Clinton campaign defends Montana press release

(CNN) - Barack Obama's campaign circulated a report Tuesday that accused the Clinton campaign of misleading reporters about the motivation of a new Clinton backer.

The headline on the Clinton campaign's Monday press release - "Yellowstone County Commissioner Bill Kennedy Backs Hillary Clinton for President: Prominent Montana leader cites Obama's out-of-touch comments about rural America" - seemed to imply that the official had made the switch because of Obama's recent remarks.

But lower down in the press release, the official says Obama's comments had only "solidified his support" for Clinton, not sparked his decision. A news story circulated by the Clinton campaign a short time later used much of the same language contained in the original press release, and led some to conclude that Kennedy's endorsement had been sparked by the controversy over Obama's 'bitter' remark.

Asked Monday afternoon, shortly after the second release was sent, whether the potential discrepancy raised by the headline could be misleading, a Clinton spokesman told CNN that the original memo was accurate - in sending the second e-mail, he said, the campaign was merely "passing along" relevant published information.

It is unforunate that Barack Obama said what he did about folks being bitter. However I do believe it is true. I also believe that Barack Obama needs to try and talk less eloquently. He can tell us in plain language what he plans to do to turn American around.I am in his corner , if anyone can unify and lead this country, Barack is our best hope.
I do not trust the Clintons.I believe they will stop at nothing to gain power.

Contrast Obama with Hillary. When Hillary made a complete fool of herself again with the Bosnian Snipers. Obama did not say a negative word. But when Obama makes a silly verbal gaffe. The Hillary monster pounces and makes it her main campaign issue. DISGUSTING.

Hillary's luxury life on $109 million over the last 6 years proves that she is the one out of touch. She is living in a princess fairy-tale world, and cares nothing about bringing Americans together. Stop lying, Hillary, we're not going to listen to you lying fantasies anymore!

An exaggeration is the same as amistatement of the truth. Lou Dovvs would call that plain lying, Hillary! But when you practice and perfect such an art, it becomes the perfect truth to you.

BOth you and Bill have enjoyed the liberty of stretching the truth until you no longer know what truth is. Exhhuastion, being foold, and ignorace are no excuse for the"smartest woman in the world"

    HIllary,

I am a fan, but after the way I have watched this campaign run....I have to say I am displeased. This is not what I expected. I am back to undecided and possibly voting for Obama. I am kinda embarresed and I would hope that Hillary supporters along with the Obama supporters stop the negative rhetoric. Let us save that Bush anger we have had for 8 years for Mccain.

Barrack! You Fool! You told America the truth. After twenty more years of politics you will learn to lie and smile. Don't you see? America can not handle the TRUTH!! Hillary (at least in Hillarys mind we can't)

How is this misleading? It says he 'cites' Obama's comments and later goes on to say it 'solidified his support' – those are not contradicting or misleading statements. Obama's campaign is grasping here. Talk about silly season.

I find it amazing that Hillary can call out OBAMA as an Elitist when the man clearly isn’t as rich as she has been all her life.
IN her AD she brags on her families summer cottage, how many people in 1950 had the resources to to have a summer cottage.
She made 109 million dollars. If it wasn’t for Barack’s books he wouldn’t have made what he did.
Yes he went to an Ivy league school , but so did she.
But unlike Barack she was NEVER raised by a single mother who had to help support them on FOOD STAMPS,and died at an early age.
Barack is a man who had to be determined to get where he is today, HILLARY has always had a carpet placed at her feet.
I used to like the Clinton’s until I seen them now for what they are, which are opportunistic that think they are entitled to the presidency , now which candidate is arrogant, patronizing, condescinding, and ELITIST.
Certainly not OBAMA, and this WHITE BITTER PENNSYLVANIA WILL NEVER VOTE FOR HILLARY LYING CLINTON, or BOMB BOMB BOMB IRAN JOHN McCAIN.

Geeze, you Hillary supporters must have swiss-cheesed your brains on botox injections or something. How on earth can you still support such a despicable person? I actually think Hillary has set back the chance for a woman president several decades.

I am so disappointed in Hillary Clinton. Up until last month, she was at the top of my personal list of heroines. She has fallen completely off that list now. She has disgraced herself with the manner in which her campaign is being and has been run.

I read on another blog that HRC as a person is better than her campaign. I hope so because its hard for me to accept that i misjudged her character so badly.

I am a Montanan and live in Yellowstone County wher Bill Kennedy is a county commisioner. I hope that he reads this posting.

Bill is a decent enough guy, nice family. He is also a career politician. nuff said.

Other than typical manipulation and distortion of the Clinton campaign, who really cares what Bill Kennedy thinks? He is not a superdelegate. He has supported Hillary Clinton from the get go and I deeply resent theClintonesque statement that he made his decision based on Obama's bitterness remarks. Bill Clinton's press secretary is from Montana and this press release has Matt McKenna written all over it.

Shame on you Bill kennedy for allowing yourself and Yellowstone County to be used this way. You won't be getting my vote next election.

The Obama Campaign needs to grow up and stop being so wimpy about all this!

It's like no one can say anything about their candidate–everyone is supposed to treat him with "kid gloves." Well- maybe he needed to grow up a little more before running for President!

What is happening now is the direct fault of their candidate!
Just words?? These were his words- not his pastor's.
And now to try to say that everyone didn't understand what he said? As if we are all stupid??
His words were very clear and to the point. Just words?

Asking the Clinton campaign if the potential discrepancy raised by the headline could be misleading? You've got to be kidding.

Hillary was in Bosnia, remember? Therefore, she must have ducked sniper fire!

Her husband had sex with other women while he was in office. Therefore, it must have been a right wing conspiracy because dear Bill would never have done that....

Bill says she was the first First Lady to enter a combat zone. Therefore, Pat Nixon was never in Vietnam.

She was in Ireland. Therefore, she must have brought peace.

She's opposed to NAFTA and dealings with Colombia. Therefore, Bill and Mark Penn (Whom she fired, right? Whoops. Only demoted....) must not have made/be making any money off of those deals.

The health system needs to be overhauled. Therefore, any store she tells us should be true.

She's a supporter of guns. Therefore, she must have shot a duck.

She keeps getting caught with lies and distortions and omissions of the truth. This will be her legacy. Not exactly what I imagine she had hoped for.

    Obama 2008. Period.

So, Hillary exaggerates the story of a real threat of sniper fire in Bosnia and she's a liar but Obama embellishes his resume (something any employee could lose their job over) and he's not a liar?

Hillary says Obama's remarks about small town PA helped gain support in Montana and Obama's campaign claims Richardson supported him because of his speech on race. Both had already decided to support the candidate but their support was "solidified" by events.

Yet, Obama supporters use this as another opportunity for nasty accusations and name calling. It doesn't reflect well on the candidate that his supporters are all so vicious.

I feel no pity for Billary any longer. Even though according to her, it's all everyone else's fault from the press to Obama saboteurs, etc. She was THE INEVITABLE CANDIDATE. She has done nearly all the damage to her ownself. I'm a Scout Master and we teach our boy's to accept responsibility for their own actions. How can we vote for someone that just adamantly refuses to?
