Bill Clinton is defending his wife's Bosnia claims.

(CNN) - Bill Clinton strongly defended his wife Thursday over the recent coverage surrounding her 1996 Bosnia trip claims, saying the media acted as if she'd "robbed a bank."

"I got tickled the other day, a lot of the way this whole campaign has been covered has amused me, but there was a lot of fulminating because Hillary, one time late at night when she was exhausted, misstated and immediately apologized for it, what happened to her in Bosnia in 1995. Did y'all see all that? Oh, they blew it up," the former president said at a campaign event in Boonville, Indiana Thursday afternoon.

"You would have thought, you know, that she'd robbed a bank the way they carried on about this," he added. "And some of them when they're 60 they'll forget something when they're tired at 11 at night, too."

Controversy surrounded Clinton after video footage showed she did not land "under sniper fire" during her 1996 trip to Bosnia, despite making that claim on several occasions - most recently during a mid-morning address on March 17. Clinton later said she "misspoke" about the trip, and attributed the exaggerations to exhaustion.

"I have been in the public eye for many, many years, and this is something that I think happens to anybody," Clinton also said if the exaggeration which served to raise questions anew about her candor.

But speaking Thursday, Bill Clinton said his wife was justified in characterizing the landing as dangerous.

"Let me just tell you, the president of Bosnia and General Wesley Clark - who was there making peace where we'd lost three peacekeepers who had to ride on a dangerous mountain road because it was too dangerous to go the regular, safe way - both defended her because they pointed out that when her plane landed in Bosnia, she had to go up to the bulletproof part of the plane, in the front," the former President added Thursday.

"Everybody else had to put their flak jackets underneath the seat in case they got shot at. And everywhere they went they were covered by Apache helicopters. So they just abbreviated the arrival ceremony. "

Responding to the former president's comments, Clinton campaign spokesman Phil Singer said, "Senator Clinton appreciates her husband standing up for her, but this was her mistake and she takes responsibility for it."

Well Hillary might have mis-spoke, but she didn't maintain a very close relationship with an anti-American, anti-white spiritual leader and mentor for 20 years. Who really lacks the judgement to be president. Go Hilliary – because if it's not Hilliary – I'm voting McCain.

Bill and Hill are the biggest LOSERS!!

Guess what? Losing gracefully is no longer an option for these two characters.

Even if she runs in 2012, I wouldn't vote for this lying, manipulative, wayward politician.

No, Hill, you are not "my girl".

FH -SC   April 11th, 2008 1:34 pm ET

Bill Clinto is SO right! The media blows everything way out of
proportion - especially if it is a negative for Hillary...

Even Madeline Albright came to her defense. She stated that she's
flown all over, and YES, you can get mixed up about where things
happened. It's happened to her.

Add to "Zoinks": You're right. If she can't think straight at 11 and tired, how could she ever make sense on a 3 AM phone call?

Bill - Charlotte   April 11th, 2008 1:33 pm ET

Bill…. IT was 1996… not 1995

She told the story at least three times… not once

She told it each time at a rally… not 11:00pm

She and Eleanor were not the first into a war zone… Pat Nixon went to Vietnam

Finally, Bill, "I doubt you really "got tickled!" Furious, might be a better word. Just take a few days off and go back to Columbia; make a few more speeches. My guess is you'll find someone there that will believe this mess.

BillieJean in Idaho   April 11th, 2008 1:33 pm ET

Alexandra   April 11th, 2008 1:33 pm ET

Bill what are you talking about?
You are hurting her by more "misstatements" – she never appologised for the lie right away, she waited until the media found the actual footage of her trip to bosnia.
Enough Clintons, Go away please!!!!!

Joshua   April 11th, 2008 1:32 pm ET

Well if the press' coverage of Bosnia was a bank robbery, Obama must have murdered someone considering the inordinate amount of time they spent quoting Rev. Wright out of context.

Exhausted man   April 11th, 2008 1:31 pm ET

Image what sort of "misstatements" she can do, should anybody ever distrub her at 3:00am.

NH Mom   April 11th, 2008 1:31 pm ET

Bill – you say it like it is. Thank you. The media has been so unfairly harsh to Sen. Clinton. Obama has received a free ride – probably because the media is scared of being called racist. They certainly have no problem being sexist though.

Mama   April 11th, 2008 1:31 pm ET

Shut up Bill. Hillary is a liar just like you're a liar. She didn't misspeak, she lied! Then she called Sinbad "Just a comedian" when he called her on it. She repeated it on separate occasions and made herself into Rambo, going where you can't go because it's too dangerous. Give us a break; no one is that dumb to believe it. If she's too tired to know reality from make believe, maybe she's just too tired to be President, who knows what lack of sleep will do to her in the White House. LOL, the 3 a.m. call... is she even coherent that early in the morning? Old age is catching up to her, even you admit it Bill.

Rock   April 11th, 2008 1:31 pm ET

Clinton campaign spokesman Phil Singer said, "Senator Clinton appreciates her husband standing up for her, but this was her mistake and she takes responsibility for it."

Good. Now Bill, chill out.

Jools   April 11th, 2008 1:31 pm ET

But she made up a story (i.e., lied) to sell herself as having some dangerous foreign policy experience. No one, not even Hillary supporters, believes that she 'misspoke' or remembered the story incorrectly. She wanted to use the Bosnia experience for political ends, so she made something up on the spot to score some experience points. Bill is making a mistake even bringing this up again. They keep pushing these things even when it harms their campaign. So, in additional to the dishonesty this story demonstrates, there's also the fact that they can't capably run a campaign. Ugh!

peter ramsay   April 11th, 2008 1:31 pm ET

If Bill Clinton says his wife at 60 gets "tired at 11pm", how effective will she be at answering that famous 3 am call?!!:)

Surely he is making the case for someone younger??

Bill, how do you expect Hillary to be president when she can remember to tell the truth. In fact, how could you trust either one of the Clintons on anything. Money from the Columbian's, the Saudi's, there is no telling how many more lies that will come out, who's sleeping where, just not together.

Jim   April 11th, 2008 1:29 pm ET

"Misstated," "misspoke." The Clintons must always travel with a thesaurus at hand to meet their demand for more palatable euphemisms for "lied." Both "misstate" and "misspeak" carry connotations of innocent error. We misspeak or misstate when we forget the facts or don't know the facts. We lie when we deliberately distort the facts, and saying you've been shot at when you haven't isn't a matter of misinterpretation, it isn't a little slip in memory. It is a lie, and the American public doesn't deserve to be lied to for another eight years.

ami from ca   April 11th, 2008 1:29 pm ET

I used to respect Bill for many good things he did as a president. I don't understand he is saying a LIE to defend a BIG LIE. Best thing for them to do is keep quiet on bosnia issue.

Why are they still in the race if white women can not do no better that this type of female to run for the white house God help them. Why do they keep supporting liars with there eyes open. Do they hate a black man that bad that they will loose the White House to keep a black man out and let there family suffer for 4 more years with the GOP in charge. We need to do what best for the country . They have not held Hillary resposible for Bills treament of women but will hold Obama responsible for his Preacher words. Jon, Pittsburgh, PA   April 11th, 2008 1:29 pm ET

You can say she lies, lies, lies but, your examples are not worthy of being called lies. Keep saying it if you want, I know you think that by saying it over and over and over it will convince the dim whitted amoung us to believe it. That's directly out of the Republican playbook, by the way.

Obama has had his share of misspeaks, too. I don't think they are blatant lies but, if you insist that Hillary is such a liar, I guess I can start calling Barack a liar on a number of statements he makes.

Your continuous attacks on Hillary are baseless. Wise people understand this and small minded ones don't.

Thank you TR for your video link to youtube.

There is no doubt that Hillary has bit around the bush on everything from Bosnia to accusing Obama.

The link re-enforce my believe not to consider her in the whitehouse.

Hillary has no credibilty and there no doubt that soo many people realized it.
I know that there are lots of people who will support her no matter what lies and fraudulent activity she was caught on.
I can't blame ever support her, because of the name recognition.

Yeah the Clintons are fabricators, they will tell you what they think you will like to hear even though it is false.

There is no law that banned telling lies, so they are getting away with all lies and exagerations.

Well if she wins don't expect things to get better, she has to pay off her loans, bills and get herslef confortable.

If this statement was an oversight on the part of Senator Clinton, she must catergorilcally state in which country, when & where she landed under 'sniper fire' . She is a snr.political leader, aspiring to become the president of USA and should not say things just to gain sympathy of the people but substantiate it with proof. A person of that status should not play to the gallery

Maxine   April 11th, 2008 1:24 pm ET

I thought she "misspoke" in a speach on St. Paddy's Day. I don't recall that being at 11 pm at night. This sure doesn't help her in the I can do the job poll. He says: 1. She was tired 2. It was 11 pm 3. she is 60 years old and her memory is going.

President Bill is erasing my memory of all the good things that happened during his presidency and post-presidency. Everytime he speaks or is tickled about how everyone is carrying on, I remember don't ask, don't tell, the Lewitsky lie, the Obama fairytale, the Jesse Jackson comparison, etc.

Leanna Bull   April 11th, 2008 1:22 pm ET

Why does he think people overreacted? What about Rev Wright story?
Do you, Bill Clinton think they overreacted? Her comment didn't get nearly as much publicity!! It well could have, hearing that she keeps making misstatements on a weekly basis without finding out the facts first. Then blowing her own events out of proportion. She stated that "I made 1 mistake in 12 years" Not true Hillary. Bill shoul really keep his mouth shut. He keeps putting his foot in it. Let her run her own campaign. Be glad people aren't bring up your infidelities @ this time on a basis other than questioning your daughter!!!
Was Sen Clinton trying to run your White House??
Pro for Obama!!

Ryan   April 11th, 2008 1:22 pm ET

Please! Bill is now outright lying about the situation! It wasn't one time late at night, it was several times over the course of the entire campaign. And she didn't immediately apologize, she didn't say anything about it until she was caught and then she still didn't even apologize. Man I'm losing respect for Bill Clinton pretty fast here.

