That's right, we're all surviving just fine as we get kicked out of our homes and they are foreclosed. The company we work for moves overseas with Clinton tax breaks(NAFTA). The health care cost we can't afford keeps us from going to the doctors. We juggle month to month which bills to pay - pay the high cost energy bills or pay cut throat gas prices or buying food with rising economy cost, while our 'responsible' credit goes down the toilet. But the government bails out the Banks & Lenders. Almost 20 years not a President did anything about alternative fuel, yet Kennedy put a man on the moon in less than half that time! But our present administration, and former Clinton let the lobbyist and the oil companies rule the day, and rake in record profits, causing us to be dependent on foreign oil. But, We will survive. But you are wrong Mr Hendrickson, America is frustrated, and bitter. And you can tell Hillary and McCain the same. Mr. Obama words rang true, no matter how you twist them, he did not lie, he did not belittle, he did not cast shame. You do though, when you think we are so naive. Not this time. Not this time. Not this time. Enough is Enough.

There are some fat cat politicians who are not frustrated, not bitter, but those who have been betrayed by the government those politicians made have every right to be so. Those who have seen their job vanish, those who cann't find deccent paying work, they have a right to be bitter. Some who have been hit hard by the Iraq war might well be aasking what it has gotten them. We know who supported it. the votes are on record. We laugh bitterly at the pretense to have opposed it when the votes were for it were clear. They were even followed up by votes for Kyl-Lieberman. Now any guilty of that caannot pretend to intelligernt people that they were opposed to war and more war.
But aalthoughg we can spend billions upon billions for a war we do not want and was never justified, we see cuts in all needed social programs -- even in those for our wounded veterans. If you are not bitter about that, you should be!

Now I know why this country and its people have always been screwed up by its government , be it a demopcratic or a Republican one. The reason is simple, the american people does not like to be told the truth. It is true that we americans from small town or big town, are bitter like hell, and instead of facing our leaders like Clinton or McCain who lie to us everyday, we get diverted by them to guns and religion issues. We have been so manipulated by politicians that we do not know where our economic problems are coming from. So we keep on voting on a platform of guns, religion, abortion, gay marriage issues, because we are told that's where our problems are coming from. Finally we have someone, Obama, who is telling us where our reals problems are coming from, and how to address them, but we don't like the truth, because we are used to being lied to.

Wasn't HE the one a few months ago that said, "words DON'T matter?"

I think he's going to feel the impact of his words from his latest mindless ramblings.

....antipathy to people who aren't like them...?

So does this mean that the people of Pennsylvania are racist against people who are not like them? Who are these people that are not like the people of Pennsylvania? Obama needs to choose his words carefully. Look up the word antipathy people before you get angry at my comment people. The people of Pennsylvania are being called racist right now.

The good senator has said that he mistated and has apologized.

Is Hillard trying to use this as a life raft for her sinking ship?

How many times did Obama comment on her shortcomings during the past week?

Hillary will try to milk this as much as she can, but it won't work. We have friends in PA rural land who strongly agree with Obama.

The survey said 81% of American feel the economy is headed in the wrong direction. Could some of those American live in small town America? 71% of American fell worst off than 4 year ago could this lead to frustration and bitterness? Obama hit the nail on the head. We need a President that will tell you want you need to hear, not what you want to hear. The truth sometimes hurt, but nerveless it is the truth.

vote for change OBAMA 08!!

I listen to Bill Clintons speech today, It seems as though he's potraying Hillary Clinton as the change candidate. Is Hillary Clinton changing her position to the change candidate from the experience candidate. Hillary needs more than that to become the Democrat Nominee, she needs a miracle. Both Mccain&Hillary are affraid of Obama. He will be the next President of the United States of America.

There is a problem here. Every time Barack say something the media is always analyzing his words and runs with it. When Hillary says something and she says "her words were mistated and she didn't get enough sleep and it is alright. Her and her husband has made 109 million dollars since 2000. Her and husband do not know how it really feels for someone to lose their jobs, house in foreclosure, and etc. I think the american people need to look at the Clintons for who they are. They don't care about the minority in this country. They are looking out for themselves. Bill is wealthy, Hillary is wealthy, and of course Chelsea is well to do. The people needs to put someone in office that can relate to the people needs.

