From

WASHINGTON (CNN) – Barack Obama said rival Hillary Clinton must feel like she's "doing him a favor" by attacking him the way she has been in recent weeks because, according to Obama, it will only make him stronger in a general election against Republican John McCain.

"I have tried to figure out how to show restraint and make sure that during this primary contest we're not damaging each other so badly that its hard for us to run in November," Obama said at The Associated Press annual conference.

"Sen. Clinton may not feel that she can afford to be as constrained," he said, "but I’m sure that Sen. Clinton feels like she's doing me a favor because she's been deploying most of the arguments the Republican Party will be using against me in November and so it's toughening me up. I'm getting run through the paces here."

Obama's comments came in response to a question on whether he felt Clinton should drop out. He deflected by saying he suspects Clinton will have her own answer for that when she addresses the same group on Tuesday.

The Illinois senator also included in his response a backhanded compliment, calling Clinton "unique" for having raised $35 million and remaining in the race all while "sustaining 11 straight losses."

Hillary is preparing Obama to be tough and a humble loser, when the nomination eludes him.

Skipper   April 14th, 2008 8:43 pm ET

He's going to need toughing up. He's going to be sitting on the floor of the arena in Denver sobbing after Hillary is selected as the nominee.

Tim   April 14th, 2008 8:41 pm ET

I will never vote for Obama in the general election. Now is when we arew finding ot things about him and I do not like it!

outsider   April 14th, 2008 8:36 pm ET

Hillary is a sour loser. I am shocked. Conservatives are helping her speaks louder than anything. Obama represents majority, the people.

double standard   April 14th, 2008 8:34 pm ET

How come the Obama supporters get up in an uproar over someone saying anything negative about Obama.

"can you imagine calling a 46 y/o senator a "boy""?

But you can call Hillary any name in the book- that's okay.

I don't get it. If you want respect, you must also give it and show it.

Obama owes Hillary an apology for his mocking and jeering Annie Oakley comments. Although Annie is more an American than Obama can ever hope to be.

Marlena Martin   April 14th, 2008 8:33 pm ET

I'm sure Sean Hannity and Bill O'Reilly are using tons of concealer to cover the endless bags under their eyes...staying up day in and day out trolling blogs pretending to be so many different anti-Obama posters must be tiring as all he!!

Vig   April 14th, 2008 8:22 pm ET

Obama does not have one original thought or idea that doesn't have to do about himself. He needs to apply for a job at one of those ivory towers he came out of and devote his life to analyzing the bitter people of this country NOBAMA

In the Rezko trial today, a key witness for the prosecution Levine testified today that Nadhmi Auchi was at a reception with Obama a man Obama denied or doesn't recollect ever meeting, thats another deceptive statement that we are getting use to with Obama, Auchi was Sadam Hussein's oil trafficker, another lie another day. The republicans are building up their arsenal. This is a bomb just check it out.

Big Tex   April 14th, 2008 8:08 pm ET

The Clinton has sold us out in her own words:

She said ,A lot of these lobbyists, whether you like it or not, represent real Americans. They actually do. They represent nurses, they represent social workers - yes, they represent corporations that employ a lot of people."

The former first lady said that she welcomed the debate on the issue.

Now, a vote for Clinton is a Vote for the same old things.

Hillary Clinton just cant help herself. The Bosnia story came out, Mark Penn and Bill Clinton came out, employees and small vendors in ohio came out and the Obama campaign never said anything that would damage her in a general election. I'm proud to represent a candidate thats about change and building the country up and not a candidate that would do any and every thing to tear it down.

Sharon   April 14th, 2008 8:06 pm ET

EVERY TIME this guy opens his mouth he sounds WORSE AND WORSE!
He talks down to EVERYONE and blames EVERYONE ELSE for HIS WORDS! What a joke!
Why is everyone talking about the ARG poll today that shows Hillary up by 20 points? SurveyUSA had her up 18points LAST WEEK!

BO is an absolute joke....I've felt he had these "hidden" feelings about other people since he looked down on Hillary MONTHS ago and said "you're likable enough, Hillary." AND "I'm pretty sure I can get her votes, I'm not so sure she can get mine" He is soooooo bad.....

I think SNL needs to do an ANNIE OAKLEY skit with Hillary and Obama :)

Californian   April 14th, 2008 8:04 pm ET

I beg of you. Will Clinton, McCain and journalists stop beating a dead horse and admit that nobody is suffering like the people who have no prospects in sight for a good life. On the other hand, I think Clinton is actually demeaning herself and that is a plus for Obama.

Debby   April 14th, 2008 8:02 pm ET

Hey Dan Clintons life has been an open book all these years. Its Obama that has the skeletons coming out of the closet lately.

Ronald Reagan once said about Third World countries ruled by cruel dictators that "people deserve the leaders they get". I guess that, looking at all that's going on today in American politics, in a country in recession and at war, when people have been lied to over and over again by the same governments that got them in this situation in the first place, and nothing ever changes, I guess we can say that we Americans deserve the type of government that has been in Washington and has made us "bitter" and "frustrated". And the problem is that we still don't know that we are bitter and frustrated, and that we cling on to guns and religion to help us hang on.