Tyler in Raleigh, NC   April 11th, 2008 1:21 pm ET

I think Bill Clinton "mis-spoke" becuase he was "sleep-deprived" as well. Because Hillary did not LIE just ONCE, she said the story several times. She also did not correct herself immediately, she waited until the media called her on her LIE to say she "mis-spoke".

He basically just said she is too old, tired and confused to be trusted with remembering the truth. I guess the same applies to him back in the 90's when he wagged his finger at us and told us what he did and did not do.

If she is "sleep-deprived" at 11 PM while campaigning to be President, what will she do at 3 AM if she was President????? Mis-speak and have snipers take out upset Americans who lost their homes becaue she sent their job to Colombia and forced them to buy healthcare?

Kathy   April 11th, 2008 1:21 pm ET

How stupid is this? Seriously, for such a celebrated politician, you'd think Bill has more sense than this. This Bosnia "sniper fire" issue was totally over. CNN stopped reporting about it so badly that they had to resort to Obama saying "I'm not getting fresh or anything" articles.

Now this. He thrusted this blatant lie back into the spotlight, and on top of that, he lied about 5 times in his statement. Bill and Hillary are working together to get Obama the nomination, I swear. It's not even a fair fight anymore, they make themselves look like idiots.

Ex-president's wife or not, this is a ridiculous level of bull.

Just another proof of the Liars in the Clinton family.

Beside, what a great deal for American people, this Clinton family provides full service: one claims to be against free trade and the other pro. If you want somewhere in the middle, they can talk to your face about it too as long as you give them your vote!

Hillary is UNELECTABLE! The Clintons has NO CREDIBILITY. They are UNTRUSTWORTHY!

Kristina, Seattle   April 11th, 2008 1:19 pm ET

Oh please, how do you "misspeak" about SNIPER FIRE? That's like saying you found a bomb in your mailbox, when it was really a credit card offer.

Is this one incident akin to robbing a bank?? No of course not. But people are bothered because it points to a pattern of dishonesty, embellishment and the maniuplation of public opinion. Nobody likes a liar.

Republican turned Democrat   April 11th, 2008 1:19 pm ET

I believe she has been using that story for many months to years. I hope she is not that tired. I am "tired" of hearing her period. This is another way of the "high profile " husband making a comment on his delusional "Life of Riley" the Clinton's call reality. I for one am ready for change. Real change it will not be perfect but at least it will not have connections to the Clinton or Bush family.

DISGRACEFUL, I am ashamed for you

Just stop it already! We're not all dumb and uninformed! We can actually fact check your comments Bill and Hillary and find out that you are in fact lying. Hillary lied about being under sniper fire. It was proven she was not at all under any attack...unless now a small 8 year old girl with flowers is considered an attack...She did not misspeak...she lied...we've all lied...but we all aren't running for President of the United States and running on a platform of "experience"...I just hate it that we are being taken for stupid! This is the age of the internet and fact checking is so easy now...So please stop it already and give me a break!

MC, in MD   April 11th, 2008 1:18 pm ET

Having the American people believe that you literally risked your life, and exagerrating an incident over and over again is NOT a small thing. It's also insulting to the people who support you Hillary. I guess I'm more disappointed than anything because she didn't have to make stuff up.

She didnt say it once and then apologize, she said it over and over and over. Even after it came into question she was still talking about it at small stops on the campaign trail. It wasnt till the media made it bigger and the video came out that they came up with the idea that she only said it once, which is a lie, and she didnt really apologize, she said she misspoke from lack of sleep. These people are reading pre-written speeches, to think that she just says whatever is on the top of her head is ridiculous, leaves too much room for a huge mistake. Everything she says is calculated and preplanned. It could not have been lack of sleep considering these things.

As much as many folks feel that Obama is a strong candidate it is time to think about winning. Dragging this contest out, contrary to what some think, will not help our party or the final nominee. It will cause deeper and more severe wounds as the battle is more and more divisive.

As an Hillary supporter, I am going to attempt to refrain from pointing out Obama's weaknesses and start talking about the issues we care about most… the economy, heath care, Iraq, etc. As long as Obama hangs on with such a tiny chance of winning, we will be talking about snips and snipes; the Rev Wright, out of context quotes, Obama's latest contradiction, and other general non-productive points.

To truly get to contrasting what John McCain has to offer with the promise of great things from Democrats, we need to consolidate our efforts.

I hope that Pennsylvanians will take the opportunity the vote for Hillary so we can get on with the General and beat McCain in the Fall.

What kind of mother takes her child into a potentially life-threatening situation? I've had to protect my children by making them wear hats and mittens, but never a bulletproof flack jacket! She not only has poor judgement, but is without a conscience. OBAMA 08!

RJ   April 11th, 2008 1:17 pm ET

She lied. No excuse Bill.

MBFLA   April 11th, 2008 1:17 pm ET

I do not believe that Hillary Clinton misspoke. I believe she lied repeatedly and I'm guessing we know where she may have learned that skill. Look in the mirror, Bill.

Real Change   April 11th, 2008 1:17 pm ET

Oh and let me guess Bill...the media didn't cover the Rev. Wright flap enough.

Remember when the Republicans used to call CNN the "Clinton News Network?" The Clintons and their supporters now sound like a bunch of ridiculous Republican conspiracy theorists

Mike   April 11th, 2008 1:17 pm ET

ObamaSupporter from Washington, you beat me to what I wanted to say lol.

Carol, California   April 11th, 2008 1:17 pm ET

Are both Bill and Hillary completely insane? How can he make a statement like this and think people are going to believe it? I take that statement as in insult to the intelligence of the voters. WE SAW THE TAPES, BILL she flat out lied (more than once )then tried to laugh it off. When Bill was running there was no YouTube and everything else out there that captures the candidate's every move. OMG can you imagine the tapes there would be of Bill if that technology was around back then? Yikes!

When this nominating process began so early, I thought it was a bad idea for it to drag on for so long but I was wrong. The longer these people are out there, the more we get to see their true colors. I've seen many bloggers who said they voted for Hillary in the early primaries but would not have voted for her if they knew then what they know now.

Obama has stayed consistent while Bill and Hillary have lost all touch with reality. I hope he not only wins Pennsylvania, I hope he CRUSHES her.

Can't wait to see her concession speech when she drops out. Let's see the smirk, Hill. And don't forget the swagger and the smug, arrogant attitude too. And then, of course, laugh it off, it's only people's lives were talking about here.

Rhonda   April 11th, 2008 1:17 pm ET

Bill Clinton cannot remember intimate encounters with an intern and Hillary "vividly" remembers events that never happened. Then she goes on late night tv and jokes about it. What a complete slap in the face to all the soldiers who face sniper fire every day.

The Clinton's are liars. I don't want a President who can remember events that never happened.

Bdiddy   April 11th, 2008 1:16 pm ET

Yeah Bill that's exactly what we want the President of the Free world to be... old and forgetful. What Outstanding qualifications she posseses to be President.

I can't believe I admired the Clintons as master politicians, their campaign is by far the most unorganized, disfunctional campaign I've seen at this level in years. What's sad is if it weren't for Obama, She would be all the Dems had....

Incredible...

Go Obama!!!!

Talk about DILUSIONS   April 11th, 2008 1:16 pm ET

Did you SEE that. Bill Clinton just told us that Christmas comes in JULY and we are supposed to believe him because he is such a down homey guy.

WOW is all I can say. How can a person do that with a straight face??

An Agnostic Democrat   April 11th, 2008 1:16 pm ET

It wasn't just one time either, Slick Willy. Your lyin' offspring continued to tell the harrowing tale for days after it was disputed. To the Clintons, lying is the equivalent of breathing. No wonder they all believe each other and travel in a pack like wolves and predators.

Billy   April 11th, 2008 1:15 pm ET

Re April in Texas: Amen!

This was originally reported in Ohio before that primary, but the national media waited until March to pick up on it.

Michael Lorton, Virginia   April 11th, 2008 1:15 pm ET

I can see form the number of responses being posted that it would appear that no one seems to care any more about what Bill or Hillary has to say.......everything they both say is rheortic......and rheortic becomes old news everytime it repeats itself.

Marc   April 11th, 2008 1:15 pm ET

Take it easy on Hillary. So what she tells a few white lies every day. About three times a day. Lets talk about the 800,000 dollars Bill recieved from Bogata and then talking Penn into having his business lobby congress for a free-trade deal. Answer that Bill.

Look byond   April 11th, 2008 1:15 pm ET

Bill, I think you should give Obama some credit.

He is running against three people in this race, YOURSELF, HILARY AND YOUR DAUGHTER CHELSEA.

WOW, he must be too strong to withstand the pressure.

I guess Obama is already grounded and ready to be the commander-in-chief.

Seriously, Bill..."one time late at night when she was exhausted, misstated and immediately apologized for it, what happened to her in Bosnia"? Puuuleeze! She said it in recently in several speeches (three, I think it was), and it was printed in her book!! You two must think the American public is ignorant! Most of us aren't, believe it or not. There is no way either of you can spin this one. The jig is up...if some of us weren't sure about Hillary before, we darn sure are now. She's a liar, and you're a liar. Period.

Mike from Westchester   April 11th, 2008 1:14 pm ET

President Clinton: #1 – It was at least three times. #2 – At least one was in the morning. #3 – She did not apologize for days. #4 – She said she "misspoke" when it was an obvious deliberate fabrication. #5 – There is now a clear pattern of deception.

You guys have been reduced to lying about lying. Can we next expect Hillary to come out and mischaracterize your lie about her lie?

The only thing that will come of the next 3 – 8 weeks of campaigning is the complete soiling of the Clinton legacy. I used to have great respect for President C and a generally positive opinion of Senator C. Now, I have very high regard for Senator Obama, but only a little respect for Bill and none for Hillary.

I am from New York and I now do not believe I can continue to support her as Senator (I voted for her). It's a sad way to end two political careers.