Bill Clinton has enough baggage to touch the "bitter" controversy. Sen. Obama's comments are no different from what John Edwards alluded to earlier in his campaign about "two Americas." He was not labeled unpatriotic or elitist by his competitors. The Clinton camp has faced so much controversy these days (not least of which Sen. Clinton's repeated Bosnia LIE) that they have opted to go for the jugular on what is essentially a non-issue. The Clinton campaign's less than discreet efforts to inject race into these elections should be viewed as a far more serious issue than a misconstrued comment about discontent in rural America.

Pathetic. Instead of dealing with real issues, we focus on the asinine. While our economy tanks and we slowly turn into a 3rd world country, we let supposedly intelligent people fight over semantics. The longer this political stuff goes on, the dumber it gets and the more disgusted I get with the entire process.

Barack Obama is the most pro-abortion presidential candidate ever.

He is so pro-abortion he refused as an Illinois state senator to support legislation to protect babies who survived late-term abortions because he did not want to concede -- as he explained in a cold-blooded speech on the Illinois Senate floor -- that these babies, fully outside their mothers' wombs, with their hearts beating and lungs heaving, were in fact "persons."

Obama's comment speaks to his level of arrogance and ellitist attitude. I hope that the DNC and Democrats are taking notice. If you people nominate him, there will be a President John McCain in a landslide victory. Obama's electoral victories in the causes have gone into his head. Obama in private is different from Obama in public. Though Obama is a great talker, but he does not have the experience and judgement to be president.

For the first time in a long while, Bill clinton showed some common sense

Honestly, I don't think Americans know what they want. On one hand, they say they want their politicians to be honest with them, but then when Obama says it the way he sees it instead of mealy-mouthing the situation, you get his opponents (and the press) jumping up and down in a frenzy.

I think you guys watch too many soap operas.. lol

If Country first, and political party second etc., then
The Democrats should be ashamed to think of any Clinton ever occupying high office in this great Country.

The Clintons have:
Lied to everyone (republicans, democrats, independents, catholics, agnostics etc) in this "country'. "I never.." "Sniper fire.." etc.

Divided and brought "bitterness" out of everyone in this Country; Hillary hated by over 50% of the people in this country.

Just look at what is going on now among the democrats, thanks to Hillary and her blind supporters; it is disgusting, and I feel "bitter about it".
Anyone who votes for a Clinton does not love this country, period!

Next, for Hillary supporters who may be uneducated, here are more words for "bitter" that you can add to your vocab
1. resentful
2. angry
3. cynical
4. hostile
5. feeling cheated (as Hillary does towards Monica)
6. hot
7. strong feelings

Wow, so many people take these comments SOOOO out of context. Obama didn't stereotype people, he empathized with their frustration while making an observation of how some people choose to deal with it. Incidently, he hit the nail on the head when he said Americans are getting bitter - I certainly am. Perhaps if he didn't explain it further & left it a vague statement we wouldn't be reading these stupid articles.

I don't know why I'm even responding to them, since CNN isn't even posting any of the commentary.

The truth hurts. People are bitter over job lost.
NAFTA not only has hurt the American blue collar worker, but the Canadian worker as well. Bill and Hilary Clinton not only supported and promoted this free trade agreement, but reaped tremendous monatary benefits from it. How HRC has the nerve to even continue in this democratic race baffles me on a daily basis. How can the American people sit back and listen to these two liars?????????? She makes a huge commotion over Obama's choice of words, but at least he didn't make the story up.

OBAMA '08

What else would someone who's never been there say? Of course Obama thinks those beneath him are bitter. Are we gaining a clearer picture of him now? An elitist? Arrogant? Unsure of the people who make the backbone of the country? Yes, I think so. He's a good man, but he still has alot to learn about how people tick and to separate cultural behaviors and values from outdated stereotypes.

People do pray and go to church when they are bitter and angry and yes some result to violence when bitter and everything else Obama said. He's just not saying what the people want to hear to win he's speaking the truth and guess what God honors the truth...

