

So WHY shoud Obama ask her to be the number 2. It is like asking a enemy to watch your back and being STUPID enough to trust them to do just that.

That is how bad I feel about Hillary and the Clintons after so many years of supporting them. She would only want the VP spot to undermine Obama and then run against him in 4 years.

Herman LA, CA   April 9th, 2008 12:55 pm ET

Hillary have flip flop so many times and have told so many lies that I think voters have really caught on to you for who you really are. How many times has she changed her campaign slogan, website, and everything else?

Despite all of the blathering about "dream ticket," this pairing was never a good idea. Neither of these candidates have credible experience in foreign policy or the military. Pairing them up does not fill that void. When Obama is finally officially granted the nomination he has already so clearly earned and won, he will need to pick someone with some serious foreign policy bona fides (Richardon, Biden, or someone I've never heard of).

Pelosi has consistently shown remarkable wisdom inspite of whatever her detractors may say. If anybody in America can picture Hillary as VeePee then they must be residents of wonderland. The Obama/Clinton ticket is only one of Bills attempts to undermine Obama's qualification and to think anybody bought is only a confirmation that some people still believe the Clintons. Well, Barack deserves the right to select who he can work with. The talk of a dream ticket thankfully will be what it is: A DREAM. Wake up people.

Obama needs to explain his relationship with William Ayers. How do you maintain a friendship with a domestic terriost that attempted to bomb the Pentagon and still run for President? Obama needs to be disqualified. And why does the media ignore this story? The only one who will report on it is Fox News.

Not a chance   April 9th, 2008 12:52 pm ET

Considering the completely different philosophies on the ways to deal with their political environment, I cannot see any way Clinton and Obama could be on the same ticket. In any case, with Bill in the picture, and his inability to stop meddling (he doesn't seem to realize he's not running for president) any ticket with Hillary on it is going to be challenging, not only to Hillary (how do you tell your husband, politely, to shut up?) but also to her VP. I don't think Obama would care to be in the middle of that. In the case where Obama led the ticket with Hillary as VP, the Bill factor is still there, and Hillary is such a strong woman I do not believe she'd be able to be a good, mindful and respectful VP.

Additionally, there's been so much venom between these two and their supporters, I cannot imagine them being able to put differences behind them and work together.

Tex   April 9th, 2008 12:52 pm ET

You have that right! Having Hillary on the ticket as VP will cost the Democrats big time votes. The fall out will impact on Democratic races for the House, Senate, Governorships on down. In fact, having Hillary on the ticket as Prez will doom the entire party and Republicans know it. That is why they are wanting to be so helpful ensuring her nomination and Limbaugh's call to Republicans to cross over as they did in Ohio and Texas.

Uncommitted Democratic super delegates need to come on out for Obama now.

Open your eyes Pelosi (new Obama girl)! The best way to unite the party would be to have both of them on the same ticket as the popular vote is nearly split in half. Polls indicate that voters who chose the candidate that loses the nomination, will not support the nominee. This is more so for the Hillary backers who will vote for McCain, including me, if Obama gets the nomination.

NObama   April 9th, 2008 12:49 pm ET

Pelosi should step down!

A party leader's job is to make impossible possible but not to divide the party. She ought to be held accountable if the Democretic Party loses in the general election.

SPQR753   April 9th, 2008 12:49 pm ET

Suggestion for Mrs. Pelosi:

Mind your own business!

Thomas, LA   April 9th, 2008 12:49 pm ET

Geeze, who would possibly thing Obama would consent to letting Hillary be his VP? He'd be afraid she'd do him in to get in the big chair.

Lee   April 9th, 2008 12:48 pm ET

Barack is too charismatic to play second fiddle...and Hillary feels too entitled to this presidency to be VP. There won't be any ballot combination that works with these two...

Frank Biosah   April 9th, 2008 12:48 pm ET

Can somebody tell me how this careless comment helps the democratic party? It is obvious that Ms Pelsi does not like Hillary Clinton but one is disappointed that she is not mature enough to keep it to her self.

By the way, I am a African-Canadian who supports Barack Obama but I believe that the good of the party and country should guide people in political position when they make statements.

Ohio Dem   April 9th, 2008 12:48 pm ET

What's her deal? WHY is she still talking? Enough already. Just take the donkey down the road and shoot it in the head why don't you!

Thank you   April 9th, 2008 12:47 pm ET

Smart Lady... This ticket would be a disaster either way. I want the Dems to win, but I want it to work past the election and I don't see Hillary taking a back seat to anyone and I don't see Obama having a chance in Hell at being heard when lodged between the Clintons.

starfire426, Salem VA   April 9th, 2008 12:47 pm ET

You're absolutely correct, Speaker Pelosi...having Hillary as the VP on an Obama ticket would be likened to handing McCain the Presidency on a silver platter.

Not gonna happen!!!

vic nashville,Tn   April 9th, 2008 12:47 pm ET

Look like Pelosi is next Vice President !!!!!!
Obama/Pelosi

My vote for Mc Cain

Manuel TX   April 9th, 2008 12:46 pm ET

Ok Nancy, we're clear on your opinion.