Michael G- Ventura, CA   April 14th, 2008 7:58 pm ET

I have one favor to ask. To all independents and undecideds for the up coming primaries: Go through each of these stories- read all the posts- and then decide your vote.
The Hillary supporters are the nastiest, most hateful and deceitful people around.
Is THIS what you want your Country to be run by?
Don't you agree it's time for change?
I worked for Bill Clinton in 92 & 96 (I volunteered for his campaigns).I wore out three pairs of shoes in 1992 walking precints for him.
I really ask you to see what I have seen- the same old politics just won't work anymore. And if they think they're losing-which they are- the hate starts to fly like NASA had a birthday.
Please see for yourself.

Harry Moyer   April 14th, 2008 7:57 pm ET

I believe that Hillary has been beat up by Republicans so much, (sometimes rightly so), she has learned to fight them. The problem is that she learned so well that she now has little difference between herself and republicans when it comes to campaigning. Obama had it right when he said that the biggest problem a lot of "connected" democrats have against his that he hasn't been in the game long enough. He hasn't had the hopes and ideals beat out of him as yet. Well I say thank God! We need someone to show us how it's suppose to be, instead of just saying what everyone wants to hear.

Hillary 08   April 14th, 2008 7:56 pm ET

Glade to hear Hillary now has 20 Point lead in PA!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Jack   April 14th, 2008 7:51 pm ET

Sen. Obama: You've badly damaged your chances in Nov...... you should step aside for the good of the party

I'm bitter at Hillary and Bill for all the lies. Can they tell the truth for one day. Well I guess not with 109m, money in over seas banks, china,and LA law suits;

Rj   April 14th, 2008 7:47 pm ET

Most people are not bitter, they turn to religion because it is part of who they are not because they're bitter, they have guns for hunting not because they're bitter. He did not say they find comfort in their culture he said they become anti-immmigrant or against those not like them.

This is a "Man of Words That Matter" – he knew exactly what he was saying.

- He could have talked about PA small town people as the backbone of America. That even though times were hard they still continued to raise their families with values, they still have HOPE for the country, they are still interested in the the candidates ideas on the economics.

He said none of those things instead he talked about ...

How they were BITTER, BIGOTED, GUN TOILING, RELIGIOUS, XENOPHOBES.

- He was playing to his audience...

- I think it would be interesting if he gave the same speech to a town hall full of people in PA.????

Nathan   April 14th, 2008 7:42 pm ET

Can you believe the temerity of people like Ariana Huffington and Jonathon Alter. I mean this is politics! Ask Zell and 2002 + 2004 Congressional Democrats about hardball politics. If you can't handle the heat Obama get out of the kitchen.

Indra in FL   April 14th, 2008 7:38 pm ET

Wow – I don't remember Democrats being this divisive at the start of the campaign. I blame Hillary.

Shame, shame, shame...

I'd still vote for her over McCain, but I certainly hope Obama wins.

Hillary's latest "Bitter" antics just inspired me to donate $25 to Obama's campaign!

To think that I actually used to like Hillary Clinton, I would never vote for her. She has successfully ruined the Clinton legacy.

I'm mad as h&ll that my VP doesn't give a crap about what I think concerning Iraq...."so." I'm mad as h&ll that the govt has dragged it's feet with the illegal immigrants in this country. Uh wait...make that bitter!!!

Jonathan of Tampa, FL   April 14th, 2008 7:30 pm ET

Hillary is the negative campaigner. If Obama does not respond negatively
he will lose. Clinton pulled into the mud, now he is simply playing a game it seems she prefers.

kate   April 14th, 2008 7:28 pm ET

Are you sure Obama can get thought the White House door with that ego?
Could he be more arrogant?
You are not winning the General pal, get over yourself.
Rezco, Wright, Pennsylvanias are racist?, NAFTA,
now your buddy Carter is ticking off the Jewish vote by going to meet with Hamas leader, and you think it's ok?
Are you seriously thinking you'll win? That's the joke

candical   April 14th, 2008 7:26 pm ET

Hillary you win the prize. Not the nomination but the prize. What is the prize? A two week vacation to the whitewater resort in Arkansas where you can shoot a duck to your hearts content. Then off to the Clinton Library where you can pick up traveling money for your trip to China with Bill to see the Olympics. While you are at it bring back additional money for your next campaign. Don't worry if it is not enough you can invest it in cattle and get a 1000% return on it.

Ray from Gainesville VA   April 14th, 2008 7:25 pm ET

Thanks Dan. Funny how when blacks vote for obama, it's only because he's black. But are the high number of women who are voting for Clinton voting because she's a great leader? I don't think so.

Rainy   April 14th, 2008 7:25 pm ET

The fact that you delusional Clinton supporters can write anything negative about Obama shows just how warped you guy's minds really are. Obama has been nothing but gracious, but Mrs. Pander Bear Clinton will soon learn from her mistakes. The funny thing is he will be the Dem nominee.