As a hard-working Pennsylvanian who has been laid off for the past 4 monts, I don't believe that Hilary is anti-trade. I lost my job after 13 years when it was shipped overseas. I used to support the Clintons, but I'm no idiot and I'm not going to be fooled by smoke & mirrors. I don't care what they SAID, I'm looking at what they DID on trade and I don't like it one bit! Clinton said that she opposed NAFTA, but they proved that she promoted it when Bill was President. And how can she be opposed to the Colombian trade deal, if Bill was paid $800,000 to promote it! I am not stupid enough to believe that the Clintons are looking out for me. But guess what--now I AM just bitter enough to vote for Barak O'bama. At least he's not trying to sugarcoat the truth.

Good thing! Bill is as bad as Hillary lately...every time either of them open their mouths, nothing but lies seem to come out! Who cares what some old burned out former president thinks...on the other hand, some peole just can;t get enough of these two scumbags! The Clntons could shake their hand while the other one was stealing out of their pocket and they wouldn't seem to mind! I'm not sure who are worse...the Clinton's or the suckers who support them!

I can't believe this spin and how out of control it is getting. Come on. He told the truth, I'm bitter. I've got a bitter taste in my mouth and Obama seems to be the only one who gives me hope that it all will change. The "elitist" rancor for Obama is interesting too. Who decided to call him elitist and spin off on it.

As well he should leave it alone. He is not running for the white House she is, or is he?? Both Clintons have demeaned many people all over America. His Jessie Jackson comments were demeaning and he didn't apologize for that . I am quite sure both he and his wife share the same sentiments she expressed about Dr. King. I am so happy that there is at least one candidate who cares about small time America and not just votes to have the opportunity to add to his millions. Keep telling it like it is Obama. There are lots of bitter people out here in small town America losing their homes and minus health care. We hear you, we know it is true and we vote. Time to get rid of the beltway insiders.

Obama is sympathetic and understanding. Unlike nearly every TV pundit, he was not being patronizing. He was responding to the condescending picture that the media is constantly painting of Pennsylvania, a picture initially created and fueled by Clinton goon James Carville's wisecracks. His point is that he understands why a variety of people are frustrated, distrustful and resentful. They should be! They've been ignored and ripped off and haven't been able to count on outside help (past administrations), so they're very protective of what remains of their own resources and their families and communities. Obama understands this. He's defending them! If Clinton and McCain aren't aware that people are bitter and angry about the sorry state of our Union, then they're is totally out of touch with human spirit.

Sure, if you want to put importance on what he said because the Clinton campaign tells you how they interpret it, remember this.
One of the most widely known words in the world are" Romeo, where for art thou Romeo?" 90% of the people think this means, where are you Romeo, I can't see you in the dark. Only 10% understand she was saying "Why does your name have to be Romeo? My entire family hates your family . Why can/t you be someone else."
So, if you are going to change your vote because the Clintons tell you to,
I feel sorry for you.

When does a noncoment become a story? Hillary laughs off Bill's $800K consulting and says he's not the candidate, yet he pulls in the stories to help her campaign. How does this system of preference work? It is very convenient and one-directional. Once again, Hillary has lost too much momentum and the media does everything to let the Clintons control the news cycles right before a primary. This is objective, nonpartisan reporting?

Nothing to comment on at least one of the Clinton's understands the childness of trying to make an issue to bolster a campaign.

I love Bill Clinton and sure would like to see Hillary and him back at the White House. I went to a talk or speech that Pres Clinton gave and the whole auditorium sat for over a hour while he talked to us - he made sense and he is very brilliant, tells things in a way ordinary people understand. Hillary is the same, Hope everyone votes for Hillary

Talk about 'typical white' grandmothers and then turn around and talk about typical small town America. My lord this man is a hypocrite. He backtracks on his Reverend so many times I can't remember what the final story is; he gets caught lying about NAFTA; he pulls the race card whenever it is conveneient for himself; he doesn't espouse patriotism; his wife says she is proud of America for the first time in her life; there isn't enough room for me to tell you how evil this man is. Hillary you aren't great but your sins are very minute in comparison to Barack.