LJ Blue   April 11th, 2008 1:14 pm ET

Interestingly they closed to comment section on "Obama: I would have fired Mark Penn". I guess they figured it was wasted story since Hillary can't fire Bill.
Days after Hillary Clinton removed her chief strategist for taking $300,000 from Colombia’s government to promote a controversial trade pact she opposes, her husband the former president gets exposed for taking nearly $1 million from a Bogota group pushing for the same pact. Longtime Clinton friend and confidante Mark Penn was demoted from his prominent position after it was disclosed that he met with Colombian government officials to help promote a trade pact among U.S. lawmakers that is fiercely opposed by labor unions and the former First Lady. (It must be ok for the HUBBY because in benefits the Clinton's bank accounts.) Penn had steered Bill’s reelection campaign in 1996 and went on to become a top pollster and campaign message guru for Hillary’s 2000 Senate run.

YOU NEED TO KNOW   April 11th, 2008 1:14 pm ET

Hillary didn't have to rob a bank...and yes this is more important as it speaks to her CHARACTER.

It was a flat out Lie and she told it several times. You can only misspeak once, but you can lie over and over and over again.

Hold Hillary accountable for what comes out of HER mouth.

Bryant   April 11th, 2008 1:14 pm ET

We all misremember things...the name of that person we met at the party, what we had for dinner last week...but sniper fire? I think if my life was actually in danger, I'd have NO problem remembering the details of that event.

Moreover, the sniper fire never even took place! How do you "misremember" an event that never happened? You don't...it's a fabrication, and Ms. Clinton got caught.

If this was the only time, it could be more easily forgiven, but this is part of an overall pattern of lies and exaggerations intended to make her look more "experienced" than Obama. Luckily most people who haven't drank the Hillary Kool-Aid are seeing that.

if lack of sleep is the reason she "misspoke"

not just once, but several times over the course of several days as news footage shows (unlike what bill claims in his remarks above)

and if 11p.m. is such a late hour, What on earth will she do at 3a.m. when there is a REAL crisis in the world ?? -one that may be ongoing and causing her to lose sleep for nights on end

seems to me that the most reasonable interpretation of what happened is that she LIED. -for personal gain and at the expense of 4,000 soldiers who have now died in the war she authorized george bush to wage

the clintons are sick

Bill   April 11th, 2008 1:13 pm ET

The bigger question is: Did Hillary ever have an experience such as she attributed to Bosnia? Was she ever under the threat of hostile fire? If so, when and where? If not, it truly is a totally self manufactured story such as others to say anything to win votes.

"Keeping it real"   April 11th, 2008 1:12 pm ET

If it were not so sad it'd be funny. To think that one of the biggest proven liars to ever set foot on the national political stage would have the nerve to go before people knowing that what he said would get national coverage and lie to try and cover a repeated lie is simply beyond rationale. As I've said before it's time to stop this insanity.

My, my Bill. She made a mistake late at night? (noon) Anyone can misspeak? (oh, yes, I recall speaking to space aliens.) She only said it once? (try several times.) It's because she's 60 and it's 11 pm? (oops, what if it had been 3am?)

I've always been against NAFTA? (Goodness, I am just getting more confused.)

Kevin   April 11th, 2008 1:08 pm ET

Yeah, Bill knows a thing or two about "misspeaking."

And again saying that it happened because she was sleepy? What happened to her being able to make wise choices at 3am?

I'm glad this continues to be laughable for the Clintons. I'm sure that will help them win votes from people who have actually been shot at...on a daily basis...in defense of the country...many of whom have been killed. Pretty funny!

Blown out of proportion? I don't think so, Bill.

miss belief   April 11th, 2008 1:08 pm ET

she mispoke this same story a number of times. was she sleep deprived all the time? her version of reality does not line up with facts on this and on basically everything else she uses to promote herself.

Holly in Scranton PA   April 11th, 2008 1:08 pm ET

She has officially lost my vote. One lie after another, when does it stop. As a Clinton supporter, I cannot in good faith cast my vote for the Clinton's who are hell bent of unestimating the intelligence of the American people.

Charlie   April 11th, 2008 1:08 pm ET

She didn't misspeak once, Bill...she repeated her lie on four separate occasions. Nor did she immediately apologize; she waited until she was caught in her lie. We've had a liar in the White House for the past eight years and I've had enough of it. Sorry Hillary, you're just more of the same.

Mike, Iowa   April 11th, 2008 1:08 pm ET

OVERREACTED, MY FOOT! She didn't just spout this stuff once, but on NUMEROUS occasions! It's no overreaction to point out somebody's repeated lies.

Tell Hillary to take a nap before she gets those phone calls about foreclosures; who knows *what* she'll say!

Anna, SW Missouri   April 11th, 2008 1:08 pm ET

When you compare the Bosnia Trip screw up to Iraq and the works and stories and lies of Rumsfeld and Cheney, YES INDEED, Bill is right... media overreacted to the story. Bosnia lie was equal to a drop of water in the ocean... ocean being the lies of the two mentioned above when you measure the consequential damage to our nation.

JA Cook   April 11th, 2008 1:07 pm ET

Ha, Ha, Ha... a repeated lie to exaggerate experience.

Kathleen   April 11th, 2008 1:06 pm ET

It's really sad how the Clintons seem to take voters for granted. They think voters are very naive. and will believe everything they say because after all, they are the Clintons. This is a huge mistake.

JJT   April 11th, 2008 1:06 pm ET

I actually think Bill hits the nail on the head here. Anyone who is in their older years seems to have no problem stretching the truth where it benefits their goals. These are people who have convinced themselves their versions of reality are right because they have been speaking the same points of view for so long.

This is the trade off for 'experience'. Hillary is experienced in telling the same exagerations over time. She is experienced at having affiliations with other experienced people. Experience, experience, experience...

I'd like to experience something fresh that hasn't been wrapped in mis-truths and surrounded by old blood for decades...

True Independent, MD   April 11th, 2008 1:06 pm ET

Mark, MI   April 11th, 2008 1:06 pm ET

If she is too tired at this point to remember something that happened in her life, then how can we trust her not to be too tired for the next four years running our country.... I'm a Clinton supporter because I do not like or trust Obama and am a democrat... but I am beginning to see no other option other than John McCain... I need a president I can trust, not just one I can agree with.

Garrett from MD   April 11th, 2008 1:06 pm ET

I also find it incredibly hard to believe... it's not an exaggeration or a misstatement when you invent a story about snipers and stuff like that. It's delusion. Go anybody but Hillary.

True Independent, MD   April 11th, 2008 1:06 pm ET

If she tells a lie at 11p.m. because she is tired, what will be her reaction at 3 a.m. when she has to answer the phone?

I really would like someone to intelligently articulate my why i should vote for Sen Clinton?

I did not vote for Mr. Clinton in '92 or '96 because he was/is a liar. I will not vote for Mrs. Clinton in '08 because she is a liar. I am from a southern state and it was common knowledge in the 90's that the Clintons were liars. It was common knowledge that the Clintons were sleazy, shady-dealing, win-at-all-cost politicians. Nothing has changed. I will never ever vote for them. Ever.

Madalynn   April 11th, 2008 1:05 pm ET

Yes I will be laughing at all of you all the way to the bread line when Obama gets elected. Half of the population wil be looking back and saying I told you so. His lack of experience is apparent. 1 year? Sorry that does not cut it. We need experience-not someone who worships a man that bashes the United states. Not someone whose wife "finally" appreciates our United States. Open your eyes people.

Hilary, go ahead and be tired, you are human!

GO HILARY 2008!!!

Overreaction? I guess anytime a Clinton gets caught in a lie or a crime, it's an "overreaction". She's running for the highest office in the land – does Bill think that we should all be so jaded with politicians that we accept flat-out lying as alright? He's getting as delusional as his wife.

Angry Pennsylvania Voter   April 11th, 2008 1:04 pm ET

I'm sorry, I just overreacted. Why would I care that a politician running for President lied to my face, right?

Totally get what Bill is saying here. Politicians just have the right to lie right to our faces. After all, were just the people. Why do we matter?

Rand Sether   April 11th, 2008 1:04 pm ET

It is no suprise that Bill thinks lying is no big deal.......he is good at it.

Xavier of Saint Louis, MO   April 11th, 2008 1:04 pm ET

Oh please! He's lying for Hillary just like Chelsea lied for her. And, his statement here is also a lie. . . . Lying must be a Clinton thing.

Pam   April 11th, 2008 1:04 pm ET

Let's all admit it! Bill Clinton is just excellent at the old style politics, unfortunately, what he and his wife don't understand is that is exactly what the voters DO NOT want.

As a people, we must not look to race OR gender when voting. We desparately need to restore our credability in the world and we cannot do that with the "old style" of politics.

It is just that simple!!

Mike - WA   April 11th, 2008 1:03 pm ET

Mentally-ill Bill is at it again. Aren't the Clintons wonderful! I think we can live without them in the White House.

hk in Cleveland   April 11th, 2008 1:03 pm ET

I believe Bill and I'm sure most Americans do. He's the most successful President we ever had – wthout question he is the greatest.

Steve from Austin, TX   April 11th, 2008 1:02 pm ET

Guess she must have been tired on all three days she spoke about the event. I would like to know what incident she confused it with because nobody would forget sniper fire. This is related to her campaign since integrity is a pretty important characteristic of a president.

Chelsea stood by her mother’s comment even though she knew it was not true. I guess they are teaching her the Clinton way of manufacturing the truth. This sense of entitlement is nauseating.

Let’s all Chill Out as Bill suggested. We’ll let the other states vote, Obama will win all categories and we’ll see what Hillary has up her sleeve to rip the party apart.

It scares me to think I started this primary season supporting Hillary. No one is above the truth.

Steve

richj   April 11th, 2008 1:01 pm ET

You Obamanuts are REALLY disrespectful people. How can you expect to have a united party with the filth spewed from your computers. Your disrespect ONLY sevrves to strenghten our resolve to support Hillary AND Bill to make sure the most qualified person and a lover of this nation and it's people gets to the white house.
I know most of the venom in these blogs are coming from immature thugs(i.e. college students) that LIVING ON MOMMY AND DADDY'S DIME and have no clue what the real world is like and less of a clue how to solve them. For them this is "American Idol". For the rest of us that have to pay bills, it's deadly serious and it's going to take serious person to solve them not an "American Idol".
Besides , looking at the rhetoric on these blogs(cnn-Obamas network) and the hate that is in them one would think that your candidates campaign is one of hate rather than change. We've had enough of hate for the last eight years.