When did states become Black States? What states are those? What states are White States? When did they get that way. Are living is a White State? White States and Black States are a state of mind. It is clear you lost sight of The United States!!

I FIND IT REALLY FUNNY THAT PEOPLE THINK THAT MCCAIN IS GOING TO BE HARD TO BEAT IN THE GENERAL...

PICTURE HIM IN A DEBATE W/ OBAMA OR CLINTON... HE'S GOING TO SUCK...

BUT TRUE OBAMA CAN DEF. SAY I BE THE TOUGHEST POLITICAN IN WASHINGTON!!!

KEEP GOING OBAMA, IT'S WILL MAKE YOU EVEN STRONGER DURING THE GENERAL!!!

OBAMA 08

Newman   April 14th, 2008 7:12 pm ET

Abandon all hope ye who enter here. We are due for a grim era if Hillary is the nominee. It's time to send a message and stop evil before it spreads. Barack Obama the hero has his armor now and will defeat both Hillary and John. The true savior will set us free.

Connor, Philadelphia   April 14th, 2008 7:05 pm ET

Obama will never be strong enough or tough enough to withstand the Republican smear machine. They will swift boat his fancy, high-falootin' tail into submission. He does not have what it takes to withstand such an attack. Better men than he have tried and failed. So get ready to say hello to President McCain.

Geri   April 14th, 2008 7:05 pm ET

God help America if Obama becomes president.

Lisa   April 14th, 2008 6:58 pm ET

Why does Obama need Clinton to toughen him up, shouldn't that be Michelle's job?

ltd1974   April 14th, 2008 6:58 pm ET

Keep up the Good work Obama. Carter and Gore is about to step in and endorse you and tell Hillary to hang it up. Game Over!

Dani   April 14th, 2008 6:56 pm ET

Whatever, he won't win the general election anyway. Let him run his mouth and yet pat himself on the back again, and again, and again. He's pretty good at that. He wasn't able to even come close to winning the predominantly red states, which means he won't win the general election. Beat up Hillary all you want, she has a better shot against McCain in the general election than Obama does.

rhenry101   April 14th, 2008 6:55 pm ET

Candidates aren't perfect. Obama will make mistakes. He needs to learn how to address the issues, admit any mistakes that were made, and move on. He fell short in his response to the Wright controversy, and he's doing the same with his remarks about small-town voters in Pennsylvania. All of this is leading to a sense of deja-vu amongst the voters. We've had a president for 8 years that has never made a mistake and never taken the blame for anything. Look where that's gotten us.

Andy   April 14th, 2008 6:54 pm ET

The treatment of Barack Obama by the Clinton campaign is restrained. If he thinks the treatment he is getting right now is harsh, just wait until he faced McCain. Barack Obama will be destroyed. He has no credentials that can compare him, ON ANY LEVEL, with John McCain. If Barack Obama wins, I am 100% convinced that he will be destoyed by the Republicans. Trust me: they are just getting warmed up and his favourables are already falling.

And don't even get me started on the Clinton campaign being more negative than the Obama campaign. They are both negative. Barack likes to pretend he is above it all, but I'm not fooled.

America For Americans   April 14th, 2008 6:53 pm ET

I'm just curious as to how Both senator's Clinton and Obama are not B\both equally electable. I mean i read these statements and people are are claiming that Senator Obama is not electable; what exactly does that mean. Senator Obama is up 700,000 popular votes, he has 150 more delegates, and more than tend states won. Also, lets not forget the Senator has raised three times as much money over the internet from private donors than both Senator's Clinton and McCain. Consequently, can anyone explain why he is intrinsically "un-Electable!" Or is this just a cute buzzword people or using to try to make a silly argument for the candidate they support. Oh and by the way the republican machine will try to dismantle both candidates?

ds   April 14th, 2008 6:51 pm ET

You know, I really haven't heard Obama say things that aren't true. I have definitely heard him speak truths that are taboo, though. Unfortunately, most of us would rather scream foul than to ask ourselves "why does this offend?" It's tough to look in the mirror.

MAR   April 14th, 2008 6:51 pm ET

Finally, the press is reporting what the public is saying instead of reporting what the press is saying. Most folks understood what Barack was saying. My gosh. A mis-speak for Obama is being treated like a federal offense. What about McCain not being able to get the groups right in Iraq (on several occasions)? Now, that is arrogant . . . not taking the time to learn about the folks he wants to impose his foreign policy on.

