Clinton laughs off Colombia questions

CNN

Watch Clinton laugh off a question on Colombia.

PITTSBURGH, Pennsylvania (CNN) – Hillary Clinton used her trademark laugh Thursday to deflect a question about the $800,000 her husband earned in 2005 giving speeches for a Bogota-based group that supports the Colombia free trade agreement - the same trade deal she currently opposes.

Asked by CNN if those earnings represented a conflict of interest given that she has dipped into her family's pocketbook to pay campaign bills, Clinton threw up her hands and laughed loudly for several seconds.

"How many angels dance on the head of the pin?," she responded, continuing to giggle. "I have really, uh, nothing to ... I mean, how do you answer that?"

The New York senator explained there are different sides to the argument over trade, and re-emphasized her own opposition to the trade deal, assailing the Colombian government's "outrageous" record of "targeting labor leaders."

"I am against the Colombia free trade deal," she said. "It doesn't matter who talks to me. It doesn't matter any circumstances. I have been against it. I am against it. I will be against it absent the kind of changes in behavior that I have been calling for from the Colombian government."

Earlier in the press conference, describing her husband's advocacy for the trade deal, Clinton said: "Everyone is free to express their opinion."

This is a new level of trying to create controversy! How many times does a person have to say that the Clintons have conflicting opinions on the issue and how many times does she have to say no on whether she supports the trade agreement before people let it go?!! I mean really- conflict of interest for her husband taking money for a speech on an issue that he believes in. On top of that, that speech happened in 2005, 3 years ago- move on and focus on the many more important issues that matter today! She laughed because of the fact that the question was not worth the effort to explain herself again.

That should be "cackles" off Columbia questions. We all know there isn't a Democrat that really wants to vote down the Columbia trade agreement because its a great place for an expense paid junket. So.. Nancy and Harry will see that the rules are changed so it doesn't need to be voted on until after the elections.

HIllary is definitely the one with wisdom. When the responses were counted after the candidates had a chance to ask General Patreus questions, Hillary's choices agreed with most of the Americans surveyed. She is the middle of the road candidate for the Iraqi war. She has proven herself with real experience in handling America's problems such as health care and our budget deficit. She wants to bring education around the world. She will make a better president than Bill, and much better than Obama and McCain. Woe to America if she isn't made the president. We need her desperately in the next election.

    "unions are not stupid"

I agree! Now let's put things in perspective. Bill Clinton made $800,000 in 2005 giving speeches for the 'Colombia Free Trade Agreement', and she laughs it off. UNBELIEVABLE!

It would take you over 22 and a half years at your $18.50 per hour salary to make that kind of money. The fact is, Hillary Clinton thinks union workers are stupid!

I am just curious to know what happened to Hillary's supporters. As much as I don't agree with them, I like to read their comments, they make me feel great about my educated choice for voting for OBAMA.

  10. Will she laugh about Iraq?

Just today Hillary told the NYTimes that she would set her own decision over the military advice when pulling out of Iraq. She called it a civilian decision for the military to carry out.

I am not surprised seeing how she admitted on tv that she didn't read the National Intelligence Estimate before voting for authorization for war. It's a fact and in her speech for the vote, she stated (2002) that it was because of her 8 years of experience in the white house.

Do you know the definition of INSANE?

Repeating the SAME action over and over and expecting a different result.

She lies over and over and over and she gets lower and lower and lower in the polls.

Even Hillarys supporters have to be scratching their heads on this one. I mean ..............speechless.

Rick- In case you haven't been paying attention to the events of the past few days, Obama does anything but take the issue head on. He takes a side of neutrality and then once everyone else says something, he responds and repeats whatever they say. I would hardly call that taking on challenges.
Second, this was anything but a tough question- it was something that she already addressed numerous times and made her stance on the issue quite clear.
At least when Clinton comes out and speaks on an issue or controversy, she does it herself, not have a spokesperson do it like Obama does.

Valid question with a B.S. answer.

I think this whole Columbia trade story is another scheme by the Clintons. They are hoping everyone will think, "Oh, if they disagree on Columbia, then maybe she really did oppose NAFTA". Please folks, see through their deception and fraud. Every word that comes out of their mouths is a calculated move to garner votes. Hillary and Bill think the average voter is stupid. Actually, they are banking on it.

Nowdays just the sight of either one of the 3 Clintons makes me feel like taking a shower....

Now all the blue collar workers from the Keystone State can see who Hillary really is. Hillary is revealing her trueself. She will sell America and even ask for the change. HER CAMPAIGN IS IN THE FINAL MODE OF SELF-DESTRUCTION.

People of PA, do not let Hillary spin you further. Start to think for yourself! USE YOUR STREET INTELLIGENCE EVEN IF YOU ARE NOT EDUCATED. IT CANNOT BE THAT HARD TO SEE HER THROUGH.

To be frank, she does not care much about you. You blue collar workers are for her just a means to an end.

This is pathetic and so disrespectful to the American people. Does she really think we are all fools? Does she really believe that we are blind to her lies, to her manipulation and to the fact that she has benefited directly from the Columbian connections while American suffer from it? It's time for the American people to stand up and put the Clinton's in their place, and their place is not in the White House.

Everyone, wanted to vote for Clinton in the 90's, yet I never did! I heard things about the Clintons from my well connected family in Arkansas. There were so many greased palms and stuffed pockets.

They paid or silenced enough people to keep things calm during the first term. Then came white water, travel-gate and the list goes on and one, and then the lid blew off in his second term.

Peace and prosperity. You must be kidding. They live their lives like a bad soap opera. And people want four more years of that mess. How can you take care of public policy when you've got constant drama. That's a distraction. Emotional stability plays a large role in presidency's. And she is not stable. "How many angels dance on the head of the pin?," What the heck? She'll be the laughing stock of the entire world.

    Geesh.

    JackDaniels........

Thats just it, she is all about politics, the same old tired politics we have had for over 10 years now. peace adn prosperity for some, but alot of people lost there jobs because of the Clinton/Nafta trade policy. What is peaceful and properous about those years for all those bluecollar workers that lost their jobs, I don't see Bill Clinton staying out of the whitehouse business, just more of the same old establishment politician. He and her are apparently prosperous from those deals they made.