DeniseGa   April 11th, 2008 1:01 pm ET

Politico pointed out on a republican blog, the lies Bill told while defending the lie, Hillary told:

(1) Her most glaringly wrong telling of the tale, on March 17, 2008, was in the morning.
(2) She actually told versions of the story several times. (And none was at night.)
(3) In an e-mail to journalist Eric Jansson, former acting Bosnian president Ejup Ganic said "we didn't expect snipers," though, "we still believed that some positions on the hills were occupied by radical Serbs, so I was worried about the overall safety."
(4) Not according to the pilot Colonel William "Goose" Changose (Ret.), who said, "nobody under my watch has ever directed anyone to sit on their flak jackets. ... We do not direct people to sit on their flak jackets."
(5) It wasn't immediate at all - it was 11 days later, first in an editorial board meeting with the Philadelphia Inquirer/Philadelphia Daily News, then later in a press availability.
(6) She never apologized.
(7) It was 1996, not 1995.
(8) He qualified it with "I think," but then-first lady Pat Nixon went to a combat zone in Saigon, Vietnam, in July 1969.

David   April 11th, 2008 1:00 pm ET

Mr. Clinton,

Would you like to correct your mis-statement? You see your wife told the same story on multiple occasions ... not just once when she "was tired".

Maria Pesantez   April 11th, 2008 1:00 pm ET

To the "Obama supporter". It is really a dilemma for us the voters since we suspect that Mr. Obama will also be exhausted at 11.00 pm tired of hearing his own "fantastic speaches" and figuring out what exactly he meant by "change" and how he will achieve it? Plus ( I know I am bias) but there is a bigger probability that a mom/women will be exhausted but yet alert to answer the phone even at 3am if it is needed....

From PA   April 11th, 2008 12:59 pm ET

obama is the devil in disguise

Its True   April 11th, 2008 12:59 pm ET

"And some of them when they're 60 they'll forget something when they're tired at 11 at night, too."

You mean forget it over and over again. I believe it was four times. Do we want a president with memory lapse? Is former president Clinton suggesting that his wife is too old to be President? Nice try.

Snafu   April 11th, 2008 12:59 pm ET

It would be a "misspeak" if she said it once but she said 3 or 4 more times. Billary Clan needs to go away. They are a bunch of pathetic Jerry Springer wannabe. They lie and lie and then lie when they get caught in a lie. And you people want these dysfunctional imorons in the WH? Wow says alot about America! You mean there is no one else in this whole country beside BUSH/CLINTON/BUSH/CLINTON? Wow, you folks are truly misguided. Turn the tables and drop this bimbo and he pimp husband.

andrea, Illinois   April 11th, 2008 12:59 pm ET

He would have better been quiet....

- Hillary told the story about 3 times
- Hillary told the story in the morning (was she on medication, did she not sleep enough, or what else was the problem)
- Her story is so incredible different from the reality, that you really can't call it "misspeaking". It is what it is: A BIG FAT LIE!!!!

Now Bill trying to explain it, makes it even worse. How shall we believe in her 3am ads and her argument of being ready on day one? If she misspeaks already in the morning, because she didn't get enough sleep, how can she react to a critical phone call at 3am?

This is one big hole, that's getting bigger and bigger every day!
Too bad, nobody will believe the Clintons anymore, they are destroying themselves and what's left from the respect the American people once had for Bill! It's a shame!

Sharon, Seattle   April 11th, 2008 12:59 pm ET

I might have bought the tired excuse if she only "mis-spoke" once but she made the statement at least three separate times.

He must be tired too and can't keep HIS stories straight.

dbacchus   April 11th, 2008 12:59 pm ET

Excellent link, TR. Thanks!

Go Obama!   April 11th, 2008 12:59 pm ET

This makes no sense, Bill! If Bosnia were as dangerous as you claim, you would have never sent your daughter! We all know Hillary and Chelsea went on vacation to Bosnia with a comedian and a singer! Stop covering up lies with more lies! It just makes you a bigger liar!

Michael   April 11th, 2008 12:59 pm ET

Wow Bill, I think you have lost it. First off, your wife did answer the question at 11 am. It was 9 am. And it wasn't just once, it was several times. It was not 95' but 96'. Your wife was no the first lady to go into a combat zone since FDR wife, its was Nixons wife. What don't understand is don't you haves aids working for you Bill? All last week they were talking how it was Nixon's wife not Hillary. Why are you even bringing this up now?It was dying down. My God please stop you are hurting her campaign. Oh wait.....don't stop you are doing a great job.

st louis typicl whte male   April 11th, 2008 12:59 pm ET

It's very difficult to straddle your convictions with keeping others happy to gain support. Why do you Obama supporters think Obama gives ambiguous answers to questions and his positions? He ansers tough questions through drafted speeches which I doubt he writes himself. He wants everyone to vote for him and you are foolish to not see this.

I admire Hillary and respect that fact that she thinks through methods to make things happen and not just calls on change with hope.

No politician is clean of any dirt and skeletons.... that is why those who could be good at it won't ever run.

2sense   April 11th, 2008 12:59 pm ET

It all depends on your definition of "sniper fire."

lt   April 11th, 2008 12:58 pm ET

Right, except she repeated it multiple times and was clearly using it to pad her foreign experience resume. The media and the people are right to be disturbed by that.

BTW Bill, you might want to get your facts straight.... she never told the story at night, and the "incident" occured in 1996 not '95.

Rick in Florida   April 11th, 2008 12:58 pm ET

SHE LIES, YOU LIE, YOUR BAG-MEN LIE.......JUST GO AWAY.

Mark   April 11th, 2008 12:58 pm ET

It's not like she said it once and then took it back. She said it REPEATEDLY for weeks. She was refuted on several occasions and ignored it as well. That is why she received scrutiny. Bill is exaggerating again. I'm surprised he didn't blame Obama.

Tony   April 11th, 2008 12:58 pm ET

Liar Liar, pants on fire!!!!!!!!!!!!

pbj   April 11th, 2008 12:58 pm ET

If she "misspoke" because it was late at night and she was exhausted, it kinda makes you wonder whether you want her fielding a call about a national security crisis at 3:00 a.m. in the morning. Don't want her waking up the next morning saying, "Did I say bomb them immediately? I'm sorry, I was really tired at the time and that's not what I meant to say."

Obama/Edward   April 11th, 2008 12:57 pm ET

You means this is small lie as compared to "I have no sex with this woman". You and your wife has 109 million go and enjoy life and stop lying to people.

GARY   April 11th, 2008 12:57 pm ET

BILL, I VOTED FOR YOU TWICE BUT NOW I AM VERY DISAPOINTED IN THE WAY YOU AND HILLARY HAVE ACTED SINCE IOWA. PLEASE STOP NOW!!!

Chris   April 11th, 2008 12:57 pm ET

If she "misspeaks" when she's "exhausted" she better give it up right now. And on her way out give up her Senate seat. I haven't seen one thing improve up where I live in NY. Must be that exhaustion that caused her to misspeak about caring too much too.

Mary - PA   April 11th, 2008 12:57 pm ET

Oh my gosh! Would these Clintons just please shut up! I am so tired of hearing their misspeaks and excuses! Hillary, you and hubby Bill can't get facts straight, you refuse to answer legitimate questions and try to laugh them off, you can't seem to run the finances of your campaign, how in the world do you expect us to believe you are ready on day one to run our country....run it into the ground maybe! Please just go enjoy your millions and fall into obscurity so that we can stop hearing your nonsense every day!

Frank (Cleveland, Ohio)   April 11th, 2008 12:57 pm ET

If she is so tired at 11am..how can she claim that she is the only Demcrat ready for an international crisis at 3am?

smokesignals   April 11th, 2008 12:57 pm ET

Nah, she didn't rob a bank. She just lied. Several times.
Does Bill really think we are that stupid?

Alex H   April 11th, 2008 12:57 pm ET

TR – Nice find with that video. Makes Clinton look like a liar and shows how presidential Obama really is.

Roger   April 11th, 2008 12:57 pm ET

You had not say anything more, Bill. Look what happened to you, and the integrity of the White House, when you lied to the nation and to Hillary. How many more lies are the two of you hiding?

Ken Austin, TX   April 11th, 2008 12:57 pm ET

Just like you and Hillary created the over blown story of Barack plagiarizing Gov. Deval Patrick's speech???

Ehsanul Haque   April 11th, 2008 12:57 pm ET

That's right People forget things at 11 pm when they are tired. Does a President forget too? Then what about 3-00 am call? Will a tired President pickup that call when tired and in deep sleep?
There is difference between misspeak and lie. Two have different meanings.
Ehsanul

Mark, Berwyn PA   April 11th, 2008 12:56 pm ET

Of course Bill thinks everyone overreacted; he is a born liar and must feel that lying is just fine. So his wife lied? No one should care because lying is OK. Right Bill?

Bee   April 11th, 2008 12:56 pm ET

The media has really been against Hillary. you see they even had the got to acclaim her the Favourite before Super Teusday.

D Williams   April 11th, 2008 12:56 pm ET

Hillary, are the 'men' beating up on you again?

They are forcing you to tell those lies.

It's not your fault – it never is.

It's those bad old men again.

ILoveAmerica   April 11th, 2008 12:56 pm ET

So now Bill Clinton is saying that Hillary just "forgot something" when she claimed to have run through an airport with her head down straight to a vehicle? Sorry, but this is not just a matter of Hillary merely "forgetting something." She knew very well that what she was describing had never happened. Hillary was not just forgetting something, she was fabricating a whole story.

Godwin   April 11th, 2008 12:56 pm ET

Everything seems to be amusing to the Clintons. Sometimes I think they need to be looking for clown job. Bill said, "Hillary, one time late at night when she was exhausted, misstated and immediately apologized for it". If she misstate everytime she's exhausted, am sorry she can't be the President of the USA. This is the most energy sapping job in the whole world. And when did they change the definition of lying to misspoke, and now, misstate??

Reality Check   April 11th, 2008 12:56 pm ET

"If she's so exhausted at 11:00pm, how can we trust her to answer the phone at 3am?"...I love it!!!