dems for mccain   April 14th, 2008 6:40 pm ET

OH MY GOD! IS HE KIDDING US. IF HE THINKS HILLARY HAS BEEN SO TOUGH ON HIM, IF HE IS THE NOMINEE, HE WILL BE TORN APART IN THE GENERAL ELECTION BY ROVE AND THE REPUBLICAN MACHINE. SHE HAS STAYED OFF SO MANY OF HIS CONTROVERSIAL REMARKS TO KEEP FROM ALIENATING SOME OF THE KEY DEMOCRATIC VOTERS LIKE THE BLACK VOTE AND THE ULTRA LIBERAL VOTE THAT OBAMA HAS BACKING HIM. ITS KINDA SAD TO THINK THAT HE REALLY SEES THIS AS BEING TOUGH AND HILLARY GOUGING SO HARD AT HIM. MOST OF EVERYTHING THAT HAS COME OUT NEGATIVE ABOUT HIM IS SELF INFLICTED AND SHE HAS HIT ON A FEW KEY NOTES ABOUT IT BUT HASNT REALLY DRIVEN THE POINT ABOUT ANY OF THEM... HE JSUT WONT BE ABLE TO STAY THE COURSE IN NOVEMBER, SO IM GOING CLINTON, OR JUST MAYBE IF SHE ISNT THE EVENTUAL NOMINEE THAT MCCAIN IS DIFFERENT ENOUGH FROM BUCH AND IS ENOUGH OF A MAVERICK TO GET MY VOTE IN NOVEMBER.

fran   April 14th, 2008 6:39 pm ET

His comments about her have the same effect. He cannot get away with saying whatever he wants to say about Hillary, then turn it around as if he's some kind of a victim. He's just as guilty. This is why so many of us in this party have a hard time supporting him. He says one thing, then does another. Double talk. If he's so concerned about the party, then get out of the race

Dan   April 14th, 2008 6:36 pm ET

Ever noticed that most positive comments for Hillary left here are from women. They need to look up a few of these names/terms. NAFTA, Vince Foster, Whitewater, Monica Lewinski, ie. impeachment), Frank Giustra, Filegate, Travelgate, Mark Penn, Jorge Cabrera, Peter Paul, Abdul Rehman Jinnah. I can go on and on! She was the FIRST FIRST LADY to come under criminal investigation, the FIRST FIRST LADY to almost be indicted according to special prosecutors. Hillary Clinton fundraisers convicted of, or pleading no contest to, crime: 5, NUMBER OF TIMES that Hillary Clinton, providing testimony to Congress, and said that she didn't remember, didn't know, or something similar: 250. NUMBER OF CLOSE BUSINESS partners of Hillary Clinton who ended up in prison: 3. Hillary Clinton was mentioned 35 times in the Whitewater indictment.

Now do you really think that the republicans are going to sit on these stories in November. AND these are just a few of the criminal activities of Bill and Hillary. Obama has been a very clean competitor so far, I'm sure he is bitting his lip keeping all of these, (and many other stories from hitting the news stands). He could ruin the DNC and Clinton for Life!

Hillary's attack machine continues, and sadly, they do not notice that once she was up in Pennsylvania by double digits, which is now ONLY 6%. Attacks backfire. She doesn't get it.
......................................................
You don't get it either....New ARG poll shows Hillary up 20% today. So maybe, Obama ego got the better of him again & give more ammunition to the republicans!

Ravi   April 14th, 2008 6:34 pm ET

When will Hillary Clinton supporters finally tire of the lies, half-truths and non-issues that her campaign is churning out? There are so many examples that only a real idiot could not see her for who she is – off the top these would have to include:

- Her repeated "sniper fire" lie (which Bill Clinton attempted to defend recently);
- the Clinton campaign's utter failure to address Geraldine Ferrarro's overt racism (not to mention Bill Clinton's);
- Her alleged opposition to the US-Colombia FTA while her top adviser has lobbied for it and her husband has netted at least $800,000 for promoting;
- Her NAFTA lies (how on earth can you really expect people to believe that one can have "serious reservations" about a trade deal that one lobbied so extensively for);
- a civil lawsuit she is facing in California (Paul v Clinton); and
- the unprecedented aggression towards a fellow Democratic candidate which reached its peak when she indicated that John McCain was better qualified than Barack Obama to be commander in chief (only to then contradict this argument by "offering" him the VP position)

The list goes on.

Allan   April 14th, 2008 6:21 pm ET

Senators Obama and Clinton have chosen to take on the most thankless task in the US by running for President. Too bad so few of you appreciate the sacrifices they and their families are making.

That being said, one has rallied more people.

One has gained more contributors.

One has won more votes.

One has won more delegates.

One has won more states.

If that one were Hillary Clinton, who here would not encourage Obama to step aside for the good of the Party?

I continue to be inspired by the grace and elan with which Senator Obama rises, and rises, and rises. And disappointed with the gracelessness and bitterness with which Senator Clinton falls, and falls, and falls.

Hillary will not exercise constraint because she knows she is loosing the nomination, I think we should visit the republican dump truck and pick up just one dossier about the clintons. The republicans were so ready for her and now they dodnt know what to do with Obama.

JCB   April 14th, 2008 6:15 pm ET

"I have tried to figure out how to show restraint and make sure that during this primary contest we're not damaging each other so badly that its hard for us to run in November." What a liar! You made negative comments about her drinkling a whiskey today - and you already owned up to drugs and drank in public during this election campaign. Hillary has the right to campaign and call the shots as she sees them. That is not negative, that is just being honest. She is not hurting the democratic party - you are, Obama. You should drop out of the race now. You and your reps are keeping the Florida and Michigan ballots out of the count. You know that if they were counted, Hilllary would be leading. This is the perfect theme song for Hillary.

