Clinton hits Obama over 'bitter' comments at Compassion Forum

Sen. Clinton wasted no time Sunday night before again criticizing Sen. Obama for his recent remarks about small town America.
Sen. Clinton wasted no time Sunday night before again criticizing Sen. Obama for his recent remarks about small town America.

GRANTHAM, Pennsylvania (CNN) - Minutes after Barack Obama tore into Hillary Clinton for criticizing his comments about some small-town Americans, the New York senator said again Sunday that those remarks about some could be seen as “elitist” and “patronizing.”

"But from my perspective the characterization of people in a way that really seemed to be elitist and out of touch is really something that we have to overcome," Clinton said at the Compassion Forum, airing on CNN.

"The Democratic Party, to be very blunt about it, has been viewed as a party that didn't understand and respect the values and the way of life of many of our fellow Americans," she said, adding that the fact that the comments came at a “closed door fundraiser in San Francisco” helped reinforce that impression.

She said that Obama was a good man, but compared him to unsuccessful Democratic candidates Al Gore and John Kerry.

"We had two very good men, and men of faith, run for president in 2000 and 2004. But large segments of the electorate concluded that they did not really understand, or relate to, or frankly respect their ways of life," said Clinton.

Thank heavens he is firing back at her. And thank heavens someone with a brain (Obama) is running for president. Too bad that Hillary can't compete with that.

"The reason (George H. W. Bush's tactic) works so well now is that you have all these economically insecure white people who are scared to death," ~Bill Clinton

I HAVE ALWAYS BEEN OPEN MINDED ABOUT THE DEMOCRATIC RACE THIS GO AROUND, BUT EVERYTIME I HEAR HILLARY TALK TRASH IT TURNS ME OFF HER AND MAKES ME LEAN MORE AND MORE TOWARDS OBAMA, TO THINK I NEVER EVEN HEARD OF HIM A YEAR AGO TO ALMOST GOING OUT AND CAMPAIGNING FOR HIM JUST BAFFLES ME. I'VE NEVER FELT THIS WAY ABOUT A CANDITATE FOR PRESIDENT BEFORE, IT ALWAYS SEEMED TO BE WHO'S THE WORST, NOT WHO'S THE BEST. I TRUELY HOPE HILLARY WON'T SPOIL THAT ENERGY JUST TO TRY TO KEEP THE CLINTONS NAME ON THE BALLOT. I WOULD HAVE TO REVERT BACK TO WHO'S THE WORST.

Which Democratic party is she talking about? The Democratic Party that championed segregation during Reconstruction? Or the Democratic Party in the pocket of the Tweed Ring for decades? Oh, maybe that isn't fair. That was years ago.

From now on, I'll settle to belittling the Democratic Party of Bill Clinton, and the Democratic Party that hasn't been able to muster sustained opposition to anything.

How can she, as a member of her husband's administration, claim she was in touch with any part of the American population?

Of course, making that claim will make me look elitist.

Yea she attacked him right after in one sentence she said she wasn't going to talk about it. Then after she was done talking her mouth off, she said she wouldn't attack or say anything about it. :P

Hillary has been caught in more lies than any candidate that I can remember in one primary. I am so glad that I my eyes have been open, and the true person has been exposed.

Senator Clinton received tough and specific questions about religion and faith and morality. Senator Obama received an opportunity to speak freely and politically.

CNN allowed Senator Obama to falsely state that Jeremiah Wright was NOT his spiritual adviser. SInce when? He was part of his political campaign until the videos emerged.

Campbell Brown rudely made Senator Clinton remain on the stage while Senator Obama walked in and did not allow her a chance to thank the audience.

This is just what we need! Sadly, Senator Obama gave HRC a week or so to try and smear him with his own words; I understand what he was trying to say, and so do the "small town" folks in PA; he meant nothing negative by it, but of course, HRC has to go on and on and on and on... about it...

  12. PA Voter

The elitists in this race are Hillary Clinton and John McCain. Hillary Clinton came into this race believing she was owed and entitled to the office of President of the US. And after voters in state after state told her otherwise, she has run a campaign of smear and attacks worthy of Karl Rove. I hope she loses outright in PA, and that we can very soon put an end to this negativity and infighting among Democrats. She is pure poison to the Democratic party.

  13. Hillary 08!

considering obama was answering a question to his elitist doners on why he wasn't winning over Hillary's doners, he used people being bitter clinging to god, guns, and being biggoted, and because he was black as an excuse.

I feel it is interesting. Hillary said that she has several time that the holy spirit told her and guided her. That remind me of the incidend of sniper fire.

Frankly, I feel that Hillary Clinton's statement that she has modeled her campaign in God's image is infinitely more offensive than Barack Obama's misconstrued statement about guns and religion.

TYPICAL CLINTON STRATEGY: BLOW SOMETHING OUT OF PROPORTION THAT OBAMA SAID, DO IT IN A NEGATIVE WAY, AND DO ALL THIS IN ORDER TO GET THE SPOTLIGHT OFF OF YOU AND YOUR HYPOCRITICAL, LYING CAMPAIGN EMPLOYEES (THE TARMAC SNIPER FIRE LIES, MARK PENN NEGOTIATING WITH COLUMBIA FOR A FREE TRADE DEAL, ETC, ETC...). SHE IS SUCH A NEGATIVE, PHONY PERSON AND HOPEFULLY PEOPLE WILL FINALLY SEE THIS AND GET HER OUT OF THE RACE BEFORE THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY'S CHANCES IN NOVEMBER AREN'T GONE AGAIN.

Religion is important to PA and you blew it Obama. Your true feelings about conservative democrats comes out.

You will lose the conservative democratic vote bc you are demeaning to us. I cant believe that in november I am going to have to vote against my own party.

i remember fondly Clintons time in office. But the sex scandal overshadowed all his impressive accomplishments, in this modern day age of caring more about scandal than facts or even important things.

Instead of showing 4k americans dead in Iraq, I see what did britney spears do today.

Lets get Hillary into office so women everywhere have a role model.

My God this woman is such a bad excuse for a candidate. Obama was right at the core of what we all are – bitter- and don't forget America, it began when the Clinton's began gibing our jobs away, an d she is still reping the financial benefits of her husbands supporting Clumbia Free trade. She is disgusting!