However, with Obama's lack of experience at the national level, do we want him to answer the phone at anytime during the day? I agree that we need change in DC. Obviously, there is always room for improvement there, but we need someone with the knowledge and experience at that level to make the change that is needed, not just make change for the sake of making change. It doesn't take much skill to be a bull in a china shop.

lacey   April 11th, 2008 12:56 pm ET

Hillary stating that she was the first First Lady to visit a war zone since Eleanor Roosevelt could be considered an honest mistake. Pat Nixon had traveled to Viet Nam and/or Cambodia with her husband, but that is a fact that many people would not know or would have forgotten, so that's not a deliberate fabrication.

However, the rest of the Bosnia story was an outright lie. Hillary didn't tell the story ONCE late at night while exhausted, she told it several times, many weeks apart.

No one, unless he or she had suffered trauma-induced amnesia, would forget running for cover under sniper fire. As Carl Bernstein said, Hillary Clinton has difficulty telling the truth. That's not a desirable quality for a president.

truth be told   April 11th, 2008 12:55 pm ET

The problem Bill is that she didn't only say it once...
You should move on to better things then talking about this once more. It's a mistake on your part. Another one!

al snyder   April 11th, 2008 12:55 pm ET

If those were the conditions, how could they possible contrive to send their daughter in under those conditions? Hillary was upset when suggested they were using (pimping) their daughter, but didn't have a problem sending her in "under sniper fire". I am not sure which is worse "misspeaking" (obviously being cuaght in a lie) or the unneeded recklessness of putting a child into mortal danger, if those were to have been the conditions. Either way, they don't show very good judgement, to say the least.

I have no problem with people defending their candidates, but some actions are undefendable and to do so with any kind of reasoning is absurd.

Anne   April 11th, 2008 12:55 pm ET

I'm 64 and...darn, I'd remember whether or not I ever ducked sniper fire.

Bill, you must think we are all idiots.

Angelo   April 11th, 2008 12:55 pm ET

So we are supposed to believe that Bill, the liar, that the other liar, Hillary, did not lie?
We have it on video Bill.
Remember, this is like when you said you didn’t have sexual relations with that women but then we had proof that you did?
Hillary’s and her camp had lied about Bosnia for 3 months!!! Even when Sinbad said that it was not dangerous and the only time there was a 3am type decision it was to discuss where they would go eat next.
Hillary and her camp said that Sinbad was incorrect and they continued to lie about Bosnia. They thought, well, its Sinbad’s word against Hillary’s.
Now we know that this was a lie all along………a 3 month long LIE
The thing is Bill & Hillary will continue to lie to America every chance they get. Bill & Hillary think that Americans are dumb.

Where's Barack's apology for his misstatements about his racist anti-American pastor? "I never heard him, umm, wait, I guess I did....."

No apology, instead Barack makes a speech justifying his bigotry, and all the Obamabots and CNN praise him for it.

For that matter, where's his apology for stealing my vote by hiring lawyers to block Florida and Michigan from a revote?

I love the way all the Obamabots and CNN keep saying, "Oh, the Democratic Party will come solidly together once we crown Barack the nominee. Just wait and see."

I hate to break it to you, but Obama is unelectable in November. Everyone I talk to says there is no way they will ever vote for him as President – they will vote for McCain if Hillary is not the nominee, and a lot of those same people were for Barack originally.

He might win the Democratic battle, but he will definitely lose the GE war.

Peg   April 11th, 2008 12:53 pm ET

Why would you bring the whole thing up again, Bill. Just to show us that you both can continue to lie and lie and lie......you even had the time wrong as she first made this inaccurate statement about Bosnia in the morning hours.....not at 11 pm.

Sorry, I voted for you twice, but would not vote for you or your wife again. You've had your time in the White House and now it is really time for change. Obama isn't perfect but, too many character flaws have come to light during this election about both you and your wife. Thanks for all the great things you did in the 90's.......but we don't need all your negatives again.

Please bow out gracefully, Hillary. Thank you.

David, Santa Maria, CA   April 11th, 2008 12:53 pm ET

Wait a minute, I think Bill forgot that she had mentioned this sniper fire story mutliple times, not just whe she was "exhausted".

And we are to believe Wesley Clark at what he says? More Clinton spin, andpeople wonder why politicians are so despised now?

SueB   April 11th, 2008 12:53 pm ET

Bill said "She's 60 years old, she was tired, it was 11 o'clock at night. She mis-spoke" So, she thought she was under attack by snipers in Bosnia, Bill?!? That bodes well for a possible commander-in-chief!! But, now I understand–Cheney was tired, it was 11 o'clock at night, he could have sworn there were WMD! He called Bush and...whoosh, we're in Iraq.

Ex-Hillary supporter   April 11th, 2008 12:53 pm ET

The Clintons seem unable to use the word "lie". Bill talks about his wife's "misstatement", she lied to us. Her sniper dodging story was a fairy tale. Their arrogance and dishonesty has pervaded their campaign, it will be a sad day for the Democratic Party should they succeed in stealing the nomination.

candi   April 11th, 2008 12:53 pm ET

Dear Bill Clinton:

I am over 60 and so is my husband who experienced fire during Viet Nam. He too is over 60. He has never forgotten the facts surronding the times he was shot at. Neither of us have senior moments after 11:00 p.m.. So I must say to you and your wife we will not forget your lies and those of your wife. We will not forget your insults and clearly will not forget to vote for someone else.

Tex   April 11th, 2008 12:52 pm ET

Bill, I can feel your pain, but what a clown you are you. We all knew you were a liar, but we now we find out what a liar Hillary is as well.

She has lied about Bosnia, Penn's firing and so forth and then you top the cake trying to make it sound like she "simply got confused (probably at 3:00 AM)" about those snipers shooting at her and she and Chelsea running on the tarmac for their very lives. But Bill we have all see on TV across the country Hillary "misspeaking" on three separate occasions and it was at 3:00 PM or late at night.. Hillary just bald faced lied just as you are doing now.

May   April 11th, 2008 12:52 pm ET

Heh Bill, Hillary narrated this Bosnia tale more than once! I think on 3 separate occasions. And she only sort of apologised when she was caught!

Peter   April 11th, 2008 12:52 pm ET

Well she told the Bosnia-LIE several times. I guess she is exhausted often, how can she handle 3AM calls if she gets exhausted all the time?

PKS   April 11th, 2008 12:52 pm ET

His explanation would have been believeable had she only made the sniper fire claim once instead of several times!!!

He seems too whine a lot these days. The media just should not cover Bill or Chelsea at all.

phillydog   April 11th, 2008 12:52 pm ET

What is wrong with these people?

max   April 11th, 2008 12:51 pm ET

Why do people want 4 more years of this double-talk? Chelsea was with her at the time...you'd think someone would remember if their daughter was with them in sniper fire.

Cammi317   April 11th, 2008 12:51 pm ET

No one else needs to say or do anything against Hillary, because between her lies, Bill less than helpful tyrates and comments and her advisors contradictory actions ….the campaign is sabatoging itself. This is too funny!

JFK   April 11th, 2008 12:51 pm ET

As usual there will be all the HATE Bloggers posting as soon as they see Clinton. Apparently people have little other to do than post hateful comments.

Judy   April 11th, 2008 12:50 pm ET

are you KIDDING me? I'm looking at every...single...story....on...today...There's everything negative about Hillary and positive for Obama. And the negative is nothing wrong but you guys have certainly SPUN it to look bad. I'm sure if the same thing happened to Obama you would say that he's strong, etc.

Sarah L, Fayetteville, AR   April 11th, 2008 12:50 pm ET

That's funny. I believe Hillary told the same story several times and didn't apologize for it until she got caught "misstating" the truth by Sinbad.

Bev   April 11th, 2008 12:50 pm ET

They have overreacted to everything the Clintons say or do. Its become quite clear that Obama is the medias favorite darling. It's quite clear that the Clintons do not get any fair coverage and Obama can never do wrong.

Claire, Austin, TX   April 11th, 2008 12:49 pm ET

One lie when she was tired? She said it OVER and OVER again. God just admit it. More lies does not equal truth.

I am SO sick of your family. Stay away from our White House.

Once Supporter   April 11th, 2008 12:49 pm ET

I was a supporter of Hillary at one point but now I can no longer support her. She makes "misstatements" all the time and expects us to be stupid enough to believe it. Bad memory is one thing but to say that you were being shot at when you weren't....that's hard to be mistaken about!

Chris   April 11th, 2008 12:49 pm ET

So Hillary wasn't misspeaking when she said the same thing back in Iowa before their caucus? Or was that also a misspeak? Was she just tired then too?

Marcie   April 11th, 2008 12:48 pm ET

She "misstated" about five times!!!!

Smedley Butler   April 11th, 2008 12:48 pm ET

Disgraceful conduct by both of these feeders at the public trough.
Obama may be worse, however.

Rick from NJ   April 11th, 2008 12:48 pm ET

President Clinton is right. So she walked instead of ran to her van.
She still was in Bosinia
She still visited a company that was recently at war.
She was problably told that there were still dangers in the area.
She was just trying to demonstrate that she traveled to other countries in times of war.

This is rediculous.

Bangus 1er   April 11th, 2008 12:48 pm ET

This issue should be burried by the Clintons.Reviving it, is gonna hurt them big time.
First , Bill, we're not stupid.
She stated THIS fact not once , but on SEVERAL other occasions.
She stated it last , around 9 a.m. and not 11p.m.
Second, the first 1st Lady to go into a war zone , was NOT Hillary , but Nixon's wife.
I saw the comments on TV , and it is just sad that you were smiling while MISstating the facts

Now that I think about it , your job is to make sure that she's not elected. This way , you could brag about being the only one in the family that got elected.

OBAMA 08

woogie   April 11th, 2008 12:47 pm ET

I seem to remember that the speech was given in the morning., and that it was available to the press prior to it being given. So I guess it is a mis-type as well as a mis-speak. I also remember that she mis-spoke more than once on the issue.

Lies about lies. Over and over.

David Brown   April 11th, 2008 12:47 pm ET

This isn't about forgetting what you ate the week before, or what you wore yesterday. A person doesn't easily forget about being shot at! And it wasn't just forgetting something at 11:00 pm. She mentioned this more than once in campaign speeches. You can hardly blame the media for speaking out about something as important as this, which speakes to the character of someone running for such a high office as the president of the country. Where's the integrity??