Still, it's just your opinion and nothing more, unless of course you're trying to position yourself for the VP slot.

:)

MW Los Angeles   April 9th, 2008 12:46 pm ET

That's right, it wont happen folks let it go!!!!!

And for the Nobama's and Kentuckyboy's (under the Clinton backer to Obama story) leaving their comments. If you are so bent out of shape about Obama and the PAST Wright issue to the point where you feel you will be ashamed to be an American (Per NOBAMA) go to another country and find residence. Because if you weren't or haven't been ashamed of your country over the PAST 8 years and tolerated the BS under the present President we know what the REAL problem is...and it ain’t Wright. Try looking in the mirror you hypocrites. You were probably some of the same few talking mess about Michelle’s comment. Again I say look in the mirror. No matter who is chosen we should all be thankful to live in the great USA. Pay attention to what’s going on around the world, idiots and be thankful you are HERE with President Obama or Clinton.

LA   April 9th, 2008 12:46 pm ET

I am not sure why Speaker Pelosi keeps talking about this. Has she been promised the VP spot too?

Matthew Lowsey   April 9th, 2008 12:46 pm ET

Speaker Pelosi needs to just stop commenting about this. She is really starting to get on my nerves... I would not mind seeing a joint ticket with Obama on top of course but if he chooses someone else then that is fine as well. But Speaker Pelosi needs to let the process play out and not make these repeated enthusiasm killers. I used to like Speaker Pelosi but she is over-stepping her position as Speaker of the House.

Young Rep   April 9th, 2008 12:45 pm ET

WOW!!!! Really, Ms. Speaker.... Are you sure? I think everybody in America knows this.... By the way..... why does Obama seem to always use "uh" so many times. Everytime I hear him speak it's I "uh" did not support "uh" this war "uh...."uh" hey micheal..."uh" micheal jordan "uh" I'm wearing your underwear.. "uh"... "uh".."uh"..vote for change..'uh"...

I hope some of you have a sense of humor....

George from Minneapolis   April 9th, 2008 12:45 pm ET

She is just stating the obvious, Obama would not want Hillary to be his V.P.

Why is this still news ??

Funny but isn't she the same one who said, Democrats can stop the war, help the economy, and stop the Bush bullies? Just because she has been involved in politics a long, long, long time doesn't mean she knows anything as she has proved so far. Besides, her negatives about Clinton has been a major issue with this California witch and Obama has played the kissing game well!

gerard morei   April 9th, 2008 12:45 pm ET

HILLARY AND EDWARDS, THAT WILL BE A DREAM TICKET!!!!
REAL LATINOS WILL SUPPORT HILLARY CLINTON FOREVER, ABOUT 73% OF THE LATINO COMMUNITY STILL SUPPORT HILLARY BECAUSE WE KNOW SHE ALLWAYS SUPPORT OUR COMMUNITY, OUR RIGTHS AND OUR FAMILIES ALONG WITH OUR DREAMS. A REAL LATINO WILL NOT VOTE FOR OBAMA,BECAUSE THIS IS THE FIRST TIME HE EVEN TALK TO US BECAUSE HE NEEDS OUR VOTE, BUT WE ARE A LOYAL COMMUNITY AND WE SUPPORT THE PERSON WHO ALLWAYS CARE ABOUT US, NOT JUST ONLY IN PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION YEAR.
WE LOVE YOU HILLARY.
HILLARY CLINTON FOR PRESIDENT 2009!!!!!
SI SE PUEDE!!!!!!!

Pepou   April 9th, 2008 12:45 pm ET

Of course it won't happen. Clinton will not get the nomination and Obama will need an energetic, honest, new person as VP.

Ron R   April 9th, 2008 12:44 pm ET

Why would Senator Obama want Hillary on his ticket?? She is an absolute liability and a dart board for the republicans....

again?   April 9th, 2008 12:44 pm ET

Ok, so what I'm getting from ALL these stories is House Speaker Pelosi doesn't think the ticket will happen. I got that from the other stories with the same headlines. Is this still news? Please stop reporting something that isn't news, and that we already know.

Bob Stephens   April 9th, 2008 12:44 pm ET

Nancy, you are as sharp as a bowling ball to figure that out.... Amazing.....

There is a fundamental difference between Obama and Hillary. Obama does not take PAC and Lobbyist money. How can he have Hillary on the ticket who takes money from PAC and Lobbyist? Doesn't make much sense to me.

Matt   April 9th, 2008 12:43 pm ET

Why do people keep asking her the same question when we already all know her answer? And that is completely obvious. Hillary only tried using that to attempt to sway Obama backers into backing her. I am so tired of her political games and lies.