I'm an old cowhand from the Rio Grande
But my legs ain't bowed and my cheeks ain't tanned
I'm the cowboy who never saw a cow
Never roped a steer 'cause I don't know how
I sure ain't fixin' to start in now
Yippee i oh ti-ay! Yippee i oh ti-ay!

I'm an old cowhand from the Rio Grande
And I learned to ride before I learned to stand
I'm a ridin' fool who is up to date
I know every trail in the Lone Star State
'Cause I ride the range in a Ford V-8
Yippee i oh ti-ay! Yippee i oh ti-ay!

Caleb   April 14th, 2008 6:10 pm ET

Dear stupid obama, you big snob. If you do make it to the general, which I doubt, since you make a bigger mistake every couple of weeks which makes your numbers go down against John Mccain, you will lose just like John Kerry, another elitist who looked down his nose at the rest of us Americans.

robert knopp   April 14th, 2008 6:09 pm ET

I've said all along that bigots wouldn't go at him for race. They go in the side door by misquoting his preacher. The right is already trying to take away our Savior by making him bitter and not inclusive. Obama is not their kind of Christian. Don't even imply that maybe blacks have been treated unfairly, because that means he's not our kind of Cristian.

HYPOCRACY 08   April 14th, 2008 6:08 pm ET

At this point I may not even vote... I'm depressed by the whole thing... nothing is being talked about other than mud slinging by all involved... it's really sad when you think about it. War, Economy, Education, Imigration, etc, etc, etc,,,,,,

Hard issues are on the table and we discuss Bosnia, Monica, Wright, what he said, what she said.... etc....

This whole process makes you feel dirty... it's just sick

Fendley   April 14th, 2008 6:08 pm ET

What an absolute jerk Obama is.

Michael   April 14th, 2008 6:08 pm ET

As asoon as I get paid on Friday I'm giving Obama a donation also. He's the right man for the job and will do great things for this country.

If it were another HONEST woman she'd get my vote, but never Hillary.

JT   April 14th, 2008 6:07 pm ET

I'm so glad Obama is in this race because we would be left with self-centered, selfish Hillary. It's a great country, we have made our choice, and our choice thinks about other people, not just themselves. What a concept, huh Hillary? We actually have a patriotic American, running to be the president of America, so he can do something for Americans, not just himself. Wow, so that's how it works.

In Clintonsworld, we would listen to the lies, vote her in, and watch her pay back all her cronies, for getting her in. Watch her ignore us, watch her write her memoirs, pay a small fortune for her book. Watch her retire, and listen to how many more millions she is making with the NAFTA deal, that will still be in place. That's Clintonsworld, and I'm so glad I will not be going there.

NG in DC   April 14th, 2008 6:07 pm ET

Obama looked like he was about to cry beneath his big false smile when he called Clinton "Annie Oakley" the other day. He's like a big kid who got smacked on the play ground is trying to act tough by calling her names...while holding back the baby tears.

Imagine when he goes to Iran and gets called all sorts of names. He'll melt like sugar.

doug   April 14th, 2008 6:03 pm ET

Me thinks that Hillary is really a republican in democrats clothing, she's so out of touch with Main Street America that it's a pity. She needs to get real and give it up or change party.

Dave   April 14th, 2008 6:03 pm ET

Unite.

All this hate-mongering online with mean a McCain presidency period. Polls show Obama will have tougher time in Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Florida. Polls also show Clinton will have a hard time in Iowa, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Oregon, and Washington.

If Democrats could somehow unite behind one candidate come November, we could finally get some stuff done in this country. But if that does not happen and McCain is elected President, we have more war and a worse economy.

Think about it.

I'm an avid Obama supporter but if Hillary is nominated I will proudly cast my vote for her.

Cory   April 14th, 2008 6:03 pm ET

Stop calling Obama a "woman hater" Edna. It's ignorant to a shocking degree. Just because he's in a heated race with a woman doesn't make him a woman hater, just like that doesn't make Hillary a man hater. Anyway, I think there's more evidence for Hillary=man hater, than Obama=woman hater, but whatever, no one really cares if someone is a "man hater" so its a mute point.

And Noah has it totally wrong, I was in the crowd, and while I wasn't one of the ones jeering, the crowd WAS jeering Hillary, NOT the statements Obama made.

frank   April 14th, 2008 6:02 pm ET

Obama's supporters are really ridiculous. When Obama do something wrong, they, including Obama himself, attack Hillary. They are really immature and inexperienced, just like Obama.
How do you expect Obama to become a president, a head of a group of babies?

Independent-woman-voter-for-Obama   April 14th, 2008 6:02 pm ET

Hillary's attack machine continues, and sadly, they do not notice that once she was up in Pennsylvania by double digits, which is now ONLY 6%. Attacks backfire. She doesn't get it.

No Hillary   April 14th, 2008 6:02 pm ET

Obama you are a good man... Can't wait until this drunk woman steps down so we can move on to the next stage and defeat the person whom she admires most: McCain.