Tom   April 11th, 2008 12:47 pm ET

A misspeak is when you say something like “it was overcast that day” but in reality it was sunny. Or “there were 1000 people there” when there was only 100. Exagerating that you clearly remember running from the plane to the cars because of sniper fire, just to make yourself look more impressive, THAT is a lie. I am offended that she actually went on a nighttime talk show and made a joke of it. Basically saying “I got caught in a lie, isn’t that funny”. NO it’s not funny! The tired at 11 at night doesn’t work either since it’s not the first time she has told that story. She is a liar and will do or say anything to get elected regardless of the fact that she is tearing down the lead the democrats had over the republican candidate before this protracted battle for the democratic nomination. It’s time for her to step aside and let the election battle focus on the real opponent, McCain! For the good of the party and the good of the nation!

HSD-NYC   April 11th, 2008 12:47 pm ET

Thanks for the explanation, Bill. Unfortunately, this wasn't something that occured once after some lack of sleep.

Senator Clinton repeatedly delivered this story on no fewer than three occations. Each time she embellished on it a little more. She disputed Sinbad's original recollection. She even had daughter Chelsea "substantiate" her story.

This is more than a little lack of sleep, Bill. It's more like the never ending nightmare of the fabled Clintonian Forked Tongue syndrome!

Now what was that again? You never had sex with Monica Lewinski because you never "came"? Ops, now there's that inconvenient stain that showed up on a blue dress.

It appears that only an actual film of the event could get Senator Clinton to fess up to the truth – sound familiar?

Skip   April 11th, 2008 12:46 pm ET

Responding to the former president's comments, Clinton campaign spokesman Phil Singer said, "Senator Clinton appreciates her husband standing up for her, but this was her mistake and she takes responsibility for it."

So now the Hillary Clinton campaign has to distance itself from public comments made by . . . Bill Clinton?

Angus McDugan   April 11th, 2008 12:46 pm ET

And another thing... Don't down play what America thinks is important by saying tht the media is at fault. You are wrong Bill! The American people can think for themselves. How arrogant!

Azar   April 11th, 2008 12:46 pm ET

Why are the Clintons getting away with umpteen lies? Why isn’t the media challenging them more forcefully?

By letting the Clintons get away with blatant lies, the media is doing disservice to the American people.

Greg   April 11th, 2008 12:46 pm ET

Not at 11:00 at night and not just once but THREE times she told that story.

Moreover, when Chelsea was asked about her mother's version, she said she supported what her mother had said.

So sorry, Bill, unless the people you were addressing don't own televisions or don't have computer and internet access, they should call BS on you.

The days of being able to get away with lies atop lies are over.

Larry Buchas   April 11th, 2008 12:46 pm ET

Bill's a perpetual liar too. The evidence was captured on camera for everyone to see. Let's hope the voters noticed it.

Hey Bill, she said she was UNDER SNIPER FIRE! The media didn't overreact. Your camp has overexaggerated this in a repetitive campaign message.

Visionary   April 11th, 2008 12:45 pm ET

The reason why she is so tired. Is because she is up all night composing solutions for this country. Unlike Obama being so unexperienced and adored by the media. He has plenty of time to sleep.

was she tired when she dismissed the comic, Sinbads observations?
"Oh hes just a comedian". She couldnt talk down on people more if she tried.
In response to the article, Bank robbers actually do the same thing that she did when she was caught .LIE so thats a very appropriate statement from her husband.

Lin   April 11th, 2008 12:45 pm ET

well, Obama support can always find a way to criticize Hillary. It's hard to criticize Obama in the same way since he has not done as many as Hillary, neither did he take any stand.

Bill - Charlotte   April 11th, 2008 12:44 pm ET

Bill.... IT was 1995... not 1996

She told the story at least three times... not once

She told it each time at a rally... not 11:00pm

She and Eleanor were not the first into a war zone... Pat Nixon went to Vietnam

Finally, Bill, "I doubt you really "got tickled!" Furious, might be a better word. Just take a few days off and go back to Columbia; make a few more speeches. My guess is you'll find someone there that will believe this mess.

April in Texas   April 11th, 2008 12:44 pm ET

Bill do yourself, america and your wife a favor and "Chill Out" They reported it then you turn around and miss speak as well.. That doesnt look good as it was 1996 not 1995 and Hillary said it 3 times on different occasions not just once at 11 pm at night. Also she wasnt the next first lady to visit a war zone... Let me guess you both need sleep so please go take a nap before you come out and blame the media for reporting ummm news...

Mike the Independent from Ohio   April 11th, 2008 12:43 pm ET

Well said "Obama Supporter from Washington", do we really want a president that is going to be exausted at 11 and during a crisis may "misremember" something. What a joke, the Clintons are nothing more than liars and are shinning examples of what's wrong with America. Also, if she cares so much about poverty, why doesn't she use some of their 100 million they've earned over the past few years to support some charity's other than their own, because they would not get the tax breaks.

maynard   April 11th, 2008 12:43 pm ET

BILL YOU EVEN GOT THE YEAR WRONG.... THE CLINTONS ARE BATTING A 1000 NEITHER OF THEM CAN KEEP THE STORY OR GET THE STORY RIGHT.

Concerned Dem   April 11th, 2008 12:43 pm ET

What I'm curious to know was it another trip she was on and she got the trips mixed up or what, not. She captured my attention when she was telling the story and went on and on about how everything really occured. She told one of those type stories that make you say wow, girl really.....

Angel   April 11th, 2008 12:43 pm ET

Wow this campaign has made me see how the Clinton's lie...
Now I guess he is trying to repair his legacy ..........so people don't remember his wife's lies......and laugh....

1) Bill Misspoke about this Bosnia thing.....
2) Bosnia trip was in 1996 NOT 1995
3) Hillary makes this Bosnia statement thing 3 "Times"
4) Hillary did not speak at night BUT in the morning
4) She did not apologize for this immediately; it was after a week when the media picked up on it.

Him taking about it makes it seem as if this Bosnia thing hurt Hillary. He should have not brought this up......it was fading away.....

I used to love Bill Clinton and still do, however, this campaign is making me see him in a different light.....and I don't like it....

Olivia   April 11th, 2008 12:43 pm ET

Hillary has my total trust, 3am or 24 hrs a day.

Go to the article on this blog titled "I would have fired Mark Penn" by Obama. Now.....take a close look at the picture there of Obama.

THE EXPRESSION SPEAKS FOR ITSELF! THAT IS THE FACE OF SOMEONE ABOUT TO STICK IT TO SOMEONE, KNOWS HE'S DOING IT, AND IS TRYING TO LOOK INNOCENT. WE KNOW THAT LOOK!
WHO WOULD YOU TRUST?

Frank, Missouri   April 11th, 2008 12:43 pm ET

Fight lies with more lies ... I hope the media won't let that sit on them ! Call it as you see it and keep them honest – that's a lot of work with the Billaries !

Dale Wise   April 11th, 2008 12:43 pm ET

If she can't remember something like that at 11pm because she's too tired, then how the hell is she going to make intellgent decisions about a crisis at 3 am?

Karen in Cape Cod   April 11th, 2008 12:43 pm ET

Let this go...the way the press has with Obama's minister!

Ryan   April 11th, 2008 12:43 pm ET

I wonder how he would explain the fact the most recent time she made these comments it was the middle of the morning, not 11 at night.... and a misstatement is using the wrong word, or calling someone by the wrong name....being tired doesn't generally lead one to fabricate entire tales of danger and adventure....pathetic

Counting Down   April 11th, 2008 12:43 pm ET

I just wonder what would happen if Michelle Obama were trying to cover for her spouse if he were caught in a lie. The Clintons would be up in arms and talking about it non stop and their surrogates. I guess when you're a former president you have a license to say anything.

Kno   April 11th, 2008 12:43 pm ET

She didn't tell this story just once, she told it multiple times...including Feb. 29th in Waco, Texas in the middle of the daytime.

Search the net for "Clinton Told Sniper Fire Tale on Feb 29".

The Clintons are not honest people.

Eric-PA   April 11th, 2008 12:42 pm ET

I find it amazing that the media didn't play video of the fromer Secretary of the Army, Togo West, talking about the incident during a press conference with Hillary. He explains how he told Hillary there were reports of sniper fire and that he wanted her to run and duck due to the dangerous environment. Everything turned out just fine, although they did have to cut short a greeting ceremony. Some of the footage of her with celebrities was taken at later events. The most dangerous part of that mission was the landing. In summary, although there was no sniper fire directed at Hillary, there were reports of sniper fire in the area and they were told it could be a dangerous situation and to take the proper precautions in the event of danger. Lastly, the media didn't point out that Sinbad, the comedian who criticized Hillary's account of the event, has publicly announced his support for Obama, so there is likely some bias there.

Nowhere Man   April 11th, 2008 12:42 pm ET

Over-reacted to a lie? How dare we question the great Bill and Hillary Clinton? She lied, Bill. Not once about this, but many times. They are an arrogant and despicable couple.

Why don't you cover the multitude of lies BO states on the campaign trail....in his books....in interviews...... HMMM????

Willis Portland OR   April 11th, 2008 12:42 pm ET

bill your telling a lie to defend a lie. hilliary did tell the story THREE times, she even belittled Sinbad's accurate account in defending her "mistament" , and it wasn't until the vid was realesaed until she "corrected" her story. Are the clintons really this arrogant to think that the american public is this stupid, what are you doing bill? To all the clintons supporters left: Why do you want to vote for a canidate that thinks your i.q. is less then 80?

Cole Crankshaw   April 11th, 2008 12:42 pm ET

It's a good thing the stock market closes in the afternoon, otherwise I'd be worried she might have a slip of judgment during a 3 a.m. economic crisis.

Dee   April 11th, 2008 12:42 pm ET

Yeah, except for the fact that she first mentioned the Bosnia sniper story at a campaign stop in January, and continued to use it right up until she was caught at it. Even the comedian Sinbad, who was on the trip with her, spoke up earlier, saying, “I think the only ‘red phone’ moment was: Do we eat here or at the next place?”
So to say that it was a miss-speak, or a one-time accident, is just a lie.