The Great One   April 9th, 2008 12:43 pm ET

I know sooo many people will say that she shouldn't rule out the possible ticket but Pelosi is doing the democratic party a HUGE favor...she is killing the possible disappointment early instead of letting it grow. if soo many ppl start to believe this ticket will happen then lots of ppl will be disappointed if or when it doesn't happen...and that will bring animosity toward the candidate that wins and possibly lead to ppl staying at home or worse voting for McCain....Pelosi is honestly doing whats best for the party...just wish i could say that about others.

D. LaLaine, AZ   April 9th, 2008 12:42 pm ET

have to visit a cliff near the Grand Canyon.

Trust matters the most to me; therefore, if Hillary wins the nomination or if Obama puts her on the ticket or even if she has a cabinet position in the White House, then I will not vote democrat this year. I just really don't trust Hillary anymore :(

Willam from Texas   April 9th, 2008 12:42 pm ET

Nancy I like you, but please do not make any predictions. Unless you know for a fact thay they will not run on the same ticket, your opinion is only tht, an opinion.

Hillary Clinton for the peace and prosperity of the Nineties

Tell them like it is, Pelosi. NO-WAY, Obama doesn't need nor wants Hillary is his VP. That position is already taken by Jim Webb of VA.

carmen   April 9th, 2008 12:41 pm ET

She is right.

Joe   April 9th, 2008 12:40 pm ET

Whomever Hilary or Obama is comfortable with should be irrelevent. It is obvious that Democratic voters are torn between the two, so why not join forces for the "comfort" of the people of the United States. A highly probably win for the party should be their goal, if they are on the same ticket, they both win – everyone wins. I believe that they both can do extraordinary good for the country working as President or Vice President. The problem is, which one will take the lead on this?

RFP   April 9th, 2008 12:40 pm ET

Yup, I don't think we're gonna see a joint-ticket.

Ralph   April 9th, 2008 12:40 pm ET

Whoops!

Obama supporters, do you believe that questions like this is going to help Obama? Not really. In America you have every right to speak out but in America every person should also be judged by his/her own actions. May he who has no sin, cast the first stone.

K. Sutherland, TX   April 9th, 2008 12:39 pm ET

. . . .Clinton is too toxic for Senator Obama.

Kel   April 9th, 2008 12:39 pm ET

She's right. I don't think I could see it happen, either. Once Hillary started mud-slinging, the campaign got so nasty that I don't think either of our Dem candidates will be comfortable in office with the other just one rank below. They can't trust each other anymore, and I don't blame them.

zona   April 9th, 2008 12:38 pm ET

I agree with Pelosi–I don't see a joint Obama-Clinton ticket because when Obama wins (1) he won't be asking Clinton to be his running mate and (2) Clinton would never consider second place and (3) therefore, Clinton should just go home to Bill and live happily ever after with their $109 million income.

JAB   April 9th, 2008 12:38 pm ET

Nancy Pelosi has great big big problems of her own in the do nothing Congress – she needs to mind her own business and stay out of this race and get to work for the people. She is hated more than George Bush if you want to know the truth and God help us there! What she thinks carries no respect at all with me!

Stacy Clarks,   April 9th, 2008 12:38 pm ET

I don't see it either!!

i might have seen it earlier in the race, but there is too much bad blood now!!

now i only see Obama as president!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Pelosi must be hoping............   April 9th, 2008 12:38 pm ET

I wonder lol. What a disaster Obama/Pelosi would be. Almost too funny.

Mary Smith   April 9th, 2008 12:38 pm ET

Dan in CO   April 9th, 2008 12:37 pm ET

She's right...again.

Choosing a running mate is a personal choice. And the key word is choosing.

I support Obama, but I flatly refuse to vote for a Clinton/Obama or Obama/Clinton ticket.

NObama   April 9th, 2008 12:37 pm ET

Of course it is immposible. No one with any intelligence wants Obama on any part of the ticket.

Pelosi is just trying to make herself relevant. Someone needs to go ahead and drop a house on her sister and splash her with water so she can fade away.

Elisabeth   April 9th, 2008 12:36 pm ET

Maybe a ticket without Nancy Pelosi is more posible?

Pete   April 9th, 2008 12:36 pm ET

prakash chand   April 9th, 2008 12:36 pm ET

Who the hell is Pelosi when her congress rating is 19% lower than George Bushs,.......give democrats abreak Pelosi.

Go do something in congress or shut up.

Bill Brown Dallas, TX   April 9th, 2008 12:35 pm ET

Of course it won't happen. Who wants third fiddle to Hillary and Bill? And why would Obama pick the candidate as a running mate with the highest negatives of any candidate in American history – esp. since he won't need help winning New York anyway?

Mike   April 9th, 2008 12:35 pm ET

Why would HIlary want that anti-American sermon listening Obama on her ticket?

Hillary is the only true candidate. Unfortunately Obama is winning thanks to the kool-aid generation.

Amy in Iowa   April 9th, 2008 12:35 pm ET

This is a no-brainer. It is not going to happen because voters will not vote to let it happen. Hillary is too status quo and polarizing to be VP in a change election. Obama needs a VP who is a postive and unifying factor, like he is, in this election.

john   April 9th, 2008 12:35 pm ET