This is amazing! Hillary just go super delegates in Montana supporting her. That is no chance,it is the truth coming out in droves.Go!!!!!! Hillary!! Go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.

JCB   April 14th, 2008 6:02 pm ET

Obama needs to toughen up. With all his missed steps - he won't win against McCain. Obama is dishing out dirt - he needs to be able to take a few home truths. He is rich, he went to the best schools, he never starved a day in his life. He is not some poor little boy who had to fight to climb to the top - he did that through dirty politics. If America needs a black president, the good old boy politicans like Kennedy and Richardson could have chosen better. If anybody needs to get out of politics, it's the alcoholic, womanizing Kenndey.

TX Dem   April 14th, 2008 6:00 pm ET

YES....Obama is SO arrogant! How dare this black man have the nerve to be so confident! I cant believe he has the nerve to run for President of this great country. He needs to stay in his place!

NOT!!!!!!! He has as much right as anyone else in his position to be confident! He's leading in states won, popular vote, pledged delegates, and is quickly gaining in superdelegates. Why shouldnt he be confident? Nobody complained about Hillary's level of confidence in the month leading up to Iowa....and then super Tueday! Why is there so much hate for this man. If you hate is politics, I could understand it....but your attacks are SO personal. And all based on what Republicans will unleash in the fall.
So he should just drop out for fear of what might happen? Where would we be as a country if the great men and women before us followed that logic????

Obama is an arrogant and condescending oaf. He thinks his infallible. His pretext for change is a huge lie. This man has a dark agenda and it's getting obvious everyday–Jeremiah Wright ties, Louis farrakan endorsement, the terrorist Ayers ties, Black Panther endorsement, Al Jazeera endorsement, Hamas endorsement, Michelle Obama's comments of first time being proud in her adult life, Tony Rezco ties, insults on middle America calling them bitter. These are just too many to count. This man is dubious. The speeches that come out of this man's purple mouth are all lies. He is a political opportunist. No way you'll be the president Obama boy, n o way.
HILLARY ' 08!!!!!!!!!!

Leila   April 14th, 2008 6:00 pm ET

His arrogance is disgusting!
Michelle, you may not be proud of America, but most of us are. McCain was a war hero. He has proven his loyalty to our country. Obama has proven he thinks he is above most of the rest of the country. Those who care about America won't say "GD America" like Reverend Wright, they will just vote for McCain!

Wake up Democrats, we really need to win this fall...ya know?

Joe   April 14th, 2008 5:54 pm ET

I truly can't wait until Obama is elected. That way, four years down the road when our nation is in the same or worse condition, people might actually wonder if voting solely on "the audacity of hope'" was such a good idea.

Now you can add Teacher to that never ending I'm every woman resume. Thanks for the help, but Obama can take it from here. Your tough love approach is bad for the party.

Now like a mean, and demeaning teacher, the kind that has slipped through the system, that spends more energy hurting their students, take your behind somewhere and watch with bitterness from a distance as Obama walks across that stage on Inauguration Day inspite of your efforts.

If she's a teacher she gives even the word teacher a bad, bitter name.

Cory   April 14th, 2008 5:52 pm ET

Arrogant? Just because he doesn't faulter under Clinton's low-blow irrelevant attacks doesn't make him "arrogant."

If that is the worse thing that most of you can say about Obama you should rethink your political stance. And if you don't characterize Clinton's recent efforts to tear apart the democratic party just to win a nomination as "arrogant," or worse, then you're self-deluding beyond help (and probably know it).

Thomas in Florida   April 14th, 2008 5:52 pm ET

Obama supporters, you are partly to blame, and so is the media. You have helped create a legend in his own mind and now he thinks he is omnipotent.

I believe that he is unelectable at this point. He belittled the core of America. This is so sad. I am a democrat, and even though I support Hillary, it makes me very sad to see this type of comment come out of a prominent democrat.

You're all backing a losing horse.

Guns & No Roses   April 14th, 2008 5:46 pm ET

I love it. Barack is making Hillary work like a dog. He is dragging her all up and down and around America. She wanted to stay in, well there you go.

Flashback: Super Tuesday night. Hillary was elated because she thought she had won. But the next day, Barack was back on the trail, plugging away–and he hasn’t looked back since.

LOL, she thought she'd be home right now drinking her nightcaps, and going to bed. Wrong. Suddenly she really had to campaign. So now she's swigging back shots in a bar, and talking about guns to prove she's the real deal. Whatever it takes, huh Hill? Don't worry, you'll be home to count your millions soon enough.

America is not for Hillary. She is the phoniest woman on the planet and now the whole world knows it.

Obama can not add! He does not have the 2024 delegate counts; but he already thinks he is the nominee. And there a are still millions of votes yet to be counted. Unfortunately if he is appointed the nominee by the super-delegates; he will be defeated by McCain in November. Obama is even more arrogant than W. At least Obama is intelligent; just too radical. Congratulations Obama supporters, you are ensuring at least four more years of W's failed policies and devastating economy. Hopefully the super-delegates will responsibly fulfill there duty to Americans and not allow Obama to be the nominee.