Also, when WAS she ever dealing with sniper fire, that she could make that error and say it was in Bosnia??

Ruby in Seattle   April 11th, 2008 12:42 pm ET

Sounds like he's telling us she had a "senior moment." What else can be expected to be forgotten when you're 60?

d   April 11th, 2008 12:41 pm ET

The real problem here is that she lied, she knew she was lying, period!!!! When doesn't Hillary NOT LIE it seems. More and more lies developing every single day. Do we really WANT A LIER IN THE WHITE HOUSE????? And she and Obama are going to put on a discussion about morals and v alues??? Get real!!!!!!!!!! Neither deserves the White House in my humble opinion. We need NEW LEADERS, ones who have NOT been brought up through our corrupted political process.

T'Shaka   April 11th, 2008 12:41 pm ET

even if you're extremely exhausted, you would remember if you were under sniper fire, running and ducking for you life. the gamesmanship is obvious.

Disenfranchised,Fl   April 11th, 2008 12:41 pm ET

Anyone notice the lie "it was ONE TIME late at night". Is that what we can expect to hear every time they open their mouth?

Jack, Michigan   April 11th, 2008 12:41 pm ET

The problem was not Hillary's memory as Bill claims. It wasn't that she forgot she was in Bosnia. The problem is that the story she told was totally imagined or fabricated. If it was imagined, she's delusional. If it was fabricated, she's lying. Either explanation makes her unfit to answer the phone at 3AM.

Veterans for Obama   April 11th, 2008 12:41 pm ET

It was n't one time Bill, it was numerous times.

How can anyone believe anything Hill and Bill say.

THEY ARE LIARS!

Scott   April 11th, 2008 12:41 pm ET

Again, more lies. She said "I clearly remember......" and she said it four times, emphatically. She used the whole made up story to "prove" her foreign relations credits. That's why a lie like that is important Bill....duuuuuh! Why are Clintonites so rabidly loyal, and cannot see throught this nonsense. If Barack or McCain lied like that the Clintons would be screaming bloody murder. Will you people wake up and realize the Clintons have never cared about the American Public or the Democratic Party, only their own "legacy". They say whatever it takes. For the love of god, wake up people.

PA   April 11th, 2008 12:41 pm ET

Honest Abe   April 11th, 2008 12:40 pm ET

All we asked for was 'Honesty' – The Clinton's can't offer us that at all. Her entire campaign has been contradictory and full of lies! The Obama Supporter from Washington made an excellent point... "If she's exhausted at 11pm, how can we trust her to make the right decision 4 hrs. later".
Quit ALREADY!!!!!

Over reaction is the least one can do upon hearing a made up story by a person who claims to have an experience.

jay dee   April 11th, 2008 12:40 pm ET

Lies, because she's 60 and its 11:00pm ?Way past her bed-bed time? Come on Willy> She wants to be President and can't function after 11pm?

Really?   April 11th, 2008 12:39 pm ET

Please. She told this story repeatedly on the campaign trail. In hindsight, it made no sense: who sends the First Lady into harm's way? And what mother recklessly takes her daughter with her? As usual with President Clinton, there's no personal resposibility, it's just someone else's fault (in this case, the media's). Go away, Bill . . . every time you open your mouth these days you just hurt your wife more.

Kno   April 11th, 2008 12:38 pm ET

Actually, this was part of her stump speech...there are multiple YouTube videos of her making this claim on at least 3 seperate occasions, not just one. Anyone can do the search.

This was no misstatement...and she didn't "immediately apologize", she laughed it off.

I used to like the Clintons but these people are not honest, at all.

MW Los Angeles   April 11th, 2008 12:38 pm ET

Bill,
She didn't immediately apologize; she tried to keep the lie going...when caught she then said she misspoke! No, she lied Bill. If she were tired one night and said it once, I would give the benefit...but she did and it wasn't. Same as the contradiction of the Colombia free trade agreement mess. Hillary Clinton thinks we American's are not as smart as she and her husband. So they try to reflect the focus on others when caught or us their sad laughs to deflect any and all questions. If she is so against the trade, why did she accept the funds? And oh yes, let's not forget she used her own money when da crap hit the fan, was that from the $800,000 her husband earned in 2005 giving speeches for a Bogota-based group that supports the Colombia free trade agreement? If she were so adamant about something why then did she not talk with her husband about it and why did he accept the money? Cause of who they REALLY are.

I don't want someone like that for President, nor do they need to answer the phone at 3:00 AM exhausted.

Former Clinton supporter (Mainly because like most we thought it would get Bill back in the White House. But after all that I've learned about the two of them now I would never want them in office again. Note: The Monica mess has nothing to do with my reason to change who I am supporting)

OBAMA 08 all the way!!!!

The media made a big ol' hairy deal out of something she said, SEVERAL times in her campaign? The media quoted her fully, IN CONTEXT, about this phantom, invisible sniper? Really?

Then they showed a video of it, almost in it's entirety, for a couple of days? Oh, the injustice-

Maybe if our Fair and Balanced Bastions of Truth had taken snippets of her comments, completely devoid of context of course, and mashed them together into a 30 second clip, and repeated them, over and over, in the liberal AND conservative media, then maybe the Clintons wouldn't have so much to complain about.

But the media would NEVER do something like that.

k mccarthy phillipsburg nj   April 11th, 2008 12:37 pm ET

Does President Clinton think we are all stupid? No, Sen. Clinton did not rob a Bank. She made up a fairy tale to make the Ameican people think she was some brave commando under sniper fire and to embellish her foreign policy experience. One of her ads says she has "been to" 81 foreign countries. Based on that my 74 year old mother should be President. This issue speaks once again to the Clinton's credibility. I don't care how tired or how old you are you would remember whether somone is shooting at you or not.
We have had someone who does not tell the truth in the White House for the past 16 years. Do we need another one? Character counts.

Armand Johnston   April 11th, 2008 12:37 pm ET

Bill obviously will support Hillary on any front, even if she mis-spoke. The story wasn't blown out, it was revealing the truth about Hillary Clinton's campaign. It is o.k. for her to mis-speak but no one else in the campaign can do the same. I think it was such an egregious act on her part to use the Bosnia trip as a qualifying point in Foreign Affairs. I being a Combat Veteran of the Iraq war knows what flying into hot airspace is or flying above Baghdad in a Blackhawk. It is not a laughing or lieing matter. Where was Hillary's body armor or kevlar helmet?

Just a minute Mr. Clinton:

1. Your wife misstated more than "once" about the Bosnia trip. She did so at least three times .
2. Your wife was not speaking "late at night," on every occasion.
3. it was 1996 not "1995."

More tales from the Clintons.

Dem   April 11th, 2008 11:53 am ET

Trustworthy?

Tom A   April 11th, 2008 11:53 am ET

That's right. She was tired and "misspoke" about it in March...

...and February...

and December before the Iowa Caucuses...

and...aww forget it. I guess "misspeaking" is a habit of the Hill-Billy.

Danielle, TX   April 11th, 2008 11:52 am ET

Oh, Bill, that's soooo not right!! First of all, it was 1996. Second of all, she didn't say it late at night. Third, she didn't only say it one time (I believe she said it THREE times). Nice try. If she "misspeaks" late at night, what will she say on that 3am phone call?

That said, while I'm an Obama supporter, I will still support Hillary if she becomes the nominee and I will hope most democrats will still support whoever the democratic nominee (Obama or Clinton). Can any of us stand 4 more years of this mess?

Nick   April 11th, 2008 11:52 am ET

It wasn't one slip at 11pm. She said it a few times in multiple places. Kind of the same way she mentioned the woman without insurance multiple times.

Hillary has lied her lead away in Pennsylvania.

alice2   April 11th, 2008 11:52 am ET

Bill Clinton said Hillary was 60 yrs. old and tired – If she's OLD and TIRED, she should get out of the race!!!!!! – I don't think she's up to 3:00 AM phone calls, or she's TOO TIRED!!!!!

Alex H   April 11th, 2008 11:52 am ET

No no no no no... she's been repeating that story for months! Who are you trying to fool?

"And some of them when they're 60 they'll forget something when they're tired at 11 at night, too"

She didn't forget something, she MADE UP something! Sounds like she's got a vivid imagination, not a failing memory. The pilot of that airplane said he's never had anyone sit on their flak jackets. Hillary is running on an experience-platform and uses stories to portray that, so when she is busted in lying about her stories, we have to question her experience. We have, and I don't buy it.

However, good for her for saying that it's her responsibility for this incident. I just wish she would do that with every mistake she makes.

Jeff, Boston MA   April 11th, 2008 11:51 am ET

I just cannot stand these two anymore! They make me sick. They have no morals or ethics. They simply desire power. They are the King and Queen of manipulating discussions.

"And some of them when they're 60 they'll forget something when they're tired at 11 at night, too"

The key word here is "forget". She did not "forget" something, she lied and made something up. If you have ever been shot at, you do not forget that, and you certainly can't make it up, and actually believe it.

What baffles me most, that there are some people out there that still plan on voting for her. She is a pathological LIAR. She doesn't care about the people And she doesn't have squat for expereience. Being the wife of a civil engineer doesn't enable you to build bridges!!

I will have a perma-smile on my face when she announces her resignation. Hopefully the people of New York will wake up and boot her butt out of the Senate as well!

Amy   April 11th, 2008 11:51 am ET

How is she going to be ready for the 3 am red-phone call if she's that wiped out at 11pm?

Oh! The Irony   April 11th, 2008 11:51 am ET

Why is Bill Clinton lying? It was not just one time when she claimed she was under sniper fire.

RushBabie   April 11th, 2008 11:51 am ET

Bill always thinks the reaction to Clinton lies are exagerrated.

The have been telling them for so long they tink it's ok. The international community thinks we believe it's ok because so many people still vote Democrat.

Kate   April 11th, 2008 11:51 am ET

"You would have thought, you know, that she'd robbed a bank the way they carried on about this," he added. "And some of them when they're 60 they'll forget something when they're tired at 11 at night, too."

If, at 11pm, she can't remember whether or not there were snipers firing on her and her daughter, then how can we really expect her to answer a simple phone call at 3am?

Debby   April 11th, 2008 11:51 am ET

Oh I agree with Bill Clinton. What the media forgets to tell you is why she was there in the first place, it was to visit the troops and the wounded in a military hospital. This takes prescence over a jazzed up story about their landing anyday.

Of course CNN won't print this part.

CR   April 11th, 2008 11:50 am ET

I don't want someone who is exhausted answering the phone at 3AM and mis-speaking!

This recent "spin" from Bill and Hillary is so typical of them and what is just plain sad about these two brilliant people.

I will NOT be voting for Hillary.

Tough woman   April 11th, 2008 11:50 am ET

Theresa   April 11th, 2008 11:50 am ET

One time late one night when she was exhausted she misstated? COME ON NOW! She used the story in speaches on more than one occasion and it wasn't late at night. Are the Clinton's capable of being honest? And he's amused?

Maybe Hillary's new face is the one of amusement. She was sure amused during her little cackle about Bill's $800k paycheck. There is absolutely nothing funny about the way she is running her campaign!

Let me ask the mothers and fathers out here. If your child walked into sniper fire would you forget the details? I wouldn't...

So how many times did she misspeak about the Bosnia I think it was like 4 times was all those at 11pm, ironacally she could remeber the same issue over and over again without missing a beat. It's misspeaking if you recognize it as such, and then correct yourself. It's a lie when you tell it over and over then expect us to feel as if she misspoke after it's placed on the internet that she didn't dodge bullets, and what about Chelesa C, going along with the same story what she was speaking she was just listing to the lies and going along with it well she is what only 28 what is her/ your excuse for your little girl?

Bill said: "And some of them when they're 60 they'll forget something when they're tired at 11 at night, too."

Uhhh, wouldn't that make her too tired to wake up at 3am and handle "that call" properly?

May want to try another excuse.

Jean   April 11th, 2008 11:49 am ET

Bill Cliton should have a fact check before talking. One of Hillary's fantasy occured during the day on St Patrick Day and not at 11 at night, the year she also went to Bosnia is also wrong. And also, if Hillary's judgement can be easily impaired at 11 PM, it says something about her judgement at 3 AM. If the phone rings at 3 AM in the White House, Hillary should let it ring. Hillary can not be trusted to answer a phone call at 3 AM according to Bill.

Barb Canada   April 11th, 2008 11:49 am ET

I watched on CNN where they had people saying, that indeed those in the plane had been warned of sniper fire, and that it was indeed a part of what was happening on the ground in many parts of Bosnia. So in fact it was slightly misstated. When I get together with friends and family, we often have similar, yet not exact accounts of the same situation!

Mike Bulmer   April 11th, 2008 11:49 am ET

"Hillary, one time late at night when she was exhausted, misstated and immediately apologized for it, what happened to her in Bosnia in 1995. Did y'all see all that?"

Uh...no, I didn't see that. What I saw was Clinton vividly recalling a memory of something that supposedly happened to her during a midday press conference. She didn't admit to it being false until almost a week later, and certainly didn't apologize.

Liars.

Alex   April 11th, 2008 11:49 am ET

Yeah . . . except is has been proven that she "misspoke" FOUR different times. So . . . I don't think that the media overplayed it at all.

Nice try though, Bill.

NJ   April 11th, 2008 11:48 am ET

The media did overreact. There's tons of examples like this that Obama made, and are being completely ignored. I'm surprised at the overreaction. With an even-handed media, I can guarantee that Hillary would have been the clear winner by now.

Bill and HIllary really deserve each other. They both are hugely self inflated and their disregard for truth, is sounding a lot like Bush and Cheney these days.

Praying for relief from the Bushes and the Clintons, dear lord.

Pro-Democracy   April 11th, 2008 11:47 am ET

I strongly disagee. She has demonstrated a complete lack of understanding of what it is like for our service men, women and their families who daily face the reality that they or their loved one may be killed by sniper fire. This is beyond politics-it was just plain wrong!

Obama 08

sherry   April 11th, 2008 11:47 am ET

He's right. The medial blows everything up. That's no secret.

PENN and INDIANA please show the rest of the US that only Hillary is truly ready with a plan to change things.

VOTE HILLARY FOR PRESIDENT!

Debbie,NJ   April 11th, 2008 11:47 am ET

He's either a liar, is not following his wife's campaign or he thinks the American people are stupid. Which one is it?

Randy - Denver   April 11th, 2008 11:46 am ET

If she had told this lie the one time, late at night, I might have agreed with him but she has repeated this lie SEVERAL times, her daughter ahs repeated the lie several time.. sorry Billy boy the media has actually been VERY kind to her this entire selection process and this is just another case of them soft pedaling her lies

MovingOn   April 11th, 2008 11:46 am ET

One big problem Bill she was reading off prepared notes and did it 3 times. I know lying comes easy for you and you don't think it should matter but to the average American, integrity and honesty still matter.

No thanks, I'll take Obama, at least he has integrity and honesty.

Greg, NY   April 11th, 2008 11:46 am ET

"And some of them when they're 60 they'll forget something when they're tired at 11 at night, too."

But, she didn't forget something. She 'remembered' something. There's a difference. Especially the fact that if I was ever shot at, I know I'd remember it exactly the way it happened.

clmartin   April 11th, 2008 11:46 am ET

Clinton is not a liar she just forgets,"all the time".....yes we overreacted!

Realistic   April 11th, 2008 11:46 am ET

Bill Clinton lied about Hillary telling a whopper about the Bosnia sniper fire deal.

The Clintons are pathological liars; always have been, always will be.

Linda. Boston, MA   April 11th, 2008 11:46 am ET

Bill stop, you're helping her to death!

He got all kinda of facts wrong: she said it more than once, it it wasn't late at night. He also got the year wrong. And more importantly, she did NOT correct herself immediately as he said.

And then there's this line: "And some of them when they're 60 they'll forget something when they're tired at 11 at night, too."

So uhh.... she's getting too old to remember details correctly? So we should vote for her? Ok Bill...

steveg   April 11th, 2008 11:44 am ET

She did not immediately apologize, she repeated the story multiple times, which was an outright fabrication. I think if anything the press UNDER-reacted to an outright lie, especially given the tenuous relationship with the truth the current administration has.

How can either of them expect anyone to believe this crap? I know if I were ever to encounter sniper fire, I would vividly recall when and where, and not "misspeak" about it, just as I would not mistake flowers for snipers' bullets.

Good lord, Hillary, do you actually think we're that stupid. Apparently you do, and in many cases, you are right. Sad.

Simone   April 11th, 2008 11:44 am ET

The Clinton's are a pain in the neck. Will they give up. How can he justify Hillary's Misspoke situation. Do they not know this has already been proven? Where is Bill coming from?

Julie   April 11th, 2008 11:44 am ET

I do not think this is a laughing matter. The people in the midwest are losing their jobs because of these trade deals so here is my plea…

My Plea to Pennsylvanians

As a Pennsylvanian you have the unique opportunity to save the Democratic Party from more bleeding and giving us the BEST chance to win the White House this Fall.

Ellis, Brown University   April 11th, 2008 11:44 am ET

Oh, she misspoke because she was tired late at night?

It was part of a set of prepared remarks. That argument holds no water.

kim nyc   April 11th, 2008 11:44 am ET

ummm wow. yes, it's true when you're tired it's easy to forget thing. But it's a WHOLE OTHER THING to make up detailed stories. A lie is a lie. Of course they can't confess or else she'll be labeled as such. I like Bill, but NO NO NO to HIll.

Veronica   April 11th, 2008 11:44 am ET

The Media overracted to a lie! These poeple have no shame. Then Bill goes on to make the lie even bigger! What a mess!

Richard   April 11th, 2008 11:43 am ET

Bill's got it right! Who cares if she misspoke about one single trip? Obama had a crazy pastor for 20 years that I'm sure we haven't heard the last of if he get's the nomination. Plus, he's lying about being free from lobyists and big donors, as written about in the Washington post today

Ann   April 11th, 2008 11:43 am ET

Oh Bill. You need to be out of the limelight for 8 years atleast. Coz thats when Hillary will have her next shot at becoming the President.

Obama 08!

Tom   April 11th, 2008 11:43 am ET

Bill here you go again who running for president i wish you will go somewhere and relax, Just like the media overreacted Rev Jermiah Wright. This is the worst election I ever wittness. Hillary is a liar and she not to be trusted

Dave in Atlanta   April 11th, 2008 11:42 am ET

You know which people are always complaining that the media is against them?

Bush and the Republicas.

I hear Dick Cheney won't even watch any outlet besides Fox News because he feels it's the only one that presents an unbiased view. Republicans used to (and still do) call CNN the Clinton News Network.

Blaming the media when you screw up is yet another one of the old-style political tactics that turns me off of the Clintons. I don't want to see a liberal version of Bush in the white house.

Neal   April 11th, 2008 11:42 am ET

If she can forget something at 11.00 PM, can she forget something when she answers the call at 3.00 AM?

Neal   April 11th, 2008 11:41 am ET

Oh Please. This is not a slip of tongue, Bill. She lied.

She made up a whole story. This is not even a story like what she said about the pregnant woman, where it was someone else's experience. It is her experience.

She lied and it was exposed.

Greg, Pennsylvania   April 11th, 2008 11:40 am ET

Hillary is a liar, period.

kp   April 11th, 2008 11:40 am ET

The media can't overreact if the Clintons stop lying to the American people.

Madison , PA   April 11th, 2008 11:40 am ET

Again you..!!! More Lie...? Enough is enough... All the Clinton lost their credibility... We American are not stupid...

Mike   April 11th, 2008 11:40 am ET

A liar making excusing for another liar ! ! ! Priceless . . .

Venus   April 11th, 2008 11:39 am ET

Way to go Bill – trying to keep this lie to cover your payment of $800,000 from CAFT!

BCNU   April 11th, 2008 11:39 am ET

I think the reported IQ of this guy (~160) is as believable as he and his wife's words.

Adam   April 11th, 2008 11:39 am ET

Lets have the Media look at all the things Obama has lied about. Come on CNN, fair is fair.