Roger   April 14th, 2008 5:42 pm ET

Hillary must have struck a nerve because Obama is losing his cool. I think that Hillary hit the nail right on the head about Obama being an elitist. That's why he is getting so desperate now.

Bud Curtis   April 14th, 2008 5:42 pm ET

I become more amazed every day at Obama's newest height of arrogance.
This man is so out of touch that he really acts like he believes what he is saying. When you live by words alone, you have nothing of value to offer when your words expose your hidden beliefs.
NObama.

OlvrWhit   April 14th, 2008 5:41 pm ET

I still don't get the Obama supporters that claim what he said was true.

Does that mean that you consider all rural americans to be bigots? because that is what he said. Not his new version of what he said he was trying to say...and yes I read what he said in private..

No one, even Hillary supporters, are claiming that people are not bitter or frustrated, we take issue with the fact that he followed by saying people cling to guns and religion( thats not turn to in a time of need as he now says). He called millions of americans bigots..I do not deny that bigots exist, but you can not call all voters in small towns that..Obama knows himslef he was wrong.

His attacks on Clinton are disgusting. He was wrong and should be less arrogant and apologize.

Lisa   April 14th, 2008 5:32 pm ET

Okay. I am just flat out sickened. I agree with those who say Obama is "snowing" the general public! And, brace yourself, I am a Black female. One thing that being Black has challenged me to be is determined and focused...but also HUMBLE. So many times lately I cringe at the body language (and words) of Barack Obama. It's just like being a mother watching a guy court her daughter for a potential relationship. I could go on and on about the reasons for my distrust of Obama, but I won't. To me it's even more basic than that. Obama does NOT relate to blue collar workers (myself included). That spells major DOOM for the general election. Why? Because, like him or not, McCain bleeds Red, White and Blue Collar. Any of you who have yet to vote in the Primary, please think about the next 4 years. There's just no way that Obama can beat McCain. That's a point that has to be seriously taken...candidential preferences aside. THINK ABOUT THE GENERAL ELECTION.

Shelly, OH   April 14th, 2008 5:32 pm ET

Hillary realizes she lost, but she wants to run for 2012, so she had nothing to lose. If she can knock Barack down, and have him lose to the McCain, then she will be in good standing in 2012. Of course she will have a heck of a time getting voters to supporter her as she has trashed the DNC and made it more difficult for the Dems to win in November.

Speaking of the GOP, McCain is pretty arrogant and acts like he has a birthright to the presidency. He will find out soon enough.

Obama has weathered Billary's attacks like a gentleman throughout this whole campaign. There comes a time when one has to say "enough is enough".

Thank You Democrats   April 14th, 2008 5:31 pm ET

Thank You Democrats. I was ready to vote Democrat this election to try a change in politics, but you have changed my mind. There is no way that I would vote for Billary and support their dirty politics. Could you imagine the secret service cost in order to keep Bill's pants zipped up while in the White House. The Clintons have lied over and over throughout their political career. Seeing how bad the Democrat Elite (Clintons) are treating Obama has really hurt him.

The Democrats have really messed things up for themselves this election.

Think ABC
Anyone But Hillary.

Jacob   April 14th, 2008 5:30 pm ET

Only effect Clinton's "bitter" spin remarks had on me was that I donated $25 more dollars to the Barack Obama campaign

Anybody but Clinton...

Obama '08!

tay   April 14th, 2008 5:28 pm ET

Why is it that people don't wanna hear the truth? Do we want a president that says how he feels of one that just says what the crowd wants to hear. Obama's comments about bitterness are.....yall ready...TRUE!! A lot of people are bitter! Hell, I know I agree with his comments. I've been bitter for the last 8 years! Now-a-days people are quick to get offended at the littlest thing just so they feel important. We will never solve this nations problems unless we face the TRUTH! The truth is often cold, harsh, and hard to swallow but the fact remains. The truth is the truth.

Hillbillary McClinton   April 14th, 2008 5:27 pm ET

Love it when Hillary throws dirt because it just blows back in her face. She really needs to stop trying to manufacture political gaffes and try to run a mature campaign. The only way the media can make her look good is by not covering her, every time she opens her mouths she looses 500 votes.

Candi   April 14th, 2008 5:25 pm ET

Yes yes Hillary is making him stronger with attacks. Obama never have attacked Hillary so bad. But she deserved that and more. Give her what you got Obama.

Sen. Obama, Continue taking the high road. Continue to be the statesman who has inspired millions. Don't get sucked into being defensive. Stay in control of your own message of audacious hope. Don't let them make you ordinary. You are extraordinary. Yes we can!

Christian, Tampa FL   April 14th, 2008 5:18 pm ET

Which would make a joint ticket strategically... interesting. It would certainly confuse the heck out of a lot of Republicans, maybe enough for the Dems to gain an advantage. Or, it could be disastrous.

I think that Hillary's insistence on staying in the race will turn out to be helpful to the Democrats, as long as she doesn't take it all the way to the convention.

Give me a break Obama...you are a joke to this nation...in addition, although you deny that you were not in the audience when Wright was stating anti-American sentiments, you admiited to hearing controverisal comments...I wonder if the media is ever going to ask you what contoversial comments that you heard in Wright's sermons...I wonder if those controversial comments were "strong" and why you after hearing these comments were still attending the church.

Obama also stated that he wants to bring about change to Americans but what change did he bring to Ilinois?

Obama also stated that Americans are bitter and that they lean to guns, religion, etc. including his hometown...what has he done to change the bitterness in Illinois. ..probably nothing...false promises!

roger dowdle, lockhart, Tx   April 14th, 2008 4:56 pm ET

Clinton has no chance to win the nomination, so she would rather damage Obama by making him look bad for telling the truth. For the last 35-40 years, I have heard "I am going to vote for him because he is the lesser of 2 evils". This is the first time, except for Perot, thaat there has actually been a real interest in the campaigns. Just look at the numbers of new voters Obama has attracted! It is obvious that if she is not going to win the nomination, she will try to drag the party down to defeat with her.

Al, Sacramento Ca   April 14th, 2008 4:56 pm ET

This guy needs to close the primary first, before talking about November. He's got alot of work to do specially after Hillary wins Penn and Indiana.

He's admitted that Hillarry is toughening him up. Shouldnt we have someone tough to figh the Republicans from day one??

GOP spin machine are loading their guns!!!

Hiliary CAN still win but be freaking serious. Guess what, Hiliary can win ALL the remaining states by double digits 55-45 percent, and take 55 percent of the remaining superdelegates and guess who still wins the nomination......OBAMA

Hilliary has to take EVERY state by at least a 58-42 margin including the majority of superdelegates to win. Its over.........

Dana, Pittsburgh PA   April 14th, 2008 4:44 pm ET

Exactly, you should be thanking her. Now people will have been exposed to all the bad about you and it wont be that big a deal come November. Also, if you can peel off her supporters they are more likely to support you in November then if it is viewed that she was asked by the leadership to quit before everyone voted. Hillary supporters, like me, will be more inclined to support you if Hillary loses after all the votes are counted versus her being forced out. Even if she only has a slight or no chance she should be allowed to continue campaigning until all the votes are in. You are going to have to survive the Republican Attack machine so if you take a few punches it might help you fight harder in November.

You see Obama, Hillary wants to win the nomination but doesnt want to hurt your career. The GOP want to end your career permanently.

You have lots of career ending issues that havent even come out yet that I know of. Cant imagine what the GOP knows privately. I know from what their gop website shows, you will not win.

Hillary is the only one that has a chance against McCain.

Brendan D, Niles, IL   April 14th, 2008 4:41 pm ET

NOW the teeth come out! Hillary IS employing Republicanesque attacks against Obama. Which is fine - if that's how she wants to be remembered. But she's angering a lot of people, and if she doesn't win the nomination, they're not likely to forget. The public will; the beltway insiders she'll have win over in an Obama (or, worse for her, a McCain) presidency won't.

Susan MO   April 14th, 2008 4:41 pm ET

Obama is not fooling America. It's not Hillary who is helping him, it is HIM who has hurt himself.

How terrible what he said to the people of Pennsylvania. We do not need a president who slams the people.

We thought about Obama at first, but not now. He is critical & rude, and laughs off when he makes a rude remark to the people.

SHAME ON OBAMA!!!!!

NOW FOR CLINTON

Stop Stirring The Cauldron Hillary   April 14th, 2008 4:41 pm ET

Kathy Corey   April 14th, 2008 4:41 pm ET

Senator Obama is unelectable. John McCain is already raising money on his latest gaffe. The Republicans will have no trouble defining him as a liberal elitist. His Red State Electoral College strategy is a joke.

Mike   April 14th, 2008 4:41 pm ET

The reason for this is because you have not won the Democratic Base... Obama has shown very little substance... he is all talk and just like he did with the question above... he continues to not answer direct questions instead he deflects and blames other people...

50% of democrats want to know what this man stands for!!!

That said, I hope Hillary does not cave into this kind of mounting pressure to quit…we women in male-dominated industries understand that this is just the process of advancement.

Patricia   April 14th, 2008 4:40 pm ET

Clinton just said a moment ago (in regard to Obama's remarks) that he SEEMS to be an elitist. She couldn't say his IS an elitist. because she knows she is more of an elitist than he is. His father left when he was two. His mother raised him along with the help of his grandmother.

If he gets past this media/Clinton blitz, her will be stronger and tougher to take on McCain. McCain fits in more readily with the "fat cats," and trying to peg Obama as an elititst will be much harder for him, even though he is trying to get that dialogue started right now. It doesn't seem to be working for him. It sounds too fake.

Obama, the rightful leader now? Come on!! Stop your constant rhetoric and focus on issues and policies that you have seldom enlightened us on. Obama knows to talk from up there in the sky, never any specifics. I am tired of this constant nonsense. We already elected one beer guy in the white house for 8 years. Now we are going to elect someone who can make us feel good – is he doc phil? – not someone who is efficient, knowledgeable and has the know how and who has laid out her plans to take America to the next level.
